When CPUID.01H:EDX.DS[21] is set, the IA32_DS_AREA MSR exists and points to the linear address of the first byte of the DS buffer management area, which is used to manage the PEBS records. When guest PEBS is enabled, the MSR_IA32_DS_AREA MSR will be added to the perf_guest_switch_msr() and switched during the VMX transitions just like CORE_PERF_GLOBAL_CTRL MSR. The WRMSR to IA32_DS_AREA MSR brings a #GP(0) if the source register contains a non-canonical address. Linux kernel

There are several guides for kernel developers and users. These guides can
be rendered in a number of formats, like HTML and PDF. Please read
Documentation/admin-guide/README.rst first.
In order to build the documentation, use ``make htmldocs`` or
``make pdfdocs``. The formatted documentation can also be read online at:
https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/
There are various text files in the Documentation/ subdirectory,
several of them using the Restructured Text markup notation.
Please read the Documentation/process/changes.rst file, as it contains the
requirements for building and running the kernel, and information about
the problems which may result by upgrading your kernel.
