not work with some link partners when the next patch enables auto-mdix.

This PCI-E SR-IOV virtual function (VF) driver is dependant upon the
physical function (PF) driver (i40e) for nearly all of its hardware
configuration. Requests from the VF driver are passed to the PF using
the hardware's Admin Queue.
This patch contains the functionality for communicating with the PF
driver. Because of the delay inherent in this communications channel,
most of the replies from the PF driver are handled asynchronously. The
exceptions are the "send API version" and "get VF config" messages,
which busy-wait because they are done so early during init that
interrupts are not yet configured.

It's possible for VMs with older versions of bnx2x to run over a hypervisor
with latest driver. If a VF in such a VM does not support RSS configuration,
the PF driver in the hypervisor will print an error message to system logs.
This changes the error message into a debug message, as this is very likely
a false alarm for an older VF (i.e., VF manages to work properly; PF simply

the data has the opposite endianity.
Sadly, this cannot be fixed as there are already various tools deployed

request_irq is changed to devm_request_irq also changing the irq name from
platform device name to net device name, but the net device is not
registered at this point with the network frame work, so devm_request_irq

IPv6 uses 2 TIDs with CLIP enabled and 4 TIDs without CLIP.
Currently we are incrementing STIDs in use by 1 for both IPv4 and IPv6 which
is wrong.
Further, driver currently does not have interface to query if CLIP is programmed
for particular IPv6 address. So, in this patch we increment/decrement TIDs in use
by 4 for IPv6 assuming absence of CLIP. Such assumption keeps us on safe side and
we don't end up allocating more stids for IPv6 than actually supported.

The ADM6996L switch and some Broadcom switches with two MII interfaces
like the BCM5325F connected to two MACs on the SoC, used on some
routers do not return a valid value when reading the PHY id register
and Linux thinks there is no PHY at all, but that is wrong.

when there is no other phy in the Ethernet driver code.

Most of the older home routers based on the Broadcom BCM47XX SoC series
are using a MAC that is supported by b44. On most of these routers not
the internal PHY of this MAC core is used, but a switch sometimes on an
external chip or integrated into the same SoC as the Ethernet core.
For this switch a special PHY driver is needed which should not be
integrated into b44 as the same switches are also used by other
Broadcom home networking SoCs which are using different Ethernet MAC
drivers. This was tested with the b53 switch driver which is currently
on its way to mainline.
If the internal PHY is not used, b44 will now search on the MDIO bus
for a phy and use the Linux phylib subsystem to register a driver.
Support for the internal PHY must stay here, because there are some
device which are suing the internal phy.
With this patch we scan the mdio bus when the sprom or nvram says that
the PHY address is 30, if a PHY was found at this address b44 uses it.
This was tested with a BCM4704, BCM4712 and BCM5354.

The PHY address 30 means there is no local PHY, but there could be an

The Ethernet core supported by b44 supports an internal PHY integrated
into the mac core, which is supported by the b44 driver and an external
PHY to which the mac core is connected. This external PHY could be a
switch connected through MII, which is often the case when this core is
used on home routers. The usage of an external PHY was assumed when the
PHY address 30 was used and an internal PHY was assumed when the PHY
address was different. To verify that b44_phy_reset() was called and
checked if it worked, otherwise PHY address 30 was assumed, an external
PHY. It is better to check the register which says which PHY is
connected to the MAC instead of checking the PHY address.
The interface to an external PHY was only activated when this register
was set.
This also changes B44_FLAG_INTERNAL_PHY to B44_FLAG_EXTERNAL_PHY, it is
easier to check.

upper devices when bringing a device online where the RTNL lock is held.
In this case, it is safe to walk the all_adj_list because the RTNL lock is
used to protect the write side as well. This patch adds a check to see
if the RTNL lock is held before throwing a warning in
netdev_all_upper_get_next_dev_rcu().

This version corrects the whitespace issue.
orion_mdio_wait_ready uses wait_event_timeout to wait for the
SMI interrupt to fire. wait_event_timeout waits for between
"timeout - 1" and "timeout" jiffies. In this case a 1ms timeout
when HZ is 1000 results in a wait of 0 to 1 jiffies, causing
premature timeouts.
This fix ensures a minimum timeout of 2 jiffies, ensuring
wait_event_timeout will always wait at least 1 jiffie.

There's no need anymore to call phy_init_hw() to reset/resume the PHY from the

Intel Wired LAN Driver Updates
This series contains updates to i40e, ixgbevf, ixgbe and igb.
Don provides an ixgbevf patch to add DCB configuration into the queue
setup so that we won't have to allocate queues in a separate place when
enabling DCB.
Guenter Roeck provides 2 patches for ixgbe to simplify the code by
attaching hwmon sysfs attributes to hwmon device instead of PCI device.
Also fix an issues where the temperature sensor attribute index was
being started with the value 0 and not 1 as per the hwmon API.
Carolyn provides igb patches to fix queue allocation method to
accommodate changes during runtime. This includes changing how the
driver initializes MSIx and checks for MSIx configuration to make it
easier to reconfigure the device when queue changes happen at runtime.
Neerav and Shannon fixes i40e debugfs commands that dump hex information
by using print_hex_dump().
Shannon provides several i40e fixes which include the prevention of
null pointer exception in the dump descriptor by checking that rings
were allocated before trying to reference them. Fixed up a couple of
scanfs to accept various base numbers instead of silently requiring hex.
Anjali fixes up i40e where the incorrect defines were being used for
misc interrupts.
Alan Cox provides a fix for i40e where we assume that the resulting
buffer is zero terminated when we then re-use it. The sscanf is limited
to 512 bytes but needs to be 511 to allow for a terminator.
Stephen Hemminger fixes i40e by making local functions static and removes
unused code (i40e_aq_add/remove_vlan() functions).

When changing number of queues using ethtool's set_channels during runtime,
a queue allocation could fail, which can leave the device in a down state.
In order to preserve the usability of the device in this scenario, this patch
changes the driver to allocate the number of queues only if they have not
been allocated already. The first allocation is then done for the max number
of queues, which is the default queues for this driver. With this change,
queue quantity changes are not subject to queue allocation failures.

This patch is to fix a compiler warning of maybe-uininitialized-variable
that is generated from gcc when the -O3 flag is used. In the function
e1000_reset_hw_80003es2lan(), the variable krmn_reg_data is first given
a value by being passed to a register read function as a
pass-by-reference parameter. But, the return value of that read
function was never checked to see if the read failed and the variable
not given an initial value. The compiler was smart enough to spot
this. This patch is to check the return value for that read function
and return it, if an error occurs, without trying to utilize the value
in kmrn_reg_data.

The CT2 HW supports multi-buffer Rx. This patch provides the necessary changes
for bnad to use multi-buffer Rx feature. For BNAD, multi-buffer Rx is by
default enabled when MTU is > 4096. For >4096 MTU, q0 data/large buffers are of

Change Details:
- bna_rx_mcast_listset() API first looks at free_q only and not at other
pending Qs rendering it non-deterministic of giving an upper limit.
Modify bna_rx_mcast_listset() implementation to not use only half of the
limit.
- Allocate and initialize queue for deleting
- Segregate the adding and deleting process by using separate queues.
- The filter framework in bna does not let adding addresses to its max capacity
due to asynchronous operations involved.
Provide a synchronous option to set a given list.

Currently a higher priority client can remove a lower priority
client's filter with equal match-expression. This might happen if (a)
the higher priority client has a double-free bug, or (b) another
client with sufficient priority replaced and then removed an equal
filter, allowing the low priority client to insert an equal filter.
In neither case does it actually make sense to carry out the removal;
we should say the filter doesn't exist, as the filter currently
present is not the one that the high-priority client is referring to.

Change all the 'stack' naming to 'auto' (or other meaningful term);
the device address list is based on more than just what the network

wants at all.
Signed-off-by: Ben Hutchings <bhutchings@solarflare.com>
MAC filters inserted automatically by the driver, based on the device
address list (EF10) or no-match filters (Siena), should be overridable
at MANUAL or REQUIRED priority. Currently they themselves have
REQUIRED priority and this requires some odd special-casing.
We also can't reliably tell whether such a MAC filter has or has
not been overridden. We just remember that it is wanted by the
stack (RX_STACK flag).
Add another priority level, AUTO, between HINT and MANUAL, and
use this for the automatic filters while they have not been
overridden. Remove the RX_STACK flag. Add an RX_OVER_AUTO
flag which is set only when an AUTO filter has been overridden
(or was requested to be inserted while a higher-priority filter
existed).

The SFC9100 family has only one clock per controller, shared by all
functions. Therefore only create a clock device under the primary
function, and make all other functions refer to the primary's clock
device.
Since PTP functionality is limited to port 0 and PF 0 on the earlier
SFN[56]322F boards, and we also set the primary flag for that
function, we can make the creation of a clock device conditional only
on this flag.
Signed-off-by: Ben Hutchings <bhutchings@solarflare.com>
The primary function of an EF10 controller will share its clock
device with other functions in the same domain (which we call
secondary functions). To this end, we need to associate functions
on the same controller.
We do not control probe order, so allow primary and secondary
functions to appear in any order. Maintain global lists of all
primary functions and of unassociated secondary functions,
and a list of secondary functions on each primary function.
Use the VPD serial number to tell whether functions are part of the
same controller. VPD will not be readable by virtual functions, so
this may need to be revisited later.

The EF10 firmware can optionally insert RX timestamps in the packet

We can potentially pull the entire packet contents into the head area

We need a dedicated channel on Siena to ensure we can match up
the separate RX and timestamp events for each PTP packet. We won't
do this for EF10 as timestamps are delivered inline.

The MC firmware will return error MC_CMD_ERR_ENOSPC if filter

efx_flush_all() is a really misleading name - it has nothing to do

Split each of efx_mcdi_rpc, efx_mcdi_rpc_finish, and efx_mcdi_rpc_async into
a normal and a _quiet version; made the former log MCDI errors with
netif_err (and include the raw MCDI error code), and the latter never log
them at all. Changed various callers; any where some errors are expected
(but others are not) call the _quiet version and then if necessary log the
MCDI error themselves. Said logging is done by new efx_mcdi_display_error.
Callers of efx_mcdi_rpc*_quiet functions which may want to log the error
need to ensure that their outbuf is big enough to hold an MCDI error; to
this end, they now use MCDI_DECLARE_BUF_OUT_OR_ERR, which always allocates
at least 8 bytes.
Signed-off-by: Ben Hutchings <bhutchings@solarflare.com>
We don't directly control RX ingress on Siena or any later
controllers, and so we cannot prevent packets from entering the RX
datapath while the RX queues are not set up. This results in
the hardware incrementing RX_NODESC_DROP_CNT, but it's not an
error and we should not include it in error stats.
When bringing an interface up or down, pull (or wait for) stats and
count the number of packets that were dropped while the interface was
down. Subtract this from the reported RX dropped count.
Signed-off-by: Ben Hutchings <bhutchings@solarflare.com>
The addition of RX event merging support means we don't reliably
detect dropped RX events now. Currently we will only detect them if
the previous event for the RX queue had the CONT bit set.
Only accept RX completion events as merged if the
GET_CAPABILITIES_OUT_RX_BATCHING bit is set in datapath_caps (which it
won't be for the low-latency datapath) and the CONT bit is not set on
the event.

To run BISTs the MC goes down in to a special mode where it will only
respond to MCDI from the testing PF, and TX, RX and event queues are
torn down. Other PFs get a message as it goes down to tell them it's
going down.
When the other PFs get this message, they check the soft status
register to tell when the MC has rebooted after BIST mode and they can
start recovery.

Commit c45f812f02 ('8390 : Replace ei_debug with msg_enable/NETIF_MSG_*
feature') ended up moving the printout of version[] from something that
will be compiled out due to defines, to something that is now evaluated
at runtime.
That means that what always used to be an access to an __initdata string
from non-__init code started showing up as a section mismatch when it
didn't before.
All other 8390 versions skip __initdata on the version string, and
starting to annotate the whole chain of callers with __init seems like
more churn than it's worth on this driver, so remove it from etherh.c as well.

Commit 89ce376c6b (drivers/net: Use of_match_ptr() macro in smc91x.c)
added minimal device tree support to smc91x, but it's not working on
many platforms because of the lack of some key configuration bits.
Fix the issue by parsing the necessary configuration like the
smc911x driver is doing. As most smc91x users seem to use 16-bit
access, let's default to that if no reg-io-width is specified.

The new tg3 driver leaves REG_BASE_ADDR (PCI config offset 120)
uninitialized. From power on reset this register may have garbage in it. The
Register Base Address register defines the device local address of a
register. The data pointed to by this location is read or written using
the Register Data register (PCI config offset 128). When REG_BASE_ADDR has
garbage any read or write of Register Data Register (PCI 128) will cause the
PCI bus to lock up. The TCO watchdog will fire and bring down the system.

This series contains updates to i40e, igb, ixgbe and ixgbevf.
Shannon provides a couple of i40e patches, first restricts the ethtool
diag test messages by using netif_info() macro to when the hardware
bit is enabled in the message level netdev message mask. Second
provides a fix for when there is an out-of-range descriptor request.
Kamil provides a fix for i40e by updating the loopback enum types and
add information about the current loopback mode to data returned from
get_link_info().
Jesse provides a fix for i40e define name that was being mis-used.
I40E_ITR_NONE was being used as an ITRN register index by accident
because it was easily associated with the i40e Rx ITR and friends
defines, when it should be associated with the DYN_CTL register sets.
Jacob provides an update for ixgbevf Kconfig description since the VF
driver supports more than just the 82599 device.
Don and Alex provide a cleanup patch for ixgbe to make it where head,
tail, next to clean and next to use are all reset in a single function
for both Tx and Rx path. Before, the code for this was spread out over
several areas which made it difficult to track what the values were for
each of the values.
Carolyn provides two igb patches to add a media switching feature for
i354 PHY's and new Media Auto Sense for 82580 devices only.
Aaron Sierra provides a fix for igb to resolve an issue with the 64-bit
PCI addresses being truncated because the return values of
pci_resource_start() and pci_resouce_end() were being cast to unsigned
long.
Guenter Roeck provides two igb patches, first simplifies the code by
attaching the hwmon sysfs attributes to hwmon device instead of the
PCI device. Second fixes the temperature sensor attribute index by
setting it to 1 instead of 0 (per hwmon ABI).

Commit f4ec9e9 "mlx4_core: Change bitmap allocator to work in round-robin fashion"
introduced round-robin allocation (via bitmap) for all resources which allocate
via a bitmap.
Round robin allocation is desirable for mcgs, counters, pd's, UARs, and xrcds.
These are simply numbers, with no involvement of ICM memory mapping.
Round robin is required for QPs, since we had a problem with immediate
reuse of a 24-bit QP number (commit f4ec9e9).
However, for other resources which use the bitmap allocator and involve
mapping ICM memory -- MPTs, CQs, SRQs -- round-robin is not desirable.
What happens in these cases is the following:
ICM memory is allocated and mapped in chunks of 256K.
Since the resource allocation index goes up monotonically, the allocator
will eventually require mapping a new chunk. Now, chunks are also unmapped
when their reference count goes back to zero. Thus, if a single app is
running and starts/exits frequently we will have the following situation:
When the app starts, a new chunk must be allocated and mapped.
When the app exits, the chunk reference count goes back to zero, and the
chunk is unmapped and freed. Therefore, the app must pay the cost of allocation
and mapping of ICM memory each time it runs (although the price is paid only when
allocating the initial entry in the new chunk).
For apps which allocate MPTs/SRQs/CQs and which operate as described above,
this presented a performance problem.
We therefore roll back the round-robin allocator modification for MPTs, CQs, SRQs.

At the same time it's possible to drop our internal PHY management.

Finally make use of phy_ethtool_[gs]set functions instead implementing

filter status mean different things and we should not depend on a
bitwise result. Then provides a patch to enable a couple of

The VSI may be allocated more queues (alloc_queue_pairs) than actually
are to be used (num_queue_pairs), so only allocate rings for the queues
to be used. The numbers will likely be the same for most VSIs, but can
be different based on how TCs are assigned and enabled.

In order to re-size queues and vectors while the interface is
still up, we need to be able to call functions to free and
re-allocate without bringing down the VSI.
We also need to reset the existing setup, update the
configuration and then rebuild again. This requires us to have
the reset flow broken down into two parts.

The MC firmware is cooperatively multitasking and its scheduler will
send an event when a task yields after running for more than the
expected maximum time. This can be useful for firmware development
but does not usually indicate a serious error and does not help to
detect a lockup (there is a hardware watchdog that does that).
Change the message and reduce log level accordingly.

There is an as-yet unexplained bug that sometimes prevents (or delays)
the driver seeing the completion event for a completed MCDI request on
the SFC9120. The requested configuration change will have happened
but the driver assumes it to have failed, and this can result in
further failures. We can mitigate this by polling for completion
after unsuccessfully waiting for an event.

There is a single MCDI PTP operation for setting the frequency
adjustment and applying a time offset to the hardware clock. When
applying a time offset we should not change the frequency adjustment.
These two operations can now be requested separately but this requires
a flash firmware update. Keep using the single operation, but
remember and repeat the previous frequency adjustment.

Intel Wired LAN Driver Updates
This series contains updates to i40e only.
Christopher Pau provides a patch to set pf_id based on device and
function numbers since NICs with ARI enabled can have function
numbers larger than 8.
Anjali provides 3 i40e patches to update hardware defines to keep
in sync with hardware updates.
Shannon provides the majority of i40e patches, with 7. First patch
clears the admin queue head and tail registers during admin queue
shutdown. Then simplifies the admin queue head-tail-len setups to
use more virtual registers. Provides several patches to cleanup
and fix driver load and reset procedures to make more robust. Lastly,
provides an ethtool test for interrupts using the software interrupt.
Mitch provides some i40e patches which fixes up VF code in the PF
driver, specifically the number of vectors per VF are reported by the
hardware does not include vector 0, so we need to account for this
when checking. In addition, cleans up debugging messages.
Kamil provides an i40e patch to fix the diagnostics test by restricting
the diagnostic test length.

When booted with device tree, we may still have platform data passed
as auxdata. For am3517 this is needed for passing the interrupt_enable
and interrupt_disable callbacks that access the omap system control module
registers. These callback functions will eventually go away when we have
a separate system control module driver.
Some of the things that are currently passed as platform data we don't need
to set up as device tree properties as they are always the same on am3517.
So let's use a new compatible flag for those so we can get those from
the device tree match data.
Also note that we need to fix setting of phy_dev to NULL instead of an empty
string as the code later on uses that to find the first phy on the mdio bus.
This seems to have been caused by 5d69e0076a (net: davinci_emac: switch to

Few network drivers really supports frag_list : virtual drivers.
Some drivers wrongly advertise NETIF_F_FRAGLIST feature.
If skb with a frag_list is given to them, packet on the wire will be
corrupt.
Remove this flag, as core networking stack will make sure to
provide packets that can be sent without corruption.

On tx submit the driver always dma_map_single() FEC_ENET_TX_FRSIZE (=2048)
bytes. This works because we don't overwrite any memory after the data buffer,
we remove it from cache if it was there. So we hurt performace in case the
mapping of a smaller area makes a difference.
There is also a bug: If the data area starts shortly before the end of
RAM say 0xc7fffa10 and the RAM ends at 0xc8000000 then we have enough
space to fit the data area (according to skb->len) but we would map beyond
end of ram if we are using 2048. In v2.6.31 (against which kernel this patch
made) there is the following check in dma_cache_maint():
|BUG_ON(!virt_addr_valid(start) || !virt_addr_valid(start + size - 1));
Since the area starting at 0xc8000000 is no longer virt_addr_valid() we
BUG() during dma_map_single(). The BUG() statement was removed in v3.5-rc1 as
per 2dc6a016 ("ARM: dma-mapping: use asm-generic/dma-mapping-common.h").
This patch was tested on v2.6.31 and then forward-ported and compile
tested only against the net tree. I think it is still worth fixing
mainline even after the BUG() statement is gone.

Modify tg3_chip_reset() and tg3_close() to check if the PCI network
adapter device is accessible at all in order to skip poking it or
trying to handle a carrier loss in vain when that's not the case.
Introduce a special PCI helper function pci_device_is_present()
for this purpose.
Of course, this uncovers the lack of the appropriate RTNL locking
in tg3_suspend() and tg3_resume(), so add that locking in there
too.
These changes prevent tg3 from burning a CPU at 100% load level for
solid several seconds after the Thunderbolt link is disconnected from

On e1000_down(), we should ensure every asynchronous work is canceled
before proceeding. Since the watchdog_task can schedule other works
apart from itself, it should be stopped first, but currently it is
stopped after the reset_task. This can result in the following race
leading to the reset_task running after the module unload:
e1000_down_and_stop(): e1000_watchdog():
---------------------- -----------------
cancel_work_sync(reset_task)
schedule_work(reset_task)
cancel_delayed_work_sync(watchdog_task)
The patch moves cancel_delayed_work_sync(watchdog_task) at the beginning
of e1000_down_and_stop() thus ensuring the race is impossible.

== The issue background ==
The problem occurs, because e1000_down(), which is called under
adapter->mutex by e1000_reset_task(), tries to synchronously cancel
e1000 auxiliary works (reset_task, watchdog_task, phy_info_task,
fifo_stall_task), which take adapter->mutex in their handlers. So the
question is what does adapter->mutex protect there?
The adapter->mutex was introduced by commit 0ef4ee ("e1000: convert to
private mutex from rtnl") as a replacement for rtnl_lock() taken in the
asynchronous handlers. It targeted on fixing a similar lockdep warning
issued when e1000_down() was called under rtnl_lock(), and it fixed it,
but unfortunately it introduced the lockdep warning described above.
Anyway, that said the source of this bug is that the asynchronous works
were made to take rtnl_lock() some time ago, so let's look deeper and
find why it was added there.
The rtnl_lock() was added to asynchronous handlers by commit 338c15
("e1000: fix occasional panic on unload") in order to prevent
asynchronous handlers from execution after the module is unloaded
(e1000_down() is called) as it follows from the comment to the commit:
> Net drivers in general have an issue where timers fired
> by mod_timer or work threads with schedule_work are running
> outside of the rtnl_lock.
>
> With no other lock protection these routines are vulnerable
> to races with driver unload or reset paths.
>
> The longer term solution to this might be a redesign with
> safer locks being taken in the driver to guarantee no
> reentrance, but for now a safe and effective fix is
> to take the rtnl_lock in these routines.
I'm not sure if this locking scheme fixed the problem or just made it
unlikely, although I incline to the latter. Anyway, this was long time
ago when e1000 auxiliary works were implemented as timers scheduling
real work handlers in their routines. The e1000_down() function only
canceled the timers, but left the real handlers running if they were
running, which could result in work execution after module unload.
Today, the e1000 driver uses sane delayed works instead of the pair
timer+work to implement its delayed asynchronous handlers, and the
e1000_down() synchronously cancels all the works so that the problem
that commit 338c15 tried to cope with disappeared, and we don't need any
locks in the handlers any more. Moreover, any locking there can
potentially result in a deadlock.
So, this patch reverts commits 0ef4ee and 338c15.

on the older e1000 cards.
Here, we have increased the RESET_COUNT value to 50 because there are too
many accesses to e1000 nic on stress tests to e1000 nic, it is not enough
to set RESET_COUT 25. Experimentation has shown that it is enough to set
RESET_COUNT 50.

2fdac010bd ("via-velocity.c: update napi

of the NAPI poll handler was converted from netif_rx to netif_receive_skb.
NAPI Rx processing can be taken out of the locked section with a pair of
napi_{disable / enable} since it only races with the MTU change function.
An heavier rework of the NAPI locking would be able to perform NAPI Tx
before Rx where I simply removed one of velocity_tx_srv calls.

Pull networking fixes from David Miller:
"Mostly these are fixes for fallout due to merge window changes, as
well as cures for problems that have been with us for a much longer
period of time"
1) Johannes Berg noticed two major deficiencies in our genetlink
registration. Some genetlink protocols we passing in constant
counts for their ops array rather than something like
ARRAY_SIZE(ops) or similar. Also, some genetlink protocols were
using fixed IDs for their multicast groups.
We have to retain these fixed IDs to keep existing userland tools
working, but reserve them so that other multicast groups used by
other protocols can not possibly conflict.
In dealing with these two problems, we actually now use less state
management for genetlink operations and multicast groups.
2) When configuring interface hardware timestamping, fix several
drivers that simply do not validate that the hwtstamp_config value
is one the driver actually supports. From Ben Hutchings.
3) Invalid memory references in mwifiex driver, from Amitkumar Karwar.
4) In dev_forward_skb(), set the skb->protocol in the right order
relative to skb_scrub_packet(). From Alexei Starovoitov.
5) Bridge erroneously fails to use the proper wrapper functions to make
calls to netdev_ops->ndo_vlan_rx_{add,kill}_vid. Fix from Toshiaki
Makita.
6) When detaching a bridge port, make sure to flush all VLAN IDs to
prevent them from leaking, also from Toshiaki Makita.
7) Put in a compromise for TCP Small Queues so that deep queued devices
that delay TX reclaim non-trivially don't have such a performance
decrease. One particularly problematic area is 802.11 AMPDU in
wireless. From Eric Dumazet.
8) Fix crashes in tcp_fastopen_cache_get(), we can see NULL socket dsts
here. Fix from Eric Dumzaet, reported by Dave Jones.
9) Fix use after free in ipv6 SIT driver, from Willem de Bruijn.
10) When computing mergeable buffer sizes, virtio-net fails to take the
virtio-net header into account. From Michael Dalton.
11) Fix seqlock deadlock in ip4_datagram_connect() wrt. statistic
bumping, this one has been with us for a while. From Eric Dumazet.
12) Fix NULL deref in the new TIPC fragmentation handling, from Erik
Hugne.
13) 6lowpan bit used for traffic classification was wrong, from Jukka
Rissanen.
14) macvlan has the same issue as normal vlans did wrt. propagating LRO
disabling down to the real device, fix it the same way. From Michal
Kubecek.
15) CPSW driver needs to soft reset all slaves during suspend, from
Daniel Mack.
16) Fix small frame pacing in FQ packet scheduler, from Eric Dumazet.
17) The xen-netfront RX buffer refill timer isn't properly scheduled on
partial RX allocation success, from Ma JieYue.
18) When ipv6 ping protocol support was added, the AF_INET6 protocol
initialization cleanup path on failure was borked a little. Fix
from Vlad Yasevich.
19) If a socket disconnects during a read/recvmsg/recvfrom/etc that
blocks we can do the wrong thing with the msg_name we write back to
userspace. From Hannes Frederic Sowa. There is another fix in the
works from Hannes which will prevent future problems of this nature.
20) Fix route leak in VTI tunnel transmit, from Fan Du.

Secondary unicast MAC addresses will get deleted only when the interface is UP.
When the interface is DOWN, though these secondary MAC addresses are unusable
and awaiting to be deleted, cause the firmware to believe that they are being used.
If the user intends to set a MAC address as primary MAC from one of these
secondary MAC addresses, the firmware returns a MAC address Collision error.
Delete these secondary MAC addresses during be_close.
The secondary MAC addresses list will be refreshed during interface open anyway.

The driver currently requests the firmware to enable rx_interface options
without considering if the interface was created with that capability.
This could cause commands to firmware to fail.
To avoid this, enable only those options on an interface if the interface
was created with that capability.

During VF load, prior to sending messages on HW channel to PF the VF
checks its bulletin board to see whether the PF indicated it has closed;
If a closed PF is encountered, the VF skips sending the message.
Due to incorrect return values, there's a possible scenario in which the VF
finishes loading "successfully", while the PF hasn't actually fully configured
FW/HW for the VFs supposed configuration.
Once VF tries to send Tx packets, HW will raise an attention (and FW possibly
will start treat the VF as malicious).
The patch fails the loading process in such a scenario.

If chip enters a recovery flow just after the driver issues a DMAE request
the DMAE will timeout. Current code will cause a bnx2x_panic() as a result,
which means interface will no longer be usable (regardless of the recovery
results), as bnx2x_panic() is irreversible for the driver.
As this is a possible flow, the panic should be reached only when driver
is compiled with STOP_ON_ERROR.

Because dma-debug add new interfaces to debug dma mapping errors, pls refer
to: http://lwn.net/Articles/516640/
After dma mapping, it must call dma_mapping_error() to check mapping error,
otherwise the map_err_type alway is MAP_ERR_NOT_CHECKED, check_unmap() define
the mapping is not checked and dump the error msg. So,add dma_mapping_error()
checking to fix the WARNING
And RX DMA buffers are used repeatedly and the driver copies it into an skb,
fec_enet_rx() should not map or unmap, use dma_sync_single_for_cpu()/dma_sync_single_for_device()
instead of dma_map_single()/dma_unmap_single().
There have another potential issue: fec_enet_rx() passes the DMA address to __va().
Physical and DMA addresses are *not* the same thing. They may differ if the device
is behind an IOMMU or bounce buffering was required, or just because there is a fixed
offset between the device and host physical addresses. Also fix it in this patch.
=============================================
V2: add net_ratelimit() to limit map err message.
use dma_sync_single_for_cpu() instead of dma_map_single().

Pull DMA mask updates from Russell King:
"This series cleans up the handling of DMA masks in a lot of drivers,
fixing some bugs as we go.
Some of the more serious errors include:
- drivers which only set their coherent DMA mask if the attempt to
set the streaming mask fails.
- drivers which test for a NULL dma mask pointer, and then set the
dma mask pointer to a location in their module .data section -
which will cause problems if the module is reloaded.
To counter these, I have introduced two helper functions:
- dma_set_mask_and_coherent() takes care of setting both the
streaming and coherent masks at the same time, with the correct
error handling as specified by the API.
- dma_coerce_mask_and_coherent() which resolves the problem of
drivers forcefully setting DMA masks. This is more a marker for
future work to further clean these locations up - the code which
creates the devices really should be initialising these, but to fix
that in one go along with this change could potentially be very
disruptive.
The last thing this series does is prise away some of Linux's addition
to "DMA addresses are physical addresses and RAM always starts at
zero". We have ARM LPAE systems where all system memory is above 4GB
physical, hence having DMA masks interpreted by (eg) the block layers
as describing physical addresses in the range 0..DMAMASK fails on
these platforms. Santosh Shilimkar addresses this in this series; the
patches were copied to the appropriate people multiple times but were
ignored.
Fixing this also gets rid of some ARM weirdness in the setup of the
max*pfn variables, and brings ARM into line with every other Linux

Pull networking updates from David Miller:
1) The addition of nftables. No longer will we need protocol aware
firewall filtering modules, it can all live in userspace.
At the core of nftables is a, for lack of a better term, virtual
machine that executes byte codes to inspect packet or metadata
(arriving interface index, etc.) and make verdict decisions.
Besides support for loading packet contents and comparing them, the
interpreter supports lookups in various datastructures as
fundamental operations. For example sets are supports, and
therefore one could create a set of whitelist IP address entries
which have ACCEPT verdicts attached to them, and use the appropriate
byte codes to do such lookups.
Since the interpreted code is composed in userspace, userspace can
do things like optimize things before giving it to the kernel.
Another major improvement is the capability of atomically updating
portions of the ruleset. In the existing netfilter implementation,
one has to update the entire rule set in order to make a change and
this is very expensive.
Userspace tools exist to create nftables rules using existing
netfilter rule sets, but both kernel implementations will need to
co-exist for quite some time as we transition from the old to the
new stuff.
Kudos to Patrick McHardy, Pablo Neira Ayuso, and others who have
worked so hard on this.
2) Daniel Borkmann and Hannes Frederic Sowa made several improvements
to our pseudo-random number generator, mostly used for things like
UDP port randomization and netfitler, amongst other things.
In particular the taus88 generater is updated to taus113, and test
cases are added.
3) Support 64-bit rates in HTB and TBF schedulers, from Eric Dumazet
and Yang Yingliang.
4) Add support for new 577xx tigon3 chips to tg3 driver, from Nithin
Sujir.
5) Fix two fatal flaws in TCP dynamic right sizing, from Eric Dumazet,
Neal Cardwell, and Yuchung Cheng.
6) Allow IP_TOS and IP_TTL to be specified in sendmsg() ancillary
control message data, much like other socket option attributes.
From Francesco Fusco.
7) Allow applications to specify a cap on the rate computed
automatically by the kernel for pacing flows, via a new
SO_MAX_PACING_RATE socket option. From Eric Dumazet.
8) Make the initial autotuned send buffer sizing in TCP more closely
reflect actual needs, from Eric Dumazet.
9) Currently early socket demux only happens for TCP sockets, but we
can do it for connected UDP sockets too. Implementation from Shawn
Bohrer.
10) Refactor inet socket demux with the goal of improving hash demux
performance for listening sockets. With the main goals being able
to use RCU lookups on even request sockets, and eliminating the
listening lock contention. From Eric Dumazet.
11) The bonding layer has many demuxes in it's fast path, and an RCU
conversion was started back in 3.11, several changes here extend the
RCU usage to even more locations. From Ding Tianhong and Wang
Yufen, based upon suggestions by Nikolay Aleksandrov and Veaceslav
Falico.
12) Allow stackability of segmentation offloads to, in particular, allow
segmentation offloading over tunnels. From Eric Dumazet.
13) Significantly improve the handling of secret keys we input into the
various hash functions in the inet hashtables, TCP fast open, as
well as syncookies. From Hannes Frederic Sowa. The key fundamental
operation is "net_get_random_once()" which uses static keys.
Hannes even extended this to ipv4/ipv6 fragmentation handling and
our generic flow dissector.
14) The generic driver layer takes care now to set the driver data to
NULL on device removal, so it's no longer necessary for drivers to
explicitly set it to NULL any more. Many drivers have been cleaned
up in this way, from Jingoo Han.
15) Add a BPF based packet scheduler classifier, from Daniel Borkmann.
16) Improve CRC32 interfaces and generic SKB checksum iterators so that
SCTP's checksumming can more cleanly be handled. Also from Daniel
Borkmann.
17) Add a new PMTU discovery mode, IP_PMTUDISC_INTERFACE, which forces
using the interface MTU value. This helps avoid PMTU attacks,
particularly on DNS servers. From Hannes Frederic Sowa.
18) Use generic XPS for transmit queue steering rather than internal
(re-)implementation in virtio-net. From Jason Wang.

The max_vfs parameter has a limit of 63 and silently fails (adding 0 vfs) when
it is out of range. This patch adds a warning so that the user knows something
went wrong. Also, this patch moves the warning in ixgbe_enable_sriov() to where
max_vfs is checked, so that even an out of range value will show the deprecated
warning. Previously, an out of range parameter didn't even warn the user to use

The number of stations in use is kept in the num_rx_pools counter
in the ixgbe_adapter structure. This is in turn used by the queue
allocation scheme to determine how many queues are needed to support
the number of pools in use with the current feature set.
This works as long as the pools are added and destroyed in order
because (num_rx_pools * queues_per_pool) is equal to the last
queue in use by a pool. But as soon as you delete a pool out of
order this is no longer the case. So the above multiplication
allocates to few queues and a pool may reference a ring that has
not been allocated/initialized.
To resolve use the bit mask of in use pools to determine the final
pool being used and allocate enough queues so that we don't
inadvertently remove its queues.

In the recent support for layer 2 hardware acceleration, I added a
few references to real_num_rx_queues and num_rx_queues which are
only available with CONFIG_RPS.
The fix is first to remove unnecessary references to num_rx_queues.
Because the hardware offload case is limited to cases where RX queues
and TX queues are equal we only need a single check. Then wrap the
single case in an ifdef.
The patch that introduce this is here,

Changing MTU size of an xgmac network interface while it is active can
cause a panic like
skbuff: skb_over_panic: text:c03bc62c len:1090 put:1090 head:edfb6900 data:edfb6942 tail:0xedfb6d84 end:0xedfb6bc0 dev:eth0

PC is at skb_panic+0x64/0x70
LR is at wake_up_klogd+0x5c/0x68
This happens because xgmac_change_mtu modifies dev->mtu before the
network interface is quiesced. And thus there still might be buffers
in use which have a buffer size based on the old MTU.
To fix this I moved the change of dev->mtu after the call to
xgmac_stop.
Another modification is required (in xgmac_stop) to ensure that
xgmac_xmit is really not called anymore (xgmac_tx_complete might wake
up the queue again).
I've tested the fix by switching MTU size every second between 600 and
1500 while network traffic was going on. The test box survived a test
of several hours (until I've stopped it) whereas w/o this fix above
panic occurs after several minutes (at most).
Change since v1:
- remove call to netif_stop_queue at beginning of xgmac_stop
- use netif_tx_disable instead of locking+netif_stop_queue

For each RX/TX ring and its CQ, allocation is done on a NUMA node that
corresponds to the core that the data structure should operate on.
The assumption is that the core number is reflected by the ring index.
The affected allocations are the ring/CQ data structures,
the TX/RX info and the shared HW/SW buffer.
For TX rings, each core has rings of all UPs.

and outboxes are zeroed out, initialize the mailbox buffer to all zeroes.
This is especially important for SRIOV comm-channel virtual commands

In order to enable lockdep on seqcount/seqlock structures, we
must explicitly initialize any locks.
The u64_stats_sync structure, uses a seqcount, and thus we need
to introduce a u64_stats_init() function and use it to initialize
the structure.
This unfortunately adds a lot of fairly trivial initialization code
to a number of drivers. But the benefit of ensuring correctness makes
this worth while.
Because these changes are required for lockdep to be enabled, and the
changes are quite trivial, I've not yet split this patch out into 30-some
separate patches, as I figured it would be better to get the various
maintainers thoughts on how to best merge this change along with
the seqcount lockdep enablement.
Feedback would be appreciated!

Commit cc9d4598 'net: mv643xx_eth: use of_phy_connect if phy_node
present' made the call to phy_scan optional, if the DT has a link to
the phy node.
However phy_scan has the side effect of calling phy_addr_set, which
writes the phy MDIO address to the ethernet controller. If phy_addr_set
is not called, and the bootloader has not set the correct address then
the driver will fail to function.

Implements resource quota grant decision when resources are requested,
for the following resources: QPs, CQs, SRQs, MPTs, MTTs, vlans, MACs,
and Counters.
When granting a resource, the quota system increases the allocated-count
for that slave.
When the slave later frees the resource, its allocated-count is reduced.
A spinlock is used to protect the integrity of each resource's free-pool counter.
(One slave may be in the process of being granted a resource while another
slave has crashed, initiating cleanup of that slave's resource quotas).

In current kernels, the mlx4 driver running on a VM does not
differentiate between max resource numbers for the HCA and
max quotas -- it simply takes the quota values passed to it
as max-resource values.
However, the driver actually requires the VFs to be aware of
the actual number of resources that the HCA was initialized with,
for QPs, CQs, SRQs and MPTs.
For QPs, CQs and SRQs, the reason is that in completion handling
the driver must know which of the 24 bits are the actual resource
number, and which are "padding" bits.
For MPTs, also, the driver assumes knowledge of the number of MPTs
in the system.
The previous commit fixes the quota logic on the VM for the quota values
passed to it by QUERY_FUNC_CAPS.
For QPs, CQs, SRQs, and MPTs, it takes the max resource numbers
from QUERY_HCA (and not QUERY_FUNC_CAPS). The quotas passed
in QUERY_FUNC_CAPS are used to report max resource number values
in the response to ib_query_device.
However, the Hypervisor driver must consider that VMs
may be running previous kernels, and compatibility must be preserved.
To resolve the incompatibility with previous kernels running on VMs,
we deprecated the quota fields in mlx4_QUERY_FUNC_CAP. In the
deprecated fields, we pass the max-resource values from INIT_HCA
The quota fields are moved to a new location, and the current kernel
driver takes the proper values from that location. There is
also a new flag in dword 0, bit 28 of the mlx4_QUERY_FUNC_CAP mailbox;
if this flag is set, the (VM) driver takes the quota values from the
new location.
VMs running previous kernels will work properly, except that the max resource
numbers reported in ib_query_device for these resources will be
too high. The Hypervisor driver will, however, enforce the quotas
for these VMs.

This is step #1 for implementing SRIOV resource quotas for VFs.
Quotas are implemented per resource type for VFs and the PF, to prevent
any entity from simply grabbing all the resources for itself and leaving
the other entities unable to obtain such resources.
Resources which are allocated using quotas: QPs, CQs, SRQs, MPTs, MTTs, MAC,
VLAN, and Counters.
The quota system works as follows:
Each entity (VF or PF) is given a max number of a given resource (its quota),
and a guaranteed minimum number for each resource (starvation prevention).
For QPs, CQs, SRQs, MPTs and MTTs:
50% of the available quantity for the resource is divided equally among
the PF and all the active VFs (i.e., the number of VFs in the mlx4_core module
parameter "num_vfs"). This 50% represents the "guaranteed minimum" pool.
The other 50% is the "free pool", allocated on a first-come-first-serve basis.
For each VF/PF, resources are first allocated from its "guaranteed-minimum"
pool. When that pool is exhausted, the driver attempts to allocate from
the resource "free-pool".
The quota (i.e., max) for the VFs and the PF is:
The free-pool amount (50% of the real max) + the guaranteed minimum
For MACs:
Guarantee 2 MACs per VF/PF per port. As a result, since we have only
128 MACs per port, reduce the allowable number of VFs from 64 to 63.
Any remaining MACs are put into a free pool.
For VLANs:
For the PF, the per-port quota is 128 and guarantee is 64
(to allow the PF to register at least a VLAN per VF in VST mode).
For the VFs, the per-port quota is 64 and the guarantee is 0.
We assume that VGT VFs are trusted not to abuse the VLAN resource.
For Counters:
For all functions (PF and VFs), the quota is 128 and the guarantee is 0.
In this patch, we define the needed structures, which are added to the
resource-tracker struct. In addition, we do initialization
for the resource quota, and adjust the query_device response to use quotas
rather than resource maxima.
As part of the implementation, we introduce a new field in
mlx4_dev: quotas. This field holds the resource quotas used
to report maxima to the upper layers (ib_core, via query_device).
The HCA maxima of these values are passed to the VFs (via
QUERY_HCA) so that they may continue to use these in handling
QPs, CQs, SRQs and MPTs.

In procedure mlx4_init_mr_table(), slaves should do no processing,
but should return success. This initialization is hypervisor-only.
However, the check for num_mpts being a power-of-2 was performed
before the check to return immediately if the driver is for a slave.
This resulted in spurious failures.
The order of performing the checks is reversed, so that if the
driver is for a slave, no processing is done and success is returned.

In upstream kernels under SRIOV, the vlan register/unregister calls
were NOPs (doing nothing and returning OK). We detect these old
calls from guests (via the comm channel), since previously the
port number in mlx4_register_vlan was passed (improperly) in the
out_param. This has been corrected so that the port number is now
passed in bits 8..15 of the in_modifier field.
For old calls, these bits will be zero, so if the passed port
number is zero, we can still look at the out_param field to see
if it contains a valid port number. If yes, the VM is running
an old driver.
Since for old drivers, the register/unregister_vlan wrappers were
NOPs, we continue this policy -- the reason being that upstream
had an additional bug in eth driver running on guests (where
procedure mlx4_en_vlan_rx_kill_vid() had the following code:
if (!mlx4_find_cached_vlan(mdev->dev, priv->port, vid, &idx))
mlx4_unregister_vlan(mdev->dev, priv->port, idx);
else
en_err(priv, "could not find vid %d in cache\n", vid);
On a VM, mlx4_find_cached_vlan() will always fail, since the
vlan cache is located on the Hypervisor; on guests it is empty.
Therefore, if we allow upstream guests to register vlans, we will
have vlan leakage since the unregister will never be performed.
Leaving vlan reg/unreg for old guest drivers as a NOP is not a
feature regression, since in upstream the register/unregister
vlan wrapper is a NOP.

The functions mlx4_register_vlan, mlx4_unregister_vlan, mlx4_register_mac,
mlx4_unregister_mac all made illegal use of the out_param in multifunc mode
to pass the port number. The firmware spec specifies that the port number
should be passed in bits 8..15 of the input-modifier field for ALLOC_RES and
FREE_RES (sections 20.15.1 and 20.15.2).
For MAC register/unregister, this patch contains workarounds so that guests
running previous kernels continue to work on a new Hypervisor, and guests
running the new kernel will continue to work on old hypervisors.
Vlan registeration capability is still not operational in multifunction mode,
since the vlan wrapper functions are not implemented in this patch.

Conflicts:
drivers/net/ethernet/emulex/benet/be.h
drivers/net/netconsole.c
net/bridge/br_private.h
Three mostly trivial conflicts.
The net/bridge/br_private.h conflict was a function signature (argument
addition) change overlapping with the extern removals from Joe Perches.
In drivers/net/netconsole.c we had one change adjusting a printk message
whilst another changed "printk(KERN_INFO" into "pr_info(".
Lastly, the emulex change was a new inline function addition overlapping
with Joe Perches's extern removals.
