a8ebf6075b drm/i915/crc: Make IPS workaround generic
Other features like PSR2 also needs to be disabled while getting CRC
so lets rename ips_force_disable to crc_enabled, drop all this checks
for pipe A and HSW and BDW and make it generic and
hsw_compute_ips_config() will take care of all the checks removed
from here.

d168da8cfc drm/i915: Compute and commit color features in fastsets
In any commit, intel_modeset_pipe_config() will initialilly clear
and then recalculate most of the pipe states but it leave intel
specific color features states in reset state.

If after intel_pipe_config_compare() is detected that a fastset is
possible it will mark update_pipe as true and unsed mode_changed,
causing the color features state to be kept in reset state and then
latter being committed to hardware disabling the color features.

This issue can be reproduced by any code patch that duplicates the
actual(with color features already enabled) state and only mark
mode_changed as true.

171d156257 drm/i915: Simplify i830 DVO 2x clock handling
Let's just always enable the DVO 2x clock on i830. This way we don't
have to track if DVO is being used or not. The spec does suggest we
should disable the clock when it isn't needed, but this does appear
to work just fine.

This removes another crtc->config usage.

7ca60367dd drm/i915: Do not temporarily disable the DPLL on i830
The current code clears the DPLL register entirely when re-enabling
VGA mode temporarily during the DPLL enable sequence. On i830 we want to
keep the DPLLs on all the time, so let's not do this temporary
disabling.

The current code does work, so this doesn't seem super important.
But I prefer that we make the behaviour 100% consistent.

6454cb9feb drm/i915: Check infoframe state in intel_pipe_config_compare()
Check the infoframes and infoframe enable state when comparing two
crtc states.

We'll use the infoframe logging functions from video/hdmi.c to
show the infoframes as part of the state dump.

2a3902bd5c drm/i915/icl: Drop redundant gamma mode mask
gamma mode mask was not considering the 30th and 31st bits.
Due to this state readout was masking these bits, causing a
mismatch and false warning, even though the registers were
updated correctly. Dropped the gamma mode mask as it is
redundant and ideally entire register content should be
matching. This resolves the state mismatch warnings.

156b16f9b9 drm/i915: Restore interrupt enabling after a reset
At least on i965g and i965gm, performing a device reset clobbers the IER
resulting in loss of interrupts thereafter. So, run the irq_postinstall
hook to restore them.

v2: Ville pointed out that he already attempted to solve this problem by
reinstalling the interrupts in intel_reset_finish() (part of the display
handling around reset). However, reinstalling the irq clobbers the
i915->irq_mask which we need for handling MI_USER_INTERRUPTS, and does
so too late to handle any interrupts generated from resuming the rings.
The simple solution to both is to pull the interrupt reenabling from
afterwards to around the device reset.

0b2599a43c drm/i915: Add pipe enable/disable tracepoints
Add tracepoints for pipe enable/disable. We'll include the
frame/scanline counters for all pipes in these tracepoints to
help in diagnosing underruns and whatnot when enabling/disabling
pipes in parallel with plane updates/flips on another pipe.

62eb3c24b3 drm/i915: Apply rps waitboosting for dma_fence_wait_timeout()
As time goes by, usage of generic ioctls such as drm_syncobj and
sync_file are on the increase bypassing i915-specific ioctls like
GEM_WAIT. Currently, we only apply waitboosting to our driver ioctls as
we track the file/client and account the waitboosting to them. However,
since commit 7b92c1bd05 ("drm/i915: Avoid keeping waitboost active for
signaling threads"), we no longer have been applying the client
ratelimiting on waitboosts and so that information has only been used
for debug tracking.

Push the application of waitboosting down to the common
i915_request_wait, and apply it to all foreign fence waits as well.

73a116be68 drm/i915: Update DSPCNTR gamma/csc bits during crtc_enable()
On g4x+ we depend on the primary plane DSPCNTR gamma/csc enable
bits for the pipe bottom color. To guarantee that those are
correct already when enabling the crtc let's do an explicit
->disable_plane() call before enabling the pipe.

On skl+ this will be handled by the explicit PIPE_BOTTOM_COLOR
register which is already part of the normal color commit we
do durign crtc enable.

8271b2ef71 drm/i915: Track pipe csc enable in crtc state
Just like we did for pipe gamma, let's also track the pipe csc
state. The hardware only exists on ILK+, and currently we always
enable it on hsw+ and never on any other platforms. Just like
with pipe gamma, the primary plane control register is used
for the readout on pre-SKL, and the pipe bottom color register
on SKL+.

5f29ab2304 drm/i915: Track pipe gamma enable/disable in crtc state
Track whether pipe gamma is enabled or disabled. For now we
stick to the current behaviour of always enabling gamma. But
we do get working state readout for this now. On SKL+ we use
the pipe bottom color as our hardware state. On pre-SKL we
read the state back from the primary plane control register.
That only really correct for g4x+, as older platforms never
gamma correct pipe bottom color. But doing the readout the
same way on all platforms is fine, and there is no other way
to do it really.

9d5441de28 drm/i915: Populate gamma_mode for all platforms
On pre-HSW gamma mode is configured via PIPECONF. The bits are
the same except shifted up, so we can reuse just store them in
crtc_state->gamma_mode in the HSW+ way, allowing us to share
some code later.

d0e93599d3 drm/i915: prepare for drmP.h removal from drm_modeset_helper.h
The use of drmP.h is discouraged and removal of it from
drm_modeset_helper.h caused i915 to fail to build.

This patch introduce the necessary fixes to prepare for the
drmP.h removal from drm_modeset_helper.h.

In the files touched the lists of include files was grouped
and sorted.

Build tested on x86 and arm allmodconfig / allyesconfig.

051a6d8d3c drm/i915: Move LUT programming to happen after vblank waits
The LUTs are single buffered so we should program them after
the double buffered pipe updates have been latched by the
hardware.

We'll also fix up the IPS vs. split gamma w/a to do the IPS
disable like everyone else. Note that this is currently dead
code as we don't use the split gamma mode on HSW, but that
will be fixed up shortly.

4d8ed54c04 drm/i915: Split color mgmt based on single vs. double buffered registers
Split the color management hooks along the single vs. double
buffered registers line. Of the currently programmed registers
GAMMA_MODE and the ilk+ pipe CSC are double buffered, the
LUTS and CHV CGM block are single buffered.

The double buffered register will be programmed during the
normal pipe update with evasion, and also during pipe enable
so that the settings will already be correct when the pipe
starts up before the planes are enabled.

The single buffered registers are currently programmed before
the vblank evade. Which is totally wrong, but we'll correct
that later.

7eb31a0bb2 drm/i915: Split the gamma/csc enable bits from the plane_ctl() function
On g4x+ the pipe gamma enable bit for the primary plane affects
the pipe bottom color as well. The same for the pipe csc enable
bit on ilk+. Thus we must configure those bits correctly even
when the primary plane is disabled.

To make the feasible let's split those settings from the
plane_ctl() function into a seprate funciton that we can
call from the ->disable_plane() hook as well.

For consistency we'll do that on all the plane types. While
that has no real benefits at this time, it'll become useful
when we start to control the pipe gamma/csc enable bits
dynamically when we overhaul the color management code.

On pre-g4x there doesn't appear to be any way to gamma
correct the pipe bottom color, but sticking to the same
pattern doesn't hurt. And it'll still help us to do
crtc state readout correctly for the pipe gamma enable
bit for the color management overhaul.

An alternative apporach would be to still precompute these
bits into plane_state->ctl, but that would require that we
run through the plane check even when the plane isn't logically
enabled on any crtc. Currently that condition causes us to
short circuit the entire thing and not call ->check_plane().
There would also be some chicken and egg problems with
->check_plane() vs. crtc color state check that would
requite splitting certain things into multiple steps.
So all in all this seems like the easier route.

440e84a52a drm/i915: Don't set update_wm_post on g4x+
update_wm_post is meant for pre-g4x only. Don't ever set
it on g4x+.

The only effect of a bogus update_wm_post on g4x+ could
be that we clear the legacy_cursor_update flag in
intel_atomic_commit(). Since legacy_cursor_update is
only set for legacy cursor updates (as the name suggests)
and we only set update_wm_post for a modeset the two
cases should never occur at the same time. But let's
be consistent in setting update_wm_post so we don't
end up confusing so many people.

bf002c1007 drm/i915: W/A for underruns with WM1+ disabled on icl
Disabling WM1+ on ICL causes tons of underruns with
linear/X-tiled framebuffers. We can avoid this by flipping
on a chicken bit affecting the way the hw fill the FIFO.
This may not be the final solution but should hopefully
avoid some underruns in the meantime.

f81b845f72 drm/i915: Push clear_intel_crtc_state() onto the heap
clear_intel_crtc_state() uses the stack for saving a temporary copy of
certain bits of the inherited crtc_state before clearing the unwanted
bits. This pushes it over the stack limit for my little 32b Pineview,
so move the temporary allocation to the heap instead. As we now use a
zeroed struct, we can copy the whole extended state back to both
preserve what bits need to be preserved and zero the rest.

7360c9f6b8 drm/i915: Enable fastboot by default on VLV and CHV
We really want to have fastboot enabled by default to avoid an ugly
modeset during boot.

Currently we are enabling fastboot by default on gen9+ (Skylake and newer).
The intention is to enable it on older generations after it has seen more
testing on gen9+.

VLV and CHV devices are still being sold in stores today, as such it is
desirable to also enable fastboot by default on these now.

I've extensively tested fastboot=1 support on over 50 different
Bay- and Cherry-Trail devices. Testing DSI and eDP panels as well as
HDMI output (and even DP over Type-C on one device).

All 50 devices work fine with fastboot=1. On 2 devices their DSI panel
turns black as soon as the i915 driver loads when fastboot=0, so having
fastboot enabled is required for these 2 to work properly (for lack of
a better fix).

584fca111d drm/i915/icl: use tc_port in MG_PLL macros
Fix the TODO leftover in the code by changing the argument in MG_PLL
macros. The MG_PLL ids used to access the register values can be
converted from tc_port rather than port.

All these registers can use the TC port to calculate the right offsets
because they are only available for TC ports. The range (PORT_C onwards)
may not be stable and change from platform to platform. So by using the
TC id directly we avoid having to check for the platform in the "leaf
functions" and thus passing dev_priv around.

The helper functions were also renamed to use "tc" as prefix to make
them more generic.

7bed8adcd9 drm/i915: Try to sanitize bogus DPLL state left over by broken SNB BIOSen
Certain SNB machines (eg. ASUS K53SV) seem to have a broken BIOS
which misprograms the hardware badly when encountering a suitably
high resolution display. The programmed pipe timings are somewhat
bonkers and the DPLL is totally misprogrammed (P divider == 0).
That will result in atomic commit timeouts as apparently the pipe
is sufficiently stuck to not signal vblank interrupts.

IIRC something like this was also observed on some other SNB
machine years ago (might have been a Dell XPS 8300) but a BIOS
update cured it. Sadly looks like this was never fixed for the
ASUS K53SV as the latest BIOS (K53SV.320 11/11/2011) is still
broken.

The quickest way to deal with this seems to be to shut down
the pipe+ports+DPLL. Unfortunately doing this during the
normal sanitization phase isn't quite soon enough as we
already spew several WARNs about the bogus hardware state.
But it's better than hanging the boot for a few dozen seconds.
Since this is limited to a few old machines it doesn't seem
entirely worthwile to try and rework the readout+sanitization
code to handle it more gracefully.

framebuffer for NV12 requires the pitch to the multiplier of 4, instead
of the width. This patch corrects it.

For instance, a 480p video, whose width and pitch are 854 and 896
respectively, is excluded for NV12 plane so far.

32db0b6501 drm/i915: Don't try to use the hardware frame counter with i965gm TV output
On i965gm the hardware frame counter does not work when
the TV encoder is active. So let's not try to consult
the hardware frame counter in that case. Instead we'll
fall back to the timestamp based guesstimation method
used on gen2.

Note that the pipe timings generated by the TV encoder
are also rather peculiar. Apparently the pipe wants to
run at a much higher speed (related to the oversample
clock somehow it seems) but during the vertical active
period the TV encoder stalls the pipe every few lines
to keep its speed in check. But once the vertical
blanking period is reached the pipe gets to run at full
speed. This means our vblank timestamp estimates are
suspect. Fixing all that would require quite a bit
more work. This simple fix at least avoids the nasty
vblank timeouts that are happening currently.

Curiously the frame counter works just fine on i945gm
and gm45. I don't really understand what kind of mishap
occurred with the hardware design on i965gm. Sadly
I wasn't able to find any chicken bits etc. that would
fix the frame counter :(

fcd70cd36b drm: Split out drm_probe_helper.h
Having the probe helper stuff (which pretty much everyone needs) in
the drm_crtc_helper.h file (which atomic drivers should never need) is
confusing. Split them out.

To make sure I actually achieved the goal here I went through all
drivers. And indeed, all atomic drivers are now free of
drm_crtc_helper.h includes.

v2: Make it compile. There was so much compile fail on arm drivers
that I figured I'll better not include any of the acks on v1.

v3: Massive rebase because i915 has lost a lot of drmP.h includes, but
not all: Through drm_crtc_helper.h > drm_modeset_helper.h -> drmP.h
there was still one, which this patch largely removes. Which means
rolling out lots more includes all over.

This will also conflict with ongoing drmP.h cleanup by others I
expect.

d19f958db2 drm/i915: Enable fastset for non-boot modesets.
Now that our state comparison functions are pretty complete, we should
enable fastset by default when a modeset can be avoided. Even if we're
not completely certain about the inherited state, we can be certain
after the first modeset that our sw state matches the hw state.

There is one testcase explicitly testing fastset,
kms_panel_fitting.atomic-fastset but other testcases do so indirectly
because most tests don't clean up the display during exit, or otherwise
indirectly preserve mode by doing igt_display_reset or inheriting during
init.

Something that I completely missed when implementing the new MST VCPI
atomic helpers is that with those helpers, there's technically a chance
of us having to grab additional modeset locks in ->compute_config() and
furthermore, that means we have the potential to hit a normal modeset
deadlock. However, because ->compute_config() only returns a bool this
means we can't return -EDEADLK when we need to drop locks and try again
which means we end up just failing the atomic check permanently. Whoops.

So, fix this by modifying ->compute_config() to pass down an actual
error code instead of a bool so that the atomic check can be restarted
on modeset deadlocks.

Thanks to Ville Syrjälä for pointing this out!

3f2e9ed0b2 drm/i915/icl: Detect port F presence via VBT
Registering an output for a non-existent port (on a given SKU) can lead
to problems when trying to use the port, for instance timeouts during
power well enabling. Since there are no strap bits for port detection we
have to rely on VBT for this, so do that here.

There are no known SKUs where any of the A-E ports are non-existent, so
to reduce the likelihood of breakage due to incorrect VBT information,
do this detection only for port F (which is known to be missing on some
ICL SKUs).

makes the pairing explicit, and given the required wakeref cookie the
compiler can verify that we pass an initialised value to the rpm_put
(quite handy for double checking error paths).

track the VCPI allocations throughout a state's atomic check is
error prone, because it means that extra care has to be taken with the
order that drm_dp_atomic_find_vcpi_slots() and
drm_dp_atomic_release_vcpi_slots() are called in in order to ensure
idempotency. Currently the only driver actually using these helpers,
i915, doesn't even do this correctly: multiple ->best_encoder() checks
with i915's current implementation would not be idempotent and would
over-allocate VCPI slots, something I learned trying to implement
fallback retraining in MST.

So: simplify this whole mess, and teach drm_dp_atomic_find_vcpi_slots()
and drm_dp_atomic_release_vcpi_slots() to track the VCPI allocations for
each port. This allows us to ensure idempotency without having to rely
on the driver as much. Additionally: the driver doesn't need to do any
kind of VCPI slot tracking anymore if it doesn't need it for it's own
internal state.

Additionally; this adds a new drm_dp_mst_atomic_check() helper which
must be used by atomic drivers to perform validity checks for the new
VCPI allocations incurred by a state.

Also: update the documentation and make it more obvious that these
/must/ be called by /all/ atomic drivers supporting MST.

   for each port into account because so long as we have a kref to the
   port in the new or previous atomic state, the connector will stay
   registered.
 - Use the small changes to drm_dp_put_port() to add even more error
   checking to make misusage of the helpers more obvious. I added this
   after having to chase down various use-after-free conditions that
   started popping up from the new helpers so no one else has to
   troubleshoot that.
 - Move some accidental DRM_DEBUG_KMS() calls to DRM_DEBUG_ATOMIC()
 - Update documentation again, note that find/release() should both not be
   called on the same port in a single atomic check phase (but multiple
   calls to one or the other is OK)

 - Don't skip the atomic checks for VCPI allocations if no new VCPI
   allocations happen in a state. This makes the next change I'm about
   to list here a lot easier to implement.
 - Don't ignore VCPI allocations on destroyed ports, instead ensure that
   when ports are destroyed and still have VCPI allocations in the
   topology state, the only state changes allowed are releasing said
   ports' VCPI. This prevents a state with a mix of VCPI allocations
   from destroyed ports, and allocations from valid ports.

 - Don't release VCPI allocations in the topology state immediately in
   drm_dp_atomic_release_vcpi_slots(), instead mark them as 0 and skip
   over them in drm_dp_mst_duplicate_state(). This makes it so

   throwing warnings if the driver messes up it's book keeping and tries
   to release VCPI slots on a port that doesn't have any pre-existing
   VCPI allocation - danvet
 - Change mst_state/state in some debugging messages to "mst state"

 - Annotate atomic VCPI and atomic check functions with __must_check

55277e1f31 drm/i915: Always try to reset the GPU on takeover
When we first introduced the reset to sanitize the GPU on taking over
from the BIOS and before returning control to third parties (the BIOS!),
we restricted it to only systems utilizing HW contexts as we were
uncertain of how stable our reset mechanism truly was. We now have
reasonable coverage across all machines that expose a GPU reset method,
and so we should be safe to sanitize the GPU state everywhere.

v2: We _have_ to skip the reset if it would clobber the display.

608ed4ab24 drm/i915: Add an update_pipe callback to intel_encoder and call this on fastsets (v2)
When we are doing a fastset (needs_modeset=false, update_pipe=true) we
may need to update some encoder-level things such as checking that PSR
is enabled.

This commit adds an update_pipe callback to intel_encoder and a new
intel_encoders_update_pipe helper which calls this for all encoders
connected to a crtc. The new intel_encoders_update_pipe helper is called
from intel_update_crtc when doing a fastset.

2c5c415c1d drm/i915: Update crtc scaler settings when update_pipe is set
When the pipe_config's update_pipe flag is set we may need to update the
panel fitting settings. On GEN9+ this means we need to update the crtc's
scaler settings.

This fixes the following WARN_ON, during i915 loading on an Asrock
B150M Pro4S/D3 board with an i5-6500 CPU / graphics:

With line 12084 being the I915_STATE_WARN call inside the
"if (!intel_pipe_config_compare())" block in verify_crtc_state().

On this board with 2 1920x1080 monitors connected over HDMI the GOP
initializes both monitors at 1920x1080 and despite no scaling being
necessary configures a scaler for one of them.

When booting with fastboot=1 on the initial modeset needs_modeset will
be false while update_pipe is true. Since we were not calling
skl_update_scaler_crtc() in this case we would leave the scaler enabled
causing this error.

state") clobbers the previously read TRANS_DDI_FUNC_CTL_EDP register
contents with TRANS_DDI_FUNC_CTL_DSI0 contents. Fix the state readout,
and handle DSI 1 while at it.

Use a bitmask for iterating and logging transcoders, because the allowed
combinations are a bit funky.

2ca711caec drm/i915/icl: Consider DSI for getting transcoder state
For Gen11 DSI, we use similar registers like for eDP
to find if DSI encoder is connected or not to a pipe.
This patch refactors existing hsw_get_transcoder_state()
to handle this.

3b8c0d5bc9 drm/i915/icl: push pll to port mapping/unmapping to ddi encoder hooks
Unclutter the haswell_crtc_enable() and haswell_crtc_disable() functions
a bit by moving the pll to port mapping and unmapping functions to the
ddi encoder hooks. This allows removal of a bunch of boilerplate code
from the functions.

Additionally, the ICL DSI encoder needs to do the clock gating and
ungating slightly differently, and this allows its own handling in a
clean fashion.

DSC params like the enable, compressed bpp, slice count and
dsc_split are added to the intel_crtc_state. These parameters
are set based on the requested mode and available link parameters
during the pipe configuration in atomic check phase.

and RC parameters before enbaling DSC in atomic commit.

70bbe53c6e drm/i915: Make sure fb gtt offsets stay within 32bits
Let's try to make sure the fb offset computations never hit
an integer overflow by making sure the entire fb stays
below 32bits. framebuffer_check() in the core already does
the same check, but as it doesn't know about tiling some things
can slip through. Repeat the check in the driver with tiling
taken into account.

5f2e511205 drm/i915: Commit skl+ planes in an order that avoids ddb overlaps
skl+ can go belly up if there are overlapping ddb allocations between
planes. If we could absolutely guarantee that we can perform the atomic
update within a single frame we shouldn't have to worry about this. But
we can't rely on that so let's steal the ddb overlap check trick from
skl_update_crtcs() and apply it to the plane updates. Since each step
of the sequence is free from ddb overlaps we don't have to worry about
a vblank sneaking up on us in the middle of the sequence. The partial
state that gets latched by the hardware will be safe. And unlike
skl_update_crtcs() we don't have to intoduce any extra vblank waits
on account of only having to worry about a single pipe.

ff43bc379e drm/i915: Move ddb/wm programming into plane update/disable hooks on skl+
On SKL+ the plane WM/BUF_CFG registers are a proper part of each
plane's register set. That means accessing them will cancel any
pending plane update, and we would need a PLANE_SURF register write
to arm the wm/ddb change as well.

To avoid all the problems with that let's just move the wm/ddb
programming into the plane update/disable hooks. Now all plane
registers get written in one (hopefully atomic) operation.

To make that feasible we'll move the plane ddb tracking into
the crtc state. Watermarks were already tracked there.
