HID: thingm: refactor blink(1) support
This patch refactors the way the thingm driver registers a blink(1) LED. In order to make the driver simpler and more standard, drop the "rgb" sysfs attribute and create one instance of LED class per RGB channel. Actually, the name of the LED class instance registered for a blink(1) device is "blink1::ABCD", where ABCD is the last 4 chars of the serial number. The driver now registers 3 instances per RGB chip, named "thingmX:{red, green, blue}:ledY" where X is the hidraw minor number and Y is the RGB chip number (as seen by the firmware). This patch also uses work queues to defer calls with the device, which now allows triggers to work as expected with this LED device. Also remove the brightness structure field and the brightness_get backend, as it is already handled by the LED class, and changes the prefix of functions and structures to thingm_ to match the driver name. HID: thingm: remove the "fade" sysfs attribute
As for the "play" sysfs attribute, remove this other non-standard attribute, so the driver only implements what is required to switch the LED on and off. Thus, a fade time won't be ideal for some fast-changing triggers. Signed-off-by: Vivien Didelot <vivien.didelot@savoirfairelinux.com> Signed-off-by: Jiri Kosina <jkosina@suse.cz> |

HID: thingm: remove the "play" sysfs attribute
When the thingm driver registers an instance of LED class, it creates a "play" sysfs attribute for this blink(1) specific feature. Since this feature is not specific to the RGB chip but to the HID device itself, let's remove this attribute from the LED instance and only implement what is useful to switch on and off the LED. This feature is still easily accessible through hidraw. Signed-off-by: Vivien Didelot <vivien.didelot@savoirfairelinux.com> Signed-off-by: Jiri Kosina <jkosina@suse.cz> |

Devicetree changes for v3.15
Updates to devicetree core code. This branch contains the following notable changes: * Add reserved memory binding * Make struct device_node a kobject and remove legacy /proc/device-tree * ePAPR conformance fixes * Update in-kernel DTC copy to version v1.4.0 * Preparation changes for dynamic device tree overlays * minor bug fixes and documentation changes The most significant change in this branch is the conversion of struct device_node to be a kobject that is exposed via sysfs and removal of the old /proc/device-tree code. This simplifies the device tree handling code and tightens up the lifecycle on device tree nodes. Merge branch 'next' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/benh/powerpc
Pull main powerpc updates from Ben Herrenschmidt: "This time around, the powerpc merges are going to be a little bit more complicated than usual. This is the main pull request with most of the work for this merge window. I will describe it a bit more further down. There is some additional cpuidle driver work, however I haven't included it in this tree as it depends on some work in tip/timer-core which Thomas accidentally forgot to put in a topic branch. Since I didn't want to carry all of that tip timer stuff in powerpc -next, I setup a separate branch on top of Thomas tree with just that cpuidle driver in it, and Stephen has been carrying that in next separately for a while now. I'll send a separate pull request for it. Additionally, two new pieces in this tree add users for a sysfs API that Tejun and Greg have been deprecating in drivers-core-next. Thankfully Greg reverted the patch that removes the old API so this merge can happen cleanly, but once merged, I will send a patch adjusting our new code to the new API so that Greg can send you the removal patch. Now as for the content of this branch, we have a lot of perf work for power8 new counters including support for our new "nest" counters (also called 24x7) under pHyp (not natively yet). We have new functionality when running under the OPAL firmware (non-virtualized or KVM host), such as access to the firmware error logs and service processor dumps, system parameters and sensors, along with a hwmon driver for the latter. There's also a bunch of bug fixes accross the board, some LE fixes, and a nice set of selftests for validating our various types of copy loops. On the Freescale side, we see mostly new chip/board revisions, some clock updates, better support for machine checks and debug exceptions, etc..." * 'next' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/benh/powerpc: (70 commits) powerpc/book3s: Fix CFAR clobbering issue in machine check handler. powerpc/compat: 32-bit little endian machine name is ppcle, not ppc powerpc/le: Big endian arguments for ppc_rtas() powerpc: Use default set of netfilter modules (CONFIG_NETFILTER_ADVANCED=n) powerpc/defconfigs: Enable THP in pseries defconfig powerpc/mm: Make sure a local_irq_disable prevent a parallel THP split powerpc: Rate-limit users spamming kernel log buffer powerpc/perf: Fix handling of L3 events with bank == 1 powerpc/perf/hv_{gpci, 24x7}: Add documentation of device attributes powerpc/perf: Add kconfig option for hypervisor provided counters powerpc/perf: Add support for the hv 24x7 interface powerpc/perf: Add support for the hv gpci (get performance counter info) interface powerpc/perf: Add macros for defining event fields & formats powerpc/perf: Add a shared interface to get gpci version and capabilities powerpc/perf: Add 24x7 interface headers powerpc/perf: Add hv_gpci interface header powerpc: Add hvcalls for 24x7 and gpci (Get Performance Counter Info) sysfs: create bin_attributes under the requested group powerpc/perf: Enable BHRB access for EBB events powerpc/perf: Add BHRB constraint and IFM MMCRA handling for EBB ... |

of: Make device nodes kobjects so they show up in sysfs
Device tree nodes are already treated as objects, and we already want to expose them to userspace which is done using the /proc filesystem today. Right now the kernel has to do a lot of work to keep the /proc view in sync with the in-kernel representation. If device_nodes are switched to be kobjects then the device tree code can be a whole lot simpler. It also turns out that switching to using /sysfs from /proc results in smaller code and data size, and the userspace ABI won't change if /proc/device-tree symlinks to /sys/firmware/devicetree/base. v7: Add missing sysfs_bin_attr_init() v6: Add __of_add_property() early init fixes from Pantelis v5: Rename firmware/ofw to firmware/devicetree Fix updating property values in sysfs v4: Fixed build error on Powerpc Fixed handling of dynamic nodes on powerpc v3: Fixed handling of duplicate attribute and child node names v2: switch to using sysfs bin_attributes which solve the problem of reporting incorrect property size. PM / QoS: Introcuce latency tolerance device PM QoS type
Add a new latency tolerance device PM QoS type to be use for specifying active state (RPM_ACTIVE) memory access (DMA) latency tolerance requirements for devices. It may be used to prevent hardware from choosing overly aggressive energy-saving operation modes (causing too much latency to appear) for the whole platform. This feature reqiures hardware support, so it only will be available for devices having a new .set_latency_tolerance() callback in struct dev_pm_info populated, in which case the routine pointed to by it should implement whatever is necessary to transfer the effective requirement value to the hardware. Whenever the effective latency tolerance changes for the device, its .set_latency_tolerance() callback will be executed and the effective value will be passed to it. If that value is negative, which means that the list of latency tolerance requirements for the device is empty, the callback is expected to switch the underlying hardware latency tolerance control mechanism to an autonomous mode if available. If that value is PM_QOS_LATENCY_ANY, in turn, and the hardware supports a special "no requirement" setting, the callback is expected to use it. That allows software to prevent the hardware from automatically updating the device's latency tolerance in response to its power state changes (e.g. during transitions from D3cold to D0), which generally may be done in the autonomous latency tolerance control mode. If .set_latency_tolerance() is present for the device, a new pm_qos_latency_tolerance_us attribute will be present in the devivce's power directory in sysfs. Then, user space can use that attribute to specify its latency tolerance requirement for the device, if any. Writing "any" to it means "no requirement, but do not let the hardware control latency tolerance" and writing "auto" to it allows the hardware to be switched to the autonomous mode if there are no other requirements from the kernel side in the device's list. This changeset includes a fix from Mika Westerberg. Signed-off-by: Rafael J. Wysocki <rafael.j.wysocki@intel.com> |

tty: Set correct tty name in 'active' sysfs attribute
The 'active' sysfs attribute should refer to the currently active tty devices the console is running on, not the currently active console. The console structure doesn't refer to any device in sysfs, only the tty the console is running on has. So we need to print out the tty names in 'active', not the console names. This resolves an issue on s390 platforms in determining the correct console device to use. ACPI and power management updates for 3.14-rc1
- ACPI core changes to make it create a struct acpi_device object for every device represented in the ACPI tables during all namespace scans regardless of the current status of that device. In accordance with this, ACPI hotplug operations will not delete those objects, unless the underlying ACPI tables go away. - On top of the above, new sysfs attribute for ACPI device objects allowing user space to check device status by triggering the execution of _STA for its ACPI object. From Srinivas Pandruvada. - ACPI core hotplug changes reducing code duplication, integrating the PCI root hotplug with the core and reworking container hotplug. - ACPI core simplifications making it use ACPI_COMPANION() in the code "glueing" ACPI device objects to "physical" devices. - ACPICA update to upstream version 20131218. This adds support for the DBG2 and PCCT tables to ACPICA, fixes some bugs and improves debug facilities. From Bob Moore, Lv Zheng and Betty Dall. - Init code change to carry out the early ACPI initialization earlier. They are fixes and cleanups mostly, as usual, with a couple of new features in the mix. The most visible change is probably that we will create struct acpi_device objects (visible in sysfs) for all devices represented in the ACPI tables regardless of their status and there will be a new sysfs attribute under those objects allowing user space to check that status via _STA. Consequently, ACPI device eject or generally hot-removal will not delete those objects, unless the table containing the corresponding namespace nodes is unloaded, which is extremely rare. Also ACPI container hotplug will be handled quite a bit differently and cpufreq will support CPU boost ("turbo") generically and not only in the acpi-cpufreq driver. Specifics: - ACPI core changes to make it create a struct acpi_device object for every device represented in the ACPI tables during all namespace scans regardless of the current status of that device. That should allow us to use ACPI during the timekeeping initialization and possibly to simplify the EFI initialization too. From Chun-Yi Lee. - Clenups of the inclusions of ACPI headers in many places all over from Lv Zheng and Rashika Kheria (work in progress). - New helper for ACPI _DSM execution and rework of the code in drivers that uses _DSM to execute it via the new helper. batman-adv: add isolation_mark sysfs attribute
This attribute can be used to set and read the value and the mask of the skb mark which will be used to classify the source non-mesh client as ISOLATED. In this way a client can be advertised as such and the mark can potentially be restored at the receiving node before delivering the skb. This can be helpful for creating network wide netfilter policies. This sysfs file expects a string of the shape "$mark/$mask". Where $mark has to be a 32-bit number in any base, while $mask must be a 32bit mask expressed in hex base. Only bits in $mark covered by the bitmask are really stored. rbd: add support for single-major device number allocation scheme
Currently each rbd device is allocated its own major number, which leads to a hard limit of 230-250 images mapped at once. This commit adds support for a new single-major device number allocation scheme, which is hidden behind a new single_major boolean module parameter and is disabled by default for backwards compatibility reasons. (Old userspace cannot correctly unmap images mapped under single-major scheme and would essentially just unmap a random image, if that.) $ rbd showmapped id pool image snap device 0 rbd b100 - /dev/rbd0 1 rbd b101 - /dev/rbd1 2 rbd b102 - /dev/rbd2 3 rbd b103 - /dev/rbd3 Old scheme (modprobe rbd): $ ls -l /dev/rbd* brw-rw---- 1 root disk 253, 0 Dec 10 12:24 /dev/rbd0 brw-rw---- 1 root disk 252, 0 Dec 10 12:28 /dev/rbd1 brw-rw---- 1 root disk 252, 1 Dec 10 12:28 /dev/rbd1p1 brw-rw---- 1 root disk 252, 2 Dec 10 12:28 /dev/rbd1p2 brw-rw---- 1 root disk 252, 3 Dec 10 12:28 /dev/rbd1p3 brw-rw---- 1 root disk 251, 0 Dec 10 12:28 /dev/rbd2 brw-rw---- 1 root disk 251, 1 Dec 10 12:28 /dev/rbd2p1 brw-rw---- 1 root disk 250, 0 Dec 10 12:24 /dev/rbd3 New scheme (modprobe rbd single_major=Y): $ ls -l /dev/rbd* brw-rw---- 1 root disk 253, 0 Dec 10 12:30 /dev/rbd0 brw-rw---- 1 root disk 253, 256 Dec 10 12:30 /dev/rbd1 brw-rw---- 1 root disk 253, 257 Dec 10 12:30 /dev/rbd1p1 brw-rw---- 1 root disk 253, 258 Dec 10 12:30 /dev/rbd1p2 brw-rw---- 1 root disk 253, 259 Dec 10 12:30 /dev/rbd1p3 brw-rw---- 1 root disk 253, 512 Dec 10 12:30 /dev/rbd2 brw-rw---- 1 root disk 253, 513 Dec 10 12:30 /dev/rbd2p1 brw-rw---- 1 root disk 253, 768 Dec 10 12:30 /dev/rbd3 (major 253 was assigned dynamically at module load time) The new limit is 4096 images mapped at once, and it comes from the fact that, as before, 256 minor numbers are reserved for each mapping. (A follow-up commit changes the number of minors reserved and the way we deal with partitions over that number.) If single_major is set to true, two new sysfs interfaces show up: /sys/bus/rbd/{add,remove}_single_major. These are to be used instead of /sys/bus/rbd/{add,remove}, which are disabled for backwards compatibility reasons outlined above. x86: Export x86 boot_params to sysfs
kexec-tools use boot_params for getting the 1st kernel hardware_subarch, the kexec kernel EFI runtime support also needs to read the old efi_info from boot_params. Currently it exists in debugfs which is not a good place for such infomation. Per HPA, we should avoid "sploit debugfs". In this patch /sys/kernel/boot_params are exported, also the setup_data is exported as a subdirectory. kexec-tools is using debugfs for hardware_subarch for a long time now so we're not removing it yet. Structure is like below: /sys/kernel/boot_params |__ data /* boot_params in binary*/ |__ setup_data | |__ 0 /* the first setup_data node */ | | |__ data /* setup_data node 0 in binary*/ | | |__ type /* setup_data type of setup_data node 0, hex string */ [snip] |__ version /* boot protocal version (in hex, "0x" prefixed)*/ Signed-off-by: Dave Young <dyoung@redhat.com> Acked-by: Borislav Petkov <bp@suse.de> Tested-by: Toshi Kani <toshi.kani@hp.com> Signed-off-by: Matt Fleming <matt.fleming@intel.com> |

efi: Export EFI runtime memory mapping to sysfs
kexec kernel will need exactly same mapping for EFI runtime memory ranges. Thus here export the runtime ranges mapping to sysfs, kexec-tools will assemble them and pass to 2nd kernel via setup_data. efi: Export more EFI table variables to sysfs
Export fw_vendor, runtime and config table physical addresses to /sys/firmware/efi/{fw_vendor,runtime,config_table} because kexec kernels need them. From EFI spec these 3 variables will be updated to virtual address after entering virtual mode. But kernel startup code will need the physical address. PCI/MSI: Export MSI mode using attributes, not kobjects
The PCI MSI sysfs code is a mess with kobjects for things that don't really need to be kobjects. This patch creates attributes dynamically for the MSI interrupts instead of using kobjects. Note, this removes a directory from sysfs. Old MSI kobjects: pci_device └── msi_irqs └── 40 └── mode New MSI attributes: pci_device └── msi_irqs └── 40 As there was only one file "mode" with the kobject model, the interrupt number is now a file that returns the "mode" of the interrupt (msi vs. msix). MTD merge for 3.13
* Unify some compile-time differences so that we have fewer uses of #ifdef CONFIG_OF in atmel_nand * Other general cleanups (removing unused functions, options, variables, fields; use correct interfaces) * Fix BUG() for new odd-sized NAND, which report non-power-of-2 dimensions via ONFI * Miscellaneous driver fixes (SPI NOR flash; BCM47xx NAND flash; etc.) * Improve differentiation between SLC and MLC NAND -- this clarifies an ABI issue regarding the MTD "type" (in sysfs and in ioctl(MEMGETINFO)), where the MTD_MLCNANDFLASH type was present but inconsistently used * Extend GPMI NAND to support multi-chip-select NAND for some platforms * Many improvements to the OMAP2/3 NAND driver, including an expanded DT binding to bring us closer to mainline support for some OMAP systems * Fix a deadlock in the error path of the Atmel NAND driver probe * Correct the error codes from MTD mmap() to conform to POSIX and the Linux Programmer's Manual. Merge git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/davem/net-next
Pull networking updates from David Miller: 1) The addition of nftables. No longer will we need protocol aware firewall filtering modules, it can all live in userspace. At the core of nftables is a, for lack of a better term, virtual machine that executes byte codes to inspect packet or metadata (arriving interface index, etc.) and make verdict decisions. Besides support for loading packet contents and comparing them, the interpreter supports lookups in various datastructures as fundamental operations. For example sets are supports, and therefore one could create a set of whitelist IP address entries which have ACCEPT verdicts attached to them, and use the appropriate byte codes to do such lookups. Since the interpreted code is composed in userspace, userspace can do things like optimize things before giving it to the kernel. Another major improvement is the capability of atomically updating portions of the ruleset. In the existing netfilter implementation, one has to update the entire rule set in order to make a change and this is very expensive. Userspace tools exist to create nftables rules using existing netfilter rule sets, but both kernel implementations will need to co-exist for quite some time as we transition from the old to the new stuff. Kudos to Patrick McHardy, Pablo Neira Ayuso, and others who have worked so hard on this. 2) Daniel Borkmann and Hannes Frederic Sowa made several improvements to our pseudo-random number generator, mostly used for things like UDP port randomization and netfitler, amongst other things. In particular the taus88 generater is updated to taus113, and test cases are added. 3) Support 64-bit rates in HTB and TBF schedulers, from Eric Dumazet and Yang Yingliang. 4) Add support for new 577xx tigon3 chips to tg3 driver, from Nithin Sujir. 5) Fix two fatal flaws in TCP dynamic right sizing, from Eric Dumazet, Neal Cardwell, and Yuchung Cheng. 6) Allow IP_TOS and IP_TTL to be specified in sendmsg() ancillary control message data, much like other socket option attributes. From Francesco Fusco. 7) Allow applications to specify a cap on the rate computed automatically by the kernel for pacing flows, via a new SO_MAX_PACING_RATE socket option. From Eric Dumazet. 8) Make the initial autotuned send buffer sizing in TCP more closely reflect actual needs, from Eric Dumazet. 9) Currently early socket demux only happens for TCP sockets, but we can do it for connected UDP sockets too. Implementation from Shawn Bohrer. 10) Refactor inet socket demux with the goal of improving hash demux performance for listening sockets. With the main goals being able to use RCU lookups on even request sockets, and eliminating the listening lock contention. From Eric Dumazet. 11) The bonding layer has many demuxes in it's fast path, and an RCU conversion was started back in 3.11, several changes here extend the RCU usage to even more locations. From Ding Tianhong and Wang Yufen, based upon suggestions by Nikolay Aleksandrov and Veaceslav Falico. 12) Allow stackability of segmentation offloads to, in particular, allow segmentation offloading over tunnels. From Eric Dumazet. 13) Significantly improve the handling of secret keys we input into the various hash functions in the inet hashtables, TCP fast open, as well as syncookies. From Hannes Frederic Sowa. The key fundamental operation is "net_get_random_once()" which uses static keys. Hannes even extended this to ipv4/ipv6 fragmentation handling and our generic flow dissector. 14) The generic driver layer takes care now to set the driver data to NULL on device removal, so it's no longer necessary for drivers to explicitly set it to NULL any more. Many drivers have been cleaned up in this way, from Jingoo Han. 15) Add a BPF based packet scheduler classifier, from Daniel Borkmann. 16) Improve CRC32 interfaces and generic SKB checksum iterators so that SCTP's checksumming can more cleanly be handled. Also from Daniel Borkmann. 17) Add a new PMTU discovery mode, IP_PMTUDISC_INTERFACE, which forces using the interface MTU value. This helps avoid PMTU attacks, particularly on DNS servers. From Hannes Frederic Sowa. 18) Use generic XPS for transmit queue steering rather than internal (re-)implementation in virtio-net. Staging driver update for 3.13-rc1
Here's the big drivers/staging/ update for 3.13-rc1. Nothing major here, just a _ton_ of fixes and cleanups, mostly driven by the new round of OPW applicants, but also there are lots of other people doing staging tree cleanups these days in order to help get the drivers into mergable shape. We also merge, and then revert, the ktap code, as Ingo and the other perf/ftrace developers feel it should go into the "real" part of the kernel with only a bit more work, so no need to put it in staging for now. All of this has been in linux-next for a while with no reported issues.
