mainlining shenanigans
The new type is meant to be used as a y2038 safe structure to be used as part of cmsg data. Presently the SO_TIMESTAMP socket option uses struct timeval for timestamps. This is not y2038 safe. Subsequent patches in the series add new y2038 safe socket option to be used in the place of SO_TIMESTAMP_OLD. struct __kernel_sock_timeval will be used as the timestamp format at that time. struct __kernel_sock_timeval also maintains the same layout across 32 bit and 64 bit ABIs. Linux kernel ============ There are several guides for kernel developers and users. These guides can be rendered in a number of formats, like HTML and PDF. Please read Documentation/admin-guide/README.rst first. In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or ``make pdfdocs``. The formatted documentation can also be read online at: https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/ There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory, several of them using the Restructured Text markup notation. Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
