The __init annotation makes the ks_pcie_probe() function disappear after
booting completes. However a device can also be bound later. In that case,
we try to call ks_pcie_probe(), but the backing memory is likely already
overwritten.
The right thing to do is do always have the probe callback available. Note
that the (wrong) __refdata annotation prevented this issue to be noticed by
modpost.

still get unbound, e.g via sysfs. Then no cleanup code is run resulting in
resource leaks or worse.
The right thing to do is do always have the remove callback available.
Note that this driver cannot be compiled as a module, so ks_pcie_remove()
was always discarded before this change and modpost couldn't warn about
this issue. Furthermore the __ref annotation also prevents a warning.

Select VGA devices in vga_arb_device_init() and pci_notify() instead of in
vga_arbiter_add_pci_device().
This is a trivial optimization for adding devices. It's a bigger
optimization for the removal case because pci_notify() won't call

The AMD VanGogh SoC contains a DesignWare USB3 Dual-Role Device that can be
operated as either a USB Host or a USB Device, similar to on the AMD Nolan
platform.
be6646bfba ("PCI: Prevent xHCI driver from claiming AMD Nolan USB3 DRD
device") added a quirk to let the dwc3 driver claim the Nolan device since
it provides more specific support.
Extend that quirk to include the VanGogh SoC USB3 device.

The struct cdns_plat_pcie contains a member called is_rc that is not
being used beyond being assigned a value within the cdns_plat_pcie_probe()
function, which is then not used for anything.
Thus, drop is_rc from the struct cdns_plat_pcie, especially since there
already is an is_rc member within the struct cdns_plat_pcie_of_data that
is actively used to convey information about the PCIe controller mode.

Since commit 636b21b501 ("PCI: Revoke mappings like devmem"), mmappable
sysfs entries have started to receive their f_mapping from the iomem
pseudo filesystem, so that CONFIG_IO_STRICT_DEVMEM is honored in sysfs
(and procfs) as well as in /dev/[k]mem.
This resulted in a userspace-visible regression:
1. Open a sysfs PCI resource file (eg. /sys/bus/pci/devices/*/resource0)
2. Use lseek(fd, 0, SEEK_END) to determine its size
Expected result: a PCI region size is returned.
Actual result: 0 is returned.
The reason is that PCI resource files residing in sysfs use
generic_file_llseek(), which relies on f_mapping->host inode to get the
file size. As f_mapping is now redefined, f_mapping->host points to an
anonymous zero-sized iomem_inode which has nothing to do with sysfs file
in question.
Implement a custom llseek method for sysfs PCI resources, which is
almost the same as proc_bus_pci_lseek() used for procfs entries.
This makes sysfs and procfs entries consistent with regards to seeking,
but also introduces userspace-visible changes to seeking PCI resources
in sysfs:
- SEEK_DATA and SEEK_HOLE are no longer supported;
- Seeking past the end of the file is prohibited while previously
offsets up to MAX_NON_LFS were accepted (reading from these offsets
was always invalid).

Struct dev_pagemap is a flexible structure, which means that it contains a
flexible-array member. If dev_pagemap.nr_range > 1, the memory following
the dev_pagemap could be overwritten.
This is currently not an issue because pci_p2pdma_pagemap is not exposed
outside p2pdma.c, and p2pdma.c only sets dev_pagemap.nr_range to 1.
To prevent problems if p2pdma.c ever uses nr_range > 1, move the flexible
struct dev_pagemap to the end of struct pci_p2pdma_pagemap.
-Wflex-array-member-not-at-end is coming in GCC-14, and we are getting
ready to enable it globally.

vmd_domain_reset() attempts to find whether the device may contain multiple
functions by checking 0x80 (Multi-Function Device), however, the hdr_type
variable has already been masked with PCI_HEADER_TYPE_MASK so the check can
never true.

struct pci_dev contains two flags which govern whether the device may
suspend to D3cold:
* no_d3cold provides an opt-out for drivers (e.g. if a device is known
to not wake from D3cold)
* d3cold_allowed provides an opt-out for user space (default is true,
user space may set to false)
Since commit 9d26d3a8f1 ("PCI: Put PCIe ports into D3 during suspend"),
the user space setting overwrites the driver setting. Essentially user
space is trusted to know better than the driver whether D3cold is
working.
That feels unsafe and wrong. Assume that the change was introduced
inadvertently and do not overwrite no_d3cold when d3cold_allowed is
modified. Instead, consider d3cold_allowed in addition to no_d3cold
when choosing a suspend state for the device.
That way, user space may opt out of D3cold if the driver hasn't, but it
may no longer force an opt in if the driver has opted out.

Mark Blakeney reported that when suspending system with a Thunderbolt
dock connected and then unplugging the dock before resume (which is
pretty normal flow with laptops), resuming takes long time.
What happens is that the PCIe link from the root port to the PCIe switch
inside the Thunderbolt device does not train (as expected, the link is
unplugged):

This ends up slowing down the resume time considerably. For this reason
mark these devices as disconnected if the link above them did not train
properly.

of_pci_prop_intr_map() uses uninitialized addr_sz[] values if
of_irq_parse_raw() fails, which leads to intermittent crashes.
Clear addr_sz[] before use so we never use uninitialized elements.
If no valid IRQs are parsed, don't bother adding the interrupt-map
property.

PARF_SLV_ADDR_SPACE_SIZE_2_3_3 is used by qcom_pcie_post_init_2_3_3().
This PCIe slave address space size register offset is 0x358 but was
incorrectly changed to 0x16c by 39171b33f6 ("PCI: qcom: Remove PCIE20_
prefix from register definitions").
This prevented access to slave address space registers like iATU, etc.,
so the IPQ8074 PCIe controller was not enumerated.
Revert back to the correct 0x358 offset and remove the unused
PARF_SLV_ADDR_SPACE_SIZE_2_3_3.

There is no function to get all PCI devices in a system by matching
against the base class code only, ignoring the sub-class code and
the programming interface. Add pci_get_base_class() to suit the
need.
For example, if a driver wants to process all PCI display devices in
a system, it can do so like this:

Commit ac91e69805 ("PCI: Unify delay handling for reset and resume")
shortened an unconditional 1 sec delay after a Secondary Bus Reset to 100
msec for PCIe (per PCIe r6.1 sec 6.6.1). The 1 sec delay is only required
for Conventional PCI.
But it turns out that there are PCIe devices which require a longer delay
than prescribed before first config space access after reset recovery or
resume from D3cold:
Chad reports that a "VideoPropulsion Torrent QN16e" MPEG QAM Modulator
"raises a PCI system error (PERR), as reported by the IPMI event log, and
the hardware itself would suffer a catastrophic event, cycling the server"
unless the longer delay is observed.
The card is specified to conform to PCIe r1.0 and indeed only supports Gen1
speed (2.5 GT/s) according to lspci. PCIe r1.0 sec 7.6 prescribes the same
100 msec delay as PCIe r6.1 sec 6.6.1:
To allow components to perform internal initialization, system software
must wait for at least 100 ms from the end of a reset (cold/warm/hot)
before it is permitted to issue Configuration Requests
The behavior of the Torrent QN16e card thus appears to be a quirk. Treat
it as such and lengthen the reset delay for this specific device.

ghes_handle_aer() passes AER data to the PCI core for logging and
recovery by calling aer_recover_queue() with a pointer to struct
aer_capability_regs.
The problem was that aer_recover_queue() queues the pointer directly
without copying the aer_capability_regs data. The pointer was to
the ghes->estatus buffer, which could be reused before
aer_recover_work_func() reads the data.
To avoid this problem, allocate a new aer_capability_regs structure
from the ghes_estatus_pool, copy the AER data from the ghes->estatus
buffer into it, pass a pointer to the new struct to
aer_recover_queue(), and free it after aer_recover_work_func() has
processed it.

The if-statement within the vmd_resume() function has an inconsistent
indentation that leads to a compile time warning.
Thus, correct the inconsistent indentation. While at it, remove the
if-statement completely, which will make the code simpler.
This was detected by Smatch:

The Itanium architecture is obsolete, and an informal survey [0] reveals
that any residual use of Itanium hardware in production is mostly HP-UX
or OpenVMS based. The use of Linux on Itanium appears to be limited to
enthusiasts that occasionally boot a fresh Linux kernel to see whether
things are still working as intended, and perhaps to churn out some
distro packages that are rarely used in practice.
None of the original companies behind Itanium still produce or support
any hardware or software for the architecture, and it is listed as
'Orphaned' in the MAINTAINERS file, as apparently, none of the engineers
that contributed on behalf of those companies (nor anyone else, for that
matter) have been willing to support or maintain the architecture
upstream or even be responsible for applying the odd fix. The Intel
firmware team removed all IA-64 support from the Tianocore/EDK2
reference implementation of EFI in 2018. (Itanium is the original
architecture for which EFI was developed, and the way Linux supports it
deviates significantly from other architectures.) Some distros, such as
Debian and Gentoo, still maintain [unofficial] ia64 ports, but many have
dropped support years ago.
While the argument is being made [1] that there is a 'for the common
good' angle to being able to build and run existing projects such as the
Grid Community Toolkit [2] on Itanium for interoperability testing, the
fact remains that none of those projects are known to be deployed on
Linux/ia64, and very few people actually have access to such a system in
the first place. Even if there were ways imaginable in which Linux/ia64
could be put to good use today, what matters is whether anyone is
actually doing that, and this does not appear to be the case.
There are no emulators widely available, and so boot testing Itanium is
generally infeasible for ordinary contributors. GCC still supports IA-64
but its compile farm [3] no longer has any IA-64 machines. GLIBC would
like to get rid of IA-64 [4] too because it would permit some overdue
code cleanups. In summary, the benefits to the ecosystem of having IA-64
be part of it are mostly theoretical, whereas the maintenance overhead
of keeping it supported is real.
So let's rip off the band aid, and remove the IA-64 arch code entirely.
This follows the timeline proposed by the Debian/ia64 maintainer [5],
which removes support in a controlled manner, leaving IA-64 in a known
good state in the most recent LTS release. Other projects will follow
once the kernel support is removed.

d5af729dc2 ("PCI: Mark NVIDIA T4 GPUs to avoid bus reset") avoided
Secondary Bus Reset on the T4 because the reset seemed to not work when the
T4 was directly attached to a Root Port.
But NVIDIA thinks the issue is probably related to some issue with the Root
Port, not with the T4. The T4 provides neither PM nor FLR reset, so
masking bus reset compromises this device for assignment scenarios.
Revert d5af729dc2 as requested by Wu Zongyong. This will leave SBR
broken in the specific configuration Wu tested, as it was in v6.5, so Wu
will debug that further.

Sometimes, the Qcom PCIe EP controller can receive some interrupts
unknown to the driver, like safety interrupts in newer SoCs. In those
cases, if the driver doesn't clear the interrupts, it will end up in an
interrupt storm. However, the users will not know about it because the
log is treated as a debug message.
So let's treat the unknown event log as an error so that it at least
makes the user aware, thereby getting fixed eventually.

For transfers below 4K, let's use iATU since using eDMA for such small
transfers is inefficient.
This is mainly because setting up an eDMA transfer and waiting for
completion adds some latency. This latency is negligible for large
transfers but not for the smaller ones.
With using iATU, there is an increase in ~50Mbps throughput on both MHI
UL (Uplink) and DL (Downlink) channels.

Add support for Qualcomm Snapdragon SM8450 SoC to the EPF driver. SM8450
has the dedicated PID (0x0306) and supports eDMA. Currently, it has no
fixed PCI class, so it is being advertised as "PCI_CLASS_OTHERS".

Add support for Embedded DMA (eDMA) available in the DesignWare PCIe IP
to transfer the MHI buffers between the host and the endpoint. The eDMA
use helps achieve greater throughput as the transfers are offloaded from
CPUs.
For differentiating the iATU and eDMA APIs, the pci_epf_mhi_{read/write}
APIs are renamed to pci_epf_mhi_iatu_{read/write} and separate eDMA
specific APIs pci_epf_mhi_edma_{read/write} are introduced.
Platforms that require eDMA support can pass the MHI_EPF_USE_DMA flag
through pci_epf_mhi_ep_info.

Qualcomm PCIe Endpoint controllers have the in-built Embedded DMA (eDMA)
peripheral for offloading the data transfer between the PCIe bus and
memory.
Let's add support for it by enabling the eDMA IRQ in the driver. The
eDMA DMA Engine driver will handle the rest of the functionality.
Since the eDMA on Qualcomm platforms only uses a single IRQ for all
channels, use 1 for edma.nr_irqs.

For a device with no Power Management Capability, pci_power_up() previously
returned 0 (success) if the platform was able to put the device in D0,
which led to pci_set_full_power_state() trying to read PCI_PM_CTRL, even
though it doesn't exist.
Since dev->pm_cap == 0 in this case, pci_set_full_power_state() actually
read the wrong register, interpreted it as PCI_PM_CTRL, and corrupted
dev->current_state. This led to messages like this in some cases:
pci 0000:01:00.0: Refused to change power state from D3hot to D0
To prevent this, make pci_power_up() always return a negative failure code
if the device lacks a Power Management Capability, even if non-PCI platform
power management has been able to put the device in D0. The failure will
prevent pci_set_full_power_state() from trying to access PCI_PM_CTRL.

ACPI Platform Error Interfaces (APEI) convey error information to the OS.
If the APEI GHES driver receives information about PCI errors, it queues it
in aer_recover_ring for processing by the PCI AER code.
AER_RECOVER_RING_SIZE is the size of the aer_recover_ring FIFO and is
arbitrary, with no direct connection to hardware.
AER_RECOVER_RING_ORDER was only used to compute AER_RECOVER_RING_SIZE.
Remove it and define AER_RECOVER_RING_SIZE directly. No functional change
intended.

The current PCIe driver assumes PERST# is asserted when probe() is invoked.
Some older versions of the 2711/RPi bootloader left PERST# unasserted, as
the Raspian OS does assert PERST# on probe(). For this reason, we assert
PERST# for BCM2711 SOCs (i.e. RPi).

The iMSI-RX module of the DW PCIe controller provides multiple sets of
MSI_CTRL_INT_i_* registers, and each set is capable of handling 32 MSI
interrupts. However, the fu740 PCIe controller driver only enabled one set
of MSI_CTRL_INT_i_* registers, as the total number of supported interrupts
was not specified.
Set the supported number of MSI vectors to enable all the MSI_CTRL_INT_i_*
registers on the fu740 PCIe core, allowing the system to fully utilize the
available MSI interrupts.

The Xilinx Alveo U50 PCI card exposes multiple hardware peripherals on
its PCI BAR. The card firmware provides a flattened device tree to
describe the hardware peripherals on its BARs. This allows U50 driver to
load the flattened device tree and generate the device tree node for
hardware peripherals underneath.
To generate device tree node for U50 card, add PCI quirks to call
of_pci_make_dev_node() for U50.

The PCI endpoint device such as Xilinx Alveo PCI card maps the register
spaces from multiple hardware peripherals to its PCI BAR. Normally,
the PCI core discovers devices and BARs using the PCI enumeration process.
There is no infrastructure to discover the hardware peripherals that are
present in a PCI device, and which can be accessed through the PCI BARs.
Apparently, the device tree framework requires a device tree node for the
PCI device. Thus, it can generate the device tree nodes for hardware
peripherals underneath. Because PCI is self discoverable bus, there might
not be a device tree node created for PCI devices. Furthermore, if the PCI
device is hot pluggable, when it is plugged in, the device tree nodes for
its parent bridges are required. Add support to generate device tree node
for PCI bridges.
Add an of_pci_make_dev_node() interface that can be used to create device
tree node for PCI devices.
Add a PCI_DYNAMIC_OF_NODES config option. When the option is turned on,
the kernel will generate device tree nodes for PCI bridges unconditionally.
Initially, add the basic properties for the dynamically generated device
tree nodes which include #address-cells, #size-cells, device_type,
compatible, ranges, reg.

When a Linux VM with an assigned PCI device runs on Hyper-V, if the PCI
device driver is not loaded yet (i.e. MSI-X/MSI is not enabled on the
device yet), doing a VM hibernation triggers a panic in
hv_pci_restore_msi_msg() -> msi_lock_descs(&pdev->dev), because
pdev->dev.msi.data is still NULL.
Avoid the panic by checking if MSI-X/MSI is enabled.

During domain reset process vmd_domain_reset() clears PCI
configuration space of VMD root ports. But certain platform

The root cause is that memset_io() clears prefetchable memory base/limit
registers and prefetchable base/limit 32 bits registers sequentially.
This seems to be enabling prefetchable memory if the device disabled
prefetchable memory originally.

So, prefetchable memory is ffffffff00000000-575000fffff, which is
disabled. When memset_io() clears prefetchable base 32 bits register,
the prefetchable memory becomes 0000000000000000-575000fffff, which is
enabled and incorrect.
Here is the quote from section 7.5.1.3.9 of PCI Express Base 6.0 spec:
The Prefetchable Memory Limit register must be programmed to a smaller
value than the Prefetchable Memory Base register if there is no
prefetchable memory on the secondary side of the bridge.
This is believed to be the reason for the failure and in addition the
sequence of operation in vmd_domain_reset() is not following the PCIe
specs.
Disable the bridge window by executing a sequence of operations
borrowed from pci_disable_bridge_window() and pci_setup_bridge_io(),
that comply with the PCI specifications.

When certain PHB HW failure causes pHyp to recover PHB, it marks the PE
state as temporarily unavailable until recovery is complete. This also
triggers an EEH handler in Linux which needs to notify drivers, and perform
recovery. But before notifying the driver about the PCI error it uses
get_adapter_status()->rpaphp_get_sensor_state()->rtas_call(get-sensor-state)
operation of the hotplug_slot to determine if the slot contains a device or
not. If the slot is empty, the recovery is skipped entirely.

However on certain PHB failures, the RTAS call rtas_call(get-sensor-state)
returns extended busy error (9902) until PHB is recovered by pHyp. Once PHB
is recovered, the rtas_call(get-sensor-state) returns success with correct
presence status. The RTAS call interface rtas_get_sensor() loops over the
RTAS call on extended delay return code (9902) until the return value is
either success (0) or error (-1). This causes the EEH handler to get stuck
for ~6 seconds before it could notify that the PCI error has been detected
and stop any active operations. Hence with running I/O traffic, during this
6 seconds, the network driver continues its operation and hits a timeout
(netdev watchdog).

On timeouts, network driver starts dumping debug information to console
(e.g bnx2 driver calls bnx2x_panic_dump()), and go into recovery path while
pHyp is still recovering the PHB. As part of recovery, the driver tries to
reset the device and it keeps failing since every PCI read/write returns
ff's. And when EEH recovery kicks-in, the driver is unable to recover the
device. This impacts the ssh connection and leads to the system being
inaccessible. To get the NIC working again it needs a reboot or re-assign
the I/O adapter from HMC.

Hence, it becomes important to inform driver about the PCI error detection
as early as possible, so that driver is aware of PCI error and waits for
EEH handler's next action for successful recovery.
Current implementation uses rtas_get_sensor() API which blocks the slot
check state until RTAS call returns success. To avoid this, fix the PCI
hotplug driver (rpaphp) to return an error (-EBUSY) if the slot presence
state can not be detected immediately while PE is in EEH recovery state.
Change rpaphp_get_sensor_state() to invoke rtas_call(get-sensor-state)
directly only if the respective PE is in EEH recovery state, and take
actions based on RTAS return status. This way EEH handler will not be
blocked on rpaphp_get_sensor_state() and can immediately notify driver
about the PCI error and stop any active operations.
In normal cases (non-EEH case) rpaphp_get_sensor_state() will continue to
invoke rtas_get_sensor() as it was earlier with no change in existing
behavior.

Testing that a device is not currently in a low power state provides no
guarantees that the device is not imminently transitioning to such a state.
Increment the PM usage counter before accessing the device. Since we don't
wish to wake the device for PME polling, do so only if the device is
already active by using pm_runtime_get_if_active().

Unlike default access to config space through sysfs, the VPD read and write
functions don't actively manage the runtime power management state of the
device during access. Since commit 7ab5e10eda ("vfio/pci: Move the
unused device into low power state with runtime PM"), the vfio-pci driver
will use runtime power management and release unused devices to make use of
low power states. Attempting to access VPD information in D3cold can
result in incorrect information or kernel crashes depending on the system
behavior.
Wrap the VPD read/write bin attribute handlers in runtime PM and take into
account the potential quirk to select the correct device to wake.

Don't assume that the device is fully under the control of ASPM and use RMW
capability accessors which do proper locking to avoid losing concurrent
updates to the register values.
If configuration fails in pcie_aspm_configure_common_clock(), the
function attempts to restore the old PCI_EXP_LNKCTL_CCC settings. Store
only the old PCI_EXP_LNKCTL_CCC bit for the relevant devices rather
than the content of the whole LNKCTL registers. It aligns better with
how pcie_lnkctl_clear_and_set() expects its parameter and makes the
code more obvious to understand.

Many places in the kernel write the Link Control and Root Control PCI
Express Capability Registers without proper concurrency control and this
could result in losing the changes one of the writers intended to make.
Add pcie_cap_lock spinlock into the struct pci_dev and use it to protect
bit changes made in the RMW capability accessors. Protect only a selected
set of registers by differentiating the RMW accessor internally to
locked/unlocked variants using a wrapper which has the same signature as
pcie_capability_clear_and_set_word(). As the Capability Register (pos)
given to the wrapper is always a constant, the compiler should be able to
simplify all the dead-code away.
So far only the Link Control Register (ASPM, hotplug, link retraining,
various drivers) and the Root Control Register (AER & PME) seem to
require RMW locking.

The blamed commit has broken probing on
arch/arm64/boot/dts/freescale/fsl-ls1028a.dtsi when &enetc_port0
(PCI function 0) has status = "disabled".
Background: pci_scan_slot() has logic to say that if the function 0 of a
device is absent, the entire device is absent and we can skip the other
functions entirely. Traditionally, this has meant that
pci_bus_read_dev_vendor_id() returns an error code for that function.
However, since the blamed commit, there is an extra confounding
condition: function 0 of the device exists and has a valid vendor id,
but it is disabled in the device tree. In that case, pci_scan_slot()
would incorrectly skip the entire device instead of just that function.
In the case of NXP LS1028A, status = "disabled" does not mean that the
PCI function's config space is not available for reading. It is, but the
Ethernet port is just not functionally useful with a particular SerDes
protocol configuration (0x9999) due to pinmuxing constraints of the Soc.
So, pci_scan_slot() skips all other functions on the ENETC ECAM
(enetc_port1, enetc_port2, enetc_mdio_pf3 etc) when just enetc_port0 had
to not be probed.
There is an additional regression introduced by the change, caused by
its fundamental premise. The enetc driver needs to run code for all PCI
functions, regardless of whether they're enabled or not in the device
tree. That is no longer possible if the driver's probe function is no
longer called. But Rob recommends that we move the of_device_is_available()
detection to dev->match_driver, and this makes the PCI fixups still run
on all functions, while just probing drivers for those functions that
are enabled. So, a separate change in the enetc driver will have to move
the workarounds to a PCI fixup.

changed acpiphp hotplug to use pci_assign_unassigned_bridge_resources()
which depends on bridge being available, however enable_slot() can be
called without bridge associated:
1. Legitimate case of hotplug on root bus (widely used in virt world)
2. A (misbehaving) firmware, that sends ACPI Bus Check notifications to
non existing root ports (Dell Inspiron 7352/0W6WV0), which end up at
enable_slot(..., bridge = 0) where bus has no bridge assigned to it.
acpihp doesn't know that it's a bridge, and bus specific 'PCI
subsystem' can't augment ACPI context with bridge information since
the PCI device to get this data from is/was not available.
Issue is easy to reproduce with QEMU's 'pc' machine, which supports PCI
hotplug on hostbridge slots. To reproduce, boot kernel at commit
40613da52b in VM started with following CLI (assuming guest root fs is
installed on sda1 partition):

The issue was discovered on Dell Inspiron 7352/0W6WV0 laptop with following
sequence:
1. Suspend to RAM
2. Wake up with the same backtrace being observed:

Fix it by using __pci_bus_assign_resources() instead of
pci_assign_unassigned_bridge_resources() as we used to do, but only in case
when bus doesn't have a bridge associated (to cover for the case of ACPI
event on hostbridge or non existing root port).
That lets us keep hotplug on root bus working like it used to and at the
same time keeps resource reassignment usable on root ports (and other 1st
level bridges) that was fixed by 40613da52b.

The i.MX integration for the DesignWare PCI controller has a _host_exit()
operation which undoes everything that the _host_init() operation does but
does not wire this up as the host_deinit callback for the core, or call it
in any path other than suspend. This means that if we ever unwind the
initial probe of the device, for example because it fails, the regulator
core complains that the regulators for the device were left enabled:

Continuing to use pci_host_common_probe() for the PCIe Root Complex on
PolarFire SoC is leading to an extremely large _init() function and some
unnatural code flow. Re-partition the code so that some tasks are done
in a _probe() routine, which calls pci_host_common_probe() and then use
a much smaller _init() function, mainly to enable interrupts after
address translation tables are set up.

The PCIe Root Complex on PolarFire SoC is configured at bitstream creation
time using Libero. Key MSI-related parameters include the number of
MSIs (1/2/4/8/16/32) and the MSI address. In the device driver, extract
this information from hardware registers at init time, and use it to configure
MSI system, including configuring MSI capability structure correctly in
configuration space.

Refactor interrupt handling in _init() function into
disable_interrupts(), init_interrupts(), clear_sec_errors() and clear
ded_errors() because current code is unwieldy and prone to bugs.
Disable interrupts as soon as possible and only enable interrupts after
address translation is setup to prevent spurious axi2pcie and pcie2axi
translation errors being reported.

Enable building driver as a module. The expected use case is the
driver is built as a module, is installed when needed, and cannot be
removed once installed since it is not possible to clean-up
the irq_chip data structures on removal, as described in:

The SEC and DED interrupt bits are laid out the wrong way round so the SEC
interrupt handler attempts to mask, unmask, and clear the DED interrupt
and vice versa. Correct the bit offsets so that each interrupt handler
operates properly.

After commit 4fb8e46c1b ("PCI: tegra194: Enable support for 256 Byte
payload"), we initialize MPS=256 for tegra194 Root Ports before enumerating
the hierarchy.
Consider an Endpoint that supports only MPS=128. In the default situation
(CONFIG_PCIE_BUS_DEFAULT set and no "pci=pcie_bus_*" parameter), Linux
tries to configure the MPS of every device to match the upstream bridge.
If the Endpoint is directly below the Root Port, Linux can reduce the Root
Port MPS to 128 to match the Endpoint. But if there's a switch in the
middle, Linux doesn't reduce the Root Port MPS because other devices below
the switch may already be configured with MPS larger than 128.
This scenario results in uncorrectable Malformed TLP errors if the Root
Port sends TLPs with payloads larger than 128 bytes. These errors can
be avoided by using the "pci=pcie_bus_safe" parameter, but it doesn't
seem to be a good idea to always have this parameter even for basic
functionality to work.
Revert commit 4fb8e46c1b ("PCI: tegra194: Enable support for 256 Byte
payload") so the Root Ports default to MPS=128, which all devices
support.
If peer-to-peer DMA is not required, one can use "pci=pcie_bus_perf" to
get the benefit of larger MPS settings.

This occurs because destroy_work_on_stack() was called after signaling
the completion in the calling thread. This creates a race between
destroy_work_on_stack() and the task->work struct going out of scope in
pci_doe().
Signal the work complete after destroying the work struct. This is safe
because signal_task_complete() is the final thing the work item does and
the workqueue code is careful not to access the work struct after.

Bjorn Andersson, Fabio Estevam, Xiaolei Wang, and Jon Hunter reported that
da56a1bfba ("PCI: dwc: Wait for link up only if link is started") broke
controller probing by returning an error in case the link does not come up
during host initialisation, for example when the slot is empty.
As explained in commit 886a9c1347 ("PCI: dwc: Move link handling into
common code") and as indicated by the comment "Ignore errors, the link may
come up later" in the code, waiting for link up and ignoring errors is the
intended behaviour:
Let's standardize this to succeed as there are usecases where devices
(and the link) appear later even without hotplug. For example, a
reconfigured FPGA device.
Reverting the offending commit specifically fixes a regression on Qualcomm
platforms like the Lenovo ThinkPad X13s which no longer reach the
interconnect sync state if a slot does not have a device populated (e.g. an
optional modem).
Note that enabling asynchronous probing by default as was done for Qualcomm
platforms by commit c0e1eb441b ("PCI: qcom: Enable async probe by
default"), should take care of any related boot time concerns.
Finally, note that the intel-gw driver is the only driver currently not
providing a .start_link() callback and instead starts the link in its
.host_init() callback, which may avoid an additional one-second timeout
during probe by making the link-up wait conditional. If anyone cares, that
can be done in a follow-up patch with a proper motivation.

If legacy I/O spaces are not supported simply return an error when
trying to access them via pci_resource_io(). This allows inb() and
friends to become undefined when they are known at compile time to be
non-functional in a later patch.

The DT of_device.h and of_platform.h date back to the separate
of_platform_bus_type before it as merged into the regular platform bus. As
part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they "temporarily"
include each other. They also include platform_device.h and of.h. As a
result, there's a pretty much random mix of those include files used
throughout the tree. In order to detangle these headers and replace the
implicit includes with struct declarations, users need to explicitly
include the correct includes.

A 32-bit mask was used on the 64-bit PCI address used for mapping MSIs.
This would result in the upper 32 bits being unintentionally zeroed and
MSIs getting mapped to incorrect PCI addresses if the address had any
of the upper bits set.
Replace 32-bit mask by appropriate 64-bit mask.

Currently, as part of the qcom_pcie_perst_deassert() function, instead
of writing the updated value to clear PARF_MSTR_AXI_CLK_EN, the variable
"val" is re-read.
This must be fixed to ensure that the master clock supplied to the MHI
bus is correctly gated during L1.1/L1.2 to save power.
Thus, replace the line that re-reads "val" with a line that writes the
updated value to the register to clear PARF_MSTR_AXI_CLK_EN.

The apple_pcie_setup_port() function computes ilog2(pcie->nvecs) to set
up the number of MSIs available for each port. However, it's called
before apple_msi_init(), which initializes pcie->nvecs.
Luckily, pcie->nvecs is part of kzalloc()-ed structure and, as such,
initialized as zero. ilog2(0) happens to be 0xffffffff which then simply
configures more MSIs in hardware than we have. This doesn't break
anything because we never hand out those vectors.
Thus, swap the order of the two calls so that the correctly initialized
value is then used.

As ntb_register_device() don't handle error of device_register(),
if ntb_register_device() returns error in pci_vntb_probe(), name of kobject
which is allocated in dev_set_name() called in device_add() is leaked.
As comment of device_add() says, it should call put_device() to drop the
reference count that was set in device_initialize()
when it fails, so the name can be freed in kobject_cleanup().

The ret variable in the vmd_enable_domain() function was used
uninitialized when printing a warning message upon failure of
the pci_reset_bus() function.

Currently, the EPF probe function doesn't get the device ID argument needed
to correctly identify the device table ID of the EPF device.
When multiple entries are added to the "struct pci_epf_device_id" table,
the probe function needs to identify the correct one. This is achieved by
modifying the pci_epf_match_id() function to return the match ID pointer
and passing it to the driver's probe function.
pci_epf_device_match() function can return bool based on the return value
of pci_epf_match_id().

In pci_epf_test_init_dma_chan() epf_test->dma_chan_rx is assigned from
dma_request_channel() with DMA_DEV_TO_MEM as filter.dma_mask.
However, in pci_epf_test_data_transfer() if the dir is DMA_DEV_TO_MEM,
epf->dma_chan_rx should be used but instead we are using
epf_test->dma_chan_tx.

In pci_epf_test_print_rate(), instead of open coding a reduction loop to
allow for a division by a 32-bits ns value, simply use div64_u64() to
calculate the transfer rate. To match the printed unit of KB/s, this
calculation divides the rate by 1000 instead of 1024 (that would be KiB/s
unit).
Change the format of the results printed by pci_epf_test_print_rate() to be
more compact without the double new line. Also use dev_info() instead of
pr_info().

Each of the test functions pci_epf_test_write(), pci_epf_test_read() and
pci_epf_test_copy() return an int result which is used by
pci_epf_test_cmd_handler() to set a success or error bit in the request
status.
In the spirit of keeping the processing of each test case self-contained
within its own test function, move the request status field update from
pci_epf_test_cmd_handler() to each of these test functions and change these
functions declaration to returning void.

Thus we can replace the series of "if" tests in pci_epf_test_cmd_handler()
with a cleaner switch-case statement. This also allows checking that we

The pci-epf-test driver uses the test register BAR memory directly to get
and execute a test registers set by the RC side and defined using a struct
pci_epf_test_reg. This direct use relies on using the register BAR address
as a pointer to a struct pci_epf_test_reg to execute the test case and to
send back the test result through the status field of struct
pci_epf_test_reg. In practice, the status field is always updated before an
interrupt is raised in pci_epf_test_raise_irq(), to ensure that the RC side
sees the updated status when receiving an interrupt.
However, such assignment direct access does not ensure that changes to the
status register make it to memory, and so visible to the host, before an
interrupt is raised, thus potentially resulting in the RC host not seeing
the correct status result for a test.
Avoid this potential problem by using READ_ONCE()/WRITE_ONCE() when
accessing the command and status fields of a pci_epf_test_reg structure.
This ensure that a test start (pci_epf_test_cmd_handler() function) and
completion (with the function pci_epf_test_raise_irq()) achieve a correct
synchronization with the MMIO register accesses on the RC host.

For the commands COMMAND_RAISE_LEGACY_IRQ, COMMAND_RAISE_MSI_IRQ and
COMMAND_RAISE_MSIX_IRQ, the function pci_epf_test_cmd_handler()
sets the STATUS_IRQ_RAISED status flag and calls the epc function
pci_epc_raise_irq() directly. However, this is also exactly what the
pci_epf_test_raise_irq() function does. Avoid duplicating these
operations by directly using pci_epf_test_raise_irq() for the IRQ test
commands. It is OK to do so as the host side endpoint test driver always
set the correct IRQ type for the IRQ test commands.
At the same time, move the IRQ number check done for the
COMMAND_RAISE_MSI_IRQ and COMMAND_RAISE_MSIX_IRQ commands
to pci_epf_test_raise_irq(), to also check the IRQ number requested
by the host for other test commands.
This significantly simplifies pci_epf_test_cmd_handler().

Change the interface of the function pci_epf_test_raise_irq() to directly
pass a pointer to the struct pci_epf_test_reg defining the test being
executed. This avoids the need for grabbing this pointer using the register
BAR address and simplifies the call sites as the IRQ type and IRQ numbers
do not have to be passed as arguments.

The function pci_epf_test_cmd_handler() uses the register BAR address as a
pointer to a struct pci_epf_test_reg to determine the command sent by the
host and to execute the test function accordingly. There is no need for
doing this assignment again in each of the read, write and copy test
functions. We can simply pass the reg pointer as an argument to the
functions pci_epf_test_write(), pci_epf_test_read() and
pci_epf_test_copy().

pci_epf_test_data_transfer() and pci_epf_test_dma_callback() are not
handling DMA transfer completion correctly, leading to completion
notifications to the RC side that are too early. This problem can be
detected when the RC side is running an IOMMU with messages such as:
pci-endpoint-test 0000:0b:00.0: AMD-Vi: Event logged [IO_PAGE_FAULT domain=0x001c address=0xfff00000 flags=0x0000]
When running the pcitest.sh tests: the address used for a previous
test transfer generates the above error while the next test transfer is
running.
Fix this by testing the DMA transfer status in pci_epf_test_dma_callback()
and notifying the completion only when the transfer status is DMA_COMPLETE
or DMA_ERROR. Furthermore, in pci_epf_test_data_transfer(), be paranoid and
check again the transfer status and always call dmaengine_terminate_sync()
before returning.

A PCI endpoint function driver can define function specific attributes
under its function configfs directory using the add_cfs() endpoint driver
operation. This is done by tying up the mkdir operation for the function
configfs directory to a call to the add_cfs() operation. However, there
are no checks preventing the user from repeatedly creating function
specific attribute directories with different names, resulting in the same
endpoint specific attributes group being added multiple times, which also
result in an invalid reference counting for the attribute groups. E.g.,
using the pci-epf-ntb function driver as an example, the user creates the
function as follows:

Fix this by modifying pci_epf_cfs_work() to execute the new function
pci_ep_cfs_add_type_group() which itself calls pci_epf_type_add_cfs() to
obtain the function specific attribute group and the group name (directory
name) from the endpoint function driver. If the function driver defines an
attribute group, pci_ep_cfs_add_type_group() then proceeds to register this
group using configfs_register_group(), thus automatically exposing the
function type specific configfs attributes to the user. E.g.:

to manually create the sub-directory for the function specific attributes.

ACPI r6.5, sec 6.5.4, describes how AML is unable to access an
OperationRegion unless _REG has been called to connect a handler:
The OS runs _REG control methods to inform AML code of a change in the
availability of an operation region. When an operation region handler is
unavailable, AML cannot access data fields in that region. (Operation
region writes will be ignored and reads will return indeterminate data.)
The PCI core does not call _REG at any time, leading to the undefined
behavior mentioned in the spec.
The spec explains that _REG should be executed to indicate whether a
given region can be accessed:
Once _REG has been executed for a particular operation region, indicating
that the operation region handler is ready, a control method can access
fields in the operation region. Conversely, control methods must not
access fields in operation regions when _REG method execution has not
indicated that the operation region handler is ready.
An example included in the spec demonstrates calling _REG when devices are
turned off: "when the host controller or bridge controller is turned off
or disabled, PCI Config Space Operation Regions for child devices are
no longer available. As such, ETH0’s _REG method will be run when it
is turned off and will again be run when PCI1 is turned off."
It is reported that ASMedia PCIe GPIO controllers fail functional tests
after the system has returning from suspend (S3 or s2idle). This is because
the BIOS checks whether the OSPM has called the _REG method to determine
whether it can interact with the OperationRegion assigned to the device as
part of the other AML called for the device.
To fix this issue, call acpi_evaluate_reg() when devices are transitioning
to D3cold or D0.

Previously acpi_pci_set_power_state() assumed the requested power state was
valid (PCI_D0 ... PCI_D3cold). If a caller supplied something else, we
could index outside the state_conv[] array and pass junk to
acpi_device_set_power().
Validate the pci_power_t parameter and return -EINVAL if it's invalid.

The address translation unit of the rockchip EP controller does not use
the lower 8 bits of a PCIe-space address to map local memory. Thus we

The RK3399 PCIe endpoint controller cannot generate MSI-X IRQs.
This is documented in the RK3399 technical reference manual (TRM)
section 17.5.9 "Interrupt Support".
MSI-X capability should therefore not be advertised. Remove the
MSI-X capability by editing the capability linked-list. The
previous entry is the MSI capability, therefore get the next
entry from the MSI-X capability entry and set it as next entry
for the MSI capability. This in effect removes MSI-X from the list.

The RK3399 PCI endpoint core has 33 windows for PCIe space, now in the
driver up to 32 fixed size (1M) windows are used and pages are allocated
and mapped accordingly. The driver first used a single window and allocated
space inside which caused translation issues (between CPU space and PCI
space) because a window can only have a single translation at a given
time, which if multiple pages are allocated inside will cause conflicts.
Now each window is a single region of 1M which will always guarantee that
the translation is not in conflict.
Set the translation register addresses for physical function. As documented
in the technical reference manual (TRM) section 17.5.5 "PCIe Address
Translation" and section 17.6.8 "Address Translation Registers Description"

Fix legacy IRQ generation for RK3399 PCIe endpoint core according to
the technical reference manual (TRM). Assert and deassert legacy
interrupt (INTx) through the legacy interrupt control register
("PCIE_CLIENT_LEGACY_INT_CTRL") instead of manually generating a PCIe
message. The generation of the legacy interrupt was tested and validated
with the PCIe endpoint test driver.

The RK3399 PCIe controller should wait until the PHY PLLs are locked.
Add poll and timeout to wait for PHY PLLs to be locked. If they cannot
be locked generate error message and jump to error handler. Accessing
registers in the PHY clock domain when PLLs are not locked causes hang
The PHY PLLs status is checked through a side channel register.
This is documented in the TRM section 17.5.8.1 "PCIe Initialization
Sequence".

Assert PCI Configuration Enable bit after probe. When this bit is left to
0 in the endpoint mode, the RK3399 PCIe endpoint core will generate
configuration request retry status (CRS) messages back to the root complex.
Assert this bit after probe to allow the RK3399 PCIe endpoint core to reply
to configuration requests from the root complex.
This is documented in section 17.5.8.1.2 of the RK3399 TRM.

Write PCI Device ID (DID) to the correct register. The Device ID was not
updated through the correct register. Device ID was written to a read-only
register and therefore did not work. The Device ID is now set through the
correct register. This is documented in the RK3399 TRM section 17.6.6.1.1

PCIe r6.0.1, sec 7.5.3.7, recommends setting the link control parameters,
then waiting for the Link Training bit to be clear before setting the
Retrain Link bit.
This avoids a race where the LTSSM may not use the updated parameters if it
is already in the midst of link training because of other normal link
activity.
Wait for the Link Training bit to be clear before toggling the Retrain Link
bit to ensure that the LTSSM uses the updated link control parameters.

Request failed link recovery with any upstream PCIe bridge where a device
has not come back after reset within PCI_RESET_WAIT time. Reset the
polling interval if recovery succeeded, otherwise continue as usual.

Attempt to handle cases such as with a downstream port of the ASMedia
ASM2824 PCIe switch where link training never completes and the link
continues switching between speeds indefinitely with the data link layer
never reaching the active state.
It has been observed with a downstream port of the ASMedia ASM2824 Gen 3
switch wired to the upstream port of the Pericom PI7C9X2G304 Gen 2 switch,
using a Delock Riser Card PCI Express x1 > 2 x PCIe x1 device, P/N 41433,
wired to a SiFive HiFive Unmatched board. In this setup the switches
should negotiate a link speed of 5.0GT/s, falling back to 2.5GT/s if
necessary.
Instead the link continues oscillating between the two speeds, at the rate
of 34-35 times per second, with link training reported repeatedly active
~84% of the time. Limiting the target link speed to 2.5GT/s with the
upstream ASM2824 device makes the two switches communicate correctly.
Removing the speed restriction afterwards makes the two devices switch to
5.0GT/s then.
Make use of these observations and detect the inability to train the link
by checking for the Data Link Layer Link Active status bit being off while
the Link Bandwidth Management Status indicating that hardware has changed
the link speed or width in an attempt to correct unreliable link operation.
Restrict the speed to 2.5GT/s then with the Target Link Speed field,
request a retrain and wait 200ms for the data link to go up. If this is
successful, lift the restriction, letting the devices negotiate a higher
speed.
Also check for a 2.5GT/s speed restriction the firmware may have already
arranged and lift it too with ports of devices known to continue working
afterwards (currently only ASM2824), that already report their data link
being up.

Remove a DLLLA status bit polling loop from pcie_wait_for_link_delay() and
call almost identical code in pcie_wait_for_link_status() instead. This
reduces the lower bound on the polling interval from 10ms to 1ms, possibly
increasing the CPU load on the system in favour to reducing the wait time.

Let the caller of pcie_retrain_link() specify whether they want to use the
LT bit or the DLLLA bit of the Link Status Register to determine if link
training has completed. It is up to the caller to verify whether the use
of the DLLLA bit, the implementation of which is optional, is valid for the
device requested.

Export pcie_retrain_link() for link retrain needs outside ASPM. Struct
pcie_link_state is local to ASPM and only used by pcie_retrain_link() to
get at the associated PCI device, so change the operand and adjust the lone
call site accordingly. Document the interface. No functional change at
this point.

The post init sequence of IP v2.4.0 is same as v2.3.2. So let's reuse the
v2.3.2 sequence which now also disables hotplug capability of the
controller as it is not at all supported on any SoCs making use of this IP.

In the post init sequence of v2.9.0, write access to read only registers
are not disabled after updating the registers. Fix it by disabling the
access after register update.
While at it, let's also add a newline after existing dw_pcie_dbi_ro_wr_en()
guard function to align with rest of the driver.
