exit_thread: remove empty bodies
Define HAVE_EXIT_THREAD for archs which want to do something in exit_thread. For others, let's define exit_thread as an empty inline. This is a cleanup before we change the prototype of exit_thread to accept a task parameter. [akpm@linux-foundation.org: fix mips] Signed-off-by: Jiri Slaby <jslaby@suse.cz> Cc: "David S. asm-generic changes for 4.6
There are only three patches this time, most other changes to files in include/asm-generic tend to go through the tree of whoever depends on the change. Two patches are cleanups for stuff that is no longer needed, the main change is to adapt the generic version of BUG_ON() for CONFIG_BUG=n to make it behave consistently with BUG(). This avoids undefined behavior along with a number of warnings about that undefined behavior in randconfig builds when we keep going on after hitting a BUG_ON(). -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1 iQIVAwUAVvRXDGCrR//JCVInAQKUFRAAmp23pohv08LZzXL8Qu7XfFN+b1RkZ936 WYBeiA9PEWufQs2hgXaEUXy0onO7ah4cs2NWfkaBPyxT+I9mN+ThdzqVrlTE+AEO 2K0f2RaZANC238zB86Yv/YvTj7FegH0DDdMBq/P06vlYdgBegx49U3pMpguxl3d0 /q9MyqTzo9j4uOEK4ix4/Dko+4eKIS5Y/xeb0TkeKA6HiBVzAhGLZFl+eMku07Bf ap8B705hBDXSBFeWcK9AvKjHZCM+FCkb+C3TXo9x5tUu8g5OIG1t962OQvT9ldsP rvo5ppRh/TAY2Z9chN3cKrsvshbHiZ9uRzeksCunL+SK+dOhEIPCVzLXndQpi3RD NgeNKgo6gKYdle44pEj0EH2ktuvr0u8sbjQg9SY2miC1H4DmEbCakSqtQegHXTKd chJ6xyNiQXktdfo0pFOtCA2gjqiAriugttBqUtGcK9zRqjGGpP5hOUQVm3jR7UMp Hjb+oj5o+Gjz5J1t5zsjbhFINDCHAgXRzqqaoT9RfE9+QlUftUhu+N9KVFgzhe9I 93VHaqgGIRoi856BO7UZSaMGhy7ljm1nQ18jP9aZl/tBco0kpd3AO8og9dJ0u2j+ 3fEqAHH30ia8GJCfIDnolxTL6uaqcCIeAoLgGcmn+QZS7ka+tD+000rtgd2pdy9/ gy/VPpFG064= =8tPL -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'asm-generic-4.6' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arnd/asm-generic Pull asm-generic updates from Arnd Bergmann: "There are only three patches this time, most other changes to files in include/asm-generic tend to go through the tree of whoever depends on the change. The muxing can be done using a BPF program which hashes the incoming packet. From Craig Gallek. 5) Add a multiplexer for TCP streams, to provide a messaged based interface. BPF programs can be used to determine the message boundaries. From Tom Herbert. 6) Add 802.1AE MACSEC support, from Sabrina Dubroca. 7) Avoid factorial complexity when taking down an inetdev interface with lots of configured addresses. We were doing things like traversing the entire address less for each address removed, and flushing the entire netfilter conntrack table for every address as well. 8) Add and use SKB bulk free infrastructure, from Jesper Brouer. 9) Allow offloading u32 classifiers to hardware, and implement for ixgbe, from John Fastabend. 10) Allow configuring IRQ coalescing parameters on a per-queue basis, from Kan Liang. 11) Extend ethtool so that larger link mode masks can be supported. From David Decotigny. 12) Introduce devlink, which can be used to configure port link types (ethernet vs Infiniband, etc.), port splitting, and switch device level attributes as a whole. From Jiri Pirko. 13) Hardware offload support for flower classifiers, from Amir Vadai. 14) Add "Local Checksum Offload". ipv6: Pass proto to csum_ipv6_magic as __u8 instead of unsigned short
This patch updates csum_ipv6_magic so that it correctly recognizes that protocol is a unsigned 8 bit value. This will allow us to better understand what limitations may or may not be present in how we handle the data. For example there are a number of places that call htonl on the protocol value. This is likely not necessary and can be replaced with a multiplication by ntohl(1) which will be converted to a shift by the compiler. ipv4: Update parameters for csum_tcpudp_magic to their original types
This patch updates all instances of csum_tcpudp_magic and csum_tcpudp_nofold to reflect the types that are usually used as the source inputs. For example the protocol field is populated based on nexthdr which is actually an unsigned 8 bit value. The length is usually populated based on skb->len which is an unsigned integer. This addresses an issue in which the IPv6 function csum_ipv6_magic was generating a checksum using the full 32b of skb->len while csum_tcpudp_magic was only using the lower 16 bits. As a result we could run into issues when attempting to adjust the checksum as there was no protocol agnostic way to update it. With this change the value is still truncated as many architectures use "(len + proto) << 8", however this truncation only occurs for values greater than 16776960 in length and as such is unlikely to occur as we stop the inner headers at ~64K in size. I did have to make a few minor changes in the arm, mn10300, nios2, and score versions of the function in order to support these changes as they were either using things such as an OR to combine the protocol and length, or were using ntohs to convert the length which would have truncated the value. I also updated a few spots in terms of whitespace and type differences for the addresses. Most of this was just to make sure all of the definitions were in sync going forward. For a long time all architectures implement the pci_dma_* functions using the generic DMA API, and they all use the same header to do so. net: Facility to report route quality of connected sockets
This patch add the SO_CNX_ADVICE socket option (setsockopt only). The purpose is to allow an application to give feedback to the kernel about the quality of the network path for a connected socket. The value argument indicates the type of quality report. For this initial patch the only supported advice is a value of 1 which indicates "bad path, please reroute"-- the action taken by the kernel is to call dst_negative_advice which will attempt to choose a different ECMP route, reset the TX hash for flow label and UDP source port in encapsulation, etc. This facility should be useful for connected UDP sockets where only the application can provide any feedback about path quality. It could also be useful for TCP applications that have additional knowledge about the path outside of the normal TCP control loop. arch/frv/include/asm/io.h: accept const void pointers for read{b,w,l}()
The SMD driver is reading and writing chunks of data to iomem, and there's an __iowrite32_copy() function for the writing part, but no __ioread32_copy() function for the reading part. This series adds __ioread32_copy() and uses it in two places. This patch (of 4): The frv port uses compiler builtins, __builtin_read*(), for the I/O read routines. Unfortunately, these don't accept const void pointers although the generic ASM implementations do, so generic code passing const pointers to these APIs cause compilers to emit warnings. Add wrapper functions that cast away the const to avoid the warnings. 1/ Media error handling: The 'badblocks' implementation that originated in md-raid is up-levelled to a generic capability of a block device. This initial implementation is limited to being consulted in the pmem block-i/o path. Later, 'badblocks' will be consulted when creating dax mappings. 2/ Raw block device dax: For virtualization and other cases that want large contiguous mappings of persistent memory, add the capability to dax-mmap a block device directly. 3/ Increased /dev/mem restrictions: Add an option to treat all io-memory as IORESOURCE_EXCLUSIVE, i.e. disable /dev/mem access while a driver is actively using an address range. This behavior is controlled via the new CONFIG_IO_STRICT_DEVMEM option and can be overridden by the existing "iomem=relaxed" kernel command line option. 4/ Miscellaneous fixes include a 'pfn'-device huge page alignment fix, block device shutdown crash fix, and other small libnvdimm fixes. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1 iQIcBAABAgAGBQJWlrhjAAoJEB7SkWpmfYgCFbAQALKsQfFwT6JFS+zlPgiNpbqw 2VMNKEH0AfGYGj96mT02j2q+vSUmXLMIDMTsbe0sDdtwFZtQbFmhmryzPWUVppSu KGTlLPW8vuEhQVs91+UI3BQKkvpi0+tbR8hPOh9W6QhjpRT+lyHFKnsNR5HZy5wB K4/VMaT5ffd5/pXRTjkYiPQYTwWyfcvNjICj0YtqhPvOwS031m77JpFsWJ8HSpEX K99VlzNUPMXd1pYkHmFNXWw52fhRGNhwAEomLeKMdQfKms+KnbKp8BOSA0aCqU8E kpujQcilDXJwykFQZOFI3Z5Dxvrv8lxFTU8HRMBvo3ESzfTWjfqcvyjGOjDUcruw ihESFSJtdZzhrBiMnf9RRqSpMFJvAT8MVT6Q4D3mZUHCMPbUqFJsQjMPt9hEH3ho 4F0D2lesOCkubUKFTZmjMoDb+szuKbVhYK8TeFVVEhizinc/Aj0NKuazJqi+CXB/ xh0ER4ZxD8wvzqFFWvS5UvR1G9I5fr7+3jGRUrqGLHlSdeXP9dkEg28ao3QbWk3x 1dPOen6ZqQ9WJ/E7eGmXbVEz2R4Xd79hMXQzdQwmKDk/KbxRoAp7hyU8BslAyrBf HCdmVt+RAgrxZYfFRXuLhqwEBThJnNrgZA3qu74FUpkpFg6xRUu1bAYBiF7N+bFi 82b5UbMkveBTtkXjJoiR =7V5r -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'libnvdimm-for-4.5' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/nvdimm/nvdimm Pull libnvdimm updates from Dan Williams: "The bulk of this has appeared in -next and independently received a build success notification from the kbuild robot. Merge branch 'strscpy' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/cmetcalf/linux-tile
Pull strscpy string copy function implementation from Chris Metcalf. Chris sent this during the merge window, but I waffled back and forth on the pull request, which is why it's going in only now. The new "strscpy()" function is definitely easier to use and more secure than either strncpy() or strlcpy(), both of which are horrible nasty interfaces that have serious and irredeemable problems. strncpy() has a useless return value, and doesn't NUL-terminate an overlong result. To make matters worse, it pads a short result with zeroes, which is a performance disaster if you have big buffers. strlcpy(), by contrast, is a mis-designed "fix" for strlcpy(), lacking the insane NUL padding, but having a differently broken return value which returns the original length of the source string. Which means that it will read characters past the count from the source buffer, and you have to trust the source to be properly terminated. It also makes error handling fragile, since the test for overflow is unnecessarily subtle. strscpy() avoids both these problems, guaranteeing the NUL termination (but not excessive padding) if the destination size wasn't zero, and making the overflow condition very obvious by returning -E2BIG. It also doesn't read past the size of the source, and can thus be used for untrusted source data too. So why did I waffle about this for so long? Every time we introduce a new-and-improved interface, people start doing these interminable series of trivial conversion patches. And every time that happens, somebody does some silly mistake, and the conversion patch to the improved interface actually makes things worse. Because the patch is mindnumbing and trivial, nobody has the attention span to look at it carefully, and it's usually done over large swatches of source code which means that not every conversion gets tested. So I'm pulling the strscpy() support because it *is* a better interface. But I will refuse to pull mindless conversion patches. Use this in places where it makes sense, but don't do trivial patches to fix things that aren't actually known to be broken. * 'strscpy' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/cmetcalf/linux-tile: tile: use global strscpy() rather than private copy string: provide strscpy() Make asm/word-at-a-time.h available on all architectures |

atomic, arch: Audit atomic_{read,set}()
This patch makes sure that atomic_{read,set}() are at least {READ,WRITE}_ONCE(). We already had the 'requirement' that atomic_read() should use ACCESS_ONCE(), and most archs had this, but a few were lacking. All are now converted to use READ_ONCE(). And, by a symmetry and general paranoia argument, upgrade atomic_set() to use WRITE_ONCE(). Merge branch 'locking-core-for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tip/tip
Pull locking and atomic updates from Ingo Molnar: "Main changes in this cycle are: - Extend atomic primitives with coherent logic op primitives (atomic_{or,and,xor}()) and deprecate the old partial APIs (atomic_{set,clear}_mask()) The old ops were incoherent with incompatible signatures across architectures and with incomplete support. Now every architecture supports the primitives consistently (by Peter Zijlstra) - Generic support for 'relaxed atomics': - _acquire/release/relaxed() flavours of xchg(), cmpxchg() and {add,sub}_return() - atomic_read_acquire() - atomic_set_release() This came out of porting qwrlock code to arm64 (by Will Deacon) - Clean up the fragile static_key APIs that were causing repeat bugs, by introducing a new one: DEFINE_STATIC_KEY_TRUE(name); DEFINE_STATIC_KEY_FALSE(name); which define a key of different types with an initial true/false value. arch/*/io.h: Add ioremap_uc() to all architectures
This adds ioremap_uc() only for architectures that do not include asm-generic.h/io.h as that already provides a default definition for them for both cases where you have CONFIG_MMU and you do not, and because of this, the number of architectures this patch address is less than the architectures that the ioremap_wt() patch addressed, "arch/*/io.h: Add ioremap_wt() to all architectures"). In order to reduce the number of architectures we have to modify by adding new architecture IO APIs we'll have to review the architectures in this patch, see why they can't add asm-generic.h/io.h or issues that would be created by doing so and then spread a consistent inclusion of this header towards the end of their own header. For instance arch/metag includes the asm-generic/io.h *before* the ioremap*() definitions, this should be the other way around but only once we have guard wrappers for the non-MMU case also for asm-generic/io.h. PCI: Remove unused "pci_probe" flags
The following flags are only used on x86, but they got copied to FR-V, MN10300, and SuperH: PCI_PROBE_BIOS PCI_PROBE_CONF1 PCI_PROBE_CONF2 PCI_ASSIGN_ROMS PCI_NO_CHECKS PCI_BIOS_IRQ_SCAN PCI_ASSIGN_ALL_BUSSES FR-V and MN10300 do test for PCI_ASSIGN_ROMS, but they never set it, so it's dead code. frv: Rewrite atomic implementation
Mostly complete rewrite of the FRV atomic implementation, instead of using assembly files, use inline assembler. The out-of-line CONFIG option makes a bit of a mess of things, but a little CPP trickery gets that done too. FRV already had the atomic logic ops but under a non standard name, the reimplementation provides the generic names and provides the intermediate form required for the bitops implementation. The slightly inconsistent __atomic32_fetch_##op naming is because __atomic_fetch_##op conlicts with GCC builtin functions. The 64bit atomic ops use the inline assembly %Ln construct to access the low word register (r+1), afaik this construct was not previously used in the kernel and is completely undocumented, but I found it in the FRV GCC code and it seems to work. FRV had a non-standard definition of atomic_{clear,set}_mask() which would work types other than atomic_t, the one user relying on that (arch/frv/kernel/dma.c) got converted to use the new intermediate form. PCI: Call pci_read_bridge_bases() from core instead of arch code
When we scan a PCI bus, we read PCI-PCI bridge window registers with pci_read_bridge_bases() so we can validate the resource hierarchy. Most architectures call pci_read_bridge_bases() from pcibios_fixup_bus(), but PCI-PCI bridges are not arch-specific, so this doesn't need to be in arch-specific code. Call pci_read_bridge_bases() directly from the PCI core instead of from arch code. For alpha and mips, we now call pci_read_bridge_bases() always; previously we only called it if PCI_PROBE_ONLY was set. Make asm/word-at-a-time.h available on all architectures
Added the x86 implementation of word-at-a-time to the generic version, which previously only supported big-endian. Omitted the x86-specific load_unaligned_zeropad(), which in any case is also not present for the existing BE-only implementation of a word-at-a-time, and is only used under CONFIG_DCACHE_WORD_ACCESS. Added as a "generic-y" to the Kbuilds of all architectures that didn't previously have it. Signed-off-by: Chris Metcalf <cmetcalf@ezchip.com> |

frv: use for_each_sg()
This replaces the plain loop over the sglist array with for_each_sg() macro which consists of sg_next() function calls. Since frv doesn't select ARCH_HAS_SG_CHAIN, it is not necessary to use for_each_sg() in order to loop over each sg element. But this can help find problems with drivers that do not properly initialize their sg tables when CONFIG_DEBUG_SG is enabled. mm: new mm hook framework
CRIU is recreating the process memory layout by remapping the checkpointee memory area on top of the current process (criu). This includes remapping the vDSO to the place it has at checkpoint time. However some architectures like powerpc are keeping a reference to the vDSO base address to build the signal return stack frame by calling the vDSO sigreturn service. So once the vDSO has been moved, this reference is no more valid and the signal frame built later are not usable. This patch serie is introducing a new mm hook framework, and a new arch_remap hook which is called when mremap is done and the mm lock still hold. The next patch is adding the vDSO remap and unmap tracking to the powerpc architecture. This patch (of 3): This patch introduces a new set of header file to manage mm hooks: - per architecture empty header file (arch/x/include/asm/mm-arch-hooks.h) - a generic header (include/linux/mm-arch-hooks.h) The architecture which need to overwrite a hook as to redefine it in its header file, while architecture which doesn't need have nothing to do. The default hooks are defined in the generic header and are used in the case the architecture is not defining it. In a next step, mm hooks defined in include/asm-generic/mm_hooks.h should be moved here. Merge branch 'x86-core-for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tip/tip
Pull x86 core updates from Ingo Molnar: "There were so many changes in the x86/asm, x86/apic and x86/mm topics in this cycle that the topical separation of -tip broke down somewhat - so the result is a more traditional architecture pull request, collected into the 'x86/core' topic. The topics were still maintained separately as far as possible, so bisectability and conceptual separation should still be pretty good - but there were a handful of merge points to avoid excessive dependencies (and conflicts) that would have been poorly tested in the end. The next cycle will hopefully be much more quiet (or at least will have fewer dependencies). The main changes in this cycle were: * x86/apic changes, with related IRQ core changes: (Jiang Liu, Thomas Gleixner) - This is the second and most intrusive part of changes to the x86 interrupt handling - full conversion to hierarchical interrupt domains: [IOAPIC domain] ----- | [MSI domain] --------[Remapping domain] ----- [ Vector domain ] | (optional) | [HPET MSI domain] ----- | | [DMAR domain] ----------------------------- | [Legacy domain] ----------------------------- This now reflects the actual hardware and allowed us to distangle the domain specific code from the underlying parent domain, which can be optional in the case of interrupt remapping. It's a clear separation of functionality and removes quite some duct tape constructs which plugged the remap code between ioapic/msi/hpet and the vector management. - Intel IOMMU IRQ remapping enhancements, to allow direct interrupt injection into guests (Feng Wu) * x86/asm changes: - Tons of cleanups and small speedups, micro-optimizations. This is in preparation to move a good chunk of the low level entry code from assembly to C code (Denys Vlasenko, Andy Lutomirski, Brian Gerst) - Moved all system entry related code to a new home under arch/x86/entry/ (Ingo Molnar) - Removal of the fragile and ugly CFI dwarf debuginfo annotations. Conversion to C will reintroduce many of them - but meanwhile they are only getting in the way, and the upstream kernel does not rely on them (Ingo Molnar) - NOP handling refinements. (Borislav Petkov) * x86/mm changes: - Big PAT and MTRR rework: making the code more robust and preparing to phase out exposing direct MTRR interfaces to drivers - in favor of using PAT driven interfaces (Toshi Kani, Luis R Rodriguez, Borislav Petkov) - New ioremap_wt()/set_memory_wt() interfaces to support Write-Through cached memory mappings. This is especially important for good performance on NVDIMM hardware (Toshi Kani) * x86/ras changes: - Add support for deferred errors on AMD (Aravind Gopalakrishnan) This is an important RAS feature which adds hardware support for poisoned data. That means roughly that the hardware marks data which it has detected as corrupted but wasn't able to correct, as poisoned data and raises an APIC interrupt to signal that in the form of a deferred error. It is the OS's responsibility then to take proper recovery action and thus prolonge system lifetime as far as possible. - Add support for Intel "Local MCE"s: upcoming CPUs will support CPU-local MCE interrupts, as opposed to the traditional system- wide broadcasted MCE interrupts (Ashok Raj) - Misc cleanups (Borislav Petkov) * x86/platform changes: - Intel Atom SoC updates ... and lots of other cleanups, fixlets and other changes - see the shortlog and the Git log for details" * 'x86-core-for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tip/tip: (222 commits) x86/hpet: Use proper hpet device number for MSI allocation x86/hpet: Check for irq==0 when allocating hpet MSI interrupts x86/mm/pat, drivers/infiniband/ipath: Use arch_phys_wc_add() and require PAT disabled x86/mm/pat, drivers/media/ivtv: Use arch_phys_wc_add() and require PAT disabled x86/platform/intel/baytrail: Add comments about why we disabled HPET on Baytrail genirq: Prevent crash in irq_move_irq() genirq: Enhance irq_data_to_desc() to support hierarchy irqdomain iommu, x86: Properly handle posted interrupts for IOMMU hotplug iommu, x86: Provide irq_remapping_cap() interface iommu, x86: Setup Posted-Interrupts capability for Intel iommu iommu, x86: Add cap_pi_support() to detect VT-d PI capability iommu, x86: Avoid migrating VT-d posted interrupts iommu, x86: Save the mode (posted or remapped) of an IRTE iommu, x86: Implement irq_set_vcpu_affinity for intel_ir_chip iommu: dmar: Provide helper to copy shared irte fields iommu: dmar: Extend struct irte for VT-d Posted-Interrupts iommu: Add new member capability to struct irq_remap_ops x86/asm/entry/64: Disentangle error_entry/exit gsbase/ebx/usermode code x86/asm/entry/32: Shorten __audit_syscall_entry() args preparation x86/asm/entry/32: Explain reloading of registers after __audit_syscall_entry() ... |

frv: add module.h to mb93090-mb00/flash.c to avoid compile fail
This file is built off of a tristate Kconfig option and also contains modular function calls so it should explicitly include module.h to avoid compile breakage during header shuffles done in the future. arch/*/io.h: Add ioremap_wt() to all architectures
Add ioremap_wt() to all arch-specific asm/io.h headers which define ioremap_wc() locally. These headers do not include <asm-generic/iomap.h>. Some of them include <asm-generic/io.h>, but ioremap_wt() is defined for consistency since they define all ioremap_xxx locally. In all architectures without Write-Through support, ioremap_wt() is defined indentical to ioremap_nocache(). frv and m68k already have ioremap_writethrough(). On those we add ioremap_wt() indetical to ioremap_writethrough() and defines ARCH_HAS_IOREMAP_WT in both architectures. The ioremap_wt() interface is exported to drivers.
