Although none of these errors are fatal (the expression used now results in

Commit 6175ddf06b changes the way
memcpy_toio() works for x86_64, causing firmware loading to fail for
some Ralink WLAN devices with the rt2800pci driver since linux 2.6.34.
This causes the log message: "phy0 -> rt2800pci_load_firmware: Error -
PBF system register not ready.".
Fix this by using __iowrite32_copy instead of memcpy_toio().

The Queue names were incorrectly copied from the legacy drivers,
as a result the queue names were inversed to what was expected.
This renames the queues using this mapping:
QID_AC_BK -> QID_AC_VO (priority 0)
QID_AC_BE -> QID_AC_VI (priority 1)
QID_AC_VI -> QID_AC_BE (priority 2)
QID_AC_VO -> QID_AC_BK (priority 3)
Note that this was a naming problem only, which didn't affect
the assignment of frames to their respective queues.

As part of the queue refactoring, change the queue callback
function names to have 3 different actions: start, kick & stop.
We can now also remove the STATE_RADIO_RX_ON/STATE_RADIO_RX_OFF
device_state flags, and replace the usage with using the
start_queue/stop_queue callback functions.
This streamlines the RX queue handling to the
similar approach as all other queues.

As part of the queue refactoring, we now introduce
3 queue commands: start, kick, stop.
- Start: will enable a queue, for TX this will
not mean anything, while for beacons and RX
this will update the registers to enable the queue.
- Kick: This will kick all pending frames to
the hardware. This is needed for the TX queue
to push all frames to the HW after the queue
has been started
- Stop: This will stop the queue in the hardware,
and cancel any pending work (So this doesn't
mean the queue is empty after a stop!).
Move all code from the drivers into the appropriate
functions, and link those calls to the old rt2x00lib
callback functions (we will fix this later when we
refactor the queue control inside rt2x00lib).

Commit 0204464329 "Check for specific changed
flags when updating the erp config" changed the way in which a new beacon
interval gets handled. However, due to a bug in rt2800usb and rt2800pci the
beacon interval was reset during each scan, thus causing problems in AdHoc
mode.
Fix this by not cleaning up the beacon interval when killing the beacon queue
but just prevent the device from sending out beacons.

The BSSID register shouldn't be set in AP mode on some older devices (like
rt73usb) as it breaks hw crypto on these. However, rt2800 devices explicitly
need the BSSID register set to the same value as our own MAC address (only
in AP mode).
Hence, don't set the BSSID from rt2x00lib but move it down into rt2800 to
avoid problems on older devices.
This fixes a regression (at least for rt73usb) and avoids a new regression
for rt2800 devices in 2.6.36.

Implement a basic flush callback function, which simply loops
over all TX queues and waits until all frames have been transmitted
and the status reports have been gathered.
At this moment we don't support dropping any frames during the
flush, but mac80211 will only send 'false' for this argument anyway,
so this is not important at this time.

All rt2x00 devices used the same Tx and Rx ring size (24 entries) till
now. Newer devices (like rt2800) can however make use of a larger TX and
RX ring due to 11n capabilities (AMPDUs of size 64 for example).
Hence, bring rt2x00 in sync with the legacy drivers and use the same TX
and RX ring sizes. Also remove the global defines RX_ENTRIES, TX_ENTRIES,
BEACON_ENTRIES and ATIM_ENTRIES and use per driver values.
That is 24 entries for rt2400pci, 32 entries for rt2500pci, rt2500usb,
rt61pci and rt73usb and 128 (RX) and 64 (TX) for rt2800pci and rt2800usb.

Currently, blinking LEDs can be awkward because it is not guaranteed that
all LEDs implement blinking. The trigger that wants it to blink then
needs to implement its own timer solution.
Rather than require that, add led_blink_set() API that triggers can use.
This function will attempt to use hw blinking, but if that fails
implements a timer for it. To stop blinking again, brightness_set() also
needs to be wrapped into API that will stop the software blink.
As a result of this, the timer trigger becomes a very trivial one, and
hopefully we can finally see triggers using blinking as well because it's
always easy to use.

All file_operations should get a .llseek operation so we can make
nonseekable_open the default for future file operations without a
.llseek pointer.
The three cases that we can automatically detect are no_llseek, seq_lseek
and default_llseek. For cases where we can we can automatically prove that
the file offset is always ignored, we use noop_llseek, which maintains
the current behavior of not returning an error from a seek.
New drivers should normally not use noop_llseek but instead use no_llseek
and call nonseekable_open at open time. Existing drivers can be converted
to do the same when the maintainer knows for certain that no user code
relies on calling seek on the device file.
The generated code is often incorrectly indented and right now contains
comments that clarify for each added line why a specific variant was
chosen. In the version that gets submitted upstream, the comments will
be gone and I will manually fix the indentation, because there does not
seem to be a way to do that using coccinelle.
Some amount of new code is currently sitting in linux-next that should get
the same modifications, which I will do at the end of the merge window.
Many thanks to Julia Lawall for helping me learn to write a semantic
patch that does all this.

kill_urb guarentees that when the function returns, the URB has
been fully killed. This means we don't need the extra sleeping
after the call to kill_urb.
kill_urb can however also guarentee the submit_urb to fail, as
a result, we must catch the return value from submit_urb an
correctly mark the entry as owned by the driver, and the
status as broken.

The watchdog function must run on a work_queue
which is independent of any other work inside rt2x00.
The main reasons, being that a broken work on the mac80211
work_queue can otherwise prevent the watchdog to run (while
in fact the watchdog could fix the issue). And on the other
hand because the watchdog relies on the completion of the
completion handlers for RX/TX which for the USB case, occur
on the mac80211 workqueue.
This fixes some "Queue %d failed to flush" errors, which were
caused by the watchdog function waiting on the completion
handler which was scheduled to run right after the watchdog.

A lot of functions accept a struct rt2x00_dev combined with
either a struct queue_entry or struct data_queue argument.
This can be simplified by only passing on the queue/entry
argument.
In cases where rt2x00_dev and a sk_buff are send together,
we can send the queue_entry instead.
rt2x00usb_alloc_urb and rt2x00usb_free_urb have a bit

If a frame is not meant to be sent as AMPDU or part of it the hw might
still decide to aggregate this frame if a previous frame started an
AMPDU. However, this will limit the usefulness of the reported tx rate
since the reported rate will be the one specified in the TXWI of the
first frame and thus it is not possible to reliably caculate the
number of retrys by substracting the reported tx rate from the tx rate
in the TXWI.
To fix this issue, only report the successful rate for frames that were
not meant to be aggregated but ended up in an aggregate.
Example:
Frame A (MCS7, AMPDU=1) B (MCS7, AMPDU=1) C (MCS12, AMDPU=0, PROBE_RATE)
Although frame C shoudn't be aggregated the hw might sill put it
into an AMPDU together with A and B. If the transmission succeeds the tx
status will contain MCS7 for all three frames. In that case we should
only report MCS7 as success rate and avoid reporting MCS12-MCS8 as
failed tx attempts as this will affect the future rate control
decisions.
This oddity might strike us in other scenarious as well but the most
common "wrong" report happened for frames used to probe a different tx
rate.
This improves the rate control decisions notable.

The TX_STA_FIFO contains some information for identifying
a outgoing frame, however matching by WCID and ACK status is
not sufficient to 100% identify the macthing queue_entry structure
(containing the SKB buffer) which belongs to the status report.
Within TX_STA_FIFO we have a 4-bit field named PACKETID, which is
currently used to encode the queue id. The queue ID is however
limited to values from 0 to 3, which means 2 bits are sufficient
to encode the value. With the remaining 2 bits we can encode a
partial queue_entry index number. The value of PACKETID is not
allowed to become 0, with the queue ID ranging from 0 to 3, at least
one of the bits for the entry identification must be 1.
That leaves us with 3 possible values we can still encode in the
bits. Altough this doesn't allow 100% accurate matching of the
TX_STA_FIFO queue to a queue_entry structure, it at least improves
the accuracy. This allows us to better detect if we have missed the
TX_STA_FIFO report, which in turn reduces the number of watchdog

rt61pci and rt2800 devices can use up to 7 different rates per tx frame.
However, the device uses a global fallback table. Hence, the rc
algortihm cannot specify multiple rates to try but the device is able to
report multiple rates (based on the retry table). Specify that behavior
by correctly setting max_report_rates and max_rates.
This makes rt2x00 and minstrel play nicer together.

Since rt2x00 USB devices have no chance to know when a beacon was sent
out in AP mode currently all broad- and multicast traffic is buffered in
mac80211 but never sent out at all.
Unfortunately we have no chance in sending the traffic out after a
DTIM beacon due to hw limitations. Hence, instead of never sending the
buffered traffic out better send it out immediately.

During rx, rt2x00lib calls rt2800pci_fill_rxdone to read the RX
descriptor. At that time the skb is already dma unmapped but no new skb
was dma mapped for this entry again. However, rt2800pci_fill_rxdone also
moves the hw rx queue index, marking this entry to be available for
reuse. Since no new skb was dma mapped and also the previous skb was
unmapped this might lead to strange hw behavior.
To fix this issue move the hw rx queue index increment to
rt2800pci_clear_entry where a new skb was already dma mapped and can be
safely used by the hw.

This patch changes the way tx status reports are handled by rt2800pci.
Previously rt2800pci would sometimes lose tx status reports as the
TX_STA_FIFO register is a fifo of 16 entries that can overflow in case
we don't read it often/fast enough. Since interrupts are disabled in the
device during the execution of the interrupt thread it happend sometimes
under high network and CPU load that processing took too long and a few
tx status reports were dropped by the hw.
To fix this issue the TX_STA_FIFO register is read directly in the
interrupt handler and stored in a kfifo which is large enough to hold
all status reports of all used tx queues.
To process the status reports a new tasklet txstatus_tasklet is used.
Using the already used interrupt thread is not possible since we don't
want to disable the TX_FIFO_STATUS interrupt while processing them and
it is not possible to schedule the interrupt thread multiple times for
execution. A tasklet instead can be scheduled multiple times which
allows to leave the TX_FIFO_STATUS interrupt enabled while a previously
scheduled tasklet is still executing.
In short: All other interrupts are handled in the interrupt thread as
before. Only the TX_FIFO_STATUS interrupt is partly handled in the
interrupt handler and finished in the according tasklet.
One drawback of this patch is that it duplicates some code from
rt2800lib. However, that can be cleaned up in the future once the
rt2800usb and rt2800pci tx status handling converge more.
Using this patch on a Ralink RT3052 embedded board gives me a reliable
wireless connection even under high CPU and network load. I've
transferred several gigabytes without any queue lockups.

The default llseek operation is changing from
default_llseek to no_llseek, so all code relying on
the current behaviour needs to make that explicit.
The wireless driver infrastructure and some of the drivers
make use of generated debugfs files, so they cannot

the right operation.
All these files use debugfs and they typically rely
on simple_read_from_buffer, so the best llseek operation
here is generic_file_llseek.

rt2x00usb_watchdog_reset_tx performs the same task
as rt2x00usb_kill_tx_queue, with the only difference
is that it waits for all entries to be returned to
the driver and for all frames the status has been
reported to mac80211.
We can easily split this task by calling rt2x00usb_kill_tx_queue,
sleep for a short period and invoke the TX status reporting
function. By adding the sleep() to the kill_entry we make sure
that even during shutdown we guarentee the entry has been killed when
the function returns. To make this work correctly the interrupt
handlers have to be updated to prevent checking for the RADIO_ENABLED
flag too early which prevents the ownership of the entry to be reset.
Additionally a check for the DEVICE_PRESENT flag is not required but
is nice to prevent race conditions when the device was unplugged.
Additionally rather then calling rt2x00usb_work_txdone() for
status reporting we let the driver perform the TX status reporting
first. If this is not sufficient then rt2x00usb_work_txdone() will
still be used to cleanup the mess.

The watchdog for rt2800usb triggers frequently causing all URB's
to be canceled often enough to interrupt the normal TX flow.
More research indicated that not the URB upload to the USB host
were hanging, but instead the TX status reports.
To correctly detect what is going on, we introduce Q_INDEX_DMA_DONE
which is an index counter between Q_INDEX_DONE and Q_INDEX and indicates
if the frame has been transfered to the device.
This also requires the rt2x00queue timeout functions to be updated
to differentiate between a DMA timeout (time between Q_INDEX and
Q_INDEX_DMA_DONE timeout) and a STATUS timeout (time between
Q_INDEX_DMA_DONE and Q_INDEX_DONE timeout)
All Q_INDEX_DMA_DONE code was taken from the RFC from

During initialization each driver reads the default TX power
for each individual channel. However mac80211 only accepts the
maximum value (which is also handled as default value).
As a result, the TX power of the device was being limited to
the default value, which is often quite low compared to the
real maximum acceptable value.
This patch allows each driver to set the maximum value on a
per-channel basis which is forwarded to mac80211. The default
value will be preserved for now, in case we want to update
mac80211 to differentiate between the maximum and default txpower.

Move all TX and RX completion handling into a work structure,
which is handeled on the mac80211 workqueue. This simplifies
the code in rt2x00lib since it no longer needs to check if the
device is USB or PCI to decide which mac80211 function should be used.
In the watchdog some changes are needed since it can no longer rely
on the TX completion function to be run while looping through the
entries. (Both functions now work on the same workqueue, so this
would deadlock). So the watchdog now waits for the URB to return,
and handle the TX status report directly.
As a side-effect, the debugfs entry for the RX queue now correctly
displays the positions of the INDEX and INDEX_DONE counters. This
also implies that it is not possible to perform checks like queue_empty()

is provided but key 0 is not, then the key is not found by the hardware

this will be quite problematic. Since WEP should not be used, disabling
hardware crypto offload for it will not hurt much. Beside static
one key WEP will still be offloaded.

rt2x00: Write the BSSID to register when interface is added
mananged mode in rt2500pci was broken, due to intf->bssid containing
random data rather then the expected 00:00:00:00:00:00
This is corrected by sending the BSSID to rt2x00lib_config_intf

The rt2x00dev->intf_work workqueue is never initialized when a driver is
probed for a non-existent device (in this case rt2500usb). On such a
path we call rt2x00lib_remove_dev() to free any resources initialized
during the probe before we use INIT_WORK to initialize the workqueue.
This causes lockdep to get confused since the lock used in the workqueue
hasn't been initialized yet but is now being acquired during
cancel_work_sync() called by rt2x00lib_remove_dev().
Fix this by initializing the workqueue first before we attempt to probe
the device. This should make lockdep happy and avoid breaking any
assumptions about how the library cleans up after a probe fails.

Currently rt2x00 uses the TSF_SYNC_BEACON mode for all beaconing
interface types. However, TSF_SYNC_BEACON is meant for IBSS networks and
thus implements TSF merging in the hardware. Rename TSF_SYNC_BEACON to
TSF_SYNC_ADHOC to better express its purpose and introduce the missing
TSF sync mode TSF_SYNC_AP_NONE which should be used for beaconing modes
that don't need TSF merging.

Using the set_tim callback without managing the DTIM count and the
broad- and multicast buffering in hw, fw or the driver results in wrong
DTIM count values being sent out in beacons. Since all PCI drivers
fetch new beacons periodically and hence get an updated TIM we can just
remove the set_tim callback from these.
The rt2x00 USB drivers don't update the beacon periodically and thus
rely on the set_tim callback to get a correct TIM for beacon
transmission. USB devices still suffer from the DTIM count being wrong
under some circumstances but removing the set_tim callback from these
would cause more harm then good.

Use threaded interrupts for all rt2x00 PCI devices.
This has several generic advantages:
- Reduce the time we spend in hard irq context
- Use non-atmic mac80211 functions for rx/tx
Furthermore implementing broad- and multicast buffering will be
much easier in process context while maintaining low latency and
updating the beacon just before transmission (pre tbtt interrupt)
can also be done in process context.

The RSSI values in the RXWI descriptor aren't true RSSI
values. Instead they are more like the AGC values similar
to rt61pci. And as such, it needs the same conversion
before it can be passed to rt2x00lib/mac80211.
This requires the struct queue_entry to be passed to
rt2800_process_rxwi rather then the skb structure which
is contained in the queue_entry. This is required to
obtain the lna_gain information from the rt2x00_dev structure.

best ones.

In some corner cases the reported tx rates/retries didn't match the really
used ones.
The hardware lowers the tx rate on each consecutive retry by 1 (but won't
fall back from MCS to legacy rates) _until_ it reaches the lowest one.
In case the frame wasn't sent succesful the number of retries is 7 and if
a rate index <7 was used the previous code reported negative rate indexes
which were then ignored by the rate control algorithm and mac80211.
Instead, report the remaining number of retries to have happened with
the lowest rate (index 0). This should give the rate control algorithm
slightly more accurate information about the used tx rates/retries.

As rt2800 has a global fallback table we cannot specify more then one tx rate
per frame but since the hw will try several different rates (based on the
fallback table) we should still initialize max_rates to the maximum number of
rates we are going to try. Otherwise mac80211 will truncate our reported tx
rates and the rc algortihm will end up with incorrect data choosing unsuitable
rates for tx.
This improves throughput on rt2800 devices considerable.

Currently rt2800pci will read TX_STA_FIFO until the previously read value
matches the current value. However, it is obvious that TX_STA_FIFO only
contains values that can easily be the same for multiple consecutive frames
(especially when communicating with only one other STA). Hence, we often
ended up with reading only the first entry and ignoring the rest.
One result was that when the TX_STA_FIFO contained multiple entires, only
the first one was read and properly handled while the others remained in the
tx queue.
Thus, drop this check but introduce a maximum number of reads. All legacy
drivers use the size of the tx ring as limit but state that the TX_STA_FIFO
has only 16 entries. So, let's just stick with the tx ring size for now.

rt2800pci used the callback write_tx_desc to write the tx descriptor but
also to update the txwi which is part of the dma mapped skb. Since the
memory was already DMA mapped _before_ the call to write_tx_desc the
device didn't get the txwi data at all or only sporadically.
The call order is basically as follows (from rt2x00queue.c):
1) write_tx_data
2) rt2x00queue_map_txskb
3) write_tx_desc
Hence, we shouldn't touch the skb in write_tx_desc anymore.
To fix this issue create a new rt2800pci_write_tx_data callback and use it
for updating the txwi _before_ the memory gets DMA mapped.
The tx descriptor is still written (as before) in write_tx_desc.
This patch allows basic TX on an rt305x soc device but I'm pretty sure
that it will fix pci based cards as well. I can associate just fine with

Add RT3390 specific register initializations to rt2x00, based on the latest
Ralink rt3390 vendor driver.
Untested as I don't actually own an RT3390 based device, but given experiences
on rt3070/rt3071 very hopeful that this will actually work..

rt2x00 had preliminary support for RT3070 based devices, but the support was
incomplete.
Update the RT3070 register initialization to be similar to the latest Ralink
vendor driver.

The rt2800 version constants are inconsistent, and the version number don't
mean a lot of things anyway. Refactor the constants to have some more
meaningful names, and introduce and use some new helpers to check these
chipset revisions. At the same time rename to revision, as they are more
revision numbers rather than version numbers.

It seems that the distinction between RF channel switch method is solely based
on the RF chipset that is used.
Refactor the channel switch decision to just take the RF chipset into account,
thereby greatly simplifying the check.
