Pablo Neira Ayuso discovered that avahi and
potentially NetworkManager accept spoofed Netlink messages because of a
kernel bug. The kernel passes all-zero SCM_CREDENTIALS ancillary data
to the receiver if the sender did not provide such data, instead of not
including any such data at all or including the correct data from the
peer (as it is the case with AF_UNIX).
This bug was introduced in commit 16e5726269
(af_unix: dont send SCM_CREDENTIALS by default)
This patch forces passing credentials for netlink, as
before the regression.
Another fix would be to not add SCM_CREDENTIALS in
netlink messages if not provided by the sender, but it
might break some programs.

If a packet is emitted on one socket in one group of fanout sockets,
it is transmitted again. It is thus read again on one of the sockets
of the fanout group. This result in a loop for software which
generate packets when receiving one.
This retransmission is not the intended behavior: a fanout group
must behave like a single socket. The packet should not be
transmitted on a socket if it originates from a socket belonging
to the same fanout group.
This patch fixes the issue by changing the transmission check to
take fanout group info account.

Macro for_each_child_of_node() makes it easy to iterate over all of the
children for a given device tree node, including those nodes that are
marked as unavailable (i.e. status = "disabled").
Introduce for_each_available_child_of_node(), which is like
for_each_child_of_node(), but it automatically skips unavailable nodes.
This also requires the introduction of helper function
of_get_next_available_child(), which returns the next available child
node.

Unexpected behavior could occur if the time is set to a value large
enough to overflow a 64bit ktime_t (which is something larger then the
year 2262).
Also unexpected behavior could occur if large negative offsets are
injected via adjtimex.
So this patch improves the sanity check timekeeping inputs by
improving the timespec_valid() check, and then makes better use of
timespec_valid() to make sure we don't set the time to an invalid
negative value or one that overflows ktime_t.
Note: This does not protect from setting the time close to overflowing
ktime_t and then letting natural accumulation cause the overflow.

This is for those drivers which do not have dynamic device creation
(do not call tty_port_register_device) and do not want to implement
tty->ops->install (will not call tty_port_install). They still have to
provide the link somehow though.
And this newly added function is exactly to serve that purpose.

Switch to the new driver allocation interface, as this is one of the
special call-sites. Here, we need TTY_DRIVER_DYNAMIC_ALLOC to not
allocate tty_driver->ports, cdevs and potentially other structures
because we reserve too many lines in pty. Instead, it provides the
tty_port<->tty_struct link in tty->ops->install already.

ARM recently moved to asm-generic/mutex-xchg.h for its mutex
implementation after the previous implementation was found to be missing
some crucial memory barriers. However, this has revealed some problems
running hackbench on SMP platforms due to the way in which the
MUTEX_SPIN_ON_OWNER code operates.
The symptoms are that a bunch of hackbench tasks are left waiting on an
unlocked mutex and therefore never get woken up to claim it. This boils
down to the following sequence of events:
Task A Task B Task C Lock value
0 1
1 lock() 0
2 lock() 0
3 spin(A) 0
4 unlock() 1
5 lock() 0
6 cmpxchg(1,0) 0
7 contended() -1
8 lock() 0
9 spin(C) 0
10 unlock() 1
11 cmpxchg(1,0) 0
12 unlock() 1
At this point, the lock is unlocked, but Task B is in an uninterruptible
sleep with nobody to wake it up.
This patch fixes the problem by ensuring we put the lock into the
contended state if we fail to acquire it on the fastpath, ensuring that
any blocked waiters are woken up when the mutex is released.

One condition before codel_Newton_step() was not good if
we never left the dropping state for a flow. As a result
rec_inv_sqrt was 0, instead of the ~0 initial value.
codel control law was then set to a very aggressive mode, dropping
many packets before reaching 'target' and recovering from this problem.
To keep codel_vars_init() as efficient as possible, refine
the condition to make sure rec_inv_sqrt initial value is correct

We need to allow drivers that use neither tty_port_install nor
tty_port_register_device to link a tty_port to a tty somehow. To
avoid a race with open, this has to be performed before
tty_register_device. But currently tty_driver->ports is allocated even
in tty_register_device because we do not know whether this is the PTY
driver. The PTY driver is special here due to an excessive count of
lines it declares to handle. We cannot handle tty_ports there this
way.
To circumvent this, we start passing tty_driver flags to
alloc_tty_driver already and we create tty_alloc_driver for this
purpose. There we can allocate tty_driver->ports and do all the magic
between tty_alloc_driver and tty_register_device. Later we will
introduce tty_port_link_device function for that purpose.
All drivers should eventually switch to this new tty driver allocation
interface.

Within SIP messages IPv6 addresses are enclosed in square brackets in most
cases, with the exception of the "received=" header parameter. Currently
the helper fails to parse enclosed addresses.
This patch:
- changes the SIP address parsing function to enforce square brackets
when required, and accept them when not required but present, as
recommended by RFC 5118.
- adds a new SDP address parsing function that never accepts square
brackets since SDP doesn't use them.
With these changes, the SIP helper correctly parses all test messages
from RFC 5118 (Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Torture Test Messages
for Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6)).

The EETI touchscreen asserts its IRQ line as soon as it has data in its
internal buffers. The line is automatically deasserted once all data has
been read via I2C. Hence, the driver has to monitor the GPIO line and
cannot simply rely on the interrupt handler reception.
In the current implementation of the driver, irq_to_gpio() is used to
determine the GPIO number from the i2c_client's IRQ value.
As irq_to_gpio() is not available on all platforms, this patch changes
this and makes the driver ignore the passed in IRQ. Instead, a GPIO is
added to the platform_data struct and gpio_to_irq is used to derive the
IRQ from that GPIO. If this fails, bail out. The driver is only able to
work in environments where the touchscreen GPIO can be mapped to an
IRQ.
Without this patch, building raumfeld_defconfig results in:

The first idea of the CAN FD implementation started with a new struct
canfd_frame to be used for both CAN FD frames and legacy CAN frames.
The now mainlined implementation supports both CAN frame types simultaneously
and distinguishes them only by their required sizes: CAN_MTU and CANFD_MTU.
Only the struct canfd_frame contains a flags element which is needed for the
additional CAN FD information. As CAN FD implicitly means that the 'Extened
Data Length' mode is enabled the formerly defined CANFD_EDL bit became
redundant and also confusing as an unset bit would be an error and would
always need to be tested.
This patch removes the obsolete CANFD_EDL bit and clarifies the documentation
for the use of struct canfd_frame and the CAN FD relevant flags.

After we transfer set the EXT4_ERROR_FS bit in the file system
superblock, it's not enough to call jbd2_journal_clear_err() to clear
the error indication from journal superblock --- we need to call
jbd2_journal_update_sb_errno() as well. Otherwise, when the root file
system is mounted read-only, the journal is replayed, and the error
indicator is transferred to the superblock --- but the s_errno field
in the jbd2 superblock is left set (since although we cleared it in
memory, we never flushed it out to disk).
This can end up confusing e2fsck. We should make e2fsck more robust
in this case, but the kernel shouldn't be leaving things in this
confused state, either.

Finally we can kill the 'sync_supers' kernel thread along with the
'->write_super()' superblock operation because all the users are gone.
Now every file-system is supposed to self-manage own superblock and
its dirty state.
The nice thing about killing this thread is that it improves power management.
Indeed, 'sync_supers' is a source of monotonic system wake-ups - it woke up
every 5 seconds no matter what - even if there were no dirty superblocks and
even if there were no file-systems using this service (e.g., btrfs and
journalled ext4 do not need it). So it was wasting power most of the time. And
because the thread was in the core of the kernel, all systems had to have it.
So I am quite happy to make it go away.
Interestingly, this thread is a left-over from the pdflush kernel thread which
was a self-forking kernel thread responsible for all the write-back in old
Linux kernels. It was turned into per-block device BDI threads, and
'sync_supers' was a left-over. Thus, R.I.P, pdflush as well.

Currently the only way for wireless drivers to tell whether or not OFDM
is allowed on the current channel is to check the regulatory
information. However, this requires hodling cfg80211_mutex, which is not
visible to the drivers.
Other regulatory restrictions are provided as flags in the channel
definition, so let's do similarly with OFDM. This patch adds a new flag,
IEEE80211_CHAN_NO_OFDM, to tell drivers that OFDM on a channel is not
allowed. This flag is set on any channels for which regulatory indicates
that OFDM is prohibited.

When a disk has large discard_granularity and small max_discard_sectors,
discards are not split with optimal alignment. In the limit case of
discard_granularity == max_discard_sectors, no request could be aligned
correctly, so in fact you might end up with no discarded logical blocks
at all.
Another example that helps showing the condition in the patch is with
discard_granularity == 64, max_discard_sectors == 128. A request that is
submitted for 256 sectors 2..257 will be split in two: 2..129, 130..257.
However, only 2 aligned blocks out of 3 are included in the request;
128..191 may be left intact and not discarded. With this patch, the
first request will be truncated to ensure good alignment of what's left,
and the split will be 2..127, 128..255, 256..257. The patch will also
take into account the discard_alignment.
At most one extra request will be introduced, because the first request
will be reduced by at most granularity-1 sectors, and granularity
must be less than max_discard_sectors. Subsequent requests will run
on round_down(max_discard_sectors, granularity) sectors, as in the
current code.

A peer (or local user) may cause TCP to use a nominal MSS of as little
as 88 (actual MSS of 76 with timestamps). Given that we have a
sufficiently prodigious local sender and the peer ACKs quickly enough,
it is nevertheless possible to grow the window for such a connection
to the point that we will try to send just under 64K at once. This
results in a single skb that expands to 861 segments.
In some drivers with TSO support, such an skb will require hundreds of
DMA descriptors; a substantial fraction of a TX ring or even more than
a full ring. The TX queue selected for the skb may stall and trigger
the TX watchdog repeatedly (since the problem skb will be retried
after the TX reset). This particularly affects sfc, for which the
issue is designated as CVE-2012-3412.
Therefore:
1. Add the field net_device::gso_max_segs holding the device-specific
limit.
2. In netif_skb_features(), if the number of segments is too high then
mask out GSO features to force fall back to software GSO.

- a rework of the sa11x0 DMA engine driver merged during the previous

- addition of OMAP DMA engine driver (using these helper functions),

Nothing in the helper functions is ARM specific, so I hope that other
implementations can consolidate some of their code by making use of
these helpers.

Pull second vfs pile from Al Viro:
"The stuff in there: fsfreeze deadlock fixes by Jan (essentially, the
deadlock reproduced by xfstests 068), symlink and hardlink restriction
patches, plus assorted cleanups and fixes.
Note that another fsfreeze deadlock (emergency thaw one) is *not*
dealt with - the series by Fernando conflicts a lot with Jan's, breaks
userland ABI (FIFREEZE semantics gets changed) and trades the deadlock
for massive vfsmount leak; this is going to be handled next cycle.
There probably will be another pull request, but that stuff won't be
in it."

Pull block driver changes from Jens Axboe:
- Making the plugging support for drivers a bit more sane from Neil.
This supersedes the plugging change from Shaohua as well.
- The usual round of drbd updates.
- Using a tail add instead of a head add in the request completion for
ndb, making us find the most completed request more quickly.
- A few floppy changes, getting rid of a duplicated flag and also
running the floppy init async (since it takes forever in boot terms)
from Andi.
* 'for-3.6/drivers' of git://git.kernel.dk/linux-block:
floppy: remove duplicated flag FD_RAW_NEED_DISK
blk: pass from_schedule to non-request unplug functions.
block: stack unplug
blk: centralize non-request unplug handling.
md: remove plug_cnt feature of plugging.
block/nbd: micro-optimization in nbd request completion
drbd: announce FLUSH/FUA capability to upper layers
drbd: fix max_bio_size to be unsigned
drbd: flush drbd work queue before invalidate/invalidate remote
drbd: fix potential access after free
drbd: call local-io-error handler early
drbd: do not reset rs_pending_cnt too early
drbd: reset congestion information before reporting it in /proc/drbd
drbd: report congestion if we are waiting for some userland callback
drbd: differentiate between normal and forced detach
drbd: cleanup, remove two unused global flags
floppy: Run floppy initialization asynchronous
Pull core block IO bits from Jens Axboe:
"The most complicated part if this is the request allocation rework by
Tejun, which has been queued up for a long time and has been in
for-next ditto as well.
There are a few commits from yesterday and today, mostly trivial and
obvious fixes. So I'm pretty confident that it is sound. It's also
smaller than usual."
* 'for-3.6/core' of git://git.kernel.dk/linux-block:
block: remove dead func declaration
block: add partition resize function to blkpg ioctl
block: uninitialized ioc->nr_tasks triggers WARN_ON
block: do not artificially constrain max_sectors for stacking drivers
blkcg: implement per-blkg request allocation
block: prepare for multiple request_lists

Add a new operation code (BLKPG_RESIZE_PARTITION) to the BLKPG ioctl that
allows altering the size of an existing partition, even if it is currently
in use.
This patch converts hd_struct->nr_sects into sequence counter because
One might extend a partition while IO is happening to it and update of
nr_sects can be non-atomic on 32bit machines with 64bit sector_t. This
can lead to issues like reading inconsistent size of a partition. Sequence
counter have been used so that readers don't have to take bdev mutex lock
as we call sector_in_part() very frequently.
Now all the access to hd_struct->nr_sects should happen using sequence
counter read/update helper functions part_nr_sects_read/part_nr_sects_write.
There is one exception though, set_capacity()/get_capacity(). I think
theoritically race should exist there too but this patch does not
modify set_capacity()/get_capacity() due to sheer number of call sites
and I am afraid that change might break something. I have left that as a
TODO item. We can handle it later if need be. This patch does not introduce
any new races as such w.r.t set_capacity()/get_capacity().
