The currently when perf TUI report shows callchain, the first level
chains have bogus '+' sign even though only the last one has children.
Since they are on a single line of the chain, toggling intermediate
entries has no effect. Fix it to show '+' sign at the last entry only.
Note that non-first level callchain entries don't have this problem.

If user sets ui.show-headers config option to false, it didn't calculate
default column width so it broke the alignment. This is because it does
the calculation just before showing headers.
Move it to the beginning of the hist browser so that it can be called
regardless of the config option.

This requires some more work so that we can really just use the width of
current entries when we want to partition the screen.
Right now its just a prep patch so that we can have where to update
ui_browser->rows when introducing the column headers line, that will be
togglable, so we need to update it everytime we refresh the dimensions
of the browser.

The ui_browser->height is about the whole browser "window", including
any header, status lines or any other space needed for some "Yes", "No",
etc buttons a descendent browser, like hist_browser, may have.
Since the navigation is done mostly on the ui_browser methods, it needs
to know how many rows are on the screen, while details about what other
components are, say, if a header (that may be composed of multiple
lines, etc) is present.
Besides this we'll need to add a ui_browser->refresh_dimensions() hook
so that browsers like hist_browser can update ->rows in response to
screen resizes, this will come in a follow up patch.
This patch just adds ->rows and updates it when updating ->height, keeps
using ->height for the only other widget that can come with ui_browser,
the scrollbar, that goes on using all the height on the rightmost column
in the screen, using ->rows for the keyboard navigation needs.

When cumulative callchain mode is on, we could get samples with
with no actual hits. This breaks the assumption of the annotation
code, that each sample has annotation counts allocated and leads
to segfault.
Fixing this by additional checks for annotation stats.

The ui_browser__gotorc function needs offset from 'y' member, so the row
index has to begin with 0, which happens by accident in current code,
because we display only one header line.
The bug shows when we want to display more than 1 header lines like
columns headers in following patches.

After output/sort fields refactoring, it's expensive
to check the elide bool in its current location inside
the 'struct sort_entry'.
The perf_hpp__should_skip function gets highly noticable in
workloads with high number of output/sort fields, like for:
$ perf report -i perf-test.data -F overhead,sample,period,comm,pid,dso,symbol,cpu --stdio

Moving the elide bool into the 'struct perf_hpp_fmt', which
makes the perf_hpp__should_skip just single struct read.
Got speedup of around 22% for my test perf.data workload.
The change should not harm any other workload types.

With current output field change, GTK browser cannot display callchain
information correctly since it couldn't determine where the symbol
column is. This is a problem - just for now I changed to use the last
column since it'll work for most cases.
Also it has a same problem of the percentage as stdio code.

On stdio, there's a problem that it shows invalid values for
callchains in cumulated hist entries. It's because it only cares
about the self period. But with --children behavior, we always add
callchain info to the cumulated entries so it should use the value in
that case.

Depending on the configuration perf inserts/removes the Children
column in the output automatically. But it might not be what user
wants if [s]he give --fields option explicitly.

If -g cumulative option is given, it needs to show entries which don't
have self overhead. So apply percent-limit to accumulated overhead
percentage in this case.

Print accumulated stat of a hist entry if requested.
To do that, add new HPP_PERCENT_ACC_FNS macro and generate a
perf_hpp_fmt using it. The __hpp__sort_acc() function sorts entries
by accumulated period value. When accumulated periods of two entries
are same (i.e. single path callchain) put the caller above since
accumulation tends to put callers on higher position for obvious
reason.
Also add "overhead_children" output field to be selected by user.

Now we moved to the perf_hpp_[_sort]_list so no need to keep the old
hist_entry__sort_list and sort__first_dimension. Also the
hist_entry__sort_snprintf() can be gone as hist_entry__snprintf()
provides the functionality.

The hists__filter_entries() function is called when down arrow key is
pressed for navigating through the entries in TUI. It has a check for
filtering out entries that have very small overhead (under min_pcnt).
However it just assumed the entries are sorted by the overhead so when
it saw such a small overheaded entry, it just stopped navigating as an
optimization. But it's not true anymore due to new --fields and
--sort optoin behavior and this case users cannot go down to a next
entry if ther's an entry with small overhead in-between.

The -F/--fields option is to allow user setup output field in any
order. It can receive any sort keys and following (hpp) fields:
overhead, overhead_sys, overhead_us, sample and period
If guest profiling is enabled, overhead_guest_{sys,us} will be
available too.
The output fields also affect sort order unless you give -s/--sort
option. And any keys specified on -s option, will also be added to
the output field list automatically.

The callback was used by TUI for determining color of folded sign
using percent of first field/column. But it cannot be used anymore
since it now support dynamic reordering of output field.
So move the logic to the hist_browser__show_entry().

Until now the hpp and sort functions do similar jobs different ways.
Since the sort functions converted/wrapped to hpp formats it can do
the job in a uniform way.
The perf_hpp__sort_list has a list of hpp formats to sort entries and
the perf_hpp__list has a list of hpp formats to print output result.
To have a backward compatibility, it automatically adds 'overhead'
field in front of sort list. And then all of fields in sort list
added to the output list (if it's not already there).

Moving towards sharing map groups within a process threads.
Because of this we need the map groups to be dynamically allocated. No
other functional change is intended in here.
Based on a patch by Jiri Olsa, but this time _just_ making the
conversion from statically allocating thread->mg to turning it into a
pointer and instead of initializing it at thread's constructor,
introduce a constructor/destructor for the map_groups class and
call at thread creation time.
Later we will introduce the get/put methods when we move to sharing
those map_groups, when the get/put refcounting semantics will be needed.

When TUI hist browser expands/collapses callchains it accounted number
of callchain nodes into total entries to show. However this code
ignores filtering so that it can make the cursor go to out of screen.
Thanks to Jiri Olsa for pointing out a bug (and a fix) in the code.

The hist_browser__reset() is only called right after a filter is
applied so it needs to udpate browser->nr_entries properly. We cannot
use hists->nr_non_filtered_entreis directly since it's possible that
such entries are also filtered out by minimum percentage limit.
In addition when a filter is used for perf top, hist browser's
nr_entries field was not updated after applying the filter. But it
needs to be updated as new samples are coming.

The nr_entries variable is increased inside the loop in the function
but it always count the first entry regardless of it's filtered or
not; caused an off-by-one error.
It'd become a problem especially there's no entry at all - it'd get a
segfault during referencing a NULL pointer.

The --percentage option is for controlling overhead percentage
displayed. It can only receive either of "relative" or "absolute".
"relative" means it's relative to filtered entries only so that the
sum of shown entries will be always 100%. "absolute" means it retains
the original value before and after the filter is applied.

Those functions need evsel to investigate event group and it's passed
via hpp->ptr. However as it can be missed easily so it's better to

Each call to tui_progress__update() would forcibly refresh the entire
screen. This is somewhat inefficient and causes noticable flickering
during the startup of perf-report, especially on large/slow terminals.
It looks like the force-refresh in tui_progress__update() serves no
purpose other than to clear the screen so that the progress bar of a
previous operation does not subsume that of a subsequent operation. But
we can do just that in a much more efficient manner by clearing only the
region that a previous progress bar may have occupied before repainting
the new progress bar. Then the force-refresh could be removed with no
change in visuals.
This patch disables the slow force-refresh in tui_progress__update() and
instead calls SLsmg_fill_region() on the entire area that the progress
bar may occupy before repainting it. This change makes the startup of
perf-report much faster and appear much "smoother".
It turns out that this was a big bottleneck in the startup speed of
perf-report -- with this patch, perf-report starts up ~2x faster (1.1s
vs 0.55s) on my machines. (These numbers were measured by running "time
perf report" on an 8MB perf.data and pressing 'q' immediately.)

As the thread comm is going to be implemented by way of a more
complicated data structure than just a pointer to a string from the
thread struct, convert the readers of comm to use an accessor instead of
accessing it directly.
The accessor will be later overriden to support an enhanced comm
implementation.

The 4fb71074a5 (perf ui/hist: Consolidate hpp helpers) cset introduced
a cast of percent_color_snprintf to a function pointer type with
varargs. Change percent_color_snprintf to be variadic and remove the
cast.
The symptom of this was all percentages being reported as 0.00% in perf
report --stdio output on the armhf arch.

This works fine until you hit color overhead output which places extra
bytes into output buffer. We need to account for color overhead in the
output buffer. Adding maximum color byte size to the output buffer size.

When following a call, annotate_browser__callq() uses the current
symbol's map to look up the target ip. That will not work if the target
ip is on a map with a different mapping (i.e. start - pgoff is
different).

Separate out GTK codes to a shared object called libperf-gtk.so. This
time only GTK codes are built with -fPIC and libperf remains as is. Now
run GTK hist and annotation browser using libdl.

We had a hardcoded buffer for formatting histogram entries, truncating
long symbol names (C++ anyone?).
Fix it by using hists__sort_list_width() before formatting the first
histogram entry to calculate the max lenght needed by traversing the
overheads and columns lists (sort order).

The commit 2b8bfa6bb8 ("perf tools: Centralize default columns init in
perf_hpp__init") moves initialization of common overhead column to
perf_hpp__init() but forgot about the gtk code.
So the gtk code added the same column to the list twice causing infinite
loop when iterating it by perf_hpp__for_each_format loop. When I run
perf report --gtk, I can see following messages indefinitely.
(perf:11687): Gtk-CRITICAL **: IA__gtk_main_quit: assertion 'main_loops != NULL' failed
perf: Segmentation fault

The previous description: "Search previous string" is usually associated
with the 'N' following a '/string', the opposite of 'n', which is
'Search next string' in the direction established with '/' or '?'.
So change it to 'Search string backwards', to clarify that.
The 'N' hotkey remains to be implemented with the semantic described
above.

It does not make sense to make some computation (ratio, wdiff), when the
hist_entry is 'dummy' - added via hists__link.
Adding dummy field to struct hist_entry which indicates that it was
added by hists__link and avoiding some of the processing for such
entries.

Making the baseline hists to act as a pairs head.
So far we don't care which hists act as a pairs head, because we have
only 2 files to deal with and any of them is suitable to do the job.
But if we want to process more files, we need to pick up one hists to
act as pairs head, and the baseline hists is the most suitable.

The 'rules' means that every second line of the tree view has a shaded
background, which makes it easier to see which cell belongs to which
row in the tree view. It can be useful for a tree view that has a lot
of rows.

Initial motivation was to avoid the confusing exit when when '/' is

Now that the map browser shares the input routine with the hists
browser, there is no need for using any libnewt routine, so remove all
traces except for honouring NO_NEWT=1 on the makefile command line as an
indication that TUI support is not needed, in fact it just sets
NO_SLANG=1.

The perf_evsel__is_group_event function is for checking whether given
evsel needs event group view support or not. Please note that it's
different to the existing perf_evsel__is_group_leader() which checks
only the given evsel is a leader or a standalone (i.e. non-group) event
regardless of event group feature.

In order to differentiate source lines from asm line, print them with
gray color. To do this, it needs to be escaped since sometimes it
contains "<" and/or ">" characters so that it should not be considered
as a markup tags. Use glib's g_markup_escape_text() for this.

Show multiple annotation result for each evsel. Each result represents
the most frquently sampled symbol/function for the evsel and it will be
shown in a tab window.
For this add a reference to main container (notebook) to the pgctx. At
the first call to annotate browser, hist_entry__find_annotations() will
setup a new browser, and next calls will add new tabs to the browser.
But it requires final perf_gtk__show_annotations() to start processing
GUI events.

Currently we don't display group members' values for raw columns like
'Samples' and 'Period' when in group report mode.
Uniting '__hpp__percent_fmt' and '__hpp__raw_fmt' function under new
function __hpp__fmt. It's basically '__hpp__percent_fmt' code with new
'fmt_percent' bool parameter added saying whether raw number or
percentage should be printed.
This way raw columns print out all the group members when
in group report mode, like:

Based on perf report/top/scripts browser integration idea from acme.
This will enable user to runtime switch the data file, when this option
is selected, it will popup all the legal data files in current working
directory, and the filename selected by user is saved in the global
variable "input_name", and a new key 'K_SWITCH_INPUT_DATA' will be
passed back to the built-in command which will perform the switch.
This initial version only enables it for 'perf report'.

When event group feature is enabled, each column header is expanded to
match with the whole group column width. But this is not needed for
GTK+ browser since ti usually use variable-width fonts. So trim it.

In tools/perf we use a convention where __ separates the struct name
from the function name for functions that operate on a struct instance.

Factorize jump sanity checks from mark_jump_targets() and
draw_current_jump() in an is_valid_jump() function.
This fixes a segfault when moving the cursor over an invalid jump.

The ui__error/warning functions use gtk infobar or statusbar and pr_*
functions use statusbar too. But after perf gtk context created but
those infobar and/or statusbar not yet set up, calling one of those
functions will get a segment fault.
Although current code has no problem, move these setting as early as
possible so that it can prevent the segfault from future change.

It seems not very useful, because it's possible and event more convenient to
lookup related symbol by name. Also the output value for both 'baseline' and
'new' data is quite apparent from diff output.
And above all it complicates hist code factoring ;)
Ditching out PERF_HPP__DISPL column with related output functions.

Adding perf_hpp__list list to register and contain all period related
columns the command is interested in.
This way we get rid of static array holding all possible columns and
enable commands to register their own columns.
It'll be handy for diff command in future to process and display data
for multiple files.

Sometimes we need to know when the progress bar should disappear.
Checking curr >= total wasn't enough since there're cases not met that
condition for the last call.
So add a new ->finish callback to identify this explicitly. Currently
only GTK frontend needs it.

The perf annotate browser on TUI can identify a jump target for a
selected instruction. It assumes that the jump target is within the
function but it's not the case of PLT symbols which have offset out of
the function as a target.
Since it caused a segmentation fault, do not try to follow jump target
on the PLT symbols.

We want to match more than two hists, so that we can match more than two
perf.data files and moreover, match hist_entries (buckets) in multiple
events in a group.
So the "baseline"/"leader" will instead of a ->pair pointer, use a
list_head, that will link to the pairs and hists__match use it.
Following that perf_evlist__link will link the hists in its evsel
groups.

David reported that current perf report refused to run on a data file
captured from a different machine because of objdump.
Since the objdump tools won't be used unless annotation was requested,
checking its presence at init time doesn't make sense.

Currently various hist browser functions receive 3 arguments for
refreshing histogram but only used from a few places. Also it's only
for perf top command so that it can be NULL for other (and probably
most) cases. Pack them into a struct in order to reduce number of those
unused arguments.
This is a mechanical change and does not intend a functional change.

Create a script browser, so that user can check all the available
scripts for current perf data file and run them inside the main perf
report or annotation browsers, for all perf samples or for samples
belong to one thread/symbol.
Please be noted: current script browser is only for report use, and
doesn't cover the record phase, IOW it must run against one existing
perf data file.
The work flow is, users can use function key to list all the available
scripts for current perf data file in system and chose one, which will
be executed with popen("perf script -s xxx.xx",) and all the output
lines are put into one ui browser, pressing 'q' or left arrow key will
make it return to previous browser.

The commit 5395a04841 ("perf hists: Separate overhead and baseline
columns") makes the "Overhead" column no more the first one, this
caused the test that checks if it is time to show if a histogram
entry has callchains never hits.
Fix it by checking if the 'i' variable is equal to PERF_HPP__OVERHEAD
instead of 0.

Adding 'wdiff' as new computation way to compare hist entries.
If specified the 'Weighted diff' column is displayed with value 'd'
computed as:
d = B->period * WEIGHT-A - A->period * WEIGHT-B
- A/B being matching hist entry from first/second file specified
(or perf.data/perf.data.old) respectively.
- period being the hist entry period value
- WEIGHT-A/WEIGHT-B being user suplied weights in the the '-c' option
behind ':' separator like '-c wdiff:1,2'.

Adding -c option to select computation method with the current 'Delta'
computation as default. Current possible values are of this option are:
'delta' and 'ratio'.
Adding 'ratio' as new computation way to compare hist entries. If

entry. It is required for later changes.

The total_period is available in struct hists data via the 'struct
hist_entry::hists' pointer. There's no need to carry it through the
output code path.
Removing 'struct perf_hpp::total_period' pointer, because it's no longer

Adding perf_hpp__column_enable function to enable/disable hists column
and removing diff command specific stuff 'need_pair and
show_displacement' from hpp code.
The diff command now enables/disables columns separately according to
the user arguments. This will be helpful in future patches where more
columns are added into diff output.

Currently the overhead and baseline columns are handled within single
function and the distinction is made by 'baseline hists' pointer passed
by 'struct perf_hpp::ptr'.
Since hists pointer is now part of each hist_entry, it's possible to
locate paired hists pointer directly from the passed struct hist_entry
pointer.
Also separating those 2 columns makes the code more obvious.

Moving the position calculation into the diff command, so the position
as prepared inside struct hist_entry data and there's no need to compute
in the output display path.
Removing 'displacement' from struct perf_hpp as it is no longer needed.

For building perf without gtk+2, we can set NO_GTK2=1 as a argument of
make. It then defines NO_GTK2_SUPPORT macro for C code to do the
proper handling. However it usually used in a negative semantics -
e.g. #ifndef - so we saw double negations which can be misleading.
Convert it to a positive form to make it more readable.

As a side effect of commit f5951d56a2 ("perf hists browser: Use
perf_hpp__format functions") perf report TUI got a problem of not
refreshing the first character.
Since the previous patch restores the column width of "overhead" to 7
we can start at column 0 now.

Current hpp format functions assume that the output will fit to 6
character including % sign (XX.YY%) so used "%5.2f%%" as a format
string. However it might be the case if collapsing resulted in a single
entry which has 100.00% (7 character) of period. In this case the output
will be shifted by 1 character.

perf defines both __used and __unused variables to use for marking
unused variables. The variable __used is defined to
__attribute__((__unused__)), which contradicts the kernel definition to
__attribute__((__used__)) for new gcc versions. On Android, __used is
also defined in system headers and this leads to warnings like: warning:
'__used__' attribute ignored
__unused is not defined in the kernel and is not a standard definition.
If __unused is included everywhere instead of __used, this leads to
conflicts with glibc headers, since glibc has a variables with this name
in its headers.
The best approach is to use __maybe_unused, the definition used in the
kernel for __attribute__((unused)). In this way there is only one
definition in perf sources (instead of 2 definitions that point to the
same thing: __used and __unused) and it works on both Linux and Android.
This patch simply replaces all instances of __used and __unused with
__maybe_unused.

When a field separator is given, the output format doesn't need to be
fancy like aligning to column length, coloring the percent value and so
on. And since there's a slight difference to normal format, fix it not
to break backward compatibility.

Current hist print functions are messy because it has to consider many
of command line options and the code doing that is scattered around to
places. So when someone wants to add an option to manipulate the hist
output it'd very easy to miss to update all of them in sync. And things
getting worse as more options/features are added continuously.
So I'd like to refactor them using hpp formats and move common code to
ui/hist.c in order to make it easy to maintain and to add new features.

Currently the gtk_main_quit() is called twice when perf exits so the
following warning is emitted:

Perf uses GNU-specific version of strerror_r(). The GNU-specific strerror_r()
returns a pointer to a string containing the error message. This may be either
a pointer to a string that the function stores in buf, or a pointer to some
(immutable) static string (in which case buf is unused).
In glibc-2.16 GNU version was marked with attribute warn_unused_result. It
triggers few warnings in perf:

To avoid having to resort to --stdio, that expands everything, instead
allow the user to go on expanding the relevant callchains and then press
'P' to print that view.
As the hists browser is used for both static (report) and dynamic (top)
views, it prints to a 'perf.hists.N' sequence, i.e. multiple snapshots
can be taken in report and top.

bothering the main window. It'll be used for showing a warning message.

When hide_src_view is true we can't use browser_disasm_line->idx, that
takes into account also non asm lines, we must use browser_disasm_line->idx_asm
instead, otherwise we may end up with an index after the number of
entries, oops, fix it.

The commit dc41b9b8f0 ("perf ui: Change fallback policy of
setup_browser") changed default behavior of the function but missed
setting the use_browser variable to 0 accidently. So perf report ends up
doing nothing in such cases. Fix it.

Just press 'J' and see how many places jump to jump targets.
The hottest jump target appears in red, targets with more than one
source have a different color than single source jump targets.

The first column (columns in the near future) are for the per line event
overhead(s), that only appear when they are not zero.
To clearly separate it, add back a solid vertical line, with just one
colour, not influenced by the per line overheads.
Then have the addr/offset column, then optionally the dynamic
(static in the future) jump->target arrows, if 'j' enables it.
Then the instructions.

Now setup_browser can handle gtk2 front-end so split the TUI code to
ui/tui/setup.c in order to remove dependency.
To this end, make ui__init/exit global symbols and take an argument.
Also split gtk code to ui/gtk/setup.c.

Instead of trying to show the current loop by naively looking for the
next backward jump, just use 'j' to toggle showing arrows connecting
jump with its target.
And do it for forward jumps as well.
Loop detection requires more code to follow the flow control, etc.

We were using ins_ops->target for callq addresses and jump offsets,
disambiguate by having ins_ops->target.addr and ins_ops->target.offset.
For jumps we'll need both to fixup lines that don't have an offset on

Its not just an rb_node, it carries extra state that is private to the
browser. And will carry some more in the next patches.
Better name it browser_disasm_line, i.e. something derived from
disasm_line, that specializes it.
