Glue layers are starting to have separate
requirements. For example, OMAP's glue layer
is starting to use extcon framework which
no one else needs.
In order to make it clear the proper dependencies,
we are now allowing glue layers to be selectable
so that each glue layer can list their own dependencies
without messing with the core IP driver.

If the descriptor is missing the reqeust is never unmapped. This patch
changes this and renames the cleanup label to unlock since there is no
cleanup done. The cleanup would revert the allocation of ressource (i.e.
this dma mapping) but it does not, it simply unlocks and returns.

This patch removes is_dma_capable() and an ifdef in the init/exit path
around init/de-init of the dma_controller. Since we have the empty stubs

The core code creates a controller and immediately after that it calls

The same thing happens in the destroy corner: First ->stop() called

commit 57f6ce072e ("usb: phy:
add a new driver for usb3 phy") added the new Kconfig option
OMAP_USB3, but it had no dependencies whatsoever, and hence
became available across all arch/platforms.
Which presumably caused this to show up in x86 randconfig:
warning: (USB_MUSB_HDRC && OMAP_USB3) selects \
OMAP_CONTROL_USB which has unmet direct \
dependencies (USB_SUPPORT && ARCH_OMAP2PLUS)
Then commit 6992819feb ("usb: phy:
fix Kconfig warning") was added. However, this just deleted the
ARCH_OMAP2PLUS dependency from OMAP_CONTROL_USB, further
compounding the problem by opening up OMAP_CONTROL_USB to
all arch/platforms as well.
Earlier it was suggested[1] that we revert the change of 6992819feb
to restore the dependency, and add a same ARCH_OMAP2PLUS dependency
to the new OMAP_USB3 entry. However that was discouraged on the
grounds of people wanting the extra sanity compile testing on x86,
even though the driver could probably never be used there.
Now we have CONFIG_COMPILE_TEST, so developers who value the ability
to compile drivers on an architecture that it never can be used for
can have that, and people who want dependencies to shield them from
seeing options that aren't relevant to their platform get what they
want too.
Here we restore the dependency but couple it with COMPILE_TEST, in
order to achieve both of the above goals.

Updated skel_read() in usb-skeleton.c. When there is no data in the

Original logic give retry only for blocking case. Actually we can also
allow retry for nonblocking case. This will reuse the existing retry
logic and handle the return of -EAGAIN in one place. Also if the data to
be read is short and can be retrieved in quick time, we can also give a
chance for nonblocking case and may catch the data and copy it back to

For certain (HP) printers the printer device_id does not only contain a
static part identifying the printer, but it also contains a dynamic part
giving printer status, ink level, etc.
To get to this info various userspace utilities need to be able to make a
printer class 'get_device_id' request without first claiming the interface
(as that is in use for the actual printer driver).
Since the printer class 'get_device_id' request does not change interface
settings in anyway, allowing this without claiming the interface should not

Xhci controllers with hci_version > 0.96 gives spurious success
events on short packet completion. During webcam capture the
"ERROR Transfer event TRB DMA ptr not part of current TD" was observed.
The same application works fine with synopsis controllers hci_version 0.96.
The same issue is seen with Intel Pantherpoint xhci controller. So enabling
this quirk in xhci_gen_setup if controller verion is greater than 0.96.
For xhci-pci move the quirk to much generic place xhci_gen_setup.
Note from Sarah:
The xHCI 1.0 spec changed how hardware handles short packets. The HW
will notify SW of the TRB where the short packet occurred, and it will
also give a successful status for the last TRB in a TD (the one with the
IOC flag set). On the second successful status, that warning will be
triggered in the driver.
Software is now supposed to not assume the TD is not completed until it
gets that last successful status. That means we have a slight race
condition, although it should have little practical impact. This patch
papers over that issue.
It's on my long-term to-do list to fix this race condition, but it is a
much more involved patch that will probably be too big for stable. This
patch is needed for stable to avoid serious log spam.
This patch should be backported to kernels as old as 3.0, that
contain the commit ad808333d8 "Intel xhci:
Ignore spurious successful event."
The patch will have to be modified for kernels older than 3.2, since
that kernel added the xhci_gen_setup function for xhci platform devices.
The correct conflict resolution for kernels older than 3.2 is to set
XHCI_SPURIOUS_SUCCESS in xhci_pci_quirks for all xHCI 1.0 hosts.

drivers/usb/host/xhci.c:3901:12: warning: 'xhci_change_max_exit_latency' defined but not used [-Wunused-function]
These functions are not always used, and since they're marked static

When the host controller fails to respond to an Enable Slot command, and
the host fails to respond to the register write to abort the command
ring, the xHCI driver will assume the host is dead, and call
usb_hc_died().
The USB device's slot_id is still set to zero, and the pointer stored at
xhci->devs[0] will always be NULL. The call to xhci_check_args in
xhci_free_dev should have caught the NULL virt_dev pointer.
However, xhci_free_dev is designed to free the xhci_virt_device
structures, even if the host is dead, so that we don't leak kernel
memory. xhci_free_dev checks the return value from the generic
xhci_check_args function. If the return value is -ENODEV, it carries on
trying to free the virtual device.
The issue is that xhci_check_args looks at the host controller state
before it looks at the xhci_virt_device pointer. It will return -ENIVAL
because the host is dead, and xhci_free_dev will ignore the return
value, and happily dereference the NULL xhci_virt_device pointer.
The fix is to make sure that xhci_check_args checks the xhci_virt_device
pointer before it checks the host state.
See https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1203453 for
further details. This patch doesn't solve the underlying issue, but
will ensure we don't see any more NULL pointer dereferences because of
the issue.
This patch should be backported to kernels as old as 3.1, that
contain the commit 7bd89b4017 "xhci: Don't

USB spec stats that short packet can only appear at the end
of transfer. Because lost of HC(EHCI/UHCI/OHCI/...) can't
build a full packet from discontinuous buffers, we introduce
the limit in usb_submit_urb() to avoid such kind of bad sg buffers
coming from driver.
The limit might be a bit strict:
- platform has iommu to do sg list mapping
- some host controllers may support to build full packet from
discontinuous buffers.
But considered that most of HCs don't support that, and driver
need work well or keep consistent on different HCs and ARCHs, we
have to introduce the limit.
Currently, only usbtest is reported to pass such sg buffers to HC,
and other users(mass storage, usbfs) don't have the problem.
We don't check it on USB wireless device, because:
- wireless devices can't be attached to common USB
bus(EHCI/UHCI/OHCI/...)

This removes the dependency of the driver on CONFIG_USB_DEBUG and moves
it to us the dynamic debug subsystem instead. Bonus is the fact that we
can now properly determine the exact hardware that is spitting out the
messages.
This lets debugging be enabled without having to rebuild the driver, an
important thing for users that can not do it.

Make the Linux xHCI driver automatically try to switchover the EHCI ports to
xHCI when an Intel xHCI host is detected, and it also finds an Intel EHCI host.
This means we will no longer have to add Intel xHCI hosts to a quirks list when
the PCI device IDs change. Simply continuing to add new Intel xHCI PCI device
IDs to the quirks list is not sustainable.
During suspend ports may be swicthed back to EHCI by BIOS and not properly
restored to xHCI at resume. Previously both EHCI and xHCI resume functions
switched ports back to XHCI, but it's enough to do it in xHCI only
because the hub driver doesn't start running again until after both hosts are resumed.

USB 2.1 devices can go into a lower power link state, L1. When they are
active, they are in the L0 state. The L1 transition can be purely
driven by software, or some USB host controllers (including some xHCI
1.0 hosts) allow the host hardware to track idleness and automatically
place a port into L1.
The USB 2.1 Link Power Management ECN gives a way for USB 2.1 hubs that
support LPM to report that a port is in L1. The port status bit 5 will
be set when the port is in L1. The xHCI host reports the root port as
being in 'U2' when the devices is in L1, and as being in 'U0' when the
port is active (in L0).
Translate the xHCI USB 2.1 link status into the format external hubs
use, and pass the L1 status up to the USB core and tools like lsusb.

The hub driver was recently changed to use "global" suspend for system
suspend transitions on non-SuperSpeed buses. This means that we don't
suspend devices individually by setting the suspend feature on the
upstream hub port; instead devices all go into suspend automatically
when the root hub stops transmitting packets. The idea was to save
time and to avoid certain kinds of wakeup races.
Now it turns out that many hubs are buggy; they don't relay wakeup
requests from a downstream port to their upstream port if the
downstream port's suspend feature is not set (depending on the speed
of the downstream port, whether or not the hub is enabled for remote
wakeup, and possibly other factors).
We can't have hubs dropping wakeup requests. Therefore this patch
goes partway back to the old policy: It sets the suspend feature for a
port if the device attached to that port or any of its descendants is
enabled for wakeup. People will still be able to benefit from the
time savings if they don't care about wakeup and leave it disabled on
all their devices.
In order to accomplish this, the patch adds a new field to the usb_hub
structure: wakeup_enabled_descendants is a count of how many devices
below a suspended hub are enabled for remote wakeup. A corresponding
new subroutine determines the number of wakeup-enabled devices at or
below an arbitrary suspended USB device.
This should be applied to the 3.10 stable kernel.

Per dwc3 2.50a spec, the is_devspec bit is used to distinguish the
Device Endpoint-Specific Event or Device-Specific Event (DEVT). If the
bit is 1, the event is represented Device-Specific Event, then use
[7:1] bits as Device Specific Event to marked the type. It has 7 bits,
and we can see the reserved8_31 variable name which means from 8 to 31
bits marked reserved, actually there are 24 bits not 25 bits between
that. And 1 + 7 + 24 = 32, the event size is 4 byes.
So in dwc3_event_type, the bit mask should be:
is_devspec [0] 1 bit
type [7:1] 7 bits
reserved8_31 [31:8] 24 bits
This patch should be backported to kernels as old as 3.2, that contain
the commit 72246da40f "usb: Introduce
DesignWare USB3 DRD Driver".

- Remove #ifdef from linux/of_platform.h to increase compiler syntax

- Bug fix for address decoding on Bimini and js2x powerpc platforms.

One note on the above. The binding changes going in from all kinds of
different trees has gotten rather out of hand. I picked up some during

Campbell has prototyped splitting the bindings and .dtb files into a

Merge tag 'pm+acpi-3.11-rc1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/rafael/linux-pm
Pull power management and ACPI updates from Rafael Wysocki:
"This time the total number of ACPI commits is slightly greater than
the number of cpufreq commits, but Viresh Kumar (who works on cpufreq)
remains the most active patch submitter.
To me, the most significant change is the addition of offline/online
device operations to the driver core (with the Greg's blessing) and
the related modifications of the ACPI core hotplug code. Next are the
freezer updates from Colin Cross that should make the freezing of
tasks a bit less heavy weight.
We also have a couple of regression fixes, a number of fixes for
issues that have not been identified as regressions, two new drivers
and a bunch of cleanups all over.
Highlights:
- Hotplug changes to support graceful hot-removal failures.
It sometimes is necessary to fail device hot-removal operations
gracefully if they cannot be carried out completely. For example,
if memory from a memory module being hot-removed has been allocated
for the kernel's own use and cannot be moved elsewhere, it's
desirable to fail the hot-removal operation in a graceful way
rather than to crash the kernel, but currenty a success or a kernel
crash are the only possible outcomes of an attempted memory
hot-removal. Needless to say, that is not a very attractive
alternative and it had to be addressed.
However, in order to make it work for memory, I first had to make
it work for CPUs and for this purpose I needed to modify the ACPI
processor driver. It's been split into two parts, a resident one
handling the low-level initialization/cleanup and a modular one
playing the actual driver's role (but it binds to the CPU system
device objects rather than to the ACPI device objects representing
processors). That's been sort of like a live brain surgery on a
patient who's riding a bike.
So this is a little scary, but since we found and fixed a couple of
regressions it caused to happen during the early linux-next testing
(a month ago), nobody has complained.
As a bonus we remove some duplicated ACPI hotplug code, because the
ACPI-based CPU hotplug is now going to use the common ACPI hotplug
code.
- Lighter weight freezing of tasks.
These changes from Colin Cross and Mandeep Singh Baines are
targeted at making the freezing of tasks a bit less heavy weight
operation. They reduce the number of tasks woken up every time
during the freezing, by using the observation that the freezer
simply doesn't need to wake up some of them and wait for them all
to call refrigerator(). The time needed for the freezer to decide
to report a failure is reduced too.
Also reintroduced is the check causing a lockdep warining to
trigger when try_to_freeze() is called with locks held (which is
generally unsafe and shouldn't happen).
- cpufreq updates
First off, a commit from Srivatsa S Bhat fixes a resume regression
introduced during the 3.10 cycle causing some cpufreq sysfs
attributes to return wrong values to user space after resume. The
fix is kind of fresh, but also it's pretty obvious once Srivatsa
has identified the root cause.
Second, we have a new freqdomain_cpus sysfs attribute for the
acpi-cpufreq driver to provide information previously available via
related_cpus. From Lan Tianyu.
Finally, we fix a number of issues, mostly related to the
CPUFREQ_POSTCHANGE notifier and cpufreq Kconfig options and clean
up some code. The majority of changes from Viresh Kumar with bits
from Jacob Shin, Heiko Stübner, Xiaoguang Chen, Ezequiel Garcia,
Arnd Bergmann, and Tang Yuantian.
- ACPICA update
A usual bunch of updates from the ACPICA upstream.
During the 3.4 cycle we introduced support for ACPI 5 extended
sleep registers, but they are only supposed to be used if the
HW-reduced mode bit is set in the FADT flags and the code attempted
to use them without checking that bit. That caused suspend/resume
regressions to happen on some systems. Fix from Lv Zheng causes
those registers to be used only if the HW-reduced mode bit is set.
Apart from this some other ACPICA bugs are fixed and code cleanups
are made by Bob Moore, Tomasz Nowicki, Lv Zheng, Chao Guan, and
Zhang Rui.
- cpuidle updates
New driver for Xilinx Zynq processors is added by Michal Simek.
Multidriver support simplification, addition of some missing
kerneldoc comments and Kconfig-related fixes come from Daniel
Lezcano.
- ACPI power management updates
Changes to make suspend/resume work correctly in Xen guests from
Konrad Rzeszutek Wilk, sparse warning fix from Fengguang Wu and
cleanups and fixes of the ACPI device power state selection
routine.
- ACPI documentation updates
Some previously missing pieces of ACPI documentation are added by
Lv Zheng and Aaron Lu (hopefully, that will help people to
uderstand how the ACPI subsystem works) and one outdated doc is
updated by Hanjun Guo.
- Assorted ACPI updates
We finally nailed down the IA-64 issue that was the reason for
reverting commit 9f29ab11dd ("ACPI / scan: do not match drivers
against objects having scan handlers"), so we can fix it and move
the ACPI scan handler check added to the ACPI video driver back to
the core.
A mechanism for adding CMOS RTC address space handlers is
introduced by Lan Tianyu to allow some EC-related breakage to be
fixed on some systems.
A spec-compliant implementation of acpi_os_get_timer() is added by
Mika Westerberg.
The evaluation of _STA is added to do_acpi_find_child() to avoid
situations in which a pointer to a disabled device object is
returned instead of an enabled one with the same _ADR value. From
Jeff Wu.
Intel BayTrail PCH (Platform Controller Hub) support is added to
the ACPI driver for Intel Low-Power Subsystems (LPSS) and that
driver is modified to work around a couple of known BIOS issues.
Changes from Mika Westerberg and Heikki Krogerus.
The EC driver is fixed by Vasiliy Kulikov to use get_user() and
put_user() instead of dereferencing user space pointers blindly.
Code cleanups are made by Bjorn Helgaas, Nicholas Mazzuca and Toshi
Kani.
- Assorted power management updates
The "runtime idle" helper routine is changed to take the return
values of the callbacks executed by it into account and to call
rpm_suspend() if they return 0, which allows us to reduce the
overall code bloat a bit (by dropping some code that's not
necessary any more after that modification).
The runtime PM documentation is updated by Alan Stern (to reflect
the "runtime idle" behavior change).
New trace points for PM QoS are added by Sahara
(<keun-o.park@windriver.com>).
PM QoS documentation is updated by Lan Tianyu.
Code cleanups are made and minor issues are addressed by Bernie
Thompson, Bjorn Helgaas, Julius Werner, and Shuah Khan.
- devfreq updates
New driver for the Exynos5-bus device from Abhilash Kesavan.
Minor cleanups, fixes and MAINTAINERS update from MyungJoo Ham,
Abhilash Kesavan, Paul Bolle, Rajagopal Venkat, and Wei Yongjun.
- OMAP power management updates
Adaptive Voltage Scaling (AVS) SmartReflex voltage control driver

These changes are all driver specific and cross over between arm-soc

have these changes merged through arm-soc. As we proceed to untangle
the dependencies between platform code and driver code, the amount of

These changes are all to SoC-specific code, a total of 33 branches on
17 platforms were pulled into this. Like last time, Renesas sh-mobile
is now the platform with the most changes, followed by OMAP and EXYNOS.
Two new platforms, TI Keystone and Rockchips RK3xxx are added in
this branch, both containing almost no platform specific code at all,
since they are using generic subsystem interfaces for clocks, pinctrl,
interrupts etc. The device drivers are getting merged through the
respective subsystem maintainer trees.
One more SoC (u300) is now multiplatform capable and several others
(shmobile, exynos, msm, integrator, kirkwood, clps711x) are moving
towards that goal with this series but need more work.
Also noteworthy is the work on PCI here, which is traditionally part of
the SoC specific code. With the changes done by Thomas Petazzoni, we can
now more easily have PCI host controller drivers as loadable modules and
keep them separate from the platform code in drivers/pci/host. This has
already led to the discovery that three platforms (exynos, spear and imx)
are actually using an identical PCIe host controller and will be able
to share a driver once support for spear and imx is added.
Conflicts:
* asm/glue-proc.h has one CPU type getting added that conflicts
with another addition in 3.10-rc7
* Simple context changes in arch/arm/Makefile and arch/arm/Kconfig

Merge tag 'soc-for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arm/arm-soc
Pull ARM SoC specific changes from Arnd Bergmann:
"These changes are all to SoC-specific code, a total of 33 branches on
17 platforms were pulled into this. Like last time, Renesas sh-mobile
is now the platform with the most changes, followed by OMAP and
EXYNOS.
Two new platforms, TI Keystone and Rockchips RK3xxx are added in this
branch, both containing almost no platform specific code at all, since
they are using generic subsystem interfaces for clocks, pinctrl,
interrupts etc. The device drivers are getting merged through the
respective subsystem maintainer trees.
One more SoC (u300) is now multiplatform capable and several others
(shmobile, exynos, msm, integrator, kirkwood, clps711x) are moving
towards that goal with this series but need more work.
Also noteworthy is the work on PCI here, which is traditionally part
of the SoC specific code. With the changes done by Thomas Petazzoni,
we can now more easily have PCI host controller drivers as loadable
modules and keep them separate from the platform code in
drivers/pci/host. This has already led to the discovery that three
platforms (exynos, spear and imx) are actually using an identical PCIe
host controller and will be able to share a driver once support for
spear and imx is added."

clock framework is to use clk_prepare() and clk_enable() so the first

commit ea1418b5f1 (usb: chipidea: i.MX: use devm_usb_get_phy_by_phandle to get
phy) causes the USB host to miss the disconnect/connect events.
In order to reproduce this problem:
- Insert a USB thumb into the USB host port (connection is detected)
- Remove it (no disconnect event will be reported)
- Insert the USB thumb again (connection is not detected)
Fix this problem by accessing the usb_phy structure using the private data
instead of accessing a local structure.
Tested on a mx28evk board.

This patch fixes a race condition that caused the HWA_HC interface probe
function to occasionally fail. The HWA_HC would attempt to register
itself with the HWA_RC by searching for a uwb_rc class device with the
same parent device ptr. If the probe function for the HWA_RC interface
had yet to run, the uwb_rc class device would not have been created
causing the look up to fail and the HWA_HC probe function to return an
error causing the device to be unusable.
The fix is for the HWA to delay registering with the HWA_RC until
receiving the command from userspace to start the wireless channel. It
is the responsibility of userspace to ensure that the uwb_rc class
device has been created before starting the HWA channel.

"ci13xxx" is bad for at least the following reasons:
* people often mistype it
* it doesn't add any informational value to the names it's used in
* it needlessly attracts mail filters
This patch replaces it with "ci_hdrc", "ci_udc" or "ci_hw", depending
on the situation. Modules with ci13xxx prefix are also renamed accordingly
and aliases are added for compatibility. Otherwise, no functional changes.

The current Makefile rules to build font support are messy and buggy.
Replace them by Kconfig rules:
- Introduce CONFIG_FONT_SUPPORT, which controls the building of all font
code,
- Select CONFIG_FONT_SUPPORT for all drivers that use fonts,
- Select CONFIG_FONT_8x16 for all drivers that default to the VGA8x16
font,
- Drop the bogus console dependency for CONFIG_VIDEO_VIVI,
- Always process drivers/video/console/Makefile, as some drivers need
fonts even if CONFIG_VT is not set.
This fixes (if CONFIG_SOLO6X10=y and there are no built-in console
drivers):
drivers/built-in.o: In function `solo_osd_print':
drivers/staging/media/solo6x10/solo6x10-enc.c:144: undefined reference to `.find_font'

Hi Greg,
This patchset removes instances of BUG() from the xHCI driver. It adds code to
gracefully handle failures by returning standard error values, and changing the
driver to handle those failure cases. These are against Greg's usb-next

Please queue for 3.11.

xhci: Remove BUG() calls from the driver.
Hi Greg,
This patchset removes instances of BUG() from the xHCI driver. It adds code to
gracefully handle failures by returning standard error values, and changing the
driver to handle those failure cases. These are against Greg's usb-next
branch, and are not marked for stable.
Please queue for 3.11.

Under some circumstances it happens that the connected PHY can't be
powered up properly, in which case the cleanup path currently crashes
because it checks the tegra->transceiver field using !IS_ERR(), which
will succeed because it is in fact NULL. Dereferencing that pointer
causes an oops in tegra_ehci_probe().
This patch fixes the issue by adding an additional label into the
cleanup path to separately take down the PHY and the transceiver.

The Tegra EHCI driver directly calls various functions in the Tegra USB
PHY driver. The reverse is also true; the PHY driver calls into the EHCI
driver. This is problematic when the two are built as modules.
The calls from the PHY to EHCI driver were originally added in commit
bbdabdb "usb: add APIs to access host registers from Tegra PHY", for the
following reasons:
1) The register being touched is an EHCI register, so logically only the
EHCI driver should touch it.
2) (1) implies that some locking may be needed to correctly implement the
r/m/w access to this shared register.
3) We were expecting to pass only the PHY register space to the Tegra PHY
driver, and hence it would not have access to touch the shared
registers.
To solve this, that commit added functions in the EHCI driver to touch the
shared register on behalf of the PHY driver.
In practice, we ended up not having any locking in the implementaiton of
those functions, and I've been led to believe this is safe. Equally, (3)
did not happen either. Hence, it is possible for the PHY driver to touch
the shared register directly.
Given that, this patch moves the code to touch the shared register back
into the PHY driver, to eliminate the module problems. If we actually
need locking or co-ordination in the future, I propose we put the lock
support into some pre-existing core module, or into a third separate
module, in order to avoid the circular dependencies.
I apologize for my contribution to code churn here.

The PM routines in ehci-tegra.c use APIs such as ehci_reset(),
ehci_halt(), and ehci_tdi_reset() that would need to be exported to
convert ehci-tegra.c into a separate module from ehci-hcd.c. However,
we'd prefer not to export them.
Instead, simply remove all power management functionality. Runtime PM
was disabled since it didn't work correctly, and system suspend isn't
yet supported in a meaningful way. So, this change doesn't lose any
functionality.
Hopefully the power management logic can be reimplemented in a cleaner

> When USB_EHCI_HCD=m and USB_CHIPIDEA=y.
In fact, this problem is existed on all platforms which are using
chipidea driver. The root cause of this problem is the chipidea host
uses symbol exported from ehci-hcd, but chipidea core
does not depends on USB_EHCI_HCD. So, chipidea driver
will not be compiled as module if USB_EHCI_HCD=m.
It is very hard to give a perfect solution since chipidea core
depends on USB || USB_GADGET, and chipdiea host depends on
both USB_EHCI_HCD and USB_CHIPIDEA, the same problem exists for
gadget.
To fix this problem, we had to have below assumptions:
- If USB_EHCI_HCD=y && USB_GADGET=y, USB_CHIPIDEA can be 'y'.
- If USB_EHCI_HCD=m && USB_GADGET=y, USB_CHIPIDEA=m
or USB_CHIPIDEA_HOST can't be seen if USB_CHIPIDEA=y.
It will cause compile error due to no glue layer for ehci:
> error: #error "missing bus glue for ehci-hcd"
So, we had to compile USB_CHIPIDEA=m if USB_EHCI_HCD=m,
current ehci hcd core guarantee it.
- If USB_EHCI_HCD=y && USB_GADGET=m, USB_CHIPIDEA=m
or USB_CHIPIDEA_UDC can't be seen if USB_CHIPIDEA=y.
Of cos, the gadget will out of working at this situation,
so the user had to compile USB_CHIPIDEA=m.
- USB_EHCI_HCD=m && USB_GADGET=m, we can't see
USB_CHIPIDEA_HOST and USB_CHIPIDEA_UDC unless
USB_CHIPIDEA=m.
The reason why it has above assumptions:
- If both ehci core and gadget core build as module,
the chipidea has to build as module.
- If one of ehci core or gadget core is built in, another
is built as module, we can only enable the function which
is built in, or enable both roles as modules (USB_CHIPIDEA=m),
since chipidea core driver takes care of both host and device roles.

The motivation for doing this change is that in the case of error, the current

Updating only the local reg_vbus is wrong, since we currently check for

It turns out, that "function" was only ever called in the one place, so
instead of locking/unlocking for no good reason, just inline the
function and only grab the lock once.
This has sped up the pathological case of sending 1 byte packets to a
loop-back cdc-acm device from 49600 bytes per second to 50100 bytes a
second on my workstation. A tiny increase yes, but noticable, and now
the spinlock isn't the hottest thing on the perf graph anymore. Yes, we
are still waiting for the hardware for the most part, but getting rid of
a spinlock_irq_save() call for every packet is still a good thing.
And we end up deleting lines of code, always a win overall.

This moves the allocation of minor device numbers from a static array to
be dynamic, using the idr interface. This means that you could
potentially get "gaps" in a minor number range for a single USB serial
device with multiple ports, but all should still work properly.
We remove the 'minor' field from the usb_serial structure, as it no
longer makes any sense for it (use the field in the usb_serial_port
structure if you really want to know this number), and take the fact
that we were overloading a number in this field to determine if we had
initialized the minor numbers or not, and just use a flag variable
instead.
Note, we still have the limitation of 255 USB to serial devices in the

This patch Initializes the register offset values depending
on the X_MAJOR of USBOTGSS_REVISION register. Also adds register
offset defines and new debug register defines.
X_MAJOR is 2 for both OMAP5 and AM437x. But both have different
glue register layout. Differentiate AM437x using dt compatible.
Register offsets are cached in dwc3_omap struct for reg reads
and writes.

AM437x and OMAP5 dwc3 subsytem have different register map.
Major differences are as follows.
OMAP5 has one main interrupt and one misc interrupt
Aegis has four main interrupts and one misc interrupt.
Miscellanous Interrupt offsets are changed.
UTMI OTG Control and Status Registers offsets are changed.
DEBUG Configuration and Status Registers are changed.
The main intend of the patch is to re-use the same wrapper driver
for both OMAP5 and AM437x, by using the x_major in revision
register and adjusting the offsets.

The driver currently only supports R8A7779 SoC. Compared to it, R8A7778 USB-PHY
has extra register range containing two high-speed signal quality characteristic
control registers which should be set up during USB-PHY startup depending on
whether a ferrite bead is in use or not. So, we now handle an optional second
memory range in the driver's probe method, add the 'ferrite_bead' field to the
driver's platform data, and add an extra (optional) step to the USB-PHY startup
routine which sets up the extended registers.
Also mark in the driver's Kconfig section that R8A7778 is now supported and
generally clarify that section, uppercasing the word "phy" and also changing
the module name that got lost in the big driver rename, while at it...

The usb_serial_port structure had the number field, which was the minor
number for the port, which almost no one really cared about. They
really wanted the number of the port within the device, which you had to
subtract from the minor of the parent usb_serial_device structure. To
clean this up, provide the real minor number of the port, and the number
of the port within the serial device separately, as these numbers might
not be related in the future.
Bonus is that this cleans up a lot of logic in the drivers, and saves
lines overall.

Hi Greg,
Here's six patches to be queued for 3.11.
The first four add support for a new type of host hardware-managed USB
2.0 Link Power Management. Hosts with BESL support, including Intel
Haswell ULT systems, will now be able to have USB 2.0 devices go into
the lower power link state (L1) in between packets. These patches have
been tested on Haswell ULT platforms with USB 2.0 webcams that support
Link PM.
The other two patches are clean up. One from Julius clarifies the xHCI
endpoint context debugging to make it consistent with standard endpoint
addresses, instead of xHCI endpoint context indexes. The one from Alex
changes the xHCI driver to be consistent about passing a void pointer to
the xHCI IRQ handler.

This patch reduces the keepalive threshold of WUSB host controllers from
timeout/2 to timeout/3. The keepalive timer fires every timeout/2 ms, but
due to rounding errors and jitter, the host may decide not to send a
keepalive at timeout/2. By the time the next timer fires, a full timeout
period may have expired causing the device to be disconnected without ever
having been sent a keepalive. Changing the keepalive threshold to
timeout/3 ensures that at least one keepalive will be sent before a device
is disconnected. The patch also updates the code to use msecs_to_jiffies
consistently.

The three options USB_ARCH_HAS_{EHCI,OHCI,XHCI} are all well beyond
their recommended shelf life. They have caused numerous build failures
over the years because they are never completely correct, and with
the move to splitting out the platform specific back-ends out of the
driver, there is no real need for them any more. Also, the use of making
USB_ARCH_HAS_HCD depend on it is questionable since one can always enable
dummy_hc these days.
This patch enables them unconditionally for all platforms and
architectures, which means it is now possible to build host controller
drivers for machines that are known not to come with this hardware,
but that is just how we treat most other drivers.
In order to minimise the impact on existing architecture code and
defconfig files, all the Kconfig are left present for now. All platforms
that currently do 'select USB_ARCH_HAS_*' should subsequently be changed
not to select that. All drivers depending on USB_ARCH_HAS_HCD should
be changed to depend on USB_SUPPORT instead.

When CONFIG_XHCI_HCD_DEBUGGING is activated, the XHCI driver can dump
device and input contexts to the console. The endpoint contexts in that
dump are labeled "Endpoint N Context", where N is the XHCI endpoint
index (DCI - 1). This can be very confusing, especially for people who
are not that familiar with the XHCI specification. This patch introduces
an xhci_get_endpoint_address function (as a counterpart to the reverse
xhci_get_endpoint_index), and uses it to additionally display the
endpoint number and direction when dumping contexts, which are much more
commonly used concepts in USB.

For all ux500 based platforms the maximum number of end-points are used.
Move this knowledge into the driver so we can relinquish the burden from
platform data. This also removes quite a bit of complexity from the driver
and will aid us when we come to enable the driver for Device Tree.

The "runtime idle" helper routine, rpm_idle(), currently ignores
return values from .runtime_idle() callbacks executed by it.
However, it turns out that many subsystems use
pm_generic_runtime_idle() which checks the return value of the
driver's callback and executes pm_runtime_suspend() for the device
unless that value is not 0. If that logic is moved to rpm_idle()
instead, pm_generic_runtime_idle() can be dropped and its users
will not need any .runtime_idle() callbacks any more.
Moreover, the PCI, SCSI, and SATA subsystems' .runtime_idle()
routines, pci_pm_runtime_idle(), scsi_runtime_idle(), and
ata_port_runtime_idle(), respectively, as well as a few drivers'
ones may be simplified if rpm_idle() calls rpm_suspend() after 0 has
been returned by the .runtime_idle() callback executed by it.
To reduce overall code bloat, make the changes described above.

The usb3503 driver sleeps a flat 100ms when resetting the chip, with a
comment about waiting for the reference clock. This seems to be a
board-specific detail that should not hold up boot across all platforms.
This patch reduces the sleep to the 4ms initialization delay that the
chip itself actually requires (as per its data sheet). If certain boards
require more time to set up the reference clock, they should change this
through local patches or add a proper, configurable synchronization
mechanism.

This patch splits the PCI portion of ohci-hcd out into its
own separate driver module, called ohci-pci.
The major point of difficulty lies in ohci-pci's many vendor- and
device-specific workarounds. Some of them have to be applied before
calling ohci_start() some after, which necessitates a fair amount of
code motion. The other platform drivers require much smaller changes.
The complete sb800_prefetch() function moved to ohci-q.c,because its
only related to ohci-pci driver.
USB_OHCI_HCD_PCI symbol no longer dependence on STB03xxx, PPC_MPC52xx and
USB_OHCI_HCD_PPC_OF that's what removed.
V2:
- few specific content of pci related code in ohci_pci_start function has been moved to ohci_pci_reset
and rest of the generic code is written in ohci_start of ohci-hcd.c file.
V3:
- ohci_restart() has been called in ohci_pci_reset() function for to reset the ohci pci.

This patch prepares ohci-hcd for being split up into a core
library and separate platform driver modules. A generic
ohci_hc_driver structure is created, containing all the "standard"
values, and a new mechanism is added whereby a driver module can
specify a set of overrides to those values. In addition the
ohci_restart(),ohci_suspend() and ohci_resume() routines need
to be EXPORTed for use by the drivers.
Added ohci_setip(() and ohci_start() routine for to start the generic
controller rather than each having its own idiosyncratic approach.
This allow to clean duplicated code in most of SOC driver
In V2:
-ohci_hcd_init() ohci_run() and ohci_stop() are not made non-static.
-Adds the ohci_setup() and ohci_start() routine.
In V3:
-purpose of ohci_setup() and ohci_start() function description written in the patch
description.
-ohci_init() are not made non-static but now called beginning of the ohci_restart().
-ohci_run() signature change reverted back.
-unrelated changes removed.
-duplicate comment line removed.
-inline ohci_suspend() and ohci_resume() is not needed so removed from ohci.h file.
In V4:
-ohci-init() EXPORTed because it is called by all bus glue modules.
-ohci-setup() removed from 1/2 added into 2/2 patch.
In V5:
-Again ohci_setup() is added and EXPORTed because to replace the ohci_init() from
all bus glues.
-ohci_init() is not made non-static function.
In V6:
-ohci_init() call is removed from ohci_quirk_nec_worker(), because it is already called in ohci_restart().
In V8:
-ohci_hcd_init() is called by ohci_setup() to make generic ohci initialization in all ohci drivers.

This patch attempts to fix the isochronous API in the fhci-hcd
driver. There are two problems with the current code:
ed->last_iso is used but not set anywhere. The patch changes
its name to ed->next_iso and uses it to store the frame number
of the next available slot in the isochronous stream.
urb->start_frame isn't set when the URB_ISO_ASAP flag is off.
The patch sets it to the next available slot if the stream is
in use, or the current frame otherwise.
This won't give the right behavior when an underrun occurs, but I
don't know enough about the driver to handle that case.
Unfortunately, I don't have any way to test these changes.

This patch attempts to update the imx21-hcd driver to the current
standard for the isochronous API. Firstly, urb->start_frame should
always be set by the driver; it is not an input parameter. Secondly,
the URB_ISO_ASAP flag matters only when an URB is submitted to a
stream that has gotten an underrun. It causes the URB to be scheduled
for the next available slot in the future, rather than the earliest
unused (and expired) slot.
