commit a8c06e407e ("usb: separate out sysdev pointer from
usb_bus") converted to use hcd->self.sysdev for DMA
operations instead of hcd->self.controller but forgot to do
it for one instance.
This gets caught when DMA debugging is enabled since dma map
and unmap end up using different device pointers.
Fix it.

There is race condition when two USB class drivers try to call
init_usb_class at the same time and leads to crash.
code path: probe->usb_register_dev->init_usb_class
To solve this, mutex locking has been added in init_usb_class() and
destroy_usb_class().
As pointed by Alan, removed "if (usb_class)" test from destroy_usb_class()
because usb_class can never be NULL there.

Using KASAN, Dmitry found a bug in the rh_call_control() routine: If
buffer allocation fails, the routine returns immediately without
unlinking its URB from the control endpoint, eventually leading to
linked-list corruption.
This patch fixes the problem by jumping to the end of the routine
(where the URB is unlinked) when an allocation failure occurs.

Several drivers have implemented their endpoint look-up loops in such a
way that they have picked the last endpoint descriptor of the specified
type should more than one such descriptor exist.
To avoid any regressions, add corresponding helpers to lookup endpoints
by searching the endpoint descriptors in reverse order.

Many USB drivers iterate over the available endpoints to find required
endpoints of a specific type and direction. Typically the endpoints are
required for proper function and a missing endpoint should abort probe.
To facilitate code reuse, add a helper to retrieve common endpoints
(bulk or interrupt, in or out) and four wrappers to find a single
endpoint.
Note that the helpers are marked as __must_check to serve as a reminder
to always verify that all expected endpoints are indeed present. This
also means that any optional endpoints, typically need to be looked up
through separate calls.

For xhci-hcd platform device, all the DMA parameters are not
configured properly, notably dma ops for dwc3 devices.
The idea here is that you pass in the parent of_node along with
the child device pointer, so it would behave exactly like the
parent already does. The difference is that it also handles all
the other attributes besides the mask.
sysdev will represent the physical device, as seen from firmware
or bus.Splitting the usb_bus->controller field into the
Linux-internal device (used for the sysfs hierarchy, for printks
and for power management) and a new pointer (used for DMA,
DT enumeration and phy lookup) probably covers all that we really
need.

Code analysis shows that intf is set to NULL in usb_disable_device() prior
to setting actconfig to NULL. At the same time, usb_runtime_idle() does not
lock the usb device, and neither does any of the functions in the
traceback. This means that there is no protection against a race condition
where usb_disable_device() is removing dev->actconfig->interface[] pointers
while those are being accessed from autosuspend_check().
To solve the problem, synchronize and validate device state between
autosuspend_check() and usb_disconnect().

If usb_get_bos_descriptor() returns an error, usb->bos will be NULL.
Nevertheless, it is dereferenced unconditionally in
hub_set_initial_usb2_lpm_policy() if usb2_hw_lpm_capable is set.

a lot of embeded system SOC (e.g. freescale T2080) have both
PCI and USB modules. But USB module is controlled by registers directly,
it have no relationship with PCI module.

Some USB 2.0 devices erroneously report millisecond values in
bInterval. The generic config code manages to catch most of them,
but in some cases it's not completely enough.
The case at stake here is a USB 2.0 braille device, which wants to
announce 10ms and thus sets bInterval to 10, but with the USB 2.0
computation that yields to 64ms. It happens that one can type fast
enough to reach this interval and get the device buffers overflown,
leading to problematic latencies. The generic config code does not
catch this case because the 64ms is considered a sane enough value.
This change thus adds a USB_QUIRK_LINEAR_FRAME_INTR_BINTERVAL quirk
to mark devices which actually report milliseconds in bInterval,
and marks Vario Ultra devices as needing it.

We are going to split <linux/sched/signal.h> out of <linux/sched.h>, which
will have to be picked up from other headers and a couple of .c files.
Create a trivial placeholder <linux/sched/signal.h> file that just
maps to <linux/sched.h> to make this patch obviously correct and
bisectable.
Include the new header in the files that are going to need it.

Add a quirk for WORLDE easykey.25 MIDI keyboard (idVendor=0218,
idProduct=0401). The device reports that it has config string
descriptor at index 3, but when the system selects the configuration
and tries to get the description, it returns a -EPROTO error,
the communication restarts and this keeps repeating over and over again.
Not requesting the string descriptor makes the device work correctly.

On some platforms(e.g. rk3399 board), we can call hcd_add/remove
consecutively without calling usb_put_hcd/usb_create_hcd in between,
so hcd->flags can be stale.
If the HC dies due to whatever reason then without this patch we get

The commonly use of bottom halves are tasklet and workqueue. The big
difference between tasklet and workqueue is that the tasklet runs in
an interrupt context and the workqueue runs in a process context,
which means it can sleep if need be.
The comment for usb_control/interrupt/bulk_msg() functions note that do
not use this function within an interrupt context, like a 'bottom half'
handler. With this comment, it makes confuse about usage of these
functions.
To more clarify, remove 'bottom half' comment.

When checking a new device's descriptors, the USB core does not check
for duplicate endpoint addresses. This can cause a problem when the
sysfs files for those endpoints are created; trying to create multiple

On a system with a defective USB device connected to an USB hub,
an endless sequence of port connect events was observed. The sequence
of events as observed is as follows:
- Port reports connected event (port status=USB_PORT_STAT_CONNECTION).
- Event handler debounces port and resets it by calling hub_port_reset().
- hub_port_reset() calls hub_port_wait_reset() to wait for the reset
to complete.
- The reset completes, but USB_PORT_STAT_CONNECTION is not immediately
set in the port status register.
- hub_port_wait_reset() returns -ENOTCONN.
- Port initialization sequence is aborted.
- A few milliseconds later, the port again reports a connected event,
and the sequence repeats.
This continues either forever or, randomly, stops if the connection
is already re-established when the port status is read. It results in
a high rate of udev events. This in turn destabilizes userspace since
the above sequence holds the device mutex pretty much continuously
and prevents userspace from actually reading the device status.
To prevent the problem from happening, let's wait for the connection
to be re-established after a port reset. If the device was actually
disconnected, the code will still return an error, but it will do so
only after the long reset timeout.

USB-3 does not have any link state that will avoid negotiating a connection
with a plugged-in cable but will signal the host when the cable is
unplugged.
For USB-3 we used to first set the link to Disabled, then to RxDdetect to
be able to detect cable connects or disconnects. But in RxDetect the
connected device is detected again and eventually enabled.
Instead set the link into U3 and disable remote wakeups for the device.
This is what Windows does, and what Alan Stern suggested.

CURRENT_TIME macro is not appropriate for filesystems as it
doesn't use the right granularity for filesystem timestamps.
Use current_time() instead.
CURRENT_TIME is also not y2038 safe.
This is also in preparation for the patch that transitions
vfs timestamps to use 64 bit time and hence make them
y2038 safe. As part of the effort current_time() will be
extended to do range checks. Hence, it is necessary for all
file system timestamps to use current_time(). Also,
current_time() will be transitioned along with vfs to be
y2038 safe.
Note that whenever a single call to current_time() is used
to change timestamps in different inodes, it is because they
share the same time granularity.

In USB20 specification, describes in chapter 9.4.5: The Remote Wakeup
field can be modified by the SetFeature() and ClearFeature() requests
using the DEVICE_REMOTE_WAKEUP feature selector.
In USB30 specification, also describes in chapter 9.4.5: The Function
Remote Wakeup field can be modified by the SetFeature() requests
using the FUNCTION_SUSPEND feature selector. In chapter 9.4.9 Set
Feature reference, it describes Function Remote Wake Enabled/Disabled
at suspend options by SET_FEATURE.
In USB30 specification only mentioned SetFeature(), so we need use
SET_FEATURE replace CLEAR_FEATURE to disable USB30 function remote
wakeup in suspend options.

This commit adds a new trigger responsible for turning on LED when USB
device gets connected to the selected USB port. This can can useful for
various home routers that have USB port(s) and a proper LED telling user
a device is connected.
The trigger gets its documentation file but basically it just requires
enabling it and selecting USB ports (e.g. echo 1 > ports/usb1-1).
There was a long discussion on design of this driver. Its current state
is a result of picking them most adjustable solution as others couldn't
handle all cases.
1) It wasn't possible for the driver to register separated trigger for
each USB port. Some physical USB ports are handled by more than one
controller and so by more than one USB port. E.g. USB 2.0 physical
port may be handled by OHCI's port and EHCI's port.
It's also not possible to assign more than 1 trigger to a single LED
and implementing such feature would be tricky due to syncing triggers
and sysfs conflicts with old triggers.
2) Another idea was to register trigger per USB hub. This wouldn't allow
handling devices with multiple USB LEDs and controllers (hubs)
controlling more than 1 physical port. It's common for hubs to have
few ports and each may have its own LED.
This final trigger is highly flexible. It allows selecting any USB ports
for any LED. It was also modified (comparing to the initial version) to
allow choosing ports rather than having user /guess/ proper names. It
was successfully tested on SmartRG SR400ac which has 3 USB LEDs,
2 physical ports and 3 controllers.
It was noted USB subsystem already has usb-gadget and usb-host triggers
but they are pretty trivial ones. They indicate activity only and can't
have ports specified.
In future it may be good idea to consider adding activity support to
usbport as well. This should allow switching to this more generic driver
and maybe marking old ones as obsolete.
This can be implemented with another sysfs file for setting mode. The
default mode wouldn't change so there won't be ABI breakage and so such
feature can be safely implemented later.
There was also an idea of supporting other devices (PCI, SDIO, etc.) but
as this driver already contains some USB specific code (and will get
more) these should be probably separated drivers (triggers).

Some full-speed mceusb infrared transceivers contain invalid endpoint
descriptors for their interrupt endpoints, with bInterval set to 0.
In the past they have worked out okay with the mceusb driver, because
the driver sets the bInterval field in the descriptor to 1,
overwriting whatever value may have been there before. However, this
approach was never sanctioned by the USB core, and in fact it does not
work with xHCI controllers, because they use the bInterval value that
was present when the configuration was installed.
Currently usbcore uses 32 ms as the default interval if the value in
the endpoint descriptor is invalid. It turns out that these IR
transceivers don't work properly unless the interval is set to 10 ms
or below. To work around this mceusb problem, this patch changes the
endpoint-descriptor parsing routine, making the default interval value
be 10 ms rather than 32 ms.

If dma_pfn_offset is not inherited correctly from the host controller,
it might result in sub-optimal configuration as bounce
buffer limit might be set to less than optimal level.
Consider the mass storage device case.
USB storage driver creates a scsi host for the mass storage interface in
drivers/usb/storage/usb.c
The scsi host parent device is nothing but the the USB interface device.
Now, __scsi_init_queue() calls scsi_calculate_bounce_limit() to find out
and set the block layer bounce limit.
scsi_calculate_bounce_limit() uses dma_max_pfn(host_dev) to get the
bounce_limit. host_dev is nothing but the device representing the
mass storage interface.
If that device doesn't have the right dma_pfn_offset, then dma_max_pfn()
is messed up and the bounce buffer limit is wrong.
e.g. On Keystone 2 systems, dma_max_pfn() is 0x87FFFF and dma_mask_pfn
is 0xFFFFF. Consider a mass storage use case: Without this patch,
usb scsi host device (usb-storage) will get a dma_pfn_offset of 0 resulting
in a dma_max_pfn() of 0xFFFFF within the scsi layer
(scsi_calculate_bounce_limit()).
This will result in bounce buffers being unnecessarily used.
Hint: On 32-bit ARM platforms dma_max_pfn() = dma_mask_pfn + dma_pfn_offset

UBSAN complains about a left shift by -1 in proc_do_submiturb(). This
can occur when an URB is submitted for a bulk or control endpoint on
a high-speed device, since the code doesn't bother to check the
endpoint type; normally only interrupt or isochronous endpoints have
a nonzero bInterval value.
Aside from the fact that the operation is illegal, it shouldn't matter
because the result isn't used. Still, in theory it could cause a
hardware exception or other problem, so we should work around it.
This patch avoids doing the left shift unless the shift amount is >= 0.
The same piece of code has another problem. When checking the device
speed (the exponential encoding for interrupt endpoints is used only
by high-speed or faster devices), we need to look for speed >=
USB_SPEED_SUPER as well as speed == USB_SPEED HIGH. The patch adds
this check.

Hans de Goede has reported a difficulty in the Linux port of libusb.
When a device is removed, the poll() system call in usbfs starts
returning POLLERR as soon as udev->state is set to
USB_STATE_NOTATTACHED, but the outstanding URBs are not available for
reaping until some time later (after usbdev_remove() has been called).
This is awkward for libusb or other usbfs clients, although not an
insuperable problem.
At any rate, it's easy to change usbfs so that it returns POLLHUP as
soon as the state becomes USB_STATE_NOTATTACHED but it doesn't return
POLLERR until after the outstanding URBs have completed. That's what
this patch does; it uses the fact that ps->list is always on the
dev->filelist list until usbdev_remove() takes it off, which happens
after all the outstanding URBs have been cancelled.

Erroneous or malicious endpoint descriptors may have non-zero bits in
reserved positions, or out-of-bounds values. This patch helps prevent
these from causing problems by bounds-checking the wMaxPacketValue
entries in endpoint descriptors and capping the values at the maximum
allowed.
This issue was first discovered and tests were conducted by Jake Lamberson
<jake.lamberson1@gmail.com>, an intern working for Rosie Hall.

The locking in hub_activate() is not adequate to provide full mutual
exclusion with hub_quiesce(). The subroutine locks the hub's
usb_interface, but the callers of hub_quiesce() (such as
hub_pre_reset() and hub_event()) hold the lock to the hub's
usb_device.
This patch changes hub_activate() to make it acquire the same lock as
those other routines.

The early-exit pathway in hub_activate, added by commit e50293ef97
("USB: fix invalid memory access in hub_activate()") needs
improvement. It duplicates code that is already present at the end of
the subroutine, and it neglects to undo the effect of a
usb_autopm_get_interface_no_resume() call.
This patch fixes both problems by making the early-exit pathway jump
directly to the end of the subroutine. It simplifies the code at the
end by merging two conditionals that actually test the same condition
although they appear different: If type < HUB_INIT3 then type must be
either HUB_INIT2 or HUB_INIT, and it can't be HUB_INIT because in that
case the subroutine would have exited earlier.

Memory leak and unbalanced reference count:
If the hub gets disconnected while the core is still activating it, this
can result in leaking memory of few USB structures.
This will happen if we have done a kref_get() from hub_activate() and
scheduled a delayed work item for HUB_INIT2/3. Now if hub_disconnect()
gets called before the delayed work expires, then we will cancel the
work from hub_quiesce(), but wouldn't do a kref_put(). And so the
unbalance.
kmemleak reports this as (with the commit e50293ef97 backported to
3.10 kernel with other changes, though the same is true for mainline as

Deadlocks:
If the hub gets disconnected early enough (i.e. before INIT2/INIT3 are
finished and the init_work is still queued), the core may call
hub_quiesce() after acquiring interface device locks and it will wait
for the work to be cancelled synchronously. But if the work handler is
already running in parallel, it may try to acquire the same interface
device lock and this may result in deadlock.
Fix both the issues by removing the call to cancel_delayed_work_sync().

The USB core contains a bug that can show up when a USB-3 host
controller is removed. If the primary (USB-2) hcd structure is
released before the shared (USB-3) hcd, the core will try to do a
double-free of the common bandwidth_mutex.
The problem was described in graphical form by Chung-Geol Kim, who
first reported it:

This happens because hcd_release() frees the bandwidth_mutex whenever
it sees a primary hcd being released (which is not a very good idea
in any case), but in the course of releasing the primary hcd, it
changes the pointers in the shared hcd in such a way that the shared
hcd will appear to be primary when it gets released.
This patch fixes the problem by changing hcd_release() so that it
deallocates the bandwidth_mutex only when the _last_ hcd structure
referencing it is released. The patch also removes an unnecessary
test, so that when an hcd is released, both the shared_hcd and
primary_hcd pointers in the hcd's peer will be cleared.

The Acer C120 LED Projector is a USB-3 connected pico projector which
takes both its power and video data from USB-3.
In combination with some hubs this device does not play well with
lpm, so disable lpm for it.

When a USB driver is bound to an interface (either through probing or
by claiming it) or is unbound from an interface, the USB core always
disables Link Power Management during the transition and then
re-enables it afterward. The reason is because the driver might want
to prevent hub-initiated link power transitions, in which case the HCD
would have to recalculate the various LPM parameters. This
recalculation takes place when LPM is re-enabled and the new
parameters are sent to the device and its parent hub.
However, if the driver does not want to prevent hub-initiated link
power transitions then none of this work is necessary. The parameters
don't need to be recalculated, and LPM doesn't need to be disabled and
re-enabled.
It turns out that disabling and enabling LPM can be time-consuming,
enough so that it interferes with user programs that want to claim and
release interfaces rapidly via usbfs. Since the usbfs kernel driver
doesn't set the disable_hub_initiated_lpm flag, we can speed things up
and get the user programs to work by leaving LPM alone whenever the
flag isn't set.
And while we're improving the way disable_hub_initiated_lpm gets used,
let's also fix its kerneldoc.

This reverts commit e3345db850, which
broke system resume for a large class of devices.
Devices that after having been reset during resume need to be rebound
due to a missing reset_resume callback, are now left in a suspended
state. This specifically broke resume of common USB-serial devices,
which are now unusable after system suspend (until disconnected and
reconnected) when USB persist is enabled.
During resume, usb_resume_interface will set the needs_binding flag for
such interfaces, but unlike system resume, run-time resume does not
honour it.

When the root hub device is added to the bus, it tries to get pins
information from pinctrl (see pinctrl_bind_pins, at really_probe), if
the pin information is described at DT, it will show below error since
the root hub's device node is the same with controller's, but controller's
pin has already been requested when it is added to platform bus.

The XHCI controller presents two USB buses to the system - one for USB2
and one for USB3. The hub init code (hub_port_init) is reentrant but
only locks one bus per thread, leading to a race condition failure when
two threads attempt to simultaneously initialise a USB2 and USB3 device:

Mathias Nyman explains the current behaviour violates the XHCI spec:
hub_port_reset() will end up moving the corresponding xhci device slot
to default state.
As hub_port_reset() is called several times in hub_port_init() it
sounds reasonable that we could end up with two threads having their
xhci device slots in default state at the same time, which according to
xhci 4.5.3 specs still is a big no no:
"Note: Software shall not transition more than one Device Slot to the
Default State at a time"
So both threads fail at their next task after this.
One fails to read the descriptor, and the other fails addressing the
device.
Fix this in hub_port_init by locking the USB controller (instead of an
individual bus) to prevent simultaneous initialisation of both buses.

usb_submit_urb() may take quite long to execute. For example, a
single sg list may have 30 or more entries, possibly leading to that
many calls to DMA-map pages. This can cause interrupt latency of
several hundred micro-seconds.
Avoid the problem by releasing the io->lock spinlock and re-enabling
interrupts before calling usb_submit_urb(). This opens races with
usb_sg_cancel() and sg_complete(). Handle those races by using
usb_block_urb() to stop URBs from being submitted after
usb_sg_cancel() or sg_complete() with error.
Note that usb_unlink_urb() is guaranteed to return -ENODEV if
!io->urbs[i]->dev and since the -ENODEV case is already handled,
we don't have to check for !io->urbs[i]->dev explicitly.
Before this change, reading 512MB from an ext3 filesystem on a USB
memory stick showed a throughput of 12 MB/s with about 500 missed
deadlines.
With this change, reading the same file gave the same throughput but
only one or two missed deadlines.

same PCI device but with different device function. HCD should

commit b37d83a6a4 ("usb: Parse the new USB 3.1 SuperSpeedPlus Isoc
endpoint companion descriptor") caused a regression in 4.6-rc1 and fails
to parse SuperSpeed endpoint companion descriptors.
The new SuperSpeedPlus Isoc endpoint companion parsing code incorrectly
decreased the the remaining buffer size before comparing the size with the
expected length of the descriptor.
This lead to possible failure in reading the SuperSpeed endpoint companion
descriptor of the last endpoint, displaying a message like:
"No SuperSpeed endpoint companion for config 1 interface 0 altsetting 0
ep 129: using minimum values"
Fix it by decreasing the size after comparing it.
Also finish all the SS endpoint companion parsing before calling SSP isoc
endpoint parsing function.

Although most of USB devices are hot-plug's, there are still some devices
are hard wired on the board, eg, for HSIC and SSIC interface USB devices.
If these kinds of USB devices are multiple functions, and they can supply
other interfaces like i2c, gpios for other devices, we may need to
describe these at device tree.
In this commit, it uses "reg" in dts as physical port number to match
the phyiscal port number decided by USB core, if they are the same,
then the device node is for the device we are creating for USB core.

The new USBDEVFS_DROP_PRIVILEGES ioctl allows a process to voluntarily
relinquish the ability to issue other ioctls that may interfere with
other processes and drivers that have claimed an interface on the
device.
This commit also includes a simple utility to be able to test the
ioctl, located at Documentation/usb/usbdevfs-drop-permissions.c

Some platforms don't have DMA, but we should still be able to build USB
drivers for these platforms. They could still be used through vhci_hcd,
usbip_host, or maybe something like USB passthrough in UML from a
capable host.

Some devices I got show an inability to operate right after
power on if they are already connected. They are beyond recovery
if the descriptors are requested multiple times. So in case of
a timeout we rather bail early and reset again. But it must be
done only on the first loop lest we get into a reset/time out
spiral that can be overcome with a retry.
This patch is a rework of a patch that fell through the cracks.

Add a new interface for userspace to preallocate memory that can be
used with usbfs. This gives two primary benefits:
- Zerocopy; data no longer needs to be copied between the userspace
and the kernel, but can instead be read directly by the driver from
userspace's buffers. This works for all kinds of transfers (even if
nonsensical for control and interrupt transfers); isochronous also
no longer need to memset() the buffer to zero to avoid leaking kernel data.
- Once the buffers are allocated, USB transfers can no longer fail due to
memory fragmentation; previously, long-running programs could run into
problems finding a large enough contiguous memory chunk, especially on
embedded systems or at high rates.
Memory is allocated by using mmap() against the usbfs file descriptor,
and similarly deallocated by munmap(). Once memory has been allocated,
using it as pointers to a bulk or isochronous operation means you will
automatically get zerocopy behavior. Note that this also means you cannot
modify outgoing data until the transfer is complete. The same holds for
data on the same cache lines as incoming data; DMA modifying them at the
same time could lead to your changes being overwritten.
There's a new capability USBDEVFS_CAP_MMAP that userspace can query to see
if the running kernel supports this functionality, if just trying mmap() is
not acceptable.

USB 3.1 devices that support precision time measurement have an
additional PTM cabaility descriptor as part of the full BOS descriptor
Look for this descriptor while parsing the BOS descriptor, and store it in
struct usb_hub_bos if it exists.

USB 3.1 devices can return a new SuperSpeedPlus isoc endpoint companion
descriptor for a isochronous endpoint that requires more than 48K bytes
per Service Interval.
The new descriptor immediately follows the old USB 3.0 SuperSpeed Endpoint
Companion and will provide a new BytesPerInterval value.
It is parsed and stored in struct usb_host_endpoint with the other endpoint
related descriptors, and should be used by USB3.1 capable hosts to reserve
bus time in the schedule.

Drivers should include asm/pci-bridge.h only when they need the arch-
specific things provided there. Outside of the arch/ directories, the only
drivers that actually need things provided by asm/pci-bridge.h are the
powerpc RPA hotplug drivers in drivers/pci/hotplug/rpa*.
Remove the includes of asm/pci-bridge.h from the other drivers, adding an
include of linux/pci.h if necessary.

You're right. For some reason I thought that usb_deauthorize_device()
would destroy the rawdescriptor structures (as mentioned in that
commit's Changelog), but it doesn't. The locking in read_descriptors()
is unnecessary.

introduced needed locking into sysfs operations on USB devices
It, however, uses uninterruptible sleep and if the error
handling is on extreme cases of sleep lengths of 10s of seconds
are possible. Unless we are removing the device we should use
interruptible sleep.

In function usb_reset_and_verify_device, the old BOS descriptor may
still be used before allocating a new one. (usb_unlocked_disable_lpm
function uses it under the situation that it fails to disable lpm.)
So we cannot set the udev->bos to NULL before that, just keep what it
was. It will be overwrite when allocating a new one.

kbasename() helper is dedicated to find a last part of the filename or
pathname. USB core uses open-coded variant of that helper.
Replace some lines of code by kbasename() call.
The current users do not have trailing slash and we are on the safe side to
make such change. I dig a history of the code under question up and found the
patch [1] that brought it along with the same to tty layer. The check for
trailing slash looks like copy'n'paste thing and I consider it as redundant.

usb 3.1 extend the hub get-port-status request by adding different
request types. the new request types return 4 additional bytes called
extended port status, these bytes are returned after the regular
portstatus and portchange values.
The extended port status contains a speed ID for the currently used
sublink speed. A table of supported Speed IDs with details about the link
is provided by the hub in the device descriptor BOS SuperSpeedPlus
device capability Sublink Speed Attributes.
Support this new request. Ask for the extended port status after port
reset if hub supports USB 3.1. If link is running at SuperSpeedPlus
set the device speed to USB_SPEED_SUPER_PLUS

Add a new USB_SPEED_SUPER_PLUS device speed, and make sure usb core can
handle the new speed.
In most cases the behaviour is the same as with USB_SPEED_SUPER SuperSpeed
devices. In a few places we add a "Plus" string to inform the user of the
new speed.

Have dev_pm_ops.prepare return 1 for USB devices and ports so that USB

Commit 8520f38099 ("USB: change hub initialization sleeps to
delayed_work") changed the hub_activate() routine to make part of it
run in a workqueue. However, the commit failed to take a reference to
the usb_hub structure or to lock the hub interface while doing so. As
a result, if a hub is plugged in and quickly unplugged before the work
routine can run, the routine will try to access memory that has been
deallocated. Or, if the hub is unplugged while the routine is
running, the memory may be deallocated while it is in active use.
This patch fixes the problem by taking a reference to the usb_hub at
the start of hub_activate() and releasing it at the end (when the work
is finished), and by locking the hub interface while the work routine
is running. It also adds a check at the start of the routine to see
if the hub has already been disconnected, in which nothing should be
done.

Some USB device / host controller combinations seem to have problems
with Link Power Management. For example, Steinar found that his xHCI
controller wouldn't handle bandwidth calculations correctly for two
video cards simultaneously when LPM was enabled, even though the bus
had plenty of bandwidth available.
This patch introduces a new quirk flag for devices that should remain
disabled for LPM, and creates quirk entries for Steinar's devices.

Currently usb_port_resume waits for up to 2 seconds for CONNECT
status for SS devices only. This change will do the same thing for
non-SS devices even though the reason is a little different. This
will fix an issue where VBUS is turned off during system wide
"suspend to ram" and some 2.0 devices take greater than the current
max of 100ms to show connected after VBUS is enabled. This is most
commonly seen on hard drive based devices and USB3.0 devices plugged
into a 2.0 only port.

Diving into the acpi tables, I noticed the EHCI hub has 12 ports while the XHCI
hub has 8 ports. Most of those ports are of connect type USB_PORT_NOT_USED
(including port 1 of the EHCI hub).
Further the unused ports have location data initialized to 0x80000000.
Now each unused port on the xhci hub walks the port list and finds a matching
peer with port1 of the EHCI hub because the zero'd out group id bits falsely match.
After port1 of the XHCI hub, each following matching peer will generate the
above warning.
These warnings seem to be harmless for this scenario as I don't think it
matters that unused ports could not create a peer link.
The attached patch utilizes that assumption and just turns the pr_warn into
pr_debug to quiet things down.

USB3 LPM is default on in Linux kernel if both xHCI host controller
and the USB devices declare to be LPM-capable. Unfortunately, some
devices are known to work well with LPM disabled, but to be broken
if LPM is enabled, although it declares the LPM capability. Users
won't be able to use this kind of devices, until someone puts them
in the kernel blacklist and gets the kernel upgraded.
This patch adds a sysfs node to permit or forbit USB3 LPM U1 or U2
entry for a port. The settings apply to both before and after device
enumeration. Supported values are "0" - neither u1 nor u2 permitted,
"u1" - only u1 is permitted, "u2" - only u2 is permitted, "u1_u2" -
both u1 and u2 are permitted. With this interface, users can use an
LPM-unfriendly USB device on a released Linux kernel.

Commit 655fe4effe ("usbcore: add sysfs support to xHCI usb3
hardware LPM") introduced usb3_hardware_lpm sysfs node. This
doesn't show the correct status of USB3 U1 and U2 LPM status.
This patch fixes this by replacing usb3_hardware_lpm with two
nodes, usb3_hardware_lpm_u1 (for U1) and usb3_hardware_lpm_u2
(for U2), and recording the U1/U2 LPM status in right places.
This patch should be back-ported to kernels as old as 4.3,
that contains Commit 655fe4effe ("usbcore: add sysfs support
to xHCI usb3 hardware LPM").

usb_parse_ss_endpoint_companion() now decodes the burst multiplier
correctly in order to check that it's <= 3, but still uses the wrong
expression if warning that it's > 3.

When a USB 3.0 mass storage device is disconnected in transporting
state, storage device driver may handle it as a transport error and
reset the device by invoking usb_reset_and_verify_device()
and following could happen:
in usb_reset_and_verify_device():
udev->bos = NULL;
For U1/U2 enabled devices, driver will disable LPM, and in some
conditions:

--> usb_enable_lpm()

This commit moves 'udev->bos = NULL' behind usb_unlocked_disable_lpm()
to prevent from NULL pointer access.
Issue can be reproduced by following setup:
1) A SS pen drive behind a SS hub connected to the host.
2) Transporting data between the pen drive and the host.
3) Abruptly disconnect hub and pen drive from host.
4) With a chance it crashes.

This patch improves the usbfs_snoop debugging facility by adding
messages for a couple of significant events which, up to now, have not
been logged. The events are reaping and discarding (i.e.,
cancelling) an URB. The debugging messages include the userspace
address of the URB being reaped or discarded.
The reaping messages have to be added in four places, in order to
handle blocking and non-blocking reaps in both normal and 32-bit
compatibility mode.

The usbfs_snoop facility can be very useful for debugging problems
involving usbfs. However, it always prints out the entire contents of
every URB. When dealing with large quantities of data, this can be
less than helpful.
This patch ameliorates the situation by adding a module parameter to
usbcore for controlling the maximum number of bytes to print when
snooping an URB. This makes debugging much easier. For backward
compatibility, the default value is set unreasonably high.

Like other buggy models that had their fixes [1], the touchscreen with
id 04f3:21b8 from ELAN Microelectronics needs the device-qualifier
quirk. Otherwise, it fails to respond, blocks the boot for a random
amount of time and pollutes dmesg with:

When choose randconfig for kernel build, it reports below warning:

In fact, USB_OTG is visible symbol and depends on PM, so the driver
needs to depend on it to reduce dependency problem.

Add a device quirk for the Logitech PTZ Pro Camera and its sibling the
ConferenceCam CC3000e Camera.
This fixes the failed camera enumeration on some boot, particularly on
machines with fast CPU.
Tested by connecting a Logitech PTZ Pro Camera to a machine with a
Haswell Core i7-4600U CPU @ 2.10GHz, and doing thousands of reboot cycles
while recording the kernel logs and taking camera picture after each boot.
Before the patch, more than 7% of the boots show some enumeration transfer
failures and in a few of them, the kernel is giving up before actually
enumerating the webcam. After the patch, the enumeration has been correct
on every reboot.

Since a_alt_hnp_support is obsolete in OTG 2.0, HNP capable host should
send this set feature request only if the otg device is connecting to a
non-HNP port and it's compliant with OTG 1.x revision. This is done by
checking its otg descriptor length, OTG 2.0 uses usb_otg20_descriptor
which has different length than OTG 1.x using usb_otg_descriptor.

Hosts that support USB 3.1 Enhaned SuperSpeed can set their speed to
HCD_USB31 to let usb core and host drivers know that the controller
supports new USB 3.1 features.
make sure usb core handle HCD_USB31 hosts correctly, for now similar
to HCD_USB3.

If a device supports usb 3.1 SupeerSpeedPlus Gen2 speeds it povides
a SuperSpeedPlus device capability descriptor as a part of its
BOS descriptor. If we find one while parsing the BOS then save it
togeter with the other device capabilities found in the BOS

The kernel supports the device authorization because of wireless USB.
These is usable for wired USB devices, too.
These new interface authorization allows to enable or disable
individual interfaces instead a whole device.
If a deauthorized interface will be authorized so the driver probing must
be triggered manually by writing INTERFACE to /sys/bus/usb/drivers_probe
