12) VXLAN device driver, one way to handle VLAN issues such as the

41f63c5359 workqueue: use mod_delayed_work() instead of cancel + queue
Convert delayed_work users doing cancel_delayed_work() followed by
queue_delayed_work() to mod_delayed_work().

Most conversions are straight-forward.  Ones worth mentioning are,

* drivers/edac/edac_mc.c: edac_mc_workq_setup() converted to always
  use mod_delayed_work() and cancel loop in
  edac_mc_reset_delay_period() is dropped.

* drivers/platform/x86/thinkpad_acpi.c: No need to remember whether
  watchdog is active or not.  @fan_watchdog_active and related code
  dropped.

* drivers/power/charger-manager.c: Seemingly a lot of
  delayed_work_pending() abuse going on here.
  [delayed_]work_pending() are unsynchronized and racy when used like
  this.  I converted one instance in fullbatt_handler().  Please
  conver the rest so that it invokes workqueue APIs for the intended
  target state rather than trying to game work item pending state
  transitions.  e.g. if timer should be modified - call
  mod_delayed_work(), canceled - call cancel_delayed_work[_sync]().

* drivers/thermal/thermal_sys.c: thermal_zone_device_set_polling()
  simplified.  Note that round_jiffies() calls in this function are
  meaningless.  round_jiffies() work on absolute jiffies not delta
  delay used by delayed_work.

v2: Tomi pointed out that __cancel_delayed_work() users can't be
    safely converted to mod_delayed_work().  They could be calling it
    from irq context and if that happens while delayed_work_timer_fn()
    is running, it could deadlock.  __cancel_delayed_work() users are
    dropped.

36323f817a mac80211: move TX station pointer and restructure TX
Remove the control.sta pointer from ieee80211_tx_info to free up
sufficient space in the TX skb control buffer for the upcoming
Transmit Power Control (TPC).
Instead, the pointer is now on the stack in a new control struct
that is passed as a function parameter to the drivers' tx method.

2c208890c6 wireless: Remove casts to same type
Adding casts of objects to the same type is unnecessary
and confusing for a human reader.

For example, this cast:

        int y;
        int *p = (int *)&y;

I used the coccinelle script below to find and remove these
unnecessary casts.  I manually removed the conversions this
script produces of casts with __force, __iomem and __user.

e1f12eb6ba USB: Disable hub-initiated LPM for comms devices.
Hub-initiated LPM is not good for USB communications devices.  Comms
devices should be able to tell when their link can go into a lower power
state, because they know when an incoming transmission is finished.
Ideally, these devices would slam their links into a lower power state,
using the device-initiated LPM, after finishing the last packet of their
data transfer.

If we enable the idle timeouts for the parent hubs to enable
hub-initiated LPM, we will get a lot of useless LPM packets on the bus
as the devices reject LPM transitions when they're in the middle of
receiving data.  Worse, some devices might blindly accept the
hub-initiated LPM and power down their radios while they're in the
middle of receiving a transmission.

The Intel Windows folks are disabling hub-initiated LPM for all USB
communications devices under a xHCI USB 3.0 host.  In order to keep
the Linux behavior as close as possible to Windows, we need to do the
same in Linux.

Set the disable_hub_initiated_lpm flag for for all USB communications
drivers.  I know there aren't currently any USB 3.0 devices that
implement these class specifications, but we should be ready if they do.

02f1434d4e zd1211rw: wait between setting hash table and powering radio on
I am running Debian testing kernel 3.1.0-1-amd64, using a 079b:0062 Sagem
XG-76NA 802.11bg stick.

Upon zd1211rw interface
bringup (ifconfig wlan0 up) I get the following timeout:

e81a7bd555 zd1211rw: firmware needs duration_id set to zero for non-pspoll frames
Some devices (iwl5100) cannot connect to zd1211rw based AP. It appears that
zd1211 firmware messes up duration_id field if it is not set to zero by driver.

Sniffing traffic shows that zd1211 is transmitting frames with duration_id bits
14 and 15 set and other bits appearing random. Setting duration_id at driver to
zero results zd1211 outputting sane duration_id. This means that firmware is
setting correct values itself and expects duration_id to be zero in first
place.

Looking at vendor driver shows that only PSPoll frames have duration_id set by
driver, for other frames duration_id left zero.

55f7782e14 zd1211rw: detect stalled beacon interrupt faster
As USB_INT_ID_RETRY_FAILED can override USB_INT_ID_REGS, beacon interrupt
(CR_INTERRUPT) might be lost. Problem is that when device trigger CR_INTERRUPT
it disables HW interrupt. Now if USB_INT_ID_REGS with CR_INTERRUPT gets lost,
beacon interrupt stays disabled until beacon watchdog notices the stall. This
happen very often on heavy TX. Improve watchdog to trigger earlier, after three
missing beacon interrupts.

dde4673b8d zd1211rw: don't let zd_mac_config_beacon() run too long from beacon interrupt handler
zd_mac_config_beacon() has only limited time to set up beacon when called from
beacon interrupt handler/worker. So do not let it retry acquiring beacon fifo
semaphore in interrupt handler. Beacon fifo semaphore should not be locked by
firmware anyway at this time, it's only locked when device is using/txing
beacon.

c900eff30a zd1211rw: handle lost read-reg interrupts
Device losses read-reg interrupts. By looking at usbmon it appears that
USB_INT_ID_RETRY_FAILED can override USB_INT_ID_REGS. This causes read
command to timeout, usually under heavy TX.

Fix by retrying read registers again if USB_INT_ID_RETRY_FAILED is received
while waiting for USB_INT_ID_REGS.

However USB_INT_ID_REGS is not always lost but is received after
USB_INT_ID_RETRY_FAILED and is usually received by the retried read
command. USB_INT_ID_REGS of the retry is then left unhandled and might
be received by next read command. Handle this by ignoring previous
USB_INT_ID_REGS that doesn't match current read command request.

7a1d6564a1 zd1211rw: fix invalid signal values from device
Driver uses IEEE80211_HW_SIGNAL_UNSPEC and so signal values reported to
mac80211 should be in range 0..100. Sometimes device return out of range
values. These out of range values can then trigger warning in
cfg80211_inform_bss_frame.

This patch adds checks to enforce range returned from driver to
mac80211 be in 0..100 range.

Commit 37939810b9 assumed that endpoint is
always interrupt type and changed usb_bulk_msg() calls to usb_interrupt_msg().

Problem here is that usb_bulk_msg() on interrupt endpoint selfcorrects the
call and changes requested pipe to interrupt type (see usb_bulk_msg).
However with usb_interrupt_msg() on bulk endpoint does not correct the
pipe type to bulk, but instead URB is submitted with interrupt type pipe.

So pre-2.6.39 used usb_bulk_msg() and therefore worked with both endpoint
types, however in 2.6.39 usb_interrupt_msg() with bulk endpoint causes
ohci_hcd to fail submitted URB instantly with -ENOSPC and preventing zd1211rw
from working with OHCI.

Fix this by detecting endpoint type and using correct endpoint/pipe types
for URB. Also fix asynchronous zd_usb_iowrite16v_async() to use right
URB type on 'EP 4 OUT'.

fbd5d17b8e zd1211rw: rename CR* macros to ZD_CR*
With compat-wireless CR* macros in zd_usb.h conflict with CR macros in
include/asm-generic/termbits.h. So rename CR* macros to ZD_CR*.

Conversion was done with using sed and then 'over 80 character line'
checkpatch.pl warnings and comment indents were fixed.

2fc713b204 zd1211rw: remove URB_SHORT_NOT_OK flag in zd_usb_iowrite16v_async()
Patch removes the bogus flag introduced by upstream commit
eefdbec1ea. Old code had buffer length check
that new code tried to handle with URB_SHORT_NOT_OK flag. With USB debugging
enabled bogus flag caused usb_submit_urb fail.

Remove URB_SHORT_NOT_OK flag and add buffer length check to urb completion
handler.

7bb4568372 mac80211: make tx() operation return void
The return value of the tx operation is commonly
misused by drivers, leading to errors. All drivers
will drop frames if they fail to TX the frame, and
they must also properly manage the queues (if they
didn't, mac80211 would already warn).

Removing the ability for drivers to return a BUSY
value also allows significant cleanups of the TX
TX handling code in mac80211.

Note that this also fixes a bug in ath9k_htc, the
old "return -1" there was wrong.

Writing beacon to device happen through multiple write command calls.
zd_usb_iowrite16v uses synchronous urb call and with multiple write
commands in row causes high CPU usage.

Make asynchronous zd_usb_iowrite16v_async available outside zd_usb.c
and use where possible.

This lower CPU usage from ~10% to ~2% on Intel Atom when running
AP-mode with 100 TU beacon interval.

Writing beacon to device happen through multiple write command calls.
zd_usb_iowrite16v uses synchronous urb call and with multiple write
commands in row causes high CPU usage.

This patch makes zd_usb_iowrite16v use asynchronous urb submit within
zd_usb.c. zd_usb_iowrite16v_async_start is used to initiate writing
multiple commands to device using zd_usb_iowrite16v_async. Each URB
is delayed and submitted to device by next zd_usb_iowrite16v_async
call or by call to zd_usb_iowrite16v_async_end. URBs submitted by
zd_usb_iowrite16v_async have URB_NO_INTERRUPT set and last URB
send by zd_usb_iowrite16v_async_end does not. This lower CPU
usage when doing writes that require multiple URBs.

37939810b9 zd1211rw: correct use of usb_bulk_msg on interrupt endpoints
zd1211rw is using usb_bulk_msg() with usb_sndbulkpipe() on interrupt endpoint.
However usb_bulk_msg() internally corrects this and makes interrupt URB.

It's better to change usb_bulk_msgs in zd1211rw to usb_interrupt_msg for less
confusion.

3985a46543 zd1211rw: reset device when CR_BCN_FIFO_SEMAPHORE freezes in beacon setup
When driver fails to acquire device semaphore lock, device usually
freezes soon afterwards. So failing to acquire lock indicates us that
not everything is going right in device/fw. So reset device when
this happens.

a0fd751f09 zd1211rw: add TX watchdog and device resetting
When doing transfers at high speed for long time, tx queue can freeze. So add
tx watchdog. TX-watchdog checks for locked tx-urbs and reset hardware when
such is detected. Merely unlinking urb was not enough, device have to be
reseted. Hw settings are restored so that any open link will stay on after
reset.

AP beacon to lock up for long for example. Checking timeouts on device
it's easy to see that 1 sec timeout is not needed, when device fails
to response longer timeout doesn't help:

5127229292 zd1211rw: batch beacon config commands together
Beacon config function writes beacon to hw one write per byte. This is very
slow (usually taking more than 100ms to finish) and causes high CPU usage
when in AP-mode (kworker at ~50% on Intel Atom N270). By batching commands
together zd_mac_config_beacon() runtime can be lowered to 1/5th and lower
CPU usage to saner levels (<10% on Atom).

9be2325636 zd1211rw: add beacon watchdog and setting HW beacon more failsafe
When doing tx/rx at high packet rate (for example simply using ping -f),
device starts to fail to respond to control messages. On non-AP modes
this only causes problems for LED updating code but when we are running
in AP-mode we are writing new beacon to HW usually every 100ms. Now if
control message fails in HW beacon setup, device lock is kept locked
and beacon data partially written. This can and usually does cause:

 1. HW beacon setup fail now on, as driver cannot acquire device lock.
 2. Beacon-done interrupt stop working as device has incomplete beacon.

Therefore make zd_mac_config_beacon() always try to release device lock
and add beacon watchdog to restart beaconing when stall is detected.

Also fix zd_mac_config_beacon() try acquiring device lock for max 500ms,
as what old code appeared to be trying to do using loop and msleep(1).
