aebac74493 fec: Remove fec_enet_select_queue()
Sparse complains about fec_enet_select_queue() not being static.

Feedback from David Miller [1] was to remove this function instead of making it
static:

"Please just delete this function.

It's overriding code which does exactly the same thing.

Actually, more precisely, this code is duplicating code in a way that
bypasses many core facilitites of the networking.  For example, this
override means that socket based flow steering, XPS, etc. are all
not happening on these devices.

Without ->ndo_select_queue(), the flow dissector does __netdev_pick_tx
which is exactly what you want to happen."

37d6017b84 net: fec: Workaround for imx6sx enet tx hang when enable three queues
When enable three queues on imx6sx enet, and then do tx performance
test with iperf tool, after some time running, tx hang.

Found that:
	If uDMA is running, software set TDAR may cause tx hang.
	If uDMA is in idle, software set TDAR don't cause tx hang.

There is a TDAR race condition for mutliQ when the software sets TDAR
and the UDMA clears TDAR simultaneously or in a small window (2-4 cycles).
This will cause the udma_tx and udma_tx_arbiter state machines to hang.
The issue exist at i.MX6SX enet IP.

So, the Workaround is checking TDAR status four time, if TDAR cleared by
hardware and then write TDAR, otherwise don't set TDAR.

The patch is only one Workaround for the issue ERR007885.

By default, init the interrupt coalescing frame count threshold and
timer threshold.

Supply the ethtool interfaces as below for user tuning to improve
enet performance:

	rx_coalesce_usecs
	tx_max_coalesced_frames
	tx_coalesce_usecs

Software clear the MDIO interrupt before MDIO bus access, but

For i.MX6SX enet use AXI bus, reset MAC will make system bus dead
if ENET-AXI bus has pending access (AHB bus should not have such issue).
So, disable enet with AVB MAC instead of reset MAC itself.

9fc095f136 net: fec: parser max queue number from dt file
By default, the tx/rx queue number is 1, user can config the queue number
at DTS file like this:
	fsl,num-tx-queues=<3>;
	fsl,num-rx-queues=<3>

Since i.MX6SX enet-AVB IP support multi queues, so use multi queues
interface to allocate and set up an Ethernet device.

4d494cdc92 net: fec: change data structure to support multiqueue
This patch just change data structure to support multi-queue.
Only 1 queue enabled.

Ethernet multiqueue mechanism can improve performance in SMP system.
For single hw queue, multiqueue can balance cpu loading.
For multi hw queues, multiple cores can process network packets in parallel,
and refer the article for the detail advantage for multiqueue:

9b5330edf1 net:fec: add enet refrence clock for i.MX 6SX chip
i.MX6sx enet has below clocks for user config:
clk_ipg: ipg_clk_s, ipg_clk_mac0_s, 66Mhz
clk_ahb: enet system clock, it is enet AXI clock for imx6sx.
	 For imx6sx, it alos is the clock source of interrupt coalescing.
	 The clock range: 200Mhz ~ 266Mhz.
clk_ref: refrence clock for tx and rx. For imx6sx enet RGMII mode,
	 the refrence clock is 125Mhz coming from internal PLL or external.
	 In i.MX6sx-arm2 board, the clock is from internal PLL.
	 clk_ref is optional, depends on board.
clk_enet_out: The clock can be output from internal PLL. It can supply 50Mhz
	 clock for phy. clk_enet_out is optional, depends on chip and board.
clk_ptp: 1588 ts clock. It is optional, depends on chip.

The patch add clk_ref to distiguish the different clocks.

91c0d987a9 net: fec: ptp: avoid register access when ipg clock is disabled
The current kernel hang on i.MX6SX with rootfs mount from MMC.
The root cause is that ptp uses a periodic timer to access enet register
even if ipg clock is disabled.

FEC ptp driver start one period timer to read 1588 counter register in the
ptp init function that is called after FEC driver is probed.

To save power, after FEC probe finish, FEC driver disable all clocks including
ipg clock that is needed for register access.

i.MX5x, i.MX6q/dl/sl FEC register access don't cause system hang when ipg clock
is disabled, just return zero value. But for i.MX6sx SOC, it cause system hang.

To avoid the issue, we need to check ptp clock status before ptp timer count access.

f1f02fa4f1 net: ucc_geth: make probe consistently acquire a reference to the phy node
When the driver attaches to a device that has a phy handle the probe
routine returns with a reference to that node. This reference is
correctly dropped in the error path and the remove function. In the
fixed phy case however no reference is acquired and so the error path
might drop a reference the driver isn't holding. Fix that by getting a
reference to the MAC.

fa310789a4 net: ucc_geth: drop acquired references in probe error path and remove
The ucc_geth_probe function assigns to ug_info->tbi_node and
ug_info->phy_node a value returned by of_parse_phandle which returns a
new reference. Put this reference again in the error path of
ucc_geth_probe and when removing the device.

Make sure that fs_enet_probe is left with a reference to the phy node.
In the presence of a phy handle this is already the case as
of_parse_phandle returns a reference. In the fixed phy case a call to
of_node_get is necessary. Otherwise the error path and remove function
drop a reference the driver isn't holding.

6f2c9bd85e net: gianfar: fix reference counting for phy_node
The line before the changed if condition is:

	priv->phy_node = of_parse_phandle(np, "phy-handle", 0);

. If this call succeeds priv->phy_node must not be overwritten in the if
block; otherwise the reference to the node returned by of_parse_phandle
is lost. So add a check that the if block isn't executed in this case.

Furthermore in the fixed phy case no reference is aquired for phy_node
resulting in an of_node_put without holding a reference. To fix that,
get a reference on the MAC dt node.

the packet timestamp.  Rather than duplicating the code, provide a
function to do this common work.  Model this function in the Intel

the spinlock is critical for timecounter_cyc2time() but not
ns_to_ktime().

This helps to avoid any spurious interrupts being raised after we have
fully cleaned the receive ring, while still allowing an interrupt to be
raised if we receive another packet.

next packet status to avoid potentially dropping an interrupt when a
packet is still pending.

resulting in simplified timeout handling code.

ccea296839 net: fec: better implementation of iMX6 ERR006358 quirk
Using a (delayed) workqueue for ERR006358 is not correct - a work queue
is a single-trigger device.  Once the work queue has been scheduled, it
can't be re-scheduled until it has been run.  This can cause problems -
with an appropriate packet timing, we can end up with packets queued,
but not sent by the hardware, resulting in the transmit timeout firing.

Re-implement this as per the workaround detailed in the ERR006358
documentation - if there are packets waiting to be sent when we service
the transmit ring, and we see that the transmitter is not running,
kick the transmitter to run the pending entries in the ring.

Testing here with a 10Mbit half duplex link sees the resulting iperf
TCP bandwidth increase from between 1 to 2Mbps to between 8 to 9Mbps.

Many places call fec_restart() with the second parameter being some kind
of previously saved duplex value, but only two places call it with some
other setting.  This is at odds with how the other link settings are
handled, and used to be racy before the rtnl locks were added to
fec_restart()'s various call paths.

Clean this up so all link capabilities are handled in the same way -
saved into the fec_enet_private structure, and then fec_restart() acts
on those settings.

Changing the features (receive checksumming) requires the hardware to be
reprogrammed, and also changes the checks in the receive packet
processing.

The current implementation has a race - fec_set_features() changes the
flags which alter the receive packet processing while the adapter is
active, and potentially receiving frames.  Only after we've modified
the software flag do we shutdown and reconfigure the hardware.

This can lead to packets being received and marked with a valid checksum
(via CHECKSUM_UNNECESSARY) when the hardware checksum validation has not
yet been enabled.

We must quiesce the device, then change the software configuration for
this feature, and then resume the device if it was previously running.

The resulting code structure also allows us to add other configuration
features in this path without having to quiesce and resume the network
interface and device.

fec_suspend() calls fec_stop() to stop the transmit ring while the
transmit packet processing is still active.  This can lead to the
transmit queue being restarted by an intervening packet queued for
transmission, or by the tx quirk timer expiring.

Fix this by disabling NAPI first, which will ensure that the NAPI
handlers are not running.  Then, take the transmit lock before
detaching the netif device.  This ensures that there are no races
with the transmit path - and also ensures that the watchdog won't
fire.

We can then safely stop the ethernet device itself, knowing that the
rest of the driver is safely shut down.

On resume, we bring the device back up in reverse order - we restart
the device, reattach the device (under the tx lock), and then enable
the NAPI handlers.

We also need to adjust the close function to cope with this new
sequence, so that it's possible to cleanly close down the driver
after the hardware fails to resume (eg, due to the regulator_enable()
or pinctrl calls in the resume path returning an error.)

6af42d420b net: fec: remove inappropriate calls around fec_restart()
This is the second stage to "move calls to quiesce/resume packet
processing out of fec_restart()", where we remove calls which are not
appropriate to the call site.

In the majority of cases, there is no need to detach and reattach the
interface as we are holding the queue xmit lock across the reset.  The
exception to that is in fec_resume(), where we are already detached by
the suspend function.  Here, we can remove the call to detach the
interface.

We also do not need to stop the transmit queue.  Holding the xmit lock
is enough to ensure that the transmit packet processing is not running
while we perform our task.  However, since fec_restart() always cleans
the rings, we call netif_wake_queue() (or netif_device_attach() in the
case of resume) just before dropping the xmit lock.  This prevents the
watchdog firing.

Lastly, always call napi_enable() after the device has been reattached
in the resume path so that we know that the transmit packet processing
is already in an enabled state, so we don't call netif_wake_queue()
while detached.

8ce5624f5b net: fec: only restart or stop the device if it is present and running
Avoid calling fec_restart() or fec_stop() while the device is down
or not present (iow suspended.)

Although the ndo_timeout method will only be called if the device is
present and running, we defer this to a work queue.  The work queue
can run independently, and so needs to repeat these checks to ensure
that a restart doesn't occur after the device has been taken down or
detached for suspend.  In this case, we call fec_restart() in the
resume path, so nothing is lost.

For fec_set_features, we add a call to fec_restart() in fec_enet_open()
to ensure that the hardware is appropriate programmed when the interface
is opened.  fec_set_features() call should not occur while we're
suspended, so we don't have to worry about that case.

The adjust_link needs similar treatment - this also is called from a
work queue, which may be run independently after we have taken the
device down and detached it.  In this case, we just mark the link
down and take no further action.  We will reset things appropriately
once the device is up and running again, at which point we will receive
another adjust_link callback.

Allocate, and then map the receive skb before writing any data to the
ring descriptor or storing the skb.  When freeing the receive ring
entries, unmap and free the skb, and then clear the stored skb pointer.

This means we have ring data and skb pointer in one of two states:
either both fully setup, or nothing setup.

This simplifies the cleanup, as we can use just the skb pointer to
indicate whether the descriptor is setup, and thus avoids potentially
calling dma_unmap_single() on a DMA error value.

prevents any further polls.  At this point, the driver then clears
fep->opened.  The NAPI poll function uses this to stop processing in

Therefore, this variable serves no purpose, so let's remove it.

When the network interface goes down, stop the phy to prevent further
link up status changes before taking the MAC or netif sections down.
This prevents further reception of link up events which could
potentially call fec_restart().

Since phy_stop() takes the mutex which adjust_link() runs under, we
also ensure that adjust_link() will not already be processing a link
up event.

We also need to do this when suspending as well - we don't want a
mis-timed phy state change to restart the MAC after we have stopped
it for suspend, and thus need to restart the phy when resuming.

the start_xmit function is not running.  netif_stop_queue() is not

netif_tx_disable() gives this guarantee, since it takes the transmit
queue lock while marking the queue stopped.  This will wait for the
transmit function to complete before returning.

7a16807ce1 net: fec: fix interrupt handling races
While running: while :; do iperf -c <HOST> -P 4; done, transmit timeouts
are regularly reported.  With the tx ring dumping in place, we can see
that all entries are in use, and the hardware has finished transmitting
these packets.  However, the driver has not reclaimed these ring
entries.

This can occur if the interrupt handler is invoked at the wrong moment -
eg:

	CPU0				CPU1
	fec_enet_tx()
					interrupt, IEVENT = FEC_ENET_TXF
					FEC_ENET_TXF cleared
					napi_schedule_prep()
	napi_complete()

The result is that we clear the transmit interrupt, but we don't trigger
any cleaning of the transmit ring.  Instead, use a different strategy:

- When receiving a transmit or receive interrupt, disable both tx and rx
  interrupts, but do not acknowledge them.  Schedule a napi poll.  Don't
  loop.

- When we are polled, read IEVENT, acknowledging the pending transmit
  and receive interrupts, before then going on to process the
  appropriate rings.

This allows us to avoid the race, and has a number of other advantages:
- we cut down on the number of transmit interrupts we have to process.
- we only look at the rings which have pending events.
- we gain additional throughput: the iperf total bandwidth increases
  from about 180Mbps to 240Mbps:

Setting the pause parameters causes a running network interface to be
restarted.  However, the restart forces the FEC into half-duplex mode,
whether or not the remote end is in half-duplex mode.  Misconfigured

62a02c98ce net: fec: Don't clear IPV6 header checksum field when IP accelerator enable
The commit 96c50caa51 (net: fec: Enable IP header hardware checksum)
enable HW IP header checksum for IPV4 and IPV6, which causes IPV6 TCP/UDP
cannot work. (The issue is reported by Russell King)

For FEC IP header checksum function: Insert IP header checksum. This "IINS"
bit is written by the user. If set, IP accelerator calculates the IP header
checksum and overwrites the IINS corresponding header field with the calculated
value. The checksum field must be cleared by user, otherwise the checksum
always is 0xFFFF.

So the previous patch clear IP header checksum field regardless of IP frame
type.

In fact, IP HW detect the packet as IPV6 type, even if the "IINS" bit is set,
the IP accelerator is not triggered to calculates IPV6 header checksum because
IPV6 frame format don't have checksum.

So this results in the IPV6 frame being corrupted.

The patch just add software detect the current packet type, if it is IPV6
frame, it don't clear IP header checksum field.

Add software TSO support for FEC.
This feature allows to improve outbound throughput performance.

Tested on imx6dl sabresd board, running iperf tcp tests shows:
- 16.2% improvement comparing with FEC SG patch
- 82% improvement comparing with NO SG & TSO patch

$ iperf -c 10.192.242.167 -t 3 &

During the testing, CPU loading is 30%.
Since imx6dl FEC Bandwidth is limited to SOC system bus bandwidth, the

96c50caa51 net: fec: Enable IP header hardware checksum
IP header checksum is calcalated by network layer in default.
To support software TSO, it is better to use HW calculate the
IP header checksum.

FEC hw checksum feature request the checksum field in frame
is zero, otherwise the calculative CRC is not correct.

For segmentated TCP packet, HW calculate the IP header checksum again,
it doesn't bring any impact. For SW TSO, HW calculated checksum bring
better performance.

6ce29b0e2a gianfar: Avoid unnecessary reg accesses in adjust_link()
For phy devices that don't issue interrupts upon link
state changes, phylib polls the link state resulting in
repeated calls to adjust_link(), even if the link state
didn't change.  As a result, some mac registers are
repeatedly read and written with the same values, which
is not ok.

To fix this, adjust_link() has been refactored to check
first whether the link state has changed and to take action
only if needed, updating mac registers and local state
variables.  The 'new_state' local flag, set if one of the
link params changed (link, speed or duplex), has been
rendered useless and removed by this refactoring.

c65d753372 gianfar: Fix P1010 config regression (SQ polling)
The P1010 device tree restricts the number of
supported interrupt groups to 1, although the eth
controller can support 2 interrupt groups and the
driver assumes the Multi-Group mode ("fsl,etsec2" model).

So, in this case the assumption that the Multi-Group
mode (MQ_MG_MODE) devices always support 2 interrupt
groups is false.  To fix this, a check for the actual
number of interrupt groups enabled in the board's
device tree has been added in gfar_probe for the
"fsl,etsec2" devices.

Without this fix, P1010 based boards claim support for
2 Tx queues to the net stack but only one is actually
allocated, leading to NULL access in xmit.  This issue
was introduced by enabling Single-Queue polling for
the P1010 devices.

If the Freescale fec is in promiscuous mode and network cable is
reconnected then the promiscuous mode get lost. The problem is caused

The FEC_R_CNTRL register changes are overwritten by fec_restart.

This patch fixes this by moving the call behind the init of FEC_R_CNTRL
register in fec_restart.

priv is not instantiated at gfar_of_init() time, when
parsing the DT for info on supported HW queues.  Before
the netdev can be allocated, the number of supported
queues must be known.  Because the number of supported
queues depends on device type, move the compatibility
checks before netdev allocation.  Local vars are used
to hold the operation mode info before netdev allocation.
This fixes the null accesses for priv->.., in gfar_of_init.

71ff9e3df7 gianfar: Use Single-Queue polling for "fsl,etsec2"
For the "fsl,etsec2" compatible models the driver currently
supports 8 Tx and Rx DMA rings (aka HW queues).  However, there
are only 2 pairs of Rx/Tx interrupt lines, as these controllers
are integrated in low power SoCs with 2 CPUs at most.  As a result,
there are at most 2 NAPI instances that have to service multiple
Tx and Rx queues for these devices.  This complicates the NAPI
polling routine having to iterate over the mutiple Rx/Tx queues
hooked to the same interrupt lines.  And there's also an overhead
at HW level, as the controller needs to service all the 8 Tx rings
in a round robin manner.  The combined overhead shows up for multi
parallel Tx flows transmitted by the kernel stack, when the driver
usually starts returning NETDEV_TX_BUSY leading to NETDEV WATCHDOG
Tx timeout triggering if the Tx path is congested for too long.

As an alternative, this patch makes the driver support only one
Tx/Rx DMA ring per NAPI instance (per interrupt group or pair
of Tx/Rx interrupt lines) by default.  The simplified single queue
polling routine (gfar_poll_sq) will be the default napi poll routine
for the etsec2 devices too.  Some adjustments needed to be made to
link the Tx/Rx HW queues with each NAPI instance (2 in this case).
The gfar_poll_sq() is already successfully used by older SQ_SG_MODE
(single interrupt group) controllers.
This patch fixes Tx timeout triggering under heavy Tx traffic load
(i.e. iperf -c -P 8) for the "fsl,etsec2" (currently the only
MQ_MG_MODE devices).  There's also a significant memory footprint
reduction by supporting 2 Rx/Tx DMA rings (at most), instead of 8,
for these devices.

aeb12c5ef7 gianfar: Separate out the Tx interrupt handling (Tx NAPI)
There are some concurrency issues on devices w/ 2 CPUs related
to the handling of Rx and Tx interrupts.  eTSEC has separate
interrupt lines for Rx and Tx but a single imask register
to mask these interrupts and a single NAPI instance to handle
both Rx and Tx work.  As a result, the Rx and Tx ISRs are
identical, both are invoking gfar_schedule_cleanup(), however
both handlers can be entered at the same time when the Rx and
Tx interrupts are taken by different CPUs.  In this case
spurrious interrupts (SPU) show up (in /proc/interrupts)
indicating a concurrency issue.  Also, Tx overruns followed
by Tx timeout have been observed under heavy Tx traffic load.

To address these issues, the schedule cleanup ISR part has
been changed to handle the Rx and Tx interrupts independently.
The patch adds a separate NAPI poll routine for Tx cleanup to
be triggerred independently by the Tx confirmation interrupts
only.  Existing poll functions are modified to handle only
the Rx path processing.  The Tx poll routine does not need a
budget, since Tx processing doesn't consume NAPI budget, and
hence it is registered with minimum NAPI weight.
NAPI scheduling does not require locking since there are
different NAPI instances between the Rx and Tx confirmation
paths now.
So, the patch fixes the occurence of spurrious Rx/Tx interrupts.
Tx overruns also occur less frequently now.

f19015baa2 gianfar: Fix Tx int miss, dont write IC on-the-fly
Programming the interrupt coalescing (IC) registers while
the controller/DMA is on may incur the loss of one Tx
confirmation interrupt, under certain conditions.  This is
a subtle hw race because it does not occur during a burst
of Tx packets.  It has been observed on p2020 devices that,
if just one packet is being xmit'ed, the Tx confirmation
doesn't trigger and BQL evetually blocks the Tx queues,
followed by Tx timeout and an un-responsive device.
This issue was not apparent prior to introducing BQL
support, as a late Tx confirmation was not an issue back then
and the next burst of Tx frames would have triggered the
Tx confirmation/ Tx ring cleanup anyway.

Bottom line, the hw specifications state that the IC registers
should not be programmed while the Rx/Tx blocks (the DMA) are
enabled. Further more, these registers are currently re-written
with the same values on the processing path, over and over again.
To fix this, rewriting the IC registers has been removed from
the processing path (napi poll).  A complete MAC reset procedure
has been implemented for the ethtool -c option instead, to
reliably update these registers while the controller is stopped.

0851133bb5 gianfar: Fix device reset races (oops) for Tx
The device reset procedure, stop_gfar()/startup_gfar(), has
concurrency issues.
"Kernel access of bad area" oopses show up during Tx timeout
device reset or other reset cases (like changing MTU) that
happen while the interface still has traffic. The oopses
happen in start_xmit and clean_tx_ring when accessing tx_queue->
tx_skbuff which is NULL. The race comes from de-allocating the
tx_skbuff while transmission and napi processing are still
active. Though the Tx queues get temoprarily stopped when Tx
timeout occurs, they get re-enabled as a result of Tx congestion
handling inside the napi context (see clean_tx_ring()). Not
disabling the napi during reset is also a bug, because
clean_tx_ring() will try to access tx_skbuff while it is being
de-alloc'ed and re-alloc'ed.

To fix this, stop_gfar() needs to disable napi processing
after stopping the Tx queues. However, in order to prevent
clean_tx_ring() to re-enable the Tx queue before the napi
gets disabled, the device state DOWN has been introduced.
It prevents the Tx congestion management from re-enabling the
de-congested Tx queue while the device is brought down.
An additional locking state, RESETTING, has been introduced
to prevent simultaneous resets or to prevent configuring the
device while it is resetting.
The bogus 'rxlock's (for each Rx queue) have been removed since
their purpose is not justified, as they don't prevent nor are
suited to prevent device reset/reconfig races (such as this one).

88302648be gianfar: Fix on-the-fly vlan and mtu updates
The RCTRL and TCTRL registers should not be changed
on-the-fly, while the controller is running, otherwise
unexpected behaviour occurs.  But that's exactly what
gfar_vlan_mode() does, updating the VLAN acceleration
bits inside RCTRL/TCTRL.  The attempt to lock these
operations doesn't help, but only adds to the confusion.
There's also a dependency for Rx FCB insertion (activating
/de-activating the TOE offload block on Rx) which might
change the required rx buffer size.  This makes matters
worse as gfar_vlan_mode() ends up calling gfar_change_mtu(),
though the MTU size remains the same.  Note that there are
other situations that may affect the required rx buffer size,
like changing RXCSUM or rx hw timestamping, but errorneously
the rx buffer size is not recomputed/ updated in the process.

To fix this, do the vlan updates properly inside the MAC
reset and reconfiguration procedure, which takes care of
the rx buffer size dependecy and the rx TOE block (PRSDEP)
activation/deactivation as well (in the correct order).
As a consequence, MTU/ rx buff size updates are done now
by the same MAC reset and reconfig procedure, so that out
of context updates to MAXFRM, MRBLR, and MACCFG inside
change_mtu() are no longer needed.  The rx buffer size
dependecy to Rx FCB is now handled for the other cases too
(RXCSUM and rx hw timestamping).

a328ac92d3 gianfar: Implement MAC reset and reconfig procedure
The main MAC config registers like: RCTRL/TCTRL, MRBLR,
MAXFRM, RXIC/TXIC, most fields of MACCFG1/2, should not
be changed on-the-fly, but at least after stopping the
DMA and disabling the Rx/Tx blocks and, for increased
reliability, after a MAC soft reset.

Impelement a complete MAC soft reset and reconfig procedure
following the latest HW advisories - gfar_mac_reset() - to
replace gfar_mac_init() and (the confusing) init_registers()
functions.

Factor out separate config functions for RCTRL and TCTRL,
insure programming order of the relevant config regs after
MAC soft reset.

Split gfar_hw_init() into gfar_mac_reset() and the remaining
global regs that don't need to be reconfigured after MAC soft
reset (FIFOCFG, ATTRELI, HW counters a.s.o).

As gfar_hw_init() now makes all the register writes @probe()
time, based on all the device flags and config options, it
must be moved further down, just before register_netdev(),
as the last config step when the config values are comitted
to HW.  Also, move netif_carrier_off() after register_netdev(),
because it has no effect if called before.

7cca336ae1 gianfar: Remove clean_rx_ring race from gfar_ethtool
gfar_clean_rx_ring() was designed to be called from napi
(rx softirq) context to do the Rx processing. Calling it
from a process context like this is a bug as it will
clearly race with the napi Rx processing.

There's also no point in initializing num_txbdfree since
startup_gfar() already does that, when bringing the device
up again (after reset). Changing num_txbdfree "on-the-fly"
like this is also subject to race conditions.  num_txbdfree
is handled by the Tx processing path and the device reset
procedure.  Also, don't assume that num_rx_queues is always
equal to num_tx_queues.

c10650b661 gianfar: Add missing graceful reset steps and fixes
gfar_halt() and gfar_start() are responsible for stopping
and starting the DMA and the Rx/Tx hw rings. They implement
the support for the "graceful Rx/Tx stop/start" hw procedure,
and also disable/enable eTSEC's hw interrupts in the process.

The GRS/GTS procedure requires however to have the RQUEUE/TQUEUE
registers cleared first and to wait for a period of time for the
current frame to pass through the interface (around ~10ms for a
jumbo frame). Only then may the GTS and GRS bits from DMACTRL be
set to shut down the DMA, and finally the Tx_EN and Rx_EN bits in
MACCFG1 may be cleared to disable the Tx/Rx blocks.

The same register programming order applies to start the Rx/Tx:
enabling the RQUEUE/TQUEUE *before* clearing the GRS/GTS bits.

This is a HW recommendation in order to avoid a possible
controller "lock up" during graceful reset.

Cleanup the gfar_halt()/start() prototypes, to take priv instead
of ndev as their purpose is to operate on HW. Enabling the
RQUEUE/TQUEUE in the hw_init() is not needed anymore since
that's the job of gfar_start().

Removing the sysfs stubs for the Tx FIFOCFG and ATTRELI
(stashing) config registers, as these registers may only
be configured after a MAC reset, with the controller stopped
(i.e. during hw init, at probe() time).  The current sysfs
stubs allow on-the-fly updates of these registers (the locking
measures are useless and only add unecessary code).

Changing these registers is discouraged. Only the default values
will be used instead.

Moreover, the stashing (ATTRELI) configuration options were
effectively disabled (didn't get to the hw anyway if changed)
because the stashing device_flags (HAS_BD_STASHING|HAS_BUF_STASHING)
were "accidentally" cleared during probe().

Factor out gfar_hw_init() to contain all the controller hw
initialization steps for a better control of register writes,
and to significantly simplify the tangled code from gfar_probe().
This results in code size and stack usage reduction (besides
code readability).

Fix memory leak on device removal, by freeing the rx_/tx_queue
structures.

Replace custom bit swapping function with a library one (bitrev8).

Move allocation of rx_/tx_queue struct arrays before the group
structure init, because in order to assign Rx/Tx queues
to groups we need to have the queues first.  This also allows
earlier bail out of gfar_probe(), in case the memory allocation
fails.

The flow control checks for maccfg1 were removed from gfar_probe(),
since flow control is disabled at probe time (priv->rx_/tx_pause_en
are 0). Redundant initializations (by 0) also removed.

2488a54e48 net: fec_main: dma_map() only the length of the skb
On tx submit the driver always dma_map_single() FEC_ENET_TX_FRSIZE (=2048)
bytes. This works because we don't overwrite any memory after the data buffer,
we remove it from cache if it was there. So we hurt performace in case the
mapping of a smaller area makes a difference.
There is also a bug: If the data area starts shortly before the end of
RAM say 0xc7fffa10 and the RAM ends at 0xc8000000 then we have enough
space to fit the data area (according to skb->len) but we would map beyond
end of ram if we are using 2048. In v2.6.31 (against which kernel this patch
made) there is the following check in dma_cache_maint():

|BUG_ON(!virt_addr_valid(start) || !virt_addr_valid(start + size - 1));

Since the area starting at 0xc8000000 is no longer virt_addr_valid() we
BUG() during dma_map_single(). The BUG() statement was removed in v3.5-rc1 as
per 2dc6a016 ("ARM: dma-mapping: use asm-generic/dma-mapping-common.h").

This patch was tested on v2.6.31 and then forward-ported and compile
tested only against the net tree. I think it is still worth fixing
mainline even after the BUG() statement is gone.

Because dma-debug add new interfaces to debug dma mapping errors, pls refer

After dma mapping, it must call dma_mapping_error() to check mapping error,
otherwise the map_err_type alway is MAP_ERR_NOT_CHECKED, check_unmap() define
the mapping is not checked and dump the error msg. So,add dma_mapping_error()
checking to fix the WARNING

And RX DMA buffers are used repeatedly and the driver copies it into an skb,
fec_enet_rx() should not map or unmap, use dma_sync_single_for_cpu()/dma_sync_single_for_device()
instead of dma_map_single()/dma_unmap_single().

There have another potential issue:  fec_enet_rx() passes the DMA address to __va().
Physical and DMA addresses are *not* the same thing. They may differ if the device
is behind an IOMMU or bounce buffering was required, or just because there is a fixed
offset between the device and host physical addresses. Also fix it in this patch.

Pull networking updates from David Miller:

 1) The addition of nftables.  No longer will we need protocol aware
    firewall filtering modules, it can all live in userspace.

    At the core of nftables is a, for lack of a better term, virtual
    machine that executes byte codes to inspect packet or metadata
    (arriving interface index, etc.) and make verdict decisions.

    Besides support for loading packet contents and comparing them, the
    interpreter supports lookups in various datastructures as
    fundamental operations.  For example sets are supports, and
    therefore one could create a set of whitelist IP address entries
    which have ACCEPT verdicts attached to them, and use the appropriate
    byte codes to do such lookups.

    Since the interpreted code is composed in userspace, userspace can
    do things like optimize things before giving it to the kernel.

    Another major improvement is the capability of atomically updating
    portions of the ruleset.  In the existing netfilter implementation,
    one has to update the entire rule set in order to make a change and
    this is very expensive.

    Userspace tools exist to create nftables rules using existing
    netfilter rule sets, but both kernel implementations will need to
    co-exist for quite some time as we transition from the old to the
    new stuff.

    Kudos to Patrick McHardy, Pablo Neira Ayuso, and others who have
    worked so hard on this.

 2) Daniel Borkmann and Hannes Frederic Sowa made several improvements
    to our pseudo-random number generator, mostly used for things like
    UDP port randomization and netfitler, amongst other things.

    In particular the taus88 generater is updated to taus113, and test
    cases are added.

 3) Support 64-bit rates in HTB and TBF schedulers, from Eric Dumazet
    and Yang Yingliang.

 4) Add support for new 577xx tigon3 chips to tg3 driver, from Nithin
    Sujir.

 5) Fix two fatal flaws in TCP dynamic right sizing, from Eric Dumazet,
    Neal Cardwell, and Yuchung Cheng.

 6) Allow IP_TOS and IP_TTL to be specified in sendmsg() ancillary
    control message data, much like other socket option attributes.

 7) Allow applications to specify a cap on the rate computed
    automatically by the kernel for pacing flows, via a new
    SO_MAX_PACING_RATE socket option.  From Eric Dumazet.

 8) Make the initial autotuned send buffer sizing in TCP more closely

 9) Currently early socket demux only happens for TCP sockets, but we

10) Refactor inet socket demux with the goal of improving hash demux
    performance for listening sockets.  With the main goals being able
    to use RCU lookups on even request sockets, and eliminating the

11) The bonding layer has many demuxes in it's fast path, and an RCU
    conversion was started back in 3.11, several changes here extend the

12) Allow stackability of segmentation offloads to, in particular, allow
    segmentation offloading over tunnels.  From Eric Dumazet.

13) Significantly improve the handling of secret keys we input into the
    various hash functions in the inet hashtables, TCP fast open, as
    well as syncookies.  From Hannes Frederic Sowa.  The key fundamental
    operation is "net_get_random_once()" which uses static keys.

    Hannes even extended this to ipv4/ipv6 fragmentation handling and
    our generic flow dissector.

14) The generic driver layer takes care now to set the driver data to
    NULL on device removal, so it's no longer necessary for drivers to
    explicitly set it to NULL any more.  Many drivers have been cleaned
    up in this way, from Jingoo Han.

15) Add a BPF based packet scheduler classifier, from Daniel Borkmann.

16) Improve CRC32 interfaces and generic SKB checksum iterators so that
    SCTP's checksumming can more cleanly be handled.  Also from Daniel
    Borkmann.

17) Add a new PMTU discovery mode, IP_PMTUDISC_INTERFACE, which forces
    using the interface MTU value.  This helps avoid PMTU attacks,

18) Use generic XPS for transmit queue steering rather than internal

3ba405db1c gianfar: Simplify MQ polling to avoid soft lockup
Under certain low traffic conditions, the single core
devices with multiple Rx/Tx queues (MQ mode) may reach
soft lockup due to gfar_poll not returning in proper time.
The following exception was obtained using iperf on a 100Mbit
half-duplex link, for a p1010 single core device:

53fad77375 gianfar: Enable eTSEC-20 erratum w/a for P2020 Rev1
Enable workaround for P2020/P2010 erratum eTSEC 20,
"Excess delays when transmitting TOE=1 large frames".
The impact is that frames lager than 2500-bytes for which
TOE (i.e. TCP/IP hw accelerations like Tx csum) is enabled
may see excess delay before start of transmission.
This erratum was fixed in Rev 2.0.

This should help enabling (and identifying) workarounds

ad3660c242 gianfar: Enable eTSEC-A002 erratum w/a for all parts
A002 is still in "no plans to fix" state, and applies to all
the current P1/P2 parts as well, so it's resonable to enable
its workaround by default, for all the soc's with etsec.
The impact of not enabling this workaround for affected parts
is that under certain conditons (runt frames or even frames
with RX error detected at PHY level) during controller reset,
the controller might fail to indicate Rx reset (GRS) completion.

e58f6f4fb4 powerpc/83xx: gianfar_ptp: select 1588 clock source through dts file
Currently IEEE 1588 timer reference clock source is determined through
hard-coded value in gianfar_ptp driver. This patch allows to select ptp
clock source by means of device tree file node.

For instance:

	fsl,cksel = <0>;

for using external (TSEC_TMR_CLK input) high precision timer
reference clock.

Other acceptable values:

	<1> : eTSEC system clock
	<2> : eTSEC1 transmit clock
	<3> : RTC clock input

When this attribute isn't used, eTSEC system clock will serve as
IEEE 1588 timer reference clock.

hard-coded value in gianfar_ptp driver. This patch allows to select ptp
clock source by means of device tree file node.

For instance:

	fsl,cksel = <0>;

for using external (TSEC_TMR_CLK input) high precision timer
reference clock.

Other acceptable values:

	<1> : eTSEC system clock
	<2> : eTSEC1 transmit clock
	<3> : RTC clock input

When this attribute isn't used, eTSEC system clock will serve as
IEEE 1588 timer reference clock.

50ad076ba4 gianfar: Fix reported number of sent bytes to BQL
Fix the amount of sent bytes reported to BQL by reporting the
number of bytes on wire in the xmit routine, and recording that
value for each skb in order to be correctly confirmed on Tx
confirmation cleanup.

Reporting skb->len to BQL just before exiting xmit is not correct
due to possible insertions of TOE block and alignment bytes in the
skb->data, which are being stripped off by the controller before
transmission on wire.  This led to mismatch of (incorrectly)
reported bytes to BQL b/w xmit and Tx confirmation, resulting in
Tx timeout firing, for the h/w tx timestamping acceleration case.

There's no easy way to obtain the number of bytes on wire in the Tx
confirmation routine, so skb->cb is used to convey that information
from xmit to Tx confirmation, for now (as proposed by Eric). Revived
the currently unused GFAR_CB() construct for that purpose.

0affdf347f net: fec: fix time stamping logic after napi conversion
Commit dc975382 "net: fec: add napi support to improve proformance"
converted the fec driver to the napi model. However, that commit
forgot to remove the call to skb_defer_rx_timestamp which is only
needed in non-napi drivers.

(The function napi_gro_receive eventually calls netif_receive_skb,
which in turn calls skb_defer_rx_timestamp.)

This patch should also be applied to the 3.9 and 3.10 kernels.

23402bddf9 gianfar: Add flow control support
eTSEC has Rx and Tx flow control capabilities that may be enabled
through MACCFG1[Rx_Flow, Tx_Flow] bits.  These bits must not be set
however when eTSEC is operated in Half-Duplex mode.  Unfortunately,
the driver currently sets these bits unconditionally.
This patch adds the proper handling of the PAUSE frame capability
register bits by implementing the ethtool -A interface.  When pause
autoneg is enabled, the controller uses the phy's capability to
negotiate PAUSE frame settings with the link partner and reconfigures
its Rx_Flow and Tx_Flow settings to match the capabilities of the
link partner.  If pause autoneg is off, the PAUSE frame generation
may be forced manually (ethtool -A).  Flow control is disabled by
default now.
This implementation is inspired by the tg3 driver.

Cleanup gfar_start_xmit()'s fast path by factoring out "redundant"
FCB insertion code (repeated gfar_add_fcb() calls and related)
and by reducing the number of if() clauses (i.e. if(fcb) checks).
Improve maintainability (e.g. there's less code and easier to read)
also by introducing do_csum and do_vlan to mark the other 2 Tx TOE
functionalities, following the same model as do_tstamp.
fcb_len may also be 0 now, to mark that Tx FCB insertion conditions
(do_csum, do_vlan, do_tstamp) have not been met.

02d88fb4fb gianfar: Fix Tx csum generation errata handling
Both [eTSEC76] and [eTSEC12] errata relate to Tx checksum generation
(for some MPC83xx and MCP8548 older revisions). They require the same
workaround: manual checksum computation and insertion, and disabling
the H/W Tx csum acceleration feature (per frame) through Tx FCB
(Frame Control Block) csum offload settings.

The workaround for [eTSEC76] needs to be fixed because it currently
fails to disable H/W Tx csum insertion via FCB. This patch fixes it
and provides a common workaround implementation for both Tx csum errata.

a264b981f2 net/fec: Don't let ndo_start_xmit return NETDEV_TX_BUSY without link
Don't test for having link and let hardware deal with this situation.

Without this patch I see a machine running an -rt patched Linux being
stuck in sch_direct_xmit when it looses link while there is still a
packet to be sent. In this case the fec_enet_start_xmit routine returned
NETDEV_TX_BUSY which makes the network stack reschedule the packet and
so sch_direct_xmit calls fec_enet_start_xmit again.
I failed to reproduce a complete hang without -rt, but I think the
problem exists there, too.

031916568a net: fec: workaround stop tx during errata ERR006358
If the ready bit in the transmit buffer descriptor (TxBD[R])
is previously detected as not set during a prior frame transmission,
then the ENET_TDAR[TDAR] bit is cleared at a later time, even if
additional TxBDs were added to the ring and the ENET_TDAR[TDAR]
bit is set. This results in frames not being transmitted until
there is a 0-to-1 transition on ENET_TDAR[TDAR].

Workarounds:
code can use the transmit frame interrupt flag (ENET_EIR[TXF])
as a method to detect whether the ENET has completed transmission
and the ENET_TDAR[TDAR] has been cleared. If ENET_TDAR[TDAR] is
detected as cleared when packets are queued and waiting for transmit,
then a write to the TDAR bit will restart TxBD processing.

This case main happen when loading is light. A ethernet package may
not send out utile next package put into tx queue.

How to test:
while [ true ]

	ping <IP> -s 6000 -w 2
	ping <IP> -s 4000 -w 2
	ping <IP> -s 10000 -w 2

You will see below result in overnight test.

6008 bytes from 10.192.242.116: seq=1 ttl=128 time=0.722 ms
4008 bytes from 10.192.242.116: seq=0 ttl=128 time=1001.008 ms
4008 bytes from 10.192.242.116: seq=1 ttl=128 time=1.010 ms
10008 bytes from 10.192.242.116: seq=0 ttl=128 time=0.896 ms

After apply this patch, >1000ms delay disappear.

5eaedf3131 gianfar: Add backwards compatible Single Queue mode polling
Older Single Queue (SQ_SG_MODE) devices like TSEC (i.e. mpc83xx)
don't feature the frame receive indication bits (RXF) in RSTAT.
For these and for the rest of the SQ_SG_MODE devices, provide the
appropiate polling routine that handles a single pair of Rx/Tx
BD rings, removing the overhead incurred by the multiple queues/
multiple interrupt group devices (veTSEC/ eTSEC2.0 devices).
So this is primarily a fix for the TSEC devices.

dfd93c977d net: ethernet: remove unnecessary platform_set_drvdata()
The driver core clears the driver data to NULL after device_release
or on probe failure, since commit 0998d06310
(device-core: Ensure drvdata = NULL when no driver is bound).
Thus, it is not needed to manually clear the device driver data to NULL.

7a2bbd8d8e fec: Invert the order of error path sequence
Currently when fec_enet_init fails it jumps to 'failed_init' error path, which
will attemp to free the interrupts.

This is wrong because at this point the interrupts have not even been acquired.

Swap failed_init/failed_irq to fix the error path.
