There are no remaining callers of set_fs(), so CONFIG_SET_FS can be removed globally, along with the thread_info field and any references to it. This turns access_ok() into a cheaper check against TASK_SIZE_MAX. As CONFIG_SET_FS is now gone, drop all remaining references to set_fs()/get_fs(), mm_segment_t, user_addr_max() and uaccess_kernel(). help
On some platforms, there is currently no way for the boot loader
to pass arguments to the kernel. For these, you should supply some
command-line options at build time by entering them here. At a
minimum, you should specify the memory size and the root device
(e.g., mem=64M root=/dev/nfs).

This allows you to specify the maximum number of CPUs which this
kernel will support. The maximum supported value is 6 and the
minimum value which makes sense is 2.
This is purely to save memory - each supported CPU adds
approximately eight kilobytes to the kernel image.
