a relic of old times when nfpcore was a library module. All

We want to be able to create a special vNIC for control messages.
This vNIC should be created before any netdev is registered to allow
nfp_app logic to exchange messages with the FW app before any netdev
is visible to user space. Unfortunately we can't enable IRQs until
we know how many vNICs we will need to spawn.
Divide the function which spawns netdevs for vNICs into three parts:
- vNIC/memory allocation;
- IRQ allocation;
- netdev init and register.
This will help us insert the initialization of the control channel
after IRQ allocation but before netdev init and register.

nfp_cpp_{read,write}() helpers perform device memory mapping (setting
the PCIe -> NOC translation BARs) and accessing it. They, however,
currently implicitly expect that the length of entire operation will
fit in one BAR translation window. There is a number of 16MB windows
available, and we don't really need to access such large areas today.
If the user, however, manages to trick the driver into making a big
mapping (e.g. by providing a huge fake FW file), the driver will
print a warning saying "No suitable BAR found for request" and a
stack trace - which most users find concerning.
To be future-proof and not scare users with warnings, make the
nfp_cpp_{read,write}() helpers do accesses chunk by chunk if the area
size is large. Set the notion of "large" to 2MB, which is the size
of the smallest BAR window.

Since XDP TX ring holds "spare" RX buffers anyway, we don't have to
rush the completion. We can wait until ring fills up completely
before trying to reclaim buffers. If RX poll has ended an no
buffer has been queued for XDP TX we have no guarantee we will see
another interrupt, so run the reclaim there as well, to make sure
TX statistics won't become stale.
This should help us reclaim more buffers per single queue controller
register read.
Note that the XDP completion is very trivial, it only adds up
the sizes of transmitted frames for statistics so the latency
spike should be acceptable. In case user sets the ring sizes
to something crazy, limit the completion to 2k entries.
The check if the ring is empty at the beginning of xdp_complete()

For legacy reasons NFP FW may be compiled to DMA packets to a constant
offset into the buffer and use the space before it for metadata. This
ensures that packets data always start at a certain offset regardless of
the amount of preceding metadata.
If rx offset is set to 0 there may still be up to 64 bytes of metadata
but metadata will start at the beginning of the buffer, instead of:
data_start_offset = rx_offset - meta_len
Even though we make the buffers larger to accommodate up to 64 bytes of
metadata, if there is only N bytes of metadata, we will end up with
N bytes of headroom and 64 - N bytes of tailroom. Therefore we can't
rely on that space for XDP headroom. Make sure we always allocate
full 256 bytes. This, unfortunately, means we can't fit the headroom

two TX rings to check there. If the software indexes indicate that
the TX queue is completely empty, however, we don't need to look at

Make callers of nfp_net_ring_reconfig() pass newly allocated data
path structure. We will gradually make use of that structure
instead of passing parameters around to all the allocation functions.
This commit adds allocation and propagation of new data path struct,
no parameters are converted, yet.

NSP reports to us port labels. First id is the id of the physical
port, the other one tells us which logical interface is it within a
split port. Instead of printing them as string keep them in integer
format. Compute which interfaces are part of port split.
On netdev side use port labels and split information to provide a
.ndo_get_phys_port_name() implementation. We follow the name format
of mlxsw which is also suggested in "Port Netdev Naming" section
of Documentation/networking/switchdev.txt.

Since commit c0f031bc88 ("nfp_net: use alloc_frag() and build_skb()")
we are allocating buffers which have to hold both the data and skb to
be created in place by build_skb().
FW should only be told about the buffer space it can DMA to, that
is without the build_skb() headroom and tailroom. Note: firmware
applications should validate the buffers against both MTU and
free list buffer size so oversized packets would not pass through
the NIC anyway.

Some application firmware projects may choose to limit the number
of VFs available below what is specified in PCI capability to be
able to reuse the PCIe interface resources. There may also be
projects which use cases don't require SR-IOV support at all and
therefore don't want to spend time implementing/testing it.

firmware is reporting how many VFs it supports. This mechanism
is an opt-in, if symbol is not present we will only look at the

This work adds a number of tracepoints to paths that are either
considered slow-path or exception-like states, where monitoring or
inspecting them would be desirable.
For bpf(2) syscall, tracepoints have been placed for main commands
when they succeed. In XDP case, tracepoint is for exceptions, that
is, f.e. on abnormal BPF program exit such as unknown or XDP_ABORTED
return code, or when error occurs during XDP_TX action and the packet
could not be forwarded.
Both have been split into separate event headers, and can be further
extended. Worst case, if they unexpectedly should get into our way in
future, they can also removed [1]. Of course, these tracepoints (like
any other) can be analyzed by eBPF itself, etc. Example output:
# ./perf record -a -e bpf:* sleep 10
# ./perf script

This patch allows XDP prog to extend/remove the packet
data at the head (like adding or removing header). It is
done by adding a new XDP helper bpf_xdp_adjust_head().
It also renames bpf_helper_changes_skb_data() to
bpf_helper_changes_pkt_data() to better reflect
that XDP prog does not work on skb.
This patch adds one "xdp_adjust_head" bit to bpf_prog for the
XDP-capable driver to check if the XDP prog requires
bpf_xdp_adjust_head() support. The driver can then decide
to error out during XDP_SETUP_PROG.

After 326fe02d1e ("net/mlx4_en: protect ring->xdp_prog with rcu_read_lock"),
the rcu_read_lock() in bpf_prog_run_xdp() is superfluous, since callers
need to hold rcu_read_lock() already to make sure BPF program doesn't
get released in the background.
Thus, drop it from bpf_prog_run_xdp(), as it can otherwise be misleading.
Still keeping the bpf_prog_run_xdp() is useful as it allows for grepping
in XDP supported drivers and to keep the typecheck on the context intact.
For mlx4, this means we don't have a double rcu_read_lock() anymore. nfp can
just make use of bpf_prog_run_xdp(), too. For qede, just move rcu_read_lock()
out of the helper. When the driver gets atomic replace support, this will
move to call-sites eventually.
mlx5 needs actual fixing as it has the same issue as described already in
326fe02d1e ("net/mlx4_en: protect ring->xdp_prog with rcu_read_lock"),
that is, we're under RCU bh at this time, BPF programs are released via
call_rcu(), and call_rcu() != call_rcu_bh(), so we need to properly mark
read side as programs can get xchg()'ed in mlx5e_xdp_set() without queue
reset.
