There is one place in the MPIC driver that assumes that the cores are numbered
from 0 to n-1. However, this is not true if the CPUs are not numbered
sequentially. This can happen on a eight-core SOC where cores two and three
are removed in the device tree. So instead of blindly looping, we iterate
over the discovered CPUs and use the SMP ID as the index.
This means that we no longer ask the MPIC how many CPUs there are, so
we also delete mpic->num_cpus.
We also catch if the number of CPUs in the SOC exceeds the number that the
MPIC supports. This should never happen, of course, but it's good to be
sure.

This lifts the restriction that book3s_hv guests can only run one
hardware thread per core, and allows them to use up to 4 threads
per core on POWER7. The host still has to run single-threaded.
This capability is advertised to qemu through a new KVM_CAP_PPC_SMT
capability. The return value of the ioctl querying this capability
is the number of vcpus per virtual CPU core (vcore), currently 4.
To use this, the host kernel should be booted with all threads
active, and then all the secondary threads should be offlined.
This will put the secondary threads into nap mode. KVM will then
wake them from nap mode and use them for running guest code (while
they are still offline). To wake the secondary threads, we send
them an IPI using a new xics_wake_cpu() function, implemented in
arch/powerpc/sysdev/xics/icp-native.c. In other words, at this stage
we assume that the platform has a XICS interrupt controller and
we are using icp-native.c to drive it. Since the woken thread will
need to acknowledge and clear the IPI, we also export the base
physical address of the XICS registers using kvmppc_set_xics_phys()
for use in the low-level KVM book3s code.
When a vcpu is created, it is assigned to a virtual CPU core.
The vcore number is obtained by dividing the vcpu number by the
number of threads per core in the host. This number is exported
to userspace via the KVM_CAP_PPC_SMT capability. If qemu wishes
to run the guest in single-threaded mode, it should make all vcpu
numbers be multiples of the number of threads per core.
We distinguish three states of a vcpu: runnable (i.e., ready to execute
the guest), blocked (that is, idle), and busy in host. We currently
implement a policy that the vcore can run only when all its threads
are runnable or blocked. This way, if a vcpu needs to execute elsewhere
in the kernel or in qemu, it can do so without being starved of CPU
by the other vcpus.
When a vcore starts to run, it executes in the context of one of the
vcpu threads. The other vcpu threads all go to sleep and stay asleep
until something happens requiring the vcpu thread to return to qemu,
or to wake up to run the vcore (this can happen when another vcpu
thread goes from busy in host state to blocked).
It can happen that a vcpu goes from blocked to runnable state (e.g.
because of an interrupt), and the vcore it belongs to is already
running. In that case it can start to run immediately as long as
the none of the vcpus in the vcore have started to exit the guest.
We send the next free thread in the vcore an IPI to get it to start
to execute the guest. It synchronizes with the other threads via
the vcore->entry_exit_count field to make sure that it doesn't go
into the guest if the other vcpus are exiting by the time that it
is ready to actually enter the guest.
Note that there is no fixed relationship between the hardware thread
number and the vcpu number. Hardware threads are assigned to vcpus
as they become runnable, so we will always use the lower-numbered
hardware threads in preference to higher-numbered threads if not all
the vcpus in the vcore are runnable, regardless of which vcpus are
runnable.

The Freescale ePAPR reference hypervisor provides interrupt controller
services via a hypercall interface, instead of emulating the MPIC
controller. This is called the VMPIC.
The ePAPR "virtual interrupt controller" provides interrupt controller
services for external interrupts. External interrupts received by a
partition can come from two sources:
- Hardware interrupts - hardware interrupts come from external
interrupt lines or on-chip I/O devices.
- Virtual interrupts - virtual interrupts are generated by the hypervisor
as part of some hypervisor service or hypervisor-created virtual device.
Both types of interrupts are processed using the same programming model and
same set of hypercalls.

Consolidate the mux and demux of ipi messages into smp.c and call
a new smp_ops callback to actually trigger the ipi.
The powerpc architecture code is optimised for having 4 distinct
ipi triggers, which are mapped to 4 distinct messages (ipi many, ipi
single, scheduler ipi, and enter debugger). However, several interrupt
controllers only provide a single software triggered interrupt that
can be delivered to each cpu. To resolve this limitation, each smp_ops
implementation created a per-cpu variable that is manipulated with atomic
bitops. Since these lines will be contended they are optimialy marked as
shared_aligned and take a full cache line for each cpu. Distro kernels
may have 2 or 3 of these in their config, each taking per-cpu space
even though at most one will be in use.
This consolidation removes smp_message_recv and replaces the single call
actions cases with direct calls from the common message recognition loop.
The complicated debugger ipi case with its muxed crash handling code is
moved to debug_ipi_action which is now called from the demux code (instead
of the multi-message action calling smp_message_recv).
I put a call to reschedule_action to increase the likelyhood of correctly
merging the anticipated scheduler_ipi() hook coming from the scheduler
tree; that single required call can be inlined later.
The actual message decode is a copy of the old pseries xics code with its
memory barriers and cache line spacing, augmented with a per-cpu unsigned
long based on the book-e doorbell code. The optional data is set via a
callback from the implementation and is passed to the new cause-ipi hook
along with the logical cpu number. While currently only the doorbell
implemntation uses this data it should be almost zero cost to retrieve and
pass it -- it adds a single register load for the argument from the same
cache line to which we just completed a store and the register is dead
on return from the call. I extended the data element from unsigned int
to unsigned long in case some other code wanted to associate a pointer.
The doorbell check_self is replaced by a call to smp_muxed_ipi_resend,
conditioned on the CPU_DBELL feature. The ifdef guard could be relaxed
to CONFIG_SMP but I left it with BOOKE for now.
Also, the doorbell interrupt vector for book-e was not calling irq_enter
and irq_exit, which throws off cpu accounting and causes code to not
realize it is running in interrupt context. Add the missing calls.

Commit b826291c, "drivercore/dt: add a match table pointer to struct
device" added an of_match pointer to struct device to cache the
of_match_table entry discovered at driver match time. This was unsafe
because matching is not an atomic operation with probing a driver. If
two or more drivers are attempted to be matched to a driver at the
same time, then the cached matching entry pointer could get
overwritten.
This patch reverts the of_match cache pointer and reworks all users to
call of_match_device() directly instead.

As well as searching for nodes with type = "nvram", search for nodes
that have compatible = "nvram". This can't be converted into a single
call to of_find_compatible_node() with a non-NULL type, because that
searches for a node that has _both_ type & compatible = "nvram".

SCOM is a side-band configuration bus implemented on some processors.
This code provides a way for code to map and operate on devices via
SCOM, while the details of how that is implemented is left up to a
SCOM "controller" in the platform code.

This is a significant rework of the XICS driver, too significant to
conveniently break it up into a series of smaller patches to be honest.
The driver is moved to a more generic location to allow new platforms
to use it, and is broken up into separate ICP and ICS "backends". For
now we have the native and "hypervisor" ICP backends and one common
RTAS ICS backend.
The driver supports one ICP backend instanciation, and many ICS ones,
in order to accomodate future platforms with multiple possibly different
interrupt "sources" mechanisms.

This property, defined in the Open PIC binding, tells the kernel not to use
the reset bit in the global configuration register. Additionally, its
presence mandates that only sources which are actually used (i.e. appear in
the device tree) should have their VECPRI bits initialized.
Although, "pic-no-reset" can be used for the same use cases that
"protected-sources" is covering, the "protected-sources" implementation was
left completely intact. This is a more pragmatic approach as there are
already several existing systems which use protected sources. If
"pic-no-reset" *and* "protected-sources" are both used, however, then
"pic-no-reset" takes precedence in terms of the init behavior and the
sanity checks done by protected sources will still take place.

In fsl_rio_dbell_handler() the code currently simply acknowledges the QFI
queue full interrupt, but does nothing to resolve the queue full
condition. Instead, it jumps to the end of the isr. When a queue full
condition occurs, the isr is then re-entered immediately and continually,
forever.
The fix is to just fall through and read out current doorbell entries.

Detects RIO link to the already enumerated device and properly sets links
between device objects. Changes to the enumeration/discovery logic:
1. Use Master Enable bit to signal end of the enumeration - agents may
start their discovery process as soon as they see this bit set
(Component Tag register was used before for this purpose).
2. Enumerator sets Component Tag (!= 0) immediately during device
setup. This allows to identify the device if the redundant route
exists in a RIO system.

The GPIO controller of MPC512x is slightly different from
8xxx GPIO controllers. The register interface is the same
except the external interrupt control register. The MPC512x
GPIO controller differentiates between four interrupt event
types and therefore provides two interrupt control registers,
GPICR1 and GPICR2. GPIO[0:15] interrupt event types are
configured in GPICR1 register, GPIO[16:31] - in GPICR2 register.
This patch adds MPC512x speciffic set_type() callback and
updates config file and comments. Additionally the gpio chip
registration function is changed to use for_each_matching_node()
preventing multiple registration if a node claimes compatibility
with another gpio controller type.

To prevent this we reserve configured DIU frame buffer

the whole boot process. On first open from user space
DIU frame buffer driver releases the reserved frame
buffer area and continues to operate as usual.

of_platform_bus was being used in the same manner as the platform_bus.
The only difference being that of_platform_bus devices are generated
from data in the device tree, and platform_bus devices are usually
statically allocated in platform code. Having them separate causes
the problem of device drivers having to be registered twice if it
was possible for the same device to appear on either bus.
This patch removes of_platform_bus_type and registers all of_platform
bus devices and drivers on the platform bus instead. A previous patch
made the of_device structure an alias for the platform_device structure,
and a shim is used to adapt of_platform_drivers to the platform bus.
After all of of_platform_bus drivers are converted to be normal platform
drivers, the shim code can be removed.

Currently the kernel uses the struct device_node.data pointer to resolve
a struct gpio_chip pointer from a device tree node. However, the .data
member doesn't provide any type checking and there aren't any rules
enforced on what it should be used for. There's no guarantee that the
data stored in it actually points to an gpio_chip pointer.
Instead of relying on the .data pointer, this patch modifies the code
to add a lookup function which scans through the registered gpio_chips
and returns the gpio_chip that has a pointer to the specified
device_node.

The OF gpio infrastructure is great for describing GPIO connections within
the device tree. However, using a GPIO binding still requires changes to
the gpio controller just to add an of_gpio structure. In most cases, the
gpio controller doesn't actually need any special support and the simple
OF gpio mapping function is more than sufficient. Additional, the current
scheme of using of_gpio_chip requires a convoluted scheme to maintain
1:1 mappings between of_gpio_chip and gpio_chip instances.
If the struct of_gpio_chip data members were moved into struct gpio_chip,
then it would simplify the processing of OF gpio bindings, and it would
make it trivial to use device tree OF connections on existing gpiolib
controller drivers.
This patch eliminates the of_gpio_chip structure and moves the relevant
fields into struct gpio_chip (conditional on CONFIG_OF_GPIO). This move
simplifies the existing code and prepares for adding automatic device tree
support to existing drivers.

percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being
included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which
in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files
universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies.
percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for
this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those
headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion
needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is
used as the basis of conversion.
http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py
The script does the followings.
* Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that
only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used,
gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h.
* When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include
blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms
to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains
core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered -
alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there
doesn't seem to be any matching order.
* If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly
because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out
an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the
file.
The conversion was done in the following steps.
1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly
over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h
and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400
files.
2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion,
some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or
embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added
inclusions to around 150 files.
3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits
from #2 to make sure no file was left behind.
4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed.
e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab
APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually.
5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically
editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h
files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h
inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually
wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each
slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as
necessary.
6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h.
7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures
were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my
distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few
more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things
build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq).
* x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config.
* powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig
* sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig
* ia64 SMP allmodconfig
* s390 SMP allmodconfig
* alpha SMP allmodconfig
* um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig
8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as
a separate patch and serve as bisection point.
Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step
6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch.
If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch
headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of
the specific arch.

It appears that we wrongly calculate dev_base for type1 config cycles.
The thing is: we shouldn't subtract hose->first_busno because PCI core
sets PCI primary, secondary and subordinate bus numbers, and PCIe
controller actually takes the registers into account. So we should use
just bus->number.
Also, according to MPC8315 reference manual, primary bus number should
always remain 0. We have PPC_INDIRECT_TYPE_SURPRESS_PRIMARY_BUS quirk
in indirect_pci.c, but since 83xx is somewhat special, it doesn't use
indirect_pci.c routines, so we have to implement the quirk specifically
for 83xx PCIe controllers.

in case the interrupt controller was used in an earlier life then it is
possible it is that some of its sources were used and are still unmask.
If the (unmasked) device is active and is creating interrupts (or one

The workaround enabled by CONFIG_MPIC_BROKEN_REGREAD does not work
on non-broken MPICs. The symptom is no interrupts being received.
The fix is twofold. Firstly the code was broken for multiple isus,
we need to index into the shadow array with the src_no, not the idx.
Secondly, we always do the read, but only use the VECPRI_MASK and
VECPRI_ACTIVITY bits from the hardware, the rest of "val" comes
from the shadow.

Commit 31207dab7d
"Fix incorrect allocation of interrupt rev-map"
introduced a regression crashing on boot on machines using
a "DCR" based MPIC, such as the Cell blades.
The reason is that the irq host data structure is initialized
much later as a result of that patch, causing our calls to
mpic_map() do be done before we have a host setup.
Unfortunately, this breaks _mpic_map_dcr() which uses the
mpic->irqhost to get to the device node.
This fixes it by, instead, passing the device node explicitely
to mpic_map().

warnings in the arch/powerpc code. It needs to be configurable so that
if a warning is introduced, people can easily work around it while it's
being fixed.
The option is a negative, ie. don't enable -Werror, so that it will be
turned on for allyes and allmodconfig builds.
The default is n, in the hope that developers will build with -Werror,
that will probably lead to some build breaks, I am prepared to be flamed.
It's not enabled for math-emu, which is a steaming pile of warnings.

Until now we have had a 1:1 mapping between storage device physical
block size and the logical block sized used when addressing the device.
With SATA 4KB drives coming out that will no longer be the case. The
sector size will be 4KB but the logical block size will remain
512-bytes. Hence we need to distinguish between the physical block size
and the logical ditto.
This patch renames hardsect_size to logical_block_size.

We will be using these on fsl 32b to indicate the start and size

is needed to determine if an address requires bounce buffering. For

Before when we were setting up the irq host map for mpic we passed in
just isu_size for the size of the linear map. However, for a number of
mpic implementations we have no isu (thus pass in 0) and will end up
with a no linear map (size = 0). This causes us to always call
irq_find_mapping() from mpic_get_irq().
By moving the allocation of the host map to after we've determined the
number of sources we can actually benefit from having a linear map for
the non-isu users that covers all the interrupt sources.

This patch tweaks the way some PTE bit combinations are defined, in such a
way that the 32 and 64-bit variant become almost identical and that will
make it easier to bring in a new common pte-* file for the new variant
of the Book3-E support.
The combination of bits defining access to kernel pages are now clearly
separated from the combination used by userspace and the core VM. The
resulting generated code should remain identical unless I made a mistake.
Note: While at it, I removed a non-sensical statement related to CONFIG_KGDB
in ppc_mmu_32.c which could cause kernel mappings to be user accessible when
that option is enabled. Probably something that bitrot.

The PCI 2.x cells used on some 44x SoCs only let us configure the decode
for the low 32-bit of the incoming PLB addresses. The top 4 bits (this
is a 36-bit bus) are hard wired to different values depending on the
specific SoC in use. Our code used to work "by accident" until I added
support for the ISA memory holes and while at it added more validity
checking of the addresses.
This patch should bring it back to working condition. It still relies
on the device-tree being correct but that's somewhat a pre-requisite

field for "non-prefetchable memory behind bridge", which has a 32 bit
address, and one field for "prefetchable memory behind bridge", which may
have a 64 bit address. These are PCI bus addresses, not CPU physical
addresses.
So really you're only allowed one memory range of each type. And if you
want the range at a PCI address above 32 bits you must make it
prefetchable.

The code that sets up the outbound ATMU windows, which is used to map CPU
physical addresses into PCI bus addresses where BARs will be mapped, didn't
work so well.
For one, it leaked the ioremap() of the ATMU registers. Another small bug
was the high 20 bits of the PCI bus address were left as zero. It's legal
for prefetchable memory regions to be above 32 bits, so the high 20 bits
might not be zero.
Mainly, it couldn't handle ranges that were not a power of two in size or
were not naturally aligned. The ATMU windows have these requirements (size
& alignment), but the code didn't bother to check if the ranges it was
programming met them. If they didn't, the windows would silently be
programmed incorrectly.
This new code can handle ranges which are not power of two sized nor
naturally aligned. It simply splits the ranges into multiple valid ATMU
windows. As there are only four windows, pooly aligned or sized ranges
(which didn't even work before) may run out of windows. In this case an
error is printed and an effort is made to disable the unmapped resources.
An improvement that could be made would be to make use of the default
outbound window. Iff hose->pci_mem_offset is zero, then it's possible that
some or all of the ranges might not need an outbound window and could just
use the default window.
The default ATMU window can support a pci_mem_offset less than zero too,
but pci_mem_offset is unsigned. One could say the abilities allowed a
powerpc pci_controller is neither subset nor a superset of the abilities of
a Freescale PCIe controller. Thankfully, the most useful bits are in the
intersection of the two abilities.

controller provides just a 'data' register. Such controllers may be
found in various BCSRs (Board's FPGAs used to control board's

So far we support only 1-byte GPIO banks. Support for other widths may

With this API we're able to set a QE pin to the GPIO mode or a dedicated
peripheral function.
The API relies on the fact that QE gpio controllers are registered. If
they aren't, the API won't work (gracefully though).
There is one caveat though: if anybody occupied the node->data before us,
or overwrote it, then bad things will happen. Luckily this is all in the
platform code that we fully control, so this should never happen.
I could implement more checks (for example we could create a list of
successfully registered QE controllers, and compare the node->data in the
qe_pin_request()), but this is unneeded if nobody is going to do silly
things behind our back.

The buffer descriptors for the ATA BestComm task are larger than the
current definition for bcom_bd. This causes problems because the
various bcom_... functions dereference the buffer descriptor pointer
by using the array operator which doesn't work when the buffer
descriptors are a different size.
This patch adds the bcom_get_bd() function which uses the value in
bcom_task.bd_size to calculate the offset into the BD table. This
patch also changes the definition of bcom_bd to specify a data size
of 0 instead of 1 so that it will never work if anyone attempts to
dereference the bd list as an array (as opposed to something that
might work even though it is wrong).
Finally, this patch moves the definition of bcom_bd up in the file
to eliminate a forward declaration.

Kexec/kdump currently fails on the IBM QS2x blades when the kexec happens
on a CPU other than the initial boot CPU. It turns out that this is the
result of mpic_init trying to set affinity of each interrupt vector to the
current boot CPU.
As far as I can tell, the same problem is likely to exist on any
secondary MPIC, because they have to deliver interrupts to the first
output all the time. There are two potential solutions for this: either
not set up affinity at all for secondary MPICs, or assume that a single
CPU output is connected to the upstream interrupt controller and hardcode
affinity to that per architecture.
This patch implements the second approach, defaulting to the first output.
Currently, all known secondary MPICs are routed to their upstream port
using the first destination, so we hardcode that.

The Freescale implementation of MPIC only allows a single CPU destination
for non-IPI interrupts. We add a flag to the mpic_init to distinquish

The init_phy() function attaches to the PHY, then configures the
SerDes<->TBI link (in SGMII mode). The TBI is on the MDIO bus with the PHY
(sort of) and is accessed via the gianfar's MDIO registers, using the
functions gfar_local_mdio_read/write(), which don't do any locking.
The previously attached PHY will start a work-queue on a timer, and
probably an irq handler as well, which will talk to the PHY and thus use
the MDIO bus. This uses phy_read/write(), which have locking, but not
against the gfar_local_mdio versions.
The result is that PHY code will try to use the MDIO bus at the same time
as the SerDes setup code, corrupting the transfers.
Setting up the SerDes before attaching to the PHY will insure that there is
no race between the SerDes code and *our* PHY, but doesn't fix everything.
Typically the PHYs for all gianfar devices are on the same MDIO bus, which
is associated with the first gianfar device. This means that the first
gianfar's SerDes code could corrupt the MDIO transfers for a different
gianfar's PHY.
The lock used by phy_read/write() is contained in the mii_bus structure,
which is pointed to by the PHY. This is difficult to access from the
gianfar drivers, as there is no link between a gianfar device and the
mii_bus which shares the same MDIO registers. As far as the device layer
and drivers are concerned they are two unrelated devices (which happen to
share registers).
Generally all gianfar devices' PHYs will be on the bus associated with the
first gianfar. But this might not be the case, so simply locking the
gianfar's PHY's mii bus might not lock the mii bus that the SerDes setup
code is going to use.
We solve this by having the code that creates the gianfar platform device
look in the device tree for an mdio device that shares the gianfar's
registers. If one is found the ID of its platform device is saved in the
gianfar's platform data.
A new function in the gianfar mii code, gfar_get_miibus(), can use the bus
ID to search through the platform devices for a gianfar_mdio device with
the right ID. The platform device's driver data is the mii_bus structure,
which the SerDes setup code can use to lock the current bus.
