ae7e81c077 sched/headers: Prepare for new header dependencies before moving code to <uapi/linux/sched/types.h>
We are going to move scheduler ABI details to <uapi/linux/sched/types.h>,
which will be used from a number of .c files.

Create empty placeholder header that maps to <linux/types.h>.

Include the new header in the files that are going to need it.

5b5e0928f7 lib/vsprintf.c: remove %Z support
Now that %z is standartised in C99 there is no reason to support %Z.
Unlike %L it doesn't even make format strings smaller.

Use BUILD_BUG_ON in a couple ATM drivers.

In case anyone didn't notice lib/vsprintf.o is about half of SLUB which
is in my opinion is quite an achievement. Hopefully this patch inspires
someone else to trim vsprintf.c more.

Apparently, 'count' can be negative here, which will then get turned
into a giant size argument for memcpy. Changing the sizes to 'unsigned
int' instead seems safe as we already check for maximum sizes, and it
also simplifies the code a bit.

92fbeb40b1 [media] tw686x: silent -Wformat-security warning
Using sprintf() with a non-literal string makes some compiler complain
when building with -Wformat-security (eg. clang reports "format string
is not a string literal (potentially insecure)").

Here sprintf() format parameter is indirectly a literal string so there
is no security issue. Nevertheless adding a "%s" format string to
silent the warning helps to detect real bugs in the kernel.

However, we never actually marked it as deprecated nor provided any

This patch prepares for the removal of this bad usage on a couple
of Kernel versions.

0f7499fddb [media] rc-main: assign driver type during allocation
The driver type can be assigned immediately when an RC device
requests to the framework to allocate the device.

This is an 'enum rc_driver_type' data type and specifies whether
the device is a raw receiver or scancode receiver. The type will
be given as parameter to the rc_allocate_device device.

Change accordingly all the drivers calling rc_allocate_device()
so that the device type is specified during the rc device
allocation. Whenever the device type is not specified, it will be
set as RC_DRIVER_SCANCODE which was the default '0' value.

399426cadf [media] cx88: make checkpatch.pl happy
Usually, I don't like fixing coding style issues on non-staging
drivers, as it could be a mess pretty easy, and could become like
a snow ball. That's the case of recent changes on two changesets:
they disalign some statements. Yet, a care a lot with cx88 driver,
as it was the first driver I touched at the Kernel, and I've been
maintaining it since 2005. So, several of the coding style issues
were due to my code.

Per Andrey's suggestion, I ran checkpatch.pl in strict mode, with
fixed several other issues, did some function alinments, but broke
other alinments.

So, I had to manually apply another round of manual fixes to make
sure that everything is ok, and to make checkpatch happy with
this patch.

With this patch, checkpatch.pl is now happy when called with:
	./scripts/checkpatch.pl -f --max-line-length=998 --ignore PREFER_PR_LEVEL

Also, the 80-cols violations that made sense were fixed.

Checkpatch would be happier if we convert it to use dev_foo(),
but this is a more complex change.

NOTE: there are some places with msleep(1). As this driver was
written at the time that the default was to sleep at least 10ms
on such calls (e. g. CONFIG_HZ=100), I replaced those calls by
usleep_range(10000, 20000), with should be safe to avoid breakages.

a80e1d965c [media] ttpci: cleanup debug macros and remove dead code
Continuation lines without KERN_CONT won't work anymore.
However, the way dprintk() was defined leads to the usage
of continuation lines, with should be avoided when possible.

So, redefine those macros.

While hre, remove some dead code at av7110.c with also
relies on continuation lines.

7b61ba8ff8 [media] cx88: make checkpatch happier
This driver is old, and have lots of checkpatch violations.
As we're touching a lot on this driver due to the printk
conversions, let's run checkpatch --fix on it, in order to
solve some of those issues.

Also, do a few manual adjustments:
- remove the FSF address and use the usual coding style
  for the initial comments;
- use WARN_ON() instead of BUG_ON();
- remove an unused typedef;
- break a few long lines.

7c64691353 [media] bt8xx/dst: use a more standard way to print messages
This driver uses a weird, non-standard macro to print errors.
It allows hiding all messages, including error ones, with doesn't
seem a good idea.

Instead, replace it to pr_foo(), and, for error messages,
use pr_err().

The remaining messages were previouly classified as notice,
info or debug, but they all looked like debug messages.

So, add a dprintk() macro using the "verbose" modprobe
argument to select what will be displayed.

5fc4b067ec [media] media: solo6x10: fix lockup by avoiding delayed register write
This fixes a lockup at device probing which happens on some solo6010
hardware samples. This is a regression introduced by commit e1ceb25a15
("[media] SOLO6x10: remove unneeded register locking and barriers")

The observed lockup happens in solo_set_motion_threshold() called from
solo_motion_config().

This extra "flushing" is not fundamentally needed for every write, but
apparently the code in driver assumes such behaviour at last in some
places.

Actual fix was proposed by Hans Verkuil.

0e8aebb52d [media] dm1105: don't break long lines
Due to the 80-cols restrictions, and latter due to checkpatch
warnings, several strings were broken into multiple lines. This
is not considered a good practice anymore, as it makes harder
to grep for strings at the source code.

As we're right now fixing other drivers due to KERN_CONT, we need
to be able to identify what printk strings don't end with a "\n".
It is a way easier to detect those if we don't break long lines.

So, join those continuation lines.

9a9689cf6d [media] dvb_filter: use KERN_CONT where needed
Some continuation messages are not using KERN_CONT.

Since commit 563873318d ("Merge branch 'printk-cleanups"),
this won't work as expected anymore. So, let's add KERN_CONT
to those lines.

While here, add missing log level annotations.

b676e7316a [media] dvb-core: move dvb_filter out of the DVB core
The dvb_filter.c can hardly be considered as part of the DVB
core. More than half of the code there is commented out by
av7110 and ttusb_dec.

On the latter, just two small helper functions and a struct
definition is used.

Being part of the core means that it would require an
amount of work to fix issues in it, like bad printk's
on it, and to document it on some future, like other kAPI
headers. It simply not worth the effort for something that
seems to be deprecated, as no new drivers use it.

So, move it out of the core, by moving it to pci/ttpci
directory, where av7110 driver is kept, and copy the two
routines used by ttyusb_dec directly into its code.

c164154f66 mm: replace get_user_pages_unlocked() write/force parameters with gup_flags
This removes the 'write' and 'force' use from get_user_pages_unlocked()
and replaces them with 'gup_flags' to make the use of FOLL_FORCE
explicit in callers as use of this flag can result in surprising
behaviour (and hence bugs) within the mm subsystem.

97139d4a6f treewide: remove redundant #include <linux/kconfig.h>
Kernel source files need not include <linux/kconfig.h> explicitly
because the top Makefile forces to include it with:

  -include $(srctree)/include/linux/kconfig.h

This commit removes explicit includes except the following:

  * arch/s390/include/asm/facilities_src.h
  * tools/testing/radix-tree/linux/kernel.h

These two are used for host programs.

3989144f86 kthread: kthread worker API cleanup
A good practice is to prefix the names of functions by the name
of the subsystem.

The kthread worker API is a mix of classic kthreads and workqueues. Each
worker has a dedicated kthread. It runs a generic function that process
queued works. It is implemented as part of the kthread subsystem.

This patch renames the existing kthread worker API to use
the corresponding name from the workqueues API prefixed by
kthread_:

__init_kthread_worker()		-> __kthread_init_worker()
init_kthread_worker()		-> kthread_init_worker()
init_kthread_work()		-> kthread_init_work()
insert_kthread_work()		-> kthread_insert_work()
queue_kthread_work()		-> kthread_queue_work()
flush_kthread_work()		-> kthread_flush_work()
flush_kthread_worker()		-> kthread_flush_worker()

Note that the names of DEFINE_KTHREAD_WORK*() macros stay
as they are. It is common that the "DEFINE_" prefix has
precedence over the subsystem names.

Note that INIT() macros and init() functions use different
naming scheme. There is no good solution. There are several
reasons for this solution:

  + "init" in the function names stands for the verb "initialize"
    aka "initialize worker". While "INIT" in the macro names
    stands for the noun "INITIALIZER" aka "worker initializer".

  + INIT() macros are used only in DEFINE() macros

  + init() functions are used close to the other kthread()
    functions. It looks much better if all the functions
    use the same scheme.

  + There will be also kthread_destroy_worker() that will
    be used close to kthread_cancel_work(). It is related
    to the init() function. Again it looks better if all
    functions use the same naming scheme.

  + there are several precedents for such init() function
    names, e.g. amd_iommu_init_device(), free_area_init_node(),
    jump_label_init_type(),  regmap_init_mmio_clk(),

  + It is not an argument but it was inconsistent even before.

072973ba67 [media] cx25821: Remove deprecated create_singlethread_workqueue
The workqueue "_irq_audio_queues" runs the audio upstream handler.
It has a single work item(&dev->_audio_work_entry) and hence doesn't
require ordering. Also, it is not being used on a memory reclaim path.
Hence, the singlethreaded workqueue has been replaced with the use of
system_wq.

System workqueues have been able to handle high level of concurrency
for a long time now and hence it's not required to have a singlethreaded
workqueue just to gain concurrency. Unlike a dedicated per-cpu workqueue
created with create_singlethread_workqueue(), system_wq allows multiple
work items to overlap executions even on the same CPU; however, a
per-cpu workqueue doesn't have any CPU locality or global ordering
guarantee unless the target CPU is explicitly specified and thus the
increase of local concurrency shouldn't make any difference.

The work item has been flushed in cx25821_stop_upstream_audio() to ensure
that nothing is pending when the driver is disconnected.

f8afaa8dbc [media] tw686x: Introduce an interface to support multiple DMA modes
Let's set the corner stone to support all the DMA modes
available on this device.

For stability reasons, the driver is currently setting DMA frame
mode, and using single DMA buffers to get the P and B buffers.
Each frame is then memcpy'ed into the user buffer.

However, other platforms might be interested in avoiding this
memcpy, or in taking advantage of the chip's DMA scatter-gather
capabilities.

To achieve this, this commit introduces a "dma_mode" module parameter,
and a tw686x_dma_ops struct. This will allow to define functions to
alloc/free DMA buffers, and to return the frames to userspace.

The memcpy-based method described above is named as dma_mode="memcpy".
Current alloc/free functions are renamed as tw686x_memcpy_xxx,
and are now used through a memcpy_dma_ops.

Linus Torvalds
643ad15d47 Merge branch 'mm-pkeys-for-linus' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tip/tip
Pull x86 protection key support from Ingo Molnar:
 "This tree adds support for a new memory protection hardware feature
  that is available in upcoming Intel CPUs: 'protection keys' (pkeys).

  There's a background article at LWN.net:

      https://lwn.net/Articles/643797/

  The gist is that protection keys allow the encoding of
  user-controllable permission masks in the pte. So instead of having a
  fixed protection mask in the pte (which needs a system call to change
  and works on a per page basis), the user can map a (handful of)
  protection mask variants and can change the masks runtime relatively
  cheaply, without having to change every single page in the affected
  virtual memory range.

  This allows the dynamic switching of the protection bits of large
  amounts of virtual memory, via user-space instructions. It also
  allows more precise control of MMU permission bits: for example the
  executable bit is separate from the read bit (see more about that
  below).

  This tree adds the MM infrastructure and low level x86 glue needed for
  that, plus it adds a high level API to make use of protection keys -
  if a user-space application calls:

        mmap(..., PROT_EXEC);

  or

        mprotect(ptr, sz, PROT_EXEC);

  (note PROT_EXEC-only, without PROT_READ/WRITE), the kernel will notice
  this special case, and will set a special protection key on this
  memory range. It also sets the appropriate bits in the Protection
  Keys User Rights (PKRU) register so that the memory becomes unreadable
  and unwritable.

  So using protection keys the kernel is able to implement 'true'
  PROT_EXEC on x86 CPUs: without protection keys PROT_EXEC implies
  PROT_READ as well. Unreadable executable mappings have security
  advantages: they cannot be read via information leaks to figure out
  ASLR details, nor can they be scanned for ROP gadgets - and they
  cannot be used by exploits for data purposes either.

  We know about no user-space code that relies on pure PROT_EXEC
  mappings today, but binary loaders could start making use of this new
  feature to map binaries and libraries in a more secure fashion.

  There is other pending pkeys work that offers more high level system
  call APIs to manage protection keys - but those are not part of this
  pull request.

  Right now there's a Kconfig that controls this feature
  (CONFIG_X86_INTEL_MEMORY_PROTECTION_KEYS) that is default enabled
  (like most x86 CPU feature enablement code that has no runtime
  overhead), but it's not user-configurable at the moment. If there's
  any serious problem with this then we can make it configurable and/or
  flip the default"

5c915c6876 [media] bttv: Width must be a multiple of 16 when capturing planar formats
On my bttv card "Hauppauge WinTV [card=10]" capturing in YV12 fmt at max
size results in a solid green rectangle being captured (all colors 0 in
YUV).

This turns out to be caused by max-width (924) not being a multiple of 16.

We've likely never hit this problem before since normally xawtv / tvtime,
etc. will prefer packed pixel formats. But when using a video card which
is using xf86-video-modesetting + glamor, only planar XVideo fmts are
available, and xawtv will chose a matching capture format to avoid needing
to do conversion, triggering the solid green window problem.

8bf77f9e70 [media] saa7134: Get rid of struct saa7134_input.tv field
The saa7134_input.tv field was used to indicate if an input had
a RF signal for TV input. This is not needed anymore, as the input

Also, due to a past bug when setting the TV standard at the
demod, all inputs should have this field set, with is wrong.

This reduces the size of the saa7134_boards by about 8KB,
on i386 (and probably twice on 64 bits), with is a nice
colateral effect:

8fc3486783 [media] saa7134: use input types, instead of hardcoding strings
Currently, the saa7134 driver is hardcoding input names on each
board entry. More modern drivers define, instead, an enum for each
input type.

While the current logic works, it adds extra complexity at the driver,
as it needs to discover the type of the input using some euristics.

Instead, let's standardize the input types and use a type, instead of
a name on all places.

That will allow further patches to properly report the input type
via VIDIOC_G_INPUT and to remove an extra field from the struct to
identify if the input is for TV.

Please notice that several boards define an input for receiving composite
signals via a S-Video connector. The name of such input was inconsistent,
so this patch cleans it and make it to be properly reported the
same way for all boards.

Instead of using the DTV properties cache directly, pass the get

This is needed because several drivers don't care enough to only
change the properties if locked. Due to that, calling

f0b0faff78 [media] cx23885-dvb: move initialization of a8293_pdata

drivers/media/pci/cx23885/cx23885-dvb.c:2174 dvb_register() info: 'a8293_pdata' is not actually initialized (unreached code).

It is not actually expected to have such initialization at

switch {
	foo = bar;

	case:
...
}

Not really sure how gcc does that, but this is something that I would
expect that different compilers would do different things.

David Howells checked with the compiler people: it's not really expected to
initialise as expected.

So, move the initialization outside the switch(), making smatch to
shut up one warning.

df9ecb0cad [media] vb2: drop v4l2_format argument from queue_setup
The queue_setup callback has a void pointer that is just for V4L2
and is the pointer to the v4l2_format struct that was passed to
VIDIOC_CREATE_BUFS. The idea was that drivers would use the information
from that struct to buffers suitable for the requested format.

After the vb2 split series this pointer is now a void pointer,
which is ugly, and the reality is that all existing drivers will
effectively just look at the sizeimage field of v4l2_format.

To make this more generic the queue_setup callback is changed:
the void pointer is dropped, instead if the *num_planes argument
is 0, then use the current format size, if it is non-zero, then
it contains the number of requested planes and the sizes array
contains the requested sizes. If either is unsupported, then return
-EINVAL, otherwise use the requested size(s).

e80bf856af [media] cx23885: fix format/crop handling
While testing the cx23885 driver with various TV standards I found
a number of bugs:

1) norm_maxw() returned 768 instead of 720 for PAL formats. This should

2) cropcap() was missing, so the pixelaspect was never known and qv4l2 would
   scale the image incorrectly. Add cropcap support.
3) cx23885_set_tvnorm() should just return 0 if the same standard was
   set again. If another standard is set, then reset the width/height and

b5dcee225c [media] include/media: split I2C headers from V4L2 core
Currently, include/media is messy, as it contains both the V4L2 core
headers and some driver-specific headers on the same place. That makes
harder to identify what core headers should be documented and what
headers belong to I2C drivers that are included only by bridge/main
drivers that would require the functions provided by them.

Let's move those i2c specific files to its own subdirectory.

The files to move were produced via the following script:
	mkdir include/media/i2c
	(cd include/media; for i in *.h; do n=`echo $i|sed s/.h$/.c/`; if [ -e ../../drivers/media/i2c/$n ]; then echo $i; git mv $i i2c/; fi; done)
	(cd include/media; for i in *.h; do n=`echo $i|sed s/.h$/.c/`; if [ -e ../../drivers/media/*/i2c/$n ]; then echo $i; git mv $i i2c/; fi; done)
	for i in include/media/*.h; do n=`basename $i`;  (for j in $(git grep -l $n); do dirname $j; done)|sort|uniq|grep -ve '^.$' > list; num=$(wc -l list|cut -d' ' -f1); if [ $num == 1 ]; then if [ "`grep i2c list`" != "" ]; then git mv $i include/media/i2c; fi; fi; done

And the references corrected via this script:
    MAIN_DIR="media/"
    PREV_DIR="media/"
    DIRS="i2c/"

    echo "Checking affected files" >&2
    for i in $DIRS; do
	for j in $(find include/$MAIN_DIR/$i -type f -name '*.h'); do
		 n=`basename $j`
		git grep -l $n
	done
    done|sort|uniq >files && (
	echo "Handling files..." >&2;
	echo "for i in \$(cat files|grep -v Documentation); do cat \$i | \\";
	(
		cd include/$MAIN_DIR;
		for j in $DIRS; do
			for i in $(ls $j); do
				echo "perl -ne 's,(include [\\\"\\<])$PREV_DIR($i)([\\\"\\>]),\1$MAIN_DIR$j\2\3,; print \$_' |\\";
			done;
		done;
		echo "cat > a && mv a \$i; done";
	);
	echo "Handling documentation..." >&2;
	echo "for i in MAINTAINERS \$(cat files); do cat \$i | \\";
	(
		cd include/$MAIN_DIR;
		for j in $DIRS; do
			for i in $(ls $j); do
				echo "  perl -ne 's,include/$PREV_DIR($i)\b,include/$MAIN_DIR$j\1,; print \$_' |\\";
			done;
		done;
		echo "cat > a && mv a \$i; done"
	);
    ) >script && . ./script

d0164adc89 mm, page_alloc: distinguish between being unable to sleep, unwilling to sleep and avoiding waking kswapd
__GFP_WAIT has been used to identify atomic context in callers that hold
spinlocks or are in interrupts. They are expected to be high priority and
have access one of two watermarks lower than "min" which can be referred
to as the "atomic reserve". __GFP_HIGH users get access to the first
lower watermark and can be called the "high priority reserve".

Over time, callers had a requirement to not block when fallback options
were available. Some have abused __GFP_WAIT leading to a situation where
an optimisitic allocation with a fallback option can access atomic
reserves.

This patch uses __GFP_ATOMIC to identify callers that are truely atomic,
cannot sleep and have no alternative. High priority users continue to use
__GFP_HIGH. __GFP_DIRECT_RECLAIM identifies callers that can sleep and
are willing to enter direct reclaim. __GFP_KSWAPD_RECLAIM to identify
callers that want to wake kswapd for background reclaim. __GFP_WAIT is
redefined as a caller that is willing to enter direct reclaim and wake
kswapd for background reclaim.

This patch then converts a number of sites

o __GFP_ATOMIC is used by callers that are high priority and have memory
  pools for those requests. GFP_ATOMIC uses this flag.

o Callers that have a limited mempool to guarantee forward progress clear
  __GFP_DIRECT_RECLAIM but keep __GFP_KSWAPD_RECLAIM. bio allocations fall
  into this category where kswapd will still be woken but atomic reserves
  are not used as there is a one-entry mempool to guarantee progress.

o Callers that are checking if they are non-blocking should use the
  helper gfpflags_allow_blocking() where possible. This is because
  checking for __GFP_WAIT as was done historically now can trigger false
  positives. Some exceptions like dm-crypt.c exist where the code intent
  is clearer if __GFP_DIRECT_RECLAIM is used instead of the helper due to
  flag manipulations.

o Callers that built their own GFP flags instead of starting with GFP_KERNEL
  and friends now also need to specify __GFP_KSWAPD_RECLAIM.

The first key hazard to watch out for is callers that removed __GFP_WAIT
and was depending on access to atomic reserves for inconspicuous reasons.
In some cases it may be appropriate for them to use __GFP_HIGH.

The second key hazard is callers that assembled their own combination of
GFP flags instead of starting with something like GFP_KERNEL. They may
now wish to specify __GFP_KSWAPD_RECLAIM. It's almost certainly harmless
if it's missed in most cases as other activity will wake kswapd.

2d7007153f [media] media: videobuf2: Restructure vb2_buffer
Remove v4l2 stuff - v4l2_buf, v4l2_plane - from struct vb2_buffer.

Add new member variables - bytesused, length, offset, userptr, fd,
data_offset - to struct vb2_plane in order to cover all information
of v4l2_plane.
struct vb2_plane {
        <snip>
        unsigned int            bytesused;
        unsigned int            length;
        union {
                unsigned int    offset;
                unsigned long   userptr;
                int             fd;
        } m;
        unsigned int            data_offset;
}

Replace v4l2_buf with new member variables - index, type, memory - which
are common fields for buffer management.
struct vb2_buffer {
        <snip>
        unsigned int            index;
        unsigned int            type;
        unsigned int            memory;
        unsigned int            num_planes;
        struct vb2_plane        planes[VIDEO_MAX_PLANES];
        <snip>
};

v4l2 specific fields - flags, field, timestamp, timecode,
sequence - are moved to vb2_v4l2_buffer in videobuf2-v4l2.c
struct vb2_v4l2_buffer {
        struct vb2_buffer       vb2_buf;

        __u32                   flags;
        __u32                   field;
        struct timeval          timestamp;
        struct v4l2_timecode    timecode;
        __u32                   sequence;

c139990e84 [media] media: videobuf2: Replace videobuf2-core with videobuf2-v4l2
Make videobuf2-v4l2 as a wrapper of videobuf2-core for v4l2-use.
And replace videobuf2-core.h with videobuf2-v4l2.h.
This renaming change should be accompanied by the modifications
of all device drivers that include videobuf2-core.h.
It can be done with just running this shell script.

5ba0e2c3ad [media] use v4l2_get_timestamp where possible
This is a preparation for a change to the type of v4l2 timestamps.
v4l2_get_timestamp() is a helper function that reads the monotonic
time and stores it into a 'struct timeval'. Multiple drivers implement
the same thing themselves for historic reasons.

Changing them all to use v4l2_get_timestamp() is more consistent
and reduces the amount of code duplication, and most importantly
simplifies the following changes.

- remove the unused ts_packet_size and ts_packet_count fields.
- fill in colorspace and field.
