82d6d8a403 ALSA: hda - Fix noisy outputs on Dell XPS13 (2015 model)
The new Dell XPS13 also requires the similar quirk for fixing the
noisy outputs. (But, as the codec was changed, now the fixup for
Latitude is used instead.)

8b99aba70c ALSA: hda - Fix audio crackles on Dell Latitude E7x40
We still got a report that the audio crackles and noises occur with
the recent 4.1 kernels on Dell machines. These machines seem to need
similar workarounds that have been applied to the recent Dell XPS 13
models. Since the codec of these machines (Dell Latitute E7240 and
E7440) is different from XPS 13's one, we need a new fixup entry.

Also, it was confirmed that the previous workaround to disable the
widget power-save (commit [219f47e4f9: ALSA: hda - Disable widget
power-saving for ALC292 & co]) is no longer needed after this fix.
So, this patch includes the partial revert of the commit, too.

225068ab27 ALSA: hda - Set patch_ops before calling auto-parser
... so that the parser code can overwrite some optional ops. For
Realtek and others, it can be set solely in the spec allocator, so it

With this change, we can finally remove the local stream_pm setup and

b47eee2e0a ALSA: hda - Fix lost sound due to stream_pm ops cleanup
The commit [49fb189725: ALSA: hda - Set stream_pm ops automatically
by generic parser] resulted in regressions on some Realtek and VIA
codecs because these drivers set patch_ops after calling the generic
parser, thus stream_pm got cleared to NULL again. I haven't noticed
since I tested with IDT codec.

Restore (partial revert) the stream_pm ops for them to fix the
regression.

219f47e4f9 ALSA: hda - Disable widget power-saving for ALC292 & co
We've got reports that ALC3226 (a Dell variant of ALC292) gives click
noises at transition from D3 to D0 when the widget power-saving is
enabled. Further debugging session showed that avoiding it isn't
trivial, unfortunately, since paths are basically activated
dynamically while the pins have been already enabled.

This patch disables the widget power-saving for such codecs.

3e1b0c4a9d ALSA: hda - Fix click noise at start on Dell XPS13
Dell XPS13 produces a click noise at boot up, and Gabriele spotted out
that it's triggered by the initial pin control of the mic (NID 0x19).

This patch fixes the generic parser code not to override the target

a551d91473 ALSA: hda - Use regmap for command verb caches, too
Like the previous patches, this patch converts also to the regmap, at
this time, the cached verb writes are the target. But this conversion
needs a bit more caution than before.

- In the old code, we just record any verbs as is, and restore them at
resume. For the regmap scheme, this doesn't work, since a few verbs
like AMP or DIGI_CONVERT are asymmetrical. Such verbs are converted
either to the dedicated function (snd_hda_regmap_xxx_amp()) or
  changed to the unified verb.

- Some verbs have to be declared as vendor-specific ones before
  accessing via regmap.

Also, the minor optimization with codec->cached_write flag is dropped
in a few places, as this would confuse the operation. Further
optimizations will be brought in the later patches, if any.

This conversion ends up with a drop of significant amount of codes,
mostly the helper codes that are no longer used.

eeecd9d10d ALSA: hda - Use regmap for amp accesses
This patch converts the amp access functions to the regmap helpers.
The amp values were formerly cached in the own hash table. Now it's
dropped by the regmap's cache.

The only tricky conversion is snd_hda_codec_amp_init(). This function
shouldn't do anything if the amp was already initialized. For
achieving this behavior, a value is read once at first temporarily in
the cache-only mode. Only if it returns an error, i.e. the item
still doesn't exist in the cache, it proceeds to the update.

bbbc7e8502 ALSA: hda - Allocate hda_pcm objects dynamically
So far, the hda_codec object kept the hda_pcm list in an array, and
the codec driver was expected to assign the array. However, this
makes the object life cycle management harder, because the assigned
array is freed at the codec driver detach while it might be still
accessed by the opened streams.

In this patch, we allocate each hda_pcm object dynamically and manage
it as a linked list. Each object has a kref refcount, and both the
codec driver binder and the PCM open/close touches it, so that the
object won't be freed while in use.

d8a766a16e ALSA: hda - Bind codecs via standard bus
Now we create the standard HD-audio bus (/sys/bus/hdaudio), and bind
the codec driver with the codec device over there. This is the first
step of the whole transition so that the changes to each codec driver
are kept as minimal as possible.

Each codec driver needs to register hda_codec_driver struct containing
the currently existing preset via the new helper macro
module_hda_codec_driver(). The old hda_codec_preset_list is replaced
with this infrastructure. The generic parsers (for HDMI and other)
are also included in the preset with the special IDs to bind
uniquely.

In HD-audio core side, the device binding code is split to
hda_bind.c. It provides the snd_hda_bus_type implementation to match
the codec driver with the given codec vendor ID. It also manages the
module auto-loading by itself like before: when the matching isn't
found, it tries to probe the corresponding codec modules, and finally
falls back to the generic drivers. (The special ID mentioned above is
set at this stage.)

The only visible change to outside is that the hdaudio sysfs entry now
appears in /sys/bus/devices, not as a sound class device.

More works to move the suspend/resume and remove ops will be
(hopefully) done in later patches.

ffcd28d88e ALSA: hda - Select INPUT for Realtek HD-audio codec
The commit commit [33f4acd3b2: ALSA: hda - Enable mic mute hotkey
and LEDs for an HP machine] introduced a quirk for a HP machine
involving with the input event handling. Although the relevant code
is protected via IS_ENABLED(CONFIG_INPUT), this doesn't suffice when
the audio driver is built in while the input is module.

As an easy workaround, this patch forcibly selects CONFIG_INPUT in
Kconfig. This shouldn't be a practical problem since CONFIG_INPUT is
almost mandatory for all systems. Also, this allows to remove the
ugly ifdefs in the code.

We have one more Dell machine needs DELL_WMI_MIC_MUTE_LED quirk, but
the machine uses alc293 instead of alc255. So if
DELL_WMI_MIC_MUTE_LED still chain ALC255_FIXUP_DELL1_MIC_NO_PRESENCE,
the machine can't use this quirk.

To change this situation, let the DELL_WMI_MIC_MUTE_LED to be a
standalone quirk, and let other quirks chain it.

After this change, this quirk can be chained to any existing quirks,
and as a result, it is possible that this quirk is applied to
a non-Dell machine or a Dell machine without mic mute led on it, but
it is still safe since alc_fixup_dell_wmi() will return an error in
these situations.

And remove the quirk for machine with subsystem id 0x6010 and 0x601f,

1df8874bfa ALSA: hda/realtek - Update Initial AMP for EAPD control
The default EAPD control uses verb command to control EAPD. Some codec
does not have verb command for EAPD. It needs to control by hidden
register.

This update will avoid wrong behavior for some codec. This patch will
fix double setup for EAPD. It just needs to turn on by one site for
verb command or hidden register controlled.

Detailed changes:
- alc889_coef_init() is replaced with alc_update_coef_idx() with a
  correct COEF value.
- for ALC262, ALC887 and ALC900, the EAPD setup via the hidden
register is removed because this rather conflicts with the EAPD verb
  setup.
- For ALC888-VC, also the hidden register access is removed in
  alc888_coef_init().
- Remove the dead #if 0 code for ALC267/ALC268.

1a4f69d5aa ALSA: hda - Allow multiple callbacks for jack
So far, hda_jack infrastructure allows only one callback per jack, and
this makes things slightly complicated when a driver wants to assign
multiple tasks to a jack, e.g. the standard auto-mute with a power
up/down sequence. This can be simplified if the hda_jack accepts
multiple callbacks.

This patch is such an extension: the callback-specific part (the
function and private_data) is split to another struct from
hda_jack_tbl, and multiple such objects can be assigned to a single
hda_jack_tbl entry.

The new struct hda_jack_callback is passed to each callback function
now, thus the patch became bigger than expected. But these changes
are mostly trivial.

The action value assigned to each hda_jack_tbl entry is mostly
superfluous. The actually used values are either the widget NID or a

The former case can be simply replaced by a reference to widget NID
itself. The only place doing the latter is STAC/IDT codec driver for
the powermap handling. But, the code doesn't need to check the action
field at all -- the function jack_update_power() is called either with
a specific pin or with NULL. So the check of jack->action can be
removed completely there, too.

f475371aa6 ALSA: hda - restore the gpio led after resume
On some HP laptops, the mute led is controlled by codec gpio.

When some machine resume from s3/s4, the codec gpio data will be
cleared to 0 by BIOS:
Before suspend:
  IO[3]: enable=1, dir=1, wake=0, sticky=0, data=1, unsol=0
After resume:
  IO[3]: enable=1, dir=1, wake=0, sticky=0, data=0, unsol=0

To skip the AFG node to enter D3 can't fix this problem.

A workaround is to restore the gpio data when the system resume
back from s3/s4. It is safe even on the machines without this
problem.

f3ee07d8b6 ALSA: hda/realtek - Avoid setting wrong COEF on ALC269 & co
ALC269 & co have many vendor-specific setups with COEF verbs.
However, some verbs seem specific to some codec versions and they
result in the codec stalling. Typically, such a case can be avoided
by checking the return value from reading a COEF. If the return value
is -1, it implies that the COEF is invalid, thus it shouldn't be
written.

This patch adds the invalid COEF checks in appropriate places
accessing ALC269 and its variants. The patch actually fixes the
resume problem on Acer AO725 laptop.

The Gigabyte BRIX BXBT-2707 is a mini-PC with Realtek ALC283 HDA,

that one pin is connected: a HP out jack (pin 0x21, default

The microphone input is behind pin 0x19, which has default
config 0x411111f0 (i.e. unused), so it does not show up in

415d555e6b ALSA: hda - Fix silent speaker output due to mute LED fixup
The recent fixups for HP laptops to support the mute LED made the
speaker output silent on some machines. It turned out that they use
the NID 0x18 for the speaker while it's also used for controlling the
LED via VREF bits although the current driver code blindly assumes
that such a node is a mic pin (where 0x18 is usually so).

The current code for controlling mic mute LED in patch_sigmatel.c

For fixing this problem, this patch adds kcontrol to be passed to the

We've seen often problems after suspend/resume on Acer Aspire One

e7729a4153 ALSA: hda - Fix silent output on MacBook Air 1,1
Similarly to other Apple products, MBA 1,1 needs a specific quirk.
Pin 0x18 must be set to VREF_50 to have sound output. This was no
longer done since commit 1a97b7f, resulting in a mute built-in speaker.

This patch corrects the regression by creating a fixup for the MBA 1,1.

2387083157 ALSA: hda - Apply +5dB output amp on ASUS Zenbook UX31A
ASUS Zenbook UX31A has yet another problem -- softer output level than
others. According to the measurement, the peak output difference
between 31A and 31E is 5dB. As ALC269VB has a COEF for the class-D
pre-amp, let's apply it for +5dB.

c48ae0ab37 ALSA: hda - add headset mic detect quirks for some Dell machines
When we plug a 3-ring headset on some Dell machines, the headset
mic can't be detected, after apply this patch, the headset mic
can work well on all those machines.

On the machine with the Subsytem ID 0x10280610, if we use
ALC269_FIXUP_DELL1_MIC_NO_PRESENCE, the headset mic can be
detected and work well, but the sound can't be outputed via
headphone anymore, use ALC269_FIXUP_DELL3_MIC_NO_PRESENCE
can fix this problem.

493a52a9b6 ALSA: hda - automute via amp instead of pinctl on some AIO models
On some AIO (All In One) models with the codec alc668
(Vendor ID: 0x10ec0668) on it, when we plug a headphone into the jack,
the system will switch the output to headphone and set the speaker to
automute as well as change the speaker Pin-ctls from 0x40 to 0x00,
this will bring loud noise to the headphone.

I tried to disable the corresponding EAPD, but it did not help to
eliminate the noise.

According to Takashi's suggestion, we use amp operation to replace the
pinctl modification for the automute, this really eliminate the noise.

b317b032d2 ALSA: hda - Split Thinkpad ACPI-related code
Both patch_realtek.c and patch_conexant.c contain the fairy same code
snippet for supporting Thinkpad ACPI LED controls. Split them into
thinkpad_helper.c and include it from both places. Although this
isn't the best approach from the code size POV, the probability for
coexistence of both Realtek and Conexant codecs on a single machine is
pretty low, thus it'll end up with less memory footprint than
splitting to yet another module.

b2c53e2069 ALSA: hda - Disable Front HP jack detection on Gigabyte Z87X-UD3H
This motherboard seems to have a flaky jack detection - when the
front HP is not present, the jack state quickly switches on and off.

This has been reported by three people in the bug, so I doubt it's
a user error this time.
