Currently, the status register FI2C_SR is checked immediately after

When enumerating I2C devices connected to an I2C adapter we scan the whole
namespace (as it is possible to have devices anywhere in that namespace,
not just below the I2C adapter device) and add each found device to the I2C
bus in question.
Now after commit 525e6fabea ("i2c / ACPI: add support for ACPI
reconfigure notifications") checking of the adapter handle to the one found
in the I2cSerialBus() resource was moved to happen after resources of the
I2C device has been parsed. This means that if the I2cSerialBus() resource
points to an adapter that does not exists in the system we still parse
those resources. This is problematic in particular because
acpi_dev_resource_interrupt() tries to configure GSI if the device also has
an Interrupt() resource. Failing to do that results errrors like this to be
printed on the console:
[ 10.409490] ERROR: Unable to locate IOAPIC for GSI 37
To fix this we pass the I2C adapter to i2c_acpi_get_info() and make sure
the handle matches the one in the I2cSerialBus() resource before doing
anything else to the device.

the eg20t driver call request_irq() function before the pch_base_address,
base address of i2c controller's register, is assigned an effective value.
there is one possible scenario that an interrupt which isn't inside eg20t
arrives immediately after request_irq() is executed when i2c controller
shares an interrupt number with others. since the interrupt handler
pch_i2c_handler() has already active as shared action, it will be called
and read its own register to determine if this interrupt is from itself.
At that moment, since base address of i2c registers is not remapped
in kernel space yet,so the INT handler will access an illegal address
and then a error occurs.

Since commit 1c4b6c3bcf ("i2c: imx: implement bus recovery") the
driver starts to use gpio/pinctrl to support optional bus recovery
feature. But pinctrl is not always usable. There are platforms such
as ls1021a and ls1043a that don't support pinctrl, and it could just
be broken due to old/broken device tree. The patch makes it really
optional that the probe function won't bailout on pinctrl problems
instead it just disables bus recovery and prints out notification when
there is problem with pinctrl. Since pinctrl is only used by bus
recovery in this driver, move pinctrl initialization into bus recovery
init function to prevent confusion.

Depending on a number of factors including:
- Which exact Rockchip SoC we're working with
- How deep we suspend
- Which i2c port we're on
We might lose the state of the i2c registers at suspend time.
Specifically we've found that on rk3399 the i2c ports that are not in
the PMU power domain lose their state with the current suspend depth
configured by ARM Tursted Firmware.
Note that there are very few actual i2c registers that aren't configured
per transfer anyway so all we actually need to re-configure are the
clock config registers. We'll just add a call to rk3x_i2c_adapt_div()
at resume time and be done with it.
NOTE: On rk3399 on ports whose power was lost, I put printouts in at
resume time. I saw things like:
before: con=0x00010300, div=0x00060006
after: con=0x00010200, div=0x00180025

To summarize the issue observed in error cases:
SW Flow: For i2c message transfer, packet header and data payload is
posted and then required error/packet completion interrupts are enabled
later.
HW flow: HW process the packet just after packet header is posted, if
ARB lost/NACK error occurs (SW will not handle immediately when error
happens as error interrupts are not enabled at this point). HW assumes
error is acknowledged and clears current data in FIFO, But SW here posts
the remaining data payload which still stays in FIFO as stale data
(data without packet header).
Now once the interrupts are enabled, SW handles ARB lost/NACK error by
clearing the ARB lost/NACK interrupt. Now HW assumes that SW attended
the error and will parse/process stale data (data without packet header)
present in FIFO which causes invalid NACK errors.
Fix: Enable the error interrupts before posting the packet into FIFO
which make sure HW to not clear the fifo. Also disable the packet mode
before acknowledging errors (ARB lost/NACK error) to not process any
stale data. As error interrupts are enabled before posting the packet
header use spinlock to avoid preempting.

There are several ways to set the SDA hold time for i2c controller,
including: Device Tree, built-in device properties and ACPI. However,
if the SDA hold time is not specified by above method, we should
read the value, where it is preset by firmware, and save it to
sda_hold_time. This is needed because when i2c controller enters
runtime suspend, the DW_IC_SDA_HOLD value will be reset to chipset
default value. And during runtime resume, i2c_dw_init will be called
to reconfigure i2c controller. If sda_hold_time is zero, the chipset
default hold time will be used, that will be too short for some
platforms. Therefore, to have a better tolerance, the DW_IC_SDA_HOLD
value should be kept by sda_hold_time.

On Tegra124/132 the pins for I2C6 are shared with the Display Port AUX
(DPAUX) channel and on Tegra210 the pins for I2C4 and I2C6 are shared
with DPAUX1 and DPAUX0, respectively. The multiplexing of the pins is
handled by a register in the DPAUX and so the Tegra DPAUX driver has
been updated to register a pinctrl device for managing these pins.
The pins for these particular I2C devices are bound to the I2C device
prior to probing. However, these I2C devices are in a different power
partition to the DPAUX devices that own the pins. Hence, it is desirable
to place the pins in the 'idle' state and allow the DPAUX power
partition to switch off, when these I2C devices is not in use.
Therefore, add calls to place the I2C pins in the 'default' and 'idle'
states when the I2C device is runtime resumed and suspended,
respectively.
Please note that the pinctrl functions that set the state of the pins
check to see if the devices has pins associated and will return zero
if they do not. Therefore, it is safe to call these pinctrl functions
even for I2C devices that do not have any pins associated.

Note that given that CONFIG_PM is not mandatory for Tegra, if CONFIG_PM

In the function tegra_i2c_init(), the variable 'err' does not need to be
initialised to zero in tegra_i2c_init() because it is initialised when
pm_runtime_get_sync() is called. Furthermore, to ensure we only return 0

for each I2C transfer. Even if we don't wait for it to be disabled
anymore, on next transfer we will need to if we have several transfers
in a row.
Now during the transfer init we check if IC_TAR can be changed
dynamically, the status register for no activity and TX buffer being
empty. In this case we don't need to disable it
When a transfer fails the adapter will still be disabled - this is a
conservative approach. When transfers succeed, the adapter is left
enabled and it's configured so to disable interrupts.
Alternating register reads on 2 slaves:
perf stat -r4 chrt -f 10 ./i2c-test /dev/i2c-1 25000 0x40 0x6 0x1e 0x00

This adapter can be synthesized with dynamic tar update enabled or disabled.
When enabled it is not necessary to disable the adapter to change the slave
address in some situations, which saves some time per transaction.
There is no direct register to know if this feature is enabled but we can do it
indirectly by writing to the 10BIT_ADDR field in IC_CON: this field is
read only when dynamic tar update is enabled.

If we aren't going to continue using the controller we can just disable
it instead of waiting for it to complete. The biggest improvement here
is when a I2C transaction is completed and it doesn't block until
the adapter is disabled. When a new transfer is needed we will disable
and wait for its completion.
This way the adapter will continue changing its state in parallel to the
execution of the thread that requested the I2C transaction saving most
of the time 25~250 usec per I2C transaction.
A simple program doing a register read (1 byte write, 1 byte read)
alternating on 2 different slaves repeated 25k times for each and
measurements taken 4 times we get:

Fast mode is the default speed of i2c-designware which can be overridden
by platform data or by "clock-frequency" device property. Even though
the ACPI 5.1 can pass device properties via _DSD method, shipping systems
define the connection speed between I2C host and each slave in their
I2cSerialBus resources. Which means speed is not defined per bus but per
slave.
As there is now support in i2c-core to find the bus speed from ACPI use
that to set up the bus speed prior registering the I2C adapter.

ACPI 5 specification doesn't have property for the I2C bus speed but
I2cSerialBus resource descriptor which define each controller-slave
connection define the maximum speed supported by that connection.
Thus finding the maximum safe speed for the bus is to walk through all
I2cSerialBus resources that are associated to I2C controller and use the
speed of slowest connection.
Add function i2c_acpi_find_bus_speed() to the i2c-core that adapter
drivers can call prior registering itself to core.
This implies two-step walk through the I2cSerialBus resources: call to
i2c_acpi_find_bus_speed() does the first scan and finds the safe bus
speed that adapter drivers can set up. Adapter driver registration does
the second scan when i2c-core creates the I2C slaves by calling the
i2c_acpi_register_devices(). In that way the bus speed is set in case
slave device probe gets called during registration and does communication.
Previous version commit 55d38d060e ("i2c: core: Add function for finding
the bus speed from ACPI") got reverted due merge conflicts from
commit 525e6fabea ("i2c / ACPI: add support for ACPI reconfigure
notifications").
This version is a bit bigger than previous version but is still sharing
the lowest and complicated part of I2cSerialBus lookup routines with the
existing code.

The "alternative command" feature was introduced with sama5d2 SoCs.
Its purpose is to let the hardware i2c controller automatically send the
STOP condition on the i2c bus at the end of a data transfer.
Without this feature, the i2c driver has to write the 'STOP' bit into the
Control Register so the hardware i2c controller is triggered to send the
STOP condition on the bus.
Using the "alternative command" feature requires to set the transfer data
length into the 8bit DATAL field of the Alternative Command Register.
Hence only data transfers up to 255 bytes can take advantage of the
"alternative command" feature. For greater data transfer sizes, the driver
should use the previous implementation, when the "alternative command"
support was not implemented yet.

cros_ec_cmd_xfer returns success status if the command transport

In many cases, the execution result is assumed to be successful, leading
to ignored errors and operating on uninitialized data.
We've recently introduced the cros_ec_cmd_xfer_status() helper to avoid these

The IS_ENABLED() macro checks if a Kconfig symbol has been enabled either
built-in or as a module, use that macro instead of open coding the same.
Using the macro makes the code more readable by helping abstract away some
of the Kconfig built-in and module enable details.

1. The current QCOM I2C driver code is failing for transfer length
greater than 255. This is happening due to improper segments length
as the I2C DMA segments can be maximum of 256 bytes.
2. The transfer length tlen was being initialized with 0 for 256
bytes, which is being passed for DMA mappings resulting in improper
DMA mapping length.
This patch fixes the above said problems by initializing the block
count with the values calculated in qup_i2c_set_blk_data and calculating
the remaining length for last DMA segment. Also, the block data length
need to be decremented after each transfer. Additionally, this patch
corrects the tlen assignment for DMA mapping.

1. Current QCOM I2C driver hangs when sending data to address 0x03-0x07
in some scenarios. The QUP controller generates invalid write in this
case, since these addresses are reserved for different bus formats.
2. Also, the error handling is done by I2C QUP ISR in the case of DMA
mode. The state need to be RESET in case of any error for clearing the
available data in FIFO, which otherwise leaves the BAM DMA controller
in hang state.
This patch fixes the above two issues by clearing the error bits from
I2C and QUP status in ISR in case of I2C error, QUP error and resets
the QUP state to clear the FIFO data.

ACPI 5 specification doesn't have property for the I2C bus speed but
I2cSerialBus resource descriptors which define each controller-slave
connection define the maximum speed supported by that connection.
Thus finding the maximum safe speed for the bus is to walk all
I2cSerialBus resources that are associated to I2C controller and use
the speed of slowest connection.
In that way the bus speed is set in case
slave device probe gets called during registration and does
communication.
Implement this by reusing the existing ACPI I2C walk routines in the
i2c-core. Extend them so that slowest connection speed is saved during
the walk and I2C slaves are registered only when calling through the
i2c_acpi_register_devices() with the i2c_adapter pointer.

This patch adds supports for I2C device enumeration and removal via
ACPI reconfiguration notifications that are send as a result of an
ACPI table load or unload operation.
The code is very similar with the device tree reconfiguration code
with only small differences in the way we test and set the enumerated
state of the device:
* the equivalent of device tree's OF_POPULATED flag is the
flags.visited field in the ACPI device and the following
wrappers are used to manipulate it: acpi_device_enumerated(),
acpi_device_set_enumerated() and acpi_device_clear_enumerated()
* the device tree code checks of status of the OF_POPULATED flag to
avoid trying to create duplicate Linux devices in two places: once
when the controller is probed, and once when the reconfigure event
is received; in the ACPI code the check is performed only once when
the ACPI namespace is searched because this code path is invoked in
both of the two mentioned cases
The rest of the enumeration handling is similar with device tree: when
the Linux device is unregistered the ACPI device is marked as not
enumerated; also, when a device remove notification is received we
check that the device is in the enumerated state before continuing
with the removal of the Linux device.

enables the Tegra I2C 'div_clk' for adapters using the multi-master mode
during the device probe. Although the probe error path was updated to
disable the clock on probe failure, there is one place after calling
tegra_i2c_init() where the clock will not be disabled on failure. Correct
the error path so that the 'div_clk' is disabled if calling

As of next-20160607 with allyesconfig we get this linker failure:
MODPOST vmlinux.o
WARNING: vmlinux.o(.text+0x21bc0d): Section mismatch in reference from
the function intel_scu_devices_create() to the function
.init.text:i2c_register_board_info()
This is caused by the fact that intel_scu_devices_create() calls
i2c_register_board_info() and intel_scu_devices_create() is not
annotated with __init. This typically involves manual code
inspection and if one is certain this is correct we would
just peg intel_scu_devices_create() with a __ref annotation.
In this case this would be wrong though as the
intel_scu_devices_create() call is exported, and used in
the ipc_probe() on drivers/platform/x86/intel_scu_ipc.c.
The issue is that even though builtin_pci_driver(ipc_driver)
is used this just exposes the probe routine, which can occur
at any point in time if this bus supports hotplug. A race
can happen between kernel_init_freeable() that calls the init
calls (in this case registeres the intel_scu_ipc.c driver, and
later free_initmem(), which would free the i2c_register_board_info().
If a probe happens later in boot i2c_register_board_info() would
not be present and we should get a page fault.

SMBus Host Notify allows a slave device to act as a master on a bus to
notify the host of an interrupt. On Intel chipsets, the functionality
is directly implemented in the firmware. We just need to export a
function to call .alert() on the proper device driver.
i2c_handle_smbus_host_notify() behaves like i2c_handle_smbus_alert().
When called, it schedules a task that will be able to sleep to go through
the list of devices attached to the adapter.

Some I2C devices have multiple addresses assigned, for example each address
corresponding to a different internal register map page of the device.
So far drivers which need support for this have handled this with a driver
specific and non-generic implementation, e.g. passing the additional address
via platform data.
This patch provides a new helper function called i2c_new_secondary_device()
which is intended to provide a generic way to get the secondary address
as well as instantiate a struct i2c_client for the secondary address.
The function expects a pointer to the primary i2c_client, a name
for the secondary address and an optional default address. The name is used
as a handle to specify which secondary address to get.
The default address is used as a fallback in case no secondary address
was explicitly specified. In case no secondary address and no default
address were specified the function returns NULL.
For now the function only supports look-up of the secondary address
from devicetree, but it can be extended in the future
to for example support board files and/or ACPI.

Many Intel systems the BIOS declares a SystemIO OpRegion below the SMBus
PCI device as can be seen in ACPI DSDT table from Lenovo Yoga 900:
Device (SBUS)
{
OperationRegion (SMBI, SystemIO, (SBAR << 0x05), 0x10)
Field (SMBI, ByteAcc, NoLock, Preserve)
{
HSTS, 8,
Offset (0x02),
HCON, 8,
HCOM, 8,
TXSA, 8,
DAT0, 8,
DAT1, 8,
HBDR, 8,
PECR, 8,
RXSA, 8,
SDAT, 16
}
There are also bunch of AML methods that that the BIOS can use to access
these fields. Most of the systems in question AML methods accessing the
SMBI OpRegion are never used.
Now, because of this SMBI OpRegion many systems fail to load the SMBus
driver with an error looking like one below:
ACPI Warning: SystemIO range 0x0000000000003040-0x000000000000305F
conflicts with OpRegion 0x0000000000003040-0x000000000000304F
(\_SB.PCI0.SBUS.SMBI) (20160108/utaddress-255)
ACPI: If an ACPI driver is available for this device, you should use
it instead of the native driver
The reason is that this SMBI OpRegion conflicts with the PCI BAR used by
the SMBus driver.
It turns out that we can install a custom SystemIO address space handler
for the SMBus device to intercept all accesses through that OpRegion. This

i2c-dev had never moved away from the older register_chrdev interface to
implement its char device registration. The register_chrdev API has the
limitation of enabling only up to 256 i2c-dev busses to exist.
Large platforms with lots of i2c devices (i.e. pluggable transceivers)
with dedicated busses may have to exceed that limit.
In particular, there are also platforms making use of the i2c bus
multiplexing API, which instantiates a virtual bus for each possible
multiplexed selection.
This patch removes the register_chrdev usage and replaces it with the
less old cdev API, which takes away the 256 i2c-dev bus limitation.
It should not have any other impact for i2c bus drivers or user space.
This patch has been tested on qemu x86 and qemu powerpc platforms with
the aid of a module which adds and removes 5000 virtual i2c busses, as
well as validated on an existing powerpc hardware platform which makes
use of the i2c bus multiplexing API.
i2c-dev busses with device minor numbers larger than 256 have also been
validated to work with the existing i2c-tools.

Pull i2c updates from Wolfram Sang:
- Peter Rosin did some major rework on the locking of i2c muxes by
seperating parent-locked muxes and mux-locked muxes.
This avoids deadlocks/workarounds when the mux itself needs i2c
commands for muxing. And as a side-effect, other workarounds in the
media layer could be eliminated. Also, Peter stepped up as the i2c
mux maintainer and will keep an eye on these changes.
- major updates to the octeon driver
- add a helper to the core to generate the address+rw_bit octal and
make drivers use it
- quite a bunch of driver updates

With a i2c topology like the following
GPIO ---| ------ BAT1
| v /
I2C -----+----------+---- MUX
| \
EEPROM ------ BAT2
there is a locking problem with the GPIO controller since it is a client
on the same i2c bus that it muxes. Transfers to the mux clients (e.g. BAT1)
will lock the whole i2c bus prior to attempting to switch the mux to the
correct i2c segment. In the above case, the GPIO device is an I/O expander
with an i2c interface, and since the GPIO subsystem knows nothing (and
rightfully so) about the lockless needs of the i2c mux code, this results
in a deadlock when the GPIO driver issues i2c transfers to modify the
mux.
So, observing that while it is needed to have the i2c bus locked during the
actual MUX update in order to avoid random garbage on the slave side, it
is not strictly a must to have it locked over the whole sequence of a full
select-transfer-deselect mux client operation. The mux itself needs to be
locked, so transfers to clients behind the mux are serialized, and the mux
needs to be stable during all i2c traffic (otherwise individual mux slave
segments might see garbage, or worse).
Introduce this new locking concept as "mux-locked" muxes, and call the
pre-existing mux locking scheme "parent-locked".
Modify the i2c mux locking so that muxes that are "mux-locked" locks only
the muxes on the parent adapter instead of the whole i2c bus when there is
a transfer to the slave side of the mux. This lock serializes transfers to
the slave side of the muxes on the parent adapter.
Add code to i2c-mux-gpio and i2c-mux-pinctrl that checks if all involved
gpio/pinctrl devices have a parent that is an i2c adapter in the same
adapter tree that is muxed, and request a "mux-locked mux" if that is the
case.
Modify the select-transfer-deselect code for "mux-locked" muxes so
that each of the select-transfer-deselect ops locks the mux parent
adapter individually.

Add i2c_lock_bus() and i2c_unlock_bus(), which call the new lock_bus and
unlock_bus ops in the adapter. These funcs/ops take an additional flags
argument that indicates for what purpose the adapter is locked.
There are two flags, I2C_LOCK_ROOT_ADAPTER and I2C_LOCK_SEGMENT, but they
are both implemented the same. For now. Locking the root adapter means
that the whole bus is locked, locking the segment means that only the
current bus segment is locked (i.e. i2c traffic on the parent side of
a mux is still allowed even if the child side of the mux is locked).
Also support a trylock_bus op (but no function to call it, as it is not
expected to be needed outside of the i2c core).
Implement i2c_lock_adapter/i2c_unlock_adapter in terms of the new locking
scheme (i.e. lock with the I2C_LOCK_ROOT_ADAPTER flag).
Locking the root adapter and locking the segment is the same thing for
all root adapters (e.g. in the normal case of a simple topology with no
i2c muxes). The two locking variants are also the same for traditional
muxes (aka parent-locked muxes). These muxes traverse the tree, locking
each level as they go until they reach the root. This patch is preparatory
for a later patch in the series introducing mux-locked muxes, which behave
differently depending on the requested locking. Since all current users
are using i2c_lock_adapter, which is a wrapper for I2C_LOCK_ROOT_ADAPTER,
we only need to annotate the calls that will not need to lock the root
adapter for mux-locked muxes. I.e. the instances that needs to use
I2C_LOCK_SEGMENT instead of i2c_lock_adapter/I2C_LOCK_ROOT_ADAPTER. Those
instances are in the i2c_transfer and i2c_smbus_xfer functions, so that
mux-locked muxes can single out normal i2c accesses to its slave side
and adjust the locking for those accesses.

When clock support was added to the i2c-mv64xxx, not all clk functions
had stubs when for !CONFIG_HAVE_CLK configurations. However, nowadays,
both "struct clk" and all the clock framework functions have stubs
when CONFIG_HAVE_CLK is not enabled, so it no longer makes sense to
carry such compile-time conditionals in the driver.
This commit was compile tested on both ARM64 (which has both
CONFIG_OF=y and CONFIG_HAVE_CLK=y) and PowerPC c2k_defconfig (which
has CONFIG_OF=y, CONFIG_HAVE_CLK disabled, and the i2c-mv64xxx driver
enabled).
The only non-trivial change is in the mv64xxx_of_config() function,
which was returning -ENODEV unconditionally if CONFIG_HAVE_CLK was
disabled. Simply removing this condition works fine because the first
test done by the function is to verify if drv_data->clk points to a
valid clock, and if it doesn't, we return -ENODEV. When
CONFIG_HAVE_CLK is disabled, devm_clk_get() unconditionally returns
NULL, so mv64xxx_of_config() will return -ENODEV when no clock is
provided, which is the intended behavior.

If a clock is registered by a platform driver and not by the
OF_CLK_DECLARE() mechanism, it might show up after the first attempt
to probe i2c-mv64xxx. In order to solve this, we need to handle
-EPROBE_PREFER as a special return value of devm_clk_get(), and return
the same error code from probe().
This gives us three situations:
- There is no reference to a clock in the DT. In this case,
devm_clk_get() returns an error that is not -EPROBE_DEFER
(something like -ENODEV), and we continue the probing without
enabling the clock.
- There is a reference to the clock in the DT, and the clock is
ready. devm_clk_get() returns a valid reference to the clock, and
we prepare/enable it.
- There is a reference to the clock in the DT, but the clock is not
ready. devm_clk_get() returns -EPROBE_DEFER, and we exit from
probe() with the same error code so that probe() is tried again
later.

There is a race between the TWSI interrupt and the condition
that is required before proceeding:
Low-level: interrupt flag bit must be set
High-level controller: valid bit must be clear
If the interrupt comes too early and the condition is not met
the wait will time out, and the transfer is aborted leading
to very poor performance.
To avoid this race retry for the condition ~80 µs later.
The retry is avoided on the very first invocation of
wait_event_timeout() (which tests the condition before entering
the wait and is therefore always wrong in this case).
EEPROM reads on 100kHz i2c now measure ~5.2kB/s, about 1/2 what's
achievable, and much better than the worst-case 100 bytes/sec before.

The exynos5 I2C controller driver always prepares and enables a clock
before using it and then disables unprepares it when the clock is not
used anymore.
But this can cause a possible ABBA deadlock in some scenarios since a
driver that uses regmap to access its I2C registers, will first grab
the regmap lock and then the I2C xfer function will grab the prepare
lock when preparing the I2C clock. But since the clock driver also
uses regmap for I2C accesses, preparing a clock will first grab the
prepare lock and then the regmap lock when using the regmap API.
An example of this happens on the Exynos5422 Odroid XU4 board where a
s2mps11 PMIC is used and both the s2mps11 regulators and clk drivers
share the same I2C regmap.
The possible deadlock is reported by the kernel lockdep:

All i2c-muxes have a parent adapter and one or many child
adapters. A mux also has some means of selection. Previously,
this was stored per child adapter, but it is only needed
to keep track of this per mux.
Add an i2c mux core, that keeps track of this consistently.
Also add some glue for users of the old interface, which will
create one implicit mux core per child adapter.

Enable multi-master mode in I2C_CNFG reg based on hw features.
Using single/multi-master mode bit introduced for Tegra210,
whereas multi-master mode is enabled by default in HW for T124 and
earlier Tegra SOC. Enabling this bit doesn't explicitly start
treating the bus has having multiple masters, but will start
checking for arbitration lost and reporting when it occurs.
The Tegra210 I2C controller supports single/multi master mode.
Add chipdata for Tegra210 and its compatibility string so that
Tegra210 will select data that enables multi master mode correctly.
Do below prerequisites for multi-master bus if "multi-master"
dt property entry is added.
1. Enable 1st level clock always set.
2. Disable 2nd level clock gating (slcg which

When using a certain I2C device with runtime PM enabled on
a certain I2C bus adaper the following happens:
struct amba_device *foo
\
struct i2c_adapter *bar
\
struct i2c_client *baz
The AMBA device foo has its device PM struct set to ignore
children with pm_suspend_ignore_children(&foo->dev, true).
This makes runtime PM work just fine locally in the driver:
the fact that devices on the bus are suspended or resumed
individually does not affect its operation, and the hardware
does not power up unless transferring messages.
However this child ignorance property is not inherited into
the struct i2c_adapter *bar.
On system suspend things will work fine.
On system resume the following annoying phenomenon occurs:
- In the pm_runtime_force_resume() path of
struct i2c_client *baz, pm_runtime_set_active(&baz->dev); is
eventually called.
- This becomes __pm_runtime_set_status(&baz->dev, RPM_ACTIVE);
- __pm_runtime_set_status() detects that RPM state is changed,
and checks whether the parent is:
not active (RPM_ACTIVE) and not ignoring its children
If this happens it concludes something is wrong, because
a parent that is not ignoring its children must be active
before any children activate.
- Since the struct i2c_adapter *bar does not ignore
its children, the PM core thinks that it must indeed go
online before its children, the check bails out with
-EBUSY, i.e. the i2c_client *baz thinks it can't work
because it's parent is not online, and it respects its
parent.
- In the driver the .resume() callback returns -EBUSY from
the runtime_force_resume() call as per above. This leaves
the device in a suspended state, leading to bad behaviour
later when the device is used. The following debug
print is made with an extra printg patch but illustrates
the problem:
[ 17.040832] bh1780 2-0029: parent (i2c-2) is not active
parent->power.ignore_children = 0
[ 17.040832] bh1780 2-0029: pm_runtime_force_resume:
pm_runtime_set_active() failed (-16)
[ 17.040863] dpm_run_callback():
pm_runtime_force_resume+0x0/0x88 returns -16
[ 17.040863] PM: Device 2-0029 failed to resume: error -16
Fix this by letting all struct i2c_adapter:s ignore their
children: i2c children have no business doing keeping
their parents awake: they are completely autonomous
devices that just use their parent to talk, a usecase
which must be power managed in the host on a per-message
basis.

Jan reported this:
===
After enabling CONFIG_I2C_DEBUG_CORE my system was broken
(no network, console login not possible). System log was
flooded with the this message:
...
[ 608.052077] rtc-ds1307 0-0068: uevent
[ 608.052500] rtc-ds1307 0-0068: uevent
[ 608.052925] rtc-ds1307 0-0068: uevent
...
The culprit is the dev_dbg printk in the i2c uevent handler.
If this is activated (for instance by CONFIG_I2C_DEBUG_CORE)
it results in an endless loop with systemd-journald.
This happens if user-space scans the system log and reads the uevent
file to get information about a newly created device, which seems fair
use to me. Unfortunately reading the "uevent" file uses the same
function that runs for creating the uevent for a new device,
generating the next syslog entry.
Ideally user-space would implement a recursion detection and
after reading the same device file for the 1000th time call it a
day, but nevertheless I think we should avoid this problem by
removing the debug print completely or using another print variant.
The same problem seems to be reported here:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=76886
===
His patch converted the message to pr_debug, but I think the debug can
simply go. We have other means to see code paths these days. This
enables us to clean up the function some more while we are here.

"Mostly usual driver updates and improvements. The changelog should

The octeon changes were applied pretty recently before the merge
window. I am aware. They are the first (and relatively simple)
patches of a larger overhaul to this driver. In case something goes
wrong with them, they are easy to fix (or revert). The advantage I
see is that they are out of the way, and I can concentrate on the next
block of patches. I really would like to apply the overhaul in
smaller batches to avoid regressions. And waiting a cycle for the
introductory patches seemed too much of a delay for me"
