AR_RTC_DERIVED_CLK is programmed differently for AR9340 and AR9550.
But, when a chip reset is done, processing the initvals

Fix this by moving the code in ath9k_hw_init_pll() to

The "goto chip_reset" is a bit misleading, because it does not actually
issue a chip reset. Instead it is bypassing processing of other
interrupts and assumes that the tasklet will issue a chip reset.
In the case of RXORN this does not happen, so bypassing processing of
other interrupts will simply allow them to fire again. Even if RXORN
was triggering a reset, it is not critical enough to need the bypass
here.

mac80211 currently has a race which can be hit
with this sequence:
* Start a scan operation.
* TX BA is initiated by ieee80211_start_tx_ba_session().
* Driver sets up internal state and calls
ieee80211_start_tx_ba_cb_irqsafe().
* mac80211 adds a packet to sdata->skb_queue with
type IEEE80211_SDATA_QUEUE_AGG_START.
* ieee80211_iface_work() doesn't process the
packet because scan is in progress.
* ADDBA response timer expires and the sta/tid is
torn down.
* Driver receives BA stop notification and calls
ieee80211_stop_tx_ba_cb_irqsafe().
* This is also added to the queue by mac80211.
* Now, scan finishes.
At this point, the queued up packets might be processed
if some other operation schedules the sdata work. Since
the tids have been cleaned up already, warnings are hit.
If this doesn't happen, the packets are left in the queue
until the interface is torn down.
Since initiating a BA session when scan is in progress
leads to flaky connections, especially in MCC mode, we
can drop the TX BA request. This improves connectivity
with legacy clients in MCC mode.

The flush timeout in MCC mode is very small, since
we are constrained by the time slice for each
channel context, but since only the HW queues are
flushed when switching contexts, it is acceptable.
Since the SW queues are also emptied in the mac80211 flush()
callback, a larger duration is needed. Add an override
argument to __ath9k_flush() and set it when flush()
is called in MCC mode. This allows the driver to
drain both the SW and HW queues.

expires in the driver. In MCC mode, since the
offchannel/RoC timer is set with the requested

But, currently it is done after we move back to

Pending frames in the driver can be present
either in the HW queues or SW. ath9k_has_pending_frames()
currently checks for the HW queues first and then
checks if any ACs are queued in the driver.
In MCC mode, we need to check the HW queues alone, since
the SW queues are just marked as 'stopped' - they will
be processed in the next context switch. But since we
don't differentiate this now, mention whether we want
to check if there are frames in the SW queues.
* The flush() callback checks both HW and SW queues.
* The tx_frames_pending() callback does the same.
* The call to __ath9k_flush() in MCC mode checks HW queues alone.

An offchannel operation also needs to have
a flush timeout that doesn't exceed the NoA
absence duration of a GO context, so use
channel_switch_time. The first offchannel
operation is set a flush timeout of 10ms since

In MCC mode, the duration for a channel context
is half the beacon interval and having a large
flush timeout will adversely affect GO operation,
since the default value of 200ms will overshoot
the advertised NoA absence duration.
The scheduler initiates a channel context switch
only when the slot duration for the current
context expires, so there is no possibility of
having a fixed timeout for flush.
Since the channel_switch_time is added to the
absence duration when the GO sets up the NoA
attribute, this is the maximum time that we
have to flush the TX queues. The duration is very
small, but we don't have a choice in MCC mode.

When a HW reset is done, the interrupt tasklet is
disabled before ISRs are disabled in the HW. This
allows a small window where the HW can still generate
interrupts. Since the tasklet is disabled and not killed,
it is not scheduled but deferred for execution at a later
time.
This happens because ATH_OP_HW_RESET is not set when ath_reset()
is called. When the hw_reset_work workqueue is used, this
problem doesn't arise because ATH_OP_HW_RESET is set
and the ISR bails out.

In MCC mode, currently the decision to enable
the multi-channel state machine is done
based on the association status if one of

This allows the driver to switch to the other

complete the 4-way handshake in case it is
required and this causes problems.

The NoA duration for a GO is half the beacon interval
and a concurrent context like a STA can be active only
for that duration, before switching back to the GO's
operating channel.
Currently, when multiple beacons are missed, the dwell
time for the STA context is extended to improve the
chances of receiving a beacon. But the NoA is not updated
and this will cause problems since the GO is offline
for a period that is longer than the advertised duration.
Fix this by ensuring that the NoA is updated first before
extending the time slot for the STA context. Also make
sure that non-periodic NoA is used for a one-time, longer
absence period.

* The index has to incremented only when advertising
a new NoA schedule.
* Switch to non-periodic NoA when starting a scan operation
and multiple channel contexts are active.
* Make sure that periodic NoA is advertised again when
scan ends. Since the offchannel timer moves the offchannel
state to IDLE after the GO operating channel becomes
active, use a flag "force_noa_update" to update the
NoA contents.

This reverts commit 09ebb81092.
ath9k_hw_set_sta_beacon_timers() configures AR_TIM_PERIOD with
the beacon interval. Before this commit, the sleepduration was
never greater than the beacon interval. But now, the behavior
has changed. For example, with an AP that uses a beacon interval of 100:
ath: phy9: next beacon 61128704
ath: phy9: beacon period 204800
ath: phy9: DTIM period 204800
If the sleepduration is calculated based on the listen time, then
the bmiss threshold should also be changed since the HW would
be in sleep state for a longer time, but that is not done currently.
To avoid configuring a higher beacon interval based on the sleepduration,
revert to the original behavior. Power consumption is not a
problem since PS is disabled in ath9k anyway.

Scanning is curently broken when two channel contexts
are active. For example in a P2P-GO/STA setup, the
offchannel timer allows HZ / 10 to elapse before initiating
a switch to the next scan channel from the current operating
channel, which in this case would be the P2P-GO context.
But, the channel context timer might decide to switch
to the STA context when an SWBA comes early and a beacon
is sent out. Since pending offchannel requests are processed
in EVENT_BEACON_PREPARE, this causes inconsistent scanning.
Fix this by making sure that a context switch happens
before processing the pending offchannel request. This
also makes sure that active channel contexts will always
have higher priority than offchannel operations and the
scan sequence looks like this:
p2p-go, sta, p2p-go, offchannel, p2p-go, sta, p2p-go, offchannel,.....
The oper-channel is p2p-go, so the STA context has to
switch to p2p-go again before switching offchannel.

When multiple channel contexts are active, an offchannel
request will not be handled immediately, but will be
queued to be handled later. But, currently, the channel definition
is not copied to the local offchannel state. This
breaks operation like scanning when MCC is active.

Currently, different units are used for handling
sc->offchannel.duration. In scan mode, it contains jiffies and in RoC

The start time field in the NoA attribute needs to be
updated based on the TSF timer when an absence notification
is sent by the P2P GO. When two channel contexts are active,
continuous, cyclic NoA is announced by setting the count value to 255,
but the start time is updated only once, for one beacon and
the same value is sent in all subsequent beacons, even
though the timestamp keeps moving.
Fix this by removing the check for 'periodic_noa_duration'
and assign the interface's start_time/duration values directly
when there is more than one active context.

If a station interface is already assigned to a context
and is active and a second interface of type AP is added,
then beaconing on the new interface has to be begin only
after the BSS_CHANGED_BEACON_ENABLED flag is sent by mac80211
to the driver.
But, since we issue ATH_CHANCTX_EVENT_ENABLE_MULTICHANNEL as soon
as a new channel context is added, a switch occurs almost immediately
before BSS_CHANGED_BEACON_ENABLED is received. When a HW reset
is done for the new context, beacons are enabled for the
interface since "enable_beacon" in the BSS config maintained
in mac80211 is true - but the driver hasn't been notified yet.
This causes a panic, since the beacon interval is zero for this
interface and ath9k_cmn_beacon_config_ap() doesn't have a safety check.
Fix this panic by checking if the beacon params has been cached
for this context and use the "enable_beacon" flag maintained
locally in the driver. Also, recalculate the summary data
after the beacon params have been cached when BSS_CHANGED_BEACON_ENABLED
is received.

In channel context mode, when a new context is added,
mac80211 issues a bss_info_changed() notfication when
preparing the connection for the new interface/context.
But, this is done prior to the mgd_prepare_tx() call which
is where we switch to the new context. Since the current
context will be different when the earlier bss_info_changed()
is handled, the beacon information for the VIF is not
updated, but discarded since the rules for the current context
disallows it.
In the subsequent association process for the new context/vif,
this becomes a problem because the beacon parameters are invalid.
This causes problems with the TSF timer, causing large jumps.
To fix this, check if the beacon info is being updated for a
different context and if so, allow it without any checks since
we limit the max. interfaces to two anyway.

Based on a quick test with AR9271, TDLS seems to be working fine.
Tests were done with 2 Atheros AR9271 based devices with firmware
1.3 (sha1 8d49f928aa40ac53c729189bff1333cd373a7fb5), associated
with a WAP54G access point. TDLS worked fine both in WPA2 mode and
without encryption. Stations maintained ping flood traffic between
each other and towards the AP without significant losses.
Not tested with AR7010.
TDLS was enabled in earlier patches the same way for other
Atheros drivers:
ath9k (fd6562344d),
and carl9170 (d1f3de71a5).

- Core timekeeping code is year-2038 safe now for 32bit machines.
Now we just need to fix all in kernel users and the gazillion of
user space interfaces which rely on timespec/timeval :)
- Better cache layout for the timekeeping internal data structures.
- Proper nanosecond based interfaces for in kernel users.
- Tree wide cleanup of code which wants nanoseconds but does hoops
and loops to convert back and forth from timespecs. Some of it
definitely belongs into the ugly code museum.
- Consolidation of the timekeeping interface zoo.
- A fast NMI safe accessor to clock monotonic for tracing. This is a
long standing request to support correlated user/kernel space
traces. With proper NTP frequency correction it's also suitable
for correlation of traces accross separate machines.
- Checkpoint/restart support for timerfd.
- A few NOHZ[_FULL] improvements in the [hr]timer code.
- Code move from kernel to kernel/time of all time* related code.
- New clocksource/event drivers from the ARM universe. I'm really
impressed that despite an architected timer in the newer chips SoC
manufacturers insist on inventing new and differently broken SoC
specific timers.
[ Ed. "Impressed"? I don't think that word means what you think it means ]

up being transmitted through the U-APSD queue (via PS-Poll or U-APSD).

Fix this by keeping track of the queue that a frame was accounted for in

The data transmission to the power save station should be aborted
immediately, whenever the station informs sleep state. Right now
the frames queued into into hardware are being transmitted until
the hardware detects the power save station based excessive retries
of the data frames due to unacknowlegdement. Then remaining frames
are returned with filetered status and might be retried later by
driver or mac80211.
Per WFA certification testing, AP should not send out more than two
frames after processing nullfunc with PM bit set from associated
station. To speed up tx filtering, the pending frames in hardware
queues for given station will be aborted immediately via tx filter
registers. This transmit filters can be ignored if the descriptor
is having invalid destination index or clear destination mask set.

There are some corner cases where the driver could get stuck with a full
tid queue that is paused, leading to a software tx queue hang.
Since the tx queueing rework, pausing per-tid queues on aggregation
session setup is no longer necessary. The driver will assign sequence
numbers to buffered frames when a new session is established, in order
to get the correct starting sequence number.
mac80211 prevents new frames from entering the queue during setup.

When the amount of noise fluctuates strongly, low immunity settings
can sometimes disrupt signal detection on AR913x chips. When that
happens, no OFDM/CCK errors are reported anymore, and ANI tunes the
radio to the lowest immunity settings.
Usually rx/tx fails as well in that case.
To fix this, keep noise immunity settings at or above ANI default level,
which will keep radio parameters at or above INI values.

Without this, we can encounter a host of issues during high wireless traffic

The same thing was proposed previously by Ben:

On older chips, the INI value differ in similar ways as cycpwr_thr1, so
convert it to absolute values as well.
Since the ANI algorithm is different here compared to the old

it makes sense to use values similar to what would be applied for newer
chips, just without relying on INI defaults.

The table was copied from the ANI implementation of AR9300. It assumes
that the INI values contain a baseline value that is usable as reference
from which to increase/decrease based on the noise immunity value.
On older chips, the differences are bigger and especially AR5008/AR9001
are configured to much more sensitive values than what is useful.
Improve ANI behavior by reverting to the absolute values used in the
previous implementation (expressed as a simple formula instead of the
old table).

The commit 80b4205b "ath9k: Fix OFDM weak signal detection for AP mode"
prevented weak signal detection changes from taking effect in AP mode on
all chipsets, claiming it is "not allowed".
The main reason for not disabling weak signal detection in AP mode is
that typically beacon RSSI is used to track whether it is needed to
boost range, and this is unavailable in AP mode for obvious reasons.
The problem with not disabling weak signal detection is that older
chipsets are very sensitive to high PHY error counts. When faced with
heavy noise, this can lead to an excessive amount of "Failed to stop
TX DMA" errors in the field.

There is no benefit in retaining the legacy rate control module
in the driver codebase.
It is known to be buggy and has less than optimal performance
in real-world environments compared with minstrel. The only
reason that it was kept when we made the switch to minstrel
as default was that it showed higher throughput numbers in a
clean/ideal environment.
This is no longer the case and minstrel can push ath9k to
the same throughput levels. In TCP, with 3-stream cards, more than
295 Mbps can be obtained in open air, with 2-stream cards,
210 Mbps is easily reached. To test performance issues,
instead of using a broken rate control module, it is better
