If you drop into kdb and type "summary", it prints out a line that says this: ccversion CCVERSION ...and I don't mean that it actually prints out the version of the C compiler. It literally prints out the string "CCVERSION". The version of the C Compiler is already printed at boot up and it doesn't seem useful to replicate this in kdb. Let's just delete it. We can also delete the bit of the Makefile that called the C compiler in an attempt to pass this into kdb. This will remove one extra call to the C compiler at Makefile parse time and (very slightly) speed up builds. Linux kernel ============ There are several guides for kernel developers and users. These guides can be rendered in a number of formats, like HTML and PDF. Please read Documentation/admin-guide/README.rst first. In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or ``make pdfdocs``. The formatted documentation can also be read online at: https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/ There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory, several of them using the Restructured Text markup notation. Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
