Since the BCM2835 datasheet doesn't exactly specify the set-up time for
the GPIO Pull-up/down Clock Registers there was an assumption of 150 cycles
at a clock rate of 1 MHz. During a discussion [1] in the Raspberry Pi forum
it turns out that clock rate refers to the VPU which has a rate of 250 MHz.
So we can reduce the delay to a sensible value and update the comment above.
I tested this optimization with a Raspberry Pi B and a multimeter.

Group index is incremented on every new group parsed. Since the
field is part of struct imx_pinctrl_soc_info, which is typically
a global variable passed by the individual pinctrl-imx.c based
driver, it does not get cleared automatically when re-probing the
driver. This lead imx_pinctrl_parse_functions passing a group
pointer which is outside of the allocated group space on second
probe and onwards. Typically this ended up in a NULL pointer
dereference when accessing the name field like this:
Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at virtual address 00000000

Since the I2C sx150x GPIO expander driver uses platform_data to manage
the pins configurations, rewrite the driver as a pinctrl driver using
pinconf to get/set pin configurations from DT or debugfs.
The pinctrl driver is functionnally equivalent as the gpio-only driver
and can use DT for pinconf. The platform_data confirmation is dropped.
This patchset removed the gpio-only driver and selects the Pinctrl driver
config instead. This patchset also migrates the gpio dt-bindings to pinctrl
and add the pinctrl optional properties.
The driver was tested with a SX1509 device on a BeagleBone black with
interrupt support and on an X86_64 machine over an I2C to USB converter.
This is a fixed version that builds and runs on non-OF platforms and on
arm based OF. The GPIO version is removed and the bindings are also moved
to the pinctrl bindings.

Dell XPS 13 (and maybe some others) uses a GPIO (CPU_GP_1) during suspend
to explicitly disable USB touchscreen interrupt. This is done to prevent
situation where the lid is closed the touchscreen is left functional.
The pinctrl driver (wrongly) assumes it owns all pins which are owned by
host and not locked down. It is perfectly fine for BIOS to use those pins
as it is also considered as host in this context.
What happens is that when the lid of Dell XPS 13 is closed, the BIOS
configures CPU_GP_1 low disabling the touchscreen interrupt. During resume
we restore all host owned pins to the known state which includes CPU_GP_1
and this overwrites what the BIOS has programmed there causing the
touchscreen to fail as no interrupts are reaching the CPU anymore.
Fix this by restoring only those pins we know are explicitly requested by
the kernel one way or other.

The SPI1 function was associated with the wrong pins: The functions that
those pins provide is either an SPI debug or passthrough function
coupled to SPI1. Make the SPI1 mux function configure the relevant pins
and associate new SPI1DEBUG and SPI1PASSTHRU functions with the pins
that were already defined.
The notation used in the datasheet's multi-function pin table for the SoC is
often creative: in this case the SYS* signals are enabled by a single bit,
which is nothing unusual on its own, but in this case the bit was also
participating in a multi-bit bitfield and therefore represented multiple
functions. This fact was overlooked in the original patch.

Consider a scenario with one pin P that has two signals A and B, where A
is defined to be higher priority than B: That is, if the mux IP is in a
state that would consider both A and B to be active on P, then A will be
the active signal.
To instead configure B as the active signal we must configure the mux so
that A is inactive. The mux state for signals can be described by
logical operations on one or more bits from one or more registers (a
"signal expression"), which in some cases leads to aliased mux states for
a particular signal. Further, signals described by multi-bit bitfields
often do not only need to record the states that would make them active
(the "enable" expressions), but also the states that makes them inactive
(the "disable" expressions). All of this combined leads to four possible
states for a signal:
1. A signal is active with respect to an "enable" expression
2. A signal is not active with respect to an "enable" expression
3. A signal is inactive with respect to a "disable" expression
4. A signal is not inactive with respect to a "disable" expression
In the case of P, if we are looking to activate B without explicitly
having configured A it's enough to consider A inactive if all of A's
"enable" signal expressions evaluate to "not active". If any evaluate to
"active" then the corresponding "disable" states must be applied so it
becomes inactive.
For example, on the AST2400 the pins composing GPIO bank H provide
signals ROMD8 through ROMD15 (high priority) and those for UART6 (low
priority). The mux states for ROMD8 through ROMD15 are aliased, i.e.
there are two mux states that result in the respective signals being
configured:
A. SCU90[6]=1
B. Strap[4,1:0]=100
Further, the second mux state is a 3-bit bitfield that explicitly
defines the enabled state but the disabled state is implicit, i.e. if
Strap[4,1:0] is not exactly "100" then ROMD8 through ROMD15 are not
considered active. This requires the mux function evaluation logic to
use approach 2. above, however the existing code was using approach 3.
The problem was brought to light on the Palmetto machines where the
strap register value is 0x120ce416, and prevented GPIO requests in bank
H from succeeding despite the hardware being in a position to allow
them.

- Do away with the last users of the obsolete Kconfig options
ARCH_REQUIRE_GPIOLIB and ARCH_WANT_OPTIONAL_GPIOLIB (the latter
always sounded like an item on a wishlist to Santa Claus to
me). We can now select GPIOLIB and be done with it, for all
archs. After some struggle it even work on UM. Not that it has
GPIO, but if it wants to, it can select the library.
- Continued efforts to make drivers properly either tristate or
bool.
- Introduce a warning for drivers assigning default triggers to
their irqchip lines when probed from device tree, so we find and
fix these ambigous drivers. It is agreed that in the OF config
path, the device tree defines trigger characteristics.
- The same warning, mutatis mutandis, for ACPI-probed GPIO
irqchips.
- We introduce the ability to mark certain IRQ lines as "unusable"
as they can be taken by BIOS/firmware, unrouted in silicon and
generally nasty if you use them, and such things. This is
put to good use in the STMPE driver and also in the Cherryview
pin control driver.
- A new "mockup" virtual GPIO device that can be used for testing.
The plan is to add unit tests under tools/* for exercising this
device and verify that the kernel code paths are working as they
should.
- Make memory-mapped I/O-drivers depend on HAS_IOMEM. This was
implicit all the time, but when people started building UM
with allyesconfig or allmodconfig it exploded in their face.
- Move some stray bits of device tree and ACPI HW description
callbacks down into their respective implementation silo. These
were causing issues when compiling on !HAS_IOMEM as well, so
now eventually UM compiles the GPIOLIB library if it wants to.
New drivers:
- New driver for the Aspeed GPIO front-end companion to the
pin controller merged through the pin control tree.
- New driver for the LP873x PMIC GPIO portions.
- New driver for Technologic Systems' I2C FPGA GPIO such as

- New driver for Diamond Systems 48 line GPIO-MM, another of
these port-mapped I/O expansion cards.
- Support the STMicroelectronics STMPE1600 variant in the STMPE

Driver improvements:
- The STMPE driver now supports rising/falling edge detection
properly for IRQs.
- The PCA954x will now fetch and enable its VCC regulator properly.
- Major rework of the PCA953x driver with the goal of eventually
switching it over to use regmap and thus modernize it even more.
- Switch the IOP driver to use the generic MMIO GPIO library.
- Move the ages old HTC EGPIO (extended GPIO) GPIO expander driver
over to this subsystem from MFD, achieveing some separation of
concerns.

Merge tag 'gpio-v4.9-1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/linusw/linux-gpio
Pull GPIO updates from Linus Walleij:
"This is the bulk of GPIO changes for the v4.9 series:
Subsystem improvements:
- do away with the last users of the obsolete Kconfig options
ARCH_REQUIRE_GPIOLIB and ARCH_WANT_OPTIONAL_GPIOLIB (the latter
always sounded like an item on a wishlist to Santa Claus to me). We
can now select GPIOLIB and be done with it, for all archs. After
some struggle it even work on UM. Not that it has GPIO, but if it
wants to, it can select the library.
- continued efforts to make drivers properly either tristate or bool.
- introduce a warning for drivers assigning default triggers to their
irqchip lines when probed from device tree, so we find and fix
these ambigous drivers. It is agreed that in the OF config path,
the device tree defines trigger characteristics.
- the same warning, mutatis mutandis, for ACPI-probed GPIO irqchips.
- we introduce the ability to mark certain IRQ lines as "unusable" as
they can be taken by BIOS/firmware, unrouted in silicon and
generally nasty if you use them, and such things. This is put to
good use in the STMPE driver and also in the Cherryview pin control
driver.
- a new "mockup" virtual GPIO device that can be used for testing.
The plan is to add unit tests under tools/* for exercising this
device and verify that the kernel code paths are working as they
should.
- make memory-mapped I/O-drivers depend on HAS_IOMEM. This was
implicit all the time, but when people started building UM with
allyesconfig or allmodconfig it exploded in their face.
- move some stray bits of device tree and ACPI HW description
callbacks down into their respective implementation silo. These
were causing issues when compiling on !HAS_IOMEM as well, so now
eventually UM compiles the GPIOLIB library if it wants to.
New drivers:
- new driver for the Aspeed GPIO front-end companion to the pin
controller merged through the pin control tree.
- new driver for the LP873x PMIC GPIO portions.
- new driver for Technologic Systems' I2C FPGA GPIO such as TS4900,
TS-7970, TS-7990 and TS-4100.
- new driver for the Broadcom BCM63xx series including BCM6338 and
BCM6345.
- new driver for the Intel WhiskeyCove PMIC GPIO.
- new driver for the Allwinner AXP209 PMIC GPIO portions.
- new driver for Diamond Systems 48 line GPIO-MM, another of these
port-mapped I/O expansion cards.
- support the STMicroelectronics STMPE1600 variant in the STMPE
driver.
- move the ages old HTC EGPIO (extended GPIO) GPIO expander driver
over to this subsystem from MFD, achieveing some separation of
concerns"

The generic GPIO library directly implement code for acpi_find_gpio()
which is only used with CONFIG_ACPI. This was probably done because
OF did the same thing, but I removed that so remove this too.
Rename the internal acpi_find_gpio() in gpiolib-acpi.c to
acpi_populate_gpio_lookup() which seems to be more appropriate anyway
so as to avoid a namespace clash with the same function.
Make the stub return -ENOENT rather than -ENOSYS (as that is for
syscalls!).
For some reason the sunxi pin control driver was including the private
gpiolib header, it works just fine without it so remove that oneliner.

On some Intel BXT platform, wake-up from suspend-to-idle on pressing
power-button is not working. Its noticed that gpio-keys driver marking the
second level IRQ/power-button as wake capable but Intel pintctrl
driver is missing to mark GPIO chip/controller IRQ which first level IRQ
as wake cable if its GPIO pin IRQ is wakeble. So, though the first level
IRQ gets generated on power-button press, since it is not marked as
wake capable resume/wake-up flow is not happening.
Intel pintctrl/GPIO driver need to mark GPIO chip/controller IRQ (first
level IRQ) as wake capable iff GPIO pin's IRQ (second level IRQ) is marked
as wake cable.

It turns out that for north and southwest communities, they can only
generate GPIO interrupts for lower 8 interrupts (IntSel value). The upper
part (8-15) can only generate GPEs (General Purpose Events).
Now the reason why EC events such as pressing hotkeys does not work if we
mask all the interrupts is that in order to generate either interrupts or
GPEs the INTMASK register must have that particular interrupt unmasked. In
case of GPEs the CPU does not trigger normal interrupt (and thus the GPIO
driver does not see it) but instead it causes SCI (System Control
Interrupt) to be triggered with the GPE in question set.
To make this all work as expected we only add those GPIOs to the IRQ domain
that can actually generate interrupts (IntSel value 0-7) and skip others.

The newly added irqchip support for the stm32 pinctrl driver uses
hierarchical IRQ domains as provided by the NVIC primary irqchip.
This works great for any configuration that may be relevant on
stm32, but when doing compile-testing (randconfig), we can
enable it without NVIC or any other primary irqchip that
enables IRQ_DOMAIN_HIERARCHY:
drivers/pinctrl/stm32/pinctrl-stm32.c:212:13: error: 'irq_chip_eoi_parent' undeclared here (not in a function)
drivers/pinctrl/stm32/pinctrl-stm32.c:213:20: error: 'irq_chip_mask_parent' undeclared here (not in a function)

drivers/pinctrl/stm32/pinctrl-stm32.c:215:20: error: 'irq_chip_set_type_parent' undeclared here (not in a function)
This adds a Kconfig dependency to limit compile-testing to
configurations that have IRQ_DOMAIN_HIERARCHY already enabled.
It's not obvious whether we should use 'depends on' or 'select'
here, I think either one works, with 'depends on' being more
intuitive, while 'select' would be less likely to cause dependency
loops.

The Aspeed SoCs typically provide more than 200 pins for GPIO and other
functions. The signal enabled on a pin is determined on a priority
basis, where a given pin can provide a number of different signal types.
In addition to the priority levels, the Aspeed pin controllers describe
the signal active on a pin by compound logical expressions involving
multiple operators, registers and bits. Some difficulty arises as a
pin's function bit masks for each priority level are frequently not the
same (i.e. we cannot just flip a bit to change from a high to low
priority signal), or even in the same register(s). Some configuration
bits affect multiple pins, while in other cases the signals for a bus
must each be enabled individually.
Together, these features give rise to some complexity in the
implementation. A more complete description of the complexities is
provided in the associated header file.
The patch doesn't implement pinctrl/pinmux/pinconf for any particular
Aspeed SoC, rather it adds the framework for defining pinmux
configurations.

The Cherryview GPIO controller has 8 or 16 wires connected to the I/O-APIC
which can be used directly by the platform/BIOS or drivers. One such wire
is used as SCI (System Control Interrupt) which ACPI depends on to be able
to trigger GPEs (General Purpose Events).
The pinctrl driver itself uses another IRQ resource which is wire OR of all
the 8 (or 16) wires and follows what BIOS has programmed to the IntSel
register of each pin.
Currently the driver masks all interrupts at probe time and this prevents
these direct interrupts from working as expected. The reason for this is
that some early stage prototypes had some pins misconfigured causing lots
of spurious interrupts.
We fix this by leaving the interrupt mask untouched. This allows SCI and
other direct interrupts work properly. What comes to the possible spurious
interrupts we switch the default handler to be handle_bad_irq() instead of
handle_simple_irq() (which was not correct anyway).

The drivers don't really need to know which PMIC they're for, so
make a generic binding for them. This alleviates us from updating
the drivers every time a new PMIC comes out. It's still
recommended that we update the binding with new PMIC models and
always specify the specific model for the MPPs and gpios before
the generic compatible string in devicetree, but this at least
cuts down on adding more and more compatible strings to the
drivers until we actually need them.

Pull GPIO updates from Linus Walleij:
"This is the bulk of GPIO changes for the v4.8 kernel cycle. The big
news is the completion of the chardev ABI which I'm very happy about
and apart from that it's an ordinary, quite busy cycle. The details
are below.
The patches are tested in linux-next for some time, patches to other
subsystem mostly have ACKs.
I got overly ambitious with configureing lines as input for IRQ lines
but it turns out that some controllers have their interrupt-enable and
input-enabling in orthogonal settings so the assumption that all IRQ
lines are input lines does not hold. Oh well, revert and back to the
drawing board with that.

This reverts commit b8c2b10a9b.
This patch was in my queue at the same time that a conversion of
the same driver from bool --> tristate was pending and merged.
That is commit 337ea0fb15 ("pinctrl: Turn AMD support to tristate")
Normally the conflict would show up in the build coverage I do,
however in this case an avoidable instance of linux/module.h in
linux/gpio/driver.h (!) causes the build failure to be masked and
instead the tristate gets built-in even for selected "=m".
In working on removing module.h from driver.h this issue was then
revealed (along with other implicit module.h assumptions in gpio,
and mfd -- which will be fixed separately.)

The iProc GPIO controller is shared among multiple iProc based SoCs.
In the NSP integration, the drive strength pinctrl function is
disabled. In the integration of Stingray, pinctrl is handled by another
block and this GPIO controller is solely used as a GPIO controller, and
therefore should not be registered to the pinconf framework
This patch introduces new SoC specific compatible strings
"brcm,iproc-nsp-gpio" for NSP with drive strength feature disabled and
"brcm,iproc-stingray-gpio" for Stingray with all PINCONF features
disabled
This patch is developed based on the initial work from Yendapally
Reddy Dhananjaya <yendapally.reddy@broadcom.com> who attempted to
disable drive strength configuration for the iProc based NSP chip. In
addition, Pramod Kumar <pramod.kumar@broadcom.com> also contributed to

Building without CONFIG_OF gives us these warnings for the broadcom

drivers/pinctrl/bcm/pinctrl-cygnus-mux.c:739:20: error: 'pinconf_generic_dt_node_to_map_group' undeclared here (not in a function)

After some digging around I found documentation (!) of the APQ8060
EBI2 pin groups. It turns out I first need to split the group in
two: ebi2cs and ebi2 proper. The chip select pins are kind of
orthogonal to the other EBI2 pins since CS1B and CS2B can be muxed
over address bits 7 and 6 (don't know why, but they can). This
is good to fix up before we add users.
Also found what the "holes" in the assignment all the way up to
gpio158 was actually for.
All mux documentation comes from "Snapdragon(TM) S3 APQ8060-based
DragonBoard(TM) GPIO User Guide Rev. E August 10, 2012", published
by Bsquare Corporation.
As the documentation seems a bit hard to come by I put some comments
in the group definitions so that it is clear to all readers what
is going on here and what the lines are used for.

Merge tag 'sh-pfc-for-v4.8-tag1' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/geert/renesas-drivers into devel
pinctrl: sh-pfc: Updates for v4.8
- Voltage switching support for R-Car H3,
- DRIF pin support for R-Car H3,
- Cleanups and fixes.
This driver adds pinctrl support for Intel Merrifield. The IP block which is
called Family-Level Interface Shim is a separate entity in SoC. The GPIO driver
(gpio-intel-mid.c) will be updated accordingly to support pinctrl interface.

The Kconfig currently controlling compilation of this code is:
drivers/pinctrl/freescale/Kconfig:config PINCTRL_MXS
drivers/pinctrl/freescale/Kconfig: bool
...meaning that it currently is not being built as a module by anyone.
It also doesn't have any modular functionality, so it doesn't need
module.h included at all.
What it does have is an exported function that was used as a shared
".remove" by other drivers, but those use cases (imx23 and imx28)
are now gone, and hence this can disappear as well.

Lets remove the modular code that is essentially orphaned, so that
when reading the driver there is no doubt it is builtin-only.
We explicitly disallow a driver unbind, since that doesn't have a
sensible use case anyway, and it allows us to drop the ".remove"
code for non-modular drivers.
Since module_init was not in use by this driver, the init ordering
remains unchanged with this commit.
Also note that MODULE_DEVICE_TABLE is a no-op for non-modular code.

The Renesas Pin Function Controller uses two header files:
- sh_pfc.h, for use by both core code and SoC-specific drivers,
- core.h, for internal use by the core code only.
Several SoC-specific drivers include core.h, as they need the sh_pfc
structure, which is passed explicitly to the various SoC-specific
callbacks, and used there.
Hence move its definition from core.h to sh_pfc.h, and remove the
inclusion of core.h from all SoC-specific files.

When pinctrl_get() is called for a device, it will return a valid handle
even if the device itself has no pinctrl state entries defined in
device-tree. This is caused by the function pinctrl_dt_to_map() which
will return success even if the first pinctrl state, 'pinctrl-0', is not
found in the device-tree node for a device.
According to the pinctrl device-tree binding documentation, pinctrl
states must be numbered starting from 0 and so 'pinctrl-0' should always
be present if a device uses pinctrl and therefore, if 'pinctrl-0' is not
present it seems valid that we should not return a valid pinctrl handle.
Fix this by returning an error code if the property 'pinctrl-0' is not
present for a device.

The handle_irq_event_* functions (and I suppose generic_handle_irq()) is
expected to be called with interrupts disabled and they rightfully complain
here because we run in thread context with interrupts enabled.
Fix this by adding IRQF_NO_THREAD flag when the master interrupt is
requested. This prevents forced threading of the interrupt used by the GPIO
host controllers.

The reason why this happens is because intel_gpio_irq_ack() is called with
desc->lock raw_spinlock locked which cannot sleep but our normal spinlock
(which is converted to rtmutex in -rt) is allowed to sleep. This causes
might_sleep() to trigger.
Fix this by converting the normal spinlock to a raw_spinlock.

Currently, the UniPhier pinctrl driver itself is a syscon, but it
turned out much more reasonable to make it a child node of a syscon
because our syscon node consists of a bunch of system configuration
registers, not only pinctrl, but also phy, and misc registers.
It is difficult to split the node.
To allow to migrate to the new DT structure, this commit adds new
compatible strings to not disturb the existing DT. After a while,

PH1-LD4 and PH1-sLD8 SoCs have pins that support pin configuration
(pin biasing, drive strength control), but not pin-muxing.
Allow to fill the mux value table with -1 for those pins; pins with
mux value -1 will be skipped in the pin-mux set function. The mux
value type should be changed from "unsigned" to "int" in order to
accommodate -1 as a special case.

The core part of the UniPhier pinctrl driver needs to support a new
capability for upcoming UniPhier ARMv8 SoCs. This sometimes happens
because pinctrl drivers include really SoC-specific stuff.
This commit intends to tidy up SoC-specific parameters of the existing
drivers before adding the new one. Having just one flag would be
better than adding a new struct member every time a new SoC-specific
capability comes up.
At this time, there is one flag, UNIPHIER_PINCTRL_CAPS_DBGMUX_SEPARATE.
This capability (I'd say rather quirk) was added for PH1-Pro4 and
PH1-Pro5 as requirement from a customer. For those SoCs, one pin-mux
setting is controlled by the combination of two separate registers; the
LSB bits at register offset (8 * N) and the MSB bits at (8 * N + 4).
Because it is impossible to update two separate registers atomically,
the LOAD_PINCTRL register should be set in order to make the pin-mux
settings really effective.

Unfortunately, the pin number of the new SoC, PH1-LD11, is not

The new ARMv8 SoC, PH1-LD20, supports more fine-grained drive
strength control. Some of the configuration registers on it have
3-bit width.
The feature will be supported in the next commit, but a problem is
that macro names are getting longer and longer in the current naming
scheme.
Before moving forward, this commit renames macros as follows:
UNIPHIER_PIN_DRV_4_8 -> UNIPHIER_PIN_DRV_1BIT
UNIPHIER_PIN_DRV_8_12_16_20 -> UNIPHIER_PIN_DRV_2BIT
UNIPHIER_PIN_DRV_FIXED_4 -> UNIPHIER_PIN_DRV_FIXED4
UNIPHIER_PIN_DRV_FIXED_5 -> UNIPHIER_PIN_DRV_FIXED5
UNIPHIER_PIN_DRV_FIXED_8 -> UNIPHIER_PIN_DRV_FIXED8

Currently, every SoC driver defines struct pinctrl_desc statically,
i.e. it consumes memory footprint even if it is not probed.
In multi-platform, many pinctrl drivers are linked (generally as
built-in objects), although only one of them is actually used.
So, it is reasonable to allocate memory dynamically where possible.

Every SoC driver sets the same name for struct pinctrl_desc and
platform_driver. The common probe function can set desc->name
instead of duplicating strings in each SoC driver.

To i.MX7D, there are two iomux controllers, iomuxc and iomuxc_lpsr.
They should not share one pin controller descriptor, otherwise
the value filled into imx_pinctrl_desc when probing the first
iomux controller will be overridden when probing the second one.
In this patch, discard the static allcoated imx_pinctrl_desc and
switch to dynamically allcate pin controller descriptor for each
iomux controller.

Currently, struct pinctrl_pin_desc can have per-pin driver private
data, but it is not copied to struct pin_desc.
For a driver with sparse pin space, for-loop search like below would
be necessary in order to get the driver-specific data for a desired
pin number.
for (i = 0; i < pctldev->desc->npins; i++)
if (pin_number == pctldev->desc->pins[i].number)
return pctldev->desc->pins[i].drv_data;
This is not efficient for a driver with a large number of pins.
So, copy the data to struct pin_desc when each pin is registered
for the faster radix tree lookup.

Although unbinding a pinctrl driver requires root privileges but it
still might be used theoretically in certain attacks (by triggering NULL
pointer exception or memory corruption).
Samsung pincontrol drivers are essential for system operation so their
removal is not expected. They do not implement remove() driver callback
and they are not buildable as modules.
Suppression of the unbinding will prevent triggering NULL pointer
exception like this (Odroid XU3):

$ cat /sys/kernel/debug/gpio

Driver updates for ARM SoCs, these contain various things that touch
the drivers/ directory but got merged through arm-soc for practical
reasons. For the most part, this is now related to power management
controllers, which have not yet been abstracted into a separate

- Support for natively single-ended GPIO driver stages. This
means that if the hardware has registers to configure open
drain or open source configuration, we use that rather than
(as we did before) try to emulate it by switching the line
to an input to get high impedance. This is also documented
throughly in Documentation/gpio/driver.txt for those of you
who did not understand one word of what I just wrote.
- Start to do away with the unnecessarily complex and
unitelligible ARCH_REQUIRE_GPIOLIB and
ARCH_WANT_OPTIONAL_GPIOLIB, another evolutional artifact from
the time when the GPIO subsystem was unmaintained. Archs can
now just select GPIOLIB and be done with it, cleanups to
arches will trickle in for the next kernel. Some minor archs
ACKed the changes immediately so these are included in this
pull request.
- Advancing the use of the data pointer inside the GPIO device
for storing driver data by switching the PowerPC, Super-H
Unicore and a few other subarches or subsystem drivers in
ALSA SoC, Input, serial, SSB, staging etc to use it.
- The initialization now reads the input/output state of the
GPIO lines, so that each GPIO descriptor knows - if this
callback is implemented - whether the line is input or
output. This also reflects nicely in userspace "lsgpio".
- It is now possible to name GPIO producer names, line names,
from the device tree. (Platform data has been supported for
a while.) I bet we will get a similar mechanism for ACPI
one of those days. This makes is possible to get sensible
producer names for e.g. GPIO rails in "lsgpio" in userspace.

- The IT87 driver now supports IT8620 and IT8628.
- The PCA953X driver now supports Galileo Gen2.
Driver improvements:
- MCP23S08 was switched to use the gpiolib irqchip helpers and
now also suppors level-triggered interrupts.
- 74x164 and RCAR now supports the .set_multiple() callback
- AMDPT was converted to use generic GPIO.

support the new single ended callback for open drain
and in some cases open source.
- Implement the .get_direction() callback for a few more drivers
like PL061, Xgene.
Cleanups:
- Paul Gortmaker combed through the drivers and de-modularized
those who are not really modules.
- Move the GPIO poweroff DT bindings to the power subdir where
they belong.
- Rename gpio-generic.c to gpio-mmio.c, which is much more to the
point. That's what it is handling, nothing more, nothing less.
