New toolchains will generate a .MIPS.abiflags section, referenced by a
new PT_MIPS_ABIFLAGS program header. This section will provide
information about the requirements of the ELF, including the ISA level
the code is built for, the ASEs it requires, the size of various
registers and its expectations of the floating point mode. This patch
introduces a definition of the structure of this section and the program
header, for use in a subsequent patch.

Hybrid FPRs is a scheme where scalar FP registers are 64b wide, but
accesses to odd indexed single registers use bits 63:32 of the
preceeding even indexed 64b register. In this mode all FP code
except that built for the plain FP64 ABI can execute correctly. Most
notably a combination of FP64A & FP32 code can execute correctly,
allowing for existing FP32 binaries to be linked with new FP64A binaries
that can make use of 64 bit FP & MSA.
Hybrid FPRs are implemented by setting both the FR & FRE bits, trapping
& emulating single precision FP instructions (via Reserved Instruction
exceptions) whilst allowing others to execute natively. It therefore has
a penalty in terms of execution speed, and should only be used when no
fully native mode can be. As more binaries are recompiled to use either
the FPXX or FP64(A) ABIs, the need for hybrid FPRs should diminish.
However in the short to mid term it allows for a gradual transition
towards that world, rather than a complete ABI break which is not
feasible for some users & not desirable for many.
A task will be executed using the hybrid FPR scheme when its
TIF_HYBRID_FPREGS flag is set & TIF_32BIT_FPREGS is clear. A further
patch will set the flags as necessary, this patch simply adds the
infrastructure necessary for the hybrid FPR mode to work.

CPUFreq driver need external timer, so add hpet at first.
In Loongson 3, only Core-0 can receive external interrupt. As a result,
timekeeping cannot absolutely use HPET timer. We use a hybrid solution:
Core-0 use HPET as its clock event device, but other cores still use
MIPS; clock source is global and doesn't need interrupt, so use HPET.

Machtypes of Loongson-3 machines become more and more, but there are
only small differences among different machtypes. Keeping a large table
of machtypes is very ugly and hard to extend. We found that the major
machtype differences are UARTs information (number of UARTs, UART IRQs,
UART clocks, etc.), platform devices (EC, temperature sensors, fan
controllers, etc.) and some workarounds (because of some CPU bugs or
mainboard bugs).
In this patch we improve the UEFI-like (LEFI) interface to make all
Loongson-3 machines use a same machtype "generic-loongson-machine".

The width of HT-bus is only 40-bit, but Loongson-3 has 48-bit physical
address. This implies only node-0's memory is DMAable because high bits
(Node ID) will lost. Fortunately, by configuring address windows in
firmware, we can extract 2bit Node ID (bit 44~47, only bit 44~45 used
now) from Loongson-3's 48-bit address space and embed it into 40-bit
(bit 37~38). Every NUMA node can do DMA now (however, maximum memory of
each node is reduced to 2^37 = 128GB).

The MIPS GIC supports 7 local interrupts, 2 of which are the GIC
local watchdog and count/compare timer. The remainder are CPU
interrupts which may optionally be re-routed through the GIC.
GIC hardware IRQs 0-6 are now used for local interrupts while
hardware IRQs 7+ are used for external (shared) interrupts.
Note that the 5 CPU interrupts may not be re-routable through
the GIC. In that case mapping will fail and the vectors reported
in C0_IntCtl should be used instead. gic_get_c0_compare_int() and
gic_get_c0_perfcount_int() will return the correct IRQ number to
use for the C0 timer and perfcounter interrupts based on the
routability of those interrupts through the GIC.
A separate irq_chip, with callbacks that mask/unmask the local
interrupt on all CPUs, is used for the C0 timer and performance
counter interrupts since all other platforms do not use the percpu
IRQ API for those interrupts.
Malta, SEAD-3, and the GIC clockevent driver have been updated
to use local interrupts and the R4K clockevent driver has been
updated to poll for C0 timer interrupts through the GIC when
the GIC is present.

Now that the GIC properly uses IRQ domains, kill off the per-platform
routing tables that were used to make the GIC appear transparent.
This includes:
- removing the mapping tables and the support for applying them,
- moving GIC IPI support to the GIC driver,
- properly routing the i8259 through the GIC on Malta, and
- updating IRQ assignments on SEAD-3 when the GIC is present.
Platforms no longer will pass an interrupt mapping table to gic_init.
Instead, they will pass the CPU interrupt vector (2 - 7) that they
expect the GIC to route interrupts to. Note that in EIC mode this
value is ignored and all GIC interrupts are routed to EIC vector 1.

The GIC on Malta boards supports a total of 47 interrupts (40 shared
and 7 local) and is assigned a base of 24. This overlaps with the
MSC01 interrupt assignments which have a base of 64, so move the MSC01
interrupt base back a bit to give the GIC some room.

Note that this breaks SEAD-3 when the GIC is in EIC mode, though
I'm not convinced it was working before either. It will be fixed

Currently interrupt vectors 2 and 5 are left disabled on secondary CPUs.
Since systems using CPS must also have a GIC, which is responsible for
routing all external interrupts and can map them to any hardware interrupt
vector, enable the remaining vectors. The two software interrupt vectors
are left disabled since they are not used with CPS.

The hardware perf event driver and oprofile interpret the global
cp0_perfcount_irq differently: in the hardware perf event driver
it is an offset from MIPS_CPU_IRQ_BASE and in oprofile it is the
actual IRQ number. This still works most of the time since
MIPS_CPU_IRQ_BASE is usually 0, but is clearly wrong. Since the
performance counter interrupt may vary from platform to platform
like the C0 timer interrupt, add the optional get_c0_perfcount_int
hook which returns the IRQ number of the performance counter.
The hook should return < 0 if the performance counter interrupt is
shared with the timer. If the hook is not present, the CPU vector
reported in C0_IntCtl (cp0_perfcount_irq) is used.

Add new 'noftlb' kernel command line option to disable the FTLB.
Since the kernel command line is not available when probing and
enabling the CPU features in cpu_probe(), we let the kernel configure
the FTLB during the config4 decode operation and we disable the FTLB later
on, once the command line has become available to us. This should have
no negative effects since FTLB isn't used so early in the boot process.
FTLB increases the effective TLB size leading to less TLB misses. However,
sometimes it's useful to be able to disable it when debugging memory related
core features or other hardware components.

Currently, arch_trigger_all_cpu_backtrace() is defined in only x86 and
sparc which have an NMI. But in case of softlockup, it could be possible
to dump backtrace of all cpus. and this could be helpful for debugging.
for example, if system has 2 cpus.
CPU 0 CPU 1
acquire read_lock()
try to do write_lock()
,,,
missing read_unlock()
In this case, softlockup will occur becasuse CPU 0 does not call
read_unlock(). And dump_stack() print only backtrace for "CPU 0". If
CPU1's backtrace is printed it's very helpful.

The save_fp_context & restore_fp_context pointers were being assigned
to the wrong variables if either:
- The kernel is configured for UP & runs on a system without an FPU,
since b2ead52828 "MIPS: Move & rename
fpu_emulator_{save,restore}_context".
- The kernel is configured for EVA, since ca750649e0 "MIPS: kernel:
signal: Prevent save/restore FPU context in user memory".
This would lead to FP context being clobbered incorrectly when setting
up a sigcontext, then the garbage values being saved uselessly when
returning from the signal.
Fix by swapping the pointer assignments appropriately.

HTW needs to stop and start again whenever the EntryHI register
changes otherwise an inflight HTW operation might use the new
EntryHI register for updating an old entry and that could lead
to crashes or even a machine check exception. We fix this by
ensuring the HTW has stop whenever the EntryHI register is about
to change

When EVA is turned on and prefetching is being used in memcpy.S,
the v1 register is being used as a helper register to the PREFE
instruction. However, v1 ($3) was not in the clobber list, which
means that the compiler did not preserve it across function calls,
and that could corrupt the value of the register leading to all
sorts of userland crashes. We fix this problem by using the
DADDI_SCRATCH macro to define the clobbered register when
CONFIG_EVA && CONFIG_CPU_HAS_PREFETCH are enabled.

The only place where the time is invalid is when the ACPI_CSTATE_FFH entry
method is not set. Otherwise for all the drivers, the time can be correctly
measured.
Instead of duplicating the CPUIDLE_FLAG_TIME_VALID flag in all the drivers
for all the states, just invert the logic by replacing it by the flag
CPUIDLE_FLAG_TIME_INVALID, hence we can set this flag only for the acpi idle
driver, remove the former flag from all the drivers and invert the logic with
this flag in the different governor.

Alternative to RPS/RFS is to use hardware support for multiple
queues.
Then split a set of million of sockets into worker threads, each
one using epoll() to manage events on its own socket pool.
Ideally, we want one thread per RX/TX queue/cpu, but we have no way to
know after accept() or connect() on which queue/cpu a socket is managed.
We normally use one cpu per RX queue (IRQ smp_affinity being properly
set), so remembering on socket structure which cpu delivered last packet
is enough to solve the problem.
After accept(), connect(), or even file descriptor passing around
processes, applications can use :
int cpu;
socklen_t len = sizeof(cpu);
getsockopt(fd, SOL_SOCKET, SO_INCOMING_CPU, &cpu, &len);
And use this information to put the socket into the right silo
for optimal performance, as all networking stack should run
on the appropriate cpu, without need to send IPI (RPS/RFS).

Starting with version 2.24.51.20140728 MIPS binutils complain loudly
about mixing soft-float and hard-float object files, leading to this
build failure since GCC is invoked with "-msoft-float" on MIPS:
{standard input}: Warning: .gnu_attribute 4,3 requires `softfloat'
LD arch/mips/alchemy/common/built-in.o
mipsel-softfloat-linux-gnu-ld: Warning: arch/mips/alchemy/common/built-in.o
uses -msoft-float (set by arch/mips/alchemy/common/prom.o),
arch/mips/alchemy/common/sleeper.o uses -mhard-float
To fix this, we detect if GAS is new enough to support "-msoft-float" command
option, and if it does, we can let GCC pass it to GAS; but then we also need
to sprinkle the files which make use of floating point registers with the
necessary ".set hardfloat" directives.

Even if CMA is disabled, the for_each_memblock macro expands
to run reserve_bootmem once. Hence, reserve_bootmem attempts to
reserve location 0 of size 0.
Add a check to avoid that.
Issue was highlighted during testing with EVA enabled.
resrve_bootmem used to exit gracefully when passed arguments to
reserve 0 size location at 0 without EVA.
But with EVA enabled, macros would point to different addresses

In commit 8393c524a2 (MIPS: tlbex: Fix a missing statement for
HUGETLB), the TLB Refill handler was fixed so that non-OCTEON targets
would work properly with huge pages. The change was incorrect in that
it broke the OCTEON case.
The problem is shown here:
xxx0: df7a0000 ld k0,0(k1)
.
.
.
xxxc0: df610000 ld at,0(k1)
xxxc4: 335a0ff0 andi k0,k0,0xff0
xxxc8: e825ffcd bbit1 at,0x5,0x0
xxxcc: 003ad82d daddu k1,at,k0
.
.
.
In the non-octeon case there is a destructive test for the huge PTE
bit, and then at 0, $k0 is reloaded (that is what the 8393c524a2
patch added).
In the octeon case, we modify k1 in the branch delay slot, but we
never need k0 again, so the new load is not needed, but since k1 is
modified, if we do the load, we load from a garbage location and then
get a nested TLB Refill, which is seen in userspace as either SIGBUS
or SIGSEGV (depending on the garbage).
The real fix is to only do this reloading if it is needed, and never
where it is harmful.

Pull audit updates from Eric Paris:
"So this change across a whole bunch of arches really solves one basic
problem. We want to audit when seccomp is killing a process. seccomp
hooks in before the audit syscall entry code. audit_syscall_entry
took as an argument the arch of the given syscall. Since the arch is
part of what makes a syscall number meaningful it's an important part
of the record, but it isn't available when seccomp shoots the
syscall...
For most arch's we have a better way to get the arch (syscall_get_arch)
So the solution was two fold: Implement syscall_get_arch() everywhere
there is audit which didn't have it. Use syscall_get_arch() in the
seccomp audit code. Having syscall_get_arch() everywhere meant it was
a useless flag on the stack and we could get rid of it for the typical
syscall entry.
The other changes inside the audit system aren't grand, fixed some
records that had invalid spaces. Better locking around the task comm
field. Removing some dead functions and structs. Make some things
static. Really minor stuff"

Pull percpu consistent-ops changes from Tejun Heo:
"Way back, before the current percpu allocator was implemented, static
and dynamic percpu memory areas were allocated and handled separately
and had their own accessors. The distinction has been gone for many
years now; however, the now duplicate two sets of accessors remained
with the pointer based ones - this_cpu_*() - evolving various other
operations over time. During the process, we also accumulated other
inconsistent operations.
This pull request contains Christoph's patches to clean up the
duplicate accessor situation. __get_cpu_var() uses are replaced with
with this_cpu_ptr() and __this_cpu_ptr() with raw_cpu_ptr().
Unfortunately, the former sometimes is tricky thanks to C being a bit
messy with the distinction between lvalues and pointers, which led to
a rather ugly solution for cpumask_var_t involving the introduction of
this_cpu_cpumask_var_ptr().
This converts most of the uses but not all. Christoph will follow up
with the remaining conversions in this merge window and hopefully
remove the obsolete accessors"

- Increase the default ARCH_NR_GPIO from 256 to 512. This
was done to avoid having a custom <asm/gpio.h> header for
the x86 architecture - GPIO is custom and complicated
enough as it is already! We want to move to a radix to
store the descriptors going forward, and finally get rid
of this fixed array size altogether.
- Endgame patching of the gpio_remove() semantics initiated
by Abdoulaye Berthe. It is not accepted by the system that
the removal of a GPIO chip fails during e.g. reboot or
shutdown, and therefore the return value has now painfully
been refactored away. For special cases like GPIO expanders
on a hot-pluggable bus like USB, we may later add some
gpiochip_try_remove() call, but for the cases we have now,
return values are moot.
- Some incremental refactoring of the gpiolib core and ACPI
GPIO library for more descriptor usage.
- Refactor the chained IRQ handler set-up method to handle
also threaded, nested interrupts and set up the parent IRQ
correctly. Switch STMPE and TC3589x drivers to use this
registration method.
- Add a .irq_not_threaded flag to the struct gpio_chip, so
that also GPIO expanders that block but are still not
using threaded IRQ handlers.
- New drivers for the ARM64 X-Gene SoC GPIO controller.
- The syscon GPIO driver has been improved to handle the
"DSP GPIO" found on the TI Keystone 2 SoC:s.
- ADNP driver switched to use gpiolib irqchip helpers.
- Refactor the DWAPB driver to support being instantiated
from and MFD cell (platform device).
- Incremental feature improvement in the Zynq, MCP23S08,
DWAPB, OMAP, Xilinx and Crystalcove drivers.

Pull networking updates from David Miller:
"Most notable changes in here:
1) By far the biggest accomplishment, thanks to a large range of
contributors, is the addition of multi-send for transmit. This is
the result of discussions back in Chicago, and the hard work of
several individuals.
Now, when the ->ndo_start_xmit() method of a driver sees
skb->xmit_more as true, it can choose to defer the doorbell
telling the driver to start processing the new TX queue entires.
skb->xmit_more means that the generic networking is guaranteed to
call the driver immediately with another SKB to send.
There is logic added to the qdisc layer to dequeue multiple
packets at a time, and the handling mis-predicted offloads in
software is now done with no locks held.
Finally, pktgen is extended to have a "burst" parameter that can
be used to test a multi-send implementation.
Several drivers have xmit_more support: i40e, igb, ixgbe, mlx4,
virtio_net
Adding support is almost trivial, so export more drivers to
support this optimization soon.
I want to thank, in no particular or implied order, Jesper
Dangaard Brouer, Eric Dumazet, Alexander Duyck, Tom Herbert, Jamal
Hadi Salim, John Fastabend, Florian Westphal, Daniel Borkmann,
David Tat, Hannes Frederic Sowa, and Rusty Russell.
2) PTP and timestamping support in bnx2x, from Michal Kalderon.
3) Allow adjusting the rx_copybreak threshold for a driver via
ethtool, and add rx_copybreak support to enic driver. From
Govindarajulu Varadarajan.
4) Significant enhancements to the generic PHY layer and the bcm7xxx
driver in particular (EEE support, auto power down, etc.) from
Florian Fainelli.
5) Allow raw buffers to be used for flow dissection, allowing drivers
to determine the optimal "linear pull" size for devices that DMA
into pools of pages. The objective is to get exactly the
necessary amount of headers into the linear SKB area pre-pulled,
but no more. The new interface drivers use is eth_get_headlen().
From WANG Cong, with driver conversions (several had their own
by-hand duplicated implementations) by Alexander Duyck and Eric
Dumazet.
6) Support checksumming more smoothly and efficiently for
encapsulations, and add "foo over UDP" facility. From Tom
Herbert.
7) Add Broadcom SF2 switch driver to DSA layer, from Florian
Fainelli.
8) eBPF now can load programs via a system call and has an extensive
testsuite. Alexei Starovoitov and Daniel Borkmann.
9) Major overhaul of the packet scheduler to use RCU in several major
areas such as the classifiers and rate estimators. From John
Fastabend.
10) Add driver for Intel FM10000 Ethernet Switch, from Alexander
Duyck.
11) Rearrange TCP_SKB_CB() to reduce cache line misses, from Eric
Dumazet.
12) Add Datacenter TCP congestion control algorithm support, From
Florian Westphal.
13) Reorganize sk_buff so that __copy_skb_header() is significantly

Apart from the usual cleanups, here is the summary of new features:
- s390 moves closer towards host large page support
- PowerPC has improved support for debugging (both inside the guest and
via gdbstub) and support for e6500 processors
- ARM/ARM64 support read-only memory (which is necessary to put firmware
in emulated NOR flash)
- x86 has the usual emulator fixes and nested virtualization improvements
(including improved Windows support on Intel and Jailhouse hypervisor
support on AMD), adaptive PLE which helps overcommitting of huge guests.
Also included are some patches that make KVM more friendly to memory
hot-unplug, and fixes for rare caching bugs.
Two patches have trivial mm/ parts that were acked by Rik and Andrew.

Pull KVM updates from Paolo Bonzini:
"Fixes and features for 3.18.
Apart from the usual cleanups, here is the summary of new features:
- s390 moves closer towards host large page support
- PowerPC has improved support for debugging (both inside the guest

- ARM/ARM64 support read-only memory (which is necessary to put
firmware in emulated NOR flash)
- x86 has the usual emulator fixes and nested virtualization
improvements (including improved Windows support on Intel and
Jailhouse hypervisor support on AMD), adaptive PLE which helps
overcommitting of huge guests. Also included are some patches that
make KVM more friendly to memory hot-unplug, and fixes for rare

pull request: wireless-next 2014-09-22
Please pull this batch of updates intended for the 3.18 stream...
For the mac80211 bits, Johannes says:
"This time, I have some rate minstrel improvements, support for a very
small feature from CCX that Steinar reverse-engineered, dynamic ACK
timeout support, a number of changes for TDLS, early support for radio
resource measurement and many fixes. Also, I'm changing a number of
places to clear key memory when it's freed and Intel claims copyright
for code they developed."
For the bluetooth bits, Johan says:
"Here are some more patches intended for 3.18. Most of them are cleanups
or fixes for SMP. The only exception is a fix for BR/EDR L2CAP fixed
channels which should now work better together with the L2CAP
information request procedure."
For the iwlwifi bits, Emmanuel says:
"I fix here dvm which was broken by my last pull request. Arik
continues to work on TDLS and Luca solved a few issues in CT-Kill. Eyal
keeps digging into rate scaling code, more to come soon. Besides this,
nothing really special here."
Beyond that, there are the usual big batches of updates to ath9k, b43,
mwifiex, and wil6210 as well as a handful of other bits here and there.
Also, rtlwifi gets some btcoexist attention from Larry.
Please let me know if there are problems!

Commit bbd426f542 "MIPS: Simplify FP context access" modified the
SIFROMREG & SIFROMHREG macros such that they return unsigned rather
than signed 32b integers. I had believed that to be fine, but
inadvertently missed the MFC1 & MFHC1 cases which write to a struct
pt_regs regs element. On MIPS32 this is fine, but on 64 bit those
saved regs' fields are 64 bit wide. Using unsigned values caused the
32 bit value from the FP register to be zero rather than sign extended
as the architecture specifies, causing incorrect emulation of the
MFC1 & MFHc1 instructions. Fix by reintroducing the casts to signed
integers, and therefore the sign extension.

The kernel code overrides the default ISA as passed by the compiler
in quite a few places. This has unfortunate side effects when smartmips
is enabled leading to hundreds of warnings during build such as:
{standard input}: Assembler messages:
{standard input}:411: Warning: the `smartmips' extension requires MIPS32
revision 1 or greater
{standard input}: Assembler messages:
{standard input}:43: Warning: the 64-bit MIPS architecture does not support the
`smartmips' extension
[...]
Until the kernel code is fixed properly (if possible), disable all the
assembler warning messages to make the build logs readable again.
This has no runtime side effects but it makes it easier to spot
more critical warnings and problems during build.

In order to make the static inline function is_zero_pfn() callable by
modules, export its symbol dependencies 'zero_pfn' and (for s390 and

We need this for KVM, as CONFIG_KVM is a tristate for all supported
architectures except ARM and arm64, and testing a pfn whether it refers
to the zero page is required to correctly distinguish the zero page
from other special RAM ranges that may also have the PG_reserved bit
set, but need to be treated as MMIO memory.

Reported by Mikulas Patocka, kmemcheck currently barks out a
false positive since we don't have special kmemcheck annotation
for bitfields used in bpf_prog structure.
We currently have jited:1, len:31 and thus when accessing len
while CONFIG_KMEMCHECK enabled, kmemcheck throws a warning that
we're reading uninitialized memory.
As we don't need the whole bit universe for pages member, we
can just split it to u16 and use a bool flag for jited instead
of a bitfield.

With eBPF getting more extended and exposure to user space is on it's way,
hardening the memory range the interpreter uses to steer its command flow
seems appropriate. This patch moves the to be interpreted bytecode to
read-only pages.
In case we execute a corrupted BPF interpreter image for some reason e.g.
caused by an attacker which got past a verifier stage, it would not only
provide arbitrary read/write memory access but arbitrary function calls
as well. After setting up the BPF interpreter image, its contents do not
change until destruction time, thus we can setup the image on immutable
made pages in order to mitigate modifications to that code. The idea
is derived from commit 314beb9bca ("x86: bpf_jit_comp: secure bpf jit
against spraying attacks").
This is possible because bpf_prog is not part of sk_filter anymore.
After setup bpf_prog cannot be altered during its life-time. This prevents
any modifications to the entire bpf_prog structure (incl. function/JIT
image pointer).
Every eBPF program (including classic BPF that are migrated) have to call
bpf_prog_select_runtime() to select either interpreter or a JIT image
as a last setup step, and they all are being freed via bpf_prog_free(),
including non-JIT. Therefore, we can easily integrate this into the
eBPF life-time, plus since we directly allocate a bpf_prog, we have no
performance penalty.
Tested with seccomp and test_bpf testsuite in JIT/non-JIT mode and manual
inspection of kernel_page_tables. Brad Spengler proposed the same idea
via Twitter during development of this patch.

The secure_computing function took a syscall number parameter, but
it only paid any attention to that parameter if seccomp mode 1 was
enabled. Rather than coming up with a kludge to get the parameter
to work in mode 2, just remove the parameter.
To avoid churn in arches that don't have seccomp filters (and may
not even support syscall_get_nr right now), this leaves the
parameter in secure_computing_strict, which is now a real function.
For ARM, this is a bit ugly due to the fact that ARM conditionally
supports seccomp filters. Fixing that would probably only be a
couple of lines of code, but it should be coordinated with the audit
maintainers.
This will be a slight slowdown on some arches. The right fix is to
pass in all of seccomp_data instead of trying to make just the
syscall nr part be fast.
This is a prerequisite for making two-phase seccomp work cleanly.

__get_cpu_var() is used for multiple purposes in the kernel source. One of
them is address calculation via the form &__get_cpu_var(x). This calculates
the address for the instance of the percpu variable of the current processor
based on an offset.
Other use cases are for storing and retrieving data from the current
processors percpu area. __get_cpu_var() can be used as an lvalue when
writing data or on the right side of an assignment.
__get_cpu_var() is defined as :
#define __get_cpu_var(var) (*this_cpu_ptr(&(var)))
__get_cpu_var() always only does an address determination. However, store
and retrieve operations could use a segment prefix (or global register on
other platforms) to avoid the address calculation.
this_cpu_write() and this_cpu_read() can directly take an offset into a
percpu area and use optimized assembly code to read and write per cpu
variables.
This patch converts __get_cpu_var into either an explicit address
calculation using this_cpu_ptr() or into a use of this_cpu operations that
use the offset. Thereby address calculations are avoided and less registers
are used when code is generated.
At the end of the patch set all uses of __get_cpu_var have been removed so
the macro is removed too.
The patch set includes passes over all arches as well. Once these operations
are used throughout then specialized macros can be defined in non -x86
arches as well in order to optimize per cpu access by f.e. using a global
register that may be set to the per cpu base.
Transformations done to __get_cpu_var()
1. Determine the address of the percpu instance of the current processor.
DEFINE_PER_CPU(int, y);
int *x = &__get_cpu_var(y);
Converts to
int *x = this_cpu_ptr(&y);
2. Same as #1 but this time an array structure is involved.
DEFINE_PER_CPU(int, y[20]);
int *x = __get_cpu_var(y);
Converts to
int *x = this_cpu_ptr(y);
3. Retrieve the content of the current processors instance of a per cpu
variable.
DEFINE_PER_CPU(int, y);
int x = __get_cpu_var(y)
Converts to
int x = __this_cpu_read(y);
4. Retrieve the content of a percpu struct
DEFINE_PER_CPU(struct mystruct, y);
struct mystruct x = __get_cpu_var(y);
Converts to
memcpy(&x, this_cpu_ptr(&y), sizeof(x));
5. Assignment to a per cpu variable
DEFINE_PER_CPU(int, y)
__get_cpu_var(y) = x;
Converts to
__this_cpu_write(y, x);
6. Increment/Decrement etc of a per cpu variable
DEFINE_PER_CPU(int, y);
__get_cpu_var(y)++
Converts to
__this_cpu_inc(y)

get_system_type() is not thread-safe on OCTEON. It uses static data,
also more dangerous issue is that it's calling cvmx_fuse_read_byte()
every time without any synchronization. Currently it's possible to get
processes stuck looping forever in kernel simply by launching multiple
readers of /proc/cpuinfo:
(while true; do cat /proc/cpuinfo > /dev/null; done) &
(while true; do cat /proc/cpuinfo > /dev/null; done) &
...
Fix by initializing the system type string only once during the early
boot.

Rename 'eva_entry' to 'platform_eva_init' as required by the new

in a platform dependent way, it must not depend on its caller so move

Generic code may need to perform certain operations when EVA is
enabled, for example, configure the segmentation registers during
boot. In order to avoid using more CONFIG_EVA ifdefs in the arch code,
such functions will be added in this header instead.
Initially this header contains a macro which will be used by generic
code later on during VPEs configuration on secondary cores.
All it does is to call the platform specific EVA init code in case
EVA is enabled.

Commit 4c21b8fd8f (MIPS: seccomp: Handle indirect system calls (o32))
added indirect syscall detection for O32 processes running on MIPS64
but it did not work as expected. The reason is the the scall64-o32
implementation differs compared to scall32-o32. In the former, the v0
(syscall number) register contains the absolute syscall number
(4000 + X) whereas in the latter it contains the relative syscall
number (X). Fix the code to avoid doing an extra addition, and load
the v0 register directly to the first argument for syscall_trace_enter.
Moreover, set the .reorder assembler option in order to have better
control on this part of the assembly code.

Multicore MIPSes without I/D hardware coherency suffered from a race
condition in the page fault handler. The page table entry was
published before any pending lazy D-cache flush was committed, hence
it allowed execution of stale page cache data by other VPEs in the
system.
To make the cache handling safe we need to perform flushing already in
the set_pte_at function. MIPSes without coherent I-caches can get a
small increase in flushes due to the unavailability of the execute
flag in set_pte_at.

get_system_type() is not thread-safe on OCTEON.
(while true; do cat /proc/cpuinfo > /dev/null; done) &
...
Fix by initializing the system type string only once during the early
boot.

Rename 'eva_entry' to 'platform_eva_init' as required by the new
'eva_init' macro in the eva.h header. Since this macro is now used
in a platform dependent way, it must not depend on its caller so move
the t1 register initialization inside this macro. Also set the .reorder
assembler option in case the caller may have previously set .noreorder.
This may allow a few assembler optimizations. Finally include missing
headers and document the register usage for this macro.

[ralf@linux-mips.org: outlining set_pte_at() saves a good k in a test

Using kstrtol to parse the "{e,}memsize" variables was wrong because this
parses signed long numbers. In case of '{e,}memsize' >= 2G, the top bit
is set, resulting to -ERANGE errors and possibly random system memory
boundaries. We fix this by replacing "kstrtol" with "kstrtoul".
We also improve the code to check the kstrtoul return value and
print a warning if an error was returned.

- The core GPIO library implementation has been split up in
three different files:
- gpiolib.c for the latest and greatest and shiny GPIO
library code using GPIO descriptors only
- gpiolib-legacy.c for the old integer number space API
that we are phasing out gradually
- gpiolib-sysfs.c for the sysfs interface that we are
not entirely happy with, but has to live on for
ABI compatibility
- Add a flags argument to *gpiod_get* functions, with some
backward-compatibility macros to ease transitions. We
should have had the flags there from the beginning it
seems, now we need to clean up the mess. There is a plan
on how to move forward here devised by Alexandre Courbot
and Mark Brown.
- Split off a special <linux/gpio/machine.h> header for the
board gpio table registration, as per example from the
regulator subsystem.
- Start to kill off the return value from gpiochip_remove()
by removing the __must_check attribute and removing all
checks inside the drivers/gpio directory. The rationale
is: well what were we supposed to do if there is an error
code? Not much: print an error message. And gpiolib already
does that. So make this function return void eventually.
- Some cleanups of hairy gpiolib code, make some functions
not to be used outside the library private and make sure
they are not exported, remove gpiod_lock/unlock_as_irq()
as the existing function is for driver-internal use and
fine as it is, delete gpio_ensure_requested() as it is
not meaningful anymore.
- Support the GPIOF_ACTIVE_LOW flag from gpio_request_one()
function calls, which is logical since this is already
supported when referencing GPIOs from e.g. device trees.
- Switch STMPE, intel-mid, lynxpoint and ACPI (!) to use
the gpiolib irqchip helpers cutting down on GPIO irqchip
boilerplate a bit more.
- New driver for the Zynq GPIO block.
- The usual incremental improvements around a bunch of
drivers.
- Janitorial syntactic and semantic cleanups by Jingoo Han,
and Rickard Strandqvist especially.

- Book3S HV: Add in-guest debug support
This release drops support for KVM on the PPC440. As a result, the
PPC merge removes more lines than it adds. :)
I also included an x86 change, since Davidlohr tied it to an
independent bug report and the reporter quickly provided a Tested-by;
there was no reason to wait for -rc2"

This patch set consists of the usual driver updates (ufs, storvsc, pm8001
hpsa). It also has removal of the user space target driver code (everyone is
using LIO now), a partial PCI MSI-X update, more multi-queue updates,
conversion to 64 bit LUNs (so we could theoretically cope with any LUN
returned by a device) and placeholder support for the ZBC device type (Shingle
drives), plus an assortment of minor updates and bug fixes.
