Pull perf events changes for v3.4 from Ingo Molnar:
- New "hardware based branch profiling" feature both on the kernel and
the tooling side, on CPUs that support it. (modern x86 Intel CPUs
with the 'LBR' hardware feature currently.)
This new feature is basically a sophisticated 'magnifying glass' for
branch execution - something that is pretty difficult to extract from
regular, function histogram centric profiles.
The simplest mode is activated via 'perf record -b', and the result
looks like this in perf report:

This output shows from/to branch columns and shows the highest
percentage (from,to) jump combinations - i.e. the most likely taken
branches in the system. "branches" can also include function calls
and any other synchronous and asynchronous transitions of the
instruction pointer that are not 'next instruction' - such as system
calls, traps, interrupts, etc.
This feature comes with (hopefully intuitive) flat ascii and TUI
support in perf report.
- Various 'perf annotate' visual improvements for us assembly junkies.
It will now recognize function calls in the TUI and by hitting enter
you can follow the call (recursively) and back, amongst other
improvements.
- Multiple threads/processes recording support in perf record, perf
stat, perf top - which is activated via a comma-list of PIDs:

- Support for per UID views, via the --uid paramter to perf top, perf
report, etc. For example 'perf top --uid mingo' will only show the

factoring out of the (hopefully much clearer) include/linux/static_key.h
generic facility:

The static_key_false() branch will be generated into the code with as
little impact to the likely code path as possible. the
static_key_slow_*() APIs flip the branch via live kernel code patching.
This facility can now be used more widely within the kernel to
micro-optimize hot branches whose likelihood matches the static-key
usage and fast/slow cost patterns.
- SW function tracer improvements: perf support and filtering support.
- Various hardenings of the perf.data ABI, to make older perf.data's
smoother on newer tool versions, to make new features integrate more
smoothly, to support cross-endian recording/analyzing workflows
better, etc.
- Restructuring of the kprobes code, the splitting out of 'optprobes',
and a corner case bugfix.
- Allow the tracing of kernel console output (printk).
- Improvements/fixes to user-space RDPMC support, allowing user-space
self-profiling code to extract PMU counts without performing any
system calls, while playing nice with the kernel side.
- 'perf bench' improvements
- ... and lots of internal restructurings, cleanups and fixes that made
these features possible. And, as usual this list is incomplete as

The one fix didn't make the cut for 3.3, so we're putting it
into v3.4. Tony tells me "There are more patches needed to make
multiple smsc91x instances work, but we need to hear from people
with such boards first. Then those can be tagged for stable.",
so we don't mark this patch stable yet.

Commit d1589f0912 (ARM: OMAP2+: Mark
omap_hsmmc_init and omap_mux related functions as __init) changed DSI
muxing functions to __init. This doesn't work, as the muxing functions
are used every time a DSI display is enabled or disabled.
This patch removes the __inits from DSI mux functions that were
accidentally marked as __init, and makes omap4_hdmi_mux_pads __init
like it should be.

In previous patch (arm/tegra: add timeout to PCIe PLL lock detection loop)
tegra_pcie_enable_controller() function type has been changed from
void to int, but the last return statement wasn't converted, so
function returns undefined value. Fix it.
Also while at it, address couple of minor concerns raised by reviewers:
use usleep_range for delay, and lower the value of timeout to 300ms
to be consistent with Nvidia Vibrante kernel.

This patch adds a generic target for SPEAr600 board that can be
configured via the device-tree. Currently the following devices
are supported via the devicetree:
- VIC interrupts
- PL011 UART
- PL061 GPIO
- Synopsys DW I2C
- Synopsys DW ethernet
Other peripheral devices (e.g. SMI flash, FSMC NAND flash etc) will
follow in later patches.
Only the spear600-evb is currently supported. Other SPEAr600
based boards will follow later.
Since the current mainline SPEAr600 code only supports the SPEAr600
evaluation board, with nearly zero peripheral devices (only UART
and GPIO), it makes sense to switch over to DT based configuration
completely now. So this patch also removes all non-DT stuff, mainly
platform device data. The files spear600.c and spear600_evb.c are
removed completely.

This adds all devices that are normally present through the
u8500_init_machine function in the device tree as well, which
will duplicate the devices that are visible.
This will not do much by itself because the device from the
device tree are not matched by any device driver until they
are converted as well. The next step is to move over one
device at a time to actually be used from the device tree
instead of the hardcoded device using auxdata to pass the
correct platform_data.

This provides very basic Device Tree support for ST-Ericsson's
low-cost development platform, Snowball. If Device Tree for
ux500 is enabled and the correct board is configured within the
Device Tree blob, the correct *_init_machine() will be called.

Define both uarts in kirkwood.dtsi as they are common to all kirkwood
SoCs. Each board may enable all or none of them, so they are disabled
by default. uart0 is enabled for the dreamplug.
tclk can vary for each board, so we leave it undefined in the kirkwood
dtsi. Each board can then set it as appropriate when enabling the uart.

Move all dreamplug-specific code out of board-dt.c and into
board-dreamplug.c. This way new boards that are added during the
conversion to fdt don't clutter up board-dt.c.

We need to absorb kirkwood_init() into kirkwood_dt_init() so that as we
convert drivers, we can remove the platform call, eg
kirkwood_rtc_init(). This maintains compatibility with non-fdt
configurations because they still call kirkwood_init() in common.c.
As drivers are converted, we will reinstate the 'static' qualifier in
common.c.

The GPIOs of EXYNOS4 and EXYNOS5 are changed to use
ioremap instead of static mapping. It alse causes the
change of external interrupt IO mapping. This patch
changes EXYNOS4 to EXYNOS for common use and changes
EINT_x macros for supporting dynamic IO mapping.

In all of Samsung platform, the setup-i2c0.c file for I2C channel 0
is always compiled. So when supporting new SoC,it should be updated
for it. Since EXYNOS5 GPIO will be supported after this, there is no
setup gpio in there now. It will be implemented with that, of course.

According to commit cc511b8d84 ("ARM: 7257/1: EXYNOS: introduce
arch/arm/mach-exynos/common.[ch]"), we don't need to declare extern
for exynos4_map_io(), exynos4_init_clocks(), exynos4_init_uarts(),
and exynos_init(). And the exynos4210_register_clocks() and
exynos4212_register_clocks depend on each SoC not ARCH_EXYNOS4.
So this patch fixed above.

The framebuffer driver needs the clock named 'lcd' as its bus
clock but the equivalent clock on Exynos4 is named as 'fimd'.
Hence, create a clkdev lookup entry with the name 'lcd' that
references the 'fimd' clock.

Drive the two Bluetooth UART output GPIOs (GPIO43_BTUART_TXD, GPIO45_BTUART_RTS)
LOW during sleep mode instead of HIGH. This reduces sleep mode battery discharge
from approximately 46 mA to approximately 30 mA.

GPIO105 (nIR_ON) is requested twice: first in gpio_request_array(), then in
pxa_irda_probe(). Consequently the second request fails with EBUSY:
pxa2xx-ir: probe of pxa2xx-ir failed with error -16

Several platforms create IOMEM defines for casting to 'void __iomem *',
and other platforms are incorrectly using __io() macro for the same
purpose. This creates a common definition and removes all the platform
specific versions. Rather than try to make linux/io.h and asm/io.h
assembly safe, the assembly version of IOMEM is moved into
asm/assembler.h.

The ep93xx backlight driver uses a single register within the
framebuffer's register space. Currently the backlight driver uses a
static IO mapping for the register since the memory cannot be
requested by both drivers.
Convert the static mapping to use ioremap so that we can remove the
dependency on mach/hardware.h. To do so, we need remove the
request_mem_region from both the backlight and framebuffer drivers,
since whichever driver is loaded second will fail with -EBUSY
otherwise.
A proper fix is still required, and a FIXME comment has been added to
both drivers.

Both the Snapper CL15 and EDB93xx audio drivers set the same audio
configuration in ep93xx_i2s_acquire. Remove the arguments to
ep93xx_i2s_acquire so that the audio drivers no longer need the
EP93XX_SYSCON defines exported.

"Here's one more kernel panic fix that I dropped from last weeks
fixes as it was still being discussed.
This is a fix for the regression caused by fixing an earlier
regression for smsc911x fixed regulators :(
Turns out that we have more than one smsc911x on some boards,
and the earlier fix causes a kernel panic for board trying to
register second smsc911x instance, even if the second smsc911x
is on an add-on board that is not connected.
Note that the boards with second smsc911x will also need to be
patched later on to provide their own regulators."

This patch adds OHCI support to the LPC32xx ARM platform. Besides the trivial
addition of platform "usb-ohci" support, fixes for the USB PLL have been added
to arch/arm/mach-lpc32xx/clock.c, ported from NXP's lpclinux.com.
(This is the mach-lpc32xx specific part, the USB subsystem specific changes are
in a separate patch for the USB maintainers.)

Add support for the new smp_twd runtime registration interface
to the imx6q platforms, and remove the old compile-time support.
The imx6q DTS file is updated to match the TWD DT documentation.
Also present in this patch a DTS fix to the timer interrupt routing
(the PPI connection uses bits [15:8]) and trigger (rising edge).

Platforms can populate a struct twd_local_timer with MMIO
and IRQ resources, and then call twd_local_timer_register()
to have the timer registered with the core.

In order to switch to a runtime selectable local timer,
add a registration interface that timer drivers can use to
register to the core.
local_timer_setup() and local_timer_stop() are made weak symbols
in order not to break existing setups.

When CONFIG_HAVE_ARM_TWD is selected, local_timer_stop is a #define,
while all other local timers are using a real function.
Convert it to an alias of twd_timer_stop, as it helps converting
all local timers to another internal API in a sane way.

For some reason (sadly i don't identifying the patch right now)
two LCD data lines configured PAD_CTL_SRE_SLOW (wrong slew rate)
since Kernel 3.1. MX25_PAD_GPIO_E__LD16 and MX25_PAD_GPIO_F__LD17
This results in an fauly behaviour and strange color effects.
To ensure that all LCD data pins configured with the proper slew rate,
this patch changes to IOMUX define of all LCD __LDxx pins to PAD_CTL_SRE_FAST.
This problem may affect other mx25 platforms like mx25pdk. Sadly i can't test
it. Of course this problem shouldn't occur when you done your LCD muxing
correctly in the bootloader.

while we tear down the cpu. This is required because we only update the
sched_domain tree after we brought the cpu-down. And this is needed so
that some tasks can still run while we bring it down, we just don't want
new tasks to appear.
On cpu-up however the sched_domain tree doesn't yet include the new cpu,
so its invisible to the load-balancer, regardless of the active state.
So instead of setting the active state after we boot the new cpu (and
consequently having to wait for it before enabling interrupts) set the
cpu active before we set it online and avoid the whole mess.

On OMAP2/3 McBSP1 port has 6 pin setup, while on OMAP4 the port is McBSP4.
Implement the CLKR/FSR clock mux selection for OMAP4, and make sure that
we add the correct callback for the correct port across supported OMAP
versions.

The OMAP McBSP driver stack used to contain two different
drivers. One of them was used as kind low-level access to
the IP, while the other driver was the ASoC DAI driver.
There were global, shared structures, in different places,
the McBSP instances are reffered with id numbers (sometimes
0 based, in other cases 1 based id numbers).
Create one single driver for OMAP McBSP with name: omap-mcbsp.
Convert the old omap-mcbsp driver initially to be a library
for the omap-mcbsp DAI driver. With this change we can get rid
of all global variables, structures.
Further cleanup is coming...

This is useful when we have broken type2 compliant IPs' where
the softreset shift is not the same as SYSC_TYPE2_SOFTRESET_SHIFT
and hence is overridden using sysc_fields->srst_shift.
We have at least one such instance now with onchip keypad on OMAP5
which has a different softreset shift as compared to other type2
IPs'.

With commit 4fe7ef3a08 (ARM: provide runtime hook for ioremap/iounmap),
compiles with !CONFIG_MMU were broken. Rename nommu __iounmap to
__arm_iounmap and add arch_ioremap_caller and arch_iounmap. Its
not expected that these need to be overriden for !CONFIG_MMU, so setting
the function ptrs has no effect in this case.

Thomas Arbrahams's patchset have changed the device name in sdhci-s3c.c
(mmc: sdhci-s3c: Rework platform data and add device tree support)
But didn't change the regulator_consumer name.
So maybe didn't initialize the mmc/sd card for exynos4.

In mmc, there are capabilities and use the host_caps.
That capability is expressed with bit[0:31].
But now..already filled the bit[0:31]...
so we need to denote with the other capability field.
(if we want to use the cache, powerclass, etc for eMMC..
this field is necessary)

Add functions to register various video devices like venc, osd,
vpbe and the v4l2 display driver for dm644x.
Change dm644x_init_video() to make room for display related
configuration. Register the vpfe or vpbe devices only if valid
display configuration is provided to make sure boards without

Amba core assumes the pclk to be named as apb_pclk. During device probe,
it tries to get that clock and enable that. When PM_RUNTIME is enabled,
dma clock is not explicitly enabled in pl330_probe, which causes device
probe to fail. Adding a clkdev entry for apb_pclk for mdma1 fixes the
problem.
This patch fixes following runtime error.

The resources size is increased to 16KB to also include the non-image packet
data buffers (CSIS_PKTDATAn). The 4KiB region is only sufficient when the
driver is not using the packet data buffers.

Following the merge of CPU PM notifiers and L2 resume code, this patch
removes useless code to save and restore L2 registers.
This is now automatically covered by suspend calls which integrated
CPU PM notifiers and new sleep code that allows to resume L2 before MMU
is turned on.

This patch adds support AFTR(ARM OFF TOP RUNNING) mode in
cpuidle driver. L2 cache keeps their data in this mode.
This patch ports the code to the latest interfaces to
save/restore CPU state inclusive of CPU PM notifiers, l2

Currently there were two part of DMAC PL330 driver for
support old styled s3c-pl330 which has been merged into
drivers/dma/pl330.c driver. Actually, there is no reason
to separate them now.
Basically this patch merges arch/arm/common/pl330.c into
drivers/dma/pl330.c driver and removes useless exported
symbol, externed function and so on.
The newer pl330 driver tested on SMDKV310 and SMDK4212 boards

Tegra PCIe driver waits for PLL to lock using busy loop.
If PLL fails to lock for some reason, this leads to silent lockup
while booting (as PCIe code is not modular).
Fix by adding timeout, so if PLL doesn't lock in a couple
of seconds, just PCIe driver fails and machine continues to boot.

The dma controller is similar in S3C2443 and S3C2416 and has also
the same register layout with the same REQSEL-bits in the source
select.
The only small difference is the SIO channel of the S3C2443 for the
non-hsmmc controller which is not present on S3C2416/2450 and

The Simtec extension didn't follow a specific naming scheme for files
and config options until now. This distributed the files throughout
the whole mach-s3c24xx directory.
This patch fixes the naming of files and option names and also creates
a simtec.h header instead of using many one-liners.
As the plat/audio-simtec.h only contains the platform-data struct now,
it can also move to include/sound in a later patch.

When a CPU is taken out of reset, either cold booted or hotplugged in,
some of its PMU registers can contain UNKNOWN values.
This patch adds a hotplug notifier to ARM core perf code so that upon
CPU restart the PMU unit is reset and becomes ready to use again.

xscale2 PMUs indicate overflow not via the PMU control register, but by
a separate overflow FLAG register instead.
This patch fixes the xscale2 PMU code to use this register to detect
to overflow and ensures that we clear any pending overflow when
disabling a counter.

The PMU IRQ handlers in perf assume that if a counter has overflowed
then perf must be responsible. In the paranoid world of crazy hardware,
this could be false, so check that we do have a valid event before
attempting to dereference NULL in the interrupt path.

When disabling a counter on an ARMv7 PMU, we should also clear the
overflow flag in case an overflow occurred whilst stopping the counter.
This prevents a spurious overflow being picked up later and leading to
either false accounting or a NULL dereference.

On ARM, the PMU does not stop counting after an overflow and therefore
IRQ latency affects the new counter value read by the kernel. This is
significant for non-sampling runs where it is possible for the new value
to overtake the previous one, causing the delta to be out by up to
max_period events.
Commit a737823d ("ARM: 6835/1: perf: ensure overflows aren't missed due
to IRQ latency") attempted to fix this problem by allowing interrupt
handlers to pass an overflow flag to the event update function, causing
the overflow calculation to assume that the counter passed through zero
when going from prev to new. Unfortunately, this doesn't work when
overflow occurs on the perf_task_tick path because we have the flag
cleared and end up computing a large negative delta.
This patch removes the overflow flag from armpmu_event_update and
instead limits the sample_period to half of the max_period for
non-sampling profiling runs.

Add a kconfig option NEED_MACH_IO_H to conditionally include mach/io.h.
Basing this on CONFIG_PCI and CONFIG_ISA doesn't quite work. Most ISA
platforms don't need mach/io.h, but ebsa110 does. Most PCI platforms need
mach/io.h for now, but ks8695 doesn't which means i/o accesses are broken.

We have compile time over-ride of ioremap and iounmap, but an run-time
override is needed for multi-platform builds. This adds an extra function
pointer check, but ioremap is not peformance critical. The option for
compile time selection remains.
The caller variant is used here to provide correct caller information as
ARM can only support level 0 for __builtin_return_address.

commit e4b0b2cbbb (ARM: OMAP2+: gpmc-smsc911x: add required smsc911x
regulators) added regulators which are registered during
gpmc_smsc911x_init(). However, some platforms (OMAP3/Overo) have more
than one instance of the SMSC911x and result in attempting to register
the same regulator more than once which causes a panic().
Fix this by only registering the regulator when the platform_data id
field is zero, indicating its the first instance.

(OMAP3: PM: Adding voltage driver support.)
introduced runtime computation of waittime to handle all potential
sys clocks available.
In the voltage processor, the SPMSUpdateWait is calculated based on
the slew rate and the voltage step (SMPSUpdateWait = slew rate *
Voltage Step). After the voltage processor receives the SMPS_Ack
signal, the Voltage Controller will wait for SMPSUpdateWait clock
cycles for the voltage to settle to the new value. For all
practical purposes, the waittime parameter is the OMAP hardware
translation of what the slew rate on the PMIC is.
As an example, with TPS62361 on OMAP4460,
step_size = 10000
slew_rate = 32000
sys_clk_rate = 38400
Our current computation results in the following:
= ((step_size / slew_rate) * sys_clk_rate) / 1000
= ((10000 / 32000) * 38400 / 1000
= 0
Fix the same using DIV_ROUND_UP as an extra wait clock cycle
is better than lesser clock cycle. For the above example, this
translates to:
= (10000 * 38400) / (1000 * 32000)
= 12

When CONFIG_HOTPLUG_CPU=n, there are unused functions in wakeupgen:
