b7ca692896 CIFS: Protect i_nlink from being negative
that can cause warning messages. Pavel had initially
suggested a smaller patch around drop_nlink, after
a similar problem was discovered NFS. Protecting
additional places where nlink is touched was
suggested by Jeff Layton and is included in this.

764a1b1ace cifs: ensure that we always do cifsFileInfo_get under the spinlock
The readpages bug is a regression that was introduced in 6993f74a5.
This also fixes a couple of similar bugs in the uncached read and write
codepaths.

Also, prevent this sort of thing in the future by having cifsFileInfo_get
take the spinlock itself, and adding a _locked variant for use in places
that are already holding the lock. The _put code has always done that
so this makes for a less confusing interface.

c5fd363d77 cifs: move file_lock off stack in cifs_push_posix_locks
struct file_lock is pretty large, so we really don't want that on the
stack in a potentially long call chain. Reorganize the arguments to
CIFSSMBPosixLock to eliminate the need for that.

Eliminate the get_flag and simply use a non-NULL pLockInfo to indicate
that this is a "get" operation. In order to do that, need to add a new
loff_t argument for the start_offset.

Linus Torvalds
a66d2c8f7e Merge branch 'for-linus-2' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/viro/vfs
Pull the big VFS changes from Al Viro:
"This one is *big* and changes quite a few things around VFS. What's in there:

   - the first of two really major architecture changes - death to open
     intents.

The former is finally there; it was very long in making, but with
Miklos getting through really hard and messy final push in
fs/namei.c, we finally have it. Unlike his variant, this one
doesn't introduce struct opendata; what we have instead is
->atomic_open() taking preallocated struct file * and passing
     everything via its fields.

Instead of returning struct file *, it returns -E... on error, 0
on success and 1 in "deal with it yourself" case (e.g. symlink
     found on server, etc.).

See comments before fs/namei.c:atomic_open(). That made a lot of
goodies finally possible and quite a few are in that pile:
->lookup(), ->d_revalidate() and ->create() do not get struct
nameidata * anymore; ->lookup() and ->d_revalidate() get lookup
flags instead, ->create() gets "do we want it exclusive" flag.

With the introduction of new helper (kern_path_locked()) we are rid
of all struct nameidata instances outside of fs/namei.c; it's still
visible in namei.h, but not for long. Come the next cycle,
declaration will move either to fs/internal.h or to fs/namei.c
     itself. [me, miklos, hch]

   - The second major change: behaviour of final fput(). Now we have
__fput() done without any locks held by caller *and* not from deep
     in call stack.

That obviously lifts a lot of constraints on the locking in there.
Moreover, it's legal now to call fput() from atomic contexts (which
has immediately simplified life for aio.c). We also don't need
     anti-recursion logics in __scm_destroy() anymore.

There is a price, though - the damn thing has become partially
asynchronous. For fput() from normal process we are guaranteed
that pending __fput() will be done before the caller returns to
userland, exits or gets stopped for ptrace.

For kernel threads and atomic contexts it's done via
schedule_work(), so theoretically we might need a way to make sure
it's finished; so far only one such place had been found, but there
     might be more.

There's flush_delayed_fput() (do all pending __fput()) and there's
__fput_sync() (fput() analog doing __fput() immediately). I hope
we won't need them often; see warnings in fs/file_table.c for
details. [me, based on task_work series from Oleg merged last
     cycle]

   - sync series from Jan

   - large part of "death to sync_supers()" work from Artem; the only
bits missing here are exofs and ext4 ones. As far as I understand,
those are going via the exofs and ext4 trees resp.; once they are
in, we can put ->write_super() to the rest, along with the thread
     calling it.

   - preparatory bits from unionmount series (from dhowells).

   - assorted cleanups and fixes all over the place, as usual.

This is not the last pile for this cycle; there's at least jlayton's
ESTALE work and fsfreeze series (the latter - in dire need of fixes,
so I'm not sure it'll make the cut this cycle). I'll probably throw
symlink/hardlink restrictions stuff from Kees into the next pile, too.
Plus there's a lot of misc patches I hadn't thrown into that one -
it's large enough as it is..."

cd60042cc1 cifs: always update the inode cache with the results from a FIND_*
When we get back a FIND_FIRST/NEXT result, we have some info about the
dentry that we use to instantiate a new inode. We were ignoring and
discarding that info when we had an existing dentry in the cache.

Fix this by updating the inode in place when we find an existing dentry
and the uniqueid is the same.

async reads and writes. The idea here is to ensure that cifs
aggressively tries to populate a request before attempting to fulfill
another one. As soon as all of the pages are kmapped for a request, then
we can unlock and allow another one to proceed.

There's no need to do this serialization on non-CONFIG_HIGHMEM arches
however, so optimize all of this out when CONFIG_HIGHMEM isn't set.

3ae629d98b cifs: on CONFIG_HIGHMEM machines, limit the rsize/wsize to the kmap space
We currently rely on being able to kmap all of the pages in an async
read or write request. If you're on a machine that has CONFIG_HIGHMEM
set then that kmap space is limited, sometimes to as low as 512 slots.

With 512 slots, we can only support up to a 2M r/wsize, and that's
assuming that we can get our greedy little hands on all of them. There
are other users however, so it's possible we'll end up stuck with a
size that large.

Since we can't handle a rsize or wsize larger than that currently, cap
those options at the number of kmap slots we have. We could consider
capping it even lower, but we currently default to a max of 1M. Might as
well allow those luddites on 32 bit arches enough rope to hang
themselves.

A more robust fix would be to teach the send and receive routines how
to contend with an array of pages so we don't need to marshal up a kvec
array at all. That's a fairly significant overhaul though, so we'll need
this limit in place until that's ready.

A user reported a crash in cifs_demultiplex_thread() caused by an

ec01d738a1 cifs: when server doesn't set CAP_LARGE_READ_X, cap default rsize at MaxBufferSize
When the server doesn't advertise CAP_LARGE_READ_X, then MS-CIFS states
that you must cap the size of the read at the client's MaxBufferSize.
Unfortunately, testing with many older servers shows that they often
can't service a read larger than their own MaxBufferSize.

Since we can't assume what the server will do in this situation, we must
be conservative here for the default. When the server can't do large
reads, then assume that it can't satisfy any read larger than its
MaxBufferSize either.

Luckily almost all modern servers can do large reads, so this won't
affect them. This is really just for older win9x and OS/2 era servers.
Also, note that this patch just governs the default rsize. The admin can
always override this if he so chooses.

e73f843a32 cifs: fix parsing of password mount option
The double delimiter check that allows a comma in the password parsing code is
unconditional. We set "tmp_end" to the end of the string and we continue to
check for double delimiter. In the case where the password doesn't contain a
comma we end up setting tmp_end to NULL and eventually setting "options" to
"end". This results in the premature termination of the options string and hence
the values of UNCip and UNC are being set to NULL. This results in mount failure
with "Connecting to DFS root not implemented yet" error.

This error is usually not noticable as we have password as the last option in
the superblock mountdata. But when we call expand_dfs_referral() from
cifs_mount() and try to compose mount options for the submount, the resulting
mountdata will be of the form

   ",ver=1,user=foo,pass=bar,ip=x.x.x.x,unc=\\server\share"

and hence results in the above error. This bug has been seen with older NAS
servers running Samba 3.0.24.

Fix this by moving the double delimiter check inside the conditional loop.

Changes since -v1

   - removed the wrong strlen() micro optimization.

1080ef758f CIFS: Introduce SMB2 mounts as vers=2.1
As with Linux nfs client, which uses "nfsvers=" or "vers=" to
indicate which protocol to use for mount, specifying

"vers=2.1"

will force an SMB2 mount. When vers is not specified CIFS is used

"vers=1"

We can eventually autonegotiate down from SMB2 to CIFS
when SMB2 is stable enough to make it the default, but this
is for the future. At that time we could also implement a
"maxprotocol" mount option as smbclient and Samba have today,
but that would be premature until SMB2 is stable.

Intially the SMB2 Kconfig option will depend on "BROKEN"
until the merge is complete, and then be "EXPERIMENTAL"
When it is no longer experimental we can consider changing
the default protocol to attempt first.

675f36fb1d CIFS: Introduce SMB2 Kconfig option
SMB2 is the followon to the CIFS (and SMB) protocols
and the default for Windows since Windows Vista, and also
now implemented by various non-Windows servers. SMB2
is more secure, has various performance advantages, including
larger i/o sizes, flow control, better caching model and more.
SMB2 also resolves some scalability limits in the CIFS
protocol and adds many new features while being much
simpler (only a few dozen commands instead of hundreds)
and since the protocol is clearer it is also more consistently
implemented across servers and thus easier to optimize.

After much discussion with Jeff Layton, Jeremy Allison
and others at Connectathon, we decided to move the SMB2
code from a distinct .ko and fstype into distinct
C files that optionally build in cifs.ko. As a result
the Kconfig gets simpler.

To avoid destabilizing CIFS, the SMB2 code is going
to be moved into its own experimental CONFIG_CIFS_SMB2 ifdef
as it is merged and rereviewed. The changes to stable
CIFS (builds with the SMB2 ifdef off) are expected to be
fairly small.

Fix this by adding a new cache= mount option that will supercede
"strictcache", and "forcedirectio". That will help make it clear that
these options are mutually exclusive. Also, change the legacy options to
be mutually exclusive too, to ensure that users don't get surprises.

1c89254926 cifs: convert cifs_iovec_read to use async reads
Convert cifs_iovec_read to use async I/O. This also raises the limit on
the rsize for uncached reads. We first allocate a set of pages to hold
the replies, then issue the reads in parallel and then collect the
replies and copy the results into the iovec.

A possible future optimization would be to kmap and inline the iovec
buffers and read the data directly from the socket into that. That would
require some rather complex conversion of the iovec into a kvec however.

936ad90944 cifs - check S_AUTOMOUNT in revalidate
When revalidating a dentry, if the inode wasn't known to be a dfs
entry when the dentry was instantiated, such as when created via
->readdir(), the DCACHE_NEED_AUTOMOUNT flag needs to be set on the
dentry in ->d_revalidate().

The false return from cifs_d_revalidate(), due to the inode now
being marked with the S_AUTOMOUNT flag, might not invalidate the
dentry if there is a concurrent unlazy path walk. This is because
the dentry reference count will be at least 2 in this case causing
d_invalidate() to return EBUSY. So the asumption that the dentry
will be discarded then correctly instantiated via ->lookup() might
not hold.

8f71465c19 cifs: don't cap ra_pages at the same level as default_backing_dev_info
While testing, I've found that even when we are able to negotiate a

Lifting this restriction gave almost a twofold increase in sequential
read performance on my craptactular KVM test rig with a 1M rsize.

I think this is safe since the actual ra_pages that the VM requests
is run through max_sane_readahead() prior to submitting the I/O. Under
memory pressure we should end up with large readahead requests being
suppressed anyway.

d81625587f cifs: handle "sloppy" option appropriately
cifs.ko has historically been tolerant of options that it does not
recognize. This is not normal behavior for a filesystem however.
Usually, it should only do this if you mount with '-s', and autofs
generally passes -s to the mount command to allow this behavior.

This patch makes cifs handle the option "sloppy" appropriately. If it's
present in the options string, then the client will tolerate options
that it doesn't recognize. If it's not present then the client will
error out in the presence of options that it does not recognize and
throw an error message explaining why.

There is also a companion patch being proposed for mount.cifs to make it
append "sloppy" to the mount options when passed the '-s' flag. This also
should (obviously) be applied on top of Sachin's conversion to the
standard option parser.

8830d7e07a cifs: use standard token parser for mount options

cifs mount options.

This was first proposed by Scott Lovenberg
http://lists.samba.org/archive/linux-cifs-client/2010-May/006079.html

Mount options have been grouped together in terms of their input types.
Aliases for username, password, domain and credentials have been added.
The password parser has been modified to make it easier to read.

Since the patch was first proposed, the following bugs have been fixed
1) Allow blank 'pass' option to be passed by the cifs mount helper when
using sec=none.
2) Do not explicitly set vol->nullauth to 0. This causes a problem

Pull security subsystem updates for 3.4 from James Morris:
"The main addition here is the new Yama security module from Kees Cook,
which was discussed at the Linux Security Summit last year. Its
purpose is to collect miscellaneous DAC security enhancements in one

1daaae8fa4 cifs: fix issue mounting of DFS ROOT when redirecting from one domain controller to the next
This patch fixes an issue when cifs_mount receives a
STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME error during cifs_get_tcon but is able to
continue after an DFS ROOT referral. In this case, the return code
variable is not reset prior to trying to mount from the system referred
to. Thus, is_path_accessible is not executed and the final DFS referral
is not performed causing a mount error.

Use case: In DNS, example.com resolves to the secondary AD server
ad2.example.com Our primary domain controller is ad1.example.com and has
a DFS redirection set up from \\ad1\share\Users to \\files\share\Users.
Mounting \\example.com\share\Users fails.

Regression introduced by commit 724d9f1.

6de2ce4231 CIFS: Fix mkdir/rmdir bug for the non-POSIX case
Currently we do inc/drop_nlink for a parent directory for every
mkdir/rmdir calls. That's wrong when Unix extensions are disabled
because in this case a server doesn't follow the same semantic and

we update our value with the server one and then decrement it on
every rmdir call - go to negative nlink values.

Fix this by removing inc/drop_nlink for the parent directory from
mkdir/rmdir, setting it for a revalidation and ignoring NumberOfLinks

ff4fa4a25a cifs: don't return error from standard_receive3 after marking response malformed
standard_receive3 will check the validity of the response from the
server (via checkSMB). It'll pass the result of that check to handle_mid
which will dequeue it and mark it with a status of
MID_RESPONSE_MALFORMED if checkSMB returned an error. At that point,
standard_receive3 will also return an error, which will make the
demultiplex thread skip doing the callback for the mid.

This is wrong -- if we were able to identify the request and the
response is marked malformed, then we want the demultiplex thread to do
the callback. Fix this by making standard_receive3 return 0 in this
situation.

to NULL. Since eaf35b1, the code will now oops in this situation.

Fix this by having the callers check for a NULL last entry pointer
before calling cifs_save_resume_key. No change is needed for the
call site in cifs_readdir as it's not reachable with a NULL
current_entry pointer.

This should fix:

9ef5992e44 cifs: Assume passwords are encoded according to iocharset (try #2)
Re-posting a patch originally posted by Oskar Liljeblad after
rebasing on 3.2.

Modify cifs to assume that the supplied password is encoded according
to iocharset. Before this patch passwords would be treated as
raw 8-bit data, which made authentication with Unicode passwords impossible
(at least passwords with characters > 0xFF).

The previous code would as a side effect accept passwords encoded with
ISO 8859-1, since Unicode < 0x100 basically is ISO 8859-1. Software which
relies on that will no longer support password chars > 0x7F unless it also
uses iocharset=iso8859-1. (mount.cifs does not care about the encoding so
it will work as expected.)

ef3d0fd27e vfs: do (nearly) lockless generic_file_llseek
The i_mutex lock use of generic _file_llseek hurts. Independent processes
accessing the same file synchronize over a single lock, even though
they have no need for synchronization at all.

Under high utilization this can cause llseek to scale very poorly on larger
systems.

This patch does some rethinking of the llseek locking model:

First the 64bit f_pos is not necessarily atomic without locks
on 32bit systems. This can already cause races with read() today.
This was discussed on linux-kernel in the past and deemed acceptable.
The patch does not change that.

Let's look at the different seek variants:

SEEK_SET: Doesn't really need any locking.
If there's a race one writer wins, the other loses.

For 32bit the non atomic update races against read()
stay the same. Without a lock they can also happen
against write() now. The read() race was deemed
acceptable in past discussions, and I think if it's
ok for read it's ok for write too.

=> Don't need a lock.

SEEK_END: This behaves like SEEK_SET plus it reads
the maximum size too. Reading the maximum size would have the
32bit atomic problem. But luckily we already have a way to read
the maximum size without locking (i_size_read), so we
can just use that instead.

Without i_mutex there is no synchronization with write() anymore,
however since the write() update is atomic on 64bit it just behaves
like another racy SEEK_SET. On non atomic 32bit it's the same
as SEEK_SET.

=> Don't need a lock, but need to use i_size_read()

SEEK_CUR: This has a read-modify-write race window
on the same file. One could argue that any application
doing unsynchronized seeks on the same file is already broken.
But for the sake of not adding a regression here I'm
using the file->f_lock to synchronize this. Using this
lock is much better than the inode mutex because it doesn't
synchronize between processes.

=> So still need a lock, but can use a f_lock.

This patch implements this new scheme in generic_file_llseek.
I dropped generic_file_llseek_unlocked and changed all callers.

f06ac72e92 cifs, freezer: add wait_event_freezekillable and have cifs use it
CIFS currently uses wait_event_killable to put tasks to sleep while
they await replies from the server. That function though does not
allow the freezer to run. In many cases, the network interface may
be going down anyway, in which case the reply will never come. The
client then ends up blocking the computer from suspending.

Fix this by adding a new wait_event_freezable variant --
wait_event_freezekillable. The idea is to combine the behavior of
wait_event_killable and wait_event_freezable -- put the task to
sleep and only allow it to be awoken by fatal signals, but also
allow the freezer to do its job.

5eba8ab360 cifs: allow for larger rsize= options and change defaults
Currently we cap the rsize at a value that fits in CIFSMaxBufSize. That's
not needed any longer for readpages. Allow the use of larger values for
readpages. cifs_iovec_read and cifs_read however are still limited to the
CIFSMaxBufSize. Make sure they don't exceed that.

The patch also changes the rsize defaults. The default when unix
extensions are enabled is set to 1M for parity with the wsize, and there
is a hard cap of ~16M.

When unix extensions are not enabled, the default is set to 60k. According
to MS-CIFS, Windows servers can only send a max of 60k at a time, so
this is more efficient than requesting a larger size. If the user wishes
however, the max can be extended up to 128k - the length of the READ_RSP
header.

Really old servers however require a special hack to ensure that we don't
request too large a read.

The caller will allocate and set up cifs_readdata for each READ_AND_X

to the pagecache, but not placed on the LRU list yet (as we need the
page->lru to keep the pages on the list in the readdata).

When cifsd identifies the mid, it will see that there is a special
receive handler for the call, and use that to receive the rest of the
frame. cifs_readv_receive will then marshal up a kvec array with
kmapped pages from the pagecache, which eliminates one copy of the
data. Once the data is received, the pages are added to the LRU list,
set uptodate, and unlocked.

44d22d846f cifs: add a callback function to receive the rest of the frame
In order to handle larger SMBs for readpages and other calls, we want
to be able to read into a preallocated set of buffers. Rather than
changing all of the existing code to preallocate buffers however, we
instead add a receive callback function to the MID.

cifsd will call this function once the mid_q_entry has been identified
in order to receive the rest of the SMB. If the mid can't be identified
or the receive pointer is unset, then the standard 3rd phase receive
function will be called.

ffc00e27aa cifs: eliminate is_multi_rsp parm to find_cifs_mid
Change find_cifs_mid to only return NULL if a mid could not be found.
If we got part of a multi-part T2 response, then coalesce it and still
return the mid. The caller can determine the T2 receive status from
the flags in the mid.

With this change, there is no need to pass a pointer to "length" as
well so just pass by value. If a mid is found, then we can just mark
it as malformed. If one isn't found, then the value of "length" won't
change anyway.

42c4dfc213 cifs: turn read_from_socket into a wrapper around a vectorized version
Eventually we'll want to allow cifsd to read data directly into the
pagecache. In order to do that we'll need a routine that can take a
kvec array and pass that directly to kernel_recvmsg.

Unfortunately though, the kernel's recvmsg routines modify the kvec
array that gets passed in, so we need to use a copy of the kvec array
and refresh that copy on each pass through the loop.

a5ff376966 cifs: Call id to SID mapping functions to change owner/group (try #4 repost)
Now build security descriptor to change either owner or group at the

(D)ACL, that functionality has been extended.

When either an Owner or a Group of a file object at the server is changed,
rest of security descriptor remains same (DACL etc.).

To set security descriptor, it is necessary to open that file
with permission bits of either WRITE_DAC if DACL is being modified or
WRITE_OWNER (Take Ownership) if Owner or Group is being changed.

It is the server that decides whether a set security descriptor with
either owner or group change succeeds or not.

21fed0d5b7 cifs: Add data structures and functions for uid/gid to SID mapping (try #4)
Add data structures and functions necessary to map a uid and gid to SID.
These functions are very similar to the ones used to map a SID to uid and gid.
This time, instead of storing sid to id mapping sorted on a sid value,
id to sid is stored, sorted on an id.
A cifs upcall sends an id (uid or gid) and expects a SID structure
in return, if mapping was done successfully.

A failed id to sid mapping to EINVAL.

This patchset aims to enable chown and chgrp commands when
cifsacl mount option is specified, especially to Windows SMB servers.
Currently we can't do that. So now along with chmod command,
chown and chgrp work.

Winbind is used to map id to a SID. chown and chgrp use an upcall
to provide an id to winbind and upcall returns with corrosponding
SID if any exists. That SID is used to build security descriptor.
The DACL part of a security descriptor is not changed by either
chown or chgrp functionality.

cifs client maintains a separate caches for uid to SID and
gid to SID mapping. This is similar to the one used earlier
to map SID to id (as part of ID mapping code).

I tested it by mounting shares from a Windows (2003) server by
authenticating as two users, one at a time, as Administrator and
as a ordinary user.
And then attempting to change owner of a file on the share.

Depending on the permissions/privileges at the server for that file,
chown request fails to either open a file (to change the ownership)
or to set security descriptor.
So it all depends on privileges on the file at the server and what
user you are authenticated as at the server, cifs client is just a
conduit.

I compared the security descriptor during chown command to that
what smbcacls sends when it is used with -M OWNNER: option
and they are similar.

e75047344e add new module parameter 'enable_oplocks'
Thus spake Jeff Layton:

"Making that a module parm would allow you to set that parameter at boot
time without needing to add special startup scripts. IMO, all of the
procfile "switches" under /proc/fs/cifs should be module parms
instead."

This patch doesn't alter the default behavior (Oplocks are enabled by
default).

To disable oplocks when loading the module, use

   modprobe cifs enable_oplocks=0

(any of '0' or 'n' or 'N' conventions can be used).

To disable oplocks at runtime using the new interface, use

   echo 0 > /sys/module/cifs/parameters/enable_oplocks

The older /proc/fs/cifs/OplockEnabled interface will be deprecated
after two releases. A subsequent patch will add an warning message
about this deprecation.

Changes since v2:
   - make enable_oplocks a 'bool'

Changes since v1:
   - eliminate the use of extra variable by renaming the old one to
enable_oplocks and make it an 'int' type.
