15b9ca1641 drm: Config orientation property if panel provides it
Panel orientation property should be set before drm_dev_register().
Some drm driver calls drm_dev_register() in .bind(). However, most
panels sets orientation property relatively late, mostly in .get_modes()
callback, since this is when they are able to get the connector and
binds the orientation property to it, though the value should be known
when the panel is probed.

In drm_bridge_connector_init(), if a bridge is a panel bridge, use it to
set the connector's panel orientation property.

50e156bd8a drm/bridge: Add devm_drm_bridge_add()
This adds a devm managed version of drm_bridge_add(). Like other
"devm" function listed in drm_bridge.h, this function takes an
explicit "dev" to use for the lifetime management. A few notes:
* In general we have a "struct device" for bridges that makes a good
candidate for where the lifetime matches exactly what we want.
* The "bridge->dev->dev" device appears to be the encoder
device. That's not the right device to use for lifetime management.

2509969a98 drm: Plumb debugfs_init through to panels
We'd like panels to be able to add things to debugfs underneath the
connector's directory. Let's plumb it through. A panel will be able to
put things in a "panel" directory under the connector's
directory. Note that debugfs is not ABI and so it's always possible
that the location that the panel gets for its debugfs could change in
the future.

NOTE: this currently only works if you're using a modern
architecture. Specifically the plumbing relies on _both_
drm_bridge_connector and drm_panel_bridge. If you're not using one or
both of these things then things won't be plumbed through.

As a side effect of this change, drm_bridges can also get callbacks to
put stuff underneath the connector's debugfs directory. At the moment
all bridges in the chain have their debugfs_init() called with the
connector's root directory.

drm/bridge: Add a function to abstract away panels
Display drivers so far need to have a lot of boilerplate to first
retrieve either the panel or bridge that they are connected to using
drm_of_find_panel_or_bridge(), and then either deal with each with ad-hoc
functions or create a drm panel bridge through drm_panel_bridge_add.

In order to reduce the boilerplate and hopefully create a path of least
resistance towards using the DRM panel bridge layer, let's create the
function devm_drm_of_get_bridge() to reduce that boilerplate.

12c683e12c drm: bridge: Pass drm_display_info to drm_bridge_funcs .mode_valid()
When validating a mode, bridges may need to do so in the context of a
display, as specified by drm_display_info. An example is the meson
dw-hdmi bridge that needs to consider the YUV 4:2:0 output format to

Bridges that need the display info currently retrieve it from the
drm_connector created by the bridge. This gets in the way of moving
connector creation out of bridge drivers. To make this possible, pass
the drm_display_info to drm_bridge_funcs .mode_valid().

a25b988ff8 drm/bridge: Extend bridge API to disable connector creation
Most bridge drivers create a DRM connector to model the connector at the
output of the bridge. This model is historical and has worked pretty
well so far, but causes several issues:

- It prevents supporting more complex display pipelines where DRM
connector operations are split over multiple components. For instance a
pipeline with a bridge connected to the DDC signals to read EDID data,
and another one connected to the HPD signal to detect connection and
disconnection, will not be possible to support through this model.

- It requires every bridge driver to implement similar connector
handling code, resulting in code duplication.

- It assumes that a bridge will either be wired to a connector or to
another bridge, but doesn't support bridges that can be used in both
positions very well (although there is some ad-hoc support for this in
the analogix_dp bridge driver).

In order to solve these issues, ownership of the connector should be
moved to the display controller driver (where it can be implemented
using helpers provided by the core).

Extend the bridge API to allow disabling connector creation in bridge
drivers as a first step towards the new model. The new flags argument to
the bridge .attach() operation allows instructing the bridge driver to
skip creating a connector. Unconditionally set the new flags argument to
0 for now to keep the existing behaviour, and modify all existing bridge
drivers to return an error when connector creation is not requested as
they don't support this feature yet.

The change is based on the following semantic patch, with manual review
and edits.

f32df58acc drm/bridge: Add the necessary bits to support bus format negotiation
drm_bridge_state is extended to describe the input and output bus
configurations. These bus configurations are exposed through the
drm_bus_cfg struct which encodes the configuration of a physical
bus between two components in an output pipeline, usually between
two bridges, an encoder and a bridge, or a bridge and a connector.

The bus configuration is stored in drm_bridge_state separately for
the input and output buses, as seen from the point of view of each
bridge. The bus configuration of a bridge output is usually identical
to the configuration of the next bridge's input, but may differ if
the signals are modified between the two bridges, for instance by an
inverter on the board. The input and output configurations of a
bridge may differ if the bridge modifies the signals internally,
for instance by performing format conversion, or*modifying signals
polarities.

Bus format negotiation is automated by the core, drivers just have
to implement the ->atomic_get_{output,input}_bus_fmts() hooks if they
want to take part to this negotiation. Negotiation happens in reverse
order, starting from the last element of the chain (the one directly
connected to the display) up to the first element of the chain (the one
connected to the encoder).
During this negotiation all supported formats are tested until we find
one that works, meaning that the formats array should be in decreasing
preference order (assuming the driver has a preference order).

Note that the bus format negotiation works even if some elements in the
chain don't implement the ->atomic_get_{output,input}_bus_fmts() hooks.
In that case, the core advertises only MEDIA_BUS_FMT_FIXED and lets
the previous bridge element decide what to do (most of the time, bridge
drivers will pick a default bus format or extract this piece of
information from somewhere else, like a FW property).

e351e4d5ea drm/bridge: Add the necessary bits to support bus format negotiation
drm_bridge_state is extended to describe the input and output bus
configurations.

In that case, the core advertises only MEDIA_BUS_FMT_FIXED and lets
the previous bridge element decide what to do (most of the time, bridge
drivers will pick a default bus format or extract this piece of
information from somewhere else, like a FW property).

b86d895524 drm/bridge: Add an ->atomic_check() hook
So that bridge drivers have a way to check/reject an atomic operation.
The drm_atomic_bridge_chain_check() (which is just a wrapper around
the ->atomic_check() hook) is called in place of
drm_bridge_chain_mode_fixup() (when ->atomic_check() is not implemented,
the core falls back on ->mode_fixup(), so the behavior should stay
the same for existing bridge drivers).

One of the last remaining objects to not have its atomic state.

This is being motivated by our attempt to support runtime bus-format

re-use some of the existing state initialization/tracking logic.

35a61fe921 drm: Stop accessing encoder->bridge directly
We are about to replace the single-linked bridge list by a double-linked
one based on list.h, leading to the suppression of the encoder->bridge
field. But before we can do that we must provide a
drm_bridge_chain_get_first_bridge() bridge helper and patch all drivers
and core helpers to use it instead of directly accessing encoder->bridge.

Note that we still have 2 drivers (VC4 and Exynos) manipulating the
encoder->bridge field directly because they need to cut the bridge chain
in order to control the enable/disable sequence. This is definitely
not something we want to encourage, so let's keep those 2 oddities
around until we find a better solution.

89958b7cd9 drm/bridge: panel: Infer connector type from panel by default
The drm panel bridge creates a connector using a connector type
explicitly passed by the display controller or bridge driver that
instantiates the panel bridge. Now that drm_panel reports its connector
type, we can use it to avoid passing an explicit (and often incorrect)
connector type to drm_panel_bridge_add() and
devm_drm_panel_bridge_add().

Several drivers report incorrect or unknown connector types to
userspace. Reporting a different type may result in a breakage. For that
reason, rename (devm_)drm_panel_bridge_add() to
(devm_)drm_panel_bridge_add_typed(), and add new
(devm_)drm_panel_bridge_add() functions that use the panel connector
type. Update all callers of (devm_)drm_panel_bridge_add() to the _typed
function, they will be converted one by one after testing.

The DRM bus flags convey additional information on pixel data on
the bus. All current available bus flags might be of interest for
a bridge. Remove the sampling_edge field and use bus_flags.

In the case at hand a dumb VGA bridge needs a specific data enable
polarity (DRM_BUS_FLAG_DE_LOW).

88bc417856 drm: Use new DRM_BUS_FLAG_*_(DRIVE|SAMPLE)_(POS|NEG)EDGE flags
The DRM_BUS_FLAG_PIXDATA_(POS|NEG)EDGE and
DRM_BUS_FLAG_SYNC_(POS|NEG)EDGE flags are deprecated in favour of the
new DRM_BUS_FLAG_PIXDATA_(DRIVE|SAMPLE)_(POS|NEG)EDGE and
new DRM_BUS_FLAG_SYNC_(DRIVE|SAMPLE)_(POS|NEG)EDGE flags. Replace them
through the code.

This effectively changes the value of the .sampling_edge bridge timings
field in the dumb-vga-dac driver. This is safe to do as no driver
consumes these values yet.

36a776df6e drm/bridge: Provide a way to embed timing info in bridges
After some discussion and failed patch sets trying to convey
the right timing information between the display engine and

timing information container in the bridge itself, so that
display engines can retrieve it from any bridge and use it to
determine how to drive outputs.
