"Notable highlights:
- iommu improvements from Anton removing the per-iommu global lock in
favor of dividing the DMA space into pools, each with its own lock,
and hashed on the CPU number. Along with making the locking more
fine grained, this gives significant improvements in multiqueue
networking scalability.
- Still from Anton, we know provide a vdso based variant of getcpu
which makes sched_getcpu with the appropriate glibc patch something
like 18 times faster.
- More anton goodness (he's been busy !) in other areas such as a
faster __clear_user and copy_page on P7, various perf fixes to
improve sampling quality, etc...
- One more step toward removing legacy i2c interfaces by using new
device-tree based probing of platform devices for the AOA audio
drivers
- A nice series of patches from Michael Neuling that helps avoiding
confusion between register numbers and litterals in assembly code,
trying to enforce the use of "%rN" register names in gas rather
than plain numbers.
- A pile of FSL updates
- The usual bunch of small fixes, cleanups etc...
You may spot a change to drivers/char/mem. The patch got no comment
or ack from outside, it's a trivial patch to allow the architecture to
skip creating /dev/port, which we use to disable it on ppc64 that
don't have a legacy brige. On those, IO ports 0...64K are not mapped
in kernel space at all, so accesses to /dev/port cause oopses (and
yes, distros -still- ship userspace that bangs hard coded ports such
as kbdrate)."

This adds support for three new SoC types:
* The mvebu platform includes Marvell's Armada XP and Armada 370 chips,
made by the mvebu business unit inside of Marvell. Since the same
group also made the older but similar platforms we call "orion5x",
"kirkwood", "mv78xx0" and "dove", we plan to move all of them into
the mach-mvebu directory in the future.
* socfpga is Altera's platform based on Cortex-A9 cores and a lot of
FPGA space. This is similar to the Xilinx zynq platform we already
support. The code is particularly clean, which is helped by the fact
that the hardware doesn't do much besides the parts that are
expected to get added in the FPGA.
* The OMAP subarchitecture gains support for the latest generation,
the OMAP5 based on the new Cortex-A15 core. Support is rather
rudimentary for now, but will be extended in the future.

This branch contains two kinds of updates: Some platforms in the process
of getting converted to device tree based booting, and the platform
specific patches necessary for that are included here. Other platforms
are already converted, so we just need to update the actual device
tree source files and the binding documents to add support for new board
and new drivers.
In the future we will probably separate those into two branches, and
in the long run, the plan is to move the device tree source files out
of the kernel repository, but that has to wait until we have completed
a much larger portion of the binding documents.

Pull the big VFS changes from Al Viro:
"This one is *big* and changes quite a few things around VFS. What's in there:
- the first of two really major architecture changes - death to open
intents.
The former is finally there; it was very long in making, but with
Miklos getting through really hard and messy final push in
fs/namei.c, we finally have it. Unlike his variant, this one
doesn't introduce struct opendata; what we have instead is
->atomic_open() taking preallocated struct file * and passing
everything via its fields.
Instead of returning struct file *, it returns -E... on error, 0
on success and 1 in "deal with it yourself" case (e.g. symlink
found on server, etc.).
See comments before fs/namei.c:atomic_open(). That made a lot of
goodies finally possible and quite a few are in that pile:
->lookup(), ->d_revalidate() and ->create() do not get struct
nameidata * anymore; ->lookup() and ->d_revalidate() get lookup
flags instead, ->create() gets "do we want it exclusive" flag.
With the introduction of new helper (kern_path_locked()) we are rid
of all struct nameidata instances outside of fs/namei.c; it's still
visible in namei.h, but not for long. Come the next cycle,
declaration will move either to fs/internal.h or to fs/namei.c
itself. [me, miklos, hch]
- The second major change: behaviour of final fput(). Now we have
__fput() done without any locks held by caller *and* not from deep
in call stack.
That obviously lifts a lot of constraints on the locking in there.
Moreover, it's legal now to call fput() from atomic contexts (which
has immediately simplified life for aio.c). We also don't need
anti-recursion logics in __scm_destroy() anymore.
There is a price, though - the damn thing has become partially
asynchronous. For fput() from normal process we are guaranteed
that pending __fput() will be done before the caller returns to
userland, exits or gets stopped for ptrace.
For kernel threads and atomic contexts it's done via
schedule_work(), so theoretically we might need a way to make sure
it's finished; so far only one such place had been found, but there
might be more.
There's flush_delayed_fput() (do all pending __fput()) and there's
__fput_sync() (fput() analog doing __fput() immediately). I hope
we won't need them often; see warnings in fs/file_table.c for
details. [me, based on task_work series from Oleg merged last
cycle]
- sync series from Jan
- large part of "death to sync_supers()" work from Artem; the only
bits missing here are exofs and ext4 ones. As far as I understand,
those are going via the exofs and ext4 trees resp.; once they are
in, we can put ->write_super() to the rest, along with the thread
calling it.
- preparatory bits from unionmount series (from dhowells).
- assorted cleanups and fixes all over the place, as usual.
This is not the last pile for this cycle; there's at least jlayton's
ESTALE work and fsfreeze series (the latter - in dire need of fixes,
so I'm not sure it'll make the cut this cycle). I'll probably throw
symlink/hardlink restrictions stuff from Kees into the next pile, too.
Plus there's a lot of misc patches I hadn't thrown into that one -
it's large enough as it is..."

In hibernation mode only the wakeup logic and the RTC are left running,
so this is what users perceive as power down.
If the counters are not initialized, the corresponding pin (typically
connected to the power button) has to be asserted for two seconds
before the device wakes up. Most users expect a shorter wakeup time.
I took the timing values of 100 ms and 60 ms from BouKiCHi's patch for
the Dingoo A320 kernel.

We can save the 451 lines of code that comprise memcpy-inatomic.S at the
expense of a single instruction in the memcpy prolog. We also use an
additional register (t6), so this may cause increased register pressure in
some places as well. But I think the reduced maintenance burden, of not
having two nearly identical implementations, makes it worth it.

Switch to using the device tree to register serial ports.
Add all the ports with compatible = "cavium,octeon-3860-uart". Octeon serial
ports have their own device type, required port flags, and I/O
functions, so using of_serial.c is not indicated.
We need to do this as late_initcall, as the 8250 driver must be
initialized before we add any ports. 8250 initialization is done at
device_initcall time.

There are three parts to this:
1) Remove the definitions of OCTEON_IRQ_TWSI and OCTEON_IRQ_TWSI2.
The interrupts are specified by the device tree and these hard
coded irq numbers block the used of the irq lines by the irq_domain
code.
2) Remove platform device setup code from octeon-platform.c, it is
now unused.
3) Convert i2c-octeon.c to use device tree. Part of this includes
using the devm_* functions instead of the raw counterparts, thus
simplifying error handling. No functionality is changed.

The two device tree files octeon_3xxx.dts and octeon_68xx.dts are
trimmed by code in a subsequent patch to reflect the hardware actually
present on the board. To this end several properties that are not
part of the declared bindings are added to aid in trimming off
unwanted nodes. Since the device tree and the code that trims it are
bound into the kernel binary, these 'marker' properties never escape
into the wild, and are purely an implementation detail of the kernel
early boot process. This is done for backwards compatibility with
existing boards (identified by a board type enumeration value by their
bootloaders). New boards will always pass a device tree from the
bootloader, the built-in trees are ignored in this case.

The current mpic code creates a linear revmap just big enough for all
the sources, which happens to miss the IPIs and timers on some machines.
This will in turn break when the irqdomain code loses the fallback of
doing a linear search when the revmap fails (and really slows down IPIs
otherwise).
This happens for example on the U4 based Apple machines such as the
dual core PowerMac G5s.

The BAU (Broadcast Assist Unit) is SGI's fancy out of line way on UV
hardware to do TLB flushes, instead of the normal APIC IPI methods.
The commits here fix / work around hangs in their latest hardware
iteration (UV2).
My understanding is that the main purpose of the out of line
signalling channel is to improve scalability: the UV APIC hardware
glue does not handle broadcasting to many CPUs very well, and this
matters most for TLB shootdowns.
[ I don't agree with all aspects of the current approach: in hindsight
it would have been better to link the BAU at the IPI/APIC driver
level instead of the TLB shootdown level, where TLB flushes are
really just one of the uses of broadcast SMP messages. Doing that
would improve scalability in some other ways and it would also
remove a few uglies from the TLB path. It would also be nice to
push more is_uv_system() tests into proper x86_init or x86_platform

This commit is subtly buggy: kstrto*int() can return an error but

could not fail, so this patch subtly intruduces new failure modes.

As things currently stand, traditional EFI boot loaders and the EFI
boot stub are carrying essentially the same initialisation code
required to setup an EFI machine for booting a kernel. There's really
no need to have this code in two places and the hope is that, with
this new protocol, initialisation and booting of the kernel can be
left solely to the kernel's EFI boot stub. The responsibilities of the
boot loader then become,
o Loading the kernel image from boot media
File system code still needs to be carried by boot loaders for the
scenario where the kernel and initrd files reside on a file system
that the EFI firmware doesn't natively understand, such as ext4, etc.
o Providing a user interface
Boot loaders still need to display any menus/interfaces, for example
to allow the user to select from a list of kernels.
Bump the boot protocol number because we added the 'handover_offset'
field to indicate the location of the handover protocol entry point.

When more than 1 source id is in use for the same GSI, we have the
following race related to handling irq_states race:
CPU 0 clears bit 0. CPU 0 read irq_state as 0. CPU 1 sets level to 1.
CPU 1 calls kvm_ioapic_set_irq(1). CPU 0 calls kvm_ioapic_set_irq(0).
Now ioapic thinks the level is 0 but irq_state is not 0.
Fix by performing all irq_states bitmap handling under pic/ioapic lock.

that is aliased to a function (for runtime generated code) to
assembler code. This avoids an issue with certain toolchains when
building for microMIPS."

The current virtual timer interface is inherently per-cpu and hard to
use. The sole user of the interface is appldata which uses it to execute
a function after a specific amount of cputime has been used over all cpus.
Rework the virtual timer interface to hook into the cputime accounting.
This makes the interface independent from the CPU timer interrupts, and
makes the virtual timers global as opposed to per-cpu.
Overall the code is greatly simplified. The downside is that the accuracy
is not as good as the original implementation, but it is still good enough
for appldata.

Remove the file name from the comment at top of many files. In most
cases the file name was wrong anyway, so it's rather pointless.
Also unify the IBM copyright statement. We did have a lot of sightly
different statements and wanted to change them one after another
whenever a file gets touched. However that never happened. Instead
people start to take the old/"wrong" statements to use as a template
for new files.
So unify all of them in one go.

Currently kexec in a PVonHVM guest fails with a triple fault because the
new kernel overwrites the shared info page. The exact failure depends on
the size of the kernel image. This patch moves the pfn from RAM into
MMIO space before the kexec boot.
The pfn containing the shared_info is located somewhere in RAM. This
will cause trouble if the current kernel is doing a kexec boot into a
new kernel. The new kernel (and its startup code) can not know where the
pfn is, so it can not reserve the page. The hypervisor will continue to
update the pfn, and as a result memory corruption occours in the new
kernel.
One way to work around this issue is to allocate a page in the
xen-platform pci device's BAR memory range. But pci init is done very
late and the shared_info page is already in use very early to read the
pvclock. So moving the pfn from RAM to MMIO is racy because some code
paths on other vcpus could access the pfn during the small window when
the old pfn is moved to the new pfn. There is even a small window were
the old pfn is not backed by a mfn, and during that time all reads
return -1.
Because it is not known upfront where the MMIO region is located it can
not be used right from the start in xen_hvm_init_shared_info.
To minimise trouble the move of the pfn is done shortly before kexec.
This does not eliminate the race because all vcpus are still online when
the syscore_ops will be called. But hopefully there is no work pending
at this point in time. Also the syscore_op is run last which reduces the
risk further.

When switching tasks in a Xen PV guest, avoid updating the TLS
descriptors if they haven't changed. This improves the speed of
context switches by almost 10% as much of the time the descriptors are
the same or only one is different.
The descriptors written into the GDT by Xen are modified from the
values passed in the update_descriptor hypercall so we keep shadow
copies of the three TLS descriptors to compare against.

When constructing the initial page tables, if the MFN for a usable PFN
is missing in the p2m then that frame is initially ballooned out. In
this case, zero the PTE (as in decrease_reservation() in

This is obviously safe instead of having an valid PTE with an MFN of
INVALID_P2M_ENTRY (~0).

In xen_set_pte() if batching is unavailable (because the caller is in
an interrupt context such as handling a page fault) it would fall back
to using native_set_pte() and trapping and emulating the PTE write.
On 32-bit guests this requires two traps for each PTE write (one for
each dword of the PTE). Instead, do one mmu_update hypercall
directly.
During construction of the initial page tables, continue to use
native_set_pte() because most of the PTEs being set are in writable
and unpinned pages (see phys_pmd_init() in arch/x86/mm/init_64.c) and
using a hypercall for this is very expensive.
This significantly improves page fault performance in 32-bit PV
guests.

there are 3 funcs which need to be _initcalled in a logic sequence:
1. xen_late_init_mcelog
2. mcheck_init_device
3. threshold_init_device
xen_late_init_mcelog must register xen_mce_chrdev_device before
native mce_chrdev_device registration if running under xen platform;
mcheck_init_device should be inited before threshold_init_device to
initialize mce_device, otherwise a a NULL ptr dereference will cause panic.
so we use following _initcalls
1. device_initcall(xen_late_init_mcelog);
2. device_initcall_sync(mcheck_init_device);
3. late_initcall(threshold_init_device);
when running under xen, the initcall order is 1,2,3;
on baremetal, we skip 1 and we do only 2 and 3.

When MCA error occurs, it would be handled by Xen hypervisor first,
and then the error information would be sent to initial domain for logging.
This patch gets error information from Xen hypervisor and convert
Xen format error into Linux format mcelog. This logic is basically
self-contained, not touching other kernel components.
By using tools like mcelog tool users could read specific error information,
like what they did under native Linux.

However it is possible to remove the PCI bus at run time and have it

the fixups again.

ASoC: Updates for 3.6
This has been a pretty quiet release - very little activity in framework
terms, mostly just a few new drivers and updates:
- Added the ability to add and remove DAPM paths dynamically, mostly for
reparenting on clock changes.
- New machine drivers for Marvell Brownstone, ST-Ericsson Ux500
reference platform and ttc-dkp.
- New CPU drivers for Blackfin BF6xx SPORTs in I2S mode, Marvell MMP,
Synopsis Designware I2S controllers, and SPEAr DMA and S/PDIF
- New CODEC drivers for Dialog DA732x, ST STA529, ST-Ericsson AB8500, TI
Isabelle and Wolfson Microelectronics WM5102 and WM5110
On Origen board, we have 2 status leds, so adding them as heartbeat and
mmc0 by default. The patch basically adds the platform data required by
leds-gpio driver.

With the greater use of deferred probes we need to be more sure that
initdata is actually used only at system init rather than being used
by devices when they probe (which could happen after the main kernel
init has completed and is much more likely to now).

The core priority PIC code uses legacy irq support to facilitate direct
mapping of core hw interrupt numbers to linux interrupt numbers. This
patch removes the legacy irq usage and replaces it with a generic linear
mapping.
Signed-off-by: Mark Salter <msalter@redhat.com>
The megamodule PIC cascades a number of interrupt sources into the core
priority PIC. The megamodule code depends on the core hardware interrupt
numbers being mapped one-to-one with regard to linux interrupt numbers.
This patch removes that dependence in order to pave the way for removing
the direct mapping in the core PIC code.

The tilegx USB OHCI support needs the bounce pool since we're not
using the IOMMU to handle 32-bit addresses.
Signed-off-by: Chris Metcalf <cmetcalf@tilera.com>
This change adds support for accessing the USB shim from within the
kernel. Note that this change by itself does not allow the kernel
to act as a host or as a device; it merely exposes the built-in on-chip
hardware to the kernel.
The <arch/usb_host.h> and <arch/usb_host_def.h> headers are empty at
the moment because the kernel does not require any types or definitions
specific to the tilegx USB shim; the generic USB core code is all we need.
The headers are left in as stubs so that we don't need to modify the
hypervisor header (drv_usb_host_intf.h) from upstream.
Signed-off-by: Chris Metcalf <cmetcalf@tilera.com>
This change uses the TRIO IOMMU to map the PCI DMA space and physical
memory at different addresses. We also now use the dma_mapping_ops
to provide support for non-PCI DMA, PCIe DMA (64-bit) and legacy PCI
DMA (32-bit). We use the kernel's software I/O TLB framework
(i.e. bounce buffers) for the legacy 32-bit PCI device support since
there are a limited number of TLB entries in the IOMMU and it is
non-trivial to handle indexing, searching, matching, etc. For 32-bit
devices the performance impact of bounce buffers should not be a concern.
Signed-off-by: Chris Metcalf <cmetcalf@tilera.com>
This is required for PCI root complex legacy support and USB OHCI root
complex support. With this change tilegx now supports allocating memory
whose PA fits in 32 bits.
Signed-off-by: Chris Metcalf <cmetcalf@tilera.com>
The tilegx PCI root complex support (currently only in linux-next)
is limited to pages that are homed on cached in the default manner,
i.e. "hash-for-home". This change supports delivery of I/O data to
pages that are cached in other ways (locally on a particular core,
uncached, user-managed incoherent, etc.).
A large part of the change is supporting flushing pages from cache
on particular homes so that we can transition the data that we are
delivering to or from the device appropriately. The new homecache_finv*
routines handle this.
Some changes to page_table_range_init() were also required to make
the fixmap code work correctly on tilegx; it hadn't been used there
before.
We also remove some stub mark_caches_evicted_*() routines that
were just no-ops anyway.

Nothing includes memprof.h. Nothing uses the macros it defines. It seems
it is just a remnant of the proposed memprof functionality, which got
dropped before the Tilera architecture got added to the tree. This
header can safely be removed.

These are arriving very late in the release cycle, but there has been
a change of maintainers on the SPEAr platform and they have needed a
while to get going.
The patch count is higher than I would like at this point, but they're
all relevant fixes and well-contained in their own platform code. I still
think it's suitable 3.5 material and I don't think it should increase
the need for a -rc8 since they are so contained.

The s390 idle accounting code uses a sequence counter which gets used
when the per cpu idle statistics get updated and read.
One assumption on read access is that only when the sequence counter is
even and did not change while reading all values the result is valid.
On cpu hotplug however the per cpu data structure gets initialized via
a cpu hotplug notifier on CPU_ONLINE.
CPU_ONLINE however is too late, since the onlined cpu is already running
and might access the per cpu data. Worst case is that the data structure
gets initialized while an idle thread is updating its idle statistics.
This will result in an uneven sequence counter after an update.
As a result user space tools like top, which access /proc/stat in order
to get idle stats, will busy loop waiting for the sequence counter to
become even again, which will never happen until the queried cpu will
update its idle statistics again. And even then the sequence counter
will only have an even value for a couple of cpu cycles.
Fix this by moving the initialization of the per cpu idle statistics
to cpu_init(). I prefer that solution in favor of changing the
notifier to CPU_UP_PREPARE, which would be a different solution to
the problem.

Add support for the Coldfire 5441x (54410/54415/54416/54417/54418). Currently
we only support noMMU mode. It requires the PIT patch posted previously as it
uses the PIT instead of the dma timer as a clock source so we can get all that
GENERIC_CLOCKEVENTS goodness. It also adds some simple clk definitions and
very simple minded power management. The gpio code is tweeked and some
additional devices are added to devices.c. The Makefile uses -mv4e as
apparently, the only difference a v4m (m5441x) and a v4e is the later has a
FPU, which I don't think should matter to us in the kernel.

If we're not connecting external GPIO extenders via i2c or spi or whatever, we
probably don't need GPIOLIB. If we provide an alternate implementation of
the GPIOLIB functions to use when only on-chip GPIO is needed, we can change
ARCH_REQUIRE_GPIOLIB to ARCH_WANTS_OPTIONAL_GPIOLIB so that GPIOLIB becomes
optional.
The downside is that in the GPIOLIB=n case, we lose all error checking done by
gpiolib, ie multiply allocating the gpio, free'ing gpio etc., so that the
only checking that can be done is if we reference a gpio on an external part.
Targets that need the extra error checking can still select GPIOLIB=y.
For the case where GPIOLIB=y, we can simplify the table of gpio chips to use a
single chip, eliminating the tables of chips in the 5xxx.c files. The
original motivation for the definition of multiple chips was to match the way
many of the Coldfire variants defined their gpio as a spare array in memory.
However, all this really gains us is some error checking when we request a
gpio, gpiolib can check that it doesn't fall in one of the holes. If thats
important, I think we can still come up with a better way of accomplishing
that.
Also in this patch is some general cleanup and reorganizing of the gpio header
files (I'm sure I must have had a reason why I sometimes used a prefix of
mcf_gpio and other times mcfgpio but for the life of me I can't think of it
now).

program policy when executing time, gettimeofday, or getcpu. This is
only the case when vsyscall emulation is in use (vsyscall=emulate is the
default).
This patch emulates system call entry inside a vsyscall=emulate by
populating regs->ax and regs->orig_ax with the system call number prior
to calling into seccomp such that all seccomp-dependencies function
normally. Additionally, system call return behavior is emulated in line
with other vsyscall entrypoints for the trace/trap cases.
[ v2: fixed ip and sp on SECCOMP_RET_TRAP/TRACE (thanks to luto@mit.edu) ]
