Commit 37706996 "mlx4_en: fix allocation of CPU affinity reverse-map" fixed
a bug when mlx4_dev->caps.comp_pool is larger from the device rx rings, but
introduced a regression.
When the mlx4_core is activating its "legacy mode" (e.g when running in SRIOV
mode) w.r.t to EQs/IRQs usage, comp_pool becomes zero and we're crashing on
divide by zero alloc_cpu_rmap.
Fix that by enabling RFS only when running in non-legacy mode.

The set_param_l function assumes casting a u64 pointer to a u32 pointer
allows to access the lower 32bits, but it results in writing the upper
32 bits on big endian systems.
The fixed function reads the upper 32 bits of the 64 argument, and or's
them with the 32 bits of the 32-bit value passed to the function.
Since this is now a "read-modify-write" operation, we got many
"unintialized variable" warnings which needed to be fixed as well.

Allocating 2 buffers per page is insanely inefficient when MTU is 1500
and PAGE_SIZE is 64K (as it usually is on POWER). Allocate as many as
we can fit, and choose the refill batch size at run-time so that we
still always use a whole page at once.
[bwh: Fix loop condition to allow for compound pages; rebase]
Signed-off-by: Ben Hutchings <bhutchings@solarflare.com>
On POWER systems, DMA mapping/unmapping operations are very expensive.
These changes reduce these costs by trying to reuse DMA mapped pages.
After all the buffers associated with a page have been processed and
passed up, the page is placed into a ring (if there is room). For
each page that is required for a refill operation, a page in the ring
is examined to determine if its page count has fallen to 1, ie. the
kernel has released its reference to these packets. If this is the
case, the page can be immediately added back into the RX descriptor
ring, without having to re-map it for DMA.
If the kernel is still holding a reference to this page, it is removed
from the ring and unmapped for DMA. Then a new page, which can
immediately be used by RX buffers in the descriptor ring, is allocated
and DMA mapped.
The time a page needs to spend in the recycle ring before the kernel
has released its page references is based on the number of buffers
that use this page. As large pages can hold more RX buffers, the RX
recycle ring can be shorter. This reduces memory usage on POWER
systems, while maintaining the performance gain achieved by recycling
pages, following the driver change to pack more than two RX buffers
into large pages.
When an IOMMU is not present, the recycle ring can be small to reduce
memory usage, since DMA mapping operations are inexpensive.
With a small recycle ring, attempting to refill the descriptor queue
with more buffers than the equivalent size of the recycle ring could
ultimately lead to memory leaks if page entries in the recycle ring
were overwritten. To prevent this, the check to see if the recycle
ring is full is changed to check if the next entry to be written is
NULL.
[bwh: Combine and rebase several commits so this is complete
before the following buffer-packing changes. Remove module
parameter.]

Enable RX DMA scattering iff an RX buffer large enough for the current
MTU will not fit into a single page and the NIC supports DMA
scattering for kernel-mode RX queues.
On Falcon and Siena, the RX_USR_BUF_SIZE field is used as the DMA
limit for both all RX queues with scatter enabled. Set it to 1824,
matching what Onload uses now.
Maintain a statistic for frames truncated due to lack of descriptors
(rx_nodesc_trunc). This is distinct from rx_frm_trunc which may be
incremented when scattering is disabled and implies an over-length
frame.
Whenever an MTU change causes scattering to be turned on or off,
update filters that point to the PF queues, but leave others
unchanged, as VF drivers assume scattering is off.
Add n_frags parameters to various functions, and make them iterate:
- efx_rx_packet()
- efx_recycle_rx_buffers()
- efx_rx_mk_skb()
- efx_rx_deliver()
Make efx_handle_rx_event() responsible for updating
efx_rx_queue::removed_count.
Change the RX pipeline state to a starting ring index and number of
fragments, and make __efx_rx_packet() responsible for clearing it.

efx_filter_insert_filter() uses the first table entry in the hash chain
that either has the same match values or is empty. This means that
replacement doesn't always work correctly:
1. Insert filter F1 with match values M1, hashing to H1, at first
possible entry E1.
2. Insert filter F2 with match values M2, hashing to H1, at second
possible entry E2.
3. Remove filter F1.
4. Insert filter F3 with match values M2, hashing to H1, at first
possible entry E1.
F3 should have either replaced F2 or been rejected (depending on
priority and the replace_equal parameter).
Instead, search for both a matching filter that the inserted filter
would replace, and an available insertion point, up to the applicable
maximum search depths. If we insert at lower depth than a replaced
filter, clear the replaced filter.

efx_filter_search() is only called from efx_filter_insert(), and
neither function is very long. The following bug fix requires a more
sophisticated search with a third result, which is going to be easier
to implement as part of the same function.
Signed-off-by: Ben Hutchings <bhutchings@solarflare.com>
These functions happen to work for default MAC filters: they generate
an initial index of 1/0 for unicast/multicast respectively and an
increment of 1 for either, so a search succeeds at depth 2. But this
is a matter of luck rather than design, and it really won't work well
with the bug fix we're about to do.

The 'for_insert' parameter is redundant since there are no longer
any other operations that need to search based on a filter spec.
Signed-off-by: Ben Hutchings <bhutchings@solarflare.com>
The 'replace' flag to efx_filter_insert_filter() controls whether the
new filter may replace *any* filter, and is checked even before
priority comparison. But lower-priority filters should never
block insertion of higher-priority filters.
Change the priority checking so that lower-priority filters are
replaced regardless of the value of the flag, and rename the
flag to 'replace_equal'.

[bwh: Remove more dead code, and make efx_ptp_rx() pull the data it

There is a long-standing problem with the packet-timestamp matching in
the driver. When a PTP packet is received by the MC, the FPGA
timestamps the packet and the MC sends the timestamp and 6 bytes of
the UUID to the driver. The driver then matches the timestamp against
received packets using the same 6 bytes of UUID.
The problem comes from the choice of which 6 bytes to use. The PTP
spec is slightly contradictory and misleading in one of the two places
where the UUIDs are discussed. From section 7.2.2.2 of the spec, a
PTPD2 UUID can be either a EUI-64 or a EUI-64 constructed from a
EUI-48. The typical ethernet based implementation uses a EUI-64
constructed from a EUI-48. This works by taking the first 3 bytes of
the MAC address of the NIC being used for PTP (the OUI), then
inserting 0xFF, 0xFE, then taking the last 3 bytes of the MAC address
giving
MAC[0], MAC[1], MAC[2], 0xFF, 0xFE, MAC[3], MAC[4], MAC[5]
The current MC firmware and driver discard the first two bytes of this
UUID and packets are matched against timestamps using bytes 2 to 7 so
there is a small risk that in a deployment of Solarflare PTP NICs used
with other vendors NICs, that a PTP packet could be matched against
the wrong timestamp. This applies to all other organisations whose
third byte of the OUI is 0x53. It's a long list but I notice that it
includes Cisco.
The necessary modifications to use bytes 0-2 and 5-7 of the UUID to
match against are quite small but introduce incompatibility between
older version of the firmware and driver.
When PTP is enabled via SO_TIMESTAMPING specifying PTP V2, the driver
will try to enable PTP in the firmware using the enhanced mode
(above). If the firmware returns an error, the driver will enable PTP
in the firmware using the old mode.

fills in the protocol header fields. One field is the data offset
which is currently fixed to zero meaning the data follows right

This behavior triggered the following WARN_ON in the driver:

"The patches from Dor fix a bunch of calibration issues in the new MVM

decided to disable 8k A-MSDU by default, so that's in there. My own
patches are addressing an issue we found with the new devices but that
seems to also exist on older ones, the DMA writeback the devices do can
be delayed and cause issues. The fix is unfortunately relatively large
and depends on two other changes (to not be hugely conflicting), but I
think it's still worth it at this point."
As Johannes says, it is a bit large. But I hope it is still early
enough in the cycle to make that worthwhile.

efx_device_detach_sync() locks all TX queues before marking the device
detached and thus disabling further TX scheduling. But it can still
be interrupted by TX completions which then result in TX scheduling in

mac80211 tells us when we need to dump the frames from the

Being able to differentiate between the different cases
(IEEE80211_AMPDU_TX_STOP_*) allows us to handle races better.
When the station is removed, mac80211 asks to flush and
removes the station right away.
This allows to avoid a case where we still have frames in

When we stop an AGG session, we need to look at the sequence
numbers in in the private area of the ieee80211_sta struct.
This allows us to know is the queue is empty. To get access
to this private area, we use fw_id_to_mac_id that maps
sta_id (index of the STA in fw table) to ieee80211_sta.
When the STA exists in fw, but not in mac80211, we set
an ERR ptr in fw_id_to_mac_id.
But if we first set an ERR ptr to fw_id_to_mac_id, and only
then flush the queues, then we won't be able to access the
sequence numbers in ieee80211_sta from the reclaim flow.
This means that we will never be able to release an AGG
queue when a station is deleted.
So first, flush the queue. That will let the reclaim flow

queue as needed, and only then, remove the mapping in

The station change API isn't being checked properly before
drivers are called, and as a result it is difficult to see
what should be allowed and what not.
In order to comprehensively check the API parameters parse
everything first, and then have the driver call a function
(cfg80211_check_station_change()) with the additionally
information about the kind of station that is being changed;
this allows the function to make better decisions than the
old code could.
While at it, also add a few checks, particularly in mesh
and clarify the TDLS station lifetime in documentation.
To be able to reduce a few checks, ignore any flag set bits
when the mask isn't set, they shouldn't be applied then.

While PCI card faces EEH errors, reset (usually hot reset) is
expected to recover from the EEH errors. After EEH core finishes
the reset, the driver callback (be_eeh_reset) is called and wait
the firmware to complete POST successfully. The original code would
return with error once detecting failure during POST stage. That
seems not enough.
The patch forces the driver (be_eeh_reset) to wait the firmware
completes POST until timeout, instead of returning error upon
detection POST failure immediately. Also, it would improve the
reliability of the EEH funtionality of the driver.

If not, the conntrack/nat info bond to the origin packet may continually
redirect the packet to vxlan interface causing a routing loop.

===================
This series contains fixes to e1000e and igb.
The e1000e fix resolves an issue at 1000Mbps link speed, where one of the
MAC's internal clocks can be stopped for up to 4us when entering K1 (a
power mode of the MAC-PHY interconnect). If the MAC is waiting for
completion indications for 2 DMA write requests into Host memory
(e.g. descriptor writeback or Rx packet writing) and the
indications occur while the clock is stopped, both indications will be
missed by the MAC causing the MAC to wait for the completion indications
and be unable to generate further DMA write requests. This results in an
apparent hardware hang. The patch works-around the issue by disabling
the de-assertion of the clock request when 1000Mbps link is acquired (K1
must be disabled while doing this).
The igb fix to drop BUILD_BUG_ON check from igb_build_rx_buffer resolves
a build error on s390 devices. The igb driver was throwing a build error
due to the fact that a frame built using build_skb would be larger than 2K.
Since this is not likely to change at any point in the future we are better
off just dropping the check since we already had a check in
igb_set_rx_buffer_len that will just disable the usage of build_skb anyway.
The igb fix for i210 link setup changes the setup copper link function
to use a switch statement, so that the appropriate setup link function
is called for the given PHY types.
Lastly, the igb fix for a lockdep issue in igb_get_i2c_client resolves
the issue by re-factoring the initialization and usage of the i2c_client.

This flow happens when we get a failed single Tx response
on an AMPDU queue. In this case, the frame won't be sent
any more. So we need to move the window on the recipient
side. This is done by a BAR.
Now if we are in the following case: 10, 12 and 13 are ACKed
and 11 isn't.
10 11 12 13.
V X V V
Then, 11 will be sent 16 times as an MPDU (as oppsed to
A-MPDU). If this failed, we are entering the flow described
above. So we need to send a BAR with ssn = 12.
But in this case, the scheduler will tell us to free frames
up to 13 (included).
So, it is perfectly possible to get a failed single Tx
response on an AMPDU queue that makes the scheduler's ssn
jump by more than 1 single packet.

Recently in commit 8a964f44e0
("iwlwifi: always copy first 16 bytes of commands") we fixed
the problem that the hardware writes back to the command and
that could overwrite parts of the data that was still needed
and would thus be corrupted.
Investigating this problem more closely we found that this
write-back isn't really ordered very well with respect to
other DMA traffic. Therefore, it sometimes happened that the
write-back occurred after unmapping the command again which
is clearly an issue and could corrupt the next allocation
that goes to that spot, or (better) cause IOMMU faults.
To fix this, allocate coherent memory for the first 16 bytes
of each command, containing the write-back part, and use it
for all queues. All the dynamic DMA mappings only need to be
TO_DEVICE then. This ensures that even when the write-back
happens "too late" it can't hit memory that has been freed
or a mapping that doesn't exist any more.
Since now the actual command is no longer modified, we can
also remove CMD_WANT_HCMD and get rid of the DMA sync that
was necessary to update the scratch pointer.

Supporting 8K A-MSDU means that we need to allocate order 1
pages for every Rx packet. Even when there is no traffic.
This adds stress on the memory manager. The handling of
compound pages is also less trivial for the memory manager
and not using them will make the allocation code run faster
although I didn't really measure.
Eric also pointed out that having huge buffers with little
data in them is not very nice towards the TCP stack since
the truesize of the skb is huge. This doesn't allow TCP
to have a big Rx window.
See https://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/2167711/ for details.

The reason we mapped them bidirectionally was that not doing
so had caused IOMMU exceptions, due to the fact that the HW
writes back into the command. Now that the first part of the
command including the write-back part is always in the first
buffer, we don't need to map the remaining buffer(s) bidi
and can get rid of the special-casing for commands.

I'm not sure why, but the hlist for each entry iterators were conceived
list_for_each_entry(pos, head, member)
The hlist ones were greedy and wanted an extra parameter:
hlist_for_each_entry(tpos, pos, head, member)
Why did they need an extra pos parameter? I'm not quite sure. Not only
they don't really need it, it also prevents the iterator from looking
exactly like the list iterator, which is unfortunate.
Besides the semantic patch, there was some manual work required:
- Fix up the actual hlist iterators in linux/list.h
- Fix up the declaration of other iterators based on the hlist ones.
- A very small amount of places were using the 'node' parameter, this
was modified to use 'obj->member' instead.
- Coccinelle didn't handle the hlist_for_each_entry_safe iterator
properly, so those had to be fixed up manually.

On many different chips, important aspects of the MAC state are not
fully cleared by a warm reset. This can show up as tx/rx hangs, those
annoying "DMA failed to stop in 10 ms..." messages or other quirks.
On AR933x, the chip can occasionally get stuck in a way that only a
driver unload/reload or a reboot would bring it back to life.
With this patch, a full reset is issued when bringing the chip out of
FULL-SLEEP state (after idle), or if either Rx or Tx was not shut down
properly. This makes the DMA related error messages disappear completely
in my tests on AR933x, and the chip does not get stuck anymore.

The ath9k commit 2ef167557c
(ath9k: fix signal strength reporting issues) fixed an issue where the
reported per-frame signal strength reported to mac80211 was being
overwritten with an internal average. The same issue is also present
in ath9k_htc.
In addition to preventing the driver from overwriting the value, this
commit also ensures that the internal average (which is used for ANI)
only tracks beacons of the AP that we're connected to.

RSSI is being stored internally as s8 in several places. The indication
of an unset RSSI value, ATH_RSSI_DUMMY_MARKER, was supposed to have been
set to 127, but ended up being set to 0x127 because of a code cleanup
mistake. This could lead to invalid signal strength values in a few
places.

This USB ethernet adapter was purchased in anodyne packaging
from the computer store adjacent to linux.conf.au 2013 in
Canberra (Australia). A web search shows other recent
purchasers in Lancaster (UK) and Seattle (USA). Just like an
emergent virus, our age of e-commerce and airmail allows
underdocumented hardware to spread around the world instantly
using the vector of ridiculously low prices.
Paige Thompson, infected via eBay, discovered that the HG20F9
is a copy of the Asix 88772B; many viruses copy the RNA of
other viruses. See Paige's work at
<https://github.com/paigeadele/HG20F9>.
This patch uses her discovery to update the restructured Asix
driver in the current kernel.
Just as some viruses inhabit seemingly-healthy cells, the
HG20F9 uses the Vendor ID 0x066b assigned to Linksys Inc.
For the present there is no clash of Product ID 0x20f9.

When stations are removed while packets are in the queue,
we drain the queues first, and then remove the stations.
If this happens in AP mode while the interface is removed
the MAC context might be removed from the firmware before
we removed the station(s), resulting in a SYSASSERT 3421.
This is because we remove the MAC context from the FW in
stop_ap(), but only flush the station drain work later in
remove_interface().
Refactor the code a bit to have a common MAC context
removal preparation first to solve this.

The FH hardware will always write back to the scratch field
in commands, even host commands not just TX commands, which
can overwrite parts of the command. This is problematic if
the command is re-used (with IWL_HCMD_DFL_NOCOPY) and can
cause calibration issues.
Address this problem by always putting at least the first
16 bytes into the buffer we also use for the command header
and therefore make the DMA engine write back into this.
For commands that are smaller than 16 bytes also always map
enough memory for the DMA engine to write back to.

We must only ever stop TX queues when they are full or the net device
is not 'ready' so far as the net core, and specifically the watchdog,
is concerned. Otherwise, the watchdog may fire *immediately* if no
packets have been added to the queue in the last 5 seconds.
The device is ready if all the following are true:
(a) It has a qdisc
(b) It is marked present
(c) It is running
(d) The link is reported up
(a) and (c) are normally true, and must not be changed by a driver.
(d) is under our control, but fake link changes may disturb userland.
This leaves (b). We already mark the device absent during reset
and self-test, but we need to do the same during MTU changes and ring
reallocation. We don't need to do this when the device is brought
down because then (c) is already false.

We assume that the mapping between DMA and virtual addresses is done
on whole pages, so we can find the page offset of an RX buffer using
the lower bits of the DMA address. However, swiotlb maps in units of
2K, breaking this assumption.
Add an explicit page_offset field to struct efx_rx_buffer.

We may currently allocate two RX DMA buffers to a page, and only unmap
the page when the second is completed. We do not sync the first RX
buffer to be completed; this can result in packet loss or corruption
if the last RX buffer completed in a NAPI poll is the first in a page
and is not DMA-coherent. (In the middle of a NAPI poll, we will
handle the following RX completion and unmap the page *before* looking
at the content of the first buffer.)

The full output is available at http://lkml.indiana.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/1302.3/00060.html.
To summarize, commit 6b6fa58 added a 'cancel_work_sync(&wl->firmware_load)'
call in the wrong place.
The fix is to move the cancel_work_sync() call to b43_bcma_remove() and
b43_ssb_remove(). Thanks to Johannes Berg and Michael Buesch for help in
diagnosing the log output.

Noticed that vmxnet3's get_ringparam function was returning the summation of all
ring buffers on a NIC, rather than just the size of any one ring. This causes
problems when a vmxnet3 instance has multiple queues, as ethtool, when setting
ring parameters, first gets the current ring parameters to set the existing
values in the set_ringparm commannd. The result is, that unless both rx and tx
ring sizes are set in a single operation, which ever ring is not set will
silently have its ring count multiplied by the number of queues on the NIC until
it reaches a driver defined maxiumum value.
Fix it by not multiplying the rx and tx ring sizes by the number of queues in
the system, like every other driver. Tested by myself successfully.

"So from the depth of frozen Minnesota, here's the powerpc pull request
for 3.9. It has a few interesting highlights, in addition to the
usual bunch of bug fixes, minor updates, embedded device tree updates
and new boards:
- Hand tuned asm implementation of SHA1 (by Paulus & Michael
Ellerman)
- Support for Doorbell interrupts on Power8 (kind of fast
thread-thread IPIs) by Ian Munsie
- Long overdue cleanup of the way we handle relocation of our open
firmware trampoline (prom_init.c) on 64-bit by Anton Blanchard
- Support for saving/restoring & context switching the PPR (Processor
Priority Register) on server processors that support it. This
allows the kernel to preserve thread priorities established by
userspace. By Haren Myneni.
- DAWR (new watchpoint facility) support on Power8 by Michael Neuling
- Ability to change the DSCR (Data Stream Control Register) which
controls cache prefetching on a running process via ptrace by
Alexey Kardashevskiy
- Support for context switching the TAR register on Power8 (new
branch target register meant to be used by some new specific
userspace perf event interrupt facility which is yet to be enabled)
by Ian Munsie.
- Improve preservation of the CFAR register (which captures the
origin of a branch) on various exception conditions by Paulus.
- Move the Bestcomm DMA driver from arch powerpc to drivers/dma where
it belongs by Philippe De Muyter
- Support for Transactional Memory on Power8 by Michael Neuling
(based on original work by Matt Evans). For those curious about
the feature, the patch contains a pretty good description."

The mlx4_en driver allocates the number of objects for the CPU affinity
reverse-map based on the number of rx rings of the device. However,
mlx4_assign_eq() calls irq_cpu_rmap_add() as many times as IRQ's are
assigned to EQ's, which can be as large as mlx4_dev->caps.comp_pool. If
caps.comp_pool is larger than rx_ring_num we will eventually hit the
BUG_ON() in cpu_rmap_add().
Fix this problem by allocating space for the maximum number of CPU
affinity reverse-map objects we might want to add.

Unload sequence for mwifiex PCIE driver is as follows:
1. Invoking cleanup module from kernel results into
pci_unregister_driver
2. Kernel invokes PCIE remove() handler which disconnects all
interfaces.
3. One step during disconnect is to clean PCIE TX rings.
During this we read txbd_rdptr from FW.
While loading driver next time, we see pci_enable_device()
results into system freeze. This may have happened because we
accessed PCI device after unregistering from bus driver.

Converting more ARM platforms to multiplatform support. This time, OMAP
gets converted, which is a major step since this is by far the largest
platform in terms of code size. The same thing happens to the vt8500
platform.
Conflicts include:
* Two mach/uncompress.h files are removed, the changes made to them
elsewhere can be discarded now.
* Moving the OMAP4 irq_match array has context clashes with turning
omap4_sar_ram_init into an omap_early_initcall()

Here is the big driver core merge for 3.9-rc1
There are two major series here, both of which touch lots of drivers all
over the kernel, and will cause you some merge conflicts:
- add a new function called devm_ioremap_resource() to properly be
able to check return values.
- remove CONFIG_EXPERIMENTAL
If you need me to provide a merged tree to handle these resolutions,
please let me know.
Other than those patches, there's not much here, some minor fixes and

workqueue interfaces which are deprecated and/or misleading.
This round drops a number of usages of [delayed_]work_pending(), which
are dangerous as they lack any form of synchronization and thus often
lead to buggy / unnecessary code. There are a couple legitimate use
cases in kernel. Hopefully, they can be converted and
[delayed_]work_pending() can be removed completely. Even if not,

This change is incorrect, as per Jan Beulich:
====================
But this is wrong from all we can tell, we discussed this before
(Wei pointed to the discussion in an earlier reply). The core of
it is that the put here parallels the one in netbk_tx_err(), and
the one in xenvif_carrier_off() matches the get from
xenvif_connect() (which normally would be done on the path
coming through xenvif_disconnect()).

This patch fixes the following inconsistencies in bond_release_all:
- IFF_BONDING flag is not stripped from slaves
- MTU is not restored
- no netdev notifiers are sent
Instead of trying to keep bond_release and bond_release_all in sync
I think we can re-use bond_release as the environment for calling it
is correct (RTNL is held). I have been running tests for the past
week and they came out successful. The only way for bond_release to fail
is for the slave to be attached in a different bond or to not be a slave
but that cannot happen as RTNL is held and no slave manipulations can be
achieved.
V2: As suggested bond_release is renamed to __bond_release_one with a
new parameter "all" introduced so to avoid calling unnecessary code while
destroying a bond, and a wrapper for it called bond_release is created
because of ndo_del_link. bond_release_all() is removed.

rtlwifi allocates both setup_packet and data buffer of control message urb,
using shared kmalloc in _usbctrl_vendorreq_async_write. Structure used for
allocating is:
struct {
u8 data[254];
struct usb_ctrlrequest dr;
};
Because 'struct usb_ctrlrequest' is __packed, setup packet is unaligned and
DMA mapping of both 'data' and 'dr' confuses ARM/sunxi, leading to memory
corruptions and freezes.
Patch changes setup packet to be allocated separately.

Thomas and 64-bit station byte counters from Vladimir. I also made a
number of changes myself, some related to WoWLAN, some auth/deauth
improvements and most of them BSS list cleanups."
"This time, I have relatively large number of fixes in various areas of
the code (a memory leak in regulatory, an RX race in mac80211, the new
radar checking caused a P2P device problem, some mesh issues with
stations, an older bug in tracing and for kernel-doc) as well as a
number of small new features. The biggest (in the diffstat) is my work
on hidden SSID tracking."
"Please pull to get
* radar detection work from Simon
* mesh improvements from Thomas
* a connection monitoring/powersave fix from Wojciech
* TDLS-related station management work from Jouni
* VLAN crypto fixes from Michael Braun
* CCK support in minstrel_ht from Felix
* an SMPS (not SMSP, oops) related improvement in mac80211 (Emmanuel)
* some WoWLAN work from Amitkumar Karwar: pattern match offset and a
documentation fix
* some WoWLAN work from myself (TCP connection wakeup feature API)
* and a lot of VHT (and some HT) work (also from myself)
And a number of more random cleanups/fixes. I merged mac80211/master to
avoid a merge problem there."
And regarding iwlwifi-next, Johannes says:
"We continue work on our new driver, but I also have a WoWLAN and AP mode
improvement for the previous driver and a change to use threaded
interrupts to prepare us for working with non-PCIe devices."
Regarding wl12xx, Luca says:
"A few more patches intended for 3.9. Mostly some clean-ups I've been
doing to make it easier to support device-tree. Also including one bug
fix for wl12xx where the rates we advertise were wrong and an update in
the wlconf structure to support newer firmwares."
For the nfc-next bits, Samuel says:
"This is the second NFC pull request for 3.9.
We have:
- A few pn533 fixes on top of Waldemar refactorization of the driver, one of
them fixes target mode.
- A new driver for Inside Secure microread chipset. It supports two
physical layers: i2c and MEI. The MEI one depends on a patchset that's
been sent to Greg Kroah-Hartman for inclusion into the 3.9 kernel [1]. The
dependency is a KConfig one which means this code is not buildable as long
as the MEI API is not usptream."
"This 3rd NFC pull request for 3.9 contains a fix for the microread MEI
physical layer support, as the MEI bus API changed.
From the MEI code, we now pass the MEI id back to the driver probe routine,
and we also pass a name and a MEI id table through the mei_bus_driver
structure. A few renames as well like e.g. mei_bus_driver to mei_driver or
mei_bus_client to mei_device in order to be closer to the driver model
practices."
For the ath6kl bits, Kalle says:
"There's not anything special here, most of the patches are just code
cleanup. The only functional changes are using the beacon interval from user
space and fixing a crash which happens when inserting and removing the
module in a loop."
Also, I pulled the wireless tree in order to resolve some pending
merge issues. On top of that, there is a bunch of work on brcmfmac
that leads up to P2P support. Also, mwifiex, rtlwifi, and a variety
of other drivers see some basic cleanups and minor enhancements.
Please let me know if there are problems!

The reason is a problem with asynchronous vs. synchronous
commands, what happens here is the following:
* TE 0x2601 is removed, the TIME_EVENT_CMD for that is async
* a new TE (will be 0x2701) is created, the TIME_EVENT_CMD
for that is sync and also uses a notification wait for the
response (to avoid another race condition)
* the response for the TE 0x2601 removal comes from the
firmware, and is handled by the notification wait handler
that's really waiting for the second response, but can't
tell the difference, we therefore see the message
"TIME_EVENT_CMD response - UID = 0x2601" instead of
"TIME_EVENT_CMD response - UID = 0x2701".
Fix this issue by making the TE removal synchronous as well,
this means that we wait for the response to that command
first, before there's any chance of sending a new one.
Also, to detect such issues more easily in the future, add
a warning to the notification handler that detects them.

This series contains updates to e1000, e1000e, igb, igbvf and ixgbe.
The e1000, e1000e, igb and igbvf are single patch changes and the
remaining 11 patches are all against ixgbe.
The e1000 patch is a comment cleanup to align e1000 with the code
commenting style for /drivers/net. It also contains a few other white
space cleanups (i.e. fix lines over 80 char, remove unnecessary blank
lines and fix the use of tabs/spaces).
The e1000e patch from Koki (Fujitsu) adds a warning when link speed is
downgraded due to SmartSpeed.
The igb patch from Stefan (Red Hat) increases the timeout in the ethtool
offline self-test because some i350 adapters would sometimes fail the
self-test because link auto negotiation may take longer than the current
4 second timeout.
The igbvf patch from Alex is meant to address several race issues that
become possible because next_to_watch could possibly be set to a value
that shows that the descriptor is done when it is not. In order to correct
that we instead make next_to_watch a pointer that is set to NULL during
cleanup, and set to the eop_desc after the descriptor rings have been written.
The remaining patches for ixgbe are a mix of fixes and added support as well
as some cleanup. Most notably is the added support for displaying the
number of Tx/Rx channels via ethtool by Alex. Also Aurélien adds the
ability for reading data from SFP+ modules over i2c for diagnostic
monitoring.

Recent changes have made it so that MAX_SKB_FRAGS is now never less than 16.
As a result we were seeing issues on systems with 64K pages as it would
cause DESC_NEEDED to increase to 68, and we would need over 136 descriptors
free before clean_tx_irq would wake the queue.
This patch makes it so that DESC_NEEDED is always MAX_SKB_FRAGS + 4. This
should prevent any possible deadlocks on the systems with 64K pages as we will

Instead of adjusting the FCoE and Flow director limits based on the number
of CPUs we can define them much sooner. This allows the user to come
through later and adjust them once we have updated the code to support the
set_channels ethtool operation.
I am still allowing for FCoE and RSS queues to be separated if the number
queues is less than the number of CPUs. This essentially treats the two
groupings like they are two separate traffic classes.
In addition I am changing the initialization to use the MAX_TX/RX_QUEUES
defines instead of trying to compute the value as it will be possible in
upcoming patches for the user to request the maximum number of queues.
I have also updated things so that the upper limit on queues is exactly 63
instead of allowing it to go up to 64. The reason for this change is to
address the fact thqt the driver only supports up to 63 queue vectors since
the hardware supports 64 MSI-X vectors, but one must be reserved for "other"
causes.
