Add proper support for L3GD20H gyroscope sensor. In particular:
- use L3GD20H as device name instead of L3GD20
- fix available full scales
- fix available sample frequencies
Note that the original patch listed first below introduced broken support for
this part. The second patch drops the support as it didn't work.

A few reverts here. One was a general failure to notice a device was already
supported by another driver. The second is due to a review comment pointing
out that the original patch was a bad idea and would break existing systems.
Reverts
* bma180
- Revert addition of support for the BMA250E it is already supported by
the bmc150-accel and better supported at that. Oops.
* hi8435
- The fix for cleanup of the reset gpio stuff isn't a good way to go. It
breaks systems where an inverting level convertor is used. The right fix
is to make the original devicetree correct - even if it involves patching
the devicetree in kernel.
New Device Support
* stm32-adc
- STM32H7 support and bindings.
Features
* core
- add a hardware triggered operating mode for systems in which the actual
trigger is never seen by the kernel. This is typically only used when
a device 'can' use other triggers, but if a particular magic one is
enabled the interrupt is effectively handled in hardware and we never see
it.
* st-lsm6dsx
- support active low interrupts.
* stm32-adc
- Make the core adc clock optional as not all hardware supported requires it.
- Make the bus clock optional in the per instance driver as it may be shared
by all instances of the ADC and is handled by the core.
- Rework to have a data structure representing the device type specific
elements.
* stm32-trigger (and counter)
- Use the INDIO_HARDWARE_TRIGGERED_MODE where appropriate.
- Add an attribute to configure device modes for quadrature counting etc.
Clean ups and minor fixes
* IIO core.
- use __sysfs_match_string() helper rather than open coding the same.
* ad7791
- use sysfs_match_string() helper rather than open coding the same.
* aspeed-adc
- handle return value of clk_prepare_enable
* cpcap
- Fix default register values and ensure the battery thermistor is enabled
correctly.
- Fix the reported die temperature where we can - docs are lacking.
- Remove the hung interrupt quirk as no longer happens due to fix in the
mfd driver.
* hi8435
- Remove &s from hi8435_info definition as unneeded and inconsistent.
* hid-sensor-trgger
- Add kconfig depends on IIO_BUFFER (fixes patch in previous series)
* ina2xx
- Make the use of iio_info_mask* elements consistent for all channels.
This doesn't have any visible effect, but acts as clear documentation of
which channels various resulting attributes apply to.
* lpc32xx
- handle the return value of clk_prepare_enable.
* meson-saradc
- NULL instead of 0 for pointer.
* mma9551
- use NULL for GPIO connection ID to aid implementation fo ACPI support.
Here the connection ID doesn't actually tell us anything and it is much
easier to deal with the driver if it's not there.
* mpu6050
- Fix lock issues through use of a local mux.
- Replace sprintf with scnprintf as appropriate.
- Check whoami against all known values. This allows for a small number of
boards where we are really fishing for the part not being present at all.
It is unfortunately common to have undescribed changes to use newer chips.
We paper over this but just emitting a warning for those cases as long as
we know about.
* mxs-lradc

* rcar-adc
- Part of making the naming for this part consistent across the kernel.
* st_accel
- drop some spi_device_id entries for variants with no SPI support
* st_magn

The TSL2563 driver provides three iio channels, two of which are raw ADC
channels (channel 0 and channel 1) in the device and the remaining one
is calculated by the two. The ADC channel 0 only supports programmable
interrupt with threshold settings and this driver supports the event but
the generated event code does not contain the corresponding iio channel
type.
This is going to change userspace ABI. Hopefully fixing this to be
what it should always have been won't break any userspace code.

SPI bus is never generating error during transfer, so to check if
a chip is correctly connected on a SPI bus we enforce whoami check
to be correct. In this way we can assure SPI probe is failing if
there is no chip connected.
Note that this is really papering over boards that claim the device
is there when it isn't. Not a bad thing to cope with, but not
necessarily stable material.

While using GPIO library API we might get into troubles in the future,
because we can't rely on label name in the driver since vendor firmware
might provide any GPIO pin there, e.g. "reset", and even mark it in _DSD
(in which case the request will fail).
To avoid inconsistency and potential issues we have two options:
a) generate GPIO ACPI mapping table and supply it via
acpi_dev_add_driver_gpios(), or
b) just pass NULL as connection ID.
The b) approach is much simpler and would work since the driver relies
on GPIO indices only. Moreover, the _CRS fallback mechanism, when
requesting GPIO, is going to be stricter, and supplying non-NULL
connection ID when neither _DSD, nor GPIO ACPI mapping is present, will
make request fail.

meson_sar_adc_clear_fifo passes a 0 as value-pointer to regmap_read().
In case of the meson-saradc driver this ends up in regmap_mmio_read(),
where the value-pointer is de-referenced unconditionally to assign the
value which was read.
Fix this by passing an actual pointer, even though all we want to do is
to discard the value.

It seems that "MC13783 Power Management and Audio Ciruit User's Guide"
MC1378UG.pdf documents several similar components as in the CPCAP PMIC.
Chapter "9.5.5 Die Temperature and UID" says that the die temperature
value is 282 at 25C with LSB of -1.14C. Converting CPCAP PMIC channel3
values with following seems to produce values that make sense for a
PMIC die:
temperature = 25000 + ((regval - 282) * 114)
As we don't have any other documentation, let's assume the die
temperature is unconfigured in the Motorola mapphone Linux kernel
and the current temperature conversion table should be only used
for the battery thermistor and not for the die temperature.

Looking at the register dumps from Android kernel on droid 4, I noticed
the values with the mainline kernel don't match. Let's fix this by
initializing the ADC registers to what Android does.
For getting correct values from the battery thermistor, we need to
toggle the CPCAP_BIT_THERMBIAS_EN when measuring battery temperature
to get correct battery temperatures. And looks like we also need to
wait a little bit before reading the battery temperature as otherwise
the results are inaccurate.

- Fix parent device being used in devm functions.
For the sake of DT binding stability, this IIO driver is a child of an
MFD driver for Allwinner A10, A13 and A31 because there already exists a
DT binding for this IP. The MFD driver has a DT node but the IIO driver
does not.
The IIO device registers the temperature sensor in the thermal framework
using the DT node of the parent, the MFD device, so the thermal
framework could match the phandle to the MFD device in the DT and the
struct device used to register in the thermal framework.
devm_thermal_zone_of_sensor_register was previously used to register the
thermal sensor with the parent struct device of the IIO device,
representing the MFD device. By doing so, we registered actually the
parent in the devm routine and not the actual IIO device.
This lead to the devm unregister function not being called when the IIO
module driver is removed. It resulted in the thermal framework still
polling the get_temp function of the IIO module while the device doesn't
exist anymore, thus generated a kernel panic.
Use the non-devm function instead and do the unregister manually in the
remove function.

This is an upstream port of an IIO driver for the TI ADC108S102 and
ADC128S102. The former can be found on the Intel Galileo Gen2 and the
Siemens SIMATIC IOT2000. For those boards, ACPI-based enumeration is
included.
Due to the lack of regulators under ACPI, we hard-code the voltage
provided to the VA pin of the ADC to 5 V, the value used on Galileo and
IOT2000. For DT usage, the regulator "vref-supply" provides this
information. Note that DT usage has not been tested.

The third argument of devm_request_threaded_irq() is the primary
handler. It is called in hardirq context and checks whether the
interrupt is relevant to the device. If the primary handler returns
IRQ_WAKE_THREAD, the secondary handler (a.k.a. handler thread) is
scheduled to run in process context.
bcm_iproc_adc.c uses the secondary handler as the primary one
and the other way around. So this patch fixes the same, along with
re-naming the secondary handler and primary handler names properly.

Reset GPIO is active low.
Currently driver uses gpiod_set_value(1) to clean reset, which depends
on device tree to contain GPIO_ACTIVE_HIGH - that does not match reality.
This fixes driver to use _raw version of gpiod_set_value() to enforce
active-low semantics despite of what's written in device tree. Allowing
device tree to override that only opens possibility for errors and does
not add any value.

feature in IIO core to implement such feature. This feature is used in
bmc150-accel-core.c to implement batch mode. This implementation allows
software device buffer watermark to be used as a hint to adjust hardware
FIFO.
But HID sensor hubs don't allow to change internal buffer size of FIFOs.
Instead an additional usage id to set "maximum report latency" is defined.
This allows host to go to sleep upto this latency period without getting
any report. Since there is no ABI to set this latency, a new attribute
"hwfifo_timeout" is added so that user mode can specify a latency.
This change checks presence of usage id to get/set maximum report latency
and if present, it will expose hwfifo_timeout.

The Linear Technology LTC2631, LTC2633 and LTC2635 are very similar
to the AD5064 device, in particular the LTC2627.
This patch adds support for those devices. Only the LTC2633 has been
tested, which is the 2-channel variant. The LTC2631 is the 1-channel,
and the LTC2635 the 4-channel version. The actual DAC resolution depends
on the exact chip type and can be 12, 10 or 8 bits, using the upper bits
so this has no effect on the register map. The internal reference is set
to 2.5V on "L" versions, and it's 4.096V for "H" versions.

Pull hw lockdown support from David Howells:
"Annotation of module parameters that configure hardware resources
including ioports, iomem addresses, irq lines and dma channels.
This allows a future patch to prohibit the use of such module
parameters to prevent that hardware from being abused to gain access
to the running kernel image as part of locking the kernel down under
UEFI secure boot conditions.
Annotations are made by changing:
module_param(n, t, p)
module_param_named(n, v, t, p)
module_param_array(n, t, m, p)
to:
module_param_hw(n, t, hwtype, p)
module_param_hw_named(n, v, t, hwtype, p)
module_param_hw_array(n, t, hwtype, m, p)
where the module parameter refers to a hardware setting
hwtype specifies the type of the resource being configured. This can
be one of:
ioport Module parameter configures an I/O port
iomem Module parameter configures an I/O mem address
ioport_or_iomem Module parameter could be either (runtime set)
irq Module parameter configures an I/O port
dma Module parameter configures a DMA channel
dma_addr Module parameter configures a DMA buffer address
other Module parameter configures some other value
Note that the hwtype is compile checked, but not currently stored (the
lockdown code probably won't require it). It is, however, there for
future use.
A bonus is that the hwtype can also be used for grepping.
The intention is for the kernel to ignore or reject attempts to set
annotated module parameters if lockdown is enabled. This applies to
options passed on the boot command line, passed to insmod/modprobe or
direct twiddling in /sys/module/ parameter files.
The module initialisation then needs to handle the parameter not being
set, by (1) giving an error, (2) probing for a value or (3) using a
reasonable default.
What I can't do is just reject a module out of hand because it may
take a hardware setting in the module parameters. Some important
modules, some ipmi stuff for instance, both probe for hardware and
allow hardware to be manually specified; if the driver is aborts with
any error, you don't get any ipmi hardware.
Further, trying to do this entirely in the module initialisation code
doesn't protect against sysfs twiddling.
[!] Note that in and of itself, this series of patches should have no
effect on the the size of the kernel or code execution - that is
left to a patch in the next series to effect. It does mark
annotated kernel parameters with a KERNEL_PARAM_FL_HWPARAM flag in
an already existing field"

Meson GX SoCs however use some magic bits to prevent simultaneous (=
conflicting, because only consumer should use the FIFO buffer with the
ADC results) usage by the Linux kernel and the bootloader (the BL30
bootloader uses the SAR ADC to read the CPU temperature).
This patch changes guards all BL30 functionality so it is skipped on
SoCs which don't have it. Since the hardware itself doesn't know whether
BL30 is available the internal meson_sar_adc_data is extended so this
information can be provided per of_device_id.data inside the driver.
Additionally the clocks "adc_clk" and "adc_sel" are not provided by the
clock-controller itself. "adc_sel" is not available at all. "adc_clk"
is provided by the SAR ADC IP block itself on Meson8b (and earlier).
This is already supported by the meson_saradc driver.
Finally this introduces new of_device_ids for the Meson8 and Meson8b
SoCs so the driver can be wired up in the corresponding DT.

This patch fixes the sensor platform data initialisation for st_pressure
and st_accel device drivers. Without this patch, the driver fails to
register the sensors when the user removes and re-loads the driver.
1. Unload the kernel modules for st_pressure
$ sudo rmmod st_pressure_i2c
$ sudo rmmod st_pressure
2. Re-load the driver
$ sudo insmod st_pressure

When the kernel is running in secure boot mode, we lock down the kernel to
prevent userspace from modifying the running kernel image. Whilst this
includes prohibiting access to things like /dev/mem, it must also prevent
access by means of configuring driver modules in such a way as to cause a
device to access or modify the kernel image.
To this end, annotate module_param* statements that refer to hardware
configuration and indicate for future reference what type of parameter they
specify. The parameter parser in the core sees this information and can
skip such parameters with an error message if the kernel is locked down.
The module initialisation then runs as normal, but just sees whatever the
default values for those parameters is.
Note that we do still need to do the module initialisation because some
drivers have viable defaults set in case parameters aren't specified and
some drivers support automatic configuration (e.g. PNP or PCI) in addition
to manually coded parameters.
This patch annotates drivers in drivers/iio/.

interpreted as unsigned because of unsigned variables used. These values as
well as the constants need to be casted to signed as indicated by the

Add support for STMicroelectronics STM32 DAC. It's a 12-bit, voltage
output digital-to-analog converter. It has two output channels, each
with its own converter.
It supports 8 bits or 12bits left/right aligned data format. Only
12bits right-aligned is used here. It has built-in noise or
triangle waveform generator, and supports external triggers for
conversions.
Each channel can be used independently, with separate trigger, then
separate IIO devices are used to handle this. Core driver is intended
to share common resources such as clock, reset, reference voltage and
registers.

This adds max1117/max1118/max1119 8-bit, dual-channel ADC driver.
This new driver uses the zero length spi_transfers with the cs_change
flag set and/or the non-zero delay_usecs.
1. The zero length transfer with the spi_transfer.cs_change set is
required in order to select CH1. The chip select line must be brought
high and low again without transfer.
2. The zero length transfer with the spi_transfer.delay_usecs > 0 is
required for waiting the conversion to be complete. The conversion
begins with the falling edge of the chip select. During the conversion
process, SCLK is ignored.
These two usages are unusual. But the spi controller drivers that use
a default implementation of transfer_one_message() are likely to work.
(I've tested this adc driver with spi-omap2-mcspi and spi-xilinx)
On the other hand, some spi controller drivers that have their own
transfer_one_message() may not work. But at least for the zero length
transfer with delay_usecs > 0, I'm proposing a new testcase for the
spi-loopback-test that can test whether the delay_usecs setting has
taken effect.

The Qualcomm PM8xxx PMICs contain a simpler ADC than its
successors (already in the kernel as qcom-spmi-vadc.c):
the HK/XO ADC (Housekeeping/Chrystal oscillator ADC).
As far as I can understand this is equal to the PMICs
using SSBI transport and encompass PM8018, PM8038,
PM8058, and PM8921, so this is shortly named PM8xxx.
This ADC monitors a bunch of on-board voltages and the die
temperature of the PMIC itself, but it can also be routed
to convert a few external MPPs (multi-purpose pins). On
the APQ8060 DragonBoard this feature is used to let this
ADC convert an analog ALS (Ambient Light Sensor) voltage
signal from a Capella CM3605 ALS into a LUX value.
Developed and tested with APQ8060 DragonBoard based on
Ivan's driver and Rama Krishna's patches. The SPMI VADC
driver is quite different, but share enough minor
functionality that I have split out to the common file
in a previous patch.

The SPMI VADC and the earlier XOADC share a subset of
common code, so to be able to use the same code in both
drivers, we break out a separate file with the common code,
prefix exported functions that are no longer static with
qcom_* and bake an object qcom-spmi-vadc.o that contains both
files: qcom-vadc-common.o and qcom-spmi-vadc-core.o.
As we need to follow the procedure for making a kernel module
or compiled in object from several files, but still want to
produce the same module name, rename the qcom-spmi-vadc.c
file to qcom-spmi-vadc-core.c so we can bake the two objects

This adds support for the Allwinner A33 thermal sensor.
Unlike the A10, A13 and A31, the Allwinner A33 only has one channel
which is dedicated to the thermal sensor. Moreover, its thermal sensor
does not generate interruptions, thus we only need to directly read the
register storing the temperature value.
The MFD used by the A10, A13 and A31, was created to avoid breaking the
DT binding, but since the nodes for the ADC weren't there for the A33,
it is not needed.
Though the A33 does not have an internal ADC, it has a thermal sensor
which shares the same registers with GPADC of the already supported SoCs
and almost the same bits, for the same purpose (thermal sensor).
The thermal sensor behaves exactly the same (except the presence of
interrupts or not) on the different SoCs.

This moves code used in MFD probing to a new sun4i_gpadc_probe_mfd
function.
This driver was initially written for A10, A13 and A31 SoCs which
already had a DT binding for this IP, thus we needed to use an MFD to
probe the different drivers without changing the DT binding of these
SoCs.
For SoCs that will require to create a DT binding for this IP, we can
avoid using an MFD, thus we need two separate functions: one for probing
via MFD and one for probing without MFD.
This split the code specific to MFD probing in a function separated from
the driver probe function.

When prescaler (PSC) is 0, it means div factor is 1: counter clock
frequency is equal to input clk / (PSC + 1).
When reload value is 8 for example, counter counts 9 cycles, from 0 to 8.
This is handled in frequency write routine, by writing respectively:
- prescaler - 1 to PSC
- reload value - 1 to ARR
This fix does the opposite when reading the frequency from PSC and ARR:
- prescaler is PSC + 1
- reload value is ARR + 1
Thus, PSC may be 0, depending on requested sampling frequency (div 1).
In this case, reading freq wrongly reports 0, instead of computing and
reporting correct value.
Remove test on !psc and !arr.
Small test on stm32f4 (example on tim1_trgo), before this fix:
$ cd /sys/bus/iio/devices/triggerX
$ echo 10000 > sampling_frequency
$ cat sampling_frequency
0
After this fix:
$ echo 10000 > sampling_frequency
$ cat sampling_frequency

This change undo the change done by 'commit 3bec247474
("iio: hid-sensor-trigger: Change get poll value function order to avoid
sensor properties losing after resume from S3")' as this breaks some
USB/i2c sensor hubs.
Instead of relying on HW for restoring poll and hysteresis, driver stores
and restores on resume (S3). In this way user space modified settings are
not lost for any kind of sensor hub behavior.
In this change, whenever user space modifies sampling frequency or
hysteresis driver will get the feature value from the hub and store in the
per device hid_sensor_common data structure. On resume callback from S3,
system will set the feature to sensor hub, if user space ever modified the
feature value.

This patch allows to avoid a transitory that occurs when a given sensor
has been already enabled (e.g. gyroscope) and the user is configuring
the sample frequency of the other one (e.g. accelerometer).
The transitory lasts until the accelerometer is enabled.
During that time slice the gyroscope ODR is incorrectly modified as well.
At the end of the transitory both sensors work at the right frequency.
Fix it introducing st_lsm6dsx_check_odr() routine to check ODR consistency
in write_raw handler in order to apply frequency configuration just
in st_lsm6dsx_set_odr()

When system bootup without get sensor property, set sensor
property will be fail.
If no get_feature operation done before set_feature, the sensor
properties will all be the initialized value, which is not the
same with sensor real properties. When set sensor property it will
write back to sensor the changed perperty data combines with other
sensor properties data, it is not right and may be dangerous.
In order to get all sensor properties, choose to read one of the sensor
properties(no matter read any sensor peroperty, driver will get all
the peroperties and return the requested one).

With CONFIG_THERMAL=m and CONFIG_SUN4I_GPADC=y, we get a link error
from calling devm_thermal_zone_of_sensor_register:
drivers/iio/built-in.o: In function `sun4i_gpadc_probe':
:(.text+0x1c284): undefined reference to `devm_thermal_zone_of_sensor_register'
This adds a Kconfig dependency to ensure we can only have the ADC
driver as built-in when this function is also built-in, or when
we see the empty stub implementation. When the thermal code is
a module, we can still build the adc driver as a module, too.

When both accel_3d and gravity sensor are present, iio_device_register()
fails with "Duplicate scan index" error.
The reason for this is setting of indio_dev->num_channels based on
accel_3d channel for both gravity and accel-3d sensor. But number of
channels are not same, so for gravity it is pointing to some invalid
memory and getting scan_index to compare which may match.
To fix this issue, set the indio_dev->num_channels correctly based on
the sensor type.

Fix formatting of negative values of type IIO_VAL_FRACTIONAL_LOG2 by

div_s64_rem(). Also use shift_right for shifting, which is safe with

The mpu9250 is a SIP containing an mpu6500 and an ak8975. If this was all
there was too it there would be no need for explicit handling in the driver.
Arguably the bindings would also only reflect the presence of an mpu6500 with
the ak8975 hanging off it, as the kernel doesn't care that they are in one
package.
However, the WHOAMI value changes as well so best to add explicit support.

On Motorola phones like droid 4 there is a custom CPCAP PMIC. This PMIC
has ADCs that are used for battery charging and USB PHY VBUS and ID pin
detection.
Unfortunately the only documentation for this ADC seems to be the
Motorola mapphone Linux kernel tree. I have tested that reading raw and
scaled values works, but I have not used the timed sampling that the ADC
seems to support.
Let's add a minimal support for it so we can eventually provide IIO
channels for the related battery charging and USB PHY drivers.

The gyroscope chip might need to be reset to be used.
Without the chip being reset, the driver stopped at the first
regmap_read (to get the CHIP_ID) and failed to probe.
The datasheet of the gyroscope says that a minimum wait of 30ms after
the reset has to be done.
This patch has been checked on a BMX055 and the datasheet of the BMG160

Replace the open coded registration of the cdev and dev with the
new device_add_cdev() helper. The helper replaces a common pattern by
taking the proper reference against the parent device and adding both
the cdev and the device.
In doing so we have to remove a guard statement from cdev_del,

The driver doesn't have a struct of_device_id table but supported devices
are registered via Device Trees. This is working on the assumption that a

that the MODALIAS reported will always be of the form i2c:<device>.

The tiadc_irq_h(int irq, void *private) function is handling FIFO
overruns by clearing flags, disabling and enabling the ADC to
recover.
If the ADC is running in continuous mode a FIFO overrun happens
regularly. If the disabling of the ADC happens concurrently with
a new conversion. It might happen that the enabling of the ADC
is ignored by the hardware. This stops the ADC permanently. No
more interrupts are triggered.
According to the AM335x Reference Manual (SPRUH73H October 2011 -
Revised April 2013 - Chapter 12.4 and 12.5) it is necessary to
check the ADC FSM bits in REG_ADCFSM before enabling the ADC
again. Because the disabling of the ADC is done right after the
current conversion has been finished.
To trigger this bug it is necessary to run the ADC in continuous
mode. The ADC values of all channels need to be read in an endless
loop. The bug appears within the first 6 hours (~5.4 million
handled FIFO overruns). The user space application will hang on
reading new values from the character device.

The Allwinner SoCs all have an ADC that can also act as a touchscreen
controller and a thermal sensor. This patch adds the ADC driver which is
based on the MFD for the same SoCs ADC.
This also registers the thermal adc channel in the iio map array so
iio_hwmon could use it without modifying the Device Tree. This registers
the driver in the thermal framework.
The thermal sensor requires the IP to be in touchscreen mode to return
correct values. Therefore, if the user is continuously reading the ADC
channel(s), the thermal framework in which the thermal sensor is
registered will switch the IP in touchscreen mode to get a temperature
value and requires a delay of 100ms (because of the mode switching),
then the ADC will switch back to ADC mode and requires also a delay of
100ms. If the ADC readings are critical to user and the SoC temperature
is not, this driver is capable of not registering the thermal sensor in
the thermal framework and thus, "quicken" the ADC readings.
This driver probes on three different platform_device_id to take into
account slight differences (registers bit and temperature computation)
between Allwinner SoCs ADCs.

In function _hid_sensor_power_state(), when hid_sensor_read_poll_value()
is called, sensor's all properties will be updated by the value from
sensor hardware/firmware.
In some implementation, sensor hardware/firmware will do a power cycle
during S3. In this case, after resume, once hid_sensor_read_poll_value()
is called, sensor's all properties which are kept by driver during S3
will be changed to default value.
But instead, if a set feature function is called first, sensor
hardware/firmware will be recovered to the last status. So change the
sensor_hub_set_feature() calling order to behind of set feature function
to avoid sensor properties lose.

After sampling there should always be only one value in the FIFO.
This also applies to averaging mode as the averaging is done
chip-internally. So we don't have to loop and let the driver
complain if there's not exactly one value in the FIFO.
If the value belongs to a different channel then don't silently
swallow the value but complain.

There are a few more little cleanups that could be done on this driver, but
I don't think any are sufficient to justify not moving it out of staging.
It's a very simple driver (presumably for a simple part) so not much that can
go wrong. I think it was only ever in staging because that's where IIO was
as a whole at the time and then we forgot about it!

There are some unanswered questions due to disagreements between the code
and various datasheets (including between different datasheets for the same
part).
I don't think that is necessarily a reason to keep it in staging however.
I'm partly posting this patch inorder to reignite debate and with a bit
of luck find someone who has one of these to test!

The flag register is offset by 1 from the respective channel data
register. This patch fixes an off-by-one error when attempting to read a
channel flag register where the base address was not properly offset.

Fixes a regression triggered by a change in the layout of
struct iio_chan_spec, but the real bug is in the driver which assumed
a specific structure layout in the first place. Hint: the three bits were
not OR:ed together as implied by the indentation prior to this patch,
there was a comma between the first two, which accidentally moved the
..._SCALE and ..._OFFSET bits to the next structure field. That field
was .info_mask_shared_by_type before the _available attributes was added
by commit 5123960007 ("iio:core: add a callback to allow drivers to
provide _available attributes") and .info_mask_separate_available
afterwards, and the regression happened.
info_mask_shared_by_type is actually a better choice than the originally
intended info_mask_separate for the ..._SCALE and ..._OFFSET bits since
a constant is returned from mpl115_read_raw for the scale/offset. Using
info_mask_shared_by_type also preserves the behavior from before the
regression and is therefore less likely to cause other interesting side
effects.
The above mentioned regression causes unintended sysfs attibutes to
show up that are not backed by code, in turn causing a NULL pointer
defererence to happen on access.

MAX30102 is an heart rate and pulse oximeter sensor that works using
two LEDS of different wavelengths, and detecting the light reflected
back.
This patchset adds support for both IR and RED LED channels which can
be processed in userspace to determine heart rate and blood oxygen
levels. The MAX30102 part isn't completely register and functional

If we get an unknown 'childmode' value, a number of variables are not
initialized properly:
drivers/iio/adc/rcar-gyroadc.c: In function 'rcar_gyroadc_probe':
drivers/iio/adc/rcar-gyroadc.c:390:5: error: 'num_channels' may be used uninitialized in this function [-Werror=maybe-uninitialized]
drivers/iio/adc/rcar-gyroadc.c:426:22: error: 'sample_width' may be used uninitialized in this function [-Werror=maybe-uninitialized]
drivers/iio/adc/rcar-gyroadc.c:428:23: error: 'channels' may be used uninitialized in this function [-Werror=maybe-uninitialized]
The driver is currently correct, but handling this properly is more robust
for possible modifications.
There is also a false-positive warning about adcmode being possibly uninitialized,
but that cannot happen as we also check the 'first' flag:
drivers/iio/adc/rcar-gyroadc.c:398:26: error: 'adcmode' may be used uninitialized in this function [-Werror=maybe-uninitialized]
This adds an initialization for 'adcmode' and bails out for any unknown childmode.

This patch adds support for the ultrasonic ranger srf04 of devantech.
This device is measuring the distance of objects in a range between 1 cm
and 3 meters and a theoretical resolution of 3 mm.
There are two GPIOs used:
- trigger: set as output to the device when the measurement should start
- echo: set by the device when the ultrasonic wave is sent out and reset
when the echo is recognized; this needs to be an interrupt input
The time between setting and resetting the echo pin is the time the
waveform needed for one round trip. This time is recorded in the interrupt
handler.
The distance is calculated in the read function by using the ultrasonic
speed at 20 degrees celsius which is about 343 m/s.

This is the IIO driver for devantech srf08 ultrasonic ranger which can be
used to measure the distances to an object.
The sensor supports I2C with some registers.
Supported Features include:
- read the distance in ranging mode in centimeters
- output of the driver is directly the read value
- together with the scale the driver delivers the distance in meters
- only the first echo of the nearest object is delivered
- set sensitivity as analog value in the range of 0-31 means setting
gain register on device
- set range registers; userspace enters max. range in millimeters in
43 mm steps
Features not supported by this driver:
- ranging mode in inches or in microseconds
- ANN mode
- change I2C address through this driver
- light sensor
The driver was added in the directory "proximity" of the iio subsystem and
the menu in den config is now called "Proximity and distance sensors"

This adds support for the SAR (Successive Approximation Register) ADC
on the Amlogic Meson SoCs.
The code is based on the public S805 (Meson8b) and S905 (GXBB)
datasheets (see [0] and [1]), as well as by reading (various versions
of) the vendor driver and by inspecting the registers on the vendor
kernels of my testing-hardware.
Currently the GXBB, GXL and GXM SoCs are supported. GXBB hardware has
10-bit ADC resolution, while GXL and GXM have 12-bit ADC resolution.
The code was written to support older SoCs (Meson8 and Meson8b) as well,
but due to lack of actual testing-hardware no of_device_id was added for
these.
Two "features" from the vendor driver are currently missing:
- the vendor driver uses channel #7 for calibration (this improves the
accuracy of the results - in my tests the results were less than 3%
off without calibration compared to the vendor driver). Adding support
for this should be easy, but is not required for most applications.
- channel #6 is connected to the SoCs internal temperature sensor.
Adding support for this is probably not so easy since (based on the
u-boot sources) most SoC versions are using different registers and
algorithms for the conversion from "ADC value" to temperature.
Supported by the hardware but currently not supported by the driver:
- reading multiple channels at the same time (the hardware has a FIFO
buffer which stores multiple results)
- continuous sampling (this would require a way to enable this
individually because otherwise the ADC would be drawing power
constantly)
- interrupt support (similar to the vendor driver this new driver is
polling the results. It is unclear if the IRQ-mode is supported on
older (Meson6 or Meson8) hardware as well or if there are any errata)

Timers IPs can be used to generate triggers for other IPs like
DAC or ADC.
Each trigger may result of timer internals signals like counter enable,
reset or edge, this configuration could be done through "master_mode"
device attribute.
Since triggers could be used by DAC or ADC their names are defined
in include/ nux/iio/timer/stm32-timer-trigger.h and is_stm32_iio_timer_trigger
function could be used to check if the trigger is valid or not.
"trgo" trigger have a "sampling_frequency" attribute which allow to configure
timer sampling frequency.
version 8:
- change kernel version from 4.10 to 4.11 in ABI documentation
version 7:
- remove all iio_device related code
- move driver into trigger directory
version 5:
- simplify tables of triggers
- only create an IIO device when needed
version 4:
- get triggers configuration from "reg" in DT
- add tables of triggers
- sampling frequency is enable/disable when writing in trigger
sampling_frequency attribute
- no more use of interruptions
version 3:
- change compatible to "st,stm32-timer-trigger"
- fix attributes access right
- use string instead of int for master_mode and slave_mode
- document device attributes in sysfs-bus-iio-timer-stm32
version 2:

commit 762227721f
"iio: accel: st_accel: handle deprecated bindings"
attempted to be smart and let users use the old I2C
driver and the new SPI driver, or the old SPI driver and
the new I2C driver in combination for the LIS3LV02,
and put the restrictions on the I2C and SPI subdrivers
not not be combined with the old subdrivers.
This doesn't work since the IIO ST accel top-level
component selects the I2C and SPI subdrivers, resulting
in the following Kconfig noise:
warning: (IIO_ST_ACCEL_3AXIS) selects IIO_ST_ACCEL_I2C_3AXIS
which has unmet direct dependencies (IIO && !SENSORS_LIS3_I2C
&& IIO_ST_ACCEL_3AXIS && IIO_ST_SENSORS_I2C)
warning: (IIO_ST_ACCEL_3AXIS) selects IIO_ST_ACCEL_SPI_3AXIS
which has unmet direct dependencies (IIO && !SENSORS_LIS3_SPI
&& IIO_ST_ACCEL_3AXIS && IIO_ST_SENSORS_SPI)
(...)
This fixes the issue by putting the dependencies directly
in the top-level component instead, so that it never gets
to select its unselectable subcomponent.

These stand-alone trigger drivers were using iio_trigger_put()
where they should have been using iio_trigger_free(). The
iio_trigger_put() adds a module_put which is bad since they
never did a module_get.
In the sysfs driver, module_get/put's are used as triggers are
added & removed. This extra module_put() occurs on an error path
in the probe routine (probably rare).
In the bfin-timer & interrupt trigger drivers, the module resources
are not explicitly managed, so it's doing a put on something that
was never get'd. It occurs on the probe error path and on the
remove path (not so rare).
Tested with the sysfs trigger driver.
The bfin & interrupt drivers were build tested & inspected only.

The DHT22 (AM2302) datasheet specifies that the LOW start pulse should not
exceed 20ms. However, observations with an oscilloscope of an RPi Model 2B
(rev 1.1) communicating with a DHT22 sensor showed that the driver was
consistently sending start pulses longer than 20ms:
Kernel 4.7.10-v7+ (n=132):
Minimum pulse length: 20.20ms
Maximum: 29.84ms
Mean: 24.96ms
StDev: 2.82ms
Sensor response rate: 100%
Read success rate: 76%
On kernel 4.8, the start pulse was so long that the sensor would not even
respond 97% of the time:
Kernel 4.8.16-v7+ (n=100):
Minimum pulse length: 30.4ms
Maximum: 74.4ms
Mean: 39.3ms
StDev: 10.2ms
Sensor response rate: 3%
Read success rate: 3%
The driver would return ETIMEDOUT and write log messages like this:
[ 51.430987] dht11 dht11@0: Only 1 signal edges detected
[ 66.311019] dht11 dht11@0: Only 0 signal edges detected
Replacing msleep(18) with usleep_range(18000, 20000) made the pulse length
sane again and restored responsiveness:
Kernel 4.8.16-v7+ with usleep_range (n=123):
Minimum pulse length: 18.16ms
Maximum: 20.20ms
Mean: 19.85ms
StDev: 0.51ms

In iio_trigger_write_current() we find the trigger we want while
holding mutex on the list of triggers, but we don't actually do a
get on it while holding mutex. We wait until further validations
are completed and we're sure it's the one we want. Race condition
is that it could be freed by the time we do the get.
Solution is to grab the trigger (iio_trigger_get) as soon as we
find it while holding mutex on the list of triggers. If later
we decide it's not the right one, put it back. (iio_trigger_put).

When a consumer calls iio_read_channel_processed() the IIO core
tries to apply scaling to the value, but if the channel only
supports reading raw values, we should return that raw value
to the cosumer instead of an error.
This is what userspace is expected to do with sensors only
providing raw values so the kernel should do the same, so as to
avoid adding scaling boilerplate to drivers for hardware that
actually return processed values from raw reads.
A sensor not providing a scale, but providing a _raw attribute
could be valid if for example the scale is the default of 1,
but an offset needs to be applied to convert to the _processed

This is the IIO driver for AVIA HX711 ADC which is mostly used in weighting
cells.
The protocol is quite simple and using GPIOs:
One GPIO is used as clock (SCK) while another GPIO is read (DOUT)
The raw value read from the chip is delivered.
To get a weight one needs to subtract the zero offset and scale it.

For some reason the axp288_adc driver was modifying the
AXP288_ADC_TS_PIN_CTRL register, changing bits 0-1 depending on
whether the GP_ADC channel or another channel was written.
These bits control when a bias current is send to the TS_PIN, the
GP_ADC has its own pin and a separate bit in another register to
control the bias current.
Not only does changing when to enable the TS_PIN bias current
(always or only when sampling) when reading the GP_ADC make no sense
at all, the code is modifying these bits is writing the entire register,
assuming that all the other bits have their default value.
So if the firmware has configured a different bias-current for either
pin, then that change gets clobbered by the write, likewise if the
firmware has set bit 2 to indicate that the battery has no thermal sensor,
this will get clobbered by the write.
This commit fixes all this, by simply removing all writes to the
AXP288_ADC_TS_PIN_CTRL register, they are not needed to read the
GP_ADC pin, and can actually be harmful.

buffer.h supplies everything needed for devices using buffers.
buffer_impl.h supplies access to the internals as needed to write
a buffer implementation.
This was really motivated by the mess that turned up in the
kernel-doc documentation pulled in by the new sphinx docs.
It made it clear that our logical separations in headers were
generally terrible. The buffer case was easy to sort out without
greatly effecting drivers so here it is.
