Previously, dpu_crtc_frame_event_work() would try to aquire all the
modeset locks in order to check whether it can release bandwidth. (If
we only have cmd-mode display, bandwidth can be released at frame-done
time.)
The problem with this is that it is also responsible for signalling
frame_done_comp, which dpu_crtc_commit_kickoff() waits on if there is
already a frame pending. This is called in the msm_atomic_commit_tail()
path.. which means that for non-nonblock commits, at least some of the
modeset locks are already held.
Re-work this scheme to use a reference count to track our need to have
clocks enabled. It is incremented for each atomic commit, and
decremented in the corresponding frame-done. Additionally, any crtc
used in video mode hold an extra reference while they are enabled. The
net effect is that we can determine in frame-done whether it is safe to
drop bandwidth without needing to aquire any modeset locks.

the size of a structure that has a zero-sized array at the end, along
with memory for some number of elements for that array. For example:
struct msm_gem_submit {

struct {
...

Make use of the struct_size() helper instead of an open-coded version
in order to avoid any potential type mistakes.
So, replace the following form:
sizeof(*submit) + ((u64)nr_bos * sizeof(submit->bos[0]))

Normally we would fetch the GPIOs from the device with the
flags GPIOD_IN or GPIOD_OUT_[LOW|HIGH] to set up the lines
immediately, but since the code seems eager to actively
drive the lines high/low when turning HDMI on and off, we
just fetch the GPIOs as-is and keep the code explicitly
driving them.
The old code would try legacy bindings (GPIOs without any
"-gpios" suffix) but this has been moved to the gpiolib
as a quirk by the previous patch.

add_gpu_components() adds found GPU nodes from the DT to the match list,
regardless of the status of the nodes. This is a problem, because if the
nodes are disabled, they should not be on the match list because they will
not be matched. This prevents display from initing if a GPU node is
defined, but it's status is disabled.
Fix this by checking the node's status before adding it to the match list.

The mdp5 drm/kms driver currently does not work on command-mode DSI
panels due to 'vblank wait timed out' errors. This causes a latency
of seconds, or tens of seconds in some cases, before content is shown
on the panel. This hardware does not have the something that we can use
as a frame counter available when running in command mode, so we need to
fall back to using timestamps by setting the max_vblank_count to zero.
This can be done on a per-CRTC basis, so the convert mdp5 to use
drm_crtc_set_max_vblank_count().
This change was tested on a LG Nexus 5 (hammerhead) phone.

add_display_components() calls of_platform_populate, and we depopluate
on pdev remove, but not when probe fails. So if we get a probe deferral
in one of the components, we won't depopulate the platform. This causes
the core to keep references to devices which should be destroyed, which
causes issues when those same devices try to re-initialize on the next
probe attempt.
I think this is the reason we had issues with the gmu's device-managed
resources on deferral (worked around in commit 94e3a17f33a5).

The interconnect framework is designed to provide a
standard kernel interface to control the settings of
the interconnects on a SoC.
The interconnect API uses a consumer/provider-based model,
where the providers are the interconnect buses and the
consumers could be various drivers.
MDSS is one of the interconnect consumers which uses the
interconnect APIs to get the path between endpoints and
set its bandwidth requirement for the given interconnected

The GPU specific pm_suspend code assumes that the hardware is active
when the function is called, which it usually is when called as part
of pm_runtime. But during unbind, the pm_suspend functions are called
blindly resulting in a bit of a when the hardware wasn't already
active (or booted, in the case of the GMU).
Instead of calling the pm_suspend function directly, use
pm_runtime_force_suspend() which should check the correct state of
runtime and call the functions on our behalf or skip them if they are
not needed.

The gmu driver is initialized and cleaned up with calls from the gpu driver. As
such, the platform device stays valid after a6xx_gmu_remove is called and the
device managed resources are not freed. In the case of gpu probe failures or
unbind, these resources will remain managed.
If the gpu bind is run again (eg: if there's a probe defer somewhere in msm),
these resources will be initialized again for the same device, creating multiple
references. In the case of irqs, this causes failures since the irqs are
not shared (nor should they be).

The driver checks for gmu->mmio as a sign that the device has been
initialized, however there are failures in probe below the mmio init.
If one of those is hit, mmio will be non-null but freed.
In that case, a6xx_gmu_probe will return an error to a6xx_gpu_init which
will in turn call a6xx_gmu_remove which checks gmu->mmio and tries to free
resources for a second time. This causes a great boom.
Fix this by adding an initialized member to gmu which is set on
successful probe and cleared on removal.

So far, the drm_format_plane_cpp function was operating on the format's
fourcc and was doing a lookup to retrieve the drm_format_info structure and
return the cpp.
However, this is inefficient since in most cases, we will have the
drm_format_info pointer already available so we shouldn't have to perform a
new lookup. Some drm_fourcc functions also already operate on the
drm_format_info pointer for that reason, so the API is quite inconsistent
there.
Let's follow the latter pattern and remove the extra lookup while being a
bit more consistent. In order to be extra consistent, also rename that
function to drm_format_info_plane_cpp and to a static function in the
header to match the current policy.

drm_format_horz_chroma_subsampling and drm_format_vert_chroma_subsampling
are basically a lookup in the drm_format_info table plus an access to the
hsub and vsub fields of the appropriate entry.
Most drivers are using this function while having access to the entry
already, which means that we will perform an unnecessary lookup. Removing
the call to these functions is therefore more efficient.
Some drivers will not have access to that entry in the function, but in
this case the overhead is minimal (we just have to call drm_format_info()
to perform the lookup) and we can even avoid multiple, inefficient lookups
in some places that need multiple fields from the drm_format_info
structure.
This is amplified by the fact that most of the time the callers will have
to retrieve both the vsub and hsub fields, meaning that they would perform
twice the lookup.

dev_pm_domain_attach_by_name() can return NULL, so we should check for
that case when we're about to dereference gxpd.

Since commit dccd2304cc ("ARM: 7430/1: sizes.h: move from asm-generic
to <linux/sizes.h>"), <asm/sizes.h> and <asm-generic/sizes.h> are just
wrappers of <linux/sizes.h>.
This commit replaces all <asm/sizes.h> and <asm-generic/sizes.h> to
prepare for the removal.

msm_gem_describe() would attempt to dereference a NULL pointer via the

The msm_gem_object structure contains resv and _resv fields that are
no longer needed since the reservation object is now stored on
drm_gem_object. msm_atomic_prepare_fb() and msm_atomic_prepare_fb()
both referenced the wrong reservation object, and would lead to an
attempt to dereference a NULL pointer. Correct those two cases to
point to the correct reservation object.

Depending on platform firmware, a zap shader may not be required to take
the GPU out of secure mode on boot, in which case we can just write
RBBM_SECVID_TRUST_CNTL directly. Which we *mostly* handled, but missed
clearing 'ret' resulting that hw_init() returned an error on these
devices.

Currently, the Kbuild core manipulates header search paths in a crazy
way [1].
To fix this mess, I want all Makefiles to add explicit $(srctree)/ to
the search paths in the srctree. Some Makefiles are already written in
that way, but not all. The goal of this work is to make the notation
consistent, and finally get rid of the gross hacks.
Having whitespaces after -I does not matter since commit 48f6e3cf5b
("kbuild: do not drop -I without parameter").

The a6xx GPU powers on in secure mode which restricts what memory it can
write to. To get out of secure mode the GPU driver can write to
REG_A6XX_RBBM_SECVID_TRUST_CNTL but on targets that are "secure" that
register region is blocked and writes will cause the system to go down.
For those targets we need to execute a special sequence that involves
loadinga special shader that clears the GPU registers and use a PM4
sequence to pull the GPU out of secure. Add support for loading the zap
shader and executing the secure sequence. For targets that do not support
SCM or the specific SCM sequence this should fail and we would fall back
to writing the register.

First loop does copy_from_user() without the table lock held and
just stores the handle. Second loop looks up buffer objects with the
table_lock held without potentially blocking or faulting. This lets us
clean up a bunch of custom, non-faulting copy_from_user() code.
