IOMMU Updates for Linux v6.3:
Including: - Consolidate iommu_map/unmap functions. There have been blocking and atomic variants so far, but that was problematic as this approach does not scale with required new variants which just differ in the GFP flags used. So Jason consolidated this back into single functions that take a GFP parameter. This has the potential to cause conflicts with other trees, as they introduce new call-sites for the changed functions. I offered them to pull in the branch containing these changes and resolve it, but I am not sure everyone did that. The conflicts this caused with upstream up to v6.2-rc8 are resolved in the final merge commit. - Retire the detach_dev() call-back in iommu_ops - Arm SMMU updates from Will: - Device-tree binding updates: * Cater for three power domains on SM6375 * Document existing compatible strings for Qualcomm SoCs * Tighten up clocks description for platform-specific compatible strings - Enable Qualcomm workarounds for some additional platforms that need them - Intel VT-d updates from Lu Baolu: - Add Intel IOMMU performance monitoring support - Set No Execute Enable bit in PASID table entry - Two performance optimizations - Fix PASID directory pointer coherency - Fix missed rollbacks in error path - Cleanups - Apple t8110 DART support - Exynos IOMMU: - Implement better fault handling - Error handling fixes - Renesas IPMMU: - Add device tree bindings for r8a779g0 - AMD IOMMU: - Various fixes for handling on SNP-enabled systems and handling of faults with unknown request-ids - Cleanups and other small fixes - Various other smaller fixes and cleanups -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- iQIzBAABCAAdFiEEr9jSbILcajRFYWYyK/BELZcBGuMFAmP0hDwACgkQK/BELZcB GuM43RAA0YieShO+X0h6TFGfbK0zVoPd91giZehWBv9rHK7pP4iY8UEtBLBWGx/t CId4t98mmKmC212zz8QxrwAEzyTIRY+2t1yrpG2aVkoTYk8inMb07TU37wganh3O T0QccXN+9b2BS4k8yro5f3uX0d/C1JQVcMowwr53VMb/e73huqP1VTbz06/CIWMH DUhVRCzmNhSvoUOT5n7g6+ZDH+pot8WPZbtHV7FowEsmPCRc7Fj8kXyI9FEwKwrZ hIV5Y+6Lej8nQScgbO8MfblJym3VrBoSoM4GY2w0L0rjQw6m+Xtea5rT0W39YVWy YpiscLTL8TIMPP9zK1dXVygTaABK4J2iWmheHPkpKXIhK0iuH3Dke0Do5p6DNITj 7J2YlaNEB480D5hvNBKsbbGHavgGPT8m529Sz0R7mSC7omRzqiG5Vsb46IXL+2bc 92ojjYNfXb6OCtagIr2LMBLZRL2JCODqF1dUmyZfA8GKOHLP5kZXoMM+sZbQ2aUL 1LOxRZVx+tlb9V4VaH1ZSs/6eM+HLDzjtHeu3PoWYf6mW4AEt4S/yl9SKAkGdBqt jCUErmYB1nU/eefqG1jhWRpQeJabcT3Oe30NZru1pfMoREThhjbAACw1JxWtoe1X ipGpV6lAP7tQUGuRk3/9O1lNqElJuNwC5lVTjS4FJ38vYQhQbao= =ZaZV -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Merge tag 'iommu-updates-v6.3' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/joro/iommu Pull iommu updates from Joerg Roedel: - Consolidate iommu_map/unmap functions. Networking changes for 6.3.
Core ---- - Add dedicated kmem_cache for typical/small skb->head, avoid having to access struct page at kfree time, and improve memory use. - Introduce sysctl to set default RPS configuration for new netdevs. - Define Netlink protocol specification format which can be used to describe messages used by each family and auto-generate parsers. Add tools for generating kernel data structures and uAPI headers. - Expose all net/core sysctls inside netns. - Remove 4s sleep in netpoll if carrier is instantly detected on boot. - Add configurable limit of MDB entries per port, and port-vlan. - Continue populating drop reasons throughout the stack. - Retire a handful of legacy Qdiscs and classifiers. Protocols --------- - Support IPv4 big TCP (TSO frames larger than 64kB). - Add IP_LOCAL_PORT_RANGE socket option, to control local port range on socket by socket basis. - Track and report in procfs number of MPTCP sockets used. - Support mixing IPv4 and IPv6 flows in the in-kernel MPTCP path manager. - IPv6: don't check net.ipv6.route.max_size and rely on garbage collection to free memory (similarly to IPv4). - Support Penultimate Segment Pop (PSP) flavor in SRv6 (RFC8986). - ICMP: add per-rate limit counters. - Add support for user scanning requests in ieee802154. - Remove static WEP support. - Support minimal Wi-Fi 7 Extremely High Throughput (EHT) rate reporting. - WiFi 7 EHT channel puncturing support (client & AP). BPF --- - Add a rbtree data structure following the "next-gen data structure" precedent set by recently added linked list, that is, by using kfunc + kptr instead of adding a new BPF map type. - Expose XDP hints via kfuncs with initial support for RX hash and timestamp metadata. - Add BPF_F_NO_TUNNEL_KEY extension to bpf_skb_set_tunnel_key to better support decap on GRE tunnel devices not operating in collect metadata. - Improve x86 JIT's codegen for PROBE_MEM runtime error checks. - Remove the need for trace_printk_lock for bpf_trace_printk and bpf_trace_vprintk helpers. - Extend libbpf's bpf_tracing.h support for tracing arguments of kprobes/uprobes and syscall as a special case. - Significantly reduce the search time for module symbols by livepatch and BPF. - Enable cpumasks to be used as kptrs, which is useful for tracing programs tracking which tasks end up running on which CPUs in different time intervals. - Add support for BPF trampoline on s390x and riscv64. - Add capability to export the XDP features supported by the NIC. - Add __bpf_kfunc tag for marking kernel functions as kfuncs. - Add cgroup.memory=nobpf kernel parameter option to disable BPF memory accounting for container environments. Netfilter --------- - Remove the CLUSTERIP target. It has been marked as obsolete for years, and we still have WARN splats wrt. races of the out-of-band /proc interface installed by this target. - Add 'destroy' commands to nf_tables. They are identical to the existing 'delete' commands, but do not return an error if the referenced object (set, chain, rule...) did not exist. Driver API ---------- - Improve cpumask_local_spread() locality to help NICs set the right IRQ affinity on AMD platforms. - Separate C22 and C45 MDIO bus transactions more clearly. - Introduce new DCB table to control DSCP rewrite on egress. - Support configuration of Physical Layer Collision Avoidance (PLCA) Reconciliation Sublayer (RS) (802.3cg-2019). Modern version of shared medium Ethernet. - Support for MAC Merge layer (IEEE 802.3-2018 clause 99). Allowing preemption of low priority frames by high priority frames. - Add support for controlling MACSec offload using netlink SET. - Rework devlink instance refcounts to allow registration and de-registration under the instance lock. Split the code into multiple files, drop some of the unnecessarily granular locks and factor out common parts of netlink operation handling. - Add TX frame aggregation parameters (for USB drivers). - Add a new attr TCA_EXT_WARN_MSG to report TC (offload) warning messages with notifications for debug. - Allow offloading of UDP NEW connections via act_ct. - Add support for per action HW stats in TC. - Support hardware miss to TC action (continue processing in SW from a specific point in the action chain). - Warn if old Wireless Extension user space interface is used with modern cfg80211/mac80211 drivers. Do not support Wireless Extensions for Wi-Fi 7 devices at all. Everyone should switch to using nl80211 interface instead. - Improve the CAN bit timing configuration. Use extack to return error messages directly to user space, update the SJW handling, including the definition of a new default value that will benefit CAN-FD controllers, by increasing their oscillator tolerance. vhost-net: support VIRTIO_F_RING_RESET
Add VIRTIO_F_RING_RESET, which indicates that the driver can reset a queue individually. VIRTIO_F_RING_RESET feature is added to virtio-spec 1.2. The relevant information is in oasis-tcs/virtio-spec#124 oasis-tcs/virtio-spec#139 The implementation only adds the feature bit in supported features. It does not require any other changes because we reuse the existing vhost protocol. The virtqueue reset process can be concluded as two parts: 1. The driver can reset a virtqueue. When it is triggered, we use the set_backend to disable the virtqueue. 2. After the virtqueue is disabled, the driver may optionally re-enable it. The process is basically similar to when the device is started, except that the restart process does not need to set features and set mem table since they do not change. QEMU will send messages containing size, base, addr, kickfd and callfd of the virtqueue in order. Specifically, the host kernel will receive these messages in order: a. VHOST_SET_VRING_NUM b. VHOST_SET_VRING_BASE c. VHOST_SET_VRING_ADDR d. VHOST_SET_VRING_KICK e. VHOST_SET_VRING_CALL f. VHOST_NET_SET_BACKEND Finally, after we use set_backend to attach the virtqueue, the virtqueue will be enabled and start to work. vhost-vdpa: uAPI to resume the device
This new ioctl adds support for resuming the device from userspace. This is required when trying to restore the device in a functioning state after it's been suspended. It is already possible to reset a suspended device, but that means the device must be reconfigured and all the IOMMU/IOTLB mappings must be recreated. This new operation allows the device to be resumed without going through a full reset. This is particularly useful when trying to perform offline migration of a virtual machine (also known as snapshot/restore) as it allows the VMM to resume the virtual machine back to a running state after the snapshot is performed. vhost-scsi: unbreak any layout for response
Al Viro said: """ Since "vhost/scsi: fix reuse of &vq->iov[out] in response" we have this: cmd->tvc_resp_iov = vq->iov[vc.out]; cmd->tvc_in_iovs = vc.in; combined with iov_iter_init(&iov_iter, ITER_DEST, &cmd->tvc_resp_iov, cmd->tvc_in_iovs, sizeof(v_rsp)); in vhost_scsi_complete_cmd_work(). We used to have ->tvc_resp_iov _pointing_ to vq->iov[vc.out]; back then iov_iter_init() asked to set an iovec-backed iov_iter over the tail of vq->iov[], with length being the amount of iovecs in the tail. Now we have a copy of one element of that array. Fortunately, the members following it in the containing structure are two non-NULL kernel pointers, so copy_to_iter() will not copy anything beyond the first iovec - kernel pointer is not (on the majority of architectures) going to be accepted by access_ok() in copyout() and it won't be skipped since the "length" (in reality - another non-NULL kernel pointer) won't be zero. So it's not going to give a guest-to-qemu escalation, but it's definitely a bug. Frankly, my preference would be to verify that the very first iovec is long enough to hold rsp_size. Due to the above, any users that try to give us vq->iov[vc.out].iov_len < sizeof(struct virtio_scsi_cmd_resp) would currently get a failure in vhost_scsi_complete_cmd_work() anyway. """ However, the spec doesn't say anything about the legacy descriptor layout for the respone. So this patch tries to not assume the response to reside in a single separate descriptor which is what commit |

vhost/net: Clear the pending messages when the backend is removed
When the vhost iotlb is used along with a guest virtual iommu
and the guest gets rebooted, some MISS messages may have been
recorded just before the reboot and spuriously executed by
the virtual iommu after the reboot.
As vhost does not have any explicit reset user API,
VHOST_NET_SET_BACKEND looks a reasonable point where to clear
the pending messages, in case the backend is removed.
Export vhost_clear_msg() and call it in vhost_net_set_backend()
when fd == -1.

vhost_vdpa: fix the crash in unmap a large memory
While testing in vIOMMU, sometimes Guest will unmap very large memory,
which will cause the crash. To fix this, add a new function
vhost_vdpa_general_unmap(). This function will only unmap the memory
that saved in iotlb.

vhost: fix range used in translate_desc()
vhost_iotlb_itree_first() requires `start` and `last` parameters
to search for a mapping that overlaps the range.
In translate_desc() we cyclically call vhost_iotlb_itree_first(),
incrementing `addr` by the amount already translated, so rightly
we move the `start` parameter passed to vhost_iotlb_itree_first(),
but we should hold the `last` parameter constant.
Let's fix it by saving the `last` parameter value before incrementing
`addr` in the loop.

vhost/vsock: Fix error handling in vhost_vsock_init()
A problem about modprobe vhost_vsock failed is triggered with the
following log given:
modprobe: ERROR: could not insert 'vhost_vsock': Device or resource busy
The reason is that vhost_vsock_init() returns misc_register() directly
without checking its return value, if misc_register() failed, it returns
without calling vsock_core_unregister() on vhost_transport, resulting the
vhost_vsock can never be installed later.
A simple call graph is shown as below:
vhost_vsock_init()
vsock_core_register() # register vhost_transport
misc_register()
device_create_with_groups()
device_create_groups_vargs()
dev = kzalloc(...) # OOM happened
# return without unregister vhost_transport
Fix by calling vsock_core_unregister() when misc_register() returns error.

vhost-vdpa: uAPI to suspend the device
The ioctl adds support for suspending the device from userspace. This is a must before getting virtqueue indexes (base) for live migration, since the device could modify them after userland gets them. There are individual ways to perform that action for some devices (VHOST_NET_SET_BACKEND, VHOST_VSOCK_SET_RUNNING, ...) but there was no way to perform it for any vhost device (and, in particular, vhost-vdpa). After a successful return of the ioctl call the device must not process more virtqueue descriptors. The device can answer to read or writes of config fields as if it were not suspended. In particular, writing to "queue_enable" with a value of 1 will not make the device start processing buffers of the virtqueue. vhost scsi: Allow user to control num virtqueues
We are currently hard coded to always create 128 IO virtqueues, so this adds a modparam to control it. For large systems where we are ok with using memory for virtqueues it allows us to add up to 1024. This limit was just selected becuase that's qemu's limit. vhost-scsi: Fix max number of virtqueues
Qemu takes it's num_queues limit then adds the fixed queues (control and event) to the total it will request from the kernel. So when a user requests 128 (or qemu does it's num_queues calculation based on vCPUS and other system limits), we hit errors due to userspace trying to setup 130 queues when vhost-scsi has a hard coded limit of 128. This has vhost-scsi adjust it's max so we can do a total of 130 virtqueues (128 IO and 2 fixed). For the case where the user has 128 vCPUs the guest OS can then nicely map each IO virtqueue to a vCPU and not have the odd case where 2 vCPUs share a virtqueue. vringh: iterate on iotlb_translate to handle large translations
iotlb_translate() can return -ENOBUFS if the bio_vec is not big enough to contain all the ranges for translation. This can happen for example if the VMM maps a large bounce buffer, without using hugepages, that requires more than 16 ranges to translate the addresses. To handle this case, let's extend iotlb_translate() to also return the number of bytes successfully translated. In copy_from_iotlb()/copy_to_iotlb() loops by calling iotlb_translate() several times until we complete the translation. iov_iter: advancing variants of iov_iter_get_pages{,_alloc}()
Most of the users immediately follow successful iov_iter_get_pages() with advancing by the amount it had returned. Provide inline wrappers doing that, convert trivial open-coded uses of those. BTW, iov_iter_get_pages() never returns more than it had been asked to; such checks in cifs ought to be removed someday... vhost: rename vhost_work_dev_flush
This patch renames vhost_work_dev_flush to just vhost_dev_flush to relfect that it flushes everything on the device and that drivers don't know/care that polls are based on vhost_works. Drivers just flush the entire device and polls, and works for vhost-scsi management TMFs and IO net virtqueues, etc all are flushed. vhost-test: drop flush after vhost_dev_cleanup
The flush after vhost_dev_cleanup is not needed because: 1. It doesn't do anything. vhost_dev_cleanup will stop the worker thread so the flush call will just return since the worker has not device. 2. It's not needed. The comment about jobs re-queueing themselves does not look correct because handle_vq does not requeue work. vhost-scsi: drop flush after vhost_dev_cleanup
The flush after vhost_dev_cleanup is not needed because: 1. It doesn't do anything. vhost_dev_cleanup will stop the worker thread so the flush call will just return since the worker has not device. 2. It's not needed for the re-queue case. vhost_scsi_evt_handle_kick grabs the mutex and if the backend is NULL will return without queueing a work. vhost_scsi_clear_endpoint will set the backend to NULL under the vq->mutex then drops the mutex and does a flush. So we know when vhost_scsi_clear_endpoint has dropped the mutex after clearing the backend no evt related work will be able to requeue. The flush would then make sure any queued evts are run and return. vhost_vsock: simplify vhost_vsock_flush()
vhost_vsock_flush() calls vhost_work_dev_flush(vsock->vqs[i].poll.dev) before vhost_work_dev_flush(&vsock->dev). This seems pointless as vsock->vqs[i].poll.dev is the same as &vsock->dev and several flushes in a row doesn't do anything useful, one is just enough. vhost_test: remove vhost_test_flush_vq()
vhost_test_flush_vq() just a simple wrapper around vhost_work_dev_flush() which seems have no value. It's just easier to call vhost_work_dev_flush() directly. Besides there is no point in obtaining vhost_dev pointer via 'n->vqs[index].poll.dev' while we can just use &n->dev. It's the same pointers, see vhost_test_open()/vhost_dev_init(). vhost_net: get rid of vhost_net_flush_vq() and extra flush calls
vhost_net_flush_vq() calls vhost_work_dev_flush() twice passing vhost_dev pointer obtained via 'n->poll[index].dev' and 'n->vqs[index].vq.poll.dev'. This is actually the same pointer, initialized in vhost_net_open()/vhost_dev_init()/vhost_poll_init() Remove vhost_net_flush_vq() and call vhost_work_dev_flush() directly.
