While investigating performance problems on small RPC workloads,
I noticed linux TCP stack was always splitting the last TSO skb
into two parts (skbs). One being a multiple of MSS, and a small one
with the Push flag. This split is done even if TCP_NODELAY is set,
or if no small packet is in flight.

We can avoid this split by including the Nagle tests at the right place.
Note : If some NIC had trouble sending TSO packets with a partial
last segment, we would have hit the problem in GRO/forwarding workload already.
tcp_minshall_update() is moved to tcp_output.c and is updated as we might
feed a TSO packet with a partial last segment.
This patch tremendously improves performance, as the traffic now looks
like :

Indeed, the occupancy of tx skbs (IpExtOutOctets/IpOutRequests) is higher :
2099 instead of 1417, thus helping GRO to be more efficient when using FQ packet
scheduler.

These function to manipulate multiple addresses are not used anywhere
in current net-next tree. Some out of tree code maybe using these but
too bad; they should submit their code upstream..

fixes. I provided a few things for Bluetooth coexistence.
Besides this we have an implementation for low priority scan."
Along with all that, there are big batches of updates to mwifiex and
ath9k, Jeff Kirsher's FSF address fix patches, and a handful of other
bits here and there.

Members of 'struct association' are not in appropriate order to
reuse compiler added padding on 64bit architectures. In this patch
we reorder those struct members and help reduce the size of the
structure from 2776 bytes to 2720 bytes on 64 bit architectures.

We introduce a new hashing library that is meant to be used in
the contexts where speed is more important than uniformity of the
hashed values. The hash library leverages architecture specific
implementation to achieve high performance and fall backs to
jhash() for the generic case.
On Intel-based x86 architectures, the library can exploit the crc32l
instruction, part of the Intel SSE4.2 instruction set, if the
instruction is supported by the processor. This implementation
is twice as fast as the jhash() implementation on an i7 processor.
Additional architectures, such as Arm64 provide instructions for
accelerating the computation of CRC, so they could be added as well
in follow-up work.

Certain drives cannot handle queued TRIM commands properly, even
though support is indicated in the IDENTIFY DEVICE buffer. This patch
allows for disabling the commands for the affected drives and apply it
to the Micron/Crucial M500 SSDs which exhibit incorrect protocol
behavior when issued queued TRIM commands, which could lead to silent
data corruption.

Currently, mac80211 allows drivers to keep RCU-protected station
references that are cleared when the station is removed from the
driver and consequently needs to synchronize twice, once before
removing the station from the driver (so it can guarantee that
the station is no longer used in TX towards the driver) and once
after the station is removed from the driver.
Add a new pre-RCU-synchronisation station removal operation to
the API to allow drivers to clear/invalidate their RCU-protected
station pointers before the RCU synchronisation.
This will allow removing the second synchronisation by changing
the driver API so that the driver may no longer assume a valid
RCU-protected pointer after sta_remove/sta_state returns.
The alternative to this would be to synchronize_rcu() in all the
drivers that currently rely on this behaviour (only iwlmvm) but
that would defeat the purpose.

Some devices with support for mobile networks may have buttons for
enabling/disabling such connection. An example can be Linksys router 54G3G.
We already have KEY_BLUETOOTH, KEY_WLAN and KEY_UWB so it makes sense to
add KEY_WWAN as well. As we already have KEY_WIMAX, use it's value for
KEY_WWAN and make it an alias.

figure out why it breaks things.
2) Fix comparison in netfilter ipset's hash_netnet4_data_equal(), it

3) Freescale FEC driver was DMA mapping the wrong number of bytes, from
Sebastian Siewior.
4) Blackhole and prohibit routes in ipv6 were not doing the right thing
because their ->input and ->output methods were not being assigned
correctly. Now they behave properly like their ipv4 counterparts.

really do not support this feature and will send garbage packets if

The bond_first_slave_rcu() will be used to instead of bond_first_slave()
in rcu_read_lock().
According to the Jay Vosburgh's suggestion, the struct netdev_adjacent
should hide from users who wanted to use it directly. so I package a
new function to get the first slave of the bond.

On ARM (32 bits and 64 bits), the double-word is 8-bytes aligned. This will
result on different structure from Xen and Linux repositories.
As Linux is using __packed__ attribute, it must have a 4-bytes padding before
each "id" field.
This change breaks guest block support with older kernel. IMHO, it's acceptable
because Xen on ARM is still on Tech Preview and the hypercall ABI is not yet
freezed.
Only one architecture (x86_32) doesn't have 64-bit ABI for the block interface.
Don't add padding if Linux is compiled for this architecture.

The tricky part of cache-aligning this structure, that it is getting
inlined in struct net (include/net/net_namespace.h), thus changes to
other netns_xxx structures affects our alignment.
Eric's original patch contained an ambiguity on 32-bit regarding
alignment in struct net. This patch also takes 32-bit into account,
and in case of changed (struct net) alignment sysctl_xxx entries have
been ordered according to how often they are accessed.

include/linux/hugetlb.h: make isolate_huge_page() an inline
Rename old regmap field of "struct sec_pmic_dev" to "regmap_pmic" and
add new regmap for RTC.
On S5M8767A registers were not properly updated and read due to usage of
the same regmap as the PMIC. This could be observed in various hangs,
e.g. in infinite loop during waiting for UDR field change.
On this chip family the RTC has different I2C address than PMIC so
additional regmap is needed.

neigh_priv_len is defined as u8. With all debug enabled struct
ipoib_neigh has 200 bytes. The largest part is sk_buff_head with 96
bytes and here the spinlock with 72 bytes.
The size value still fits in this u8 leaving some room for more.
On -RT struct ipoib_neigh put on weight and has 392 bytes. The main
reason is sk_buff_head with 288 and the fatty here is spinlock with 192
bytes. This does no longer fit into into neigh_priv_len and gcc
complains.
This patch changes neigh_priv_len from being 8bit to 16bit. Since the
following element (dev_id) is 16bit followed by a spinlock which is
aligned, the struct remains with a total size of 3200 (allmodconfig) /
2048 (with as much debug off as possible) bytes on x86-64.
On x86-32 the struct is 1856 (allmodconfig) / 1216 (with as much debug
off as possible) bytes long. The numbers were gained with and without
the patch to prove that this change does not increase the size of the
struct.

This patch modifies the GRO stack to avoid the use of "network_header"
and associated macros like ip_hdr() and ipv6_hdr() in order to allow
an arbitary number of IP hdrs (v4 or v6) to be used in the
encapsulation chain. This lays the foundation for various IP
tunneling support (IP-in-IP, GRE, VXLAN, SIT,...) to be added later.
With this patch, the GRO stack traversing now is mostly based on
skb_gro_offset rather than special hdr offsets saved in skb (e.g.,
skb->network_header). As a result all but the top layer (i.e., the
the transport layer) must have hdrs of the same length in order for
a pkt to be considered for aggregation. Therefore when adding a new
encap layer (e.g., for tunneling), one must check and skip flows
(e.g., by setting NAPI_GRO_CB(p)->same_flow to 0) that have a
different hdr length.
Note that unlike the network header, the transport header can and
will continue to be set by the GRO code since there will be at
most one "transport layer" in the encap chain.

zero_bytemask implementation for the asm-generic, big-endian
word-at-a-time implementation.
On arm64, a clz instruction is used to implement the fls efficiently.

When explicitly hashing the end of a string with the word-at-a-time
interface, we have to be careful which end of the word we pick up.
On big-endian CPUs, the upper-bits will contain the data we're after, so
ensure we generate our masks accordingly (and avoid hashing whatever
random junk may have been sitting after the string).
This patch adds a new dcache helper, bytemask_from_count, which creates
a mask appropriate for the CPU endianness.

- A patch to error handling in the big_key type for huge payloads.
If the payload is larger than the "low limit" and the backing store
allocation fails, then big_key_instantiate() doesn't clear the
payload pointers in the key, assuming them to have been previously
cleared - but only one of them is.
Unfortunately, the garbage collector still calls big_key_destroy()
when sees one of the pointers with a weird value in it (and not
NULL) which it then tries to clean up.
- Three patches to fix the keyring type:
* A patch to fix the hash function to correctly divide keyrings off
from keys in the topology of the tree inside the associative
array. This is only a problem if searching through nested
keyrings - and only if the hash function incorrectly puts the a
keyring outside of the 0 branch of the root node.
* A patch to fix keyrings' use of the associative array. The
__key_link_begin() function initially passes a NULL key pointer
to assoc_array_insert() on the basis that it's holding a place in
the tree whilst it does more allocation and stuff.
This is only a problem when a node contains 16 keys that match at
that level and we want to add an also matching 17th. This should
easily be manufactured with a keyring full of keyrings (without
chucking any other sort of key into the mix) - except for (a)
above which makes it on average adding the 65th keyring.
* A patch to fix searching down through nested keyrings, where any
keyring in the set has more than 16 keyrings and none of the
first keyrings we look through has a match (before the tree
iteration needs to step to a more distal node).

RFC 4191 states in 3.5:
When a host avoids using any non-reachable router X and instead sends
a data packet to another router Y, and the host would have used
router X if router X were reachable, then the host SHOULD probe each
such router X's reachability by sending a single Neighbor
Solicitation to that router's address. A host MUST NOT probe a
router's reachability in the absence of useful traffic that the host
would have sent to the router if it were reachable. In any case,
these probes MUST be rate-limited to no more than one per minute per
router.
Currently, when the neighbour corresponding to a router falls into
NUD_FAILED, it's never considered again. Introduce a new rt6_nud_state
value, RT6_NUD_FAIL_PROBE, which suggests the route should not be used but
should be probed with a single NS. The probe is ratelimited by the existing
code. To better distinguish meanings of the failure values, rename
RT6_NUD_FAIL_SOFT to RT6_NUD_FAIL_DO_RR.

Help of this function says: "in_dev: only on this interface, 0=any interface",
but since commit 39a6d06300 ("[NETNS]: Process inet_confirm_addr in the
correct namespace."), the code supposes that it will never be NULL. This
function is never called with in_dev == NULL, but it's exported and may be used
by an external module.
Because this patch restore the ability to call inet_confirm_addr() with in_dev
== NULL, I partially revert the above commit, as suggested by Julian.

Commit 04f3b31bff ("iscsi-target: Convert iscsi_session statistics to
atomic_long_t") removed the updating of these fields in iscsi (the only
fabric driver that ever touched these counters), and the core has no way
to report or otherwise use the values. Remove the last remnants of

Renesas R-Car development boards use KSZ8041RNLI PHY which for some reason has
ID of 0x00221537 that is not documented for KSZ8041-family PHYs and does not
match the documented ID of 0x0022151x (where 'x' is the revision). We have
to add the new #define PHY_ID_* and new ksphy_driver[] entry, almost the same
as KSZ8041 one, differing only in the 'phy_id' and 'name' fields.

Christian suffers from a bad BIOS that wrecks his i5's TSC sync. This
results in him occasionally seeing time going backwards - which
crashes the scheduler ...
Most of our time accounting can actually handle that except the most
common one; the tick time update of sched_fair.
There is a further problem with that code; previously we assumed that
because we get a tick every TICK_NSEC our time delta could never
exceed 32bits and math was simpler.
However, ever since Frederic managed to get NO_HZ_FULL merged; this is
no longer the case since now a task can run for a long time indeed
without getting a tick. It only takes about ~4.2 seconds to overflow
our u32 in nanoseconds.
This means we not only need to better deal with time going backwards;
but also means we need to be able to deal with large deltas.
This patch reworks the entire code and uses mul_u64_u32_shr() as
proposed by Andy a long while ago.
We express our virtual time scale factor in a u32 multiplier and shift
right and the 32bit mul_u64_u32_shr() implementation reduces to a
single 32x32->64 multiply if the time delta is still short (common
case).
For 64bit a 64x64->128 multiply can be used if ARCH_SUPPORTS_INT128.

While hunting a preemption issue with Alexander, Ben noticed that the
currently generic PREEMPT_NEED_RESCHED stuff is horribly broken for
load-store architectures.
We currently rely on the IPI to fold TIF_NEED_RESCHED into
PREEMPT_NEED_RESCHED, but when this IPI lands while we already have
a load for the preempt-count but before the store, the store will erase
the PREEMPT_NEED_RESCHED change.
The current preempt-count only works on load-store archs because
interrupts are assumed to be completely balanced wrt their preempt_count
fiddling; the previous preempt_count load will match the preempt_count
state after the interrupt and therefore nothing gets lost.
This patch removes the PREEMPT_NEED_RESCHED usage from generic code and
pushes it into x86 arch code; the generic code goes back to relying on
TIF_NEED_RESCHED.
Boot tested on x86_64 and compile tested on ppc64.

TIPC is currently using the field 'af_packet_priv' in struct net_device
as a handle to find the bearer instance associated to the given network
device. But, by doing so it is blocking other networking cleanups, such
as the one discussed here:

This commit removes this usage from TIPC. Instead, we introduce a new
field, 'tipc_ptr', to the net_device structure, to serve this purpose.
When TIPC bearer is enabled, the bearer object is associated to
'tipc_ptr'. When a TIPC packet arrives in the recv_msg() upcall
from a networking device, the bearer object can now be obtained from
'tipc_ptr'. When a bearer is disabled, the bearer object is detached
from its underlying network device by setting 'tipc_ptr' to NULL.
Additionally, an RCU lock is used to protect the new pointer.
Henceforth, the existing tipc_net_lock is used in write mode to
serialize write accesses to this pointer, while the new RCU lock is
applied on the read side to ensure that the pointer is 100% valid
within its wrapped area for all readers.

Currently, sctp associations latch a sockets autoclose value to an association
at association init time, subject to capping constraints from the max_autoclose
sysctl value. This leads to an odd situation where an application may set a
socket level autoclose timeout, but sliently sctp will limit the autoclose
timeout to something less than that.
Fix this by modifying the autoclose setsockopt function to check the limit, cap
it and warn the user via syslog that the timeout is capped. This will allow
getsockopt to return valid autoclose timeout values that reflect what subsequent
associations actually use.
While were at it, also elimintate the assoc->autoclose variable, it duplicates
whats in the timeout array, which leads to multiple sources for the same
information, that may differ (as the former isn't subject to any capping). This
gives us the timeout information in a canonical place and saves some space in
the association structure as well.

unix_dgram_recvmsg() will hold the readlock of the socket until recv
is complete.
In the same time, we may try to setsockopt(SO_PEEK_OFF) which will hang until
unix_dgram_recvmsg() will complete (which can take a while) without allowing
us to break out of it, triggering a hung task spew.
Instead, allow set_peek_off to fail, this way userspace will not hang.

When compiling with icc, <linux/compiler-gcc.h> ends up included
because the icc environment defines __GNUC__. Thus, we neither need
nor want to have this macro defined in both compiler-gcc.h and
compiler-intel.h, and the fact that they are inconsistent just makes
the compiler spew warnings.

snd_pcm_uframes_t is defined as unsigned long so it would take
different sizes depending on 32 or 64bit architectures. As we don't
want this ABI incompatibility, and there is no real 64bit user yet,
let's make it the fixed size with __u32.
Also bump the protocol version number to 0.1.2.

When running a 32bit kernel the hda_intel driver is still reporting
a 64bit dma_mask if the HW supports it.

snd_malloc_dev_pages a machine address bigger than 32bit can be returned.
This can be true in particular if running the 32bit kernel as a pv dom0
under the Xen Hypervisor or PAE on bare metal.
The problem is that when calling setup_bdle to program the BLE the
dma_addr_t returned from the dma_alloc_coherent is wrongly truncated
from snd_sgbuf_get_addr if running a 32bit kernel:

Without this patch the HW will fetch the 32bit truncated address,

The current implementation of IPV6_FLOWINFO only gives a
result if pktoptions is available (thanks to the
ip6_datagram_recv_ctl function).
It gives inconsistent results to user space, sometimes
there is a result for getsockopt(IPV6_FLOWINFO), sometimes
not.
This patch add rcv_flowinfo to store it, and return it to
the userspace in the same way than other pkt_options.

If CONFIG_HAVE_EFFICIENT_UNALIGNED_ACCESS is set,
several is_<foo>_ether_addr functions can be slightly
improved by using u32 dereferences.
I believe all current uses of is_zero_ether_addr and
is_broadcast_ether_addr are u16 aligned, so always use
u16 references to improve those functions performance.
Document the u16 alignment requirements.

Previously inet devices were only constructed when addresses are added.
Therefore the default neigh parms values they get are the ones at the
time of these operations.
Now that we're creating inet devices earlier, this changes the behaviour
of default neigh parms values in an incompatible way (see bug #8519).
This patch creates a compromise by setting the default values at the
same point as before but only for those that have not been explicitly
set by the user since the inet device's creation.

The PHY library already reads the MII_STAT1000 and MII_LPA registers in
genphy_read_status(), so extend it to also populate the PHY device link
partner advertised features such that we can feed this back into ethtool
when asked for it in phy_ethtool_gset().

This patch introduces a PACKET_QDISC_BYPASS socket option, that
allows for using a similar xmit() function as in pktgen instead
of taking the dev_queue_xmit() path. This can be very useful when
PF_PACKET applications are required to be used in a similar
scenario as pktgen, but with full, flexible packet payload that
needs to be provided, for example.
On default, nothing changes in behaviour for normal PF_PACKET
TX users, so everything stays as is for applications. New users,
however, can now set PACKET_QDISC_BYPASS if needed to prevent
own packets from i) reentering packet_rcv() and ii) to directly
push the frame to the driver.
In doing so we can increase pps (here 64 byte packets) for
PF_PACKET a bit:

The test was done using a modified trafgen, sending a simple
static 64 bytes packet, on all CPUs. The trick in the fast
"qdisc path" case, is to avoid reentering packet_rcv() by
setting the RAW socket protocol to zero, like:

Tradeoffs are documented as well in this patch, clearly, if
queues are busy, we will drop more packets, tc disciplines are
ignored, and these packets are not visible to taps anymore. For
a pktgen like scenario, we argue that this is acceptable.
The pointer to the xmit function has been placed in packet
socket structure hole between cached_dev and prot_hook that
is hot anyway as we're working on cached_dev in each send path.

Commit 6da7c8fcbc ("qdisc: allow setting default queuing discipline")
added the ability to change default qdisc from pfifo_fast to say fq
But as most modern ethernet devices are multiqueue, we cant really
see all the statistics from "tc -s qdisc show", as the default root
qdisc is mq.

The Buffalo device WZR-HP-G450H uses the index 3 for TX gain,
which is set to the high_power table currently. Later variants
of the router use the same index, but instead refer to the
low_ob_db gain table. This is not handled in the driver since
there is no way to distinguish board revisions and the high_power
table is used (incorrectly) for the newer variants.
By default, devices based on AR9300 using the TX gain index 3 have
to use the high_power table. To make sure that WZR-HP-G450H is not
broken when the high_power table is updated, use a separate array
based on information obtained from the platform data.
The current situation where only the original variant of WZR-HP-G450H
works properly stays unchanged.

This patch adds a new nft module named "nft_queue" which provides
a new nftables expression that allows you to enqueue packets to
userspace via the nfnetlink_queue subsystem. It provides the same
level of functionality as NFQUEUE and it shares some code with it.

Add a flag to tell the PCI subsystem that kernel is shutting down in
preparation to kexec a kernel. Add code in PCI subsystem to use this flag
to clear Bus Master bit on PCI devices only in case of kexec reboot.
This fixes a power-off problem on Acer Aspire V5-573G and likely other
machines and avoids any other issues caused by clearing Bus Master bit on
PCI devices in normal shutdown path. The problem was introduced by
b566a22c23 ("PCI: disable Bus Master on PCI device shutdown").

Creating an address with this flag set will result in kernel taking care
of temporary addresses in the same way as if the address was created by
kernel itself (after RA receive). This allows userspace applications
implementing the autoconfiguration (NetworkManager for example) to
implement ipv6 addresses privacy.

Some network drivers use dev_kfree_skb_any() and dev_kfree_skb_irq()
helpers to free skbs, both for dropped packets and TX completed ones.
We need to separate the two causes to get better diagnostics
given by dropwatch or "perf record -e skb:kfree_skb"
This patch provides two new helpers, dev_consume_skb_any() and
dev_consume_skb_irq() to be used for consumed skbs.
__dev_kfree_skb_irq() is slightly optimized to remove one
atomic_dec_and_test() in fast path, and use this_cpu_{r|w} accessors.

With the introduction of TCP Small Queues, TSO auto sizing, and TCP
pacing, we can implement Automatic Corking in the kernel, to help
applications doing small write()/sendmsg() to TCP sockets.
Idea is to change tcp_push() to check if the current skb payload is
under skb optimal size (a multiple of MSS bytes)
If under 'size_goal', and at least one packet is still in Qdisc or
NIC TX queues, set the TCP Small Queue Throttled bit, so that the push
will be delayed up to TX completion time.
This delay might allow the application to coalesce more bytes
in the skb in following write()/sendmsg()/sendfile() system calls.
The exact duration of the delay is depending on the dynamics
of the system, and might be zero if no packet for this flow
is actually held in Qdisc or NIC TX ring.
Using FQ/pacing is a way to increase the probability of
autocorking being triggered.
Add a new sysctl (/proc/sys/net/ipv4/tcp_autocorking) to control
this feature and default it to 1 (enabled)
Add a new SNMP counter : nstat -a | grep TcpExtTCPAutoCorking
This counter is incremented every time we detected skb was under used
and its flush was deferred.
Tested:
Interesting effects when using line buffered commands under ssh.
Excellent performance results in term of cpu usage and total throughput.

This is a set of nine fixes (and one author update). The libsas one should fix
discovery in eSATA devices, the WRITE_SAME one is the largest, but it should
fix a lot of problems we've been getting with the emulated RAID devices
(they've been effectively lying about support and then firmware has been

FLOWI_FLAG_CAN_SLEEP was used to notify xfrm about the posibility
to sleep until the needed states are resolved. This code is gone,

We now queue packets to the policy if the states are not yet resolved,
this replaces the ancient sleeping code. Also the sleeping can cause
indefinite task hangs if the needed state does not get resolved.

By semantics, xfrm layer is fully name space aware,
so will the locks, e.g. xfrm_state/pocliy_lock.
Ensure exclusive access into state/policy link list
for different name space with one global lock is not
right in terms of semantics aspect at first place,
as they are indeed mutually independent with each
other, but also more seriously causes scalability
problem.
One practical scenario is on a Open Network Stack,
more than hundreds of lxc tenants acts as routers
within one host, a global xfrm_state/policy_lock
becomes the bottleneck. But onces those locks are
decoupled in a per-namespace fashion, locks contend
is just with in specific name space scope, without
causing additional SPD/SAD access delay for other
name space.
Also this patch improve scalability while as without
changing original xfrm behavior.

kill memcg_tcp_enter_memory_pressure. The only function of
memcg_tcp_enter_memory_pressure was to reduce deal with the
unnecessary abstraction that was tcp_memcontrol. Now that struct
tcp_memcontrol is gone remove this unnecessary function, the
unnecessary function pointer, and modify sk_enter_memory_pressure to
set this field directly, just as sk_leave_memory_pressure cleas this
field directly.
This fixes a small bug I intruduced when killing struct tcp_memcontrol
that caused memcg_tcp_enter_memory_pressure to never be called and
thus failed to ever set cg_proto->memory_pressure.
Remove the cg_proto enter_memory_pressure function as it now serves
no useful purpose.
Don't test cg_proto->memory_presser in sk_leave_memory_pressure before
clearing it. The test was originally there to ensure that the pointer
was non-NULL. Now that cg_proto is not a pointer the pointer does not
matter.

The code to detect fragments in checksum_setup() was missing for IPv4 and
too eager for IPv6. (It transpires that Windows seems to send IPv6 packets
with a fragment header even if they are not a fragment - i.e. offset is zero,
and M bit is not set).
This patch also incorporates a fix to callers of maybe_pull_tail() where
skb->network_header was being erroneously added to the length argument.

When CONFIG_DEBUG_FORCE_WEAK_PER_CPU or CONFIG_ARCH_NEEDS_WEAK_PER_CPU
is set, DEFINE_PER_CPU() explodes into cryptic series of definitions
to still allow using "static" for percpu variables while keeping all
per-cpu symbols unique in the kernel image which is required for weak
symbols. This ultimately converts the actual symbol to global whether
DEFINE_PER_CPU() is prefixed with static or not.
Unfortunately, the macro forgot to add explicit extern declartion of
the actual symbol ending up defining global symbol without preceding
declaration for static definitions which naturally don't have matching
DECLARE_PER_CPU(). The only ill effect is triggering of the following
warnings.

Fix it by adding extern declaration in the DEFINE_PER_CPU() macro.

The values in l2cap_chan that are used for actually transmitting data
only need to be initialized right after we've received an L2CAP Connect
Request or just before we send one. The only thing that we need to
initialize though bind() and connect() is the chan->mode value. This way
all other initializations can be done in the l2cap_le_flowctl_init
function (which now becomes private to l2cap_core.c) and the
l2cap_le_flowctl_start function can be completely removed.
Also, since the l2cap_sock_init function initializes the imtu and omtu
to adequate values these do not need to be part of l2cap_le_flowctl_init.

LE CoC used differend CIC ranges than BR/EDR L2CAP. The start of the
range is the same (0x0040) but the range ends at 0x007f (unlike BR/EDR
where it goes all the way to 0xffff).

Unlike BR/EDR, for LE when we're in the BT_CONNECT state we may or may
not have already have sent the Connect Request. This means that we need
some extra tracking of the request. This patch adds an extra channel
flag to prevent the request from being sent a second time.

Setting the BT_SK_SUSPEND socket flag from the L2CAP core is causing a
dependency on the socket. So instead of doing that, use a channel
callback into the socket handling to suspend.

This patch adds new socket options for LE sockets since the existing
L2CAP_OPTIONS socket option is not usable for LE. For now, the new
socket options also require LE CoC support to be explicitly enabled to
leave some playroom in case something needs to be changed in a backwards
incompatible way.

Along with the L2CAP Connection Oriented Channels features it is now
allowed to use both custom fixed CIDs as well as PSM based (connection
oriented connections). Since the support for this (with the subsequent
patches) is still on an experimental stage, add a module parameter to

When multiple wireless USB devices are connected and one of the devices
disconnects, the host will distribute a new group key to the remaining
devicese using wusbhc_gtk_rekey. wusbhc_gtk_rekey takes the
wusbhc->mutex and holds it while it submits a URB to set the new key.
This causes a deadlock in wa_urb_enqueue when it calls a device lookup
helper function that takes the same lock.
This patch changes wusbhc_gtk_rekey to submit a work item to set the GTK
so that the URB is submitted without holding wusbhc->mutex.

It causes regressions for people using chips driven by the sungem
driver. Suspicion is that the skb->csum value isn't being adjusted
properly.
The change also has a bug in that if __pskb_trim() fails, we'll leave
a corruped skb->csum value in there. We would really need to revert
it to it's original value in that case.

In the original HID sensor hub firmwares all Named array enums were
to 0-based. But the most recent hub implemented as 1-based,
because of the implementation by one of the major OS vendor.
Using logical minimum for the field as the base of enum. So we add
logical minimum to the selector values before setting those fields.
Some sensor hub FWs already changed logical minimum from 0 to 1
to reflect this and hope every other vendor will follow.
There is no easy way to add a common HID quirk for NAry elements,
even if the standard specifies these field as NAry, the collection
used to describe selectors is still just "logical".

Modify tg3_chip_reset() and tg3_close() to check if the PCI network
adapter device is accessible at all in order to skip poking it or
trying to handle a carrier loss in vain when that's not the case.
Introduce a special PCI helper function pci_device_is_present()
for this purpose.
Of course, this uncovers the lack of the appropriate RTNL locking
in tg3_suspend() and tg3_resume(), so add that locking in there
too.
These changes prevent tg3 from burning a CPU at 100% load level for
solid several seconds after the Thunderbolt link is disconnected from
a Matrox DS1 docking station.

Section 4.11.7.1 of rev 1.0 of the xhci specification states that a link TRB
can only occur at a boundary between underlying USB frames (512 bytes for
high speed devices).
If this isn't done the USB frames aren't formatted correctly and, for example,
the USB3 ethernet ax88179_178a card will stop sending (while still receiving)
when running a netperf tcp transmit test with (say) and 8k buffer.
This should be a candidate for stable, the ax88179_178a driver defaults to
gso and tso enabled so it passes a lot of fragmented skb to the USB stack.

This patch fixes a long-standing xHCI driver bug that was revealed by a
change in 3.12 in the usb-net driver. Commit
638c5115a7 "USBNET: support DMA SG" added
support to use bulk endpoint scatter-gather (urb->sg). Only the USB
ethernet drivers trigger this bug, because the mass storage driver sends
sg list entries in page-sized chunks.
This patch only fixes the issue for bulk endpoint scatter-gather. The
problem will still occur for periodic endpoints, because hosts will
interpret no-op transfers as a request to skip a service interval, which
is not what we want.
Luckily, the USB core isn't set up for scatter-gather on isochronous
endpoints, and no USB drivers use scatter-gather for interrupt
endpoints. Document this known limitation so that developers won't try
to use urb->sg for interrupt endpoints until this issue is fixed. The
more comprehensive fix would be to allow link TRBs in the middle of the
endpoint ring and revert this patch, but that fix would touch too much
code to be allowed in for stable.
This patch should be backported to kernels as old as 3.12, that contain
the commit 638c5115a7 "USBNET: support DMA
SG". Without this patch, the USB network device gets wedged, and stops
sending packets. Mark Lord confirms this patch fixes the regression:

We have a problem where the big_key key storage implementation uses a
shmem backed inode to hold the key contents. Because of this detail of
implementation LSM checks are being done between processes trying to
read the keys and the tmpfs backed inode. The LSM checks are already
being handled on the key interface level and should not be enforced at
the inode level (since the inode is an implementation detail, not a
part of the security model)
This patch implements a new function shmem_kernel_file_setup() which
returns the equivalent to shmem_file_setup() only the underlying inode
has S_PRIVATE set. This means that all LSM checks for the inode in
question are skipped. It should only be used for kernel internal
operations where the inode is not exposed to userspace without proper
LSM checking. It is possible that some other users of
shmem_file_setup() should use the new interface, but this has not been
explored.
Reproducing this bug is a little bit difficult. The steps I used on
Fedora are:
(1) Turn off selinux enforcing:
setenforce 0
(2) Create a huge key

There was an inode check between httpd and the tmpfs filesystem. With

audit log if you have tested for this previously)

If sufficient keys (or keyrings) are added into a keyring such that a node in
the associative array's tree overflows (each node has a capacity N, currently
16) and such that all N+1 keys have the same index key segment for that level
of the tree (the level'th nibble of the index key), then assoc_array_insert()
calls ops->diff_objects() to indicate at which bit position the two index keys
vary.
However, __key_link_begin() passes a NULL object to assoc_array_insert() with
the intention of supplying the correct pointer later before we commit the
change. This means that keyring_diff_objects() is given a NULL pointer as one
of its arguments which it does not expect. This results in an oops like the
attached.
With the previous patch to fix the keyring hash function, this can be forced
much more easily by creating a keyring and only adding keyrings to it. Add any
other sort of key and a different insertion path is taken - all 16+1 objects
must want to cluster in the same node slot.
This can be tested by:

This should work fine, but oopses when the 17th keyring is added.
Since ops->diff_objects() is always called with the first pointer pointing to
the object to be inserted (ie. the NULL pointer), we can fix the problem by
changing the to-be-inserted object pointer to point to the index key passed
into assoc_array_insert() instead.
Whilst we're at it, we also switch the arguments so that they are the same as
for ->compare_object().

The channel switch notification should be sent under the
wdev/sdata-lock, preferably in the same moment as the channel change
happens, to avoid races by other callers (e.g. start/stop_ap).
This also adds the previously missing sdata_lock protection in

nla_put_flag needs a real nl80211 attribute id, not a wiphy flag bit.
While at it, split 5 and 10 MHz capability flags in case we ever need
to support hardware that can only do one of the two.
Also move the flag settings to the split-only information so we don't
increase the space needed for old userspace.

Some host adapters do not pass commands through to the target disk
directly. Instead they provide an emulated target which may or may not
accurately report its capabilities. In some cases the physical device
characteristics are reported even when the host adapter is processing
commands on the device's behalf. This can lead to adapter firmware hangs
or excessive I/O errors.
This patch disables WRITE SAME for devices connected to host adapters
that provide an emulated target. Driver writers can disable WRITE SAME
by setting the no_write_same flag in the host adapter template.

Currently retransmitted DATA chunks could also be used for
RTT measurements since there are no flag to identify whether
the transmitted DATA chunk is a new one or a retransmitted one.
This problem is introduced by commit ae19c5486 ("sctp: remove
'resent' bit from the chunk") which inappropriately removed the
'resent' bit completely, instead of doing this, we should set
the resent bit only for the retransmitted DATA chunks.

The pmcraid driver is abusing the genetlink API and is using its
family ID as the multicast group ID, which is invalid and may
belong to somebody else (and likely will.)
Make it use the correct API, but since this may already be used
as-is by userspace, reserve a family ID for this code and also
reserve that group ID to not break userspace assumptions.
My previous patch broke event delivery in the driver as I missed
that it wasn't using the right API and forgot to update it later
in my series.
While changing this, I noticed that the genetlink code could use
the static group ID instead of a strcmp(), so also do that for
the VFS_DQUOT family.

The first netlink attribute (value 0) must always be defined as none/unspec.
This is correctly done in inet_diag.h, but other diag interfaces are wrong.
Because we cannot change an existing API, I add a comment to point the mistake
and avoid to propagate it in a new diag API in the future.

Currently, when mounting pstore file system, a read callback of
efi_pstore driver runs mutiple times as below.
- In the first read callback, scan efivar_sysfs_list from head and pass
a kmsg buffer of a entry to an upper pstore layer.
- In the second read callback, rescan efivar_sysfs_list from the entry
and pass another kmsg buffer to it.
- Repeat the scan and pass until the end of efivar_sysfs_list.
In this process, an entry is read across the multiple read function
calls. To avoid race between the read and erasion, the whole process
above is protected by a spinlock, holding in open() and releasing in
close().
At the same time, kmemdup() is called to pass the buffer to pstore
filesystem during it. And then, it causes a following lockdep warning.
To make the dynamic memory allocation runnable without taking spinlock,
holding off a deletion of sysfs entry if it happens while scanning it
via efi_pstore, and deleting it after the scan is completed.
To implement it, this patch introduces two flags, scanning and deleting,
to efivar_entry.
On the code basis, it seems that all the scanning and deleting logic is
not needed because __efivars->lock are not dropped when reading from the
EFI variable store.
But, the scanning and deleting logic is still needed because an
efi-pstore and a pstore filesystem works as follows.
In case an entry(A) is found, the pointer is saved to psi->data. And
efi_pstore_read() passes the entry(A) to a pstore filesystem by
releasing __efivars->lock.
And then, the pstore filesystem calls efi_pstore_read() again and the
same entry(A), which is saved to psi->data, is used for resuming to scan
a sysfs-list.
So, to protect the entry(A), the logic is needed.

The scatterwalk_crypto_chain function invokes the scatterwalk_sg_chain
function to chain two scatterlists, but the chain pointer indication
bit is not set. When the resulting scatterlist is used, for example,
by sg_nents to count the number of scatterlist entries, a segfault occurs
because sg_nents does not follow the chain pointer to the chained scatterlist.
Update scatterwalk_sg_chain to set the chain pointer indication bit as is
done by the sg_chain function.

This patch adds cpufreq suspend/resume calls to dpm_{suspend|resume}_noirq()
for handling suspend/resume of cpufreq governors.
Lan Tianyu (Intel) & Jinhyuk Choi (Broadcom) found anr issue where
tunables configuration for clusters/sockets with non-boot CPUs was
getting lost after suspend/resume, as we were notifying governors
with CPUFREQ_GOV_POLICY_EXIT on removal of the last cpu for that
policy and so deallocating memory for tunables. This is fixed by
this patch as we don't allow any operation on governors after
device suspend and before device resume now.

Avoid declaring ALIGN() and __aligned() in
include/uapi/linux/mic_common.h since they pollute user space
namespace. Also, mic_aligned_size() can be simply replaced simply by
sizeof() since all structures where mic_aligned_size() is used are
declared using __attribute__ ((aligned(8)));

modprobe foo
echo nop > current_tracer
This causes the ftrace internal accounting to get screwed up and
crashes ftrace, preventing the user from using the function tracer
after that.
2) if a TRACE_EVENT has a string field, and NULL is given for it.
The internal trace event code does a strlen() and strcpy() on the
source of field. If it is NULL it causes the system to oops.
This bug has been there since 2.6.31, but no TRACE_EVENT ever passed
in a NULL to the string field, until now.

In order to support increased build test coverage for drivers, implement
dummies for the powergate implementation. This will allow the drivers to
be built without requiring support for Tegra to be selected.

* 3 cases where kconfig dependencies were missing. We need to keep a closer
eye on this in new drivers.
* hid_sensors was abusing the iio_dev->trigger pointer. We had a round
of clearing this out some time ago but this driver clearly slipped through.
* A misuse of the IIO_ST macro, in mcp3422, which we should really make a
concertive effort to finish removing.
* Avoid a double free introduced by recent buffer reference counting in the
one driver that (quite reasonably!) does things differently (am335x)
* A missing mutex_unlock in kxsd9 that means that driver has been non
functional for some time and no one noticed (including me who for once
actually has one of the supported devices).
* An incorrect assumption about the parameters of sign_extend32 in mcp3422.
So nothing controversial. The only substantial patch is the hid_sensors

Add a new field to ieee80211_chanctx_conf to indicate
the min required channel configuration.
Tuning to a narrower channel might help reducing
the noise level and saving some power.
The min required channel definition is the max of
all min required channel definitions of the interfaces
bound to this channel context.
In AP mode, use 20MHz when there are no connected station.
When a new station is added/removed, calculate the new max
bandwidth supported by any of the stations (e.g. 80MHz when
80MHz and 40MHz stations are connected).
In other cases, simply use bss_conf.chandef as the
min required chandef.
Notify drivers about changes to this field by calling
drv_change_chanctx with a new CHANGE_MIN_WIDTH notification.

Certain vendors may want to disable the processing of
country IEs so that they can continue using the regulatory
domain the driver or user has set. Currently there is no
way to stop the core from processing country IEs, so add
support to the core to ignore country IE hints.

802.11 cards may have different country IE parsing behavioural
preferences and vendors may want to support these. These preferences
were managed by the REGULATORY_CUSTOM_REG and the REGULATORY_STRICT_REG
flags and their combination. Instead of using this existing notation,
split out the country IE behavioural preferences as a new flag. This
will allow us to add more customizations easily and make the code more
maintainable.

This adds generic cipher scheme support to mac80211, such schemes
are fully under control by the driver. On hw registration drivers
may specify additional HW ciphers with a scheme how these ciphers
have to be handled by mac80211 TX/RR. A cipher scheme specifies a
cipher suite value, a size of the security header to be added to
or stripped from frames and how the PN is to be verified on RX.

To report channel width correctly we have
to send correct channel parameters from
mac80211 when calling cfg80211_cac_event().
This is required in case of using channel width
higher than 20MHz and we have to set correct
dfs channel state after CAC (NL80211_DFS_AVAILABLE).

wiphy_apply_custom_regulatory() implies WIPHY_FLAG_CUSTOM_REGULATORY
but we never enforced it, do that now and warn if the driver
didn't set it. All drivers should be following this today already.
Having WIPHY_FLAG_CUSTOM_REGULATORY does not however mean you will
use wiphy_apply_custom_regulatory() though, you may have your own
_orig value set up tools / helpers. The intel drivers are examples
of this type of driver.

These two flags are used for the same purpose, just
combine them into a no-ir flag to annotate no initiating
radiation is allowed.
Old userspace sending either flag will have it treated as
the no-ir flag. To be considerate to older userspace we
also send both the no-ir flag and the old no-ibss flags.
Newer userspace will have to be aware of older kernels.
Update all places in the tree using these flags with the
following semantic patch:

GPIO mapping properties were defined using the GPIOF_* flags, which are
declared in linux/gpio.h. This file is not included when using the
GPIO descriptor interface.
This patch declares the flags that can be used as GPIO mappings
properties in linux/gpio/driver.h, and uses them in gpiolib, so that no
deprecated declarations are used by the GPIO descriptor interface.
This patch also allows GPIO_OPEN_DRAIN and GPIO_OPEN_SOURCE to be
specified as GPIO mapping properties.

SND_SOC_DAPM_MUX() doesn't currently initialize the .mask field. This
results in the mux never affecting HW, since no bits are ever set or
cleared. Fix SND_SOC_DAPM_MUX() to use SND_SOC_DAPM_INIT_REG_VAL() to
set up the reg, shift, on_val, and off_val fields like almost all other
SND_SOC_xxx() macros. It looks like this was a "typo" in the fixed
commit linked below.
This makes the speakers on the Toshiba AC100 (PAZ00) laptop work again.

Commit bceaa90240 ("inet: prevent leakage
of uninitialized memory to user in recv syscalls") conditionally updated
addr_len if the msg_name is written to. The recv_error and rxpmtu
functions relied on the recvmsg functions to set up addr_len before.
As this does not happen any more we have to pass addr_len to those
functions as well and set it to the size of the corresponding sockaddr
length.
This broke traceroute and such.

"Okay. There are a number of separate bits. I'll go over the big bits

(1) Keyring capacity expansion.

Several of the patches are providing an expansion of the capacity of a
keyring. Currently, the maximum size of a keyring payload is one page.
Subtract a small header and then divide up into pointers, that only gives
you ~500 pointers on an x86_64 box. However, since the NFS idmapper uses
a keyring to store ID mapping data, that has proven to be insufficient to
the cause.
Whatever data structure I use to handle the keyring payload, it can only
store pointers to keys, not the keys themselves because several keyrings
may point to a single key. This precludes inserting, say, and rb_node
struct into the key struct for this purpose.
I could make an rbtree of records such that each record has an rb_node
and a key pointer, but that would use four words of space per key stored
in the keyring. It would, however, be able to use much existing code.
I selected instead a non-rebalancing radix-tree type approach as that
could have a better space-used/key-pointer ratio. I could have used the
radix tree implementation that we already have and insert keys into it by
their serial numbers, but that means any sort of search must iterate over
the whole radix tree. Further, its nodes are a bit on the capacious side
for what I want - especially given that key serial numbers are randomly
allocated, thus leaving a lot of empty space in the tree.
So what I have is an associative array that internally is a radix-tree
with 16 pointers per node where the index key is constructed from the key
type pointer and the key description. This means that an exact lookup by
type+description is very fast as this tells us how to navigate directly to
the target key.
I made the data structure general in lib/assoc_array.c as far as it is
concerned, its index key is just a sequence of bits that leads to a
pointer. It's possible that someone else will be able to make use of it
also. FS-Cache might, for example.
(2) Mark keys as 'trusted' and keyrings as 'trusted only'.

These patches allow keys carrying asymmetric public keys to be marked as
being 'trusted' and allow keyrings to be marked as only permitting the
addition or linkage of trusted keys.
Keys loaded from hardware during kernel boot or compiled into the kernel
during build are marked as being trusted automatically. New keys can be
loaded at runtime with add_key(). They are checked against the system
keyring contents and if their signatures can be validated with keys that
are already marked trusted, then they are marked trusted also and can
thus be added into the master keyring.
Patches from Mimi Zohar make this usable with the IMA keyrings also.
(3) Remove the date checks on the key used to validate a module signature.
X.509: Remove certificate date checks
It's not reasonable to reject a signature just because the key that it was
generated with is no longer valid datewise - especially if the kernel
hasn't yet managed to set the system clock when the first module is
loaded - so just remove those checks.
(4) Make it simpler to deal with additional X.509 being loaded into the kernel.

The builder of the kernel now just places files with the extension ".x509"
into the kernel source or build trees and they're concatenated by the
kernel build and stuffed into the appropriate section.
(5) Add support for userspace kerberos to use keyrings.

Fedora went to, by default, storing kerberos tickets and tokens in tmpfs.
We looked at storing it in keyrings instead as that confers certain
advantages such as tickets being automatically deleted after a certain
amount of time and the ability for the kernel to get at these tokens more
easily.
To make this work, two things were needed:
(a) A way for the tickets to persist beyond the lifetime of all a user's
sessions so that cron-driven processes can still use them.
The problem is that a user's session keyrings are deleted when the
session that spawned them logs out and the user's user keyring is
deleted when the UID is deleted (typically when the last log out
happens), so neither of these places is suitable.
I've added a system keyring into which a 'persistent' keyring is
created for each UID on request. Each time a user requests their
persistent keyring, the expiry time on it is set anew. If the user
doesn't ask for it for, say, three days, the keyring is automatically
expired and garbage collected using the existing gc. All the kerberos
tokens it held are then also gc'd.
(b) A key type that can hold really big tickets (up to 1MB in size).
The problem is that Active Directory can return huge tickets with lots
of auxiliary data attached. We don't, however, want to eat up huge
tracts of unswappable kernel space for this, so if the ticket is
greater than a certain size, we create a swappable shmem file and dump
the contents in there and just live with the fact we then have an
inode and a dentry overhead. If the ticket is smaller than that, we
slap it in a kmalloc()'d buffer"

I don't know what went wrong, mis-merge or something, but ->pmd_huge_pte
placed in wrong union within struct page.
In original patch[1] it's placed to union with ->lru and ->slab, but in
commit e009bb30c8 ("mm: implement split page table lock for PMD
level") it's in union with ->index and ->freelist.
That union seems also unused for pages with table tables and safe to
re-use, but it's not what I've tested.
Let's move it to original place. It fixes indentation at least. :)

Commit 7cb2ef56e6 ("mm: fix aio performance regression for database
caused by THP") can cause dereference of a dangling pointer if
split_huge_page runs during PageHuge() if there are updates to the
tail_page->private field.
Also it is repeating compound_head twice for hugetlbfs and it is running
compound_head+compound_trans_head for THP when a single one is needed in
both cases.
The new code within the PageSlab() check doesn't need to verify that the
THP page size is never bigger than the smallest hugetlbfs page size, to
avoid memory corruption.
A longstanding theoretical race condition was found while fixing the
above (see the change right after the skip_unlock label, that is
relevant for the compound_lock path too).
By re-establishing the _mapcount tail refcounting for all compound
pages, this also fixes the below problem:

Right now, the migration code in migrate_page_copy() uses copy_huge_page()
for hugetlbfs and thp pages:
if (PageHuge(page) || PageTransHuge(page))
copy_huge_page(newpage, page);
So, yay for code reuse. But:
void copy_huge_page(struct page *dst, struct page *src)
{
struct hstate *h = page_hstate(src);
and a non-hugetlbfs page has no page_hstate(). This works 99% of the
time because page_hstate() determines the hstate from the page order
alone. Since the page order of a THP page matches the default hugetlbfs
page order, it works.
But, if you change the default huge page size on the boot command-line
(say default_hugepagesz=1G), then we might not even *have* a 2MB hstate
so page_hstate() returns null and copy_huge_page() oopses pretty fast
since copy_huge_page() dereferences the hstate:

Mel noticed that the migration code is really the only user of these
functions. This moves all the copy code over to migrate.c and makes
copy_huge_page() work for THP by checking for it explicitly.

Unfortunately, I introduced a tremendously stupid bug into
genlmsg_multicast() when doing all those multicast group
changes: it adjusts the group number, but then passes it
to genlmsg_multicast_netns() which does that again.
Somehow, my tests failed to catch this, so add a warning
into genlmsg_multicast_netns() and remove the offending
group ID adjustment.
Also add a warning to the similar code in other functions
so people who misuse them are more loudly warned.

This patch now always passes msg->msg_namelen as 0. recvmsg handlers must
set msg_namelen to the proper size <= sizeof(struct sockaddr_storage)
to return msg_name to the user.
This prevents numerous uninitialized memory leaks we had in the
recvmsg handlers and makes it harder for new code to accidentally leak
uninitialized memory.
Optimize for the case recvfrom is called with NULL as address. We don't
need to copy the address at all, so set it to NULL before invoking the
recvmsg handler. We can do so, because all the recvmsg handlers must
cope with the case a plain read() is called on them. read() also sets
msg_name to NULL.
Also document these changes in include/linux/net.h as suggested by David
Miller.
Changes since RFC:
Set msg->msg_name = NULL if user specified a NULL in msg_name but had a
non-null msg_namelen in verify_iovec/verify_compat_iovec. This doesn't
affect sendto as it would bail out earlier while trying to copy-in the
address. It also more naturally reflects the logic by the callers of
verify_iovec.
With this change in place I could remove "
if (!uaddr || msg_sys->msg_namelen == 0)
msg->msg_name = NULL
".
This change does not alter the user visible error logic as we ignore
msg_namelen as long as msg_name is NULL.
Also remove two unnecessary curly brackets in ___sys_recvmsg and change
comments to netdev style.

Doing an if statement to test some condition to know if we should
trigger a tracepoint is pointless when tracing is disabled. This just
adds overhead and wastes a branch prediction. This is why the
TRACE_EVENT_CONDITION() was created. It places the check inside the jump
label so that the branch does not happen unless tracing is enabled.
That is, instead of doing:

Using a TRACE_EVENT_CONDITION() we can just do:

Al points out that while the commit *does* actually create a separate
slab for the page->ptl allocation, that slab is never actually used, and
the code continues to use kmalloc/kfree.
Damien Wyart points out that the original patch did have the conversion
to use kmem_cache_alloc/free, so it got lost somewhere on its way to me.
Revert the half-arsed attempt that didn't do anything. If we really do
want the special slab (remember: this is all relevant just for debug
builds, so it's not necessarily all that critical) we might as well redo
the patch fully.

The PCI host bridge scan handler installs its own notify handler,
handle_hotplug_event_root(), by itself. Nevertheless, the ACPI
hotplug framework also installs the common notify handler,
acpi_hotplug_notify_cb(), for PCI root bridges. This causes
acpi_hotplug_notify_cb() to call _OST method with unsupported
error as hotplug.enabled is not set.
To address this issue, introduce hotplug.ignore flag, which
indicates that the scan handler installs its own notify handler by
itself. The ACPI hotplug framework does not install the common
notify handler when this flag is set.

"[BUG] completely bonkers use of set_need_resched + VM_FAULT_NOPAGE".
In the first occurence it was used to try to be nice while releasing the
mmap_sem and retrying the fault to work around a locking inversion.
The second occurence was never used.
There has been some discussion whether we should change the locking order to
mmap_sem -> bo_reserve. This patch doesn't address that issue, and leaves
that locking order undefined. The solution that we release the mmap_sem if
tryreserve fails and wait for the buffer to become unreserved is something
we want in any case, and follows how the core vm system waits for pages
to be come unlocked while releasing the mmap_sem.
The code also outlines what needs to be changed if we want to establish the
locking order as mmap_sem -> bo::reserve.
One slight issue that remains with this code is that the fault handler might
be prone to starvation if another thread countinously reserves the buffer.
IMO that usage pattern is highly unlikely.

1) Johannes Berg noticed two major deficiencies in our genetlink
registration. Some genetlink protocols we passing in constant
counts for their ops array rather than something like
ARRAY_SIZE(ops) or similar. Also, some genetlink protocols were
using fixed IDs for their multicast groups.
We have to retain these fixed IDs to keep existing userland tools
working, but reserve them so that other multicast groups used by
other protocols can not possibly conflict.
In dealing with these two problems, we actually now use less state
management for genetlink operations and multicast groups.
2) When configuring interface hardware timestamping, fix several
drivers that simply do not validate that the hwtstamp_config value
is one the driver actually supports. From Ben Hutchings.
3) Invalid memory references in mwifiex driver, from Amitkumar Karwar.
4) In dev_forward_skb(), set the skb->protocol in the right order
relative to skb_scrub_packet(). From Alexei Starovoitov.
5) Bridge erroneously fails to use the proper wrapper functions to make
calls to netdev_ops->ndo_vlan_rx_{add,kill}_vid. Fix from Toshiaki
Makita.
6) When detaching a bridge port, make sure to flush all VLAN IDs to
prevent them from leaking, also from Toshiaki Makita.
7) Put in a compromise for TCP Small Queues so that deep queued devices
that delay TX reclaim non-trivially don't have such a performance
decrease. One particularly problematic area is 802.11 AMPDU in

8) Fix crashes in tcp_fastopen_cache_get(), we can see NULL socket dsts
here. Fix from Eric Dumzaet, reported by Dave Jones.
9) Fix use after free in ipv6 SIT driver, from Willem de Bruijn.
10) When computing mergeable buffer sizes, virtio-net fails to take the

17) The xen-netfront RX buffer refill timer isn't properly scheduled on

18) When ipv6 ping protocol support was added, the AF_INET6 protocol
initialization cleanup path on failure was borked a little. Fix
from Vlad Yasevich.
19) If a socket disconnects during a read/recvmsg/recvfrom/etc that
blocks we can do the wrong thing with the msg_name we write back to
userspace. From Hannes Frederic Sowa. There is another fix in the
works from Hannes which will prevent future problems of this nature.

Register generic netlink multicast groups as an array with
the family and give them contiguous group IDs. Then instead
of passing the global group ID to the various functions that
send messages, pass the ID relative to the family - for most
families that's just 0 because the only have one group.
This avoids the list_head and ID in each group, adding a new
field for the mcast group ID offset to the family.
At the same time, this allows us to prevent abusing groups
again like the quota and dropmon code did, since we can now
check that a family only uses a group it owns.

The quota code is abusing the genetlink API and is using
its family ID as the multicast group ID, which is invalid
and may belong to somebody else (and likely will.)
Make the quota code use the correct API, but since this
is already used as-is by userspace, reserve a family ID
for this code and also reserve that group ID to not break
userspace assumptions.

As suggested by David Miller, make genl_register_family_with_ops()
a macro and pass only the array, evaluating ARRAY_SIZE() in the
macro, this is a little safer.
The openvswitch has some indirection, assing ops/n_ops directly in
that code. This might ultimately just assign the pointers in the
family initializations, saving the struct genl_family_and_ops and
code (once mcast groups are handled differently.)

When CONFIG_NFS_V4_2 is toggled nfsd and lockd will be recompiled,
instead of only the nfs client. This patch moves a small amount of code
into the client directory to avoid unnecessary recompiles.

SIOCSHWTSTAMP returns the real configuration to the application
using it, but there is currently no way for any other
application to find out the configuration non-destructively.
Add a new ioctl for this, making it unprivileged.

commit bedd30d986 ("genirq: make irqreturn_t an enum") blindly replaced
"0" by "IRQ_NONE" in the "IRQ_RETVAL(x)" macro definition.
However, as "x" is a condition, "0" meant "boolean false", not an
irqreturn_t value.
All of this worked, and kept working after the addition of IRQ_WAKE_THREAD,
as
- both "boolean false" and "IRQ_NONE" are "0" (for the comparison),
- "boolean true" and "boolean false" nicely map to the correct values of
"IRQ_HANDLED" and "IRQ_NONE" (for the return value).
Correct the macro definition for clarity and future-proofness.

If disk stats are enabled on the queue, a request needs to
be marked with REQ_IO_STAT for accounting to be active on
that request. This fixes an issue with virtio-blk not
showing up in /proc/diskstats after the conversion to
blk-mq.
Add QUEUE_FLAG_MQ_DEFAULT, setting stats and same cpu-group
completion on by default.

Vince's perf-trinity fuzzer found yet another 'interesting' problem.
When we sample the irq_work_exit tracepoint with period==1 (or
PERF_SAMPLE_PERIOD) and we add an fasync SIGNAL handler we create an
infinite event generation loop:

Similar things can happen due to regular poll() wakeups if we exceed
the ring-buffer wakeup watermark, or have an event_limit.
To avoid this, dis-allow sampling this particular tracepoint.
In order to achieve this, create a special perf_perm function pointer
for each event and call this (when set) on trying to create a
tracepoint perf event.

linux/raid/md_p.h is using conditionals depending on endianess and fails
with an error if neither of __BIG_ENDIAN, __LITTLE_ENDIAN or
__BYTE_ORDER are defined, but it doesn't include any header which can
define these constants. This make this header unusable alone.
This patch adds a #include <asm/byteorder.h> at the beginning of this
header to make it usable alone. This is needed to compile klibc on MIPS.

Fix the name of the rx_filter field.
Remove text about 32/64-bit compatibility; this works just the same as
for most socket ioctls and as the structure is not allowed to grow
