431e76c3ed ALSA: hda/realtek - Add supported new mute Led for HP
HP Note Book supported new mute Led.
Hardware PIN was not enough to meet old LED rule.
JD2 to control playback mute led.
GPO3 to control capture mute led.
(ALC285 didn't control GPO3 via verb command)
This two PIN just could control by COEF registers.

ca707b3f00 ALSA: hda/realtek - Add quirk for Lenovo Carbon X1 8th gen
The audio setup on the Lenovo Carbon X1 8th gen is the same as that on
the Lenovo Carbon X1 7th gen, as such it needs the same
ALC285_FIXUP_THINKPAD_HEADSET_JACK quirk.

This fixes volume control of the speaker not working among other things.

f36938aa74 ALSA: hda/realtek - Remove now-unnecessary XPS 13 headphone noise fixups
patch_realtek.c has historically failed to properly configure the PC
Beep Hidden Register for the ALC256 codec (among others). Depending on
your kernel version, symptoms of this misconfiguration can range from
chassis noise, picked up by a poorly-shielded PCBEEP trace, getting
amplified and played on your internal speaker and/or headphones to loud
feedback, which responds to the "Headphone Mic Boost" ALSA control,
getting played through your headphones. For details of the problem, see
the patch in this series titled "ALSA: hda/realtek - Set principled PC
Beep configuration for ALC256", which fixes the configuration.

These symptoms have been most noticed on the Dell XPS 13 9350 and 9360,
popular laptops that use the ALC256. As a result, several model-specific
fixups have been introduced to try and fix the problem, the most
egregious of which locks the "Headphone Mic Boost" control as a hack to
minimize noise from a feedback loop that shouldn't have been there in
the first place.

Now that the underlying issue has been fixed, remove all these fixups.
Remaining fixups needed by the XPS 13 are all picked up by existing pin
quirks.

This change should, for the XPS 13 9350/9360

 - Significantly increase volume and audio quality on headphones
 - Eliminate headphone popping on suspend/resume
 - Allow "Headphone Mic Boost" to be set again, making the headphone
jack fully usable as a microphone jack too.

c447374494 ALSA: hda/realtek - Set principled PC Beep configuration for ALC256
The Realtek PC Beep Hidden Register[1] is currently set by
patch_realtek.c in two different places:

In alc_fill_eapd_coef(), it's set to the value 0x5757, corresponding to
non-beep input on 1Ah and no 1Ah loopback to either headphones or
speakers. (Although, curiously, the loopback amp is still enabled.) This
write was added fairly recently by commit e3743f431143 ("ALSA:
hda/realtek - Dell headphone has noise on unmute for ALC236") and is a
safe default. However, it happens in the wrong place:
alc_fill_eapd_coef() runs on module load and cold boot but not on S3
resume, meaning the register loses its value after suspend.

Conversely, in alc256_init(), the register is updated to unset bit 13
(disable speaker loopback) and set bit 5 (set non-beep input on 1Ah).
Although this write does run on S3 resume, it's not quite enough to fix
up the register's default value of 0x3717. What's missing is a set of
bit 14 to disable headphone loopback. Without that, we end up with a
feedback loop where the headphone jack is being driven by amplified
samples of itself[2].

This change eliminates the update in alc256_init() and replaces it with
the 0x5757 write from alc_fill_eapd_coef(). Kailang says that 0x5757 is
supposed to be the codec's default value, so using it will make
debugging easier for Realtek.

Affects the ALC255, ALC256, ALC257, ALC235, and ALC236 codecs.

[1] Newly documented in Documentation/sound/hd-audio/realtek-pc-beep.rst

[2] Setting the "Headphone Mic Boost" control from userspace changes
this feedback loop and has been a widely-shared workaround for headphone
noise on laptops like the Dell XPS 13 9350. This commit eliminates the
feedback loop and makes the workaround unnecessary.

476c02e0b4 ALSA: hda/realtek - a fake key event is triggered by running shutup
On the Lenovo X1C7 machines, after we plug the headset, the rt_resume()
and rt_suspend() of the codec driver will be called periodically, the
driver can't stay in the rt_suspend state even users doen't use the
sound card.

Through debugging, I found when running rt_suspend(), it will call
alc225_shutup(), in this function, it will change 3k pull down control
by alc_update_coef_idx(codec, 0x4a, 0, 3 << 10), this will trigger a
fake key event and that event will resume the codec, when codec
suspend agin, it will trigger the fake key event one more time, this
process will repeat.

If disable the key event before changing the pull down control, it
will not trigger fake key event. It also needs to restore the pull
down control and re-enable the key event, otherwise the system can't
get key event when codec is in rt_suspend state.

Also move some functions ahead of alc225_shutup(), this can save the
function declaration.

1a462be52f ALSA: hda: Manage concurrent reg access more properly
In the commit 8e85def572 ("ALSA: hda: enable regmap internal
locking"), we re-enabled the regmap lock due to the reported
regression that showed the possible concurrent accesses. It was a
temporary workaround, and there are still a few opened races even
after the revert. In this patch, we cover those still opened windows
with a proper mutex lock and disable the regmap internal lock again.

First off, the patch introduces a new snd_hdac_device.regmap_lock
mutex that is applied for each snd_hdac_regmap_*() call, including
read, write and update helpers. The mutex is applied carefully so
that it won't block the self-power-up procedure in the helper
function. Also, this assures the protection for the accesses without
regmap, too.

The snd_hdac_regmap_update_raw() is refactored to use the standard
regmap_update_bits_check() function instead of the open-code. The
non-regmap case is still open-coded but it's an easy part. The all
read and write operations are in the single mutex protection, so it's
now race-free.

In addition, a couple of new helper functions are added:
snd_hdac_regmap_update_raw_once() and snd_hdac_regmap_sync().  Both
are called from HD-audio legacy driver. The former is to initialize
the given verb bits but only once when it's not initialized yet. Due
to this condition, the function invokes regcache_cache_only(), and
it's now performed inside the regmap_lock (formerly it was racy) too.
The latter function is for simply invoking regcache_sync() inside the
regmap_lock, which is called from the codec resume call path.
Along with that, the HD-audio codec driver code is slightly modified /
simplified to adapt those new functions.

And finally, snd_hdac_regmap_read_raw(), *_write_raw(), etc are
rewritten with the helper macro. It's just for simplification because
the code logic is identical among all those functions.

436e25505f ("ALSA: hda/realtek - Enable internal speaker of ASUS
UX431FLC") which only enables the amplifier and the front speaker.
This commit enables the bass speaker on top of the aforementioned
work to improve the acoustic experience.

336820c437 ALSA: hda/realtek - Fix inverted bass GPIO pin on Acer 8951G
We've added the bass speaker support on Acer 8951G by the commit
00066e9733 ("Add Acer Aspire Ethos 8951G model quirk"), but it seems
that the GPIO pin was wrongly set: while the commit turns off the bit
to power up the amp, the actual hardware reacts other way round,
i.e. GPIO bit on = amp on.

So this patch fixes the bug, turning on the GPIO bit 0x02 as default.
Since turning on the GPIO bit can be more easily managed with
alc_setup_gpio() call, we simplify the quirk code by integrating the
GPIO setup into the existing alc662_fixup_aspire_ethos_hp() and
dropping the whole ALC669_FIXUP_ACER_ASPIRE_ETHOS_SUBWOOFER quirk.

1099f48457 ALSA: hda/realtek: Reduce the Headphone static noise on XPS 9350/9360
Headphone on XPS 9350/9360 produces a background white noise. The The
noise level somehow correlates with "Headphone Mic Boost", when it sets
to 1 the noise disappears. However, doing this has a side effect, which
also decreases the overall headphone volume so I didn't send the patch
upstream.

The noise was bearable back then, but after commit 717f43d81a ("ALSA:

a point it starts hurting ears.

So let's use the workaround to set "Headphone Mic Boost" to 1 and lock

The laptop has a combined jack to attach headsets on the right.
The BIOS encodes them as two different colored jacks at the front,
but otherwise it seems to be configured ok. But any adaption of
the pins config on its own doesn't fix the jack detection to work
in Linux. Still Windows works correct.

This is somehow fixed by chaining ALC256_FIXUP_ASUS_HEADSET_MODE,
which seems to register the microphone jack as a headset part and
also results in fixing jack sensing, visible in dmesg as:

-snd_hda_codec_realtek hdaudioC0D0: Mic=0x19
+snd_hda_codec_realtek hdaudioC0D0: Headset Mic=0x19

[ Actually the essential change is the location of the jack; the

00066e9733 Add Acer Aspire Ethos 8951G model quirk
This notebook has 6 built in speakers for 5.1 surround support, however
only two got autodetected and have also not been assigned correctly.

This patch enables all speakers and also fixes muting when headphones are
plugged in.

The speaker layout is as follows:

pin 0x15 Front Left / Front Right
pin 0x18 Front Center / Subwoofer
pin 0x1b Rear Left / Rear Right (Surround)

The quirk will be enabled automatically on this hardware, but can also be
activated manually via the model=aspire-ethos module parameter.

Caveat: pin 0x1b is shared between headphones jack and surround speakers.
When headphones are plugged in, the surround speakers get muted
automatically by the hardware, however all other speakers remain
unmuted. Currently it's not possible to make use of the generic automute
function in the driver, because such shared pins are not supported.

If we would change the pin settings to identify the pin as headphones,
the surround channel and thus the ability to select 5.1 profiles would
get lost.

This quirk solves the above problem by monitoring jack state of 0x1b and
by connecting/disconnecting all remaining speaker pins when something
gets plugged in or unplugged from the headphones jack port.

supposed to be safe, but it isn't actually; some devices have quirk
setups to override the EAPD via COEF or BTL in the additional verb

this EAPD setup is again overridden in alc_auto_init_amp().

For recovering from the regression, tell snd_hda_gen_init() not to
apply the verbs there by a new flag, then apply the verbs in

to enter D3 before rebooting or poweroff, let us add a generic
reboot_notify, then realtek and conexant drivers can call this
function.

[ This is rather a revival of the patch Tomas sent in months ago, but

Hard coded coefficients to make Huawuei Matebook X right speaker
work. The Matebook X has a ALC298, please refer to bug 197801 on
how these numbers were reverse engineered from the Windows driver

The reversed engineered sequence represents a repeating pattern
of verbs, and the only values that are changing periodically are
written on indexes 0x23 and 0x25:

0x500, 0x23
0x400, VALUE1
0x500, 0x25
0x400, VALUE2

* skipped reading sequences (0x500 - 0xc00 sequences are ignored)
* static values from reverse engineering are used

NOTE: since a significant risk is still considered, this is provided
as an experimental fix that isn't applied as default for now. For
enabling the fix, you'll have to choose huawei-mbx-stereo via model
option of snd-hda-intel module.

If we get feedback from users that this works stably, we may apply it
per default.

9cb40eb184 ALSA: hda/realtek - Improve the headset mic for Acer Aspire laptops
We met another Acer Aspire laptop which has the problem on the
headset-mic, the Pin 0x19 is not set the corret configuration for a
mic and the pin presence can't be detected too after plugging a
headset. Kailang suggested that we should set the coeff to enable the
mic and apply the ALC269_FIXUP_LIFEBOOK_EXTMIC. After doing that,
both headset-mic presence and headset-mic work well.

The existing ALC255_FIXUP_ACER_MIC_NO_PRESENCE set the headset-mic
jack to be a phantom jack. Now since the jack can support presence
unsol event, let us imporve it to set the jack to be a normal jack.

c9af753f26 ALSA: hda/realtek - Avoid superfluous COEF EAPD setups
Realtek codec driver applied the COEF setups to change the EAPD
control to the default mode (i.e. control by EPAD verbs) at the init
callback. It works, but this is too excessive at the same time, since
it's called at each runtime PM resume. That is, the initialization
should be done only once after the probe. One may think that moving
this to the probe should be OK, but no -- there is a catch; when a
system resumes from S4 (hibernation), we need to re-initialize this
again manually, because it's out of regcache restoration.

This patch addresses the issue by introducing alc_pre_init() function
that performs such a task. This is called from each codec probe
function, and it's called from the resume callback conditionally only
from S4 resume.

attached to 0x1a that does not have a jack detect. In order to get it
working, the pin configuration needs to be set correctly, and the
ALC269_FIXUP_HEADSET_MODE_NO_HP_MIC fixup needs to be applied. This is
identical to the patch already applied for the System76 Darter Pro

c0ca5eced2 ALSA: hda/realtek - Reduce click noise on Dell Precision 5820 headphone
Dell Precision 5820 with ALC3234 codec (which is equivalent with
ALC255) shows click noises at (runtime) PM resume on the headphone.
The biggest source of the noise comes from the cleared headphone pin
control at resume, which is done via the standard shutup procedure.

Although we have an override of the standard shutup callback to
replace with NOP, this would skip other needed stuff (e.g. the pull
down of headset power). So, instead, this "fixes" the behavior of
alc_fixup_no_shutup() by introducing spec->no_shutup_pins flag.
When this flag is set, Realtek codec won't call the standard
snd_hda_shutup_pins() & co. Now alc_fixup_no_shutup() just sets this
flag instead of overriding spec->shutup callback itself. This allows
us to apply the similar fix for other entries easily if needed in
future.

7f665b1c32 ALSA: hda/realtek - Headset microphone and internal speaker support for System76 oryp5
On the System76 Oryx Pro (oryp5), there is a headset microphone input
attached to 0x19 that does not have a jack detect. In order to get it

693abe11aa ALSA: hda/realtek - Fixed hp_pin no value
Fix hp_pin always no value.

[More notes on the changes:

The hp_pin value that is referred in alc294_hp_init() is always zero
at the moment the function gets called, hence this is actually
useless as in the current code.

And, this kind of init sequence should be called from the codec init
callback, instead of the parser function. So, the first fix in this
patch to move the call call into its own init_hook.

OTOH, this function is needed to be called only once after the boot,
and it'd take too long for invoking at each resume (where the init
callback gets called). So we add a new flag and invoke this only
 once as an additional fix.

The one case is still not covered, though: S4 resume. But this
change itself won't lead to any regression in that regard, so we
leave S4 issue as is for now and fix it later. -- tiwai ]

54947cd64c ALSA: hda/realtek - Fix speaker output regression on Thinkpad T570
We've got a regression report for some Thinkpad models (at least
T570s) which shows the too low speaker output volume. The bisection
leaded to the commit 61fcf8ece9 ("ALSA: hda/realtek - Enable Thinkpad
Dock device for ALC298 platform"), and it's basically adding the two
pin configurations for the dock, and looks harmless.

The real culprit seems, though, that the DAC assignment for the
speaker pin is implicitly assumed on these devices, i.e. pin NID 0x14
to be coupled with DAC NID 0x03. When more pins are configured by the
commit above, the auto-parser changes the DAC assignment, and this
resulted in the regression.

As a workaround, just provide the fixed pin / DAC mapping table for
this Thinkpad fixup function. It's no generic solution, but the
problem itself is pretty much device-specific, so must be good
enough.

b3802783d0 ALSA: hda - Support led audio trigger
Now all relevant platform drivers are providing the LED audio trigger,
we can switch the mute LED control with the LED trigger, finally.

For the mic-mute LED trigger, a common fixup function,
snd_hda_gen_fixup_micmute_led(), is provided to be called for the
corresponding quirk entries. This sets up the capture sync hook with
ledtrig_audio_set() call appropriately.

For the mute LED trigger, which is done currently only for
thinkpad_acpi, the call is replaced with ledtrig_audio_set() as well.

Overall, the beauty of the new implementation is that the whole ugly
bindings with request_symbol() are dropped, and also that it provides
more flexibility to users.

One potential behavior change by this patch is that the mute LED enum
may be created on machines that actually have no LED device. In the
former code, we did test-call and abort binding if the test failed.
But with the LED-trigger binding, this test isn't possible, and the
actual check is done in the LED class device side. So it's the
downside of simpleness.

Also, note that the HD-audio codec driver doesn't select CONFIG_LEDS
and co by itself. It's supposed to be selected by the platform
drivers instead.

efe557320a ALSA: hda/realtek - Apply PRE_PROBE fixup after ALC269 codec variant setups
Currently patch_alc269() calls the fixup with HDA_FIXUP_ACT_PRE_PROBE
before setting up the codec model-specific setups (e.g. setting
codec_variant or mixer_nid setup). This is rather confusing as others
do call the *_PRE_PROBE fixup after such a setup. Due to this
disorder, we have to override spec->shutup not at the usual
HDA_FIXUP_ACT_PRE_PROBE but the unusual HDA_FIXUP_ACT_PROBE time.

This patch corrects the fixup call orders in patch_alc269(), and also
corrects the action to set up spec->shutup accordingly.

No functional changes but just refactoring.

fea80fae55 ALSA: hda/realtek - Use common helper for creating beep controls
In the Realtek codec driver, we used to build kctl elements for beep
mixer in the own build_controls callback. This is an open-code and
can be covered by the standard feature of the generic parser with
snd_hda_gen_add_kctl() instead.

Also, after the conversion, spec->beep_amp becomes superfluous; hence
it's removed along with the conversion.

The beep mixer controls are the only remaining stuff that uses
spec->mixers[] array, and they can be well converted to the standard

This simplifies the code, especially the superfluous mixers and
num_mixers fields can be now removed from alc_spec.

Dell XPS13 has multi-step fixups, and one of them
(ALC288_FIXUP_DELL_XPS_13_GPIO6) corresponds to the management of GPIO
bit6 (0x40). It used to be a static init verbs (to turn *off* the
bit6).

In this patch, we convert it as the gpio_mask and gpio_dir
initializations folded in the existing fixup function. With this
change, ALC288_FIXUP_DELL_XPS_13_GPIO6 becomes superfluous, thus it's
removed.

1c76aa5fb4 ALSA: hda/realtek - Allow skipping spec->init_amp detection
Some devices have the overrides of spec->init_amp at
HDA_FIXUP_ACT_PROBE just because alc_ssid_check() gives the
false-positive values from the SSID.

For more consistent behavior, define the logic in the following way:

- Define ALC_INIT_UNDEFINED as the default value before calling
  alc_ssid_check()
- Each fixup may set up spec->init_amp with another value at
  HDA_FIXUP_ACT_PRE_PROBE
- At detection, check whether spec->init_amp is ALC_INIT_UNDEFINED or
not; if it's different, we skip the detection

Also, it turned out that ASUS TX300 requires the spec->init_amp
override, too; currently it ignores the GPIO bits implicitly by its
static init verb, but this will be changed in the later patchset.

c7273bd6c1 ALSA: hda/realtek - Add shutup hint
The pin shutup callback seems working well on some devices while it
does harm on some other devices; e.g. Lenovo laptops show often the
noises at (runtime) PM with the pin shutup enabled.

Currently, the only way to disable the pin shutup is to hard-code
  spec->shutup = alc_no_shutup;
in the fixup, and this makes the debugging harder for normal users.
For allowing users to test the similar effect without recompiling the
kernel, this patch adds a new hint string "shutup". It's a boolean
value, and by passing false to this, user can turn off the pin shutup
call.

For example, to turn off the shutup on Lenovo P50, create a "firmware
patch" file (e.g. /lib/firmware/alsa/lenovo-p50) containing the
following lines:

  [codec]
  0x10ec0298 0x17aa222e 0

  [hint]
  shutup = no

and pass the file via patch option of snd-hda-intel module
(e.g. patch=alsa/lenovo-p50).
