According to the doc, V4L2_BUF_FLAG_DONE is cleared after DQBUF:
V4L2_BUF_FLAG_DONE 0x00000004 ... After calling the VIDIOC_QBUF or
VIDIOC_DQBUF it is always cleared ...
Unfortunately, it seems that videobuf2 keeps it set after DQBUF. This
can be tested with vivid and dev_debug:
[257604.338082] video1: VIDIOC_DQBUF: 71:33:25.00260479 index=3,
type=vid-cap, flags=0x00002004, field=none, sequence=163,
memory=userptr, bytesused=460800, offset/userptr=0x344b000,
length=460800
This patch forces FLAG_DONE to 0 after calling DQBUF.

clear enough. Let's clarify it a bit so that it suits their conventions:

2.) Add the warranty disclaimer -- it should not be legally required,
nevertheless the clause 1. of the rights grant refest to it.

When the rc_map table is created the char pointer of the name of the keymap
is copied to the rc_map->name field. However, this pointer points to memory
from the keymap module itself.
Since these keymap modules are not refcounted, that means anyone can call
rmmod to unload that module. Which is not a big deal because the contents of
the map is all copied to rc_map, except for the keymap name.
So after a keymap module is unloaded the name pointer has become stale. Unloading
the rc-core module will now cause a kernel oops in rc_dev_uevent().
The solution is to kstrdup the name so there are no more references to the
keymap module remaining.

It has a single work item(&dev->worker) and hence doesn't require
ordering. Also, it is not being used on a memory reclaim path. Hence,
the singlethreaded workqueue has been replaced with the use of system_wq.
System workqueues have been able to handle high level of concurrency

created with create_singlethread_workqueue(), system_wq allows multiple
work items to overlap executions even on the same CPU; however, a

backport the patch to the stable trees.

risking using different values in different places, and for readability.
While at it also remove some trivial comments about the framerates which

The driver doesn't set the struct v4l2_capability bus_info field so the
v4l2-compliance tool reports the following errors for VIDIOC_QUERYCAP:
Required ioctls:
VIDIOC_QUERYCAP returned 0 (Success)
fail: v4l2-compliance.cpp(304): string empty
fail: v4l2-compliance.cpp(528): check_ustring(vcap.bus_info, sizeof(vcap.bus_info))
test VIDIOC_QUERYCAP: FAIL
This patch fixes by setting the field in VIDIOC_QUERYCAP ioctl handler:

The V4L2 documentation says that applications must call the VIDIOC_REQBUFS
ioctl to determine if a memory mapped, user pointer or DMABUF based I/O is
supported by the driver.
For example GStreamer does this by first calling VIDIOC_REQBUFS with count
zero for all the possible streaming I/O methods and then finally doing the
real VIDIOC_REQBUFS with count N using a known to be supported memory type.
But the driver prints an error on VIDIOC_REQBUFS if the memory type is not
supported which leads to the following errors that can confuse the users:
[ 178.704390] vidioc_reqbufs:575: Only V4L2_MEMORY_MMAP is supported

The VPU driver for hw video codec embedded in Mediatek's MT8173 SOCs.
It is able to handle video decoding/encoding of in a range of formats.
The driver provides with VPU firmware download, memory management and
the communication interface between CPU and VPU.
For VPU initialization, it will create virtual memory for CPU access and
IOMMU address for vcodec hw device access. When a decode/encode instance
opens a device node, vpu driver will download vpu firmware to the device.
A decode/encode instant will decode/encode a frame using VPU
interface to interrupt vpu to handle decoding/encoding jobs.

Let's fix it with minimal changes to pass the dmtimer calls in

1. Change the non-pwm dmtimer to use just hrtimer if possible
2. Change the pwm dmtimer to use Linux PWM API with the new

to dmtimer functions
3. Parse configuration from device tree and drop the pdata

Controls are applied to the hardware in the configure operation of the
VSP entities, which is only called when starting the video stream. To
enable runtime modification of controls we need to call the configure
operations for every frame. Doing so is currently not safe, as most
parameters shouldn't be modified during streaming. Furthermore the
configure operation can sleep, preventing it from being called from the
frame completion interrupt handler for the next frame.
Fix this by adding an argument to the configure operation to tell
entities whether to perform a full configuration (as done now) or a
partial runtime configuration. In the latter case the operation will
only configure the subset of parameters related to runtime-configurable
controls, and won't be allowed to sleep when doing so.
Because partial reconfiguration can depend on parameters computed when
performing a full configuration, the core guarantees that the configure
operation will always be called with full and partial modes in that
order at stream start. Entities thus don't have to duplicate
configuration steps in the full and partial code paths.
This change affects the VSP driver core only, all entities return
immediately from the configure operation when called for a partial
runtime configuration. Entities will be modified one by one in further
commits.

The device is stopped when STREAMOFF is called on the last video node in
the pipeline. This results in possible memory corruption and/or crashes,
as userspace could free buffers while the hardware is still writing to

The vsp1_pipeline_reset() function loops over pipeline inputs and output
and resets them. When doing so it assumes both that the pipeline has
been correctly configured with an output, and that inputs are are stored
in the pipe inputs array at positions 0 to num_inputs-1.
Both the assumptions are incorrect. The pipeline might need to be reset
after a failed attempts to configure it, without any output specified.
Furthermore, inputs are stored in a positiong equal to their RPF index,
possibly creating holes in the inputs array if the RPFs are not used in
sequence.
Fix both issues by looping over the whole inputs array and skipping
unused entries, and ignoring the output when not set.

Currently, the driver has a fixed period size of 4096 bytes
(2048 frames). Since this hardware can configure the audio
capture size, this commit allows a period size range of [512-4096].
This is very useful to reduce the audio latency.

Now that we've introduced the dma_mode parameter to pick the
DMA operation, let's use it to also select the audio DMA
operation.
When dma_mode != memcpy, the driver will avoid using memcpy
in the audio capture path, and the DMA hardware operation
will act directly on the ALSA buffers.

Now that the driver has the infrastructure to support more
DMA modes, let's add the DMA scatter-gather mode.
In this mode, the device delivers sequential top-bottom
frames. The scatter-gather logic is based on staging's
tw686x-kh driver (by Krzysztof Ha?asa).

Now that the driver has the infrastructure to support more
DMA modes, let's add the DMA contiguous interlaced frame mode.
In this mode, the DMA P and B buffers are programmed with
the user-provided buffers. When a P (or B) frame is ready,
a new buffer is dequeued into P (or B).
In addition to interlaced fields, the device can also be
programmed to deliver alternate fields. Only interlaced
mode is supported for now.

Let's set the corner stone to support all the DMA modes
available on this device.
For stability reasons, the driver is currently setting DMA frame
mode, and using single DMA buffers to get the P and B buffers.
Each frame is then memcpy'ed into the user buffer.
However, other platforms might be interested in avoiding this
memcpy, or in taking advantage of the chip's DMA scatter-gather
capabilities.
To achieve this, this commit introduces a "dma_mode" module parameter,
and a tw686x_dma_ops struct. This will allow to define functions to
alloc/free DMA buffers, and to return the frames to userspace.
The memcpy-based method described above is named as dma_mode="memcpy".
Current alloc/free functions are renamed as tw686x_memcpy_xxx,
and are now used through a memcpy_dma_ops.

The vsp1_du_atomic_update_ext() function takes 7 RPF configuration
parameters, and more will likely be added later. This makes the code
difficult to read and error-prone as multiple parameters have the same
type.
Make the API safer and easier to extend in the future by grouping all
parameters in a structure. Use macro magic to ease the transition to the
new function by allowing the old and new functions to be called using
the same name. The macros and static inline wrapper will be removed as

When a buffer is being dequeued using VIDIOC_DQBUF IOCTL, the exact buffer
which will be dequeued is not known until the buffer has been removed from
the queue. The number of planes is specific to a buffer, not to the queue.
This does lead to the situation where multi-plane buffers may be requested
and queued with n planes, but VIDIOC_DQBUF IOCTL may be passed an argument
struct with fewer planes.
__fill_v4l2_buffer() however uses the number of planes from the dequeued
videobuf2 buffer, overwriting kernel memory (the m.planes array allocated
in video_usercopy() in v4l2-ioctl.c) if the user provided fewer
planes than the dequeued buffer had. Oops!

When driver unbinds while media_ioctl is in progress, cdev_put() fails with
when app exits after driver unbinds.
Add devnode struct device kobj as the cdev parent kobject. cdev_add() gets
a reference to it and releases it in cdev_del() ensuring that the devnode
is not deallocated as long as the application has the device file open.
media_devnode_register() initializes the struct device kobj before calling
cdev_add(). media_devnode_unregister() does cdev_del() and then deletes the
device. devnode is released when the last reference to the struct device is
gone.

struct media_devnode is currently embedded at struct media_device.
While this works fine during normal usage, it leads to a race
condition during devnode unregister. the problem is that drivers
assume that, after calling media_device_unregister(), the struct
that contains media_device can be freed. This is not true, as it
can't be freed until userspace closes all opened /dev/media devnodes.
In other words, if the media devnode is still open, and media_device
gets freed, any call to an ioctl will make the core to try to access
struct media_device, with will cause an use-after-free and even GPF.
Fix this by dynamically allocating the struct media_devnode and only
freeing it when it is safe.

Along all media controller code, "mdev" is used to represent
a pointer to struct media_device, and "devnode" for a pointer
to struct media_devnode.
However, inside media-devnode.[ch], "mdev" is used to represent
a pointer to struct media_devnode.
This is very confusing and may lead to development errors.
So, let's change all occurrences at media-devnode.[ch] to
also use "devnode" for such pointers.
This patch doesn't make any functional changes.

User-space applications can use the VIDIOC_REQBUFS ioctl to determine if a
memory mapped, user pointer or DMABUF based I/O is supported by the driver.
So a set of VIDIOC_REQBUFS ioctl calls will be made with count 0 and then
the real VIDIOC_REQBUFS call with count == n. But for count 0, the driver
not only frees the buffer but also closes the MFC instance and s5p_mfc_ctx
state is set to MFCINST_FREE.
The VIDIOC_REQBUFS handler for the output device checks if the s5p_mfc_ctx
state is set to MFCINST_INIT (which happens on an VIDIOC_S_FMT) and fails
otherwise. So after a VIDIOC_REQBUFS(n), future VIDIOC_REQBUFS(n) calls
will fails unless a VIDIOC_S_FMT ioctl calls happens before the reqbufs.
But applications may first set the format and then attempt to determine
the I/O methods supported by the driver (for example Gstramer does it) so
the state won't be set to MFCINST_INIT again and VIDIOC_REQBUFS will fail.
To avoid this issue, only free the buffers on VIDIOC_REQBUFS(0) but don't
close the MFC instance to allow future VIDIOC_REQBUFS(n) calls to succeed.

Signed-off-by: Marek Szyprowski <m.szyprowski@samsung.com>
This patch adds support for IOMMU to s5p-mfc device driver. MFC firmware
is limited and it cannot use the default configuration. If IOMMU is
available, the patch disables the default DMA address space
configuration and creates a new address space of size limited to 256M
and base address set to 0x20000000.
For now the same address space is shared by both 'left' and 'right'
memory channels, because the DMA/IOMMU frameworks do not support
configuring them separately. This is not optimal, but besides limiting
total address space available has no other drawbacks (MFC firmware
supports 256M of address space per each channel).

Add a helper function for device drivers to set DMA's max_seg_size.
Setting it to largest possible value lets DMA-mapping API always create
contiguous mappings in DMA address space. This is essential for all
devices, which use dma-contig videobuf2 memory allocator and shared
buffers.
Till now, the only case when vb2-dma-contig really 'worked' was a case
where userspace provided USERPTR buffer, which was in fact mmaped
contiguous buffer from the other v4l2/drm device. Also DMABUF made of
contiguous buffer worked only when its exporter did not split it into
several chunks in the scatter-list. Any other buffer failed, regardless
of the arch/platform used and the presence of the IOMMU of the device bus.

Pull string hash improvements from George Spelvin:
"This series does several related things:
- Makes the dcache hash (fs/namei.c) useful for general kernel use.
(Thanks to Bruce for noticing the zero-length corner case)
- Converts the string hashes in <linux/sunrpc/svcauth.h> to use the
above.
- Avoids 64-bit multiplies in hash_64() on 32-bit platforms. Two
32-bit multiplies will do well enough.
- Rids the world of the bad hash multipliers in hash_32.
This finishes the job started in commit 689de1d6ca ("Minimal
fix-up of bad hashing behavior of hash_64()")
The vast majority of Linux architectures have hardware support for
32x32-bit multiply and so derive no benefit from "simplified"
multipliers.
The few processors that do not (68000, h8/300 and some models of
Microblaze) have arch-specific implementations added. Those
patches are last in the series.
- Overhauls the dcache hash mixing.
The patch in commit 0fed3ac866 ("namei: Improve hash mixing if
CONFIG_DCACHE_WORD_ACCESS") was an off-the-cuff suggestion.
Replaced with a much more careful design that's simultaneously
faster and better. (My own invention, as there was noting suitable
in the literature I could find. Comments welcome!)
- Modify the hash_name() loop to skip the initial HASH_MIX(). This
would let us salt the hash if we ever wanted to.
- Sort out partial_name_hash().
The hash function is declared as using a long state, even though
it's truncated to 32 bits at the end and the extra internal state
contributes nothing to the result. And some callers do odd things:
- fs/hfs/string.c only allocates 32 bits of state
- fs/hfsplus/unicode.c uses it to hash 16-bit unicode symbols not bytes
- Modify bytemask_from_count to handle inputs of 1..sizeof(long)
rather than 0..sizeof(long)-1. This would simplify users other
than full_name_hash"
Special thanks to Bruce Fields for testing and finding bugs in v1. (I
learned some humbling lessons about "obviously correct" code.)
On the arch-specific front, the m68k assembly has been tested in a
standalone test harness, I've been in contact with the Microblaze
maintainers who mostly don't care, as the hardware multiplier is never
omitted in real-world applications, and I haven't heard anything from
the H8/300 world"

The "simplified" prime multipliers made very bad hash functions, so get rid
of them. This completes the work of 689de1d6ca.
To avoid the inefficiency which was the motivation for the "simplified"
multipliers, hash_64() on 32-bit systems is changed to use a different
algorithm. It makes two calls to hash_32() instead.
drivers/media/usb/dvb-usb-v2/af9015.c uses the old GOLDEN_RATIO_PRIME_32
for some horrible reason, so it inherits a copy of the old definition.

Most users of IS_ERR_VALUE() in the kernel are wrong, as they
pass an 'int' into a function that takes an 'unsigned long'
argument. This happens to work because the type is sign-extended
on 64-bit architectures before it gets converted into an
unsigned type.
However, anything that passes an 'unsigned short' or 'unsigned int'
argument into IS_ERR_VALUE() is guaranteed to be broken, as are
8-bit integers and types that are wider than 'unsigned long'.
Andrzej Hajda has already fixed a lot of the worst abusers that
were causing actual bugs, but it would be nice to prevent any
users that are not passing 'unsigned long' arguments.
This patch changes all users of IS_ERR_VALUE() that I could find
on 32-bit ARM randconfig builds and x86 allmodconfig. For the
moment, this doesn't change the definition of IS_ERR_VALUE()
because there are probably still architecture specific users
elsewhere.
Almost all the warnings I got are for files that are better off
using 'if (err)' or 'if (err < 0)'.
The only legitimate user I could find that we get a warning for
is the (32-bit only) freescale fman driver, so I did not remove
the IS_ERR_VALUE() there but changed the type to 'unsigned long'.
For 9pfs, I just worked around one user whose calling conventions
are so obscure that I did not dare change the behavior.
I was using this definition for testing:
#define IS_ERR_VALUE(x) ((unsigned long*)NULL == (typeof (x)*)NULL && \
unlikely((unsigned long long)(x) >= (unsigned long long)(typeof(x))-MAX_ERRNO))
which ends up making all 16-bit or wider types work correctly with
the most plausible interpretation of what IS_ERR_VALUE() was supposed
to return according to its users, but also causes a compile-time
warning for any users that do not pass an 'unsigned long' argument.
I suggested this approach earlier this year, but back then we ended
up deciding to just fix the users that are obviously broken. After
the initial warning that caused me to get involved in the discussion
(fs/gfs2/dir.c) showed up again in the mainline kernel, Linus
asked me to send the whole thing again.
