KVM/arm64 has forever used a 40bit default IPA space, partially
due to its 32bit heritage (where the only choice is 40bit).
However, there are implementations in the wild that have a *cough*
much smaller *cough* IPA space, which leads to a misprogramming of
VTCR_EL2, and a guest that is stuck on its first memory access
if userspace dares to ask for the default IPA setting (which most
VMMs do).
Instead, blundly reject the creation of such VM, as we can't
satisfy the requirements from userspace (with a one-off warning).
Also clarify the boot warning, and document that the VM creation
will fail when an unsupported IPA size is provided.
Although this is an ABI change, it doesn't really change much
for userspace:
- the guest couldn't run before this change, but no error was
returned. At least userspace knows what is happening.
- a memory slot that was accepted because it did fit the default
IPA space now doesn't even get a chance to be registered.
The other thing that is left doing is to convince userspace to
actually use the IPA space setting instead of relying on the
antiquated default.

Recently there was a fairly long thread about recoreable hardware page
faults, how they can deadlock, and what to do about that.
While the discussion is still fresh I figured good time to try and
document the conclusions a bit. This documentation section explains
what's the potential problem, and the remedies we've discussed,

USB devices cannot perform DMA and hence have no dma_mask set in their
device structure. Therefore importing dmabuf into a USB-based driver
fails, which breaks joining and mirroring of display in X11.
For USB devices, pick the associated USB controller as attachment device.
This allows the DRM import helpers to perform the DMA setup. If the DMA
controller does not support DMA transfers, we're out of luck and cannot
import. Our current USB-based DRM drivers don't use DMA, so the actual
DMA device is not important.
Tested by joining/mirroring displays of udl and radeon under Gnome/X11.

This is how Xen guests do steal time accounting. The hypervisor records
the amount of time spent in each of running/runnable/blocked/offline
states.
In the Xen accounting, a vCPU is still in state RUNSTATE_running while
in Xen for a hypercall or I/O trap, etc. Only if Xen explicitly schedules
does the state become RUNSTATE_blocked. In KVM this means that even when
the vCPU exits the kvm_run loop, the state remains RUNSTATE_running.
The VMM can explicitly set the vCPU to RUNSTATE_blocked by using the
KVM_XEN_VCPU_ATTR_TYPE_RUNSTATE_CURRENT attribute, and can also use
KVM_XEN_VCPU_ATTR_TYPE_RUNSTATE_ADJUST to retrospectively add a given
amount of time to the blocked state and subtract it from the running
state.
The state_entry_time corresponds to get_kvmclock_ns() at the time the
vCPU entered the current state, and the total times of all four states
should always add up to state_entry_time.

I have a handful of new RISC-V related patches for this merge window:
* A check to ensure drivers are properly using uaccess. This isn't
manifesting with any of the drivers I'm currently using, but may catch
errors in new drivers.
* Some preliminary support for the FU740, along with the HiFive
Unleashed it will appear on.
* NUMA support for RISC-V, which involves making the arm64 code generic.
* Support for kasan on the vmalloc region.
* A handful of new drivers for the Kendryte K210, along with the DT
plumbing required to boot on a handful of K210-based boards.
* Support for allocating ASIDs.
* Preliminary support for kernels larger than 128MiB.
* Various other improvements to our KASAN support, including the
utilization of huge pages when allocating the KASAN regions.
We may have already found a bug with the KASAN_VMALLOC code, but it's
passing my tests. There's a fix in the works, but that will probably
miss the merge window.

Patch series "Fix some seq_file users that were recently broken".
A recent change to seq_file broke some users which were using seq_file
in a non-"standard" way ... though the "standard" isn't documented, so
they can be excused. The result is a possible leak - of memory in one
case, of references to a 'transport' in the other.
These three patches:
1/ document and explain the problem
2/ fix the problem user in x86
3/ fix the problem user in net/sctp
This patch (of 3):
Users of seq_file will sometimes find it convenient to take a resource,
such as a lock or memory allocation, in the ->start or ->next operations.
These are per-entry resources, distinct from per-session resources which
are taken in ->start and released in ->stop.
The preferred management of these is release the resource on the
subsequent call to ->next or ->stop.
However prior to Commit 1f4aace60b ("fs/seq_file.c: simplify seq_file
iteration code and interface") it happened that ->show would always be
called after ->start or ->next, and a few users chose to release the
resource in ->show.
This is no longer reliable. Since the mentioned commit, ->next will
always come after a successful ->show (to ensure m->index is updated
correctly), so the original ordering cannot be maintained.
This patch updates the documentation to clearly state the required
behaviour. Other patches will fix the few problematic users.

Add a kernel parameter stack_depot_disable to disable stack depot. So
that stack hash table doesn't consume any memory when stack depot is
disabled.
The use case is CONFIG_PAGE_OWNER without page_owner=on. Without this
patch, stackdepot will consume the memory for the hashtable. By default,
it's 8M which is never trivial.
With this option, in CONFIG_PAGE_OWNER configured system, page_owner=off,
stack_depot_disable in kernel command line, we could save the wasted
memory for the hashtable.

Hwardware tag-based KASAN only reports the first found bug. After that MTE
tag checking gets disabled. Clarify this in comments and documentation.
