ARM: SoC drivers for v5.13
Updates for SoC specific drivers include a few subsystems that have their own maintainers but send them through the soc tree: TEE/OP-TEE: - Add tracepoints around calls to secure world Memory controller drivers: - Minor fixes for Renesas, Exynos, Mediatek and Tegra platforms - Add debug statistics to Tegra20 memory controller - Update Tegra bindings and convert to dtschema ARM SCMI Firmware: - Support for modular SCMI protocols and vendor specific extensions - New SCMI IIO driver - Per-cpu DVFS The other driver changes are all from the platform maintainers directly and reflect the drivers that don't fit into any other subsystem as well as treewide changes for a particular platform. USB/Thunderbolt patches for 5.13-rc1
Here is the big set of USB and Thunderbolt driver updates for 5.13-rc1. TTY/Serial driver updates for 5.13-rc1
Here is the big set of tty and serial driver updates for 5.13-rc1. Actually busy this release, with a number of cleanups happening: - much needed core tty cleanups by Jiri Slaby - removal of unused and orphaned old-style serial drivers. If anyone shows up with this hardware, it is trivial to restore these but we really do not think they are in use anymore. - fixes and cleanups from Johan Hovold on a number of termios setting corner cases that loads of drivers got wrong as well as removing unneeded code due to tty core changes from long ago that were never propagated out to the drivers - loads of platform-specific serial port driver updates and fixes - coding style cleanups and other small fixes and updates all over the tty/serial tree. Staging/IIO driver updates for 5.13-rc1
Here is the big set of staging and IIO driver updates for 5.13-rc1. Lots of little churn in here, and some larger churn as well. Major things are: - removal of wimax drivers, no one has this hardware anymore for this failed "experiment". - removal of the Google gasket driver, turns out no one wanted to maintain it or cares about it anymore, so they asked for it to be removed. - comedi finally moves out of the staging directory into drivers/comedi/ This is one of the oldest kernel subsystems around, being created in the 2.0 kernel days, and was one of the first things added to drivers/staging/ when that was created over 15 years ago. It should have been moved out of staging a long time ago, it's well maintained and used by loads of different devices in the real world every day. Nice to see this finally happen. - so many tiny coding style cleanups it's not funny. Perfect storm of at least 2 different intern project application deadlines combined to provide a huge number of new contributions in this area from people learning how to do kernel development. Great job to everyone involved here. There's also the normal updates for IIO drivers with new IIO drivers and updates all over that subsystem. iio: buffer-dma,adi-axi-adc: introduce devm_iio_dmaengine_buffer_setup()
This change does a conversion of the devm_iio_dmaengine_buffer_alloc() to devm_iio_dmaengine_buffer_setup(). This will allocate an IIO DMA buffer and attach it to the IIO device, similar to devm_iio_triggered_buffer_setup() (though the underlying code is different, the final logic is the same). Since the only user of the devm_iio_dmaengine_buffer_alloc() was the adi-axi-adc driver, this change does the replacement in a single go in the driver. iio: kfifo: un-export devm_iio_kfifo_allocate() function
At this point all drivers should use devm_iio_kfifo_buffer_setup() instead of manually allocating via devm_iio_kfifo_allocate() and assigning ops and modes. With this change, the devm_iio_kfifo_allocate() will be made private to the IIO core, since all drivers should call either devm_iio_kfifo_buffer_setup() or devm_iio_triggered_buffer_setup() to create a kfifo buffer. iio: kfifo: add devm_iio_kfifo_buffer_setup() helper
This change adds the devm_iio_kfifo_buffer_setup() helper/short-hand, which groups the simple routine of allocating a kfifo buffers via devm_iio_kfifo_allocate() and calling iio_device_attach_buffer(). The mode_flags parameter is required, as the IIO kfifo supports 2 modes: INDIO_BUFFER_SOFTWARE & INDIO_BUFFER_TRIGGERED. The setup_ops parameter is optional. This function will be a bit more useful when needing to define multiple buffers per IIO device. The naming for this function has been inspired from iio_triggered_buffer_setup() since that one does a kfifo alloc + a pollfunc alloc. So, this should have a more familiar ring to what it is. tty: rocket, remove the driver
While the driver is still marked as maintained in MAINTAINERS, Comtrol does not really care about this ancient driver. They are still manufacturing serial devices, but those are controlled only by out-of-tree drivers. Comtrol didn't answer my pings, so this driver is apparently unmaintained. Aside from that, the driver was untouched for years, only whole-tree changes happened during the past years. The driver needs much more care, so drop it for now. If someone steps up to reintroduce it, they need to clean it up first. The SSAM_DEFINE_SYNC_REQUEST_x() macros are intended to reduce
boiler-plate code for SSAM request definitions by defining a wrapper
function for the specified request. The client device variants of those
macros, i.e. SSAM_DEFINE_SYNC_REQUEST_CL_x() in particular rely on the
multi-device (MD) variants, e.g.:

`-Wmissing-prototypes' rightfully complains that there is a 'static'
keyword missing.
To solve this, make all SSAM_DEFINE_SYNC_REQUEST_x() macros define
static functions. Non-client-device macros are also changed for
consistency. In general, we expect those functions to be only used
locally in the respective drivers for the corresponding interfaces, so
having to define a wrapper function to be able to export this should be
the odd case out.

cxl for 5.12
Introduce an initial driver for CXL 2.0 Type-3 Memory Devices. CXL is Compute Express Link which released the 2.0 specification in November. The Linux relevant changes in CXL 2.0 are support for an OS to dynamically assign address space to memory devices, support for switches, persistent memory, and hotplug. A Type-3 Memory Device is a PCI enumerated device presenting the CXL Memory Device Class Code and implementing the CXL.mem protocol. CXL.mem allows device to advertise CPU and I/O coherent memory to the system, i.e. typical "System RAM" and "Persistent Memory" in Linux /proc/iomem terms. In addition to the CXL.mem fast path there is an administrative command hardware mailbox interface for maintenance and provisioning. It is this command interface that is the focus of the initial driver. With this driver a CXL device that is mapped by the BIOS can be administered by Linux. Linux support for CXL PMEM and dynamic CXL address space management are to be implemented post v5.12. |

cxl/mem: Add basic IOCTL interface
Add a straightforward IOCTL that provides a mechanism for userspace to query the supported memory device commands. CXL commands as they appear to userspace are described as part of the UAPI kerneldoc. The command list returned via this IOCTL will contain the full set of commands that the driver supports, however, some of those commands may not be available for use by userspace. Memory device commands first appear in the CXL 2.0 specification. They are submitted through a mailbox mechanism specified in the CXL 2.0 specification. The send command allows userspace to issue mailbox commands directly to the hardware. The list of available commands to send are the output of the query command. The driver verifies basic properties of the command and possibly inspect the input (or output) payload to determine whether or not the command is allowed (or might taint the kernel). cxl/mem: Register CXL memX devices
Create the /sys/bus/cxl hierarchy to enumerate: * Memory Devices (per-endpoint control devices) * Memory Address Space Devices (platform address ranges with interleaving, performance, and persistence attributes) * Memory Regions (active provisioned memory from an address space device that is in use as System RAM or delegated to libnvdimm as Persistent Memory regions). For now, only the per-endpoint control devices are registered on the 'cxl' bus. However, going forward it will provide a mechanism to coordinate cross-device interleave. cxl/mem: Find device capabilities
Provide enough functionality to utilize the mailbox of a memory device. The mailbox is used to interact with the firmware running on the memory device. The flow is proven with one implemented command, "identify". Because the class code has already told the driver this is a memory device and the identify command is mandatory. CXL devices contain an array of capabilities that describe the interactions software can have with the device or firmware running on the device. A CXL compliant device must implement the device status and the mailbox capability. Additionally, a CXL compliant memory device must implement the memory device capability. Each of the capabilities can [will] provide an offset within the MMIO region for interacting with the CXL device. The capabilities tell the driver how to find and map the register space for CXL Memory Devices. The registers are required to utilize the CXL spec defined mailbox interface. The spec outlines two mailboxes, primary and secondary. The secondary mailbox is earmarked for system firmware, and not handled in this driver. Primary mailboxes are capable of generating an interrupt when submitting a background command. That implementation is saved for a later time. cxl/mem: Introduce a driver for CXL-2.0-Type-3 endpoints
The CXL.mem protocol allows a device to act as a provider of "System RAM" and/or "Persistent Memory" that is fully coherent as if the memory was attached to the typical CPU memory controller. With the CXL-2.0 specification a PCI endpoint can implement a "Type-3" device interface and give the operating system control over "Host Managed Device Memory". See section 2.3 Type 3 CXL Device. The memory range exported by the device may optionally be described by the platform firmware memory map, or by infrastructure like LIBNVDIMM to provision persistent memory capacity from one, or more, CXL.mem devices. A pre-requisite for Linux-managed memory-capacity provisioning is this cxl_mem driver that can speak the mailbox protocol defined in section 8.2.8.4 Mailbox Registers. The V4L2 temporary clock helper API, was introduced in late 2012 and, as mentioned in the documentation, meant to be replaced by the generic clock API, once the generic clock framework became available on all relevant architectures. The generic clock API is a well-established API (since a few years now). The last few media capture drivers and sensors using v4l2-clk have been converted to the generic clock framework. We can now remove the v4l2-clk API. Current link died, according to Wayback Machine, back in 2017. And the website is completely down since 2019. Moreover, there was a custom cover on that PDF, i.e. it was modified. According to HDMI licence agreement (LA), HDMI specification and technical information are supposed to be hosted on www.hdmi.org exclusively, and not redistributed by third-parties. Sure, there are still many more or less reliable "mirrors" out there with a direct download straight from a search engine's page. However, for example, from FPGA4fun[1] website it was removed "per HDMI LA request". Unfortunately, the official download page is protected by email CAPTCHA, but that seems to be the only legit way to obtain a copy. platform/surface: Add Surface ACPI Notify driver
The Surface ACPI Notify (SAN) device provides an ACPI interface to the Surface Aggregator EC, specifically the Surface Serial Hub interface. This interface allows EC requests to be made from ACPI code and can convert a subset of EC events back to ACPI notifications. Specifically, this interface provides a GenericSerialBus operation region ACPI code can execute a request by writing the request command data and payload to this operation region and reading back the corresponding response via a write-then-read operation. Furthermore, this interface provides a _DSM method to be called when certain events from the EC have been received, essentially turning them into ACPI notifications. The driver provided in this commit essentially takes care of translating the request data written to the operation region, executing the request, waiting for it to finish, and finally writing and translating back the response (if the request has one). Furthermore, this driver takes care of enabling the events handled via ACPI _DSM calls. Lastly, this driver also exposes an interface providing discrete GPU (dGPU) power-on notifications on the Surface Book 2, which are also received via the operation region interface (but not handled by the SAN driver directly), making them accessible to other drivers (such as a dGPU hot-plug driver that may be added later on). On 5th and 6th generation Surface devices (Surface Pro 5/2017, Pro 6, Book 2, Laptop 1 and 2), the SAN interface provides full battery and thermal subsystem access, as well as other EC based functionality. On those models, battery and thermal sensor devices are implemented as standard ACPI devices of that type, however, forward ACPI calls to the corresponding Surface Aggregator EC request via the SAN interface and receive corresponding notifications (e.g. battery information change) from it. This interface is therefore required to provide said functionality on those devices. platform/surface: Add Surface Aggregator user-space interface
Add a misc-device providing user-space access to the Surface Aggregator EC, mainly intended for debugging, testing, and reverse-engineering. This interface gives user-space applications the ability to send requests to the EC and receive the corresponding responses. The device-file is managed by a pseudo platform-device and corresponding driver to avoid dependence on the dedicated bus, allowing it to be loaded in a minimal configuration. A python library and scripts to access this device can be found at [1].
