Subject: [PATCH] i2c-omap: Fix build breaking typo in cpu_is_omap_2430

Commit 84bf2c86 introduced a typo, it should be cpu_is_omap2430
instead. The typo was probably caused by a mismerge.

Without this patch all omaps fail to build with:
error: implicit declaration of function 'cpu_is_omap_2430'

99cd8e2587 i2c: Add a sysfs interface to instantiate devices
Add a sysfs interface to instantiate and delete I2C devices. This is
primarily a replacement of the force_* module parameters implemented
by some i2c drivers. These module parameters were implemented
internally by the I2C_CLIENT_INSMOD* macros, which don't scale well.

This can also be used when developing a driver on a self-soldered
board which doesn't yet have proper I2C device declaration at the
platform level, and presumably for various debugging situations.

35fc37f818 i2c: Limit core locking to the necessary sections
The i2c-core code tends to hold the core lock for longer than it
should. Limit locking to the necessary sections for both performance
and clarity. This is also a requirement to support I2C multiplexers in
the future.

So far, MPC512x used mpc512x_find_ips_freq() to get the bus frequency,

c6ffddea36 i2c: Use resource_size macro
This replace all instances in the i2c busses tree of
res->end - res->start + 1 with the handy macro resource_size(res)
from ioport.h (coming in from platform_device.h).

This was created with a simple
sed -i -e 's/\([a-z]*\)->end *- *[a-z]*->start *+ *1/resource_size(\1)/g'

Then manually replacing the PXA redefiniton of the same kind
of macro manually. Recompiled some ARM defconfigs I could find to
make a rough test so it shouldn't break anything, though I
couldn't see exactly which configs you need for all the drivers.

dd14be4c27 i2c-ocores: Can add I2C devices to the bus
There is sometimes a need for the ocores driver to add devices to the
bus when installed.

i2c_register_board_info can not always be used, because the I2C devices
 are not known at an early state, they could for instance be connected
 on a I2C bus on a PCI device which has the Open Cores IP.

i2c_new_device can not be used in all cases either since the resulting
bus nummer might be unknown.

The solution is the pass a list of I2C devices in the platform data to
the Open Cores driver. This is useful for MFD drivers.

baf46b4e37 i2c: OMAP2/3: Fix scll/sclh calculations
Fix scll/sclh calculations for HS and fast modes. Currently the driver
uses equal (roughly) low/high times which will result in too short
low time.

OMAP3430 TRM gives the following equations:

	F/S: tLow  = (scll + 7) * internal_clk
	     tHigh = (sclh + 5) * internal_clk
	HS:  tLow  = (scll + 7) * fclk
	     tHigh = (sclh + 5) * fclk

Furthermore, the I2C specification sets the following minimum values
for HS tLow/tHigh for capacitive bus loads 100 pF (maximum speed 3400)
and 400 pF (maximum speed 1700):

	speed	tLow		tHigh
	3400	160 ns		60 ns
	1700	320 ns		120 ns

and for F/S:

	speed	tLow		tHigh
	400	1300 ns		600 ns
	100	4700 ns		4000 ns

By using duty cycles 33/66 (HS, F) and 50/50 (S) we stay above these
minimum values.

94327d009e i2c: Blackfin TWI: fix transfer errors with repeat start
We have a custom BF537 board with an I2C RTC (MAX DS3231) running
uclinux 2007R1 for some time. Recently during migration to 2008R1.5-RC3
we losted access to the RTC. The RTC driver calls 'i2c_transfer()' which
in turns calls 'bfin_twi_master_xfer()' in i2c-bfin-twi.c.

Compared with 2007R1, it looks like the 2008R1.5 version of i2c-bin-twi.c
has a new mode 'TWI_I2C-MODE_REPEAT' which corresponds to the Repeat Start
Condition described in the HRM. However, according to the HRM, at XMIT or
RECV interrupt and when the data count is 0, not only is the RESTART bit
supposed to be set, but MDIR must also be set if the next operation is a
receive sequence, and cleared if not. Currently there is no code that looks
at the I2C_M_RD bit in the flag from the next cur_msg and set/clear the MDIR
flag accordingly at the same time that the RSTART bit is set. Instead, MDIR
is set or cleared (by OR'ing with 0?) after the RESTART bit has been cleared
during handling of MCOMP interrupt.

It appears that this is causing our failure with reading the RTC, as a
quick patch to set/clear MDIR when RESTART is set seem to solve our problem.

2196d1cf4a i2c-algo-pca: Let PCA9564 recover from unacked data byte (state 0x30)
Currently, the i2c-algo-pca driver does nothing if the chip enters state
0x30 (Data byte in I2CDAT has been transmitted; NOT ACK has been
received). Thus, the i2c bus connected to the controller gets stuck
afterwards.

I have seen this kind of error on a custom board in certain load
situations most probably caused by interference or noise.

A possible reaction is to let the controller generate a STOP condition.
This is documented in the PCA9564 data sheet (2006-09-01) and the same
is done for other NACK states as well.

Further, state 0x38 isn't handled completely, either. Try to do another
START in this case like the data sheet says. As this couldn't be tested,
I've added a comment to try to reset the chip if the START doesn't help
as suggested by Wolfram Sang.

0cdba07bb2 i2c-algo-bit: Fix timeout test
When fetching DDC using i2c algo bit, we were often seeing timeouts
before getting valid EDID on a retry. The VESA spec states 2ms is the

f2bd5efe72 i2c: i2c-mpc: make I2C bus speed configurable
This patch makes the I2C bus speed configurable by using the I2C node
property "clock-frequency". If the property is not defined, the old
fixed clock settings will be used for backward comptibility.

The generic I2C clock properties, especially the CPU-specific source
clock pre-scaler are defined via the OF match table:

  static const struct of_device_id mpc_i2c_of_match[] = {
	...
	{.compatible = "fsl,mpc8543-i2c",
	 .data = &(struct fsl_i2c_match_data) {
			.setclock = mpc_i2c_setclock_8xxx,
			.prescaler = 2,
		},
	},

The "data" field defines the relevant I2C setclock function and the
relevant pre-scaler for the I2C source clock frequency.

It uses arch-specific tables and functions to determine resonable
Freqency Divider Register (fdr) values for MPC83xx, MPC85xx, MPC86xx,
MPC5200 and MPC5200B.

The i2c->flags field and the corresponding FSL_I2C_DEV_* definitions
have been removed as they are obsolete.

The platform data for the i2c-s3c2410 driver used to allow a min,

to simply a desired frequency ceiling and corrects all the uses
of the platform data appropriately.

This means, for example, that on a system with a 66MHz fclk, a
request for 100KHz will achieve 65KHz which is safe and
acceptable, rather than 378KHz which it would have achieved
without this change.

hwmon one, so it fits somewhat.

If a better subsystem is ever created for ADC/DAC chips, the driver

This patch implements uevent suppress in kobject and removes it
from struct device, based on the following ideas:

1,Uevent sending should be one attribute of kobject, so suppressing it
in kobject layer is more natural than in device layer. By this way,
we can do it for other objects embedded with kobject.

2,It may save several bytes for each instance of struct device.(On my
omap3(32bit ARM) based box, can save 8bytes per device object)

This patch also introduces dev_set|get_uevent_suppress() helpers to
set and query uevent_suppress attribute in case to help kobject
as private part of struct device in future.

[This version is against the latest driver-core patch set of Greg,please
ignore the last version.]

1ab082d7cb i2c-mpc: do not allow interruptions when waiting for I2C to complete
The i2c_wait() function is using wait_event_interruptible_timeout() to wait for
the I2C controller to signal that it has completed an I2C bus operation. If
the process that causes the I2C operation terminated abruptly, the wait will
be interrupted, returning an error. It is better to let the I2C operation
finished before the process exits.

It is safe to use wait_event_timeout() instead, because the timeout will allow
the process to exit if the I2C bus hangs. It's also better to allow the
I2C operation to finish, because unacknowledged I2C operations can cause the
I2C bus to hang.

cd97f39b7c i2c-dev: Clarify the unit of ioctl I2C_TIMEOUT
The unit in which user-space can set the bus timeout value is jiffies
for historical reasons (back when HZ was always 100.) This is however

Convert the apanel driver to the new i2c device driver binding model,

27d9c1838f i2c: Replace bus_id with dev_name(), dev_set_name()
This patch is part of a larger patch series which will remove
the "char bus_id[20]" name string from struct device. The device
name is managed in the kobject anyway, and without any size
limitation, and just needlessly copied into "struct device".

To set and read the device name dev_name(dev) and dev_set_name(dev)
must be used. If your code uses static kobjects, which it shouldn't
do, "const char *init_name" can be used to statically provide the
name the registered device should have. At registration time, the
init_name field is cleared, to enforce the use of dev_name(dev) to
access the device name at a later time.

We need to get rid of all occurrences of bus_id in the entire tree
to be able to enable the new interface. Please apply this patch,
and possibly convert any remaining remaining occurrences of bus_id.

We want to submit a patch to -next, which will remove bus_id from
"struct device", to find the remaining pieces to convert, and finally
switch over to the new api, which will remove the 20 bytes array
and does no longer have a size limitation.

of !readl(i2c->regs + S3C2410_IICCON) & S3C2410_IICCON_IRQEN
always being 0.

Add suspend/resume hooks to stop i2c transactions happening
until the driver has been resumed.

a804644a1a i2c-cpm: Detect and report NAK right away instead of timing out
Make the driver report an ENXIO error immediately upon NAK instead of
waiting for another interrupt and getting a timeout.

When reading from a device that is not present or declines to respond
to, e.g., a non-existent register address, CPM immediately reports a
NAK condition in the TxBD, but the driver kept waiting until a timeout,
which takes 1 second and causes an ugly console error message.

9c76b878eb i2c-omap: convert 'rev1' flag to generic 'rev' u8
i2c-omap discriminates only between "revision 1" or "greater than
revision 1." A following patch introduces code that must also
discriminate between rev2.x, rev3.6, and rev3.12 controllers. Support
this by storing the full revision data from the I2C_REV register, rather
than just a single bit.

The revision definitions may need to be extended for other ES levels
that aren't currently available here. rev3.6 is what's present on the
2430SDP here (unknown ES revision); rev3.12 is used on the 3430ES2
here.

3831f15441 i2c-omap: fix I2C timeouts due to recursive omap_i2c_{un,}idle()
omap_i2c_unidle() and omap_i2c_idle() are called recursively during
omap_i2c_probe(). This is evidently unexpected and will wipe
out the I2C interrupt enable register the second time that
omap_i2c_idle() is called consecutively. Any I2C transactions
following a probe of a bus with at least one device on it will then
time out.

Fix by moving omap_i2c_idle() further up in omap_i2c_probe(). Ensure
the I2C controller is marked as idle before the probe starts. Also
attempt to catch future reappearances of this bug early in development
by warning in omap_i2c_{un,}idle() when they are called recursively.

Problem reported by David Brownell <david-b@pacbell.net>.

Tested on 3430SDP and 2430SDP.

0cbbcffdf5 i2c-omap: Close suspected race between omap_i2c_idle() and omap_i2c_isr()
omap_i2c_idle() sets an internal flag, "dev->idle", instructing its
ISR to decline interrupts. It sets this flag before it actually masks
the interrupts on the I2C controller. This is problematic, since an
I2C interrupt could arrive after dev->idle is set, but before the
interrupt source is masked. When this happens, Linux disables the I2C
controller's IRQ, causing all future transactions on the bus to fail.

Symptoms, happening on about 7% of boots:

   irq 56: nobody cared (try booting with the "irqpoll" option)
   <warning traceback here>
   Disabling IRQ #56
   i2c_omap i2c_omap.1: controller timed out

In omap_i2c_idle(), this patch sets dev->idle only after the interrupt
mask write to the I2C controller has left the ARM write buffer.
That's probably the major offender. For additional prophylaxis, in
omap_i2c_unidle(), the patch clears the dev->idle flag before
interrupts are enabled, rather than afterwards.

The patch has survived twenty-two reboots on the 3430SDP here without
wedging I2C1. Not absolutely dispositive, but promising!
