CPER records describing a firmware-first error are identified by GUID.
The ghes driver currently logs, but ignores any unknown CPER records.
This prevents describing errors that can't be represented by a standard
entry, that would otherwise allow a driver to recover from an error.
The UEFI spec calls these 'Non-standard Section Body' (N.2.3 of
version 2.8).
Add a notifier chain for these non-standard/vendor-records. Callers
must identify their type of records by GUID.
Record data is copied to memory from the ghes_estatus_pool to allow
us to keep it until after the notifier has run.

Define ACPI_GPE_USE_LOGICAL_ADDRESSES in aclinux.h and modify
acpi_os_initialize() to store the logical addresses of the FADT GPE
blocks 0 and 1 in acpi_gbl_xgpe0_block_logical_address and
acpi_gbl_xgpe1_block_logical_address, respectively, so as to allow
ACPICA to use them for accessing GPE registers in system memory,
instead of using their physical addresses and looking up the
corresponding logical addresses on every access attempt, which is
inefficient.

Modify acpi_os_map_generic_address() to return the pointer returned
by acpi_os_map_iomem() which represents the logical address
corresponding to the struct acpi_generic_address argument passed to
it or NULL if that address cannot be obtained (for example, the
argument does not represent an address in system memory or it could
not be mapped by the OS).
Among other things, that will allow the ACPI OS layer to pass the
logical addresses of the FADT GPE blocks 0 and 1 to ACPICA going
forward.

Some HW devices are created as child devices of proprietary busses,
that have a bus specific policy defining how the child devices
wires representing the devices ID are translated into IOMMU and
IRQ controllers device IDs.
Current IORT code provides translations for:
- PCI devices, where the device ID is well identified at bus level
as the requester ID (RID)
- Platform devices that are endpoint devices where the device ID is
retrieved from the ACPI object IORT mappings (Named components single
mappings). A platform device is represented in IORT as a named
component node
For devices that are child devices of proprietary busses the IORT
firmware represents the bus node as a named component node in IORT
and it is up to that named component node to define in/out bus
specific ID translations for the bus child devices that are
allocated and created in a bus specific manner.
In order to make IORT ID translations available for proprietary
bus child devices, the current ACPI (and IORT) code must be
augmented to provide an additional ID parameter to acpi_dma_configure()
representing the child devices input ID. This ID is bus specific
and it is retrieved in bus specific code.
By adding an ID parameter to acpi_dma_configure(), the IORT
code can map the child device ID to an IOMMU stream ID through
the IORT named component representing the bus in/out ID mappings.

The current codebase makes use of one-element arrays in the following
form:

but the preferred mechanism to declare variable-length types such as
these ones is a flexible array member[1][2], introduced in C99:

By making use of the mechanism above, we will get a compiler warning
in case the flexible array does not occur last in the structure,
which will help us prevent some kind of undefined behavior bugs from
being inadvertently introduced[3] to the linux codebase from now on.
This issue was found with the help of Coccinelle and audited _manually_.

The ACPICA's strategy with respect to the handling of memory mappings
associated with memory operation regions is to avoid mapping the
entire region at once which may be problematic at least in principle
(for example, it may lead to conflicts with overlapping mappings
having different attributes created by drivers). It may also be
wasteful, because memory opregions on some systems take up vast
chunks of address space while the fields in those regions actually
accessed by AML are sparsely distributed.
For this reason, a one-page "window" is mapped for a given opregion
on the first memory access through it and if that "window" does not
cover an address range accessed through that opregion subsequently,
it is unmapped and a new "window" is mapped to replace it. Next,
if the new "window" is not sufficient to acess memory through the
opregion in question in the future, it will be replaced with yet
another "window" and so on. That may lead to a suboptimal sequence
of memory mapping and unmapping operations, for example if two fields
in one opregion separated from each other by a sufficiently wide
chunk of unused address space are accessed in an alternating pattern.
The situation may still be suboptimal if the deferred unmapping
introduced previously is supported by the OS layer. For instance,
the alternating memory access pattern mentioned above may produce
a relatively long list of mappings to release with substantial
duplication among the entries in it, which could be avoided if
acpi_ex_system_memory_space_handler() did not release the mapping
used by it previously as soon as the current access was not covered
by it.
In order to improve that, modify acpi_ex_system_memory_space_handler()
to preserve all of the memory mappings created by it until the memory
regions associated with them go away.
Accordingly, update acpi_ev_system_memory_region_setup() to unmap all
memory associated with memory opregions that go away.

Recent extensions of the TPM2 ACPI table added 3 more fields
including 12 bytes of start method specific parameters and Log Area
Minimum Length (u32) and Log Area Start Address (u64). So, we define
a new structure acpi_tpm2_phy that holds these optional new fields.
The new fields allow non-UEFI systems to access the TPM2's log.

memory_failure() offlines or repairs pages of memory that have been
discovered to be corrupt. These may be detected by an external
component, (e.g. the memory controller), and notified via an IRQ.
In this case the work is queued as not all of memory_failure()s work
can happen in IRQ context.
If the error was detected as a result of user-space accessing a
corrupt memory location the CPU may take an abort instead. On arm64
this is a 'synchronous external abort', and on a firmware first
system it is replayed using NOTIFY_SEA.
This notification has NMI like properties, (it can interrupt
IRQ-masked code), so the memory_failure() work is queued. If we
return to user-space before the queued memory_failure() work is
processed, we will take the fault again. This loop may cause platform
firmware to exceed some threshold and reboot when Linux could have
recovered from this error.
For NMIlike notifications keep track of whether memory_failure() work
was queued, and make task_work pending to flush out the queue.
To save memory allocations, the task_work is allocated as part of
the ghes_estatus_node, and free()ing it back to the pool is deferred.

With a recent fix to the pinctrl-cherryview driver we now have
2 drivers open-coding the parameter building / passing for calling
_REG on an ACPI handle.
Add a helper for this, so that these 2 drivers can be converted to this
helper.

NHLT (Non-HDAudio Link Table) provides configuration of audio
endpoints for Intel SST (Smart Sound Technology) DSP products.
Similarly to other ACPI tables, data provided by BIOS may not
describe it correctly, thus overriding is required.
ACPI override mechanism checks for unknown signature before
proceeding. Update known signatures array to support NHLT.

The AMD IVRS table parsing supported only IVHD type 10h structures.
Parsing an IVHD type 11h caused the iasl to report unknown subtable type.

The check carried out by acpi_any_gpe_status_set() is not precise enough
for the suspend-to-idle implementation in Linux and in some cases it is
necessary make it skip one GPE (specifically, the EC GPE) from the check
to prevent a race condition leading to a premature system resume from
occurring.
For this reason, redefine acpi_any_gpe_status_set() to take the number
of a GPE to skip as an argument.

waking up the system") overlooked the fact that fixed events can wake
up the system too and broke RTC wakeup from suspend-to-idle as a

addition to checking wakeup GPEs and break out of the suspend-to-idle
loop if the status bits of any enabled fixed events are set then.

Introduce a new helper function, acpi_any_gpe_status_set(), for
checking the status bits of all enabled GPEs in one go.

Replace the CPU device PM QoS used for the management of min and max
frequency constraints in cpufreq (and its users) with per-policy
frequency QoS to avoid problems with cpufreq policies covering
more then one CPU.
Namely, a cpufreq driver is registered with the subsys interface
which calls cpufreq_add_dev() for each CPU, starting from CPU0, so
currently the PM QoS notifiers are added to the first CPU in the
policy (i.e. CPU0 in the majority of cases).
In turn, when the cpufreq driver is unregistered, the subsys interface
doing that calls cpufreq_remove_dev() for each CPU, starting from CPU0,
and the PM QoS notifiers are only removed when cpufreq_remove_dev() is
called for the last CPU in the policy, say CPUx, which as a rule is
not CPU0 if the policy covers more than one CPU. Then, the PM QoS
notifiers cannot be removed, because CPUx does not have them, and
they are still there in the device PM QoS notifiers list of CPU0,
which prevents new PM QoS notifiers from being registered for CPU0
on the next attempt to register the cpufreq driver.
The same issue occurs when the first CPU in the policy goes offline
before unregistering the driver.
After this change it does not matter which CPU is the policy CPU at
the driver registration time and whether or not it is online all the
time, because the frequency QoS is per policy and not per CPU.

for the case when CONFIG_ACPI=n.
Moreover, acpi_dev_put(), counterpart function, is already placed under

The cpufreq core now takes the min/max frequency constraints via QoS

In some cases it is useful to know whether or not the
acpi_ev_detect_gpe() called by acpi_dispatch_gpe() has found
the GPE to be active, so return the return value of it (whose
data type is u32) from latter.

With some upcoming patches to save/restore the Hyper-V drivers related
states, a Linux VM running on Hyper-V will be able to hibernate. When
a Linux VM hibernates, unluckily we must disable the memory hot-add/remove
and balloon up/down capabilities in the hv_balloon driver
(drivers/hv/hv_balloon.c), because these can not really work according to
the design of the related back-end driver on the host.
By default, Hyper-V does not enable the virtual ACPI S4 state for a VM;
on recent Hyper-V hosts, the administrator is able to enable the virtual
ACPI S4 state for a VM, so we hope to use the presence of the virtual ACPI
S4 state as a hint for hv_balloon to disable the aforementioned
capabilities. In this way, hibernation will work more reliably, from the
user's perspective.
By marking acpi_sleep_state_supported() non-static, we'll be able to
implement a hv_is_hibernation_supported() API in the always-built-in
module arch/x86/hyperv/hv_init.c, and the API will be called by hv_balloon.

Using acpi_device_get_power() outside of ACPI device initialization
and ACPI sysfs is problematic due to the way in which power resources
are handled by it, so unexport it and add a paragraph explaining the
pitfalls to its kerneldoc comment.

If there are shared power resources between otherwise unrelated devices
turning them on causes the other devices sharing them to be powered up
as well. In case of PCI devices go into D0uninitialized state meaning
that if they were configured to trigger wake that configuration is lost
at this point.
For this reason introduce a concept of "_PR0 dependent device" that can
be added to any ACPI device that has power resources. The dependent
device will be included in a list of dependent devices for all power
resources returned by the ACPI device's _PR0 (assuming it has one).
Whenever a power resource having dependent devices is turned physically
on (its _ON method is called) we runtime resume all of them to allow
their driver or in case of PCI the PCI core to re-initialize the device
and its wake configuration.
This adds two functions that can be used to add and remove these
dependent devices. Note the dependent device does not necessary need
share power resources so this functionality can be used to add "software
dependencies" as well if needed.

Standards such as the MIPI DisCo for SoundWire 1.0 specification
assume the _ADR field is 64 bits.
_ADR is defined as an "Integer" represented as 64 bits since ACPI 2.0
released in 2002. The low levels already use _ADR as 64 bits, e.g. in
struct acpi_device_info.
This patch bumps the representation used for sysfs to 64 bits. To
avoid any compatibility/ABI issues, the printf format is only extended
to 16 characters when the actual _ADR value exceeds the 32 bit
maximum.
Example with a SoundWire device, the results show the complete
vendorID and linkID which were omitted before:

Here is the "big" set of driver core patches for 5.2-rc1
There are a number of ACPI patches in here as well, as Rafael said they
should go through this tree due to the driver core changes they
required. They have all been acked by the ACPI developers.
There are also a number of small subsystem-specific changes in here, due
to some changes to the kobject core code. Those too have all been acked
by the various subsystem maintainers.
As for content, it's pretty boring outside of the ACPI changes:
- spdx cleanups
- kobject documentation updates
- default attribute groups for kobjects
- other minor kobject/driver core fixes
All have been in linux-next for a while with no reported issues.

The acpi_dev_get_first_match_name() is missing put_device() call
and thus keeping reference counting unbalanced.
In order to fix the issue introduce a new helper to convert existing users
one-by-one to a better API.

Rather than setting debug output flags during early init, its makes
more sense to simply re-define ACPI_DEBUG_DEFAULT specifically for
Linux.
