Under certain circumstances, we can get an extra VF_RESOURCES message
from the PF driver at runtime. When this happens, we need to parse it
because our VSI may have changed out from underneath us, and that will
affect our relationship with the PF driver.
However, parsing the resources message also blows away our current MAC
address in the hardware struct, usually with all zeros. When this
happens, the next time the interface is opened, it will have no MAC
address and will a) not work and b) complain.
Fix this issue by restoring the current MAC address from the netdev
struct after we parse the resource message.

Intel Wired LAN Driver Updates 2015-09-30
This series contains updates to i40e and i40evf only.
Vasily Averin provides a couple of rtnl lock/unlock fixes for both i40e
and i40evf.
Shannon provides several updates and fixes, first fixes up a type clash
in i40e_aq_rc_to_posix(), where the error codes are signed values, so we
need to treat them as such. Then fixes up a padding issue where an
extra byte is added in i40e_aqc_get_cee_dcb_cfg_v1_resp to directly
acknowledge the padding. Updated i40e to keep debugfs register read
and writes from accessing outside of the io-remapped space. Added
support and device id for another 20 GbE device.
Jesse fixes the transmit hand workaround code for ARM that was causing
Tx hangs to still occur occasionally when there really was no hang. Then
fixed the receive dropped counter to show up in netstat interface.
Refactor the interrupt enable function since it was always making the
caller add the base_vector from the VSI struct which is already passed
to the function. Fix kbuild warnings found in 0day build infrastructure
by adding a harmless cast to a dev_info(), also fix 32 bit build
warnings found by sparse.
Greg fixed a configuration error that results if a port VLAN is set
for a VF before the VF driver is loaded, so that when the VF driver is
loaded the port VLAN is ignored.
Mitch fixes the use of QOS field consistently in
i40e_ndo_set_vf_port_vlan(). Modified the init timing of the driver
to increase stability on load/unload and SR-IOV enable/disable cycles.
Anjali updates i40e to not collect VEB stats if they are disabled in the
hardware for performance reasons.

This patch tweaks the init timing of the driver just a little bit to
increase stability on load/unload and SR-IOV enable/disable cycles.
First, run the init_task loop a little quicker in order to reduce
overall init time.
Second, stagger the start of the init task based on the device's
PCIe function ID. This lessens the impact on the firmware when a
whole bunch of VFs are initialized simultaneously, e.g. enabling
SR-IOV without the VF driver blacklisted. For single VFs assigned
to VMs this will have no effect as the function ID will always be 0.

The arm writeback (arm_wb) code is used for kicking the Tx ring to
make sure any pending work is completed even if interrupts are
disabled. It was running when it didn't need to, and not clearing
the ring->arm_wb state after it was set. This caused Tx hangs
to still occur occasionally when there really was no hang.
Fix this by resetting the variable right after it was used.

The most common type of reset that the VF will encounter is a PF reset
that cascades down into a VF reset for each VF. In this case, the VF
will always be assigned the same VSI and recovery is fairly simple.
However, in the case of 'bigger' resets, such as a Core or EMP reset,
when the device is reinitialized, it's probable that the VF will NOT get
the same VSI. When this happens, the VF will not be able to recover, as
it will continue to request resources for its original VSI.
Add an extra state to the admin queue state machine so that the driver
can re-request its configuration information at runtime. During reset
recovery, set this bit in the aq_required field, and fetch the (possibly
new) configuration information before attempting to bring the driver
back up. Since the driver doesn't know what kind of reset it has
encountered, this step is done even for a PF reset, but it doesn't hurt
anything - it just gets the same VSI back.

To prepare for the changes coming up in the X722 device and future
devices, the virtual channel interface has to change slightly. The VF
driver can now report what its capable of supporting, which then informs
the PF driver when it sends the configuration information back to the
VF.
A 1.1 VF driver on a 1.0 PF driver should not send its capabilities.
Likewise, a 1.1 PF driver controlling a 1.0 VF driver should not expect
or depend upon receiving the VF capabilities.
All other aspects of the API are unchanged.

The hardware has some limitations the driver needs to adhere to,
that we found in extended testing.
1) no more than 8 descriptors per packet on the wire
2) no header can span more than 3 descriptors
If one of these events occurs, the hardware will generate an internal
error and freeze the Tx queue.
This patch linearizes the skb to avoid these situations.

Use the advertised speed settings in get_settings in ethtool now that
we have it. Also set the requested speed settings in set_settings in

the firmware remembers as the last requested speeds.
To accommodate some longer lines in this new code, and improve
readability I have added two functions i40e_get_settings_link_up
and i40e_get_settings_link_down which get_settings now calls first.
It then does all of the settings that happen regardless of link
state. Some PHY types that supported the same settings were also combined.

Under rare circumstances, after a reset, set_rx_mode might get called
while the watchdog is running, which will cause a deadlock on the
critical section lock. To correct this, add a counter and give up trying
to get the lock after fifty tries. Log a message if this happens but
don't take any other action. Because this happens after a reset, all of
the Rx filters are still in place and the device won't lose
connectivity.
We can also get stuck during shutdown, if the PF has stopped communicating
with us, or if a reset is occurring. If we can't get the lock after a reasonable
amount of time, just error out. Something else bad is happening anyway, so
adding this filter is the least of our concern right now.

A recent change to the shutdown flow messed up the reset flow. Since
i40evf_down now holds the critical section lock, we cannot call it from
the reset handler, which also holds the lock. To do so causes a deadlock
accompanied by wailing and gnashing of teeth. This is easily triggered
by running an ethtool self-test on the PF device.
Instead, we move the relevant portions of i40evf_down into the reset
handler and bend them to our will. Additionally, we can optimize the
reinit path by not deleting the MAC and VLAN filters and then adding
them back again. Instead, we just set the 'add' flag and let the
watchdog resynchronize the filter list with the PF driver. We also
reword a few messages to make them more consistent with the rest of the
driver.

Until the time a more robust versioning scheme is needed/implemented all
established virtual channel opcode values should remain consistent between
updates to the opcode enum.
This patch repositions I40E_VIRTCHNL_OP_CONFIG_RSS to the end of the enum. In
its current position this opcode displaces the initial value of
I40E_VIRTCHNL_OP_EVENT and will cause PF/VF compatibility issues.
Going forward the expectation is either:
a) All future opcode additions will be added as the last element of the
enum. Once VF drivers start making use of the new commands the virtual
channel version will need to be incremented and drivers will need to
implement a simple version check whereby VF drivers can only load on
PFs with a >= version.
b) or, if needed, design and implement a more complicated API
negotiation capability.
In either case PF drivers should always maintain backwards compatibility with
earlier VF driver versions.

Split the receive hot path code into two, one for packet split and one
for single buffer. This improves receive performance since we only need
to check if the ring is in packet split mode once per NAPI poll time,
not several times per packet. The single buffer code is further improved
by the removal of a bunch of code and several variables that are not
needed. On a receive-oriented test this can improve single-threaded
throughput.
Also refactor the packet split receive path to use a fixed buffer for
headers, like ixgbe does. This vastly reduces the number of DMA mappings
and unmappings we need to do, allowing for much better performance in
the presence of an IOMMU.
Lastly, correct packet split descriptor types now that we are actually
using them.

When the module is being unloaded, don't wait for the PF to politely
handle all of our admin queue requests, as that might take forever with
a lot of VFs enabled. Instead, just stop everything and request a VF
reset.
When the original shutdown code was written, VF resets were unreliable,
so we avoided them. But with production hardware and firmware, and the
1.x PF driver, this is no longer the case.
This fixes a potential multi-minute delay on driver unload, VF disable,
or system shutdown.

Add parsing and reporting of iSCSI capability for a given device or
function.
Also add support for iSCSI partition type with DCB in NPAR mode.
In this mode it is expected that software would configure both the LAN
and iSCSI traffic classes for the iSCSI partition; whereas all the NIC
type partitions will use LAN TC (TC0) only.
Hence, the patch enables querying of DCB configuration in MFP mode and
configures TCs for iSCSI partition type.
Though NIC type partitions may not have more than 1 TC enabled for them
the port may have multiple TCs enabled and hence I40E_FLAG_DCB_ENABLED
will be set/reset on all the partitions based on number of TCs on the
port. This is required as in DCB environment it is expected that all
traffic will be priority tagged.

On some versions of the firmware, the VF admin send queue may become
stalled. In this case, the easiest solution is to just place another
descriptor on the queue; the firmware will then process both requests.
The early init code already accounts for this, but the runtime code does
not. In the watchdog task, check for the stall condition, and if it's
found, send our API version to the PF. When the PF replies, just ignore
the reply.

There is always a possibility that MSI-X interrupts can get lost. To
keep this problem from stalling the driver, we fire all of our MSI-X
vectors during the watchdog routine. However, we should not fire the
traffic vectors when the interface is closed. In this case, just fire
vector 0, which is used for admin queue events.
As a result, we do not enable the interrupt cause for vector 0. This
can cause the admin queue handler to be called reentrantly, which
causes a scary "critical section violation" message to be logged,
even though no real damage is done.

shutting things down. If the driver is being removed, then wait in the

This patch extends the set/get_rxfh ethtool-options for getting or
setting the RSS hash function.
It modifies drivers implementation of set/get_rxfh accordingly.
This change also delegates the responsibility of checking whether a
modification to a certain RX flow hash parameter is supported to the
driver implementation of set_rxfh.
User-kernel API is done through the new hfunc bitmask field in the
ethtool_rxfh struct. A bit set in the hfunc field is corresponding to an
index in the new string-set ETH_SS_RSS_HASH_FUNCS.
Got approval from most of the relevant driver maintainers that their
driver is using Toeplitz, and for the few that didn't answered, also
assumed it is Toeplitz.

When multiple VFs attempt to initialize simultaneously, the firmware may
delay or drop messages. Make the init code more adept at handling these
situations by a) reinitializing the admin queue if the firmware fails to
process a request, and b) resending a request if the PF doesn't answer.
Once the request has been sent again, the PF might end up getting both
requests and send the configuration information to the driver twice.
This will cause the VF to complain about receiving an unexpected message
from the PF. Since this is not fatal, reduce the warning level of the
log messages that are generated in response to this event.

Overloading the msg_size field in the arq_event_info struct is just a
bad idea. It leads to repeated bugs when the structure is used in a
loop, since the input value (buffer size) is overwritten by the output
value (actual message length).
Fix this by splitting the field into two and renaming to indicate the
actual function of each field.
Since the arq_event struct has now changed, we need to change the drivers
to support this. Note that we no longer need to initialize the buffer size
each time we go through a loop as this value is no longer destroyed by
arq processing.
In the process, we also fix a bug in i40evf_verify_api_ver where the
buffer size was not correctly reinitialized each time through the loop.

Make the early init AQ message receive code more robust by handling

This also gets rid of some scary log messages that really didn't

struct gets overwritten. Because of this, we need to reinit the field
each time we go through the loop. Without this we may receive truncated
messages due to the firmware thinking we have insufficient buffer size.

So, replacing all the instances of udelay() with 10 or greater than 10
micro seconds delay in the driver and using usleep_range() instead.

desc pending, if the driver chooses to ignore it the queue progresses
forward and the stack never experiences a real hang.
With this patch we will log a stat when this situation happens
"tx_sluggish" will increment and we can see some more details
at a higher debug level. Other than that we will ignore this
particular case of Tx hang.

There is at least one case in the Firmware API where the response to a
command changes the buffer size field in the AQ descriptor to a larger
number than what the request's buffer size started as. This is in addition
to setting an error flag and is in order to tell the requester how much
larger a buffer is required for the answer. We need to be sure not to
use that number when dumping the contents of the data buffer because it
can send us into the weeds and generate an invalid pointer exception.
This patch adds a max buffer size parameter to the print helper to be
sure the code knows when to stop.

This device claims TSO and checksum support for vlans. It also
allows a user to control vlan acceleration offloading. As such,
it is possible to turn off vlan acceleration and configure a vlan
which will continue to support TSO and hw checksums.
In such situation the packet passed down the the device will contain
a vlan header and skb->protocol will be set to ETH_P_8021Q.
The device assumes that skb->protocol contains network protocol
value and uses that value to set up TSO and checksum information.
This results in corrupted frames sent on the wire.
This patch extract the protocol value correctly and corrects TSO
and checksums for non-accelerated traffic.
Fix this by using vlan_get_protocol() helper.

This implements a state machine intended to support the userland tool for
updating the device eeprom. The state machine implements one-shot reads,
writes, multi-step write sessions, and checksum requests. If we're in the middle
of a multi-step write session, no one should fire off other writes, however, one
shot reads are valid. The userland tool is expected to keep track of its session
status, arrange the placement and ordering of the writes, and deal with the
checksum requirement.
This patch also adds nvmupdate support to ethtool callbacks.
The get_eeprom() and set_eeprom() services in ethtool are used here to
facilitate the userland NVMUpdate tool. The 'magic' value in the get and
set commands is used to pass additional control information for managing
the read and write steps.
The read operation works both as normally expected in the standard ethtool
method, as well as with the extra NVM controls. The write operation
works only for the expanded NVM functions - the normal ethtool method is
not allowed because of the NVM semaphore management needed for multipart
writes, as well as the checksum requirement.

The HW still needs to consume it and freeing it in the function
that created it would mean we will be racing with the HW. The
i40e_clean_tx_ring() routine will free up the buffer attached once
the HW has consumed it. The clean_fdir_tx_irq function had to be fixed
to handle the freeing correctly.
Cases where we program more than one filter per flow (Ipv4), the
code had to be changed to allocate dummy buffer multiple times
since it will be freed by the clean routine. This also fixes an issue
where the filter program routine was not checking if there were
descriptors available for programming a filter.

In some circumstances, the firmware could beat us to the punch, and the
reply from the PF would come back before we were able to properly modify
the aq_pending and aq_required flags. This would mess up the flags and
put the driver in an indeterminate state, much like Schrödinger's cat.
However, unlike the cat, the driver is definitely dead.
To fix this, simply set the flags before sending the request to the AQ.
This way, it won't matter if the interrupt comes back too soon.

FW can indicate any admin queue error states to the driver via some bits
in the length registers. Each time we process an admin queue message,
check these bits and log any errors we find. Since the VF really can't
do much, we just print the message and depend on the PF driver to clear
things up on our behalf.

The TSO logic in the transmit path had some assumptions that
have been broken now that the kernel can send as much as 32kB
in a single skb->frag[.] entry, even on a system with 4kB pages.
This fixes the assumptions and allows the kernel to operate
as efficiently as possible with both SENDFILE and SEND.
In addition, the hardware limit of data contained in a descriptor is
changed to the next power of two below where it currently is in
order to align to a power of two value, preventing a single byte
of data in a descriptor.

i40evf_set_ringparam was broken in several ways. First, it only changed
the size of the first ring, and second, changing the ring size would
often result in a panic because it would change the count before
deallocating resources, causing the driver to either free nonexistent
buffers, or leak leftover buffers.
Fix this by storing the descriptor count in the adapter structure, and
updating the count for each ring each time we allocate them. This
ensures that we always free the right size ring, and always end up with
the requested count when the device is (re)opened.

Pull request: Fixes for new ethtool RSS commands
This addresses several problems I previously identified with the new
ETHTOOL_{G,S}RSSH commands:
1. Missing validation of reserved parameters
2. Vague documentation
3. Use of unnamed magic number
4. No consolidation with existing driver operations
I don't currently have access to suitable network hardware, but have
tested these changes with a dummy driver that can support various
combinations of operations and sizes, together with (a) Debian's ethtool
3.13 (b) ethtool 3.14 with the submitted patch to use ETHTOOL_{G,S}RSSH
and minor adjustment for fixes 1 and 3.

The RESETTING state means that a Catastrophic Hardware Bad Thing is
happening and the driver need to tiptoe around and not use the admin
queue or registers or anything like that.
On the other hand, a reinit is no big deal and we can use the admin
queue, and we should. So don't set the state to RESETTING here.
This fixes a Tx hang and FW crash that happens after setting the MTU on
a VF.
