mm/hugetlb: reduce arch dependent code about hugetlb_prefault_arch_hook
Currently we have many duplicates in definitions of hugetlb_prefault_arch_hook. In all architectures this function is empty. mm: new mm hook framework
CRIU is recreating the process memory layout by remapping the checkpointee memory area on top of the current process (criu). This includes remapping the vDSO to the place it has at checkpoint time. However some architectures like powerpc are keeping a reference to the vDSO base address to build the signal return stack frame by calling the vDSO sigreturn service. So once the vDSO has been moved, this reference is no more valid and the signal frame built later are not usable. This patch serie is introducing a new mm hook framework, and a new arch_remap hook which is called when mremap is done and the mm lock still hold. The next patch is adding the vDSO remap and unmap tracking to the powerpc architecture. This patch (of 3): This patch introduces a new set of header file to manage mm hooks: - per architecture empty header file (arch/x/include/asm/mm-arch-hooks.h) - a generic header (include/linux/mm-arch-hooks.h) The architecture which need to overwrite a hook as to redefine it in its header file, while architecture which doesn't need have nothing to do. The default hooks are defined in the generic header and are used in the case the architecture is not defining it. In a next step, mm hooks defined in include/asm-generic/mm_hooks.h should be moved here. This is the final removal (after several years!) of the obsolete cpus_*
functions, prompted by their mis-use in staging. With these function removed, all cpu functions should only iterate to nr_cpu_ids, so we finally only allocate that many bits when cpumasks are allocated offstack. Fix weird uses of num_online_cpus().
This may be OK in archs with contiguous CPU numbers and without hotplug CPUs, but it sets a terrible example. And open-coding it like drivers/scsi/hpsa.c is just weird. BTRFS has a weird comparison with num_online_cpus() too, but since BTRFS just screwed up my test machines' root partition, I'm not touching it :) Signed-off-by: Rusty Russell <rusty@rustcorp.com.au> Reported-by: Oleg Drokin <green@linuxhacker.ru> |

all arches, signal: move restart_block to struct task_struct
If an attacker can cause a controlled kernel stack overflow, overwriting the restart block is a very juicy exploit target. This is because the restart_block is held in the same memory allocation as the kernel stack. Moving the restart block to struct task_struct prevents this exploit by making the restart_block harder to locate. Note that there are other fields in thread_info that are also easy targets, at least on some architectures. It's also a decent simplification, since the restart code is more or less identical on all architectures. sh: fix put_user sparse errors
virtio wants to write bitwise types to userspace using put_user. At the moment this triggers sparse errors, since the value is passed through an integer. For example: __le32 __user *p; __le32 x; put_user(x, p); is safe, but currently triggers a sparse warning. Fix that up using __force. Note: this does not suppress any useful sparse checks since caller assigns x to typeof(*p), which in turn forces all the necessary type checks. Signed-off-by: Michael S. Tsirkin <mst@redhat.com> |

Pull audit updates from Eric Paris: "So this change across a whole bunch of arches really solves one basic problem. We want to audit when seccomp is killing a process. seccomp hooks in before the audit syscall entry code. audit_syscall_entry took as an argument the arch of the given syscall. Since the arch is part of what makes a syscall number meaningful it's an important part of the record, but it isn't available when seccomp shoots the syscall... For most arch's we have a better way to get the arch (syscall_get_arch) So the solution was two fold: Implement syscall_get_arch() everywhere there is audit which didn't have it. Use syscall_get_arch() in the seccomp audit code. Having syscall_get_arch() everywhere meant it was a useless flag on the stack and we could get rid of it for the typical syscall entry. The other changes inside the audit system aren't grand, fixed some records that had invalid spaces. Better locking around the task comm field. Removing some dead functions and structs. Make some things static. SH: define syscall_get_arch() for superh
This patch defines syscall_get_arch() for the superh platform. It does so in both syscall_32.h and syscall_64.h. I'm not certain if the implementation in syscall_64.h couldn't just be used in syscall.h as I can't really track the setting of CONFIG_64BIT... This way is safe, but we might be able to combine these if a superh person were able to review... arm64,ia64,ppc,s390,sh,tile,um,x86,mm: remove default gate area
The core mm code will provide a default gate area based on FIXADDR_USER_START and FIXADDR_USER_END if !defined(__HAVE_ARCH_GATE_AREA) && defined(AT_SYSINFO_EHDR). This default is only useful for ia64. arm64, ppc, s390, sh, tile, 64-bit UML, and x86_32 have their own code just to disable it. arm, 32-bit UML, and x86_64 have gate areas, but they have their own implementations. This gets rid of the default and moves the code into ia64. This should save some code on architectures without a gate area: it's now possible to inline the gate_area functions in the default case. PCI: Turn pcibios_penalize_isa_irq() into a weak function
pcibios_penalize_isa_irq() is only implemented by x86 now, and legacy ISA is not used by some architectures. Make pcibios_penalize_isa_irq() a __weak function to simplify the code. This removes the need for new platforms to add stub implementations of pcibios_penalize_isa_irq(). ftrace: Make CALLER_ADDRx macros more generic
Most archs with HAVE_ARCH_CALLER_ADDR have pretty much the same definitions of CALLER_ADDRx(n). Instead of duplicating the code for all the archs, define a ftrace_return_address0() and ftrace_return_address(n) that can be overwritten by the archs if they need to do something different. Instead of 7 macros in every arch, we now only have at most 2 (and actually only 1 as ftrace_return_address0() should be the same for all archs). The CALLER_ADDRx(n) will now be defined in linux/ftrace.h and use the ftrace_return_address*(n?) macros. This removes a lot of the duplicate code. mm: split 'tlb_flush_mmu()' into tlb flushing and memory freeing parts
The mmu-gather operation 'tlb_flush_mmu()' has done two things: the actual tlb flush operation, and the batched freeing of the pages that the TLB entries pointed at. This splits the operation into separate phases, so that the forced batched flushing done by zap_pte_range() can now do the actual TLB flush while still holding the page table lock, but delay the batched freeing of all the pages to after the lock has been dropped. This in turn allows us to avoid a race condition between set_page_dirty() (as called by zap_pte_range() when it finds a dirty shared memory pte) and page_mkclean(): because we now flush all the dirty page data from the TLB's while holding the pte lock, page_mkclean() will be held up walking the (recently cleaned) page tables until after the TLB entries have been flushed from all CPU's. Kconfig: rename HAS_IOPORT to HAS_IOPORT_MAP
If the renamed symbol is defined lib/iomap.c implements ioport_map and ioport_unmap and currently (nearly) all platforms define the port accessor functions outb/inb and friend unconditionally. So HAS_IOPORT_MAP is the better name for this. Consequently NO_IOPORT is renamed to NO_IOPORT_MAP. The motivation for this change is to reintroduce a symbol HAS_IOPORT that signals if outb/int et al are available. I will address that at least one merge window later though to keep surprises to a minimum and catch new introductions of (HAS|NO)_IOPORT. The changes in this commit were done using: $ git grep -l -E '(NO|HAS)_IOPORT' | xargs perl -p -i -e 's/\b((?:CONFIG_)?(?:NO|HAS)_IOPORT)\b/$1_MAP/' Signed-off-by: Uwe Kleine-König <u.kleine-koenig@pengutronix.de> Acked-by: Arnd Bergmann <arnd@arndb.de> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org> |

sh: don't pass saved userspace state to exception handlers

sh: push extra copy of r0-r2 for syscall parameters
When invoking syscall handlers on sh32, the saved userspace registers are at the top of the stack. This seems to have been intentional, as it is an easy way to pass r0, r1, ... to the handler as parameters 5, 6, ... It causes problems, however, because the compiler is allowed to generate code for a function which clobbers that function's own parameters. For example, gcc generates the following code for clone: <SyS_clone>: mov.l 8c020714 <SyS_clone+0xc>,r1 ! 8c020540 <do_fork> mov.l r7,@r15 mov r6,r7 jmp @r1 mov #0,r6 nop .word 0x0540 .word 0x8c02 The `mov.l r7,@r15` clobbers the saved value of r0 passed from userspace. For most system calls, this might not be a problem, because we'll be overwriting r0 with the return value anyway. But in the case of clone, copy_thread will need the original value of r0 if the CLONE_SETTLS flag was specified. The first patch in this series fixes this issue for system calls by pushing to the stack and extra copy of r0-r2 before invoking the handler. We discard this copy before restoring the userspace registers, so it is not a problem if they are clobbered. Exception handlers also receive the userspace register values in a similar manner, and may hit the same problem. The second patch removes the do_fpu_error handler, which looks susceptible to this problem and which, as far as I can tell, has not been used in some time. The third patch addresses other exception handlers. This patch (of 3): The userspace registers are stored at the top of the stack when the syscall handler is invoked, which allows r0-r2 to act as parameters 5-7. Parameters passed on the stack may be clobbered by the syscall handler. The solution is to push an extra copy of the registers which might be used as syscall parameters to the stack, so that the authoritative set of saved register values does not get clobbered. A few system call handlers are also updated to get the userspace registers using current_pt_regs() instead of from the stack. The first half of the clk framework pull request is made up almost
entirely of new platform/driver support. There are some conversions of existing drivers to the common-clock Device Tree binding, and a few non-critical fixes to the framework. Due to an entirely unnecessary cyclical dependency with the arm-soc tree this pull request is broken into two pieces. The second piece will be sent out after arm-soc sends you the pull request that merged in core support for the HiSilicon 3620 platform. That same pull request from arm-soc depends on this pull request to merge in those HiSilicon bits without causing build failures. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.14 (GNU/Linux) iQIcBAABAgAGBQJS4WZPAAoJEDqPOy9afJhJVz4QAL63xispjEVuABUjgskR1fyo 7QljpqUJCOViqiVqNi1sPtM0irvfrApNwTpK3mGm20/kbNIBSdqGc/fI5CbWxXAU scRqplTTLY6F7nXJXGgiM/e5b31Tb+KmY9Su5chq1Yv6py4/yb6SzoohcBlQJ5in JKIxgLqe1VqUkCY2EFlqLwYqUtgr/Zm6ZJDt4LTwxc43apwgG7USMAS8ppx7nTgd oGgcsU4dNur1L4+ahvwqC+ntfoZNmVKJm+eY+JrHXJ2sga4PLaJcorgK2NXFpgln nwZQzRfbZLg7vNg/ODIDvP94mhc266xq2TCWzD/kMOBwmhsM0lySpzI/IM8qv1U2 Tdy9EHAj2iHoU+s1yPEUtNRV4h2+BGUUy54690XO30+VCLVEJUCC2KopDAk0G3ua qxSCb1mJto8EEq3jCJwKZSOUI7gcizDjHAaqfLlnDytMlsFJR7AJVj5IcRdgC/9s Vg975Xklkn33fWEuYQzdQdcmJ8ZCnydo92R2S0CaMgxMZqp2eoYZXJWvgCAvfQYC HjAtnBpHxNsZQeASvclb9bQrEisAUjIrxvuzLenQhg88WhBuyUDgBdretCzHFhP4 i62QGAhSYiNJJQzs+U9EndG6fRr/p98Pmw2pBAAn8UYOT2wWMj8wpR+IVT50Bmdi j6LsDpvc7CE2a4f+KoCa =Hh66 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'clk-for-linus-3.14-part1' of git://git.linaro.org/people/mike.turquette/linux Pull clk framework changes from Mike Turquette: "The first half of the clk framework pull request is made up almost entirely of new platform/driver support.
