343df771e6 PCI: Fix refcount issue in pci_create_root_bus() error recovery path
After calling device_register(&bridge->dev), the bridge is reference-
counted, and it is illegal to call kfree() on it except in the release
function.

081d0fe0ef PCI/AER: Reset link for devices below Root Port or Downstream Port
When a PCIe device reports a fatal error, we reset the link leading
to it.  Previously we only did this for devices below Downstream Ports,
not for devices directly below Root Ports.

This patch changes that so we reset the link leading to devices below
Root Ports just like we do for those below Downstream Ports.

9e50a9122f PCI/AER: Move AER severity defines to aer.h
The function aer_recover_queue() is a public interface and the
severity argument uses #defines that are in the private header
pci/pcie/aer/aerdrv.h.

This patch moves the #defines from pci/pcie/aer/aerdrv.h to
include/linux/aer.h.

8d2a171f18 PCI/AER: Set dev->__aer_firmware_first only for matching devices
Previously, we always updated info->firmware_first, even for HEST entries
that didn't match the device.  Therefore, if the last HEST descriptor was
a PCIe structure that didn't match the device, we always cleared
dev->__aer_firmware_first.

8b8d2b658f PCI/AER: Don't parse HEST table for non-PCIe devices
AER is a PCIe-only capability, so there's no point in trying to match
a HEST PCIe structure with a non-PCIe device.

Previously, a HEST global AER bridge entry (type 8) could incorrectly
match *any* bridge, even a legacy PCI-PCI bridge, and a non-global
HEST entry could match a legacy PCI device.

PCI devices for SR-IOV virtual functions should only be created/
destroyed by pci_enable_sriov()/pci_disable_sriov() because special
data structures are associated with SR-IOV virtual functions.
So hide hotplug related sysfs interfaces "remove" and "rescan" for
SR-IOV virtual functions, otherwise it may cause memory leakage
and other issues.

45f0a85c82 PM / Runtime: Rework the "runtime idle" helper routine
The "runtime idle" helper routine, rpm_idle(), currently ignores
return values from .runtime_idle() callbacks executed by it.
However, it turns out that many subsystems use
pm_generic_runtime_idle() which checks the return value of the
driver's callback and executes pm_runtime_suspend() for the device
unless that value is not 0.  If that logic is moved to rpm_idle()
instead, pm_generic_runtime_idle() can be dropped and its users
will not need any .runtime_idle() callbacks any more.

Moreover, the PCI, SCSI, and SATA subsystems' .runtime_idle()
routines, pci_pm_runtime_idle(), scsi_runtime_idle(), and
ata_port_runtime_idle(), respectively, as well as a few drivers'
ones may be simplified if rpm_idle() calls rpm_suspend() after 0 has
been returned by the .runtime_idle() callback executed by it.

To reduce overall code bloat, make the changes described above.

fbf33f516b PCI: Finish SR-IOV VF setup before adding the device
Commit 4f535093cf "PCI: Put pci_dev in device tree as early as possible"
moves device registering from pci_bus_add_devices() to pci_device_add().
That causes problems for virtual functions because device_add(&virtfn->dev)
is called before setting the virtfn->is_virtfn flag, which then causes Xen
to report PCI virtual functions as PCI physical functions.

Fix it by setting virtfn->is_virtfn before calling pci_device_add().

37448adfc7 aerdrv: Move cper_print_aer() call out of interrupt context
The following warning was seen on 3.9 when a corrected PCIe error was being
handled by the AER subsystem.

WARNING: at .../drivers/pci/search.c:214 pci_get_dev_by_id+0x8a/0x90()

This occurred because a call to pci_get_domain_bus_and_slot() was added to
cper_print_pcie() to setup for the call to cper_print_aer().  The warning
showed up because cper_print_pcie() is called in an interrupt context and
pci_get* functions are not supposed to be called in that context.

The solution is to move the cper_print_aer() call out of the interrupt
context and into aer_recover_work_func() to avoid any warnings when calling
pci_get* functions.

65f6ae66a6 PCI: Allocate only as many MSI vectors as requested by driver
Because of the encoding of the "Multiple Message Capable" and "Multiple
Message Enable" fields, a device can only advertise that it's capable of a
power-of-two number of vectors, and the OS can only enable a power-of-two
number.

For example, a device that's limited internally to using 18 vectors would
have to advertise that it's capable of 32.  The 14 extra vectors consume
vector numbers and IRQ descriptors even though the device can't actually
use them.

This fix introduces a 'msi_desc::nvec_used' field to address this issue.
When non-zero, it is the actual number of MSIs the device will send, as
requested by the device driver.  This value should be used by architectures
to set up and tear down only as many interrupt resources as the device will
actually use.

Note, although the existing 'msi_desc::multiple' field might seem
redundant, in fact it is not.  The number of MSIs advertised need not be
the smallest power-of-two larger than the number of MSIs the device will
send.  Thus, it is not always possible to derive the former from the
latter, so we need to keep them both to handle this case.

3c6e6ae770 PCI: Introduce pci_alloc_dev(struct pci_bus*) to replace alloc_pci_dev()
Here we introduce a new interface to replace alloc_pci_dev():

    struct pci_dev *pci_alloc_dev(struct pci_bus *bus)

It takes a "struct pci_bus *" argument, so we can alloc a PCI device
on a target PCI bus, and it acquires a reference on the pci_bus.
We use pci_alloc_dev(NULL) to simplify the old alloc_pci_dev(),
and keep it for a while but mark it as __deprecated.

Holding a reference to the pci_bus ensures that referencing
pci_dev->bus is valid as long as the pci_dev is valid.

6eb237c41a pci: mvebu: fix the emulation of the status register
The status register of the PCI configuration space of PCI-to-PCI
bridges contain some read-only bits, and so write-1-to-clear bits. So,
the Linux PCI core sometimes writes 0xffff to this status register,
and in the current PCI-to-PCI bridge emulation code of the Marvell
driver, we do take all those 1s being written. Even the read-only bits
are being overwritten.

For now, all the read-only bits should be emulated to have the zero
value.

The other bits, that are write-1-to-clear bits are used to report
various kind of errors, and are never set by the emulated bridge, so
there is no need to support this write-1-to-clear bits mechanism.

As a conclusion, the easiest solution is to simply emulate this status
register by returning zero when read, and ignore the writes to it.

This has two visible effects:

 * The devsel is no longer 'unknown' in, i.e

   Flags: bus master, 66MHz, user-definable features, ?? devsel, latency 0

   becomes:

   Flags: bus master, 66MHz, user-definable features, fast devsel, latency 0

   in lspci -v.

   This was caused by a value of 11b being read for devsel, which is
   an invalid value. This 11b value being read was due to a previous
   write of 0xffff into the status register.

 * The capability list is no longer broken, because we indicate to the
   Linux PCI core that we don't have a Capabilities Pointer in the PCI
   configuration space of this bridge. The following message is
   therefore no longer visible in lspci -v:

   Capabilities: [fc] <chain broken>

197fc226d9 pci: mvebu: allow the enumeration of devices beyond physical bridges
Until now, the Marvell PCIe driver was only allowing the enumeration
of the devices in the secondary bus of the emulated PCI-to-PCI
bridge. This works fine when a PCIe device is directly connected into
a PCIe slot of the Marvell board.

However, when the device connected in the PCIe slot is a physical PCIe
bridge, beyond which a real PCIe device is connected, it no longer
worked, as the driver was preventing the Linux PCI core from seeing
such devices.

This commit fixes that by ensuring that configuration transactions on
subordinate busses are properly forwarded on the right PCIe interface.

Thanks to this patch, a PCIe card beyond a PCIe bridge, itself beyond
the emulated PCI-to-PCI bridge is properly detected, with the
following layout:

bridge at 09.0 allows to access the secondary bus 02, on which there
is a PCIe bridge that allows to access the 3 to 7 busses, that are
subordinates to this bridge. And on one of this bus (bus 7), there is
one real PCIe device connected.

f4ac99011e pci: mvebu: no longer fake the slot location of downstream devices
By default, the Marvell hardware, for each PCIe interface, exhibits
the following devices:

 * On slot 0, a "Marvell Memory controller", identical on all PCIe
   interfaces, and which isn't useful when the Marvell SoC is the PCIe
   root complex (i.e, the normal case when we run Linux on the Marvell
   SoC).

 * On slot 1, the real PCIe card connected into the PCIe slot of the
   board.

So, what the Marvell PCIe driver was doing in its PCI-to-PCI bridge
emulation is that when the Linux PCI core was trying to access the
device in slot 0, we were in fact forwarding the configuration
transaction to the device in slot 1. For all other slots, we were
telling the Linux PCI core that there was no device connected.

However, new versions of bootloaders from Marvell change the default
PCIe configuration, and make the real device appear in slot 0, and the
"Marvell Memory controller" in slot 1.

Therefore, this commit modifies the Marvell PCIe driver to adjust the
PCIe hardware configuration to make sure that this behavior (real
device in slot 0, "Marvell Memory controller" in slot 1) is the one
we'll see regardless of what the bootloader has done. It allows to
remove the little hack that was forwarding configuration transactions
on slot 0 to slot 1, which is nice.

bus_to_resource(0xa0000000) yields 0xa0000000 because there's no host
bridge window whose bus address range contains 0xa0000000.  But CPU
accesses to 0xa0000000 appear on the bus at 0xe0000000, so they will
not be claimed if the BAR contains 0xa0000000.

If we find a BAR where resource_to_bus(bus_to_resource(A)) != A, we can
work around this problem by reassigning the BAR.

2add0ec14c PCI/ASPM: Warn when driver asks to disable ASPM, but we can't do it
Some devices have hardware problems related to using ASPM.  Drivers for
these devices use pci_disable_link_state() to prevent their device from
entering L0s or L1.  But on platforms where the OS doesn't have permission
to manage ASPM, pci_disable_link_state() doesn't actually disable ASPM.

Windows has a similar mechanism ("PciASPMOptOut"), and when the OS doesn't
have control of ASPM, it doesn't actually disable ASPM either.

This patch just adds a warning in dmesg about the fact that
pci_disable_link_state() is doing nothing.

45361a4fe4 pci: PCIe driver for Marvell Armada 370/XP systems
This driver implements the support for the PCIe interfaces on the
Marvell Armada 370/XP ARM SoCs. In the future, it might be extended to
cover earlier families of Marvell SoCs, such as Dove, Orion and
Kirkwood.

The driver implements the hw_pci operations needed by the core ARM PCI
code to setup PCI devices and get their corresponding IRQs, and the
pci_ops operations that are used by the PCI core to read/write the
configuration space of PCI devices.

Since the PCIe interfaces of Marvell SoCs are completely separate and
not linked together in a bus, this driver sets up an emulated PCI host
bridge, with one PCI-to-PCI bridge as child for each hardware PCIe
interface.

In addition, this driver enumerates the different PCIe slots, and for
those having a device plugged in, it sets up the necessary address
decoding windows, using the mvebu-mbus driver.

3f327e39b4 PCI: acpiphp: Re-enumerate devices when host bridge receives Bus Check
When a PCI host bridge device receives a Bus Check notification, we
must re-enumerate starting with the bridge to discover changes (devices
that have been added or removed).

Prior to 668192b678 ("PCI: acpiphp: Move host bridge hotplug to
pci_root.c"), this happened in _handle_hotplug_event_bridge().  After that
commit, _handle_hotplug_event_bridge() is not installed for host bridges,
and the host bridge notify handler, _handle_hotplug_event_root() did not
re-enumerate.

This patch adds re-enumeration to _handle_hotplug_event_root().

This fixes cases where we don't notice the addition or removal of
PCI devices, e.g., the PCI-to-USB ExpressCard in the bugzilla below.

5a8eb24292 pci: Add SRIOV helper function to determine if VFs are assigned to guest
This function is meant to add a helper function that will determine if a PF
has any VFs that are currently assigned to a guest.  We currently have been
implementing this function per driver, and going forward I would like to avoid
that by making this function generic and using this helper.

v2: Removed extern from declaration of pci_vfs_assigned in pci.h and return
    0 if SR-IOV is disabled with is inline with other PCI SRIOV functions.

3d54a3160f PCI: acpiphp: Protect acpiphp data structures from concurrent updates
Now acpiphp_enumerate_slots() and acpiphp_remove_slots() may be invoked
concurrently by the PCI core, so add a bridge_mutex and reference count
mechanism to protect acpiphp bridge/slot/function data structures.

To avoid deadlock, handle_hotplug_event_bridge() will requeue the
hotplug event onto the kacpi_hotplug_wq by calling alloc_acpi_hp_work().
But the workaround has introduced a minor race window because the
'bridge' passed to _handle_hotplug_event_bridge() may have already been
destroyed when _handle_hotplug_event_bridge() is actually executed by
the kacpi_hotplug_wq.  So hold a reference count on the passed 'bridge'.
Fix the same issue for handle_hotplug_event_func() too.

545d7b78e0 PCI: Use PCI_EXP_SLTCAP_PSN mask when extracting slot number
Use PCI_EXP_SLTCAP_PSN mask to make it easier to find where the
Physical Slot Number is used.

The Physical Slot Number is bits 31:19 of the Slot Capabilities Register,
and slot_cap is a u32, so the mask is technically unnecessary, but it's
helpful for human readers.

ffaddbe8f9 PCI/PM: Make pci_pme_active() ignore devices without PME support
Make pci_pme_active() ignore devices without PME support, so that
it doesn't print the "PME enabled" or "PME disabled" debug messages
for devices that don't support PME.

So that pci_pme_active() doesn't have to check pm_cap in addition
to pme_support, make pci_pm_init() clear pme_support upfront to
make sure that it will be 0 for pm_cap equal to 0.

769ba7212f PCI/PM: Fix fallback to PCI_D0 in pci_platform_power_transition()
Commit b51306c (PCI: Set device power state to PCI_D0 for device
without native PM support) modified pci_platform_power_transition()
by adding code causing dev->current_state for devices that don't
support native PCI PM but are power-manageable by the platform to be
changed to PCI_D0 regardless of the value returned by the preceding
platform_pci_set_power_state().  In particular, that also is done
if the platform_pci_set_power_state() has been successful, which
causes the correct power state of the device set by
pci_update_current_state() in that case to be overwritten by PCI_D0.

Fix that mistake by making the fallback to PCI_D0 only happen if
the platform_pci_set_power_state() has returned an error.

3b63aaa70e PCI: acpiphp: Do not use ACPI PCI subdriver mechanism
Previously the acpiphp driver registered itself as an ACPI PCI subdriver,
so its callbacks were invoked when creating/destroying PCI root
buses to manage ACPI-based PCI hotplug slots.  But it doesn't handle
P2P bridge hotplug events, so it will cause strange behaviour if there
are hotplug slots associated with a hot-removed P2P bridge.

This patch fixes this issue by:
1) Directly hooking into PCI core to update hotplug slot devices when
   creating/destroying PCI buses through:
	pci_{add|remove}_bus() -> acpi_pci_{add|remove}_bus()
2) Getting rid of unused ACPI PCI subdriver-related code

It also cleans up unused code in the acpiphp driver.

6037a803b0 PCI: acpiphp: Convert acpiphp to be builtin only, not modular
Convert acpiphp to be builtin only, with no module option.

Previously, when HOTPLUG_PCI_ACPI=m, users could disable acpiphp by
removing the module or preventing it from loading.  That can't be done
if acpiphp is builtin statically, so this adds an "acpiphp.disable"
kernel parameter.  If a user needs to use this parameter, it is a bug,
and we want to hear about it.

5c0b04e3d9 PCI/ACPI: Handle PCI slot devices when creating/destroying PCI buses
Currently the pci_slot driver doesn't update PCI slot devices when PCI
device hotplug event happens, which may cause memory leak and returning
stale information to user.

Now the pci_slot driver has been changed as built-in driver, so invoke
PCI slot enumeration and destroy routines directly from the PCI core.
And remove ACPI PCI sub-driver related code because it isn't needed
any more.

10a9574756 PCI: Add pcibios hooks for adding and removing PCI buses
On ACPI-based platforms, the pci_slot driver creates PCI slot devices
according to information from ACPI tables by registering an ACPI PCI
subdriver.  The ACPI PCI subdriver will only be called when creating/
destroying PCI root buses, and it won't be called when hot-plugging
P2P bridges.  It may cause stale PCI slot devices after hot-removing
a P2P bridge if that bridge has associated PCI slots.  And the acpiphp
driver has the same issue too.

This patch introduces two hook points into the PCI core, which will
be invoked when creating/destroying PCI buses for PCI host and P2P
bridges.  They could be used to setup/destroy platform dependent stuff
in a unified way, both at boot time and for PCI hotplug operations.

3a0e40beef PCI: acpiphp: Remove all functions even if function 0 doesn't exist
Currently function disable_device() detects slot state by checking
existence of PCI function 0.  It's unreliable because the PCI device
for function 0 may be removed through the sysfs interface.  If that
happens, it will cause powering off a hotplug slot without destroying
all PCI devices.

On the other hand, it won't hurt us except wasting some computation
power if the check is removed, because all code of disable_device()
is self-protected.  So remove the check.

The runtime PM of PCIe ports turns out to be quite fragile, as in
some cases things work while in some other cases they don't and we
don't seem to have a good way to determine whether or not they are
going to work in advance.

For this reason, avoid enabling runtime PM for PCIe ports by
keeping their runtime PM reference counters always above 0 for the
time being.

When a PCIe port is suspended, it can no longer report events like
hotplug, so hotplug below the port may not work, as in the bug
report below.

24ad0ef9c8 PCI/ACPI: Always resume devices on ACPI wakeup notifications
It turns out that the _Lxx control methods provided by some BIOSes
clear the PME Status bit of PCI devices they handle, which means that
pci_acpi_wake_dev() cannot really use that bit to check whether or
not the device has signalled wakeup.

One symptom of the problem is, for example, that when an affected PCI
USB controller is runtime-suspended, then plugging in a new USB device
into one of the controller's ports will not wake up the controller,
which should happen.

For this reason, make pci_acpi_wake_dev() always attempt to resume
the device it is called for regardless of the device's PME Status bit
value (that bit still has to be cleared if set at this point,
though).

6e0eda3c38 PCI: Don't try to disable Bus Master on disconnected PCI devices
This is a fix for commit 7897e60227 ("PCI: Disable Bus Master
unconditionally in pci_device_shutdown()").  Vivek reported that
with this commit, kexec failed because none of his SATA disks
came up.

A ->shutdown() callback might put the device in D3cold, which means config
space is no longer available.

fffe01f7a7 PCI: Add PCI ROM helper for platform-provided ROM images
It turns out that some UEFI systems provide apparently an apparently valid
PCI ROM BAR that turns out to contain garbage, so the attempt in 547b52463
to prefer the ROM from the BAR actually breaks a different set of machines.
As Linus pointed out, the graphics drivers are probably in the best
position to make this judgement, so this basically reverts 547b52463 and
f9a37be0f and adds a new helper function. Followup patches will add support
to nouveau and radeon for probing this ROM source if they can't find a ROM
from some other source.

547b524636 PCI: Use ROM images from firmware only if no other ROM source available
Mantas Mikulėnas reported that his graphics hardware failed to
initialise after commit f9a37be0f0 ("x86: Use PCI setup data").

The aim of this commit was to ensure that ROM images were available on
some Apple systems that don't expose the GPU ROM via any other source.
In this case, UEFI appears to have provided a broken ROM image that we
were using even though there was a perfectly valid ROM available via
other sources.  The simplest way to handle this seems to be to just
re-order pci_map_rom() and leave any firmare-supplied ROM to last.

53540098b2 ACPI / glue: Add .match() callback to struct acpi_bus_type
USB uses the .find_bridge() callback from struct acpi_bus_type
incorrectly, because as a result of the way it is used by USB every
device in the system that doesn't have a bus type or parent is
passed to usb_acpi_find_device() for inspection.

What USB actually needs, though, is to call usb_acpi_find_device()
for USB ports that don't have a bus type defined, but have
usb_port_device_type as their device type, as well as for USB
devices.

To fix that replace the struct bus_type pointer in struct
acpi_bus_type used for matching devices to specific subsystems
with a .match() callback to be used for this purpose and update
the users of struct acpi_bus_type, including USB, accordingly.
Define the .match() callback routine for USB, usb_acpi_bus_match(),
in such a way that it will cover both USB devices and USB ports
and remove the now redundant .find_bridge() callback pointer from
usb_acpi_bus.

b67bfe0d42 hlist: drop the node parameter from iterators
I'm not sure why, but the hlist for each entry iterators were conceived

        list_for_each_entry(pos, head, member)

The hlist ones were greedy and wanted an extra parameter:

        hlist_for_each_entry(tpos, pos, head, member)

Why did they need an extra pos parameter? I'm not quite sure. Not only
they don't really need it, it also prevents the iterator from looking
exactly like the list iterator, which is unfortunate.

Besides the semantic patch, there was some manual work required:

 - Fix up the actual hlist iterators in linux/list.h
 - Fix up the declaration of other iterators based on the hlist ones.
 - A very small amount of places were using the 'node' parameter, this
 was modified to use 'obj->member' instead.
 - Coccinelle didn't handle the hlist_for_each_entry_safe iterator
 properly, so those had to be fixed up manually.

Previously, we cached _PRT (PCI routing table, ACPI 5.0 sec 6.2.12)
contents and associated each _PRT entry with a PCI bus number.  The bus
number association means dependencies on PCI device enumeration and bus
number assignment, as well as on the PCI/ACPI binding process.

After 4f535093cf ("PCI: Put pci_dev in device tree as early as possible"),
these dependencies caused the IRQ issues reported by Peter:

    pci 0000:00:1e.0: PCI bridge to [bus 09] (subtractive decode)
    pci 0000:00:1e.0: can't derive routing for PCI INT A
    snd_ctxfi 0000:09:02.0: PCI INT A: no GSI - using ISA IRQ 5
    irq 18: nobody cared (try booting with the "irqpoll" option)

This patch removes _PRT caching.  Instead, we evaluate _PRT as needed
in the pci_enable_device() path.  This also removes the dependency on
PCI bus numbers: we can simply look at the _PRT associated with each
bridge as we walk upstream toward the root.

Loading the pci hotplug module when no devices are present will fail
but unfortunately some hotplug callbacks stay registered to the pci
bus level. Fix this by not letting module loading fail when no pci

249bfb83cf PCI/PM: Clean up PME state when removing a device
Devices are added to pci_pme_list when drivers use pci_enable_wake()
or pci_wake_from_d3(), but they aren't removed from the list unless
the driver explicitly disables wakeup.  Many drivers never disable
wakeup, so their devices remain on the list even after they are
removed, e.g., via hotplug.  A subsequent PME poll will oops when
it tries to touch the device.

This patch disables PME# on a device before removing it, which removes
the device from pci_pme_list.  This is safe even if the device never
had PME# enabled.

This oops can be triggered by unplugging a Thunderbolt ethernet adapter
on a Macbook Pro, as reported by Daniel below.

3757b94802 ACPI / hotplug: Fix concurrency issues and memory leaks
This changeset is aimed at fixing a few different but related
problems in the ACPI hotplug infrastructure.

First of all, since notify handlers may be run in parallel with
acpi_bus_scan(), acpi_bus_trim() and acpi_bus_hot_remove_device()
and some of them are installed for ACPI handles that have no struct
acpi_device objects attached (i.e. before those objects are created),
those notify handlers have to take acpi_scan_lock to prevent races
from taking place (e.g. a struct acpi_device is found to be present
for the given ACPI handle, but right after that it is removed by
acpi_bus_trim() running in parallel to the given notify handler).
Moreover, since some of them call acpi_bus_scan() and
acpi_bus_trim(), this leads to the conclusion that acpi_scan_lock
should be acquired by the callers of these two funtions rather by
these functions themselves.

For these reasons, make all notify handlers that can handle device
addition and eject events take acpi_scan_lock and remove the
acpi_scan_lock locking from acpi_bus_scan() and acpi_bus_trim().
Accordingly, update all of their users to make sure that they
are always called under acpi_scan_lock.

Furthermore, since eject operations are carried out asynchronously
with respect to the notify events that trigger them, with the help
of acpi_bus_hot_remove_device(), even if notify handlers take the
ACPI scan lock, it still is possible that, for example,
acpi_bus_trim() will run between acpi_bus_hot_remove_device() and
the notify handler that scheduled its execution and that
acpi_bus_trim() will remove the device node passed to
acpi_bus_hot_remove_device() for ejection.  In that case, the struct
acpi_device object obtained by acpi_bus_hot_remove_device() will be
invalid and not-so-funny things will ensue.  To protect agaist that,
make the users of acpi_bus_hot_remove_device() run get_device() on
ACPI device node objects that are about to be passed to it and make
acpi_bus_hot_remove_device() run put_device() on them and check if
their ACPI handles are not NULL (make acpi_device_unregister() clear
the device nodes' ACPI handles for that check to work).

Finally, observe that acpi_os_hotplug_execute() actually can fail,
in which case its caller ought to free memory allocated for the
context object to prevent leaks from happening.  It also needs to
run put_device() on the device node that it ran get_device() on
previously in that case.  Modify the code accordingly.

7897e60227 PCI: Disable Bus Master unconditionally in pci_device_shutdown()
Commit b566a22c23 ("PCI: disable Bus Master on PCI device shutdown")
used pci_disable_device(), but that doesn't disable Bus Mastering
unconditionally; we allow nested enable/disable calls, and only the
last disable call actually does anything.

This uses pci_clear_master() to unconditionally clear the Bus Master
bit.

Matthew Garrett and Alan Cox said (see LKML link below) that clearing Bus
Master for all PCI devices may lead to unpredictable consequences: some
devices ignores this bit and continue DMA, some of them hang after that or
crash the whole system.  But we're already trying to clear Bus Master in
general because of b566a22c23; this merely deals with the cases where
drivers haven't shut down the device correctly.

to pci_root.c" has moved PCI host bridge hotplug logic from acpiphp
to pci_root, but there is still PCI host bridge hotplug related
dead code left in acpiphp. So remove those dead code.

Now companion ACPI devices are always created before corresponding
PCI devices. And the ACPI event handle_hotplug_event_bridge() will be
installed only if it has associated PCI device. So remove dead code to
handle bridge hot-adding in function handle_hotplug_event_bridge().

creating corresponding PCI devices, otherwise it will break the ACPI
PCI binding logic.

Without this patch, the /sys/bus/pci/devices/.../firmware_node symlink
is missing after hot-removing and hot-adding a device with acpiphp.

On PCI bus hotplug removal, pcie_aspm_exit_link_state() can potentially
skip parent devices that have link_state allocated.  Instead of exiting
early if a given device is not PCIe, check whether or not the device's
parent has link_state allocated.  This enables pcie_aspm_exit_link_state()
to properly clean up parent link_state when the last function in a slot
might not be PCIe.

4f535093cf PCI: Put pci_dev in device tree as early as possible
We want to put pci_dev structs in the device tree as soon as possible so
for_each_pci_dev() iteration will not miss them, but driver attachment
needs to be delayed until after pci_assign_unassigned_resources() to make
sure all devices have resources assigned first.

This patch moves device registering from pci_bus_add_devices() to
pci_device_add(), which happens earlier, leaving driver attachment in
pci_bus_add_devices().

It also removes unattached child bus handling in pci_bus_add_devices().
That's not needed because child bus via pci_add_new_bus() is already
in parent bus children list.

58d9a38f6f PCI: Skip attaching driver in device_add()
We want to add PCI devices to the device tree as early as possible but
delay attaching drivers.

device_add() adds a device to the device hierarchy and (via
device_attach()) attaches a matching driver and calls its .probe() method.
We want to separate adding the device to the hierarchy from attaching the
driver.

This patch does that by adding "match_driver" in struct pci_dev.  When
false, we return failure from pci_bus_match(), which makes device_attach()
believe there's no matching driver.

Later, we set "match_driver = true" and call device_attach() again, which
now attaches the driver and calls its .probe() method.

The acpiphp driver is confusing because it contains partial support for PCI
host bridge hotplug as well as support for hotplug of PCI devices.

This patch moves the host bridge hot-add support to pci_root.c and adds
hot-remove support in pci_root.c.

How to test it: if sci_emu patch is applied, find out root bus number to
ACPI root name mapping from dmesg or /sys.  To remove root bus:

To add back root bus:

e723f0b4f4 PCI: Make device create/destroy logic symmetric
According to device model documentation, the way to create/destroy PCI
devices should be symmetric.  The rule is to either use
  1) device_register()/device_unregister()
or
  2) device_initialize()/device_add()/device_del()/put_device().

So change PCI core logic to follow the rule and get rid of the redundant
pci_dev_get()/pci_dev_put() pair.

a3cb999dcf PCI: Add root bus children dev's res to fail list
We can stop trying according to try_number now and do not need to use
root_bus checking as stop sign.

In extreme case we could need to reallocate resource for device just
under root bus.  For PCI root bus hot-add, we need to retry to assign

1f96a965e3 PCI: acpiphp: Add is_hotplug_bridge detection
When system support hotplug bridge with children hotplug slots, we need
to make sure that parent bridge get preallocated resource so later when
device is plugged into children slot, those children devices will get
resource allocated.

We do not meet this problem, because for PCIe hotplug card, when acpiphp
is used, pci_scan_bridge will set that for us when detect hotplug bit in
slot cap.

Currently, we enumerate devices in a slot with pci_scan_slot(), then
iterate through all the devices we found by looking for functions 0-7.  But
that's wrong for ARI devices, which may have function numbers up to 255.

This means that when we hot-add an ARI device, pciehp only initializes
functions 0-7, and other functions don't work correctly.  Additionally, if
we hot-remove the device, pciehp only removes functions 0-7, leaving stale
pci_dev structures for any other functions.

This patch fixes the problem by iterating over devices in a slot by using
the upstream bridge's "bus->devices" list instead.

Currently, we enable ARI in a device's upstream bridge if the bridge and
the device support it.  But we never disable ARI, even if the device is
removed and replaced with a device that doesn't support ARI.

This means that if we hot-remove an ARI device and replace it with a
non-ARI multi-function device, we find only function 0 of the new device
because the upstream bridge still has ARI enabled, and next_ari_fn()
only returns function 0 for the new non-ARI device.

This patch disables ARI in the upstream bridge if the device doesn't
support ARI.  See the PCIe spec, r3.0, sec 6.13.

The new function pci_enable_msi_block_auto() tries to allocate
maximum possible number of MSIs up to the number the device
supports. It generalizes a pattern when pci_enable_msi_block()
is contiguously called until it succeeds or fails.

Opposite to pci_enable_msi_block() which takes the number of
MSIs to allocate as a input parameter,
pci_enable_msi_block_auto() could be used by device drivers to
obtain the number of assigned MSIs and the number of MSIs the
device supports.

The only difference between acpi_bus_scan() and acpi_bus_add() is the
invocation of acpi_update_all_gpes() in the latter which in fact is
unnecessary, because acpi_update_all_gpes() has already been called
by acpi_scan_init() and the way it is implemented guarantees the next
invocations of it to do nothing.

For this reason, drop acpi_bus_add() and make all its callers use
acpi_bus_scan() directly instead of it.  Additionally, rearrange the
code in acpi_scan_init() slightly to improve the visibility of the
acpi_update_all_gpes() call in there.

444ee9bd3d PCI: remove depends on CONFIG_EXPERIMENTAL
The CONFIG_EXPERIMENTAL config item has not carried much meaning for a
while now and is almost always enabled by default. As agreed during the
Linux kernel summit, remove it from any "depends on" lines in Kconfigs.

bc9b6407bd ACPI / PM: Rework the handling of devices depending on power resources
Commit 0090def6 (ACPI: Add interface to register/unregister device
to/from power resources) made it possible to indicate to the ACPI
core that if the given device depends on any power resources, then
it should be resumed as soon as all of the power resources required
by it to transition to the D0 power state have been turned on.

Unfortunately, however, this was a mistake, because all devices
depending on power resources should be treated this way (i.e. they
should be resumed when all power resources required by their D0
state have been turned on) and for the majority of those devices
the ACPI core can figure out by itself which (physical) devices
depend on what power resources.

For this reason, replace the code added by commit 0090def6 with a
new, much more straightforward, mechanism that will be used
internally by the ACPI core and remove all references to that code
from kernel subsystems using ACPI.

For the cases when there are (physical) devices that should be
resumed whenever a not directly related ACPI device node goes into
D0 as a result of power resources configuration changes, like in
the SATA case, add two new routines, acpi_dev_pm_add_dependent()
and acpi_dev_pm_remove_dependent(), allowing subsystems to manage
such dependencies.  Convert the SATA subsystem to use the new
functions accordingly.

9e16721498 PCI: Allow pcie_aspm=force even when FADT indicates it is unsupported
Right now using pcie_aspm=force will not enable ASPM if the FADT indicates
ASPM is unsupported.  However, the semantics of force should probably allow
for this, especially as they did before 3c076351c4 ("PCI: Rework ASPM
disable code")

This patch just skips the clearing of any ASPM setup that the firmware has
carried out on this bus if pcie_aspm=force is being used.

When we have an SHPC-capable bridge with a second SHPC-capable bridge
below it, pushing the upstream bridge's attention button causes a
deadlock.

The deadlock happens because we use the shpchp_wq workqueue to run
shpchp_pushbutton_thread(), which uses shpchp_disable_slot() to remove
devices below the upstream bridge.  When we remove the downstream bridge,
we call shpc_remove(), the shpchp driver's .remove() method.  That calls
flush_workqueue(shpchp_wq), which deadlocks because the
shpchp_pushbutton_thread() work item is still running.

This patch avoids the deadlock by creating a workqueue for every slot
and removing the single shared workqueue.

Here's the call path that leads to the deadlock:

the same change to pciehp.  I split this out from a patch by Yijing Wang
<wangyijing@huawei.com> so we fix one thing at a time and to make the
shpchp history correspond more closely with the pciehp history.

6c0cc950ae ACPI / PCI: Set root bridge ACPI handle in advance
The ACPI handles of PCI root bridges need to be known to
acpi_bind_one(), so that it can create the appropriate
"firmware_node" and "physical_node" files for them, but currently
the way it gets to know those handles is not exactly straightforward
(to put it lightly).

This is how it works, roughly:

  1. acpi_bus_scan() finds the handle of a PCI root bridge,
     creates a struct acpi_device object for it and passes that
     object to acpi_pci_root_add().

  2. acpi_pci_root_add() creates a struct acpi_pci_root object,
     populates its "device" field with its argument's address
     (device->handle is the ACPI handle found in step 1).

  3. The struct acpi_pci_root object created in step 2 is passed
     to pci_acpi_scan_root() and used to get resources that are
     passed to pci_create_root_bus().

  4. pci_create_root_bus() creates a struct pci_host_bridge object
     and passes its "dev" member to device_register().

  5. platform_notify(), which for systems with ACPI is set to
     acpi_platform_notify(), is called.

So far, so good.  Now it starts to be "interesting".

  6. acpi_find_bridge_device() is used to find the ACPI handle of
     the given device (which is the PCI root bridge) and executes
     acpi_pci_find_root_bridge(), among other things, for the
     given device object.

  7. acpi_pci_find_root_bridge() uses the name (sic!) of the given
     device object to extract the segment and bus numbers of the PCI
     root bridge and passes them to acpi_get_pci_rootbridge_handle().

  8. acpi_get_pci_rootbridge_handle() browses the list of ACPI PCI
     root bridges and finds the one that matches the given segment
     and bus numbers.  Its handle is then used to initialize the
     ACPI handle of the PCI root bridge's device object by
     acpi_bind_one().  However, this is *exactly* the ACPI handle we
     started with in step 1.

Needless to say, this is quite embarassing, but it may be avoided
thanks to commit f3fd0c8 (ACPI: Allow ACPI handles of devices to be
initialized in advance), which makes it possible to initialize the
ACPI handle of a device before passing it to device_register().

Accordingly, add a new __weak routine, pcibios_root_bridge_prepare(),
defaulting to an empty implementation that can be replaced by the
interested architecutres (x86 and ia64 at the moment) with functions
that will set the root bridge's ACPI handle before its dev member is
passed to device_register().  Make both x86 and ia64 provide such
implementations of pcibios_root_bridge_prepare() and remove
acpi_pci_find_root_bridge() and acpi_get_pci_rootbridge_handle() that
aren't necessary any more.

Included is a fix for breakage on systems with non-ACPI PCI host
bridges from Bjorn Helgaas.

1d5210008b aerdrv: Enhanced AER logging
This patch will provide a more reliable and easy way for user-space
applications to have access to AER logs rather than reading them from the
message buffer. It also provides a way to notify user-space when an AER
event occurs.

The aer driver is updated to generate a trace event of function 'aer_event'
when a PCIe error is reported over the AER interface.  The trace event was
added to both the interrupt based aer path and the firmware first path.

Currently, the ACPI wakeup capability of PCI devices is set up
in two different places, partially in acpi_pci_bind() where
runtime wakeup is initialized and partially in
platform_pci_wakeup_init(), where system wakeup is initialized.
The cleanup is only done in acpi_pci_unbind() and it only covers
runtime wakeup.

Use the new .setup() and .cleanup() callbacks in struct acpi_bus_type
to consolidate that code and do the setup and the cleanup each in one
place.

The callers of acpi_bus_add() usually assume that if it has
succeeded, then a struct acpi_device object has been attached to
the handle passed as the first argument.  Unfortunately, however,
this assumption is wrong, because acpi_bus_scan(), and acpi_bus_add()
too as a result, may return a pointer to a different struct
acpi_device object on success (it may be an object corresponding to
one of the descendant ACPI nodes in the namespace scope below that
handle).

For this reason, the callers of acpi_bus_add() who care about
whether or not a struct acpi_device object has been created for
its first argument need to check that using acpi_bus_get_device()
anyway, so the second argument of acpi_bus_add() is not really
useful for them.  The same observation applies to acpi_bus_scan()
executed directly from acpi_scan_init().

Therefore modify the relevant callers of acpi_bus_add() to check the
existence of the struct acpi_device in question with the help of
acpi_bus_get_device() and drop the no longer necessary second
argument of acpi_bus_add().  Accordingly, modify acpi_scan_init() to
use acpi_bus_get_device() to get acpi_root and drop the no longer
needed second argument of acpi_bus_scan().

02f57c67a8 ACPI: Remove acpi_start_single_object() and acpi_bus_start()
The ACPI PCI root bridge driver was the only ACPI driver implementing
the .start() callback, which isn't used by any ACPI drivers any more
now.

For this reason, acpi_start_single_object() has no purpose any more,
so remove it and all references to it.  Also remove
acpi_bus_start_device(), whose only purpose was to call
acpi_start_single_object().

Moreover, since after the removal of acpi_bus_start_device() the
only purpose of acpi_bus_start() remains to call
acpi_update_all_gpes(), move that into acpi_bus_add() and drop
acpi_bus_start() too, remove its header from acpi_bus.h and
update all of its former users accordingly.

This change was previously proposed in a different from by
Yinghai Lu.

connected to the USB3 port.  It turns out that USB3 controller failed to
awaken when plugging in the USB3 cardreader.  Further experiments found
that the USB3 host controller can only be awakened via polling, not via PME
interrupt.  But if the PCIe port to which the USB3 host controller is
connected is suspended, we cannot poll the controller because its config
space is not accessible when the PCIe port is in a low power state.

To solve the issue, the PCIe port will not be suspended if any subordinate
device needs PME polling.

faa48a507f PCI: Remove spurious error for sriov_numvfs store and simplify flow
If we request "num_vfs" and the driver's sriov_configure() method enables
exactly that number ("num_vfs_enabled"), we complain "Invalid value for
number of VFs to enable" and return an error.  We should silently return
success instead.

Also, use kstrtou16() since numVFs is defined to be a 16-bit field and
rework to simplify control flow.

 If this is too much of a pain, I can pull all of them out of this tree
 and just send you one with the other fixes/updates and then, after
 3.8-rc1 is out, do the rest of the removals to ensure we catch them all,
 it's up to you.  The merges should all be trivial, and Stephen has been
 doing them all in linux-next for a few weeks now quite easily.
 
 Other than the __dev* marking removals, there's nothing major here, some
 firmware loading updates and other minor things in the driver core.

For unbound PCI devices, what we need is:

 - Always in D0 state, because some devices do not work again after
   being put into D3 by the PCI bus.

 - In SUSPENDED state if allowed, so that the parent devices can still
   be put into low power state.

To satisfy these requirements, the runtime PM for the unbound PCI
devices are disabled and set to SUSPENDED state.  One issue of this
solution is that the PCI devices will be put into SUSPENDED state even
if the SUSPENDED state is forbidden via the sysfs interface
(.../power/control) of the device.  This is not an issue for most
devices, because most PCI devices are not used at all if unbound.
But there are exceptions.  For example, unbound VGA card can be used
for display, but suspending its parents makes it stop working.

To fix the issue, we keep the runtime PM enabled when the PCI devices
are unbound.  But the runtime PM callbacks will do nothing if the PCI
devices are unbound.  This way, we can put the PCI devices into
SUSPENDED state without putting the PCI devices into D3 state.

Add SCLP PCI configure/deconfigure and implement a PCI hotplug
controller (s390_pci_hpc). The hotplug controller creates a slot
for every PCI function in stand-by or configured state. The PCI
functions are named after the PCI function ID (fid). By writing to
the power attribute in /sys/bus/pci/slots/<fid>/power the PCI function
is moved to stand-by or configured state. If moved to the configured
state the device is automatically scanned by the s390 PCI layer.

Support PCI adapter interrupts using the Single-IRQ-mode. Single-IRQ-mode
disables an adapter IRQ automatically after delivering it until the SIC
instruction enables it again. This is used to reduce the number of IRQs
for streaming workloads.

Up to 64 MSI handlers can be registered per PCI function.
A hash table is used to map interrupt numbers to MSI descriptors.
The interrupt vector is scanned using the flogr instruction.
Only MSI/MSI-X interrupts are supported, no legacy INTs.

This is because the report_error_detected() function that gets
called in the first phase of recovery process allows forward
progress even when the driver for the device does not have AER
capabilities. It seems that all callbacks (in pci_error_handlers
structure) registered by drivers that gets called during error
recovery are not mandatory. So the intention of the infrastructure
design seems to be to allow forward progress even when a specific
callback has not been registered by a driver. However, if error
handler structure itself has not been registered, it doesn't make
sense to allow forward progress.

As a result of the current design, in the case of a single device
having an AER-unaware driver or in the case of any function in a
multi-function card having an AER-unaware driver, a successful
recovery is reported.

Typical scenario this happens is when a PCI device is detached
from a KVM host and the pci-stub driver on the host claims the
device. The pci-stub driver does not have error handling capabilities
but the AER infrastructure still reports that the device recovered
successfully.

The changes proposed here leaves the device(s)in an unrecovered state
if the driver for the device or for any device in the subtree
does not have error handler structure registered. This reflects
the true state of the device and prevents any partial recovery (or no
recovery at all) reported as successful.

Some implementations of SRIOV provide a capability structure
value of TotalVFs that is greater than what the software can support.
Provide a method to reduce the capability structure reported value
to the value the driver can support.
This ensures sysfs reports the current capability of the system,
hardware and software.
Example for its use: igb & ixgbe -- report 8 & 64 as TotalVFs,
but drivers only support 7 & 63 maximum.

1789382a72 PCI: SRIOV control and status via sysfs
Provide files under sysfs to determine the maximum number of VFs
an SR-IOV-capable PCIe device supports, and methods to enable and
disable the VFs on a per-device basis.

Currently, VF enablement by SR-IOV-capable PCIe devices is done
via driver-specific module parameters.  If not setup in modprobe files,
it requires admin to unload & reload PF drivers with number of desired
VFs to enable.  Additionally, the enablement is system wide: all
devices controlled by the same driver have the same number of VFs
enabled.  Although the latter is probably desired, there are PCI
configurations setup by system BIOS that may not enable that to occur.

Two files are created for the PF of PCIe devices with SR-IOV support:

    sriov_totalvfs	Contains the maximum number of VFs the device
			could support as reported by the TotalVFs register
			in the SR-IOV extended capability.

    sriov_numvfs	Contains the number of VFs currently enabled on
			this device as reported by the NumVFs register in
			the SR-IOV extended capability.

			Writing zero to this file disables all VFs.

			Writing a positive number to this file enables that
			number of VFs.

These files are readable for all SR-IOV PF devices.  Writes to the
sriov_numvfs file are effective only if a driver that supports the
sriov_configure() method is attached.

The Meilhaus ME-2000i and ME-2600i data acquisition cards supported by
the Comedi "me_daq" driver use the PLX PCI 9050 PCI Target bridge chip
affected by the bug that prevents the chip's local configuration
registers being read from BAR0 or BAR1 base addresses that are an odd
multiple of 128 bytes.  Use the PLX PCI 9050 quirk handler for these
devices to re-allocate affected regions to a 256-byte boundary.

21c5fd9738 PCI: Add workaround for PLX PCI 9050 BAR alignment erratum
The PLX PCI 9050 PCI Target bridge controller has a bug that prevents
its local configuration registers being read through BAR0 (memory) or
BAR1 (i/o) if the base address lies on an odd 128-byte boundary, i.e. if
bit 7 of the base address is non-zero.  This bug is described in the PCI
9050 errata list, version 1.4, May 2005.  It was fixed in the
pin-compatible PCI 9052, which can be distinguished from the PCI 9050 by
checking the revision in the PCI header, which is hard-coded for these
chips.

Workaround the problem by re-allocating the affected regions to a
256-byte boundary.  Note that BAR0 and/or BAR1 may have been disabled
(size 0) during initialization of the PCI chip when its configuration is
read from a serial EEPROM.

Currently, the fix-up has only been used for devices with the default
vendor and device ID of the PLX PCI 9050.  The PCI 9052 shares the same
default device ID as the PCI 9050 but they have different PCI revision
codes.

42eca23021 PCI: Don't touch card regs after runtime suspend D3
If the driver takes care of state saving, don't touch any registers on it.

Optimus (dual-gpu) laptops seem to have their own form of D3cold, but
unfortunately enter it on normal D3 transitions via the ACPI callback.

So when we use runtime PM to transition to D3, the card disappears off
the PCI bus, however we then try to access registers on it in the
runtime suspend finish, which really doesn't work.

This patch checks whether the pci state is saved and doesn't attempt to hit
any registers after that point if it is.

Peter reported that /proc/bus/pci/??/??.? does not work for 3.6.
This is because the device configuration space registers are
not accessible if the corresponding parent bridge is suspended or
the device is put into D3cold state.

This is the same as /sys/bus/pci/devices/0000:??:??.?/config access
issue.  So the function used to solve sysfs issue is used to solve
this issue.

This patch moves pci_config_pm_runtime_get()/_put() from pci/pci-sysfs.c
to pci/pci.c and makes them extern so they can be used by both the
sysfs and proc paths.
