In current implementation, unflatten_dt_node() is called recursively
to unflatten device nodes in FDT blob. It's stress to limited stack
capacity, especially to adopt the function to unflatten device sub-tree
that possibly has multiple root nodes. In that case, we runs out of
stack and the system can't boot up successfully.
In order to reuse the function to unflatten device sub-tree, this avoids
calling the function recursively, meaning the device nodes are unflattened
in one call on unflatten_dt_node(): two arrays are introduced to track the
parent path size and the device node of current level of depth, which will
be used by the device node on next level of depth to be unflattened. All
device nodes in more than 64 level of depth are dropped and hopefully,
the system can boot up successfully with the partial device-tree.
Also, the parameter "poffset" and "fpsize" are unused and dropped and the
parameter "dryrun" is figured out from "mem == NULL". Besides, the return
value of the function is changed to indicate the size of memory consumed by
the unflatten device tree or error code.

The function unflatten_dt_node() is called recursively to unflatten
device nodes and properties in the FDT blob. It looks complicated
and hard to be understood.
This splits the function into 3 functions: populate_properties(),
populate_node() and unflatten_dt_node(). populate_properties(),
which is called by populate_node(), creates properties for the
indicated device node. The later one creates the device nodes
from FDT blob. populate_node() gets the offset in FDT blob for
next device nodes and then calls populate_node(). No logical
changes introduced.

The validity of the property input argument to of_remove_property() is
never checked within the function and thus it is possible to pass a null
value. It happens that this will be picked up in __of_remove_property()
as no matching property of the device node will be found and thus an
error will be returned, however once again there is no explicit check
for a null value. By the time this is detected 2 locks have already been
acquired which is completely unnecessary if the property to remove is
null.
Add an explicit check in the function of_remove_property() for a null
property value and return -ENODEV in this case, this is consistent with
what the previous return value would have been when the null value was
not detected and passed to __of_remove_property().
By moving an explicit check for the property paramenter into the
of_remove_property() function, this will remove the need to perform this
check in calling code before invocation of the of_remove_property()
function.

Add a check whether the 'struct device_node' pointer passed to
of_mdiobus_register() is an available (aka enabled) node in the Device
Tree.
Rationale for doing this are cases where an Ethernet MAC provides a MDIO
bus controller and node, and an additional Ethernet MAC might be
connecting its PHY/switches to that first MDIO bus controller, while
still embedding one internally which is therefore marked as "disabled".
Instead of sprinkling checks like these in callers of
of_mdiobus_register(), do this in a central location.

With this macro any user can easily iterate over a list of
phandles. The patch also converts __of_parse_phandle_with_args()
to make use of the macro.
The of_count_phandle_with_args() function is not converted,
because the macro hides the return value of of_phandle_iterator_init(),
which is needed in there.

The index = -1 case in __of_parse_phandle_with_args() is
used to just return the number of phandles. That special
case needs extra handling, so move it to the place where it
is needed: of_count_phandle_with_args().
This allows to further simplify __of_parse_phandle_with_args()

NAND subsystem is being slightly reworked to store ECC details in
separated fields. In future we'll want to add support for more DT
properties as specifying every possible setup with a single
"nand-ecc-mode" is a pretty bad idea.
To allow this let's add a helper that will support something like
"nand-ecc-algo" in future. Right now we use it for keeping backward
compatibility.

We currently try to match of_dev_auxdata based on compatible,
IO address, and device name. But in some cases we have multiple
instances of drivers that can use the same auxdata.
Let's add an additional secondary lookup for generic compatible
match for auxdata if no device specific match is found. This does
not change the existing matching, and still allows adding device
specific auxdata.
This simplifies things as specifying the IO address and device
name is prone errors as it requires maintaining an in kernel
database for each SoC.
To specify a generic match, all that is needed is to add a
OF_DEV_AUXDATA entry with no device instance specified:

As the auxdata is already initialized only for the booted SoC,
there's not much of a chance of getting things wrong.
Let's also fix two checkpatch warnings while at it to add a

of_overlay_destroy() can return `-ENODEV' error code once it
failed to find the requested overlay in `ov_idr'. However,
of_unittest_destroy_tracked_overlays() does not handle this
error code correctly and continues to call of_overlay_destroy()
on the 'missing' overlay over and over again. This results in

and reported by Ying Huang.
This patch does not address the root cause of missing overlay in

early_init_dt_alloc_reserved_memory_arch passes end as 0 to
__memblock_alloc_base, when limits are not specified. But
__memblock_alloc_base takes end value of 0 as MEMBLOCK_ALLOC_ACCESSIBLE
and limits the end to memblock.current_limit. This results in regions
never being placed in HIGHMEM area, for e.g. CMA.
Let __memblock_alloc_base allocate from anywhere in memory if limits are
not specified.

of_mdiobus_register() declares the 'paddr' variable to hold the result of
the of_get_property() but only uses it once after that while the function
can be called directly from the *if* statement. Remove that variable and
switch to calling of_find_property() instead since we don't care about
the "reg" property's value anyway...

Since architectures may not yet have their linear mapping up and running
when the initrd address is discovered from the DT, factor out the
assignment of initrd_start and initrd_end, so that an architecture can
override it and use the translation it needs.

By default, early_init_dt_add_memory_arch() ignores memory below
the base of the kernel image since it won't be addressable via the
linear mapping. However, this is not appropriate anymore once we
decouple the kernel text mapping from the linear mapping, so archs
may want to drop the low limit entirely. So allow the minimum to be
overridden by setting MIN_MEMBLOCK_ADDR.

In __of_find_node_by_full_name, add an of_node_get when detecting the
desired element, to ensure that it ends up with a reference count that is
one greater than on entering the function.
Also in __of_find_node_by_full_name, add an of_node_put on breaking
out of the for_each_child_of_node loop, to ensure that the reference
count of the returned value is not double incremented. This change
was made using Coccinelle.
The semantic patch used for this is as follows:

The existing msi-map code is fine for shifting the entire RID space
upwards, but attempting finer-grained remapping reveals a bug. It turns
out that we are mistakenly treating the msi-base part as an offset, not
as a new base to remap onto, so things get squiffy when rid-base is
nonzero. Fix this, and at the same time add a sanity check against
having msi-map-mask clash with a nonzero rid-base, as that's another
thing one can easily get wrong.

Commit ae46113196 ("of: of_mdio: Add a whitelist of PHY
compatibilities.") missed one compatible string used in in-tree DTBs:
in OCTEON, for selected boards, the kernel DTB pruning code will overwrite
the DTB compatible string with "marvell,88e1145", which is missing
from the whitelist. Add it.
The patch fixes broken networking on EdgeRouter Lite.

Read the optional "reg-offset", "reg-shift", "reg-io-width" and endianness
properties and initialize the respective struct uart_port field if found.
NB: These bindings are common to several drivers and the values merely
indicate the default value; the registering earlycon setup() method can
simply override the values if required.

Use a single common table of struct earlycon_id for both command line
and devicetree. Re-define OF_EARLYCON_DECLARE() macro to instance a
unique earlycon declaration (the declaration is only guaranteed to be
unique within a compilation unit; separate compilation units must still
use unique earlycon names).
The semantics of OF_EARLYCON_DECLARE() is different; it declares an
earlycon which can matched either on the command line or by devicetree.
EARLYCON_DECLARE() is semantically unchanged; it declares an earlycon
which is matched by command line only. Remove redundant instances of
EARLYCON_DECLARE().
This enables all earlycons to properly initialize struct console
with the appropriate name and index, which improves diagnostics and
enables direct earlycon-to-console handoff.

Some phy nodes list a compatible value indicating the PHY make/model.
This is never used to match the device to the driver. However it does
confuse the code to separate a PHY from a generic MDIO device like a
switch. Generic MDIO devices must have a compatible value, PHYs can
list clause 22 or 45, but nothing else.
Issue a warning if we find a compatible value known on the whitelist,
and say it is a PHY.

of_phy_find_device() is used to find the phy device associated with a
device node. It is expected the node is for a PHY device, but in fact
it could of been probed as a generic MDIO device. Ensure the device is
a PHY before returning it.

So far, when trying to associate a device with its MSI domain,
we first lookup the domain using a MSI token, and if this
doesn't return anything useful, we pick up any domain matching
the same node.
This logic is broken for two reasons:
1) Only the generic MSI code (PCI or platform) sets this token
to PCI/MSI or platform MSI. So we're guaranteed that if there
is something to be found, we will find it with the first call.
2) If we have a convoluted situation where:
- a single node implements both wired and MSI interrupts
- MSI support for that HW hasn't been compiled in
we'll end up using the wired domain for MSIs anyway, and things
break badly.
So let's just remove __of_get_msi_domain, and replace it by a direct
call to irq_find_matching_host, because that's what we really want.

Add a single resource to the test bus device to exercise the platform
bus code a little more. This isn't strictly a devicetree test, but it is
a corner case that the devicetree runs into. Until we've got platform
device unittests, it can live here. It doesn't need to be an explicit
text because the kernel will oops when it is wrong.

Currently, of_irq_init() iterates over interrupt controller nodes
with for_each_matching_node(), and then gets each init function with
of_match_node() later.
This routine can be optimized with for_each_matching_node_and_match().
It allows to get the interrupt controller node and its init function
at the same time, saving __of_match_node() callings.

__unflatten_device_tree() calls unflatten_dt_node(), which declares
a static variable. It is therefore not reentrant.
One of the callers of __unflatten_device_tree(), unflatten_device_tree(),
is only called once during early initialization and does not need to be
protected. The other caller, of_fdt_unflatten_tree(), can be called at
any time, possibly multiple times in parallel. This can happen, for
example, if multiple devicetree overlays have to be loaded and installed.
Without this protection, errors such as the following may be seen.

In order to check for overlapping reserved memory regions, we first need
to sort the array of memory regions. This is implemented using sort(),
and a custom comparison function __rmem_cmp().
Unfortunatley __rmem_cmp() doesn't work in all cases. Because the two
base values are phys_addr_t, they may be u64 on some platforms, in which
case subtracting one from the other and then (implicitly) casting to int
does not give us the -ve/0/+ve value we need.
This leads to incorrect reports about overlaps, eg:
ibm,slw-image@1ffe600000 (0x0000001ffe600000--0x0000001ffe700000) overlaps with
ibm,firmware-allocs-memory@1000000000 (0x0000001000000000--0x0000001000dc0200)
Fix it by just doing the standard double if and return 0 logic.

There is an alignment mismatch issue between the of_reserved_mem and
the CMA setup requirement. The of_reserved_mem will try to get the
alignment value from the DTS and pass it to __memblock_alloc_base to
do the memory block base allocation, but the alignment value specified
in the DTS may not satisfy the CAM setup requirement since CMA setup
required the alignment as the following in the code:
align = PAGE_SIZE << max(MAX_ORDER - 1, pageblock_order);
The sanity check in the function of rmem_cma_setup will fail if the
alignment does not setup correctly and thus CMA will fail to setup.
This patch is to fixup the alignment to meet the CMA setup required.

__rmem_check_for_overlap() is called very early in boot, and on some
powerpc systems it's not safe to call WARN that early in boot.
If the overlap check fails the system will oops instead of printing a
warning. Furthermore because it's so early in boot the console is not up
and the user doesn't see the oops, they just get a dead system.
Fix it by printing an error instead of calling WARN.

Enable building all dtb files when CONFIG_OF_ALL_DTBS is enabled. The dtbs
are not really dependent on a platform being enabled or any other kernel
config, so for testing coverage it is convenient to build all of the dtbs.
In order to only build dtbs, this option can be used by creating an
allno.config file containing:
CONFIG_COMPILE_TEST=y
CONFIG_OF=y
CONFIG_OF_ALL_DTBS=y
And then running:
make KCONFIG_ALLCONFIG=1 allnoconfig
make dtbs
While building the dtbs themselves don't need a cross compiler, the
scripts dependency does need one. This can be hacked around by
commenting out "subdir-y += mod" in scripts/Makefile.

for_each_child_of_node performs an of_node_get on each iteration, so
a break out of the loop requires an of_node_put.
A simplified version of the semantic patch that fixes this problem is as

For now, in function device_add, the new device will be forced to
inherit the numa node of its parent. But this will override the device's
numa node which configured in devicetree.

While msi-parent is used to point to the MSI controller that
works for all the devices behind a root complex, it doesn't
allow configurations where each individual device can be routed
to a separate MSI controller.
The msi-map property provides this flexibility (and much more),
so let's add a utility function that parses it, and return the
corresponding MSI domain.

The msi-map property is also used to identify the MSI controller
as a form of grown-up msi-parent property.
Looking it up is complicated enough, and since of_msi_map_rid
already implements this, let's turn it into an internal utility
function. We'll put that to good use later on.

Since 126b16e2ad ("Docs: dt: add generic MSI bindings"),
the definition of "msi-parent" has evolved, while maintaining
some degree of compatibility. It can now express multiple MSI
controllers as parents, as well as some sideband data being
communicated to the controller.
This patch adds the parsing of the property, iterating over
the multiple parents until a suitable irqdomain is found.
It can also fallback to the original parsing if the old
binding is detected.
This support code gets used in the subsequent patches.

The device tree property "msi-map" specifies how to create the PCI
requester id used in some MSI controllers. Add a new function
of_msi_map_rid() that finds the msi-map property and applies its
translation to a given requester id.

of_irq_find_parent has no users outside of of_irq.c, so it does not make
sense to expose it in of_irq.h. Therefore remove the prototype and dummy
implmeentation and make the function static instead.

Many boards use an alias in the stdout-path specification along
with console options after a colon (e.g. serial0:115200n8). When
using earlycon, this specification currently does not work. While
fdt_path_offset supports alias resolution, it does not remove the
console options by itself. Use the fdt_path_offset_namelen variant
and provide the length of the alias to enable aliases with console
options in the stdout-path.

This patch allows PCI host controller to function even if part of resources
is unusable for some reason. An example is non-LPAE kernel on a machine
which has some 64-bit resources. Unusable resources will be just skipped
instead of a complete failure.

If non-LPAE kernel is booted up on a machine with 64-bit PCI resources,
PCI controller probe fails with:

This happens because res->start assignment in of_pci_range_to_resource()
truncates the upper part of the address, because res->start is of
phys_addr_t type, which is 32-bit on non-LPAE kernels.
This patch adds explicit recognition of 64-bit resources, preventing from
potential problems when e. g. 0x8000001234 would be converted to
0x00001234.
