When given a MTU, this function calculates how much payload we can carry on it. Without a MTU, it calculates the amount of header overhead we have. So that when we have extra overhead, like the one added for IP options on SELinux patches, it is easier to handle it. ``make pdfdocs``. The formatted documentation can also be read online at:

There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory,
several of them using the Restructured Text markup notation.

Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the
requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about
the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
