clone3: drop __ARCH_WANT_SYS_CLONE3 macro
When clone3() was introduced, it was not obvious how each architecture deals with setting up the stack and keeping the register contents in a fork()-like system call, so this was left for the architecture maintainers to implement, with __ARCH_WANT_SYS_CLONE3 defined by those that already implement it. Five years later, we still have a few architectures left that are missing clone3(), and the macro keeps getting in the way as it's fundamentally different from all the other __ARCH_WANT_SYS_* macros that are meant to provide backwards-compatibility with applications using older syscalls that are no longer provided by default. Address this by reversing the polarity of the macro, adding an __ARCH_BROKEN_SYS_CLONE3 macro to all architectures that don't already provide the syscall, and remove __ARCH_WANT_SYS_CLONE3 from all the other ones. arm64 updates for 6.10
ACPI: * Support for the Firmware ACPI Control Structure (FACS) signature feature which is used to reboot out of hibernation on some systems. Kbuild: * Support for building Flat Image Tree (FIT) images, where the kernel Image is compressed alongside a set of devicetree blobs. Memory management: * Optimisation of our early page-table manipulation for creation of the linear mapping. * Support for userfaultfd write protection, which brings along some nice cleanups to our handling of invalid but present ptes. * Extend our use of range TLBI invalidation at EL1. Perf and PMUs: * Ensure that the 'pmu->parent' pointer is correctly initialised by PMU drivers. * Avoid allocating 'cpumask_t' types on the stack in some PMU drivers. * Fix parsing of the CPU PMU "version" field in assembly code, as it doesn't follow the usual architectural rules. * Add best-effort unwinding support for USER_STACKTRACE * Minor driver fixes and cleanups. Selftests: * Minor cleanups to the arm64 selftests (missing NULL check, unused variable). Miscellaneous * Add a command-line alias for disabling 32-bit application support. * Add part number for Neoverse-V2 CPUs. * Minor fixes and cleanups. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQFEBAABCgAuFiEEPxTL6PPUbjXGY88ct6xw3ITBYzQFAmY+IWkQHHdpbGxAa2Vy bmVsLm9yZwAKCRC3rHDchMFjNBVNB/9JG4jlmgxzbTDoer0md31YFvWCDGeOKx1x g3XhE24W5w8eLXnc75p7/tOUKfo0TNWL4qdUs0hJCEUAOSy6a4Qz13bkkkvvBtDm nnHvEjidx5yprHggocsoTF29CKgHMJ3bt8rJe6g+O3Lp1JAFlXXNgplX5koeaVtm TtaFvX9MGyDDNkPIcQ/SQTFZJ2Oz51+ik6O8SYuGYtmAcR7MzlxH77lHl2mrF1bf Jzv/f5n0lS+Gt9tRuFWhbfEm4aKdUlLha4ufzUq42/vJvELboZbG3LqLxRG8DbqR +HvyZOG/xtu2dbzDqHkRumMToWmwzD4oBGSK4JAoJxeHavEdAvSG =JMvT -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'arm64-upstream' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arm64/linux Pull arm64 updates from Will Deacon: "The most interesting parts are probably the mm changes from Ryan which optimise the creation of the linear mapping at boot and (separately) implement write-protect support for userfaultfd. perf build: Ensure sysreg-defs Makefile respects output dir
Currently the sysreg-defs are written out to the source tree unconditionally, ignoring the specified output directory. Correct the build rule to emit the header to the output directory. Opportunistically reorganize the rules to avoid interleaving with the set of beauty make rules. tools headers: Update tools's copy of arm64/asm headers
tldr; Just FYI, I'm carrying this on the perf tools tree. Full explanation: There used to be no copies, with tools/ code using kernel headers directly. From time to time tools/perf/ broke due to legitimate kernel hacking. At some point Linus complained about such direct usage. Then we adopted the current model. The way these headers are used in perf are not restricted to just including them to compile something. There are sometimes used in scripts that convert defines into string tables, etc, so some change may break one of these scripts, or new MSRs may use some different #define pattern, etc. E.g.: $ ls -1 tools/perf/trace/beauty/*.sh | head -5 tools/perf/trace/beauty/arch_errno_names.sh tools/perf/trace/beauty/drm_ioctl.sh tools/perf/trace/beauty/fadvise.sh tools/perf/trace/beauty/fsconfig.sh tools/perf/trace/beauty/fsmount.sh $ $ tools/perf/trace/beauty/fadvise.sh static const char *fadvise_advices[] = { [0] = "NORMAL", [1] = "RANDOM", [2] = "SEQUENTIAL", [3] = "WILLNEED", [4] = "DONTNEED", [5] = "NOREUSE", }; $ The tools/perf/check-headers.sh script, part of the tools/ build process, points out changes in the original files. So its important not to touch the copies in tools/ when doing changes in the original kernel headers, that will be done later, when check-headers.sh inform about the change to the perf tools hackers. tools headers arm64: Fix references to top srcdir in Makefile
Aishwarya reports that KVM selftests for arm64 fail with the following
error:
| make[4]: Entering directory '/tmp/kci/linux/tools/testing/selftests/kvm'
| Makefile:270: warning: overriding recipe for target
| '/tmp/kci/linux/build/kselftest/kvm/get-reg-list'

| Makefile:10: ../tools/scripts/Makefile.include: No such file or directory
| make[5]: *** No rule to make target '../tools/scripts/Makefile.include'.
| Stop.
It would appear that this only affects builds from the top-level
Makefile (e.g. make kselftest-all), as $(srctree) is set to ".". Work
around the issue by shadowing the kselftest naming scheme for the source
tree variable.

asm-generic: partially revert "Unify uapi bitsperlong.h for arm64, riscv and loongarch"
Unifying the asm-generic headers across 32-bit and 64-bit architectures
based on the compiler provided macros was a good idea and appears to work
with all user space, but it caused a regression when building old kernels
on systems that have the new headers installed in /usr/include, as this
combination trips an inconsistency in the kernel's own tools/include
headers that are a mix of userspace and kernel-internal headers.
This affects kernel builds on arm64, riscv64 and loongarch64 systems that
might end up using the "#define __BITS_PER_LONG 32" default from the old
tools headers. Backporting the commit into stable kernels would address
this, but it would still break building kernels without that backport,
and waste time for developers trying to understand the problem.
arm64 build machines are rather common, and on riscv64 this can also
happen in practice, but loongarch64 is probably new enough to not
be used much for building old kernels, so only revert the bits
for arm64 and riscv.

asm-generic: Unify uapi bitsperlong.h for arm64, riscv and loongarch
Now we specify the minimal version of GCC as 5.1 and Clang/LLVM as 11.0.0 in Documentation/process/changes.rst, __CHAR_BIT__ and __SIZEOF_LONG__ are usable, it is probably fine to unify the definition of __BITS_PER_LONG as (__CHAR_BIT__ * __SIZEOF_LONG__) in asm-generic uapi bitsperlong.h. In order to keep safe and avoid regression, only unify uapi bitsperlong.h for some archs such as arm64, riscv and loongarch which are using newer toolchains that have the definitions of __CHAR_BIT__ and __SIZEOF_LONG__. KVM: arm64: Add KVM_ARM_VCPU_PMU_V3_SET_PMU attribute
When KVM creates an event and there are more than one PMUs present on the system, perf_init_event() will go through the list of available PMUs and will choose the first one that can create the event. The order of the PMUs in this list depends on the probe order, which can change under various circumstances, for example if the order of the PMU nodes change in the DTB or if asynchronous driver probing is enabled on the kernel command line (with the driver_async_probe=armv8-pmu option). Another consequence of this approach is that on heteregeneous systems all virtual machines that KVM creates will use the same PMU. This might cause unexpected behaviour for userspace: when a VCPU is executing on the physical CPU that uses this default PMU, PMU events in the guest work correctly; but when the same VCPU executes on another CPU, PMU events in the guest will suddenly stop counting. Fortunately, perf core allows user to specify on which PMU to create an event by using the perf_event_attr->type field, which is used by perf_init_event() as an index in the radix tree of available PMUs. Add the KVM_ARM_VCPU_PMU_V3_CTRL(KVM_ARM_VCPU_PMU_V3_SET_PMU) VCPU attribute to allow userspace to specify the arm_pmu that KVM will use when creating events for that VCPU. KVM will make no attempt to run the VCPU on the physical CPUs that share the PMU, leaving it up to userspace to manage the VCPU threads' affinity accordingly. To ensure that KVM doesn't expose an asymmetric system to the guest, the PMU set for one VCPU will be used by all other VCPUs. Once a VCPU has run, the PMU cannot be changed in order to avoid changing the list of available events for a VCPU, or to change the semantics of existing events. Some should cause changes in tooling, like the one adding LAST_EXCP, but the way it is structured end up not making that happen. The new SVM_EXIT_INVPCID should get used by arch/x86/util/kvm-stat.c, in the svm_exit_reasons table. The tools/perf/trace/beauty part has scripts to catch changes and automagically create tables, like tools/perf/trace/beauty/kvm_ioctl.sh, but changes are needed to make tools/perf/arch/x86/util/kvm-stat.c catch those automatically. other archs which do not have it implemented at this point. The
x86-64 one uses lock + add combination for smp_mb() with address
below red zone.

tools headers barrier: Fix arm64 tools build failure wrt smp_load_{acquire,release}
Cheers for reporting this. I managed to reproduce the build failure with gcc version 6.3.0 20170516 (Debian 6.3.0-18+deb9u1). The code in question is the arm64 versions of smp_load_acquire() and smp_store_release(). Unlike other architectures, these are not built around READ_ONCE() and WRITE_ONCE() since we have instructions we can use instead of fences. Bringing our macros up-to-date with those (i.e. tweaking the union initialisation and using the special "uXX_alias_t" types) appears to fix the issue for me.
