Add a basic driver for Micron SPI NANDs. Only one device is supported
right now, but the driver will be extended to support more devices

Function nand_ecc_choose_conf() will be help for all the cases, so
other helper functions can be made static.
nand_check_ecc_caps(): Invoke nand_ecc_choose_conf() with
both chip->ecc.size and chip->ecc.strength
value set.
nand_maximize_ecc(): Invoke nand_ecc_choose_conf() with
NAND_ECC_MAXIMIZE flag.
nand_match_ecc_req(): Invoke nand_ecc_choose_conf() with either
chip->ecc.size or chip->ecc.strength value
set and without NAND_ECC_MAXIMIZE flag.

Make separate function to perform raw read for one codeword and
call this function multiple times for each codeword in case of
raw page read. This separate function will help in subsequent
patches related with erased codeword bitflip detection.
It will decrease throughput for raw page read. Raw page read
is used for debug purpose so it won't affect normal flash
operations.

Currently there is no error checking for raw read. For raw
reads, there won’t be any ECC failure but the operational
failures are possible, so schedule the NAND_FLASH_STATUS read
after each codeword.

QCOM NAND controller layout protects available OOB data bytes with
ECC also so when ecc->write_oob() is being called then it
can't update just OOB bytes. Currently, it first reads the last
codeword which includes old OOB bytes. Then it updates the old OOB
bytes with new ones and then again writes the codeword back.
The reading codeword is unnecessary since user is responsible to
have these bytes cleared to 0xFF.
This patch removes the read part and updates the OOB bytes with
data area padded with OxFF.

read_page and read_oob both calls the read_page_ecc function.
The QCOM NAND controller protect the OOB available bytes with
ECC so read errors should be checked for read_oob also.
This patch moves the error checking code inside read_page_ecc
so caller does not have to check explicitly for read errors.

parse_read_errors can be called with only oob_buf in which case
data_buf will be NULL. If data_buf is NULL, then don’t
treat this page as completely erased in case of ECC uncorrectable
error for RS ECC. For BCH ECC, the controller itself tells
regarding erased page in status register.

Following is the flow in the HW if controller tries to read erased
page:
1. First ECC uncorrectable error will be generated from ECC engine
since ECC engine first calculates the ECC with all 0xff and match
the calculated ECC with ECC code in OOB (which is again all 0xff).
2. After getting ECC error, erased CW detection logic will be
applied which is different for BCH and RS ECC
a. For BCH, HW checks if all the bytes in page are 0xff and then
it updates the status in separate register
NAND_ERASED_CW_DETECT_STATUS.
b. For RS ECC, the HW reports the same error when reading an
erased CW, but it notifies that it is an erased CW by
placing special characters at certain offsets in the
buffer.
So the erased CW detect status should be checked only if ECC engine
generated the uncorrectable error.
Currently for all other operational errors also (like TIMEOUT, MPU
errors, etc.), the erased CW detect logic is being applied so fix this
and return EIO for other operational errors.

The BAM has 3 channels - tx, rx and command. command channel
is used for register read/writes, tx channel for data writes
and rx channel for data reads. Currently, the driver assumes the
transfer completion once it gets all the command descriptors
completed. Sometimes, there is race condition between data channel
(tx/rx) and command channel completion. In these cases,
the data present in buffer is not valid during small window
between command descriptor completion and data descriptor
completion.
This patch generates NAND transfer completion when both
(Data and Command) DMA channels have completed all its DMA
descriptors. It assigns completion callback in last
DMA descriptors of that channel and wait for completion.

Currently the driver uses the ECC strength specified in DT.
The QPIC/EBI2 NAND supports 4 or 8-bit ECC correction. The same
kind of board can have different NAND parts so use the ECC
strength from device parameters if it is not specified in DT.

QCOM NAND controller supports only one step size (512) so
nand-ecc-step-size DT property is redundant. This property

commit 2c8f8afa7f ("mtd: nand: add generic helpers to check,
match, maximize ECC settings") provides generic helpers which
drivers can use for setting up ECC parameters.
Since same board can have different ECC strength nand chips so
following is the logic for setting up ECC strength and ECC step
size, which can be used by most of the drivers.
1. If both ECC step size and ECC strength are already set
(usually by DT) then just check whether this setting
is supported by NAND controller.
2. If NAND_ECC_MAXIMIZE is set, then select maximum ECC strength
supported by NAND controller.
3. Otherwise, try to match the ECC step size and ECC strength closest
to the chip's requirement. If available OOB size can't fit the chip
requirement then select maximum ECC strength which can be fit with
available OOB size.
This patch introduces nand_ecc_choose_conf function which calls the
required helper functions for the above logic. The drivers can use
this single function instead of calling the 3 helper functions
individually.

At over 4000 #includes, <linux/platform_device.h> is the 9th most
#included header file in the Linux kernel. It does not need
<linux/mod_devicetable.h>, so drop that header and explicitly add
<linux/mod_devicetable.h> to source files that need it.

After this patch, there are 225 files that use <linux/mod_devicetable.h>,
for a reduction of around 3900 times that <linux/mod_devicetable.h>
does not have to be read & parsed.

Using "%4.4X" in the calculation of the buffer size is misleading, as
the format string literal has no relation to the actual size needed.
Hence this is fragile w.r.t. future modification.
As this is not a hot path, fix this by replacing the formatting in a
fixed buffer by kasprintf().

Sometimes when writing large size files to flash in direct/memory mapped
mode, it is seen that flash write enable command times out with error:
[ 503.146293] cadence-qspi 47040000.ospi: Flash command execution timed out.
This is because, we need to make sure previous direct write operation
is complete by polling for IDLE bit in CONFIG_REG before starting the
next operation.
Fix this by polling for IDLE bit after memory mapped write.

Add support for the NAND flash controller found on NVIDIA
Tegra 2 SoCs. This implementation does not make use of the
command queue feature. Regular operations using ->exec_op()
use PIO mode for data transfers. Raw, ECC and OOB read/writes
make use of the DMA mode for data transfer.

The datasheet of the H27UCG8T2BTR states that this chip has a page size
of "16,384 + 1,280(Spare) bytes". The description of the "4th Byte of
Device Identifier Description" indicates that bits 6, 3 and 2 are
encoding the "Redundant Area Size / 8KB", where 640 bytes is a value of
0x6 (110 in binary notation).
hynix_nand_extract_oobsize decodes an OOB size of 640 bytes for this
chip. Kernel boot log extract before this patch:

Even if we can't update ecc_stats.corrected with an accurate value we
should at least increase the number of bitflips so that MTD users can
know that there was some bitflips.
Just add chip->ecc.strength to mtd->ecc_stats.corrected which should
account for the worst case situation.

On a sama5d31 with a Full-HD dual LVDS panel (132MHz pixel clock) NAND
flash accesses have a tendency to cause display disturbances. Add a
module param to disable DMA from the NAND controller, since that fixes
the display problem for me.

Since commit 1bb8866677 ("mtd: nand: denali: handle timing parameters
by setup_data_interface()"), denali_dt.c gets the clock rate from the
clock driver. The driver expects the frequency of the bus interface
clock, whereas the clock driver of SOCFPGA provides the core clock.
Thus, the setup_data_interface() hook calculates timing parameters
based on a wrong frequency.
To make it work without relying on the clock driver, hard-code the clock
frequency, 200MHz. This is fine for existing DT of UniPhier, and also
fixes the issue of SOCFPGA because both platforms use 200 MHz for the
bus interface clock.

The "sector is in requested range" test used to determine whether
sectors should be re-locked or not is done on a variable that is reset
everytime we cross a chip boundary, which can lead to some blocks being
re-locked while the caller expect them to be unlocked.
Fix the check to make sure this cannot happen.

cfi_ppb_unlock() tries to relock all sectors that were locked before
unlocking the whole chip.
This locking used the chip start address + the FULL offset from the
first flash chip, thereby forming an illegal address. Fix that by using
the chip offset(adr).

Positive return value from read_oob() is making false BAD
blocks. For some of the NAND controllers, OOB bytes will be
protected with ECC and read_oob() will return number of bitflips.
If there is any bitflip in ECC protected OOB bytes for BAD block
status page, then that block is getting treated as BAD.

The v21 version of the NAND flash controller contains a Spare Area Size
Register (SPAS) at offset 0x10. Its setting defaults to the maximum
spare area size of 218 bytes. The size that is set in this register is
used by the controller when it calculates the ECC bytes internally in
hardware.
Usually, this register is updated from settings in the IIM fuses when
the system is booting from NAND flash. For other boot media, however,
the SPAS register remains at the default setting, which may not work for
the particular flash chip on the board. The same goes for flash chips
whose configuration cannot be set in the IIM fuses (e.g. chips with 2k
sector size and 128 bytes spare area size can't be configured in the IIM
fuses on imx25 systems).
Set the SPAS register explicitly during the preset operation. Derive the
register value from mtd->oobsize that was detected during probe by
decoding the flash chip's ID bytes.
While at it, rename the define for the spare area register's offset to
NFC_V21_RSLTSPARE_AREA. The register at offset 0x10 on v1 controllers is
different from the register on v21 controllers.

As the pxa architecture switched towards the dmaengine slave map, the
old compatibility mechanism to acquire the dma requestor line number and
priority are not needed anymore.
This patch simplifies the dma resource acquisition, using the more
generic function dma_request_slave_channel().

SPI_MEM_OP_DUMMY(0, x) means there's 0 dummy bytes to send, which is
similar to SPI_MEM_OP_NO_DUMMY except it's less clear. Use
SPI_MEM_OP_NO_DUMMY instead of SPI_MEM_OP_DUMMY(0, x) in
m25p80_write().
Also stop updating op.dummy.buswidth since this value is only
meaningful if you have dummy bytes.

Now we have the machinery to detect EBA mismatches on-the-fly
by comparing the in-memory volume ID and LEB number with the found
VID header.
This helps to detect malfunction of Fastmap.

Fastmap cannot track the LEB unmap operation, therefore it can
happen that after an interrupted erasure the mapping still looks
good from Fastmap's point of view, while reading from the PEB will
cause an ECC error and confuses the upper layer.
Instead of teaching users of UBI how to deal with that, we read back
the VID header and check for errors. If the PEB is empty or shows ECC
errors we fixup the mapping and schedule the PEB for erasure.

Ben Hutchings pointed out that 29b7a6fa1e ("ubi: fastmap: Don't flush
fastmap work on detach") does not really fix the problem, it just
reduces the risk to hit the race window where fastmap work races against
free()'ing ubi->volumes[].
The correct approach is making sure that no more fastmap work is in
progress before we free ubi data structures.
So we cancel fastmap work right after the ubi background thread is
stopped.
By setting ubi->thread_enabled to zero we make sure that no further work
tries to wake the thread.

But the chip ready is not enough to check the operation status.

For the word write functions it is retried for error.
But it is not implemented to retry for the erase functions.
To make sure for the erase functions change to retry as same.
This is needed to prevent the flash erase error caused only once.
It was caused by the error case of chip_good() in the do_erase_oneblock().
Also it was confirmed on the MACRONIX flash device MX29GL512FHT2I-11G.
But the error issue behavior is not able to reproduce at this moment.
The flash controller is parallel Flash interface integrated on BCM53003.

But it is not checked for the write buffer as only checked if ready.
To make sure for the write buffer change to check the value.
It is enough as this patch is only checking the last written word.

This allows using bcm47xxpart parser to find partitions on flash
described in DT using the "brcm,bcm947xx-cfe-partitions" compatible
property. It means this parser doesn't have to be explicitly selected by
a flash driver anymore. It can be used e.g. together with a generic
m25p80 / spi-nor if device is just properly described.

SPI mem drivers should use spi_mem_set_drvdata() not spi_set_drvdata()
to store their private data. Using spi_set_drvdata() will mess the
spi -> spi-mem link up and cause a kernel panic at shutdown or
device removal time.

Commit a53e35db70 ("reset: Ensure drivers are explicit when requesting
reset lines") started to transition the reset control request API calls
to explicitly state whether the driver needs exclusive or shared reset
control behavior. Convert all drivers requesting exclusive resets to the
explicit API call so the temporary transition helpers can be removed.
No functional changes.

The overall poll time here is INTEL_SPI_TIMEOUT * 1000 which is
5000 * 1000 - so 5seconds and it is coded as a tight loop here delay_us
to readl_poll_timeout() is set to 0. As this is never called in an atomic
context sleeping should be no issue and there is no reasons for the
tight-loop here.

The driver is not meant for normal users at all but instead such users
who really know what they are doing and are able to build their own
kernel to enable it. Mark both driver Kconfig entries as dangerous to
make sure the driver is not accidentally enabled without understanding
possible consequences in doing so.

On many older systems using SW sequencer the PREOP_OPTYPE register
contains two preopcodes as following:
PREOP_OPTYPE=0xf2785006
The last two bytes are the opcodes decoded to:
0x50 - Write enable for volatile status register
0x06 - Write enable
The former is used to modify volatile bits in the status register. For
non-volatile bits the latter is needed. Preopcodes are used in SW
sequencer to send one command "atomically" without anything else
interfering the transfer. The sequence that gets executed is:
- Send preopcode (write enable) from PREOP_OPTYPE register
- Send the actual SPI command
- Poll busy bit in the status register (0x05, RDSR)
Commit 8c473dd61b ("spi-nor: intel-spi: Don't assume OPMENU0/1 to be
programmed by BIOS") enabled atomic sequence handling but because both
preopcodes are programmed, the following happens:

val |= SSFSTS_CTL_SPOP;
Since on these systems preop >> 8 == 0x50 we end up picking volatile
write enable instead. Because of this the actual write command is pretty
much NOP unless there is a WREN latched in the chip already.
Furthermore we should not really just assume that WREN was issued in
previous call to intel_spi_write_reg() because that might not be the
case.
This updates driver to first check that the opcode is actually available
in PREOP_OPTYPE register and if not return error back to the spi-nor
core (if the controller is not locked we program it now). In addition we
save the opcode to ispi->atomic_preopcode field which is checked in next
call to intel_spi_sw_cycle() to actually enable atomic sequence using
the requested preopcode.

The ONFI spec clearly says that FAIL bit is only valid for PROGRAM,
ERASE and READ-with-on-die-ECC operations, and should be ignored
otherwise.
It seems that checking it after sending a SET_FEATURES is a bad idea
because a previous READ, PROGRAM or ERASE op may have failed, and
depending on the implementation, the FAIL bit is not cleared until a
new READ, PROGRAM or ERASE is started.
This leads to ->set_features() returning -EIO while it actually worked,
which can sometimes stop a batch of READ/PROGRAM ops.
Note that we only fix the ->exec_op() path here, because some drivers
are abusing the NAND_STATUS_FAIL flag in their ->waitfunc()
implementation to propagate other kind of errors, like
wait-ready-timeout or controller-related errors. Let's not try to fix
those drivers since they worked fine so far.

The code is doing monolithic reads for all chunks except the last one
which is wrong since a monolithic read will issue the
READ0+ADDRS+READ_START sequence. It not only takes longer because it
forces the NAND chip to reload the page content into its internal
cache, but by doing that we also reset the column pointer to 0, which
means we'll always read the first chunk instead of moving to the next
one.
Rework the code to do a monolithic read only for the first chunk,
then switch to naked reads for all intermediate chunks and finally
issue a last naked read for the last chunk.

When bcm47xxpart finds a TRX partition (container) it's supposed to jump
to the end of it and keep looking for more partitions. TRX and its
subpartitions are handled by a separate parser.
The problem with old code was relying on the length specified in a TRX
header. That isn't reliable as TRX is commonly modified to have checksum
cover only non-changing subpartitions. Otherwise modifying e.g. a rootfs
would result in CRC32 mismatch and bootloader refusing to boot a
firmware.
Fix it by trying better to figure out a real TRX size. We can securely
assume that TRX has to cover all subpartitions and the last one is at
least of a block size in size. Then compare it with a length field.
This makes code more optimal & reliable thanks to skipping data that
shouldn't be parsed.

The spi_mem_xxx() API has been introduced to replace the
spi_flash_read() one. Make use of it so we can get rid of
spi_flash_read().
Note that using spi_mem_xx() also simplifies the code because this API
takes care of using the regular spi_sync() interface when the optimized
->mem_ops interface is not implemented by the controller.

This commit slightly simplifies the code. Every parse_mtd_partitions()
caller (out of two existing ones) had to add partitions & cleanup parser
on its own. This moves that responsibility into the function.
That change also allows dropping struct mtd_partitions argument.
There is one minor behavior change caused by this cleanup. If
parse_mtd_partitions() fails to add partitions (add_mtd_partitions()
return an error) then mtd_device_parse_register() will still try to
add (register) fallback partitions. It's a real corner case affecting
one of uncommon error paths and shouldn't cause any harm.

One layout supported by the Marvell NAND controller supports NAND pages
of 2048 bytes, all handled in one single chunk when using BCH with a
strength of 4-bit per 512 bytes. In this case, instead of the generic
XTYPE_WRITE_DISPATCH/XTYPE_LAST_NAKED_RW couple, the controller expects
to receive XTYPE_MONOLITHIC_RW.

The GPMI nand driver puts dma_ops_type in its private data struct. Based
on the ops type the DMA callback handler unmaps previously mapped
buffers. Instead of unmapping the buffers in the DMA callback handler,
do this in the caller directly which waits for the DMA transfer to
finish. This makes the whole dma_ops_type mechanism unnecessary.

As part of the work of migrating all the drivers to nand_scan(), and
because nand_scan() does not provide a way to pass an ID table, rename
the function nand_scan_with_ids() and add a third parameter to give a
flash ID table (like what was done with nand_scan_ident()).
Create a nand_scan() helper that is just a wrapper of
nand_scan_with_ids(), passing NULL as the ID table. This way a
controller drivers can continue using nand_scan() transparently.

An error after nand_scan_tail() should trigger a nand_cleanup().
The helper mtd_device_parse_register() returns an error code that should
be checked and nand_cleanup() called accordingly.
However, in this driver, fsl_ifc_chip_remove() which is called upon
error already triggers a nand_release() which is wrong, because a
nand_release() should be triggered only if an mtd_register() succeeded.
Move the nand_release() call out of the fsl_ifc_chip_remove() and put it
back in the *_remove() hook.

doc_probe() is never called in atomic context.
doc_probe() is only called by init_nanddoc(), which is only set as
a parameter of module_init().
This function is not called in atomic context.
Despite never getting called from atomic context, doc_probe()
calls mdelay() to busily wait.
This is not necessary and can be replaced with usleep_range() to
avoid busy waiting.
This is found by a static analysis tool named DCNS written by myself.
And I also manually check it.

None of the existing platforms connect the R/B pin to a GPIO (they all
use one of the dedicated R/B pin).
Anyway, if we ever get short of native R/B pins, it's probably better
to fallback to STATUS reg polling than trying to poll a GPIO.

NAND itself is an asynchronous interface, it does not have any
clock input. DaVinci NAND driver acquires clock for AEMIF
(asynchronous external memory interface) which is an on-chip
IP to which NAND is connected.
The same clock is also enabled in AEMIF driver (either present
drivers/memory or from machine code for some older platforms).
AEMIF timing must be initialized before NAND can be accessed.
This ensures that AEMIF clock is enabled too.
Remove the superfluous clock acquisition and enable in DaVinci
NAND driver.
Tested on K2L, K2HK, K2E, DA850 EVM, DA850 LCDK in device-tree
boot and DM644x EVM in legacy boot.

The block responsible of parsing the DT for the number of chip-select
lines uses an 'if/else if/else if' block. The content of the second and
third 'else if' conditions are:
1/ the actual condition to enter the sub-block and
2/ the operation to do in this sub-block.

In case of failure, the sub-block is entered and an error raised.
Otherwise, in case of success, the code would continue erroneously in
the next 'else if' statement because it did not failed (and did not
enter the first 'else if' sub-block).
The first 'else if' refers to legacy bindings while the second 'else if'
refers to new bindings. The second 'else if', which is entered
erroneously, checks for the 'reg' property, which, for old bindings,
does not mean anything because it would not be the number of CS
available, but the regular register map of almost any DT node. This
being said, the content of the 'reg' property being the register map
offset and length, it has '2' values, so the number of CS in this
situation is assumed to be '2'.
When running nand_scan_ident() with 2 CS, the core will check for an
array of chips. It will first issue a RESET and then a READ_ID. Of
course this will trigger two timeouts because there is no chip in front
of the second CS:

Indeed, this is harmless and the core will then assume there is only one
valid CS.
Fix the logic in the whole block by entering each sub-block just on the
'is legacy' condition, doing the action inside the sub-block. This way,
when the action succeeds, the whole block is left.
Furthermore, for both the old bindings and the new bindings the same
logic was applied to retrieve the number of CS lines:
using of_get_property() to get a size in bytes, converted in the actual
number of lines by dividing it per sizeof(u32) (4 bytes).
This is fine for the 'reg' property which is a list of the CS IDs but
not for the 'num-cs' property which is directly the value of the number
of CS.
Anyway, no existing DT uses another value than 'num-cs = <1>' and no
other value has ever been supported by the old driver (pxa3xx_nand.c).
Remove this condition and apply a number of 1 CS anyway, as already
described in the bindings.
Finally, the 'reg' property of a 'nand' node (with the new bindings)
gives the IDs of each CS line in use. marvell_nand.c driver first look
at the number of CS lines that are present in this property.
Better use of_property_count_elems_of_size() than dividing by 4 the size
of the number of bytes returned by of_get_property().

The reed solomon library is moving the on stack decoder buffers into the rs
control structure. That would break the DoC driver because multiple
instances share the same control structure and can operate in parallel. At
least in theory....
Instantiate a rs control instance per DoC device to avoid that. The per
instance buffer is fine as the operation on a single DoC instance is
serialized by the MTD/NAND core.

The decoder library uses variable length arrays on stack. To get rid of
them it would be simple to allocate fixed length arrays on stack, but those
might become rather large. The other solution is to allocate the buffers in
the rs control structure, but this cannot be done as long as the structure
can be shared by several users. Sharing is desired because the RS polynom
tables are large and initialization is time consuming.
To solve this split the codec information out of the control structure and
have a pointer to a shared codec in it. Instantiate the control structure
for each user, create a new codec if no shareable is avaiable yet. Adjust
all affected usage sites to the new scheme.
This allows to add per instance decoder buffers to the control structure
later on.

The current Cadence QSPI driver caused a kernel panic when loading
a Root Filesystem from QSPI. The problem was caused by reading more
bytes than needed because the QSPI operated on 4 bytes at a time.

Notice above how only 1 byte needed to be read but by reading 4 bytes
into the end of a mapped page, an unrecoverable page fault occurred.
This patch uses a temporary buffer to hold the 4 bytes read and then
copies only the bytes required into the buffer. A min() function is
used to limit the length to prevent buffer overflows.
Request testing of this patch on other platforms. This was tested
on the Intel Arria10 SoCFPGA DevKit.

Since msleep is based on jiffies, this 3 ms sleep becomes actually 20 ms.
Worst of all, since this sleep is used in a loop when writing, a single page
write (256 to 1024 bytes) causes 17 ms extra time.
When writing large files (for example u-boot is usually 512 KB) this delay
adds up to minutes.

Commit e7bfb3fdbd ("mtd: Stop updating erase_info->state and calling
mtd_erase_callback()") removed the einfo->state field and the
MTD_ERASE_XXX macros. At the same time, the generic NAND layer was added
and made sure to update the erase info state.
It did not result in a build failure after merging the nand/for-4.17
branch in mtd/next because the generic NAND layer is not selected yet.
Let's fix that before a config option starts selecting MTD_NAND_CORE.

Remove dependencies on HAS_DMA where a Kconfig symbol depends on another
symbol that implies HAS_DMA, and, optionally, on "|| COMPILE_TEST".
In most cases this other symbol is an architecture or platform specific
symbol, or PCI.
Generic symbols and drivers without platform dependencies keep their
dependencies on HAS_DMA, to prevent compiling subsystems or drivers that
cannot work anyway.
This simplifies the dependencies, and allows to improve compile-testing.

Winbond spi-nor flash 32MB and larger have an 'Extended Address
Register' as one option for addressing beyond 16MB (Macronix
has the same concept, Spansion has EXTADD bits in the Bank Address
Register).
According to section
8.2.7 Write Extended Address Register (C5h)
of the Winbond W25Q256FV data sheet (256M-BIT SPI flash)
The Extended Address Register is only effective when the device is
in the 3-Byte Address Mode. When the device operates in the 4-Byte
Address Mode (ADS=1), any command with address input of A31-A24
will replace the Extended Address Register values. It is
recommended to check and update the Extended Address Register if
necessary when the device is switched from 4-Byte to 3-Byte Address
Mode.
So the documentation suggests clearing the EAR after switching to
3-byte mode. Experimentation shows that the EAR is *always* one after
the switch to 3-byte mode, so clearing the EAR is mandatory at
shutdown for a subsequent 3-byte-addressed reboot to work.
Note that some SOCs (e.g. MT7621) do not assert a reset line at normal
reboot, so we cannot rely on hardware reset. The MT7621 does assert a
reset line at watchdog-reset.

Using generic names such as get_if_type() is frowned
upon: it suggests a core function (which is not),
and then it makes code navigation harder.
Given drivers are often used as starting point
to write other drivers, generic names tend to spread
like the flu. Cure the problem.

Add support to use DMA over memory mapped reads in direct mode. This
helps in reducing CPU usage from ~100% to ~10% when reading data from
flash. For non-DMA'able/vmalloc'd buffers, driver just falls back to CPU
based memcpy.

This release brings up a new platform based on the old ARM9 core: the
Nuvoton NPCM is used as a baseboard management controller, competing
with the better known ASpeed AST2xx series.
Another important change is the addition of ARMv7-A based chips
in mach-stm32. The older parts in this platform are ARMv7-M based
microcontrollers, now they are expanding to general-purpose workloads.
The other changes are the usual defconfig updates to enable additional
drivers, lesser bugfixes. The largest updates as often are the ongoing
OMAP cleanups, but we also have a number of changes for the older
PXA and davinci platforms this time.
For the Renesas shmobile/r-car platform, some new infrastructure
is needed to make the watchdog work correctly.
Supporting Multiprocessing on Allwinner A80 required a significant
amount of new code, but is not doing anything unexpected.

While UBI and UBIFS seem to work at first sight with MLC NAND, you will
most likely lose all your data upon a power-cut or due to read/write
disturb.
In order to protect users from bad surprises, refuse to attach to MLC
NAND.

When opening a device with write access, ubiblock_open returns an error
code. Currently, this error code is -EPERM, but this is not the right
value.
The open function for other block devices returns -EROFS when opening
read-only devices with FMODE_WRITE set. When used with dm-verity, the
veritysetup userspace tool is expecting EROFS, and refuses to use the
ubiblock device.
Use -EROFS for ubiblock as well. As a result, veritysetup accepts the
ubiblock device as valid.

Currently on a imx6sx-sdb board, which has two SPI NOR chips connected
to QSPI2 the following output from /proc/mtd is seen:

Attempts to partition them on the kernel command line result in both
chips with identical (and identically named) partitions, which is
an inconvenient behavior.
Assign a different mtd->name for each mtd device to avoid this problem.
After this change the output from /proc/mtd becomes:

In order to keep mtdparts compatibility keep the mtd->name

It turns out that the loop where we read manufacturer
jedec_read_mfd() can under some circumstances get a

get_sectorsize() was not using the appropriate macro to extract the

This mode is not used by any existing setup and should not be used

On Armada 7K/8K we need to explicitly enable the register clock. This
clock is optional because not all the SoCs using this IP need it but at
least for Armada 7K/8K it is actually mandatory.
The binding documentation is updated accordingly.

It is not necessary for all device's maps to be CFI_HOST_ENDIAN.
Maps device can be Big endian or little endian.
Currently it is being taken care using CONFIG_MTD_CFI_LE_BYTE_SWAP or
CONFIG_MTD_CFI_BE_BYTE_SWAP i.e. compile time.
Now update struct map_info's swap field based on device characteristics
defined in device tree.

This allows using this parser with any flash driver that takes care of
setting of_node (using mtd_set_of_node helper) correctly. Up to now
support for "fixed-partitions" DT compatibility string was working only
with flash drivers that were specifying "ofpart" (manually or by letting
mtd use the default set of parsers).
This matches existing bindings documentation.

Type "ofpart" means that OF should be used to get partitioning info and
this driver supports "fixed-partitions" binding only. Renaming it should
lead to less confusion especially when parsers for new compatibility
strings start to appear.

In order to properly support compatibility strings as described in the
bindings/mtd/partition.txt "ofpart" type should be treated as an
indication for looking into OF. MTD should check "compatible" property
and search for a matching parser rather than blindly trying the one
supporting "fixed-partitions".
It also means that existing "fixed-partitions" parser should get renamed
to use a more meaningful name.
This commit achievies that aim by introducing a new mtd_part_of_parse().
It works by looking for a matching parser for every string in the
"compatibility" property (starting with the most specific one).
Please note that driver-specified parsers still take a precedence. It's
assumed that driver providing a parser type has a good reason for that
(e.g. having platform data with device-specific info). Also doing
otherwise could break existing setups. The same applies to using default
parsers (including "cmdlinepart") as some overwrite DT data with cmdline
argument.
Partition parsers can now provide an of_match_table to enable
flash<-->parser matching via device tree as documented in the
mtd/partition.txt.
This support is currently limited to built-in parsers as it uses
request_module() and friends. This should be sufficient for most cases
though as compiling parsers as modules isn't a common choice.

Due to missing information in Hardware manual, current
implementation doesn't read ECCSTAT0 and ECCSTAT1 registers
for IFC 2.0.
Add support to read ECCSTAT0 and ECCSTAT1 registers during
ecccheck for IFC 2.0.

Number of ECC status registers i.e. (ECCSTATx) has been increased in IFC
version 2.0.0 due to increase in SRAM size. This is causing eccstat
array to over flow.
So, replace eccstat array with u32 variable to make it fail-safe and
independent of number of ECC status registers or SRAM size.

As per the IFC hardware manual, Most significant 2 bytes in
nand_fsr register are the outcome of NAND READ STATUS command.
So status value need to be shifted and aligned as per the nand
framework requirement.

When there is only a single erase block, the cross erase test

MTD users are no longer checking erase_info->state to determine if the
erase operation failed or succeeded. Moreover, mtd_erase_callback() is
now a NOP.
We can safely get rid of all mtd_erase_callback() calls and all
erase_info->state assignments. While at it, get rid of the
erase_info->state field, all MTD_ERASE_XXX definitions and the
mtd_erase_callback() function.

GPMI driver timings derivation looks very empirical and does not use
the known timings that the core wants to use with the NAND chip, by
using local defined constants that have no special meaning from the
outside world.
Simplify the way all of this is computed and use the NAND core's SDR
timings.
Integrity of the reads/writes has been checked with nandbiterrs, speed
improvements with flash_speed on a Freescale i.MX6 DualLite/Solo SABRE
Automotive Board. Measures are below, variations of less than 150kiB/s
between tests are common and then not significant. Speeds using mode 5
are the same, while speeds using mode 0 are quite improved (+40/50%
from non-optimal computation).

Until now the GPMI driver had its own timings logic while the core
already handles that and request the NAND controller drivers to support
the ->setup_data_interface() hook. Implement that hook by reusing the
already existing function. No real glue is necessary between core timing
delays and GPMI registers because the driver already translates the
ONFI timing modes into register values.
Make use of the core's tREA, tRLOH and tRHOH values that allow computing
more precise timings for mode [0-3] and get significantly better values
(+20% with an i.MX6 Sabre Auto board). Otherwise use the existing logic.

read from the parameter page after the detection.
Now that there is a small nand_parameters structure that hold all needed
ONFI parameters, remove the ONFI page from the nand_chip structure by
just allocating it during the identification phase and removing it right
after.

The MX30LF2G18AC chip declares in its parameter page supporting
SET/GET_FEATURES but when it comes to timings, experience shows that it
is not the case.
Unflag this feature for this particular chip in the nand_parameters
structure to avoid unnecessary errors and downturns.

If SET/GET_FEATURES is available (from the parameter page), use a
bitmap to declare what feature is actually supported.
Initialize the bitmap in the core to support timing changes (only
feature used by the core), also add support for Micron specific features
used in Micron initialization code (in the init routine).

ONFI-related parameters that will be used outside from the
identification function are stored in a separate onfi_parameters
structure embedded in nand_parameters, this small structure that
already hold generic parameters.
For now, the onfi_parameters structure is allocated statically. However,
after some deep rework in the NAND framework, it will be possible to do
dynamic allocations from the NAND identification phase, and this
strcuture will then be dynamically allocated when needed.

After a nand_reset_data_interface(), both the NAND chip and the NAND
controller use timing mode 0. The previously defined data interface for
this chip has been saved and is supposed to be restored after that.
However, if the saved data interface also refers to timing mode 0, there
is no need to re-apply them again.
Also, as nand_setup_data_interface() uses ->set/get_features(), it could
lead to issues when doing the reset at probe time as the parameter page
is not available yet to know if these functions are supported or not.
