In [1], Christoph Hellwig has proposed to remove the wrappers in include/linux/pci-dma-compat.h. Some reasons why this API should be removed have been given by Julia Lawall in [2]. A coccinelle script has been used to perform the needed transformation Only relevant parts are given below. It has been hand modified to use 'dma_set_mask_and_coherent()' instead of 'pci_set_dma_mask()/pci_set_consistent_dma_mask()' when applicable. This is less verbose. Finally, the now useless 'dma_mask' variable has been removed. In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or
``make pdfdocs``. The formatted documentation can also be read online at:
https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/
There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory,
several of them using the Restructured Text markup notation.
Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the
requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about
the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
