gfar_clean_rx_ring() was designed to be called from napi
(rx softirq) context to do the Rx processing. Calling it
from a process context like this is a bug as it will
clearly race with the napi Rx processing.
There's also no point in initializing num_txbdfree since
startup_gfar() already does that, when bringing the device
up again (after reset). Changing num_txbdfree "on-the-fly"
like this is also subject to race conditions. num_txbdfree
is handled by the Tx processing path and the device reset
procedure. Also, don't assume that num_rx_queues is always
equal to num_tx_queues.

gfar_halt() and gfar_start() are responsible for stopping
and starting the DMA and the Rx/Tx hw rings. They implement
the support for the "graceful Rx/Tx stop/start" hw procedure,
and also disable/enable eTSEC's hw interrupts in the process.
The GRS/GTS procedure requires however to have the RQUEUE/TQUEUE
registers cleared first and to wait for a period of time for the
current frame to pass through the interface (around ~10ms for a
jumbo frame). Only then may the GTS and GRS bits from DMACTRL be
set to shut down the DMA, and finally the Tx_EN and Rx_EN bits in
MACCFG1 may be cleared to disable the Tx/Rx blocks.
The same register programming order applies to start the Rx/Tx:
enabling the RQUEUE/TQUEUE *before* clearing the GRS/GTS bits.
This is a HW recommendation in order to avoid a possible
controller "lock up" during graceful reset.
Cleanup the gfar_halt()/start() prototypes, to take priv instead
of ndev as their purpose is to operate on HW. Enabling the
RQUEUE/TQUEUE in the hw_init() is not needed anymore since
that's the job of gfar_start().

Throughout the code there are places where the controller's
hw interrupt sources need to get disabled/enabled (masked/
un-masked) all at once. The recommendation for disabling
the interrupts is to clear the ievent first then the imask
register (not the other way around).
Use the gfar_ints_enable/disable() helpers to make these
operations consistent.

The RCTRL updates of the FSL_GIANFAR_DEV_HAS_PADDING device
flag get overriden by the FSL_GIANFAR_DEV_HAS_TIMER flag
settings, which impose a Rx padding alignment of 8 bytes.
As all the eTSEC devices that set HAS_PADDING also set the
HAS_TIMER flag, the HAS_PADDING flag is now obsolete.

Removing the sysfs stubs for the Tx FIFOCFG and ATTRELI
(stashing) config registers, as these registers may only
be configured after a MAC reset, with the controller stopped
(i.e. during hw init, at probe() time). The current sysfs
stubs allow on-the-fly updates of these registers (the locking
measures are useless and only add unecessary code).
Changing these registers is discouraged. Only the default values
will be used instead.
Moreover, the stashing (ATTRELI) configuration options were
effectively disabled (didn't get to the hw anyway if changed)
because the stashing device_flags (HAS_BD_STASHING|HAS_BUF_STASHING)
were "accidentally" cleared during probe().

Factor out gfar_hw_init() to contain all the controller hw
initialization steps for a better control of register writes,
and to significantly simplify the tangled code from gfar_probe().
This results in code size and stack usage reduction (besides
code readability).
Fix memory leak on device removal, by freeing the rx_/tx_queue
structures.
Replace custom bit swapping function with a library one (bitrev8).
Move allocation of rx_/tx_queue struct arrays before the group
structure init, because in order to assign Rx/Tx queues
to groups we need to have the queues first. This also allows
earlier bail out of gfar_probe(), in case the memory allocation
fails.
The flow control checks for maccfg1 were removed from gfar_probe(),
since flow control is disabled at probe time (priv->rx_/tx_pause_en
are 0). Redundant initializations (by 0) also removed.

Add a new argument for ndo_select_queue() callback that passes a
fallback handler. This gets invoked through netdev_pick_tx();
fallback handler is currently __netdev_pick_tx() as most drivers
invoke this function within their customized implementation in
case for skbs that don't need any special handling. This fallback
handler can then be replaced on other call-sites with different
queue selection methods (e.g. in packet sockets, pktgen etc).
This also has the nice side-effect that __netdev_pick_tx() is
then only invoked from netdev_pick_tx() and export of that
function to modules can be undone.

This method has been deprecated by the Skyhawk-R FW. Instead,
GET_PROFILE_CONFIG::port-desc must be used to query this configuration.
This patch also:

configs
2) re-factors the be_cmd_set_profile_config() code to be able to read any kind
of desc (and not just the nic-desc.)

Respond better to a VF reset event. When a reset is signaled by the
PF, or detected by the watchdog task, prevent the watchdog from
processing admin queue requests, and schedule the reset task.
In the reset task, wait first for the reset to start, then for it to
complete, then reinit the driver.
If the reset never appears to complete after a long, long time (>10
seconds is possible depending on what's going on with the PF driver),
then set a flag to indicate that PF communications have failed.
If this flag is set, check for the reset to complete in the watchdog,
and attempt to do a full reinitialization of the driver from scratch.
With these changes the VF driver correctly handles a PF reset event
while running on bare metal, or in a VM.

As pointed out by Dan Carpenter (from Oracle), the flags variable is
declared as a 64-bit long but all of the flags are defined as u32,

as u32 (since we don't need any more than about a dozen flags right
now), and remove the volatile qualifier, since it's unnecessary and
just makes checkpatch cry.

This new firmware fixes following bugs:
1. HW attention appears and traffic stops when iSCSI firmware tries to
retransmit iSCSI login command when the iSCSI login is carrying data
not aligned to 4-bytes.
2. FCoE traffic fails to run when running in switch-independent multi-function
mode and there's more than one interface supporting FCoE on a given port.
3. While two ports are running FCoE with at least one of them has a function
number (>1) on the same engine in a 4-port device a zeroed CQE is given,
causing FCoE traffic to stop.

There is substantial latency in generation and handling of PPS events
from the NIC, which we have to correct for before passing a host
timestamp to the PPS subsystem. We compare clocks with the MC,
giving us two offsets to subtract from the timestamp generated by
pps_get_ts():
(a) Time from the last good sync (where we got host and NIC timestamps
for nearly the same instant) to the time we called pps_get_ts()
(b) Time from NIC top of second to the last good sync
We currently calculate (a) + (b) in a quite confusing way.
Instead, calculate (a) completely, then add (b) to it.

bnx2x driver uses incorrect PF identifier to configure (in HW) the VF
interrupt scheme; As a result, in multi-function mode the configuration
for PFs with a high index (4+) will overflow and the PF will erroneously
configure a single ISR scheme for its VFs.
As a result, if such a VF uses multiple queues, interrupt generation will
stop after VF receives an Rx packet or sends a Tx packet on a queue
other than queue[0].

Quoting David Vrabel -
"5780 cards cannot have jumbo frames and TSO enabled together. When
jumbo frames are enabled by setting the MTU, the TSO feature must be
cleared. This is done indirectly by calling netdev_update_features()
which will call tg3_fix_features() to actually clear the flags.
netdev_update_features() will also trigger a new netlink message for the
feature change event which will result in a call to tg3_get_stats64()
which deadlocks on the tg3 lock."
tg3_set_mtu() does not need to be under the tg3 lock since converting
the flags to use set_bit(). Move it out to after tg3_netif_stop().

MII management bus clock is derived from the MAC clock by dividing it by
MIIMODER register CLKDIV field value. This value may need to be set up
in case it is undefined or its default value is too high (and
communication with PHY is too slow) or too low (and communication with
PHY is impossible). The value of CLKDIV is not specified directly, but
is derived from the MAC clock for the default MII management bus frequency
of 2.5MHz. The MAC clock may be specified in the platform data, or in

As part of a workaround for a hardware erratum in the SFC9100 family
(SF bug 35388), the TX_DESC_UPD_DWORD register address is also used
for communicating with the event block, and only descriptor pointer
values < 2048 are valid.
If the TX DMA ring size is increased to 4096 descriptors (which the
firmware still allows) then we may write a descriptor pointer
value >= 2048, which has entirely different and undesirable effects!
Limit the TX DMA ring size correctly when this workaround is in
effect.

If we have EEH error happens to the adapter and we have to remove
it from the system for some reasons (e.g. more than 5 EEH errors
detected from the device in last hour), the adapter will be disabled
for towice separately by eeh_err_detected() and remove_one(), which
will incur following unexpected backtrace. The patch tries to avoid
it.

This is a fix to a regression introduced by commit:
"982290a net/mlx4_core: Check port number for validity
before accessing data"
IPoIB could not attach to multicast group and we get this in dmesg:
[144214.145008] ib0: failed to attach to multicast group, ret = -22
[144214.145016] ib0: couldn't attach QP to multicast group ff12:401b:ffff:0000:0000:0000:ffff:ffff
[144214.145019] ib0: multicast join failed for ff12:401b:ffff:0000:0000:0000:ffff:ffff, status -22
The cause to the problem is because port is extracted from gid[5].
Which is only valid for Ethernet.
Removed this validation in mlx4_qp_attach_common(), which is accessed
from both Ethernet and IB flows.
Error flow for bad port value in Ethernet is already exists in that

When timestamping is enabled, stmmac_tx_clean will call
stmmac_get_tx_hwtstamp to get tx TS.
But the skb can be NULL because the last of its tx_skbuff is NULL
if this packet frame is filled in more than one descriptors.
To fix the issue, change the code:
- Store TX skb to the tx_skbuff[] of frame's last segment.
- Check skb is not NULL in stmmac_get_tx_hwtstamp.

This change makes it so that the first tx_buffer structure acts as a
central storage location for most of the info about the skb we are about
to transmit.
In addition this patch makes tx_flags part of the ixgbevf_tx_buffer struct.
This allows us to use the flags directly from the stucture and as result
removes the tx_flags parameter from some functions. Also as a cleanup
mapped_as_page is folded into tx_flags and some unused flags were removed.

This patch removes the Tx/Rx counters for checksum offload.
The Tx counter was never updated and the Rx counter is of limited use.
This is in effort to clean up the counters and make them consistent
with the counters shown by ixgbe.
Also this patch removes some members of the adapter structure that were
never used and shuffles others to reduce number of holes.

This patch cleans up the code by removing the adapter structure as
parameter from multiple functions. The adapter structure was previously
being used to access the dev pointer, but this can also be done via the
ixgbevf_ring structure. This way we can drop the adapter as parameter from
these functions.

This patch adds capability to configure DCB on i40e network
interfaces using Intel XL710 adapter firmware APIs.
By default all VSIs are only enabled for the default traffic
class enabled by firmware for any given PF. The driver would
query the firmware for the traffic classes that are enabled for
the port and reconfigure the LAN VSI to match to the port traffic
class settings. All other VSIs are only enabled for the default
traffic class settings for now.
The driver registers and listens to firmware events that may
require change in the DCB settings. It may reconfigure the VSI
settings based on these events.
This patch exposes IEEE DCBNL interfaces for the i40e driver to
allow any application to query the DCB settings on the adapter.

Intel XL710 series of adapters support QoS as per the
IEEE 802.1 DCB (Data Center Bridging) standard.
This is supported in conjuction with:
- Enhanced Transmission Selection (ETS) - IEEE 802.1Qaz
- Priority Flow Control (PFC) - IEEE 802.1Qbb
- DCB eXchange Protocol (DCBX) - IEEE 802.1Qaz
On Intel XL710 adapters DCBX is performed by the adapter
firmware. The firmware runs DCBX in willing mode and configures
the port as per the DCB settings recommended by it's link
partner.
By default in absence of any DCBX; firmware would configure the
port with a single traffic class and all of the port bandwith
will be allocated to that traffic class.
This patch adds functions and calls to support querying and
configuring DCB using firmware APIs.

when using current programming methods. This refactor
fixes the inconsistencies that were preventing clean

flow director errors into their own hardware VSI.

basic ethtool add ntuple rule, which will disable
the driver's automatic flow programming. A future patch

On newer and faster machines (Vortex X86DX) using the r6040 driver, it
was noticed that the driver was returning an error during probing traced
down to being the MDIO bus probing and the inability to complete a MDIO
read operation in time. It turns out that the MDIO operations on these
faster machines usually complete after ~2140 iterations which is bigger
than 2048 (MAC_DEF_TIMEOUT) and results in spurious timeouts depending
on the system load.
Update r6040_phy_read() and r6040_phy_write() to include a 1
micro second delay in each busy-looping iteration of the loop which is a
much safer operation than incrementing MAC_DEF_TIMEOUT.

Commit 7509963c70 (e1000e: Fix a compile flag mis-match for

In hibernation freeze case the driver just releases the resources like
dma buffers, irqs, unregisters the drivers and during restore it does
register, request the resources. This is not really necessary, as part
of power management all the data structures are intact, all the
previously allocated resources can be used after coming out of low
power.
This patch uses the suspend and resume callbacks for freeze and
restore which initializes the hardware correctly without unregistering
or releasing the resources, this should also help in reducing the time
to restore.
Also this patch fixes a bug in stmmac_pltfr_restore and
stmmac_pltfr_freeze where it tries to get hold of platform data via
dev_get_platdata call, which would return NULL in device tree cases and
the next if statement would crash as there is no NULL check.

The driver PM resume assumes that the IP is still powered up and the
all the register contents are not disturbed when it comes out of low
power suspend case. This assumption is wrong, basically the driver
should not consider any state of registers after it comes out of low
power. However driver can keep the part of the IP powered up if its a
wake up source. But it can not assume the register state of the IP. Also
its possible that SOC glue layer can take the power off the IP if its
not wake-up source to reduce the power consumption.
This patch re initializes hardware by calling stmmac_hw_setup function in
resume case.

This patch promotes stmmac_mdio_reset function from static to
non-static, so that power management functions can decide to reset if
the IP comes out from lowe power state specially hibernation cases.

This patch moves hardware setup part of the code in stmmac_open to a new
function stmmac_hw_setup, the reason for doing this is to make hw
initialization independent function so that PM functions can re-use it to
re-initialize the IP after returning from low power state.
This will also avoid code duplication across stmmac_resume/restore and
stmmac_open.

This patch moves dma resource allocation to a new function
alloc_dma_desc_resources, the reason for moving this to a new function
is to keep the memory allocations in a separate function. One more reason
it to get suspend and hibernation cases working without releasing and
allocating these resources during suspend-resume and freeze-restore
cases.

This patch removes gpio_free for reset line of the phy, driver stores
the gpio number in its private data-structure to use in future. As the
driver uses this pin in future this pin should not be freed.

This patch adds support to "max-speed" property which is a standard
Ethernet device tree property. max-speed specifies maximum speed
(specified in megabits per second) supported the device.
Depending on the clocking schemes some of the boards can only support
few link speeds, so having a way to limit the link speed in the mac
driver would allow such setups to work reliably.
Without this patch there is no way to tell the driver to limit the
link speed.

The function return parameter is not used in mvneta_tx_done_gbe(),
where the function is called. This patch makes the function return
void.
