bda850cd21 PKCS#7: Make trust determination dependent on contents of trust keyring
Make the determination of the trustworthiness of a key dependent on whether
a key that can verify it is present in the supplied ring of trusted keys
rather than whether or not the verifying key has KEY_FLAG_TRUSTED set.

verify_pkcs7_signature() will return -ENOKEY if the PKCS#7 message trust
chain cannot be verified.

e68503bd68 KEYS: Generalise system_verify_data() to provide access to internal content
Generalise system_verify_data() to provide access to internal content
through a callback. This allows all the PKCS#7 stuff to be hidden inside
this function and removed from the PE file parser and the PKCS#7 test key.

If external content is not required, NULL should be passed as data to the
function. If the callback is not required, that can be set to NULL.

The function is now called verify_pkcs7_signature() to contrast with
verify_pefile_signature() and the definitions of both have been moved into
linux/verification.h along with the key_being_used_for enum.

ad3043fda3 X.509: Fix self-signed determination
There's a bug in the code determining whether a certificate is self-signed
or not: if they have neither AKID nor SKID then we just assume that the
cert is self-signed, which may not be true.

Fix this by checking that the raw subject name matches the raw issuer name
and that the public key algorithm for the key and signature are both the
same in addition to requiring that the AKID bits match.

6c2dc5ae4a X.509: Extract signature digest and make self-signed cert checks earlier
Extract the signature digest for an X.509 certificate earlier, at the end
of x509_cert_parse() rather than leaving it to the callers thereof since it
has to be called anyway.

Further, immediately after that, check the signature on self-signed
certificates, also rather in the callers of x509_cert_parse().

We note in the x509_certificate struct the following bits of information:

 (1) Whether the signature is self-signed (even if we can't check the
     signature due to missing crypto).

 (2) Whether the key held in the certificate needs unsupported crypto to be
used. We may get a PKCS#7 message with X.509 certs that we can't make
use of - we just ignore them and give ENOPKG at the end it we couldn't
verify anything if at least one of these unusable certs are in the
     chain of trust.

 (3) Whether the signature held in the certificate needs unsupported crypto
to be checked. We can still use the key held in this certificate,
even if we can't check the signature on it - if it is held in the
system trusted keyring, for instance. We just can't add it to a ring
of trusted keys or follow it further up the chain of trust.

Making these checks earlier allows x509_check_signature() to be removed and
replaced with direct calls to public_key_verify_signature().

566a117a8b PKCS#7: Make the signature a pointer rather than embedding it
Point to the public_key_signature struct from the pkcs7_signed_info struct
rather than embedding it. This makes the code consistent with the X.509
signature handling and makes it possible to have a common cleanup function.

We also save a copy of the digest in the signature without sharing the
memory with the crypto layer metadata.

Retain the key verification data (ie. the struct public_key_signature)

Note that this means that we need to take a separate copy of the digest in

Despite what the DocBook comment to pkcs7_validate_trust() says, the
*_trusted argument is never set to false.

pkcs7_validate_trust() only positively sets *_trusted upon encountering
a trusted PKCS#7 SignedInfo block.

This is quite unfortunate since its callers, system_verify_data() for
example, depend on pkcs7_validate_trust() clearing *_trusted on non-trust.

Indeed, UBSAN splats when attempting to load the uninitialized local
variable 'trusted' from system_verify_data() in pkcs7_validate_trust():

d43de6c780 akcipher: Move the RSA DER encoding check to the crypto layer
Move the RSA EMSA-PKCS1-v1_5 encoding from the asymmetric-key public_key
subtype to the rsa crypto module's pkcs1pad template. This means that the
public_key subtype no longer has any dependencies on public key type.

To make this work, the following changes have been made:

 (1) The rsa pkcs1pad template is now used for RSA keys. This strips off the
padding and returns just the message hash.

 (2) In a previous patch, the pkcs1pad template gained an optional second
parameter that, if given, specifies the hash used. We now give this,
and pkcs1pad checks the encoded message E(M) for the EMSA-PKCS1-v1_5
encoding and verifies that the correct digest OID is present.

 (3) The crypto driver in crypto/asymmetric_keys/rsa.c is now reduced to
something that doesn't care about what the encryption actually does
and and has been merged into public_key.c.

 (4) CONFIG_PUBLIC_KEY_ALGO_RSA is gone. Module signing must set
     CONFIG_CRYPTO_RSA=y instead.

Thoughts:

(*) Should the encoding style (eg. raw, EMSA-PKCS1-v1_5) also be passed to
the padding template? Should there be multiple padding templates
registered that share most of the code?

7650cb80e4 X.509: Handle midnight alternative notation in GeneralizedTime
The ASN.1 GeneralizedTime object carries an ISO 8601 format date and time.
The time is permitted to show midnight as 00:00 or 24:00 (the latter being
equivalent of 00:00 of the following day).

The permitted value is checked in x509_decode_time() but the actual
handling is left to mktime64().

Without this patch, certain X.509 certificates will be rejected and could
lead to an unbootable kernel.

Note that with this patch we also permit any 24:mm:ss time and extend this
to UTCTime, which whilst not strictly correct don't permit much leeway in
fiddling date strings.

da02559c9f X.509: Support leap seconds
The format of ASN.1 GeneralizedTime seems to be specified by ISO 8601
[X.680 46.3] and this apparently supports leap seconds (ie. the seconds
field is 60). It's not entirely clear that ASN.1 expects it, but we can
relax the seconds check slightly for GeneralizedTime.

This results in us passing a time with sec as 60 to mktime64(), which
handles it as being a duplicate of the 0th second of the next minute.

We can't really do otherwise without giving the kernel much greater
knowledge of where all the leap seconds are. Unfortunately, this would
require change the mapping of the kernel's current-time-in-seconds.

UTCTime, however, only supports a seconds value in the range 00-59, but for
the sake of simplicity allow this with UTCTime also.

Without this patch, certain X.509 certificates will be rejected,
potentially making a kernel unbootable.

ac4cbedfdf X.509: Fix leap year handling again
There are still a couple of minor issues in the X.509 leap year handling:

 (1) To avoid doing a modulus-by-400 in addition to a modulus-by-100 when
determining whether the year is a leap year or not, I divided the year
by 100 after doing the modulus-by-100, thereby letting the compiler do
one instruction for both, and then did a modulus-by-4.

Unfortunately, I then passed the now-modified year value to mktime64()
     to construct a time value.

Since this isn't a fast path and since mktime64() does a bunch of
divisions, just condense down to "% 400". It's also easier to read.

 (2) The default month length for any February where the year doesn't
divide by four exactly is obtained from the month_length[] array where
the value is 29, not 28.

This is fixed by altering the table.

And right he is! The Authenticode specification is a paragon amongst
technical documents, and has this pearl of wisdom to offer:

---------------------------------
Authenticode-Specific SignerInfo UnauthenticatedAttributes Structures

The following Authenticode-specific data structures are present in
  SignerInfo authenticated attributes.

  SpcSpOpusInfo
  SpcSpOpusInfo is identified by SPC_SP_OPUS_INFO_OBJID
(1.3.6.1.4.1.311.2.1.12) and is defined as follows:
  SpcSpOpusInfo ::= SEQUENCE {
    programName [0] EXPLICIT SpcString OPTIONAL,
    moreInfo [1] EXPLICIT SpcLink OPTIONAL,
  } --#public--

  SpcSpOpusInfo has two fields:
    programName
This field contains the program description:
If publisher chooses not to specify a description, the SpcString
structure contains a zero-length program name.
If the publisher chooses to specify a
description, the SpcString structure contains a Unicode string.
    moreInfo
This field is set to an SPCLink structure that contains a URL for
a Web site with more information about the signer. The URL is an
      ASCII string.
---------------------------------

Which is to say that this is an optional *unauthenticated* field which
may be present in the Authenticated Attribute list. This is not how
pkcs7 is supposed to work, so when David implemented this, he didn't
appreciate the subtlety the original spec author was working with, and
missed the part of the sublime prose that says this Authenticated
Attribute is an Unauthenticated Attribute. As a result, the code in
question simply takes as given that the Authenticated Attributes should
be authenticated.

But this one should not, individually. Because it says it's not
authenticated.

It still has to hash right so the TBS digest is correct. So it is both
authenticated and unauthenticated, all at once. Truly, a wonder of
technical accomplishment.

Additionally, pesign's implementation has always attempted to be
compatible with the signatures emitted from contemporary versions of
Microsoft's signtool.exe. During the initial implementation, Microsoft
signatures always produced the same values for SpcSpOpusInfo -
{U"Microsoft Windows", "http://www.microsoft.com"} - without regard to
who the signer was.

Sometime between Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 they stopped including the
field in their signatures altogether, and as such pesign stopped
producing them in commits c0c4da6 and d79cb0c, sometime around June of
2012. The theory here is that anything that breaks with
pesign signatures would also be breaking with signtool.exe sigs as well,
and that'll be a more noticed problem for firmwares parsing it, so it'll
get fixed. The fact that we've done exactly this bug in Linux code is
first class, grade A irony.

So anyway, we should not be checking this field for presence or any
particular value: if the field exists, it should be at the right place,
but aside from that, as long as the hash matches the field is good.

41c89b64d7 IMA: create machine owner and blacklist keyrings
This option creates IMA MOK and blacklist keyrings. IMA MOK is an
intermediate keyring that sits between .system and .ima keyrings,
effectively forming a simple CA hierarchy. To successfully import a key
into .ima_mok it must be signed by a key which CA is in .system keyring.
On turn any key that needs to go in .ima keyring must be signed by CA in
either .system or .ima_mok keyrings. IMA MOK is empty at kernel boot.

IMA blacklist keyring contains all revoked IMA keys. It is consulted
before any other keyring. If the search is successful the requested
operation is rejected and error is returned to the caller.

62f57d05e2 crypto: pkcs7 - Fix unaligned access in pkcs7_verify()
On sparc, we see unaligned access messages on each modprobe[-r]:

Kernel unaligned access at TPC[6ad9b4] pkcs7_verify [..]
Kernel unaligned access at TPC[6a5484] crypto_shash_finup [..]
Kernel unaligned access at TPC[6a5390] crypto_shash_update [..]
Kernel unaligned access at TPC[10150308] sha1_sparc64_update [..]
Kernel unaligned access at TPC[101501ac] __sha1_sparc64_update [..]

These ware triggered by mod_verify_sig() invocations of pkcs_verify(), and
are are being caused by an unaligned desc at (sha1, digest_size is 0x14)
        desc = digest + digest_size;

To fix this, pkcs7_verify needs to make sure that desc is pointing
at an aligned value past the digest_size, and kzalloc appropriately,
taking alignment values into consideration.

e7c87bef7d X.509: Don't strip leading 00's from key ID when constructing key description
Don't strip leading zeros from the crypto key ID when using it to construct
the struct key description as the signature in kernels up to and including
4.2 matched this aspect of the key. This means that 1 in 256 keys won't
actually match if their key ID begins with 00.

The key ID is stored in the module signature as binary and so must be
converted to text in order to invoke request_key() - but it isn't stripped
at this point.

Something like this is likely to be observed in dmesg when the key is loaded:

[ 1.572423] Loaded X.509 cert 'Build time autogenerated kernel
    key: 62a7c3d2da278be024da4af8652c071f3fea33'

followed by this when we try and use it:

[ 1.646153] Request for unknown module key 'Build time autogenerated
    kernel key: 0062a7c3d2da278be024da4af8652c071f3fea33' err -11

The 'Loaded' line should show an extra '00' on the front of the hex string.

This problem should not affect 4.3-rc1 and onwards because there the key
should be matched on one of its auxiliary identities rather than the key
struct's description string.

99db443506 PKCS#7: Appropriately restrict authenticated attributes and content type
A PKCS#7 or CMS message can have per-signature authenticated attributes
that are digested as a lump and signed by the authorising key for that
signature. If such attributes exist, the content digest isn't itself
signed, but rather it is included in a special authattr which then
contributes to the signature.

Further, we already require the master message content type to be
pkcs7_signedData - but there's also a separate content type for the data
itself within the SignedData object and this must be repeated inside the
authattrs for each signer [RFC2315 9.2, RFC5652 11.1].

We should really validate the authattrs if they exist or forbid them
entirely as appropriate. To this end:

 (1) Alter the PKCS#7 parser to reject any message that has more than one
signature where at least one signature has authattrs and at least one
     that does not.

 (2) Validate authattrs if they are present and strongly restrict them.
Only the following authattrs are permitted and all others are
     rejected:

     (a) contentType. This is checked to be an OID that matches the
content type in the SignedData object.

     (b) messageDigest. This must match the crypto digest of the data.

     (c) signingTime. If present, we check that this is a valid, parseable
UTCTime or GeneralTime and that the date it encodes fits within
the validity window of the matching X.509 cert.

     (d) S/MIME capabilities. We don't check the contents.

     (e) Authenticode SP Opus Info. We don't check the contents.

     (f) Authenticode Statement Type. We don't check the contents.

The message is rejected if (a) or (b) are missing. If the message is
an Authenticode type, the message is rejected if (e) is missing; if
not Authenticode, the message is rejected if (d) - (f) are present.

The S/MIME capabilities authattr (d) unfortunately has to be allowed
to support kernels already signed by the pesign program. This only
affects kexec. sign-file suppresses them (CMS_NOSMIMECAP).

The message is also rejected if an authattr is given more than once or
if it contains more than one element in its set of values.

 (3) Add a parameter to pkcs7_verify() to select one of the following
restrictions and pass in the appropriate option from the callers:

     (*) VERIFYING_MODULE_SIGNATURE

This requires that the SignedData content type be pkcs7-data and
forbids authattrs. sign-file sets CMS_NOATTR. We could be more
flexible and permit authattrs optionally, but only permit minimal
	 content.

     (*) VERIFYING_FIRMWARE_SIGNATURE

This requires that the SignedData content type be pkcs7-data and
requires authattrs. In future, this will require an attribute
holding the target firmware name in addition to the minimal set.

     (*) VERIFYING_UNSPECIFIED_SIGNATURE

This requires that the SignedData content type be pkcs7-data but
allows either no authattrs or only permits the minimal set.

     (*) VERIFYING_KEXEC_PE_SIGNATURE

This only supports the Authenticode SPC_INDIRECT_DATA content type
and requires at least an SpcSpOpusInfo authattr in addition to the
minimal set. It also permits an SPC_STATEMENT_TYPE authattr (and
an S/MIME capabilities authattr because the pesign program doesn't
	 remove these).

     (*) VERIFYING_KEY_SIGNATURE
     (*) VERIFYING_KEY_SELF_SIGNATURE

These are invalid in this context but are included for later use
when limiting the use of X.509 certs.

 (4) The pkcs7_test key type is given a module parameter to select between
the above options for testing purposes. For example:

	echo 1 >/sys/module/pkcs7_test_key/parameters/usage
	keyctl padd pkcs7_test foo @s </tmp/stuff.pkcs7

will attempt to check the signature on stuff.pkcs7 as if it contains a
     firmware blob (1 being VERIFYING_FIRMWARE_SIGNATURE).

a4c6e57f4f X.509: Change recorded SKID & AKID to not include Subject or Issuer
The key identifiers fabricated from an X.509 certificate are currently:

 (A) Concatenation of serial number and issuer

 (B) Concatenation of subject and subjectKeyID (SKID)

When verifying one X.509 certificate with another, the AKID in the target
can be used to match the authoritative certificate. The AKID can specify
the match in one or both of two ways:

 (1) Compare authorityCertSerialNumber and authorityCertIssuer from the AKID
     to identifier (A) above.

 (2) Compare keyIdentifier from the AKID plus the issuer from the target
     certificate to identifier (B) above.

When verifying a PKCS#7 message, the only available comparison is between
the IssuerAndSerialNumber field and identifier (A) above.

However, a subsequent patch adds CMS support. Whilst CMS still supports a
match on IssuerAndSerialNumber as for PKCS#7, it also supports an
alternative - which is the SubjectKeyIdentifier field. This is used to
match to an X.509 certificate on the SKID alone. No subject information is
available to be used.

To this end change the fabrication of (B) above to be from the X.509 SKID
alone. The AKID in keyIdentifier form then only matches on that and does
not include the issuer.

4573b64a31 X.509: Support X.509 lookup by Issuer+Serial form AuthorityKeyIdentifier
If an X.509 certificate has an AuthorityKeyIdentifier extension that provides

to the keyIdentifier field also held therein for searching for the signing
certificate.

If both the issuer+serialNumber and the keyIdentifier are supplied, then the

the latter doesn't match the subjectKeyIdentifier of the parent certificate,

This makes it possible to chain X.509 certificates based on the issuer and

Pull security subsystem updates from James Morris:
"The main change in this kernel is Casey's generalized LSM stacking
work, which removes the hard-coding of Capabilities and Yama stacking,
allowing multiple arbitrary "small" LSMs to be stacked with a default
monolithic module (e.g. SELinux, Smack, AppArmor).

  See
        https://lwn.net/Articles/636056/

This will allow smaller, simpler LSMs to be incorporated into the
mainline kernel and arbitrarily stacked by users. Also, this is a
useful cleanup of the LSM code in its own right"

f2b3dee484 KEYS: fix "ca_keys=" partial key matching
The call to asymmetric_key_hex_to_key_id() from ca_keys_setup()
silently fails with -ENOMEM. Instead of dynamically allocating
memory from a __setup function, this patch defines a variable
and calls __asymmetric_key_hex_to_key_id(), a new helper function,
directly.

This bug was introduced by 'commit 46963b774d ("KEYS: Overhaul
key identification when searching for asymmetric keys")'.

Changelog:
- for clarification, rename hexlen to asciihexlen in
  asymmetric_key_hex_to_key_id()
- add size argument to __asymmetric_key_hex_to_key_id() - David Howells
- inline __asymmetric_key_hex_to_key_id() - David Howells

d1ac554045 KEYS: Check hex2bin()'s return when generating an asymmetric key ID
As it stands, the code to generate an asymmetric key ID prechecks the hex
string it is given whilst determining the length, before it allocates the
buffer for hex2bin() to translate into - which mean that checking the result of
hex2bin() is redundant.

Unfortunately, hex2bin() is marked as __must_check, which means that the
following warning may be generated if the return value isn't checked:

	crypto/asymmetric_keys/asymmetric_type.c: In function
	asymmetric_key_hex_to_key_id:
	crypto/asymmetric_keys/asymmetric_type.c:110: warning: ignoring return
value of hex2bin, declared with attribute warn_unused_result

The warning can't be avoided by casting the result to void.

Instead, use strlen() to check the length of the string and ignore the fact
that the string might not be entirely valid hex until after the allocation has
been done - in which case we can use the result of hex2bin() for this.

757932e6da PKCS#7: Handle PKCS#7 messages that contain no X.509 certs
The X.509 certificate list in a PKCS#7 message is optional. To save space, we
can omit the inclusion of any X.509 certificates if we are sure that we can
look the relevant public key up by the serial number and issuer given in a

This also supports use of a signed info block for which we can't find a

4155942000 PKCS#7: Better handling of unsupported crypto
Provide better handling of unsupported crypto when verifying a PKCS#7 message.
If we can't bridge the gap between a pair of X.509 certs or between a signed
info block and an X.509 cert because it involves some crypto we don't support,
that's not necessarily the end of the world as there may be other ways points
at which we can intersect with a ring of trusted keys.

Instead, only produce ENOPKG immediately if all the signed info blocks in a
PKCS#7 message require unsupported crypto to bridge to the first X.509 cert.
Otherwise, we defer the generation of ENOPKG until we get ENOKEY during trust
validation.

46963b774d KEYS: Overhaul key identification when searching for asymmetric keys
Make use of the new match string preparsing to overhaul key identification
when searching for asymmetric keys. The following changes are made:

 (1) Use the previously created asymmetric_key_id struct to hold the following
key IDs derived from the X.509 certificate or PKCS#7 message:

	id: serial number + issuer
	skid: subjKeyId + subject
	authority: authKeyId + issuer

 (2) Replace the hex fingerprint attached to key->type_data[1] with an
asymmetric_key_ids struct containing the id and the skid (if present).

 (3) Make the asymmetric_type match data preparse select one of two searches:

     (a) An iterative search for the key ID given if prefixed with "id:". The
prefix is expected to be followed by a hex string giving the ID to
search for. The criterion key ID is checked against all key IDs
     	 recorded on the key.

     (b) A direct search if the key ID is not prefixed with "id:". This will
look for an exact match on the key description.

 (4) Make x509_request_asymmetric_key() take a key ID. This is then converted
into "id:<hex>" and passed into keyring_search() where match preparsing
will turn it back into a binary ID.

 (5) X.509 certificate verification then takes the authority key ID and looks
up a key that matches it to find the public key for the certificate
     signature.

 (6) PKCS#7 certificate verification then takes the id key ID and looks up a
key that matches it to find the public key for the signed information
     block signature.

Additional changes:

 (1) Multiple subjKeyId and authKeyId values on an X.509 certificate cause the
cert to be rejected with -EBADMSG.

 (2) The 'fingerprint' ID is gone. This was primarily intended to convey PGP
public key fingerprints. If PGP is supported in future, this should
generate a key ID that carries the fingerprint.

 (3) Th ca_keyid= kernel command line option is now converted to a key ID and
used to match the authority key ID. Possibly this should only match the
actual authKeyId part and not the issuer as well.

7901c1a8ef KEYS: Implement binary asymmetric key ID handling
Implement the first step in using binary key IDs for asymmetric keys rather
than hex string keys.

The previously added match data preparsing will be able to convert hex
criterion strings into binary which can then be compared more rapidly.

Further, we actually want more then one ID string per public key. The problem
is that X.509 certs refer to other X.509 certs by matching Issuer + AuthKeyId
to Subject + SubjKeyId, but PKCS#7 messages match against X.509 Issuer +
SerialNumber.

This patch just provides facilities for a later patch to make use of.

A previous patch added a ->match_preparse() method to the key type. This is
allowed to override the function called by the iteration algorithm.
Therefore, we can just set a default that simply checks for an exact match of
the key description with the original criterion data and allow match_preparse
to override it as needed.

The key_type::match op is then redundant and can be removed, as can the

0aa0409401 PEFILE: Relax the check on the length of the PKCS#7 cert
Relax the check on the length of the PKCS#7 cert as it appears that the PE
file wrapper size gets rounded up to the nearest 8.

The debugging output looks like this:

	PEFILE: ==> verify_pefile_signature()
	PEFILE: ==> pefile_parse_binary()
	PEFILE: checksum @ 110
	PEFILE: header size = 200
	PEFILE: cert = 968 @547be0 [68 09 00 00 00 02 02 00 30 82 09 56 ]
	PEFILE: sig wrapper = { 968, 200, 2 }
	PEFILE: Signature data not PKCS#7

The wrapper is the first 8 bytes of the hex dump inside []. This indicates a
length of 0x968 bytes, including the wrapper header - so 0x960 bytes of
payload.

The ASN.1 wrapper begins [ ... 30 82 09 56 ]. That indicates an object of size
0x956 - a four byte discrepency, presumably just padding for alignment
purposes.

So we just check that the ASN.1 container is no bigger than the payload and
reduce the recorded size appropriately.

Whilst we're at it, allow shorter PKCS#7 objects that manage to squeeze within
127 or 255 bytes. It's just about conceivable if no X.509 certs are included
in the PKCS#7 message.

Here's a set of changes that implement a PKCS#7 message parser in the kernel.

The PKCS#7 message parsing will then be used to limit kexec to authenticated
kernels only if so configured.

The changes provide the following facilities:

 (1) Parse an ASN.1 PKCS#7 message and pick out useful bits such as the data
content and the X.509 certificates used to sign it and all the data
     signatures.

 (2) Verify all the data signatures against the set of X.509 certificates
     available in the message.

 (3) Follow the certificate chains and verify that:

     (a) for every self-signed X.509 certificate, check that it validly signed
     	 itself, and:

     (b) for every non-self-signed certificate, if we have a 'parent'
certificate, the former is validly signed by the latter.

 (4) Look for intersections between the certificate chains and the trusted
keyring, if any intersections are found, verify that the trusted
certificates signed the intersection point in the chain.

 (5) For testing purposes, a key type can be made available that will take a
PKCS#7 message, check that the message is trustworthy, and if so, add its
     data content into the key.

Note that (5) has to be altered to take account of the preparsing patches
already committed to this branch.

then stripped off. If successful, the key can be read, which will give the
data content of the PKCS#7 message.

A suitable message can be created by running make on the attached Makefile.
This will produce a file called stuff.pkcs7 for test loading. The key3.x509
file should be put into the kernel source tree before it is built and
converted to DER form:

6bf37e5aa9 crypto: crypto_memneq - add equality testing of memory regions w/o timing leaks
When comparing MAC hashes, AEAD authentication tags, or other hash
values in the context of authentication or integrity checking, it
is important not to leak timing information to a potential attacker,
i.e. when communication happens over a network.

Bytewise memory comparisons (such as memcmp) are usually optimized so
that they return a nonzero value as soon as a mismatch is found. E.g,
on x86_64/i5 for 512 bytes this can be ~50 cyc for a full mismatch
and up to ~850 cyc for a full match (cold). This early-return behavior
can leak timing information as a side channel, allowing an attacker to
iteratively guess the correct result.

This patch adds a new method crypto_memneq ("memory not equal to each
other") to the crypto API that compares memory areas of the same length
in roughly "constant time" (cache misses could change the timing, but
since they don't reveal information about the content of the strings
being compared, they are effectively benign). Iow, best and worst case
behaviour take the same amount of time to complete (in contrast to
memcmp).

Note that crypto_memneq (unlike memcmp) can only be used to test for
equality or inequality, NOT for lexicographical order. This, however,
is not an issue for its use-cases within the crypto API.

We tried to locate all of the places in the crypto API where memcmp was
being used for authentication or integrity checking, and convert them
over to crypto_memneq.

crypto_memneq is declared noinline, placed in its own source file,
and compiled with optimizations that might increase code size disabled
("Os") because a smart compiler (or LTO) might notice that the return
value is always compared against zero/nonzero, and might then
reintroduce the same early-return optimization that we are trying to
avoid.

Using #pragma or __attribute__ optimization annotations of the code
for disabling optimization was avoided as it seems to be considered
broken or unmaintained for long time in GCC [1]. Therefore, we work
around that by specifying the compile flag for memneq.o directly in
the Makefile. We found that this seems to be most appropriate.

As we use ("Os"), this patch also provides a loop-free "fast-path" for
frequently used 16 byte digests. Similarly to kernel library string
functions, leave an option for future even further optimized architecture
specific assembler implementations.

This was a joint work of James Yonan and Daniel Borkmann. Also thanks
for feedback from Florian Weimer on this and earlier proposals [2].

cd0421dcd0 KEYS: Set the asymmetric-key type default search method
The keyring expansion patches introduces a new search method by which
key_search() attempts to walk directly to the key that has exactly the same
description as the requested one.

However, this causes inexact matching of asymmetric keys to fail. The
solution to this is to select iterative rather than direct search as the
default search type for asymmetric keys.

As an example, the kernel might have a key like this:

	Magrathea: Glacier signing key: 6a2a0f82bad7e396665f465e4e3e1f9bd24b1226

and:

	keyctl search <keyring-ID> asymmetric id:d24b1226

should find the key, despite that not being its exact description.

206ce59a10 KEYS: Move the algorithm pointer array from x509 to public_key.c
Move the public-key algorithm pointer array from x509_public_key.c to
public_key.c as it isn't X.509 specific.

Note that to make this configure correctly, the public key part must be
dependent on the RSA module rather than the other way round. This needs a
further patch to make use of the crypto module loading stuff rather than using
a fixed table.

04b00bdb41 X.509: Support parse long form of length octets in Authority Key Identifier
Per X.509 spec in 4.2.1.1 section, the structure of Authority Key
Identifier Extension is:

   AuthorityKeyIdentifier ::= SEQUENCE {
      keyIdentifier [0] KeyIdentifier OPTIONAL,
      authorityCertIssuer [1] GeneralNames OPTIONAL,
      authorityCertSerialNumber [2] CertificateSerialNumber OPTIONAL  }

   KeyIdentifier ::= OCTET STRING

When a certificate also provides
authorityCertIssuer and authorityCertSerialNumber then the length of
AuthorityKeyIdentifier SEQUENCE is likely to long form format.
e.g.
The example certificate demos/tunala/A-server.pem in openssl source:

X509v3 Authority Key Identifier:
    keyid:49:FB:45:72:12:C4:CC:E1:45:A1:D3:08:9E:95:C4:2C:6D:55:3F:17
    DirName:/C=NZ/L=Wellington/O=Really Irresponsible Authorisation Authority (RIAA)/OU=Cert-stamping/CN=Jackov al-Trades/emailAddress=none@fake.domain
    serial:00

Current parsing rule of OID_authorityKeyIdentifier only take care the
short form format, it causes load certificate to modsign_keyring fail:

[ 12.061147] X.509: Extension: 47
[ 12.075121] MODSIGN: Problem loading in-kernel X.509 certificate (-74)

So, this patch add the parsing rule for support long form format against
Authority Key Identifier.

v3:
Changed the size check in "Short Form length" case, we allow v[3] smaller
then (vlen - 4) because authorityCertIssuer and authorityCertSerialNumber
are also possible attach in AuthorityKeyIdentifier sequence.

v2:
 - Removed comma from author's name.
 - Moved 'Short Form length' comment inside the if-body.
 - Changed the type of sub to size_t.
 - Use ASN1_INDEFINITE_LENGTH rather than writing 0x80 and 127.
 - Moved the key_len's value assignment before alter v.
 - Fixed the typo of octets.
 - Add 2 to v before entering the loop for calculate the length.
 - Removed the comment of check vlen.

a5752d11b3 MODSIGN: Fix 32-bit overflow in X.509 certificate validity date checking
The current choice of lifetime for the autogenerated X.509 of 100 years,
putting the validTo date in 2112, causes problems on 32-bit systems where a
32-bit time_t wraps in 2106. 64-bit x86_64 systems seem to be unaffected.

This can result in something like:

	Loading module verification certificates
	X.509: Cert 6e03943da0f3b015ba6ed7f5e0cac4fe48680994 has expired
	MODSIGN: Problem loading in-kernel X.509 certificate (-127)

Or:

X.509: Cert 6e03943da0f3b015ba6ed7f5e0cac4fe48680994 is not yet valid
	MODSIGN: Problem loading in-kernel X.509 certificate (-129)

Instead of turning the dates into time_t values and comparing, turn the system
clock and the ASN.1 dates into tm structs and compare those piecemeal instead.

c26fd69fa0 X.509: Add a crypto key parser for binary (DER) X.509 certificates
Add a crypto key parser for binary (DER) encoded X.509 certificates. The
certificate is parsed and, if possible, the signature is verified.

An X.509 key can be added like this:

	# keyctl padd crypto bar @s </tmp/x509.cert
	15768135

and displayed like this:

	# cat /proc/keys
	00f09a47 I--Q--- 1 perm 39390000 0 0 asymmetri bar: X509.RSA e9fd6d08 []

Note that this only works with binary certificates. PEM encoded certificates
are ignored by the parser.

Note also that the X.509 key ID is not congruent with the PGP key ID, but for
the moment, they will match.

If a NULL or "" name is given to add_key(), then the parser will generate a key
description from the CertificateSerialNumber and Name fields of the
TBSCertificate:

	00aefc4e I--Q--- 1 perm 39390000 0 0 asymmetri bfbc0cd76d050ea4:/C=GB/L=Cambridge/O=Red Hat/CN=kernel key: X509.RSA 0c688c7b []

0b1568a453 RSA: Fix signature verification for shorter signatures
gpg can produce a signature file where length of signature is less than the
modulus size because the amount of space an MPI takes up is kept as low as

modules during the build.

4ae71c1dce KEYS: Provide signature verification with an asymmetric key
Provide signature verification using an asymmetric-type key to indicate the
public key to be used.

The API is a single function that can be found in crypto/public_key.h:

	int verify_signature(const struct key *key,
			     const struct public_key_signature *sig)

The first argument is the appropriate key to be used and the second argument
is the parsed signature data:

	struct public_key_signature {
		u8 *digest;
		u16 digest_size;
		enum pkey_hash_algo pkey_hash_algo : 8;
		union {
			MPI mpi[2];
			struct {
				MPI s; /* m^d mod n */
			} rsa;
			struct {
				MPI r;
				MPI s;
			} dsa;
		};
	};

This should be filled in prior to calling the function. The hash algorithm
should already have been called and the hash finalised and the output should
be in a buffer pointed to by the 'digest' member.

Any extra data to be added to the hash by the hash format (eg. PGP) should
have been added by the caller prior to finalising the hash.

It is assumed that the signature is made up of a number of MPI values. If an
algorithm becomes available for which this is not the case, the above structure
will have to change.

It is also assumed that it will have been checked that the signature algorithm
matches the key algorithm.

46c6f1776e KEYS: Asymmetric key pluggable data parsers
The instantiation data passed to the asymmetric key type are expected to be
formatted in some way, and there are several possible standard ways to format
the data.

The two obvious standards are OpenPGP keys and X.509 certificates. The latter
is especially useful when dealing with UEFI, and the former might be useful
when dealing with, say, eCryptfs.

Further, it might be desirable to provide formatted blobs that indicate
hardware is to be accessed to retrieve the keys or that the keys live
unretrievably in a hardware store, but that the keys can be used by means of
the hardware.

From userspace, the keys can be loaded using the keyctl command, for example,
an X.509 binary certificate:

keyctl padd asymmetric foo @s <dhowells.pem

or a PGP key:

keyctl padd asymmetric bar @s <dhowells.pub

or a pointer into the contents of the TPM:

keyctl add asymmetric zebra "TPM:04982390582905f8" @s

Inside the kernel, pluggable parsers register themselves and then get to
examine the payload data to see if they can handle it. If they can, they get
to:

  (1) Propose a name for the key, to be used it the name is "" or NULL.

  (2) Specify the key subtype.

  (3) Provide the data for the subtype.

The key type asks the parser to do its stuff before a key is allocated and thus
before the name is set. If successful, the parser stores the suggested data
into the key_preparsed_payload struct, which will be either used (if the key is
successfully created and instantiated or updated) or discarded.

that "public key" is an overloaded term.
