03b9c7fa3f bpf: Replace strncpy() with strscpy()
Using strncpy() on NUL-terminated strings is considered deprecated[1].
Moreover, if the length of 'task->comm' is less than the destination buffer
size, strncpy() will NUL-pad the destination buffer, which is a needless
performance penalty.

Replacing strncpy() with strscpy() fixes all these issues.

5844101a1b bpf: Reject programs that try to load __percpu memory.
With the introduction of the btf_type_tag "percpu", we can add a
MEM_PERCPU to identify those pointers that point to percpu memory.
The ability of differetiating percpu pointers from regular memory
pointers have two benefits:

 1. It forbids unexpected use of percpu pointers, such as direct loads.
    In kernel, there are special functions used for accessing percpu
    memory. Directly loading percpu memory is meaningless. We already
    have BPF helpers like bpf_per_cpu_ptr() and bpf_this_cpu_ptr() that
    wrap the kernel percpu functions. So we can now convert percpu
    pointers into regular pointers in a safe way.

 2. Previously, bpf_per_cpu_ptr() and bpf_this_cpu_ptr() only work on
    PTR_TO_PERCPU_BTF_ID, a special reg_type which describes static
    percpu variables in kernel (we rely on pahole to encode them into
    vmlinux BTF). Now, since we can identify __percpu tagged pointers,
    we can also identify dynamically allocated percpu memory as well.
    It means we can use bpf_xxx_cpu_ptr() on dynamic percpu memory.
    This would be very convenient when accessing fields like
    "cgroup->rstat_cpu".

bff61f6fae bpf: Fix checking PTR_TO_BTF_ID in check_mem_access
With the introduction of MEM_USER in

 commit c6f1bfe89a ("bpf: reject program if a __user tagged memory accessed in kernel way")

PTR_TO_BTF_ID can be combined with a MEM_USER tag. Therefore, most
likely, when we compare reg_type against PTR_TO_BTF_ID, we want to use
the reg's base_type. Previously the check in check_mem_access() wants
to say: if the reg is BTF_ID but not NULL, the execution flow falls
into the 'then' branch. But now a reg of (BTF_ID | MEM_USER), which
should go into the 'then' branch, goes into the 'else'.

The end results before and after this patch are the same: regs tagged
with MEM_USER get rejected, but not in a way we intended. So fix the
condition, the error message now is correct.

Before (log from commit 696c390115):

  $ ./test_progs -v -n 22/3

24d5bb806c bpf: Harden register offset checks for release helpers and kfuncs
Let's ensure that the PTR_TO_BTF_ID reg being passed in to release BPF
helpers and kfuncs always has its offset set to 0. While not a real
problem now, there's a very real possibility this will become a problem
when more and more kfuncs are exposed, and more BPF helpers are added
which can release PTR_TO_BTF_ID.

Previous commits already protected against non-zero var_off. One of the
case we are concerned about now is when we have a type that can be
returned by e.g. an acquire kfunc:

struct foo {
	int a;
	int b;
	struct bar b;
};

... and struct bar is also a type that can be returned by another
acquire kfunc.

Then, doing the following sequence:

	struct foo *f = bpf_get_foo(); // acquire kfunc
	if (!f)
		return 0;
	bpf_put_bar(&f->b); // release kfunc

... would work with the current code, since the btf_struct_ids_match
takes reg->off into account for matching pointer type with release kfunc
argument type, but would obviously be incorrect, and most likely lead to
a kernel crash. A test has been included later to prevent regressions in
this area.

e1fad0ff46 bpf: Disallow negative offset in check_ptr_off_reg
check_ptr_off_reg only allows fixed offset to be set for PTR_TO_BTF_ID,
where reg->off < 0 doesn't make sense. This would shift the pointer
backwards, and fails later in btf_struct_ids_match or btf_struct_walk
due to out of bounds access (since offset is interpreted as unsigned).

Improve the verifier by rejecting this case by using a better error
message for BPF helpers and kfunc, by putting a check inside the
check_func_arg_reg_off function.

Also, update existing verifier selftests to work with new error string.

655efe5089 bpf: Fix PTR_TO_BTF_ID var_off check
When kfunc support was added, check_ctx_reg was called for PTR_TO_CTX
register, but no offset checks were made for PTR_TO_BTF_ID. Only
reg->off was taken into account by btf_struct_ids_match, which protected
against type mismatch due to non-zero reg->off, but when reg->off was
zero, a user could set the variable offset of the register and allow it
to be passed to kfunc, leading to bad pointer being passed into the
kernel.

Fix this by reusing the extracted helper check_func_arg_reg_off from
previous commit, and make one call before checking all supported
register types. Since the list is maintained, any future changes will be
taken into account by updating check_func_arg_reg_off. This function
prevents non-zero var_off to be set for PTR_TO_BTF_ID, but still allows
a fixed non-zero reg->off, which is needed for type matching to work
correctly when using pointer arithmetic.

ARG_DONTCARE is passed as arg_type, since kfunc doesn't support
accepting a ARG_PTR_TO_ALLOC_MEM without relying on size of parameter
type from BTF (in case of pointer), or using a mem, len pair. The
forcing of offset check for ARG_PTR_TO_ALLOC_MEM is done because ringbuf
helpers obtain the size from the header located at the beginning of the
memory region, hence any changes to the original pointer shouldn't be
allowed. In case of kfunc, size is always known, either at verification
time, or using the length parameter, hence this forcing is not required.

Since this check will happen once already for PTR_TO_CTX, remove the
check_ptr_off_reg call inside its block.

Lift the list of register types allowed for having fixed and variable
offsets when passed as helper function arguments into a common helper,

consistent rules across helpers and kfuncs. Also, convert check_func_arg

ceac059ed4 bpf: Cache the last valid build_id
For binaries that are statically linked, consecutive stack frames are
likely to be in the same VMA and therefore have the same build id.

On a real-world workload, we observed that 66% of CPU cycles in
__bpf_get_stackid() were spent on build_id_parse() and find_vma().

As an optimization for this case, we can cache the previous frame's
VMA, if the new frame has the same VMA as the previous one, reuse the
previous one's build id.

We are holding the MM locks as reader across the entire loop, so we
don't need to worry about VMA going away.

Tested through "stacktrace_build_id" and "stacktrace_build_id_nmi" in
test_progs.

80bebebdac bpf: Fix issue with bpf preload module taking over stdout/stdin of kernel.
In cb80ddc671 ("bpf: Convert bpf_preload.ko to use light skeleton.")
BPF preload was switched from user mode process to use in-kernel light
skeleton instead. However, in the kernel context, early in the boot
sequence, the first available FD can start from 0, instead of normally
3 for user mode process. So FDs 0 and 1 are then used for loaded BPF
programs and prevent init process from setting up stdin/stdout/stderr on
FD 0, 1, and 2 as expected.

Before the fix:

ls -lah /proc/1/fd/*

lrwx------1 root root 64 Feb 23 17:20 /proc/1/fd/0 -> /dev/null
lrwx------ 1 root root 64 Feb 23 17:20 /proc/1/fd/1 -> /dev/null

lrwx------ 1 root root 64 Feb 23 17:20 /proc/1/fd/6 -> /dev/console
lrwx------ 1 root root 64 Feb 23 17:20 /proc/1/fd/7 -> /dev/console

After the fix:

ls -lah /proc/1/fd/*

lrwx------ 1 root root 64 Feb 24 21:23 /proc/1/fd/0 -> /dev/console
lrwx------ 1 root root 64 Feb 24 21:23 /proc/1/fd/1 -> /dev/console
lrwx------ 1 root root 64 Feb 24 21:23 /proc/1/fd/2 -> /dev/console

Fix by closing prog FDs after initialization. struct bpf_prog's
themselves are kept alive through direct kernel references taken with
bpf_link_get_from_fd().

d24d2a2b0a bpf: bpf_prog_pack: Set proper size before freeing ro_header
bpf_prog_pack_free() uses header->size to decide whether the header
should be freed with module_memfree() or the bpf_prog_pack logic.
However, in kvmalloc() failure path of bpf_jit_binary_pack_alloc(),
header->size is not set yet. As a result, bpf_prog_pack_free() may treat
a slice of a pack as a standalone kvmalloc'd header and call
module_memfree() on the whole pack. This in turn causes use-after-free by
other users of the pack.

Fix this by setting ro_header->size before freeing ro_header.

 INFO: task hung in rcu_barrier

Nothing prevents batch ops to process huge amount of data,
we need to add schedule points in them.

Note that maybe_wait_bpf_programs(map) calls from
generic_map_delete_batch() can be factorized by moving
the call after the loop.

This will be done later in -next tree once we get this fix merged,
unless there is strong opinion doing this optimization sooner.

45ce4b4f90 bpf: Fix crash due to out of bounds access into reg2btf_ids.
When commit e6ac2450d6 ("bpf: Support bpf program calling kernel function") added
kfunc support, it defined reg2btf_ids as a cheap way to translate the verifier
reg type to the appropriate btf_vmlinux BTF ID, however
commit c25b2ae136 ("bpf: Replace PTR_TO_XXX_OR_NULL with PTR_TO_XXX | PTR_MAYBE_NULL")
moved the __BPF_REG_TYPE_MAX from the last member of bpf_reg_type enum to after
the base register types, and defined other variants using type flag
composition. However, now, the direct usage of reg->type to index into
reg2btf_ids may no longer fall into __BPF_REG_TYPE_MAX range, and hence lead to
out of bounds access and kernel crash on dereference of bad pointer.

adb8fa195e libbpf: Split bpf_core_apply_relo()
BTFGen needs to run the core relocation logic in order to understand
what are the types involved in a given relocation.

Currently bpf_core_apply_relo() calculates and **applies** a relocation
to an instruction. Having both operations in the same function makes it
difficult to only calculate the relocation without patching the
instruction. This commit splits that logic in two different phases: (1)
calculate the relocation and (2) patch the instruction.

For the first phase bpf_core_apply_relo() is renamed to
bpf_core_calc_relo_insn() who is now only on charge of calculating the
relocation, the second phase uses the already existing
bpf_core_patch_insn(). bpf_object__relocate_core() uses both of them and
the BTFGen will use only bpf_core_calc_relo_insn().

8cbf062a25 bpf: Reject kfunc calls that overflow insn->imm
Now kfunc call uses s32 to represent the offset between the address of
kfunc and __bpf_call_base, but it doesn't check whether or not s32 will
be overflowed. The overflow is possible when kfunc is in module and the
offset between module and kernel is greater than 2GB. Take arm64 as an
example, before commit b2eed9b588 ("arm64/kernel: kaslr: reduce module
randomization range to 2 GB"), the offset between module symbol and
__bpf_call_base will in 4GB range due to KASLR and may overflow s32.

So add an extra checking to reject these invalid kfunc calls.

cb80ddc671 bpf: Convert bpf_preload.ko to use light skeleton.
The main change is a move of the single line
  #include "iterators.lskel.h"
from iterators/iterators.c to bpf_preload_kern.c.
Which means that generated light skeleton can be used from user space or
user mode driver like iterators.c or from the kernel module or the kernel itself.
The direct use of light skeleton from the kernel module simplifies the code,
since UMD is no longer necessary. The libbpf.a required user space and UMD. The
CO-RE in the kernel and generated "loader bpf program" used by the light
skeleton are capable to perform complex loading operations traditionally
provided by libbpf. In addition UMD approach was launching UMD process
every time bpffs has to be mounted. With light skeleton in the kernel
the bpf_preload kernel module loads bpf iterators once and pins them
multiple times into different bpffs mounts.

33c9805860 bpf: Introduce bpf_jit_binary_pack_[alloc|finalize|free]
This is the jit binary allocator built on top of bpf_prog_pack.

bpf_prog_pack allocates RO memory, which cannot be used directly by the
JIT engine. Therefore, a temporary rw buffer is allocated for the JIT
engine. Once JIT is done, bpf_jit_binary_pack_finalize is used to copy
the program to the RO memory.

bpf_jit_binary_pack_alloc reserves 16 bytes of extra space for illegal
instructions, which is small than the 128 bytes space reserved by
bpf_jit_binary_alloc. This change is necessary for bpf_jit_binary_hdr
to find the correct header. Also, flag use_bpf_prog_pack is added to
differentiate a program allocated by bpf_jit_binary_pack_alloc.

57631054fa bpf: Introduce bpf_prog_pack allocator
Most BPF programs are small, but they consume a page each. For systems
with busy traffic and many BPF programs, this could add significant
pressure to instruction TLB. High iTLB pressure usually causes slow down
for the whole system, which includes visible performance degradation for
production workloads.

Introduce bpf_prog_pack allocator to pack multiple BPF programs in a huge
page. The memory is then allocated in 64 byte chunks.

Memory allocated by bpf_prog_pack allocator is RO protected after initial
allocation. To write to it, the user (jit engine) need to use text poke
API.

The kasan error is triggered with an illegal BTF like below:
   type 0: void
   type 1: int
   type 2: decl_tag to func type 3
   type 3: func to func_proto type 8
The total number of types is 4 and the type 3 is illegal
since its func_proto type is out of range.

Currently, the target type of decl_tag can be struct/union, var or func.
Both struct/union and var implemented their own 'resolve' callback functions
and hence handled properly in kernel.
But func type doesn't have 'resolve' callback function. When
btf_decl_tag_resolve() tries to check func type, it tries to get
vlen of its func_proto type, which triggered the above kasan error.

To fix the issue, btf_decl_tag_resolve() needs to do btf_func_check()
before trying to accessing func_proto type.
In the current implementation, func type is checked with
btf_func_check() in the main checking function btf_check_all_types().
To fix the above kasan issue, let us implement 'resolve' callback
func type properly. The 'resolve' callback will be also called
in btf_check_all_types() for func types.

b293dcc473 bpf: Use VM_MAP instead of VM_ALLOC for ringbuf
After commit 2fd3fb0be1d1 ("kasan, vmalloc: unpoison VM_ALLOC pages

in __get_vm_area_node() when KASAN is enabled. But now the flag for
ringbuf area is VM_ALLOC, so KASAN will complain out-of-bound access

c6f1bfe89a bpf: reject program if a __user tagged memory accessed in kernel way
BPF verifier supports direct memory access for BPF_PROG_TYPE_TRACING type
of bpf programs, e.g., a->b. If "a" is a pointer
pointing to kernel memory, bpf verifier will allow user to write
code in C like a->b and the verifier will translate it to a kernel
load properly. If "a" is a pointer to user memory, it is expected
that bpf developer should be bpf_probe_read_user() helper to
get the value a->b. Without utilizing BTF __user tagging information,
current verifier will assume that a->b is a kernel memory access
and this may generate incorrect result.

Now BTF contains __user information, it can check whether the
pointer points to a user memory or not. If it is, the verifier
can reject the program and force users to use bpf_probe_read_user()
helper explicitly.

In the future, we can easily extend btf_add_space for other
address space tagging, for example, rcu/percpu etc.

46531a3036 cgroup/bpf: fast path skb BPF filtering
Even though there is a static key protecting from overhead from
cgroup-bpf skb filtering when there is nothing attached, in many cases
it's not enough as registering a filter for one type will ruin the fast
path for all others. It's observed in production servers I've looked
at but also in laptops, where registration is done during init by
systemd or something else.

Add a per-socket fast path check guarding from such overhead. This
affects both receive and transmit paths of TCP, UDP and other
protocols. It showed ~1% tx/s improvement in small payload UDP
send benchmarks using a real NIC and in a server environment and the
number jumps to 2-3% for preemtible kernels.

b44123b4a3 bpf: Add cgroup helpers bpf_{get,set}_retval to get/set syscall return value
The helpers continue to use int for retval because all the hooks
are int-returning rather than long-returning. The return value of
bpf_set_retval is int for future-proofing, in case in the future
there may be errors trying to set the retval.

After the previous patch, if a program rejects a syscall by
returning 0, an -EPERM will be generated no matter if the retval
is already set to -err. This patch change it being forced only if
retval is not -err. This is because we want to support, for
example, invoking bpf_set_retval(-EINVAL) and return 0, and have
the syscall return value be -EINVAL not -EPERM.

For BPF_PROG_CGROUP_INET_EGRESS_RUN_ARRAY, the prior behavior is
that, if the return value is NET_XMIT_DROP, the packet is silently
dropped. We preserve this behavior for backward compatibility
reasons, so even if an errno is set, the errno does not return to
caller. However, setting a non-err to retval cannot propagate so
this is not allowed and we return a -EFAULT in that case.

c4dcfdd406 bpf: Move getsockopt retval to struct bpf_cg_run_ctx
The retval value is moved to struct bpf_cg_run_ctx for ease of access
in different prog types with different context structs layouts. The
helper implementation (to be added in a later patch in the series) can
simply perform a container_of from current->bpf_ctx to retrieve
bpf_cg_run_ctx.

Unfortunately, there is no easy way to access the current task_struct
via the verifier BPF bytecode rewrite, aside from possibly calling a
helper, so a pointer to current task is added to struct bpf_sockopt_kern
so that the rewritten BPF bytecode can access struct bpf_cg_run_ctx with
an indirection.

For backward compatibility, if a getsockopt program rejects a syscall
by returning 0, an -EPERM will be generated, by having the
BPF_PROG_RUN_ARRAY_CG family macros automatically set the retval to
-EPERM. Unlike prior to this patch, this -EPERM will be visible to
ctx->retval for any other hooks down the line in the prog array.

Additionally, the restriction that getsockopt filters can only set
the retval to 0 is removed, considering that certain getsockopt
implementations may return optlen. Filters are now able to set the
value arbitrarily.

f10d059661 bpf: Make BPF_PROG_RUN_ARRAY return -err instead of allow boolean
Right now BPF_PROG_RUN_ARRAY and related macros return 1 or 0
for whether the prog array allows or rejects whatever is being
hooked. The caller of these macros then return -EPERM or continue
processing based on thw macro's return value. Unforunately this is
inflexible, since -EPERM is the only err that can be returned.

This patch should be a no-op; it prepares for the next patch. The
returning of the -EPERM is moved to inside the macros, so the outer
functions are directly returning what the macros returned if they
are non-zero.

a672b2e36a bpf: Fix ringbuf memory type confusion when passing to helpers
The bpf_ringbuf_submit() and bpf_ringbuf_discard() have ARG_PTR_TO_ALLOC_MEM
in their bpf_func_proto definition as their first argument, and thus both expect
the result from a prior bpf_ringbuf_reserve() call which has a return type of
RET_PTR_TO_ALLOC_MEM_OR_NULL.

While the non-NULL memory from bpf_ringbuf_reserve() can be passed to other
helpers, the two sinks (bpf_ringbuf_submit(), bpf_ringbuf_discard()) right now
only enforce a register type of PTR_TO_MEM.

This can lead to potential type confusion since it would allow other PTR_TO_MEM
memory to be passed into the two sinks which did not come from bpf_ringbuf_reserve().

Add a new MEM_ALLOC composable type attribute for PTR_TO_MEM, and enforce that:

 - bpf_ringbuf_reserve() returns NULL or PTR_TO_MEM | MEM_ALLOC
 - bpf_ringbuf_submit() and bpf_ringbuf_discard() only take PTR_TO_MEM | MEM_ALLOC

64620e0a1e bpf: Fix out of bounds access for ringbuf helpers
Both bpf_ringbuf_submit() and bpf_ringbuf_discard() have ARG_PTR_TO_ALLOC_MEM
in their bpf_func_proto definition as their first argument. They both expect
the result from a prior bpf_ringbuf_reserve() call which has a return type of
RET_PTR_TO_ALLOC_MEM_OR_NULL.

Meaning, after a NULL check in the code, the verifier will promote the register
type in the non-NULL branch to a PTR_TO_MEM and in the NULL branch to a known
zero scalar. Generally, pointer arithmetic on PTR_TO_MEM is allowed, so the
latter could have an offset.

The ARG_PTR_TO_ALLOC_MEM expects a PTR_TO_MEM register type. However, the non-
zero result from bpf_ringbuf_reserve() must be fed into either bpf_ringbuf_submit()
or bpf_ringbuf_discard() but with the original offset given it will then read
out the struct bpf_ringbuf_hdr mapping.

The verifier missed to enforce a zero offset, so that out of bounds access
can be triggered which could be used to escalate privileges if unprivileged
BPF was enabled (disabled by default in kernel).

6788ab2350 bpf: Generally fix helper register offset check
Right now the assertion on check_ptr_off_reg() is only enforced for register
types PTR_TO_CTX (and open coded also for PTR_TO_BTF_ID), however, this is
insufficient since many other PTR_TO_* register types such as PTR_TO_FUNC do
not handle/expect register offsets when passed to helper functions.

Given this can slip-through easily when adding new types, make this an explicit
allow-list and reject all other current and future types by default if this is
encountered.

Also, extend check_ptr_off_reg() to handle PTR_TO_BTF_ID as well instead of
duplicating it. For PTR_TO_BTF_ID, reg->off is used for BTF to match expected
BTF ids if struct offset is used. This part still needs to be allowed, but the
dynamic off from the tnum must be rejected.

5c073f26f9 bpf: Add reference tracking support to kfunc
This patch adds verifier support for PTR_TO_BTF_ID return type of kfunc
to be a reference, by reusing acquire_reference_state/release_reference
support for existing in-kernel bpf helpers.

We make use of the three kfunc types:

- BTF_KFUNC_TYPE_ACQUIRE
  Return true if kfunc_btf_id is an acquire kfunc. This will
  acquire_reference_state for the returned PTR_TO_BTF_ID (this is the
  only allow return value). Note that acquire kfunc must always return a
  PTR_TO_BTF_ID{_OR_NULL}, otherwise the program is rejected.

- BTF_KFUNC_TYPE_RELEASE
  Return true if kfunc_btf_id is a release kfunc. This will release the
  reference to the passed in PTR_TO_BTF_ID which has a reference state
  (from earlier acquire kfunc).
  The btf_check_func_arg_match returns the regno (of argument register,
  hence > 0) if the kfunc is a release kfunc, and a proper referenced
  PTR_TO_BTF_ID is being passed to it.
  This is similar to how helper call check uses bpf_call_arg_meta to
  store the ref_obj_id that is later used to release the reference.
  Similar to in-kernel helper, we only allow passing one referenced
  PTR_TO_BTF_ID as an argument. It can also be passed in to normal
  kfunc, but in case of release kfunc there must always be one
  PTR_TO_BTF_ID argument that is referenced.

- BTF_KFUNC_TYPE_RET_NULL
  For kfunc returning PTR_TO_BTF_ID, tells if it can be NULL, hence
  force caller to mark the pointer not null (using check) before
  accessing it. Note that taking into account the case fixed by commit
  93c230e3f5 ("bpf: Enforce id generation for all may-be-null register type")
  we assign a non-zero id for mark_ptr_or_null_reg logic. Later, if more
  return types are supported by kfunc, which have a _OR_NULL variant, it
  might be better to move this id generation under a common
  reg_type_may_be_null check, similar to the case in the commit.

Referenced PTR_TO_BTF_ID is currently only limited to kfunc, but can be
extended in the future to other BPF helpers as well. For now, we can
rely on the btf_struct_ids_match check to ensure we get the pointer to
the expected struct type. In the future, care needs to be taken to avoid
ambiguity for reference PTR_TO_BTF_ID passed to release function, in
case multiple candidates can release same BTF ID.

e.g. there might be two release kfuncs (or kfunc and helper):

foo(struct abc *p);
bar(struct abc *p);

... such that both release a PTR_TO_BTF_ID with btf_id of struct abc. In
this case we would need to track the acquire function corresponding to
the release function to avoid type confusion, and store this information
in the register state so that an incorrect program can be rejected. This
is not a problem right now, hence it is left as an exercise for the
future patch introducing such a case in the kernel.

d583691c47 bpf: Introduce mem, size argument pair support for kfunc
BPF helpers can associate two adjacent arguments together to pass memory
of certain size, using ARG_PTR_TO_MEM and ARG_CONST_SIZE arguments.
Since we don't use bpf_func_proto for kfunc, we need to leverage BTF to
implement similar support.

The ARG_CONST_SIZE processing for helpers is refactored into a common
check_mem_size_reg helper that is shared with kfunc as well. kfunc
ptr_to_mem support follows logic similar to global functions, where
verification is done as if pointer is not null, even when it may be
null.

This leads to a simple to follow rule for writing kfunc: always check
the argument pointer for NULL, except when it is PTR_TO_CTX. Also, the
PTR_TO_CTX case is also only safe when the helper expecting pointer to
program ctx is not exposed to other programs where same struct is not
ctx type. In that case, the type check will fall through to other cases
and would permit passing other types of pointers, possibly NULL at
runtime.

Currently, we require the size argument to be suffixed with "__sz" in
the parameter name. This information is then recorded in kernel BTF and
verified during function argument checking. In the future we can use BTF
tagging instead, and modify the kernel function definitions. This will
be a purely kernel-side change.

This allows us to have some form of backwards compatibility for
structures that are passed in to the kernel function with their size,
and allow variable length structures to be passed in if they are
accompanied by a size parameter.

b202d84422 bpf: Remove check_kfunc_call callback and old kfunc BTF ID API
Completely remove the old code for check_kfunc_call to help it work
with modules, and also the callback itself.

The previous commit adds infrastructure to register all sets and put
them in vmlinux or module BTF, and concatenates all related sets
organized by the hook and the type. Once populated, these sets remain
immutable for the lifetime of the struct btf.

Also, since we don't need the 'owner' module anywhere when doing

dee872e124 bpf: Populate kfunc BTF ID sets in struct btf
This patch prepares the kernel to support putting all kinds of kfunc BTF
ID sets in the struct btf itself. The various kernel subsystems will
make register_btf_kfunc_id_set call in the initcalls (for built-in code
and modules).

The 'hook' is one of the many program types, e.g. XDP and TC/SCHED_CLS,
STRUCT_OPS, and 'types' are check (allowed or not), acquire, release,
and ret_null (with PTR_TO_BTF_ID_OR_NULL return type).

A maximum of BTF_KFUNC_SET_MAX_CNT (32) kfunc BTF IDs are permitted in a
set of certain hook and type for vmlinux sets, since they are allocated
on demand, and otherwise set as NULL. Module sets can only be registered
once per hook and type, hence they are directly assigned.

A new btf_kfunc_id_set_contains function is exposed for use in verifier,
this new method is faster than the existing list searching method, and
is also automatic. It also lets other code not care whether the set is
unallocated or not.

Note that module code can only do single register_btf_kfunc_id_set call
per hook. This is why sorting is only done for in-kernel vmlinux sets,
because there might be multiple sets for the same hook and type that
must be concatenated, hence sorting them is required to ensure bsearch
in btf_id_set_contains continues to work correctly.

Next commit will update the kernel users to make use of this
infrastructure.

Finally, add __maybe_unused annotation for BTF ID macros for the
!CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO_BTF case, so that they don't produce warnings during
build time.

The previous patch is also needed to provide synchronization against
initialization for module BTF's kfunc_set_tab introduced here, as
described below:

  The kfunc_set_tab pointer in struct btf is write-once (if we consider
  the registration phase (comprised of multiple register_btf_kfunc_id_set
  calls) as a single operation). In this sense, once it has been fully
  prepared, it isn't modified, only used for lookup (from the verifier
  context).

  For btf_vmlinux, it is initialized fully during the do_initcalls phase,
  which happens fairly early in the boot process, before any processes are
  present. This also eliminates the possibility of bpf_check being called
  at that point, thus relieving us of ensuring any synchronization between
  the registration and lookup function (btf_kfunc_id_set_contains).

  However, the case for module BTF is a bit tricky. The BTF is parsed,
  prepared, and published from the MODULE_STATE_COMING notifier callback.
  After this, the module initcalls are invoked, where our registration
  function will be called to populate the kfunc_set_tab for module BTF.

  At this point, BTF may be available to userspace while its corresponding
  module is still intializing. A BTF fd can then be passed to verifier
  using bpf syscall (e.g. for kfunc call insn).

  Hence, there is a race window where verifier may concurrently try to
  lookup the kfunc_set_tab. To prevent this race, we must ensure the
  operations are serialized, or waiting for the __init functions to
  complete.

  In the earlier registration API, this race was alleviated as verifier
  bpf_check_mod_kfunc_call didn't find the kfunc BTF ID until it was added
  by the registration function (called usually at the end of module __init
  function after all module resources have been initialized). If the
  verifier made the check_kfunc_call before kfunc BTF ID was added to the
  list, it would fail verification (saying call isn't allowed). The
  access to list was protected using a mutex.

  Now, it would still fail verification, but for a different reason
  (returning ENXIO due to the failed btf_try_get_module call in
  add_kfunc_call), because if the __init call is in progress the module
  will be in the middle of MODULE_STATE_COMING -> MODULE_STATE_LIVE
  transition, and the BTF_MODULE_LIVE flag for btf_module instance will
  not be set, so the btf_try_get_module call will fail.

18688de203 bpf: Fix UAF due to race between btf_try_get_module and load_module
While working on code to populate kfunc BTF ID sets for module BTF from
its initcall, I noticed that by the time the initcall is invoked, the
module BTF can already be seen by userspace (and the BPF verifier). The
existing btf_try_get_module calls try_module_get which only fails if
mod->state == MODULE_STATE_GOING, i.e. it can increment module reference
when module initcall is happening in parallel.

Currently, BTF parsing happens from MODULE_STATE_COMING notifier
callback. At this point, the module initcalls have not been invoked.
The notifier callback parses and prepares the module BTF, allocates an
ID, which publishes it to userspace, and then adds it to the btf_modules
list allowing the kernel to invoke btf_try_get_module for the BTF.

However, at this point, the module has not been fully initialized (i.e.
its initcalls have not finished). The code in module.c can still fail
and free the module, without caring for other users. However, nothing
stops btf_try_get_module from succeeding between the state transition
from MODULE_STATE_COMING to MODULE_STATE_LIVE.

This leads to a use-after-free issue when BPF program loads
successfully in the state transition, load_module's do_init_module call
fails and frees the module, and BPF program fd on close calls module_put
for the freed module. Future patch has test case to verify we don't
regress in this area in future.

There are multiple points after prepare_coming_module (in load_module)
where failure can occur and module loading can return error. We
illustrate and test for the race using the last point where it can
practically occur (in module __init function).

An illustration of the race:

CPU 0                           CPU 1
			  load_module
			    notifier_call(MODULE_STATE_COMING)
			      btf_parse_module
			      btf_alloc_id	// Published to userspace
			      list_add(&btf_mod->list, btf_modules)
			    mod->init(...)
...				^
bpf_check		        |
check_pseudo_btf_id             |
  btf_try_get_module            |
    returns true                |  ...
... | module __init in progress
return prog_fd                  |  ...
...                             V
			    if (ret < 0)
			      free_module(mod)
			    ...
close(prog_fd)
 ...
 bpf_prog_free_deferred
  module_put(used_btf.mod) // use-after-free

We fix this issue by setting a flag BTF_MODULE_F_LIVE, from the notifier
callback when MODULE_STATE_LIVE state is reached for the module, so that
we return NULL from btf_try_get_module for modules that are not fully
formed. Since try_module_get already checks that module is not in
MODULE_STATE_GOING state, and that is the only transition a live module
can make before being removed from btf_modules list, this is enough to
close the race and prevent the bug.

A later selftest patch crafts the race condition artifically to verify
that it has been fixed, and that verifier fails to load program (with
ENXIO).

Lastly, a couple of comments:

 1. Even if this race didn't exist, it seems more appropriate to only
    access resources (ksyms and kfuncs) of a fully formed module which
    has been initialized completely.

 2. This patch was born out of need for synchronization against module
    initcall for the next patch, so it is needed for correctness even
    without the aforementioned race condition. The BTF resources
    initialized by module initcall are set up once and then only looked
    up, so just waiting until the initcall has finished ensures correct
    behavior.

1e9d74660d bpf: Fix mount source show for bpffs
We noticed our tc ebpf tools can't start after we upgrade our in-house kernel
version from 4.19 to 5.10. That is because of the behaviour change in bpffs
caused by commit d2935de7e4 ("vfs: Convert bpf to use the new mount API").

In our tc ebpf tools, we do strict environment check. If the environment is
not matched, we won't allow to start the ebpf progs. One of the check is whether
bpffs is properly mounted. The mount information of bpffs in kernel-4.19 and
kernel-5.10 are as follows:

- kernel 4.19
$ mount -t bpf bpffs /sys/fs/bpf
$ mount -t bpf
bpffs on /sys/fs/bpf type bpf (rw,relatime)

- kernel 5.10
$ mount -t bpf bpffs /sys/fs/bpf
$ mount -t bpf
none on /sys/fs/bpf type bpf (rw,relatime)

The device name in kernel-5.10 is displayed as none instead of bpffs, then our
environment check fails. Currently we modify the tools to adopt to the kernel
behaviour change, but I think we'd better change the kernel code to keep the
behavior consistent.

After this change, the mount information will be displayed the same with the
behavior in kernel-4.19, for example:

$ mount -t bpf bpffs /sys/fs/bpf
$ mount -t bpf
bpffs on /sys/fs/bpf type bpf (rw,relatime)

a5bebc4f00 bpf: Fix verifier support for validation of async callbacks
Commit bfc6bb74e4 ("bpf: Implement verifier support for validation of async callbacks.")
added support for BPF_FUNC_timer_set_callback to
the __check_func_call() function. The test in __check_func_call() is
flaweed because it can mis-interpret a regular BPF-to-BPF pseudo-call
as a BPF_FUNC_timer_set_callback callback call.

Consider the conditional in the code:

	if (insn->code == (BPF_JMP | BPF_CALL) &&
	    insn->imm == BPF_FUNC_timer_set_callback) {

The BPF_FUNC_timer_set_callback has value 170. This means that if you
have a BPF program that contains a pseudo-call with an instruction delta
of 170, this conditional will be found to be true by the verifier, and
it will interpret the pseudo-call as a callback. This leads to a mess
with the verification of the program because it makes the wrong
assumptions about the nature of this call.

Solution: include an explicit check to ensure that insn->src_reg == 0.
This ensures that calls cannot be mis-interpreted as an async callback
call.

0fe4b381a5 bpf: Allow bpf_local_storage to be used by sleepable programs
Other maps like hashmaps are already available to sleepable programs.
Sleepable BPF programs run under trace RCU. Allow task, sk and inode
storage to be used from sleepable programs. This allows sleepable and
non-sleepable programs to provide shareable annotations on kernel
objects.

Sleepable programs run in trace RCU where as non-sleepable programs run
in a normal RCU critical section i.e.  __bpf_prog_enter{_sleepable}
and __bpf_prog_exit{_sleepable}) (rcu_read_lock or rcu_read_lock_trace).

In order to make the local storage maps accessible to both sleepable
and non-sleepable programs, one needs to call both
call_rcu_tasks_trace and call_rcu to wait for both trace and classical
RCU grace periods to expire before freeing memory.

Paul's work on call_rcu_tasks_trace allows us to have per CPU queueing
for call_rcu_tasks_trace. This behaviour can be achieved by setting
rcupdate.rcu_task_enqueue_lim=<num_cpus> boot parameter.

In light of these new performance changes and to keep the local storage
code simple, avoid adding a new flag for sleepable maps / local storage
to select the RCU synchronization (trace / classical).

Also, update the dereferencing of the pointers to use
rcu_derference_check (with either the trace or normal RCU locks held)
with a common bpf_rcu_lock_held helper method.

Kumar Kartikeya Dwivedi
3363bd0cfb bpf: Extend kfunc with PTR_TO_CTX, PTR_TO_MEM argument support
Allow passing PTR_TO_CTX, if the kfunc expects a matching struct type,
and punt to PTR_TO_MEM block if reg->type does not fall in one of
PTR_TO_BTF_ID or PTR_TO_SOCK* types. This will be used by future commits
to get access to XDP and TC PTR_TO_CTX, and pass various data (flags,
l4proto, netns_id, etc.) encoded in opts struct passed as pointer to
kfunc.

For PTR_TO_MEM support, arguments are currently limited to pointer to
scalar, or pointer to struct composed of scalars. This is done so that
unsafe scenarios (like passing PTR_TO_MEM where PTR_TO_BTF_ID of
in-kernel valid structure is expected, which may have pointers) are
avoided. Since the argument checking happens basd on argument register
type, it is not easy to ascertain what the expected type is. In the
future, support for PTR_TO_MEM for kfunc can be extended to serve other
usecases. The struct type whose pointer is passed in may have maximum
nesting depth of 4, all recursively composed of scalars or struct with
scalars.

Future commits will add negative tests that check whether these
restrictions imposed for kfunc arguments are duly rejected by BPF
verifier or not.

216e3cd2f2 bpf: Add MEM_RDONLY for helper args that are pointers to rdonly mem.
Some helper functions may modify its arguments, for example,
bpf_d_path, bpf_get_stack etc. Previously, their argument types
were marked as ARG_PTR_TO_MEM, which is compatible with read-only
mem types, such as PTR_TO_RDONLY_BUF. Therefore it's legitimate,
but technically incorrect, to modify a read-only memory by passing
it into one of such helper functions.

This patch tags the bpf_args compatible with immutable memory with
MEM_RDONLY flag. The arguments that don't have this flag will be
only compatible with mutable memory types, preventing the helper
from modifying a read-only memory. The bpf_args that have
MEM_RDONLY are compatible with both mutable memory and immutable
memory.

return PTR_OT_MEM for kernel objects of scalar type, which allows

the verifier will reject programs that write into RDONLY_MEM.

e572ff80f0 bpf: Make 32->64 bounds propagation slightly more robust
Make the bounds propagation in __reg_assign_32_into_64() slightly more
robust and readable by aligning it similarly as we did back in the
__reg_combine_64_into_32() counterpart. Meaning, only propagate or
pessimize them as a smin/smax pair.

3cf2b61eb0 bpf: Fix signed bounds propagation after mov32
For the case where both s32_{min,max}_value bounds are positive, the
__reg_assign_32_into_64() directly propagates them to their 64 bit
counterparts, otherwise it pessimises them into [0,u32_max] universe and
tries to refine them later on by learning through the tnum as per comment
in mentioned function. However, that does not always happen, for example,
in mov32 operation we call zext_32_to_64(dst_reg) which invokes the
__reg_assign_32_into_64() as is without subsequent bounds update as
elsewhere thus no refinement based on tnum takes place.

Thus, not calling into the __update_reg_bounds() / __reg_deduce_bounds() /
__reg_bound_offset() triplet as we do, for example, in case of ALU ops via
adjust_scalar_min_max_vals(), will lead to more pessimistic bounds when
dumping the full register state:

Before fix:

  0: (b4) w0 = -1
  1: R0_w=invP4294967295
     (id=0,imm=ffffffff,
      smin_value=4294967295,smax_value=4294967295,
      umin_value=4294967295,umax_value=4294967295,
      var_off=(0xffffffff; 0x0),
      s32_min_value=-1,s32_max_value=-1,
      u32_min_value=-1,u32_max_value=-1)

  1: (bc) w0 = w0
  2: R0_w=invP4294967295
     (id=0,imm=ffffffff,
      smin_value=0,smax_value=4294967295,
      umin_value=4294967295,umax_value=4294967295,
      var_off=(0xffffffff; 0x0),
      s32_min_value=-1,s32_max_value=-1,
      u32_min_value=-1,u32_max_value=-1)

Technically, the smin_value=0 and smax_value=4294967295 bounds are not
incorrect, but given the register is still a constant, they break assumptions
about const scalars that smin_value == smax_value and umin_value == umax_value.

After fix:

  0: (b4) w0 = -1
  1: R0_w=invP4294967295
     (id=0,imm=ffffffff,
      smin_value=4294967295,smax_value=4294967295,
      umin_value=4294967295,umax_value=4294967295,
      var_off=(0xffffffff; 0x0),
      s32_min_value=-1,s32_max_value=-1,
      u32_min_value=-1,u32_max_value=-1)

  1: (bc) w0 = w0
  2: R0_w=invP4294967295
     (id=0,imm=ffffffff,
      smin_value=4294967295,smax_value=4294967295,
      umin_value=4294967295,umax_value=4294967295,
      var_off=(0xffffffff; 0x0),
      s32_min_value=-1,s32_max_value=-1,
      u32_min_value=-1,u32_max_value=-1)

Without the smin_value == smax_value and umin_value == umax_value invariant
being intact for const scalars, it is possible to leak out kernel pointers
from unprivileged user space if the latter is enabled. For example, when such
registers are involved in pointer arithmtics, then adjust_ptr_min_max_vals()
will taint the destination register into an unknown scalar, and the latter
can be exported and stored e.g. into a BPF map value.

a82fe085f3 bpf: Fix kernel address leakage in atomic cmpxchg's r0 aux reg
The implementation of BPF_CMPXCHG on a high level has the following parameters:

  .-[old-val]                                          .-[new-val]
  BPF_R0 = cmpxchg{32,64}(DST_REG + insn->off, BPF_R0, SRC_REG)
                          `-[mem-loc]          `-[old-val]

Given a BPF insn can only have two registers (dst, src), the R0 is fixed and
used as an auxilliary register for input (old value) as well as output (returning
old value from memory location). While the verifier performs a number of safety
checks, it misses to reject unprivileged programs where R0 contains a pointer as
old value.

Through brute-forcing it takes about ~16sec on my machine to leak a kernel pointer
with BPF_CMPXCHG. The PoC is basically probing for kernel addresses by storing the
guessed address into the map slot as a scalar, and using the map value pointer as
R0 while SRC_REG has a canary value to detect a matching address.

Fix it by checking R0 for pointers, and reject if that's the case for unprivileged
programs.

7d3baf0afa bpf: Fix kernel address leakage in atomic fetch
The change in commit 37086bfdc7 ("bpf: Propagate stack bounds to registers
in atomics w/ BPF_FETCH") around check_mem_access() handling is buggy since
this would allow for unprivileged users to leak kernel pointers. For example,
an atomic fetch/and with -1 on a stack destination which holds a spilled
pointer will migrate the spilled register type into a scalar, which can then
be exported out of the program (since scalar != pointer) by dumping it into
a map value.

The original implementation of XADD was preventing this situation by using
a double call to check_mem_access() one with BPF_READ and a subsequent one
with BPF_WRITE, in both cases passing -1 as a placeholder value instead of
register as per XADD semantics since it didn't contain a value fetch. The
BPF_READ also included a check in check_stack_read_fixed_off() which rejects
the program if the stack slot is of __is_pointer_value() if dst_regno < 0.
The latter is to distinguish whether we're dealing with a regular stack spill/
fill or some arithmetical operation which is disallowed on non-scalars, see
also 6e7e63cbb0 ("bpf: Forbid XADD on spilled pointers for unprivileged
users") for more context on check_mem_access() and its handling of placeholder
value -1.

One minimally intrusive option to fix the leak is for the BPF_FETCH case to
initially check the BPF_READ case via check_mem_access() with -1 as register,
followed by the actual load case with non-negative load_reg to propagate
stack bounds to registers.

Get return value of the traced function:

The trampoline now stores number of arguments on ctx-8

return value argument's position.

Moving function ip address on the trampoline stack behind
the number of functions arguments, so it's now stored on

345e004d02 bpf: Fix incorrect state pruning for <8B spill/fill
Commit 354e8f1970 ("bpf: Support <8-byte scalar spill and refill")
introduced support in the verifier to track <8B spill/fills of scalars.
The backtracking logic for the precision bit was however skipping
spill/fills of less than 8B. That could cause state pruning to consider
two states equivalent when they shouldn't be.

As an example, consider the following bytecode snippet:

  0:  r7 = r1
  1:  call bpf_get_prandom_u32
  2:  r6 = 2
  3:  if r0 == 0 goto pc+1
  4:  r6 = 3
  ...
  8: [state pruning point]
  ...
  /* u32 spill/fill */
  10: *(u32 *)(r10 - 8) = r6
  11: r8 = *(u32 *)(r10 - 8)
  12: r0 = 0
  13: if r8 == 3 goto pc+1
  14: r0 = 1
  15: exit

The verifier first walks the path with R6=3. Given the support for <8B
spill/fills, at instruction 13, it knows the condition is true and skips
instruction 14. At that point, the backtracking logic kicks in but stops
at the fill instruction since it only propagates the precision bit for
8B spill/fill. When the verifier then walks the path with R6=2, it will
consider it safe at instruction 8 because R6 is not marked as needing
precision. Instruction 14 is thus never walked and is then incorrectly
removed as 'dead code'.

It's also possible to lead the verifier to accept e.g. an out-of-bound
memory access instead of causing an incorrect dead code elimination.

This regression was found via Cilium's bpf-next CI where it was causing
a conntrack map update to be silently skipped because the code had been
removed by the verifier.

This commit fixes it by enabling support for <8B spill/fills in the
bactracking logic. In case of a <8B spill/fill, the full 8B stack slot
will be marked as needing precision. Then, in __mark_chain_precision,
any tracked register spilled in a marked slot will itself be marked as
needing precision, regardless of the spill size. This logic makes two
assumptions: (1) only 8B-aligned spill/fill are tracked and (2) spilled
registers are only tracked if the spill and fill sizes are equal. Commit
ef979017b8 ("bpf: selftest: Add verifier tests for <8-byte scalar
spill and refill") covers the first assumption and the next commit in
this patchset covers the second.

2fa7d94afc bpf: Fix the off-by-two error in range markings
The first commit cited below attempts to fix the off-by-one error that
appeared in some comparisons with an open range. Due to this error,
arithmetically equivalent pieces of code could get different verdicts
from the verifier, for example (pseudocode):

  // 1. Passes the verifier:
  if (data + 8 > data_end)
      return early
  read *(u64 *)data, i.e. [data; data+7]

  // 2. Rejected by the verifier (should still pass):
  if (data + 7 >= data_end)
      return early
  read *(u64 *)data, i.e. [data; data+7]

The attempted fix, however, shifts the range by one in a wrong
direction, so the bug not only remains, but also such piece of code
starts failing in the verifier:

  // 3. Rejected by the verifier, but the check is stricter than in #1.
  if (data + 8 >= data_end)
      return early
  read *(u64 *)data, i.e. [data; data+7]

The change performed by that fix converted an off-by-one bug into
off-by-two. The second commit cited below added the BPF selftests
written to ensure than code chunks like #3 are rejected, however,
they should be accepted.

This commit fixes the off-by-two error by adjusting new_range in the
right direction and fixes the tests by changing the range into the
one that should actually fail.

d9847eb8be bpf: Make CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO_BTF depend upon CONFIG_BPF_SYSCALL
Vinicius Costa Gomes reported [0] that build fails when
CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO_BTF is enabled and CONFIG_BPF_SYSCALL is disabled.
This leads to btf.c not being compiled, and then no symbol being present
in vmlinux for the declarations in btf.h. Since BTF is not useful
without enabling BPF subsystem, disallow this combination.

However, theoretically disabling both now could still fail, as the
symbol for kfunc_btf_id_list variables is not available. This isn't a
problem as the compiler usually optimizes the whole register/unregister
call, but at lower optimization levels it can fail the build in linking
stage.

Fix that by adding dummy variables so that modules taking address of
them still work, but the whole thing is a noop.

1e89106da2 bpf: Add bpf_core_add_cands() and wire it into bpf_core_apply_relo_insn().
Given BPF program's BTF root type name perform the following steps:
. search in vmlinux candidate cache.
. if (present in cache and candidate list >= 1) return candidate list.
. do a linear search through kernel BTFs for possible candidates.
. regardless of number of candidates found populate vmlinux cache.
. if (candidate list >= 1) return candidate list.
. search in module candidate cache.
. if (present in cache) return candidate list (even if list is empty).
. do a linear search through BTFs of all kernel modules
  collecting candidates from all of them.
. regardless of number of candidates found populate module cache.
. return candidate list.
Then wire the result into bpf_core_apply_relo_insn().

When BPF program is trying to CO-RE relocate a type
that doesn't exist in either vmlinux BTF or in modules BTFs
these steps will perform 2 cache lookups when cache is hit.

Note the cache doesn't prevent the abuse by the program that might
have lots of relocations that cannot be resolved. Hence cond_resched().

CO-RE in the kernel requires CAP_BPF, since BTF loading requires it.

Add an ability to pass a set of 'struct bpf_core_relo' to prog_load command

Note the struct bpf_line_info and struct bpf_func_info have the same
layout when passed from LLVM to libbpf and from libbpf to the kernel

Then libbpf converts it to "insn index" to pass to the kernel.

has the trailing newline and adding a newline if not.

e6f2dd0f80 bpf: Add bpf_loop helper
This patch adds the kernel-side and API changes for a new helper
function, bpf_loop:

long bpf_loop(u32 nr_loops, void *callback_fn, void *callback_ctx,
u64 flags);

where long (*callback_fn)(u32 index, void *ctx);

bpf_loop invokes the "callback_fn" **nr_loops** times or until the
callback_fn returns 1. The callback_fn can only return 0 or 1, and
this is enforced by the verifier. The callback_fn index is zero-indexed.

A few things to please note:
~ The "u64 flags" parameter is currently unused but is included in
case a future use case for it arises.
~ In the kernel-side implementation of bpf_loop (kernel/bpf/bpf_iter.c),
bpf_callback_t is used as the callback function cast.
~ A program can have nested bpf_loop calls but the program must
still adhere to the verifier constraint of its stack depth (the stack depth
cannot exceed MAX_BPF_STACK))
~ Recursive callback_fns do not pass the verifier, due to the call stack
for these being too deep.
~ The next patch will include the tests and benchmark

ebf7f6f0a6 bpf: Change value of MAX_TAIL_CALL_CNT from 32 to 33
In the current code, the actual max tail call count is 33 which is greater
than MAX_TAIL_CALL_CNT (defined as 32). The actual limit is not consistent
with the meaning of MAX_TAIL_CALL_CNT and thus confusing at first glance.
We can see the historical evolution from commit 04fd61ab36 ("bpf: allow
bpf programs to tail-call other bpf programs") and commit f9dabe016b
("bpf: Undo off-by-one in interpreter tail call count limit"). In order
to avoid changing existing behavior, the actual limit is 33 now, this is
reasonable.

After commit 874be05f52 ("bpf, tests: Add tail call test suite"), we can
see there exists failed testcase.

On all archs when CONFIG_BPF_JIT_ALWAYS_ON is not set:
 # echo 0 > /proc/sys/net/core/bpf_jit_enable
 # modprobe test_bpf
 # dmesg | grep -w FAIL
 Tail call error path, max count reached jited:0 ret 34 != 33 FAIL

On some archs:
 # echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/core/bpf_jit_enable
 # modprobe test_bpf
 # dmesg | grep -w FAIL
 Tail call error path, max count reached jited:1 ret 34 != 33 FAIL

Although the above failed testcase has been fixed in commit 18935a72eb
("bpf/tests: Fix error in tail call limit tests"), it would still be good
to change the value of MAX_TAIL_CALL_CNT from 32 to 33 to make the code
more readable.

The 32-bit x86 JIT was using a limit of 32, just fix the wrong comments and
limit to 33 tail calls as the constant MAX_TAIL_CALL_CNT updated. For the
mips64 JIT, use "ori" instead of "addiu" as suggested by Johan Almbladh.
For the riscv JIT, use RV_REG_TCC directly to save one register move as
suggested by Björn Töpel. For the other implementations, no function changes,
it does not change the current limit 33, the new value of MAX_TAIL_CALL_CNT
can reflect the actual max tail call count, the related tail call testcases
in test_bpf module and selftests can work well for the interpreter and the
JIT.

Here are the test results on x86_64:

 # uname -m
 x86_64
 # echo 0 > /proc/sys/net/core/bpf_jit_enable
 # modprobe test_bpf test_suite=test_tail_calls
 # dmesg | tail -1

 # rmmod test_bpf

 # dmesg | tail -1

 # rmmod test_bpf

353050be4c bpf: Fix toctou on read-only map's constant scalar tracking
Commit a23740ec43 ("bpf: Track contents of read-only maps as scalars") is
checking whether maps are read-only both from BPF program side and user space
side, and then, given their content is constant, reading out their data via
map->ops->map_direct_value_addr() which is then subsequently used as known
scalar value for the register, that is, it is marked as __mark_reg_known()
with the read value at verification time. Before a23740ec43, the register
content was marked as an unknown scalar so the verifier could not make any
assumptions about the map content.

The current implementation however is prone to a TOCTOU race, meaning, the
value read as known scalar for the register is not guaranteed to be exactly
the same at a later point when the program is executed, and as such, the
prior made assumptions of the verifier with regards to the program will be
invalid which can cause issues such as OOB access, etc.

While the BPF_F_RDONLY_PROG map flag is always fixed and required to be
specified at map creation time, the map->frozen property is initially set to
false for the map given the map value needs to be populated, e.g. for global
data sections. Once complete, the loader "freezes" the map from user space
such that no subsequent updates/deletes are possible anymore. For the rest
of the lifetime of the map, this freeze one-time trigger cannot be undone
anymore after a successful BPF_MAP_FREEZE cmd return. Meaning, any new BPF_*
cmd calls which would update/delete map entries will be rejected with -EPERM
since map_get_sys_perms() removes the FMODE_CAN_WRITE permission. This also
means that pending update/delete map entries must still complete before this
guarantee is given. This corner case is not an issue for loaders since they
create and prepare such program private map in successive steps.

However, a malicious user is able to trigger this TOCTOU race in two different
ways: i) via userfaultfd, and ii) via batched updates. For i) userfaultfd is
used to expand the competition interval, so that map_update_elem() can modify
the contents of the map after map_freeze() and bpf_prog_load() were executed.
This works, because userfaultfd halts the parallel thread which triggered a
map_update_elem() at the time where we copy key/value from the user buffer and
this already passed the FMODE_CAN_WRITE capability test given at that time the
map was not "frozen". Then, the main thread performs the map_freeze() and
bpf_prog_load(), and once that had completed successfully, the other thread
is woken up to complete the pending map_update_elem() which then changes the
map content. For ii) the idea of the batched update is similar, meaning, when
there are a large number of updates to be processed, it can increase the
competition interval between the two. It is therefore possible in practice to
modify the contents of the map after executing map_freeze() and bpf_prog_load().

One way to fix both i) and ii) at the same time is to expand the use of the
map's map->writecnt. The latter was introduced in fc9702273e ("bpf: Add mmap()
support for BPF_MAP_TYPE_ARRAY") and further refined in 1f6cb19be2 ("bpf:
Prevent re-mmap()'ing BPF map as writable for initially r/o mapping") with
the rationale to make a writable mmap()'ing of a map mutually exclusive with
read-only freezing. The counter indicates writable mmap() mappings and then
prevents/fails the freeze operation. Its semantics can be expanded beyond
just mmap() by generally indicating ongoing write phases. This would essentially
span any parallel regular and batched flavor of update/delete operation and
then also have map_freeze() fail with -EBUSY. For the check_mem_access() in
the verifier we expand upon the bpf_map_is_rdonly() check ensuring that all
last pending writes have completed via bpf_map_write_active() test. Once the
map->frozen is set and bpf_map_write_active() indicates a map->writecnt of 0
only then we are really guaranteed to use the map's data as known constants.
For map->frozen being set and pending writes in process of still being completed
we fall back to marking that register as unknown scalar so we don't end up
making assumptions about it. With this, both TOCTOU reproducers from i) and
ii) are fixed.

Note that the map->writecnt has been converted into a atomic64 in the fix in
order to avoid a double freeze_mutex mutex_{un,}lock() pair when updating
map->writecnt in the various map update/delete BPF_* cmd flavors. Spanning
the freeze_mutex over entire map update/delete operations in syscall side
would not be possible due to then causing everything to be serialized.
Similarly, something like synchronize_rcu() after setting map->frozen to wait
for update/deletes to complete is not possible either since it would also
have to span the user copy which can sleep. On the libbpf side, this won't
break d66562fba1 ("libbpf: Add BPF object skeleton support") as the
anonymous mmap()-ed "map initialization image" is remapped as a BPF map-backed
mmap()-ed memory where for .rodata it's non-writable.

8c42d2fa4e bpf: Support BTF_KIND_TYPE_TAG for btf_type_tag attributes
LLVM patches ([1] for clang, [2] and [3] for BPF backend)
added support for btf_type_tag attributes. This patch
added support for the kernel.

The main motivation for btf_type_tag is to bring kernel
annotations __user, __rcu etc. to btf. With such information
available in btf, bpf verifier can detect mis-usages
and reject the program. For example, for __user tagged pointer,
developers can then use proper helper like bpf_probe_read_user()
etc. to read the data.

BTF_KIND_TYPE_TAG may also useful for other tracing
facility where instead of to require user to specify
kernel/user address type, the kernel can detect it
by itself with btf.

7c7e3d31e7 bpf: Introduce helper bpf_find_vma
In some profiler use cases, it is necessary to map an address to the
backing file, e.g., a shared library. bpf_find_vma helper provides a
flexible way to achieve this. bpf_find_vma maps an address of a task to
the vma (vm_area_struct) for this address, and feed the vma to an callback
BPF function. The callback function is necessary here, as we need to
ensure mmap_sem is unlocked.

It is necessary to lock mmap_sem for find_vma. To lock and unlock mmap_sem
safely when irqs are disable, we use the same mechanism as stackmap with
build_id. Specifically, when irqs are disabled, the unlocked is postponed
in an irq_work. Refactor stackmap.c so that the irq_work is shared among
bpf_find_vma and stackmap helpers.

3990ed4c42 bpf: Stop caching subprog index in the bpf_pseudo_func insn
This patch is to fix an out-of-bound access issue when jit-ing the
bpf_pseudo_func insn (i.e. ld_imm64 with src_reg == BPF_PSEUDO_FUNC)

In jit_subprog(), it currently reuses the subprog index cached in
insn[1].imm. This subprog index is an index into a few array related
to subprogs. For example, in jit_subprog(), it is an index to the newly
allocated 'struct bpf_prog **func' array.

The subprog index was cached in insn[1].imm after add_subprog(). However,
this could become outdated (and too big in this case) if some subprogs
are completely removed during dead code elimination (in
adjust_subprog_starts_after_remove). The cached index in insn[1].imm
is not updated accordingly and causing out-of-bound issue in the later
jit_subprog().

Unlike bpf_pseudo_'func' insn, the current bpf_pseudo_'call' insn
is handling the DCE properly by calling find_subprog(insn->imm) to
figure out the index instead of caching the subprog index.
The existing bpf_adj_branches() will adjust the insn->imm
whenever insn is added or removed.

Instead of having two ways handling subprog index,
this patch is to make bpf_pseudo_func works more like
bpf_pseudo_call.

First change is to stop caching the subprog index result
in insn[1].imm after add_subprog(). The verification
process will use find_subprog(insn->imm) to figure
out the subprog index.

Second change is in bpf_adj_branches() and have it to
adjust the insn->imm for the bpf_pseudo_func insn also
whenever insn is added or removed.

Third change is in jit_subprog(). Like the bpf_pseudo_call handling,
bpf_pseudo_func temporarily stores the find_subprog() result
in insn->off. It is fine because the prog's insn has been finalized
at this point. insn->off will be reset back to 0 later to avoid
confusing the userspace prog dump tool.

f30d4968e9 bpf: Do not reject when the stack read size is different from the tracked scalar size
Below is a simplified case from a report in bcc [0]:

  r4 = 20
  *(u32 *)(r10 -4) = r4
  *(u32 *)(r10 -8) = r4  /* r4 state is tracked */
  r4 = *(u64 *)(r10 -8)  /* Read more than the tracked 32bit scalar.
			  * verifier rejects as 'corrupted spill memory'.
			  */

After commit 354e8f1970 ("bpf: Support <8-byte scalar spill and refill"),
the 8-byte aligned 32bit spill is also tracked by the verifier and the
register state is stored.

However, if 8 bytes are read from the stack instead of the tracked 4 byte
scalar, then verifier currently rejects the program as "corrupted spill
memory". This patch fixes this case by allowing it to read but marks the
register as unknown.

Also note that, if the prog is trying to corrupt/leak an earlier spilled
pointer by spilling another <8 bytes register on top, this has already
been rejected in the check_stack_write_fixed_off().

388e2c0b97 bpf: Fix propagation of signed bounds from 64-bit min/max into 32-bit.
Similar to unsigned bounds propagation fix signed bounds.
The 'Fixes' tag is a hint. There is no security bug here.
The verifier was too conservative.

b9979db834 bpf: Fix propagation of bounds from 64-bit min/max into 32-bit and var_off.
Before this fix:
166: (b5) if r2 <= 0x1 goto pc+22
from 166 to 189: R2=invP(id=1,umax_value=1,var_off=(0x0; 0xffffffff))

After this fix:
166: (b5) if r2 <= 0x1 goto pc+22
from 166 to 189: R2=invP(id=1,umax_value=1,var_off=(0x0; 0x1))

While processing BPF_JLE the reg_set_min_max() would set true_reg->umax_value = 1
and call __reg_combine_64_into_32(true_reg).

Without the fix it would not pass the condition:
if (__reg64_bound_u32(reg->umin_value) && __reg64_bound_u32(reg->umax_value))

since umin_value == 0 at this point.
Before commit 10bf4e8316 the umin was incorrectly ingored.
The commit 10bf4e8316 fixed the correctness issue, but pessimized
propagation of 64-bit min max into 32-bit min max and corresponding var_off.

6fdc348006 bpf: Bloom filter map naming fixups
This patch has two changes in the kernel bloom filter map
implementation:

1) Change the names of map-ops functions to include the
"bloom_map" prefix.

As Martin pointed out on a previous patchset, having generic
map-ops names may be confusing in tracing and in perf-report.

2) Drop the "& 0xF" when getting nr_hash_funcs, since we
already ascertain that no other bits in map_extra beyond the
first 4 bits can be set.

c196906d50 bpf: Add dummy BPF STRUCT_OPS for test purpose
Currently the test of BPF STRUCT_OPS depends on the specific bpf
implementation of tcp_congestion_ops, but it can not cover all
basic functionalities (e.g, return value handling), so introduce
a dummy BPF STRUCT_OPS for test purpose.

Loading a bpf_dummy_ops implementation from userspace is prohibited,
and its only purpose is to run BPF_PROG_TYPE_STRUCT_OPS program
through bpf(BPF_PROG_TEST_RUN). Now programs for test_1() & test_2()
are supported. The following three cases are exercised in
bpf_dummy_struct_ops_test_run():

(1) test and check the value returned from state arg in test_1(state)
The content of state is copied from userspace pointer and copied back
after calling test_1(state). The user pointer is saved in an u64 array
and the array address is passed through ctx_in.

(2) test and check the return value of test_1(NULL)
Just simulate the case in which an invalid input argument is passed in.

(3) test multiple arguments passing in test_2(state, ...)
5 arguments are passed through ctx_in in form of u64 array. The first
element of array is userspace pointer of state and others 4 arguments
follow.

31a645aea4 bpf: Factor out a helper to prepare trampoline for struct_ops prog
Factor out a helper bpf_struct_ops_prepare_trampoline() to prepare
trampoline for BPF_PROG_TYPE_STRUCT_OPS prog. It will be used by
.test_run callback in following patch.

588e5d8766 cgroup: bpf: Move wrapper for __cgroup_bpf_*() to kernel/bpf/cgroup.c
In commit 324bda9e6c5a("bpf: multi program support for cgroup+bpf")
cgroup_bpf_*() called from kernel/bpf/syscall.c, but now they are only
used in kernel/bpf/cgroup.c, so move these function to
kernel/bpf/cgroup.c, like cgroup_bpf_replace().
